Bought a new computer, see hardly any difference?

Yea, not at the risk of his warranty if it’s purchased from a high street store.
Did the OP try disabling SLI?
Well, it’d be useful to know about your graphics card, but the CPU is what’s causing the slideshow in WvW and heavily populated events.
CPU is very important for dealing with an area with a large number of players – yours isn’t great.

How many pci-e slots on your mobo? Im suspecting it may be installed on the wrong one if your board is sli/cfx capable you might wanna check it with cpu-z or gpu-z… What you are looking for is PCI-E link bandwidth and its supposed to be 16x not anything less.
I don’t think that will make any difference in that range of cards to be honest.

The 6670 is probably not “superior enough” to make any difference at the resolution you’re playing at.
If you knocked the resolution down a bit, it will make a difference, more than likely.
Aside from that, you’ve pretty much done a 75% sidegrade, 25% upgrade.
It wasn’t ignorant, he posted no useful information and was overly defensive in a way that suggested he wouldn’t accept any help if it had anything to do with his machine.

Im pretty sure it will just run horribly even though your specs can work flawlessly on max settings in Crysis.
GW2 is CPU bound from what ive experimented on, and uses next to nothing from your GPU. And even then, its still horribly optimized.
If you’re going to post inaccurate information, it’s better not to post it at all.
I’ve seen at least 3 posts from Anet staff saying they’re working on it.
a “petition” is a bit silly.
They’ve already said in one of the many threads that they’re looking into the issue and are working on it.
A couple of things – yes a few people have this problem, but it’s by no means widespread. It’s not a big enough issue for there to be a major announcement.
Second, you guys would find it much easier to get a proper response (or indeed, you would have seen the response) if you stuck to a single thread per performance issue rather than making 100 individual crappy rants filled with no useful information,
I was running the game under Windows 8 RP for a long time, and didn’t have those issues. I don’t think it’s related.
If it’s just this morning, its because of maintenance.
You can really save some money by cutting out some of the unnecessary stuff you have there – put it into a better SSD.
And the information on that site is.. It’s not made by an expert.
Such as? i would like to run the cooling since my room tends to run a little hotter then the rest of the house.
Drop down to a 650W PSU. It’s more than enough even if you want to SLI.
Cut out the sound card unless you do high-quality audio work.
Consider getting a newer generation card than the 580, especially if you want to cut down on heat. They run hot and use up more power for the same performance than the 680 or even an overclocked 670 model.
Get a better SSD – look up write speeds, the one you’re buying is really quite slow in comparison.
Keep the CPU cooler if you want – but don’t get the K model of the i7 if you’re not wanting to overclock it.
There are better cases than the Thermaltake, but it’s fine if you like the look of it.
Optical drive – Writable discs for Blu-Ray are expensive at the moment, and I don’t know how often you’ll use it. It might make more sense just to get a BR reader and get a writer when they’ve come down to more normal prices and the media doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Yea, made a post, went back out to the tech forum, now it’s in German. I live in Switzerland but I’m English so I’d prefer to be using the English one – all of the other forums are still English, just not this one?
I’m using the link forum-en.guildwars2.com as well, so I don’t know why it would change suddenly.

So you ask for advice and then order everything anyway? OK..
Don’t buy anti-virus software.
You don’t need an 850W PSU for a single PSU. Never ever. 500W is more than enough and you still have headroom. If you’re going for 2 card SLI 600W is enough, but most people go for 650W to have extra headroom.
Don’t buy a 580, it’s outdated. It runs hot, takes up more power and is less efficient than the 6xx series.
For instance, the Antec High Current Gamer 520W PSU can support a GTX 680 and still have about 100W headroom. Obviously this might not be true if you had 6 HDDs or something silly.
Do you need a soundcard? Do you work with high quality audio files? They’re not necessary otherwise.

Twitter says that maintenance isn’t finished yet.
Yep, just got kicked out and can’t log back in. I thought they’d finished maintenance already?

Why do people find it so hard to report a problem normally?
OP, your attitude is lousy and you’re not likely to get any help by posting in that matter.

That comment is doing nothing but shifting blame away from yourself. And you haven’t looked very hard. And it has nothing to do with what I said in the first place.
First thing to do would be to find a program that will completely remove all Nvidia drivers from your system, and then try downloading the latest ones again and reinstalling them.
And yet the error specifically states hardware failure so..
What is the exact error?
dacooli, please stop talking rubbish.
That PC is just fine for running the game, the specs aren’t the issue. It’s not like you need a high end pc just to play the gamekitten
My wife’s PC only has a 6850OC and it’s running at around 40FPS on auto detect, and doesn’t dip below 28 in the Black Citadel.
The minimum requirements they specified are a lie right now anyways. I meet all of them and the game runs awfully.
Please refrain from blanket statements like this, because it’s wrong and just spreads angst.
I know people who just meet min requirement and the game runs at 30FPS for them just fine.
That’s not the problem.
Yea..probably because they’ve done something wrong. I’ve built 4 of the PCs in my family and none of them do that.
Airflow? cable management? PSU connectors properly plugged in?
And that is what I am doing in countless other threads. You’re welcome.
That’s the first one of those errors I’ve seen in the last few days.
Stress test your PC. Don’t be overconfident.
The next thing you can do is download a program called whocrashed? and let it analyse the crash dumps created by blue screens.
It should tell you what the problem is, or at least the file that is related to the problem.
I would say it looks like (not just from your case) that the game is working much better with older Nvidia cards than it is the 6xxx range of ATi cards.
That being said, my wife’s computer with a 6850OC Gigabyte runs the game at about 40FPs solidly on autodetect.
Can you be a bit more specific with the error? Application crash? Blue screen?
I don’t think it will work out, sorry.
Er yea, I haven’t said anywhere that people shouldn’t post their technical problems on a technical problems forum. Once again you have managed to infer a completely random argument out of my posts that bare no relation to what I actually say. And you wonder why I get annoyed?
Have a read again, and you will see I am annoyed at the attitude. “I have this problem, so everyone else must have it and the game is interminably broken and riddled with bugs.”
Yea, they won’t do that under guarantee as nothing is broken.
While this tip may or may not work, I’d like to post my appreciation for the sensible way in which it is present.
Kudos!

I can’t replicate this on my dual screen setup. Do you have “smart move” enabled in your mouse settings?
There’d be little point getting a new GPU when your system is handicapped by DDR2 RAM.
That being said, there’s also little point “upgrading” to an FX processor. It likely won’t get you any better gaming performance than the one you’re currently using.
Intel i5 and a decent ASRocks motherboard would probably be your best bet. Don’t waste money on 16GB of Ram unless you know you’re going to use it.
No, you can’t upgrade GPUs in laptops except for very, very select “gaming laptops”. Even then, they need to be sent off to the manufacturer in order for this to be done as it requires an almost complete dismantle and a big sack of gold.
It is definitely physically damaged though. Take it back. I’m struggling to think of a time I’ve ever seen that sort of problem caused by software.
Was that 40 minute run a complete test? Or did you stop it?
Fwiw, i’m running this game on an EVGA 670 and I have FPS that I would expect. Lowest it gets is mid 40s in big WvW battles on auto detect. Most of the time running aroundin PVE the frames are above 100. Zerging groups bring it down to 60s / 70s depending on the area.
It does work on most people’s systems who have a 6xx series card as it should.
I still find it annoying that because a handful (in terms of game population) of people with high end rigs (a large amount of those, by the way, have had their issues resolved by simple maintenance) are struggling with performance that some people can equate that to;
“this game plays poorly on any high end rig”.
It doesn’t, it’s a select few who are having issues.

Because my system has worked fine on every single other game I’ve ever played – all currents included. I literally have a brand new computer, I shouldn’t have to update every single little thing for one game. That’s why it’s their fault. It’s obviously a bug that every other game could handle removing, but Anet couldn’t. And they had HOW MUCH beta testing?
Eh, yes you do need to keep your system up to date for new games. You absolutely have to – it’s your system, not Anet’s – you look after it.
If you can’t be bothered to keep it up to date then you’re not going to get much help from tech support.
Funny how a cpu that exceeds minimum game requirements is being called “not remotely decent”…
IMO, if a system meets the minimum requirements, it should at least be playable. On low settings maybe, but playable.
His CPU doesn’t meet min requirements. It’s nowhere close. A core2duo is vastly superior to the one in the system specified.
It definitely sounds like a driver issue (the game freezing, screen going black and then returning is your driver restarting) – I would suggest that you find a tool to completely remove the NVidia drivers from your system, reboot the computer and then download the latest stable ones again and install.
I think a couple of people have run into problems with the latest drivers that are fixed by using the previous version, so try that if the first suggestion doesn’t help.
Hmm, that’s odd.
I would suggest going into device manager, uninstalled the keyboard from there (tick remove drivers as well) and then reinstalling.
I have the Performance MX mouse and the setpoint software running the background and have no issues, so it’s something related to the keyboard.
Also, this is going to sound incredibly patronising but please don’t take it as such – when was the last time you changed your batteries? Keyboard will randomly cut out when the batteries get low. Just to rule it out.
Artifacts indicate GPU damage.
Run something like Furmark to confirm and then get your money back.

Latest drivers are 12.9, aren’t they?
No. It keeps it at it’s highest multiplier 100% of the time. Google is your friend.
That’s pretty much exactly the same thing.
