Highly unlikey, as the issue is simply not widespread enough for it to be solely caused by a windows update.

Especially not with those symptoms.

Your symptoms describe either overheating or thermal damage. The first one is better as it can be fixed, the second represents permanent damage.

Obviously they up the “requirements” to cover their assess. This doesn’t mean that his PSU isn’t faulty and this just happens to be the first game that’s testing it (which makes no sense considering he can play bf3 at 60fps) either way some games are coded poorly and if there is anything about your system it doesn’t agree with problems can pop up. I had the exact problem when i was playing rift on my 950w corsair hx psu with my gtx 295, swapped psu and problem was solved.

Considering most people have an extra psu laying around it’s not hard to test.

Most people have an extra PSU lying around?

That’s news to me.

The CPU is the cause, more than likely. It’s not good. I don’t think it even reaches min requirements, as it’s not newer than a core 2 duo.

Just to be sure, make sure all your drivers are up to date (sound, GPU, chipset).

If playing at a lower resolution makes the game run better, then there’s not much else you can do other than upgrade Mobo / RAM / CPU

Pikachu, I don’t really know where to begin with that specification.

The CPU is oldish and is probably the major bottleneck, but;

DDR2 RAM is not going to help matters at all.
Your motherboard needs to be replaced to support DDR3 RAM and a new CPU.
Spending all that money on the GPU to run at sub HD resolution is a bit nuts.

You could have easily bought a 7850 and then with the rest of the money you saved just about bought a new CPU, Mobo and RAM.

I don’t think it’s as simple as saying Nvidia 600 series have problems. Mine doesn’t – EVGA 670 and the lowest FPS I’ve seen (using fraps to monitor) was mid 40s in a big WvW battle.

The rest of the time it’s flying in the 80s / 90s / 100s depending on environment on autodetect.

power supply related? 520w barely meets the requirements for your card alone.

Don’t talk rubbish, it easily meets the power requirements. You can run a single 7950 on a 520W PSU without any worries, even a 7970 only requires 36A of continuous power from the +12V rail – The Antec that he has puts out 40A.

He could even have an i7 Sandy Bridge in there with a 7970 and it would still be providing enough power.

Please don’t spread false information.

I’m not saying he can’t i’m simply stating what the video card he uses says it needs. which recommends 550w.

Yes, all NVidia and ATI overestimate what they need so that they can cover their assess in case some idiot running 5 HDDs, 4 optical drives and 20USB ports complains that he hasn’t got enough power to run the card, despite the manufacturer saying he has. They always add about 150W to the actual required amount.

For instance, my previous PC with an i5 2400 and OC6850 would draw 345W under load. ATi recommend at least 500W.

The annoying thing is that the manufacturers hardly ever specify that the PSUs should be 80+ Bronze rated at the least, which is far more valuable information than an inflated wattage.

There are some really poor PSUs out there that have a stupidly high wattage, but can’t provide a stable power ouput.

Cancel that order and get an i5 at least. AMD processors are garbage for gaming and you’ll pretty much get exactly the same performance, if not worse on that FX chip.

I have years of experience, thanks.

And I can tell you from that experience that no, they don’t. AMD chips are terrible at gaming, as demonstrated in practically any benchmark for any game. This is also demonstrated by the ridiculously high overclock that you’ve put on the CPU in order for the game to run well.

Besides that, I have no idea what an “i6” processor is.

^ about having every driver up to date isn’t exactly true, I’m happy with my year old Nvidia driver (285.62).

You will get better performance from a newer driver. Running with such a dated driver is not recommended by anyone. They’re potentially unstable when running with newer software, lack features and aren’t optimised for modern games.

Firstly, no she can’t. Her computer is in no way capable of dealing with the AA, reflections and shadows on max at 60FPS. No way. The 440 just doesn’t have the memory bandwidth to deal with that at 1080p. If you’ve used some kind of tool to measure that, it’s wrong.

You need at least a GTX 670 to have stable 60FPS on highest settings, probably even better to keep it there with supersampling and ultra shadows.

Secondly, try taking the OC off your processor first to see if that improves matters. OC can sometimes cause problems with game performance.

Thirdly, make sure all of your drivers up to date. And I mean all. Sound, USB device, GPU, chipset.

Make absolutely certain that you have all drivers up to date (motherboard chipset, sound, graphics, usb devices) and run the game on auto detect.

Play another game until they fix whatever issue it is that’s effecting you.

About this, I also thought this, and it is the general consensus; however, being on a laptop I was most definitely on the Performance plan and the odd numbered cores were still parked on my i7, FWIW…

That’s odd. It might only work for desktop i7s then. Have you gone deeper into the power settings to check what the setting is for your CPU in high performance on your laptop?

Make a shortcut to GW2.exe on your desktop if there isn’t already one. In the “Target” field in the “Shortcut” tab, add “-dx9single -nomusic -nosound” (without the quotation marks of course) after the quotations of GW2.exe. ;

There isn’t really a way to get it to use more, but it’s odd that it doesn’t want to use the other two as it seems to be spreading load over 4 cores of my i7, and others have said that it even uses the virtual cores on i7s as well.

I have a 670 and have zero issues with frame rate. I’m easily above 60FPS on max settings even in WvW – this is since upgrading the CPU to an i7 2600K, mind.

Last week I was running on an i5-2400 and had to turn reflections and shadows off to stay above 40FPS in WvW.

Impossible. I have a GTX 680 and i7-2700k @ 4 GHz and I drop to 25-30 FPS in large battles in WvWvW. There is no way you are getting 60 FPS on max settings in large castle sieges.

For WvW I turn off reflections and shadows.

I haven’t been involved in any super large battles, but last night there were about 40 of us trying to take a castle and my frames were (according to fraps) mid 40s.

Take the overclock off your CPU and see if that stops it, others have said that this causes issues with the game.

I have an album of screens with the Fraps overlay taken in a pretty hectic event, if you want to see those?

http://imgur.com/a/Syb1y#0

Are you just looking for attention or something? At first, you said that you get 60+ fps even in largescale WvW. Then when someone challenged you on it, you said it runs in the mid-40s. And then you suggest looking at your album of screenshots taken in a “hectic” event. I look at the screens, and it shows barely any activity on the screen.

You haven’t added anything helpful here. I have, but pointing out your fallacy.

No, I’m actually helping people on here trying to troubleshoot. And calling BS on those that are really spreading BS, like yourself..

That particular WvW battle was the largest I’d been involved in thus far, hence why it went into the 45FPS range. I also had fraps running at the time which I don’t normally do.

Now tone down the attiude.

There’s a basic list of troubleshooting that people should carry out if they’re having crashes;

1) Check drivers – this is for everything, motherboard chipset, sound, graphics etc.
2) Turn off any overclocking. GPU, CPU, RAM, whatever.
3) Stop any unnecessary programs from running in the background.
4) Make sure the power plan is set to high performance.
5) Check temperatures with a tool like RealTemp.
6) If you’re getting blue screens, use a tool like WhoCrashed? to see if it can point out what is causing them.

I never crash though.
Also temps all fine.

You have no idea how many times I’ve seen that when a new game is released. It happens with pretty much every new release in every forum. It’s nearly always something on the user’s end.

That’s obviously not proof that you’ve done anything to verify that your system isn’t having the issue rather than the game. No one will be able to help you until you are willing to take those steps.

I wouldn’t lie. I don’t know how to give proof but I can guarentee you that I play all other games as I should and that it is just GW2 giving me trouble. My system is all fine, experts have checked it and all parts and I’ve re-installed my OS a couple of times. I’m sorry to say this fanboi, but the only game I have problem with is GW2 which means that it is on their end. Sorry. Shouldnt be required to OVERCLOCK my cpu which nvidia suggested to be able to max this game.

And again, instead of offering any actual proof or willingness to cooperate, you throw out insults and flawed logic. GW2 is the newest game you own, more than likely, so the performance of other games is, from a hardware standpoint, irrelevant.
