Details about the Guild Wars 2 First Birthday Gift
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: ZaxanRazor.6235
Still haven’t receive the present for my main character, who is 367 days old. Is this going to take some time to roll out?
I tried Brisbane and Caledon Forest, not tried the others yet.
I love this event, in theory. It’s so badly made though.
Bugged achievements – some balloon towers are bugged – either the chests show as open in zones you haven’t even attempted to do the events in (Maguuma for me), as well as the ones in Queensdale and Wayfairer that are bugged.
Performance. Everyone loses FPS in the cities at normal times (if you’re going to come in here and say your first gen i7 and 6850 gives you 60FPS, don’t even start). Why on earth did they think it would be a good idea to put these massive PvE fights in the city? OC 2600K, OC GTX 770, down to 25FPS (my CPU is at 40% across 4 cores, my GPU load can’t be that high as it hovers around 60°C instead of the max of 65°C I see playing Metro LL, so why is performance not better?) most of the time when killing the champions. That’s worse performance than I get during WvW zergs kitten . Here’s another thing – when I run a blend test on Prime95 and leave it for 4 hours to check for a stable OC – the max temp on my CPU is 62°C. Doing the events in the Pavillion for an hour? 61°C. That is insanely bad optimisation. For those that don’t know, blend tests max your CPU cores out at 100% (or, with an i7, 8 threads) constantly for the duration of the test. It’s normal for stress tests to reach temperatures 8°C hotter than the heaviest of regular load. It is not normal for a game to be within 1°C of this temperature. GW2 keeps 4 cores (doesn’t use hyperthreading, like all games, I believe) at around 40% so how it reaches that temperature I’ve got no idea. There’s something badly wrong there.
The update initially broke a couple of daily achievements as well. Karma spender didn’t work. One of the new runes applies confusion to yourself rather than the enemy.
Anet, I love this game, but if you’re going to rush out updates think them through properly and test them properly or open a public test server. Having flawed updates constantly come out that need hotfixes every evening (kicking you out group events with a minutes warning) is an awful way to go about it.
Slow down and do it properly. Yours sincerely, a Guild Wars player since 2005.
(edited by ZaxanRazor.6235)
But that doesn’t explain why I can’t open any in Maguuma areas?
Both my wife and I cannot open any chests on the towers we have not already visited before. When I get to the top of the tower, the chest shows as being open.
I am 100% certain I am doing the ones in the zones that I have not done before, as I hadn’t started doing Maguuma towers before today.
I’m stuck on 25/30 for the achievement, visiting new towers doesn’t count.
Anyone know what’s going on?
Whiteside Ridge.
If it’s by Doicu then it’s old – he left the company what, around Christmas, didn’t he?
I doubt its for anything new.
If your drivers are up to date and not corrupted (Google how to do a clean install) then I’m sorry to say that your GPU is damaged and needs replacing.
The weirdest thing about this is that I can play ikittenone like Curshed Shore, get horrific 5-30 second lag and frequent disconnections – then teleport to Malchor’s Leap and have absolutely zero lag.
Queensdale? Massive lag. Kessex Hills? No lag. This changes day to day.
EDIT:
Apparently the filter has problems with the word zone.
(edited by ZaxanRazor.6235)
Issue persists. Three weeks and counting.
The second issue is the issue that almost everyone in the Eu experiences for the last 3 weeks at prime time. Ashley, care to comment on that? Or are you going to ignore it like you have the massive “Network Lag” thread?
GW2 has issues with the 600 series and camera panning. You will get bad drops the first time you pan around for a while.
Edit** Removed issue. called my ISP and fought with them, the problem is on their end. If others are having a latency issue try contacting your ISP and fighting with them until they double and triple check.
It’s highly unlikely that the problem is with many major national ISPs, is it?
I do believe there’s a thread on Blizzard’s forums currently saying Comcast users may/will experience higher latency due to some issue on Comcast’s end. Any ISP’s that also go through Comcast would also experience such issues. So it “can” happen to major ISP’s from time to time.
I’m not saying it can’t happen to major ISPs. I’m saying it can’t happen to the major ISP from many countries spread out across the world. Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Israel, Turkey, Poland, Russia and many more have been mentioned in this thread.
Unless there’s a problem with one of the major routing backbones of the European internet infrastructure (there isn’t, because people would be having problems elsewhere as well; other games, major websites and web services), or it’s on Anets end. The odds of all of these ISPs having the same problem at the same time is astronomical.
It’s highly unlikely that the problem is with many major national ISPs, is it?
Once again is unplayable due to lag for me. Can’t believe Anet have not even bothered to reply here.
Idk how it is with American major ISPs but the ones in Canada tend to be awful. It could always be that there is an issue with your line (which is what’s wrong with mine). It’s always safe to contact your ISP just to check on that. Then again it just can be bad connections at Anet with their servers, or their ISP’s servers.
The symptom I, and that just about everyone else with the issue has, is that everything else regarding internet is 100% fine, only GW2 sucks. This ranges from Portugal to Thailand, going by the posts.

Can we not get network latency (lag) confused with low frame rates? they have nothing to do with one another.
Lag again, disconnections, plays perfectly during the day but evenings are unplayable.
Another evening, another unplayable evening. Speedtest once again confirms that my 10Mbit VDSL connection is running at 10Mbit with 12ms ping and 0 packet loss.
Guild Wars 2? Absolutely unplayable. Not a word from Anet. Joke.
We know it’s nothing to do with our ISPs, as it’s affecting people from Portugal to Russia and everywhere in between.
Bombard their twitter and facebook account with polite requests to at least get us a status update.
At the moment Anet are ignoring this issue, despite it being off and on for the better part of two weeks.
Unplayable lag is back again tonight.
Can’t sign into characters that are in Divinity’s reach. Playing in Krytan regions gets huge lag spikes and average ping of 5000ms.
Come on now, ANET. This has been going on for almost two weeks.
Latest update severely harmed my computer.

There were some Windows updates in the last week or so that have been causing similar problems.
I didn’t actually have any lag or dcs the day before that outage either, so I think it was fixed before then for some, if not all of us.
Are some people still having problems?
It’ll be one of the relays somewhere between EU and their servers in Dallas that’s broken again. That was the problem last time, and it’s also been the problem in the past with Guild Wars 1.
If you’ve got access to a VPN that allows you to take a different route to their servers in Dallas, it’ll work.
Changing ISP in the same country? Won’t change a thing.
Hmm, I don’t remember that being the case when there were problems around launch, but I could be wrong.
@Ariete My ISP is also ZON and same problem.
At rest i believe all tracert will end in timeout even for the ppl that don’t have connection problems since the probable cause is arena servers not replying (Firewall).
Anyway my trace is:

Hey guys, can you let it get all the way to 30 before you stop it? each “hop” is important.
It’s Switzerland too, as well as Spain and Portugal going by posts in other forums.
Please put tracerts in here so they can see it easily;

Run tracerts and post the results in here (instructions given). Lets help them find the problem rather than just complaining about it without giving any meaningful info.
I’ve just made a thread that people can post tracert info into, rather than just complaining and not actually attempting to help.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/ATTN-ANET-Tracerts-for-EU-issues
Can we make a thread just for posting the tracerts in regarding the ongoing connection issues and unplayable lag that we’ve been getting over the last week in EU?
Post ISP, Country, and a copy of a tracert test, as so;

1) To run tracert, first go into GW2 and, on a map that you’re having issues with, type “/ip” and press enter.
2) Open a command prompt window (as admin) and type "tracert (number from step 1).
3) Let it finish (it will go to number 30) and then paste results in here. (You can select all via right click on the command prompt window, then copy with ctrl-c).
Game is pretty much unplayable in over half the zones at prime time, and has been for a week. Is this the result of guesting? I’m playing on Aurora Glade which is one of the fuller servers.
Can we get some people to post tracerts here until someone takes notice of the problem?
To do this, in GW2 type /ip and press enter.
Launch command prompt as administrator.
Type “tracert [206.127.146.51]” and press enter.
Let the test finish and copy/paste the results in this thread. Also post your country and ISP.

i7 3930K, 16GB 2133 RAM, AMD HD7970 - 45 FPS?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: ZaxanRazor.6235
Yup, u have to overclock to get more FPS, the stock i7 will bottleneck since game uses 1 core only the others just feed from the main thread.
What absolute nonsense. Don’t listen to this.
An i7 won’t bottleneck anything. I have one, I can easily get 60FPS in Divinity’s Reach.
OP, do you have reflections and / or supersampling on?
I had the same issue, it was shortly after launch, it was fixed in 2 days.
Is it only affecting certain Zones for you guys?
If I try and play in Kessex Hills the game is unplayable and kicks me out often. If I play anywhere else it’s seemingly OK.
Massive lags (only in Harathi Hinterlands)

We have the same problem with Kessex Hills. Playing on Aurora Glade – everywhere else seems to be playable.
My wife just got 5/5 on her account but didn’t get a chest.
All the same character.
She did most of it in Kessex Hills which is having major server problems on Aurora Glade, if that’s anything to do with it.
2 Computers in the same house. Not had any issues until today, started this afternoon.
We’re playing on Aurora Glade.

Swisscom. There aren’t any current issues with Swisscom, according to their service centre.
Anyone else having problems? Massive rubber banding and ping shoots up towards 10 seconds, then plays for a little, before going right back up.
Strange thing is we’re not getting disconnected, even if we can’t do anything for 20 seconds.
EDIT::::
Seems to only affect certain zones. I was playing in Cursed Shore, my wife in Kessex Hills. My wife could hardly play, whereas I was having no problems. If I go to Kesses Hills, I get the same problems.
EDIT 2:::
Just been booted out of Kessex Hills, Err 7:11:3:189:101

Any game that has to deal with rendering interactive objects and large numbers of players will be CPU bound, in the end.
That won’t change unless there’s a shift in GPU technology.
If you have a z68 / z77 board, chances are you’re able to download and make use of a program called virtu MVP.
Do it.
Go to your motherboards manufacturer site, look at the downloads list and find the latest version, for example;
Here for ASRocks z77 Extreme 4M
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme4/?cat=Beta
Open it up, enable Hyperformance.
Go to the Applications tab and manually add GW2. It will tell you it’s not supported but that’s fine. Make sure it’s in D-mode and tick the box in the H column.
Launch GW2.
On my setup;
i7 2600K
GTX 670
In Lion’s arch I would tank frames, running through the middle of the city (near bank, forge and trading post) my frames would tank on best appearance (reflections off) – maxing at around 50, dropping as low as 25, averaging around 35
When Virtu MVP is enabled, my frames no longer tank. In fact, they stay at a solid 55-60 FPS, which is an improvement of over 20FPS in the city (vsync on).
I haven’t tried this in WvW yet, but I would love it if someone did.
If someone can get the Virtual Vsync to work with GW2, let me know. You might have to disable Vsync in game.
Before this thread gets very large, someone will probably point out that there is a test server.
At which point you can change your question and start asking why its existence and those participating on it are not amounting to the expected result. Maybe the participants are failing to do an adequate job, maybe the developers are not listening to the feedback.. who knows.
If that’s the case then it must simply be down to the test server not being populated enough.
Guild Wars 2 is an incredibly complex game.
What we’ve seen whenever a feature has been introduced is that it doesn’t work as intended.
The Karka World Event was a problem for many players to compete because they were trying something the first time and it didn’t go as planned.
The Ranger box from the laurel vendors is bugged and doesn’t always give items that Rangers can actually use.
Loot drops are poor and DR can actually lead to chests from dragons not spawning for players who do the events often.
I’m sure many of you can come up with other examples. I don’t mind that the odd thing doesn’t work properly, but it does become a bit disappointing when it seems that every new feature hasn’t been tested by a large enough audience before going live.
Surely a test server would get around this issue? What do we think?
I think the most important thing is world drops. It’s rubbish at the moment.
Start fixing the Guardian to make more than 1-2 tank/support builds viable and allow different playstyles to be competitive.
Isn’t that a bit narrow-minded?
They should make sure all classes have the same number of viable builds, rather than just doing one at a time – otherwise everything is constantly way out of balance.
I’m looking forward to more ways to get achievements.
I’m hoping they get the balance right between the number of laurels needed to purchase items and the desire not to grind for months.
It is currently 7am PST on the 28th which means the patch will launch sometime in the next 17 hours.
I will post periodic updates for people that do not understand time zones
Listen, stop being conceited.
It’s not about people not understanding timezones, it’s about announcing to a global (please understand this includes places outside of the USA) audience than an update will happen on the 28th when it in fact won’t.
It seems to me that you are the one who doesn’t understand the concept of a global audience. Or would you like ANet in the future to set their release dates as “28th-ish”?
It is just a patch update. What, everyone has to know the exact minute the patch is going to go live? And then complains about that? Talk about first world problems…
What manner of kitten backward logic is this? I don’t understand the term “global audience” because I expect dates to be correct globally rather than one specific region?
Is it so hard to understand;
USA: 28th
rest of the world: 29th???
OR, 28th PST, or whatever they use. You know, when they want to not have to type the exact time and date for the entire globe. Sort of the reason the whole thing was invented.
Yes, because typing three lines is so much extra work and planning as opposed to typing one vague, unclear line?
1. That is the standard way of announcing global dates.
2. Seems you’re pretty much the only one to whom this is unclear. Also, ANet is based in the US. When they say 28th, it means their time, not yours. This is a basic skill when living in a global society, master it and quit complaining about two extra lines of text like horrible things are going to happen if they get it “wrong” again.
Sigh.
THEY ALSO SAY ON THE EU SPECIFIC AND LOCALISED PAGES THAT THE PATCH LAUNCHES ON THE 28TH.
Clear?
If it launches on the 29th, do we have a point then? Like all the other times?
Christ.
Also, look at other MMOs, it’s not the “standard” way of announcing dates. The rest of your post you seem to have made up yourself without any relevance to anything else in the thread.
Get technical and specific all you like. For me? bottom line is I have to wait less than 24 hours. I might live a day longer than all of you because I do not get worked up by any of you imbeciles and waste my time arguing over the internet. Peace out.
P.S. Well I guess I might get hit by a bus and die young, but you get my point. Be calm and think straight, what’s the maximum consequence of a single day’s delay?
Well nothing – I’m not getting worked up over when the patch hits.
1) I would like Anet to be more specific and consistent with dates.
2) The only part that gets me worked up is the ignorance of posters who just seem unable to grasp why giving customers the wrong date isn’t perfect business practice.
It is currently 7am PST on the 28th which means the patch will launch sometime in the next 17 hours.

Yes, because typing three lines is so much extra work and planning as opposed to typing one vague, unclear line?
So would you be fine if on the US it said “update on the 28th” but it actually rolled out on the 29th because haha timezone and we couldn’t be arsed to communicate clearly with all of our customers, just those that live in the same zone as us!
Why yes, I would. Because haha I don’t care about the exact minute and second the patch goes live since my life doesn’t revolve around GW2.
Besides, don’t you like surprises? :p
Minute = day now?
The logic, it hurts.
Is it so hard to understand;
USA: 28th
rest of the world: 29th
???
