I didn’t have any problems with this achievement, but maybe keep in mind the following:
1. The Honeycomb must be at 100% for you to be completely safe behind it. Hiding behind a partially completed honeycomb will reduce the damage you take, but you won’t get the achievement.
2. The trolls have a (very annoying) knockback attack that can knock you out of the honeycomb’s safe zone. Depending on lag, they might have done it before your screen shows the beam hitting your location, ending up in the server thinking you got hit even though your screen says you were safe.
3. Related to above, server latency can sometimes mean you become de-synced. The server thinks your position is different to where your screen shows you are. Thus, you might think you’re hiding behind the honeycomb, but in reality you’re still standing outside it. You can sometimes re-sync yourself by performing an emote, so give this a try if you don’t seem to get the achievement even though you’re standing behind the honeycomb.
Yes, I made this mistake too.
Ah well. At least the tonic is somewhat amusing to backflip everywhere.
^ To add to this, ANet will never “warn” you about a potential account shutdown. If they notice something fishy going on with your account, they’d ban/suspend you immediately to stop the hacker/gold sellers from doing any more damage, and so they don’t tip off the gold sellers that they’re on to them.
So basically, you can ignore/delete any such e-mails or messages you get. The only time you need to worry is if you try to log into your account and find that it’s locked.
One big question is whether the Nightmare Courtiers are willing to give up their free will to Mordremoth. Based on what we saw from Scarlet and Aerin, they still retain their intelligence and their capacity to reason, but the dragon probably dictates to them what they do. One also wonders whether Mordremoth’s influence is like a constant presence in their mind, controlling their every move, or whether they are left largely to their own devices when they do not have an immediate task to do.
Hmm, I’ll take your word for it then. I know next to nothing about how voice actors are paid for their work.
For those who haven’t seen it yet, there is new dialogue involving Hero-Tron, Kiel, Magnus and Gnashblade in Lion’s Arch.
Hmm, good point, Mileinnor. But I suppose there does need to be some tradeoff between actually braving the Mordrem in SW to open chests as opposed to just opening them in the safety of your HI.
The Charr will crush all of you weaklings beneath our iron-shod heels.
So how’s that Ebonhawke problem working out for you? Ever manage to break it?
Of course we did. You see Charr openly walking the streets of Ebonhawke now, don’t you?
I imagine that our Sylvari characters in-game won’t see much difference. Writing a completely different storyline for Sylvari characters is a lot of work, and is usually the province of single player RPGs. I imagine that our PCs are famous/trusted enough that the Biconics, Destiny’s Edge and the world leaders will continue to work with us.
From the teaser trailer, however, it seems that general society won’t quite feel the same. Anti-Sylvari sentiment may turn into riots and pogroms, as common people fear that any Sylvari, even those protected by the Dream, might turn into potential psychotic killers overnight. Racial leaders may need to enact programs to calm them down, which could result in systematic expulsion or oppression of Sylvari citizens in places that are not Sylvari territory.
Overall, it could be a very grim and thought-provoking climate (with a lot of parallels on the direction our own societies are taking) in which to set an expansion, which I’m actually quite interested to see. I do acknowledge that some players, particularly those who belong to minorities, may feel a bit uncomfortable by the direction though.
The Charr will crush all of you weaklings beneath our iron-shod heels.
I actually think they’re ALL Turai Ossa. Each Ghostly Hero is Turai Ossa from a different “World” (i.e. Blackgate or Tarnished Coast or Kaineng.) They’re basically all the same guy from alternate realities competing to be the one admitted into the Hall of Heroes.
Most of the Common and Uncommon dyes can be acquired for a few silver each. If you’re looking to pad out your dye collection, just buy the ones you want. The same goes for Rare dyes; find one that you like, then buy it off the TP. Unidentified dyes now cost upwards of 50 silver each, and there’s no guarantee you’ll get the one you’re after. I recommend against crafting dyes too since that’s usually more expensive than simply buying the specific dyes you need.
Skins can be gotten in a variety of ways, but here’s some ideas to expand your collection:
1. Buy cheap skins off the TP. The T1 Cultural weapon skins, like Krytan or Glyphic, can all be acquired very cheaply in this manner.
2. If you do WvW, buy the T2 Cultural weapon skins with Badges of Honor.
3. Use your karma to buy some karma sets that can’t be acquired any other way. Examples include the Pirate weapons (from the end of Weyandt’s Revenge JP), the Lionguard weapons (bought from the vendors in LA), the Centaur weapons (bought from a karma vendor in Harathi Hinterlands) and the Ebonhawke weapons (bought from the karma vendors in Ebonhawke).
Always make sure to buy the cheapest version. The level 45/60/80 variants all use the same skin, but the level 80 version costs much more karma than the level 45 version.
4. If you are levelling crafting, make sure to craft a set of the unique skins for both armor and weapons at each Tier. Some of these skins are also part of Collections.
5. For other skins, such as Exotics or other unique weapons, I recommend just saving up and buying specific items that you like the look of.
I am a bit sad that they didn’t use the original voice actor for Turai Ossa. Fred Tatasciore is an awesome voice actor, but… Hearing the Mad King as Turai Ossa just super out of place. XD
Besides, all of Turai’s lines in this episode are word-for-word repeats of what he said back in the original GW1 missions. Couldn’t they just have recycled the same voice files?
As Bobby mentioned above, the plot hole of the Firstborn not being aware of Riannoc’s death at the time of “The Newly Awakened” was realised (and should be fixed now, although I haven’t replayed it to check what is said now).
Basically, Riannoc is still indeed the very first Sylvari to die, and it happened before Malomedies was captured and experimented on by the Asura. It seems that now Wynne is the second Firstborn to die, and the very first Sylvari to be murdered by her own kind (even if she did ask Caithe to do the deed).
That is one aspect to the whole “Sylvari are dragon minions!” reveal that I’m really looking forward to. How will ordinary Tyrians react to the knowledge once normal Sylvari start freaking out and going all Terminator on their neighbours. Of course, once the Pale Tree recovers it’s likely only Soundless that are at risk of doing so, but come on, look at real life. People are usually all too quick to tar a single ethnicity or religion with the same brush. All Sylvari will likely be looked at with suspicion or fear, even if they are at no risk of being corrupted.
And what’s more, does that mean that now the Pale Tree must forbid any Sylvari from choosing to go Soundless, for their own good? It could be an interesting commentary on at what point must an individual’s freedom and rights be restricted for the good of the greater society. (You could draw a comparison with gun control, for example. Or smoking.)
Yeah, I think it’s because with the Pale Tree so badly injured (remember, last we spoke to her she was still lapsing in and out of consciousness) she was no longer able to protect the Dream to the same extent she normally does. It’s possible that, if the attack on the Grove had never happened, the Sylvari aboard the Pact fleet would never have turned at all. (Unless some of them are Soundless. It seems that all Soundless are now at risk of falling to Mordremoth’s corruption, but the risk greatly increases the closer they are in proximity to Mordremoth or his minions.)
I have a feeling that Mister E is the same person who gave the Master of Peace the egg.
Sohothin (along with Magdaer, King Adelbern’s sword) are ancient magical weapons from Orr, and I believe they were constructed during a time when the Six Gods still physically lived in Arah. If that’s true, then it stands to reason that Sohothin is powered by divine magic, which seems to be especially potent against dragon minions.
No no no, we should have a Super Elder Dragon, Voltron-style.
As I mentioned in another thread, with the revelation that Sylvari are indeed dragon minions, it stands to reason that the Dream is actually the “hive mind” of Mordremoth, in the same way that all other dragon minions share a hive mind with their Elder Dragon. Therefore, once Scarlet became corrupted, she knew everything Mordremoth did, and thus was able to access the Dream to learn things a normal Sylvari wouldn’t know, including Caithe’s secret.
With the revelation that Sylvari are, in fact, dragon minions, I now believe the following:
1. The Dream is actually the “hive mind” of Mordremoth, the same way that other dragon minions share a hive mind with their Elder Dragon. The Pale Tree is protecting the Sylvari from Mordremoth’s corruption by essentially “filtering” it, somehow, allowing the Sylvari access to knowledge from the Dream, but without granting Mordremoth the ability to control the Sylvari through it.
2. Sylvari can still be physically corrupted by Mordremoth by coming into too close in proximity to Mordremoth or his corrupted minions. Sylvari who cut themselves off from the Dream (i.e. become Soundless) are especially at risk, but even good Sylvari who are within the Dream can become corrupted if they are not especially strong-willed. (Another possibility is that the Sylvari aboard the Pact vessels got corrupted simply because the Pale Tree was so badly injured her ability to filter the Dream was gravely weakened. Had the attack on the Grove not happened, only Soundless are at risk of corruption and the Sylvari aboard the ships would never have turned at all.)
3. Unlike other types of Elder Dragons, who corrupt their minions from existing creatures, many of Mordremoth’s minions are living creatures in their own right. (The Thrashers and the Sylvari, in particular. The Husks, Teragriffs and Trolls appear to be corrupted versions of existing creatures.) As living creatures, they do have the ability to choose their own path in life, unless they individually become corrupted/controlled by Mordremoth.
With the revelation that Sylvari are indeed dragon minions, it stands to reason that the Dream is actually the “hive mind” of Mordremoth, in the same way that all other dragon minions share a hive mind with their Elder Dragon. Therefore, once Scarlet became corrupted, she knew everything Mordremoth did, and thus was able to access the Dream to learn things a normal Sylvari wouldn’t know.
Cheers for the info, guys.
I’m guessing that these recipes are drops from the Vinewrath’s chest.
You really need to stop clicking on those video links from the Inquest database, dear.
My advice would be to try asking/begging your guild for help. Usually once the initial release has passed, interest in getting the achievements goes way down. (A big reason why I always try to complete achievements as soon as possible after they first come out.)
You get the Bloodstone Pot Pie by talking to Seimur Oxbone in the same story instance as the achievement.
…
I second that.
You know that doesn’t count, right?
Why would somebody use the exact same signature on his sock puppet account? O.o Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose?
What can I say? It’s shiny. Me wants the shinies.
Basically, yes, you have to complete all the Seeds of Truth achievements to unlock Wynne’s Locket. You get one copy for free, but the vendor only sells additional copies if you’ve already unlocked it. It’s so you can acquire more copies for your alts if you want them.
-sigh-
But that wouldn’t surprise me.
At least the Kidney and Eye are only one body part each…
I honestly don’t know. Someone else will have to confirm. On the one hand, past precedence says the NPCs will be gone once the festival is over. On the other hand, we now have a source of Wintersday gifts all year long, so it would make sense for Sonders (or another NPC) to be available so we can turn in the woolens that keep on piling up.
Yeah, we don’t exactly have confirmation that it’s an expansion yet. It likely IS, because you generally only trademark “big stuff”, but let’s wait till PAX South first.
They’re not to my tastes, but I imagine they would be the perfect theme some players are looking for. (Especially roleplayers who have Sylvari characters that go down the “I SERVE MORDREMOTH” route.)
Let me guess… It’s needed for one of the new Collections?
The official explanation will probably be that our PCs (along with key Sylvari NPCs) are simply “stronger willed” than other Sylvari and better able to resist Mordremoth’s whispers. I highly doubt that ANet will do anything to remove player agency over their own Sylvari characters (it usually backfires terribly on any company that’s tried it in other video games), so I’m confident that our PCs will never succumb to Mordremoth. (RP-wise though? Different story.)
I’m particularly interested to find out if Faolain and the Nightmare Court have willingly allied with Mordremoth (and if so, if they retain their free will), or if they are being controlled by him like the other Sylvari who fell to his corruption.
The Sons of Svanir are not actually dragon minions. They are misguided fools who believe that Jormag is the Spirit of Dragon, and venerate him as such. Very often, the Icebrood corrupt Sons of Svanir into becoming Icebrood, making the SoS a recruiting pool of sorts, but they are not dragon minions as yet.
As far as I know, you have to pay gold to unlock them in PvP. Having the specific runes/sigils currently in use on the character makes no difference.
The harsh truth is that there are far, far, FAR more PvE players than PvP players. The introduction of reward tracks got more people into PvP, but a lot of those (including me!) are mainly there to farm reward tracks, either because they are a faster way to the rewards we want (dungeon skins), or they’re the ONLY reliable way to the rewards we want (e.g. Fossils, the Rime Rebreather). If the reward tracks weren’t there, we wouldn’t be in PvP at all.
ANet’s hope is that by having reward tracks there is that some of the PvE’ers will go, “Hey, PvP is actually pretty fun!” and end up staying, thus injecting new blood into the PvP circuit. And it DOES work, but only a fraction of the PvE crowd will do so. It’s just the law of statistics, I’m afraid.
I play for the Reward Tracks, and eventually to farm my way to a Dragon rank.
Hotjoin is basically the “kiddie pool” of PvP. It’s mostly there for people to do their Dailies and to muck around, set up dueling servers, guild training arenas etc. You can use it to practice builds by getting familiar with rotations, what skills do, but yeah, if you actually want to practice in a true Conquest 5v5 mode, you need to go to Unranked.
I never thought I’d actually meet a player who wanted LESS rewards. O.o Still, if that’s what you want, why not? Maybe reward tracks are left blank unless you activate one.
Nope. The animation plays when a new mail is sent to them, not when they actually open it.
I can’t say I’m really surprised by this revelation. It did seem like a fairly plausible theory, and I can see how it would make sense. I’m now fairly interested to see how this knowledge, if widely disseminated, will affect the world and how Sylvari are treated.
1. We can safely assume that ANet will not do anything to take away player agency and control of their Sylvari characters, so our characters are at no risk of falling under Mordremoth’s control.
2. It’s more or less confirmed now that the Nightmare Court are those Sylvari who have embraced the dark side of Mordremoth’s influence in the Dream, but who still retain their free will. Will the Nightmare Court, if the truth comes out, openly embrace their heritage and surrender themselves to Mordremoth’s will? Or would they still try to retain their independence, and conduct evil acts while still fighting the Mordrem as they would any other foe?
3. Likewise, given that any Sylvari who chooses to go Soundless (i.e. cut themselves off from the Dream) are placing themselves at a great risk of falling under Mordremoth’s control, does that mean that the Pale Tree should forbid any Sylvari from choosing to go Soundless, for their own good and that of society? If so, it would be an interesting commentary on whether it is right to take away the rights of sentient beings for their own good or the greater good.
@Konig: I’d be sorry to see you go. You’re one of the most knowledgable loremasters here, but I can understand if you feel the change in direction is too much to accept.
But yes, the latest chapter seems to suggest that Divine magic is a bane to the Mordrem (and potentially, other types of dragon minions?) Are the Six Gods somehow drawing on a different source of magic to what the Elder Dragons consume? Or has it been “purified” somehow into a form that is anathema to Dragons and their minions?
Oh yes, the Laurels chest is by far the best choice as far as guaranteed value is concerned. But you’d be surprised by how many players don’t realise that Heavy Crafting Bags give T6 mats (there’s new players asking how to use Laurels to make money all the time). More than that, there’s never a shortage of people who think “Oooh, there’s a chance for Damask! I bet I’ll be the one to beat the odds!” and gamble on it.
But if so, it’s not really a huge issue considering the Silverwastes reward track is not repeatable.
Citadel runes are basically selling for vendor price on the TP right now. If you don’t mind not being at tip-top DPS output, Citadel runes make for a nice, poor man’s substitute for a zerk Necro.
Wow, Healix… O.o
And I thought I had too many Laurels at 754. XD
I think that the range on Rifle is fine. But I really, REALLY do wish that they hadn’t completely removed the Bleeds from it. Maybe they could be added back to, say, Volley.
But even then, I only plan on making ONE Tengu character. (Thief, of course!) I’m coming up to 250 Tomes of Knowledge soon, so that will barely make a dent in my growing stash. :P
Yeah, it could go either way. On the one hand, prices for Ascended mats were already stabilising as the bulk of the players who wanted it had already finished their Ascended gear. On the other hand, this “easy” access to Ascended mats might now spur players who didn’t want Ascended gear before to now start trying for it.
But I agree that the best time to buy them would no doubt be in the next 24 hours, when the bulk of the player base hits their 28th day.
