Killface has the right idea. Introduce a new Mystic Forge recipe to convert stuff like leather, metal and cloth into each other at lower rates of return, and you’d see prices become balanced extremely quickly. “Downgrade” recipes could also work.

100 gems for an unlimited tool skin change seems like a fair enough compromise. (Although, before that happens, I strongly suggest that something be done to address the quality imbalance between the different tools, because I can predict everybody swapping their picks to the Watchwork Pick for the bonus.)

The price has balanced out for the most part. Just because it is higher than you want to pay doesn’t mean it isn’t balanced.

Yeah, it seems to have stabilised, although it’s still higher than I would pay for it. No problem though. I’ll just patiently wait for the next time when the Pavilion returns.

But back on topic, yeah, I agree that Gwynfyrd (or however you spell that stupid name) should be tradeable. As Astral mentions above, you should never have a valuable item that players might not want. It feels like rubbing it in when you get a super rare item that you KNOW other players would gladly pay hundreds, or even thousands, of gold for, but you can’t sell it, even if you don’t like the item.

RNG is RNG, but I do agree that the Fractals spoons seem rarer than most. It doesn’t help that it only drops from mobs, and there is a tendency for players to skip mobs in several Fractals.

I do a Fractals run once a week. Since the September feature patch, I’ve only ever gotten 2 Fractal spoons. In contrast, I’ve gotten about 20 Siege Commander spoons, and I got the Carved Bone Spoon on my very first attempt when doing Tequatl again after the Collections.

Necro Minions all die when downed

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

There is a new bug (I think it got introduced somewhere around the September feature patch) where if a Necromancer gets downed, all of their minions also get instantly destroyed. This is a great handicap to a player running a MM build, especially in PvP. (As if we already didn’t have enough troubles with minions deciding to not attack.)

This definitely can’t be intended behaviour either; if it were, then in order for it to be fair, all Mesmer illusions, all Engineer turrets and Ranger pets/spirits also need to instantly die when their player is downed.

Major Lag and Clocktower is bugged.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Yeah, it’s a latency issue. You’re desynced enough from the server that the animation of the spinning clocktower is not matching up precisely with the small window of opportunity for you to jump through.

If the lag is minor, you might be able to compensate for it by jumping earlier than usual, but if it’s bad enough, I usually just leave the server and try to find another one with better ping. (As mentioned above, the giveaway is whether or not the gears exploding out of the tower at the start do so in a single smooth animation or whether it stutters/suddenly appears out of thin air.)

Zaxares.5419

As far as I know, Hero of the People (as well as Fine Wining and Brewmaster) still cannot be unlocked at this time.

I actually have a feeling that Fine Wining and Brewmaster might have been pulled completely because it could have been construed as “promoting alcohol consumption”, which might affect GW2’s rating.

Mesmer Clones with real explosions

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Yep, dagr is right. The Mesmer in question has picked one or more traits that cause effects when they shatter or destroy their clones, hence the “explosion”.

Personally though, I wish they wouldn’t. I find the “purple butterflies” effect to be more aesthetically pleasing than the explosions, and I actually don’t run any of the shatter traits for precisely that reason.

hotjoin is terrible

in PvP

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

I’m not sure that would be a wise move, Aberrant. Removing rewards from Hotjoin is more likely to result in the following:

1. All those autobalancers/team stackers currently in Hotjoin just move into Solo/Team Queue instead. If you think the two modes are bad now, imagine how much worse it would be with even more afkers, quitters or IPHIW types in there.

2. The Hotjoin players just leave PvP altogether. You might think that’s a victory, but it also deprives newbies to the PvP scene of a place to get their feet wet and learn without real consequences, while also still leaving players feeling like they’re being rewarded for their time. Events in GW2 over the last year have made it abundantly clear that players will only stay in a map or game mode if they feel it is profitable to be there.

Actually, they said that Halloween itself ends on Nov 4. They didn’t explicitly say that the reward track would also disappear.

I actually have a feeling the Halloween reward track will still be available even after Nov 4. Thanks to the Maize Balm, PvE players will be able to farm ToT bags all year around (and ANet’s statements have suggested that they intend for players to farm them year round). If so, then it only makes sense that the reward track would also stay so that PvP players can get the same opportunity.

Candy Corn Gobbler for 300 gems = P2W

in WvW

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

That there is the problem then. P2W means different things to different people. Rabbi Rick was pretty clear with his definition. My definition broadens that a bit to include “the option to pay real money to acquire content, items, or achievements that would otherwise require large invested amounts of gameplay time”. (Case in point, the furor that erupted over the Flamekissed armor when it was first introduced. Many players, rightly or not, felt that it was P2W to let players acquire what arguably looked even better than T3 Cultural armor, even though the gold price if you sold gems for it was only slightly lower than the cost for T3 Cultural at the time.)

Some other players, meanwhile, only consider something P2W if it grants the player a direct advantage in PvP or direct competition. Buying expensive skins, gem store-only minis, etc. all do not count as P2W in their books, and still would not count as P2W even if the gem exchange did not exist.

So TIRED of being a rag-doll!

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

I honestly don’t think it’s as bad as the OP and others make it out to be. The problem arises when people just try to run past all the mobs, thereby aggroing a lot more of them than they can reasonably handle. When there’s one or two Mummies, you can easily dodge their pulls and run past. When there’s 4 of them and 2 Skeletons with Point Blank Shot, then you’ve got a problem.

If you DO want to run past all of them to catch up with the zerg, then yes, you will need to swap in blocks/stealth/stability/cleanses etc., essentially turning yourself into a runner.

If not, you can just advance slowly and kill one or two enemies at a time. The Mummies have the most amount of CC, but they do not tend to use them if you’re right next to them, meaning that if you just engage them slowly, they are very manageable. It’s not like the Labyrinth is THAT large; eventually you’ll either catch up to the zerg when they’re fighting the Viscount/Lich/Horror, or they’ll catch up to you.

Candy Corn Gobbler for 300 gems = P2W

in WvW

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Well, I wouldn’t go that far. If there is a cash shop method and an in-game method for obtaining something, but the in-game method is so onerous and tedious that you’d be saving yourself months of work by just ponying up the cash, then I think it could still be counted as P2W. I’m not saying that GW2 does this, but if you had a game where it would literally take you a year, playing 4+ hours a day, to gain your last 10 levels/skill points/trait points, OR you could just pay the company $50, I think that would be a P2W situation in all but name.

As for the Consortium/Molten Sickle and the Watchwork Pick, they’re not P2W items in themselves, but they do represent a potential power creep trend in gem store items that I regard with a fair bit of wariness.

Please explain....

That only happened if the MM happened to DIE during the cutscene. Back in GW1, if the controlling MM died, any surviving minions did not instantly die; instead they became hostile to anyone and everything around them. This script did not go away even if the entire party was locked in a cutscene, so if the script killed the player as part of a scripted event, it would cause the minions to go postal.

I’m actually surprised you’re not in favour of this, Malediktus. I’d have thought you’d be all over another chance to boost your AP/get another exclusive mini/item. After all, you did complete all the Black Lion Weapon collections and the Dungeoneer collection by your own admission.

Where did I say I have all the Black Lion collections? I only have six completed (Phoenix, Ley, Chaos, Tempest, Halloween 2013 and Dragonjade)

Hmm… I might be mistaken then. I could have sworn you made a post saying you’d completed all the Black Lion weapon collections back when the Tempest weapons came out.

Still, my point stands. It would be a way for somebody rich/dedicated enough to acquire all the Legendaries to stand out. It might cause a small upswing in T6 and Precursor prices, but I honestly think that the majority of players wouldn’t bother going for it after seeing the costs involved.

That said, I would prefer to see a Precursor Scavenger Hunt before a Legendary Collection.

Yeah, I did notice that the sinks for the Nougat/Spiders/Skulls and their refined versions seem a bit inadequate. (I actually ended up buying Mini Carlotta, Prince Thorn and the Maize Balm recipe just for something to do with my excess of mats.)

I’d have added the various Pumpkin Oil/Crystal Nougat/Sharpening Skull recipes to the options for those mats. (Undecided on the quantity required. Maybe 1 or 2 refined material for each?) Just a suggestion for next year’s Halloween.

Maybe you could even introduce Mini Gwynfyrdd in exchange for 10 refined Nougats+Skulls+Fangs, although I don’t know if that would please or upset the mini collectors more. (Happier that they now have a way to earn it directly, or upset that it’s a “huge grind” to get?)

Track profitable objects for crafting

Technically, yes, but my own experience has shown me there’s always profitable niches to be found because the majority (the vast majority?) of players are lazy or don’t have the time to do the research themselves.

I’ve been selling Meaty Plant Food every single day for over two months now, and it’s STILL getting me a nice small profit, despite the fact that, if every single player with 400 Huntsman crafted one to sell each day, we would crash the price for it.

Candy Corn Gobbler for 300 gems = P2W

in WvW

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Mmm, I guess it’s one of those things where each player determines whether it’s worth it to them. Personally I can’t justify spending 1+ silver every time to get a buff, especially when there’s a high chance I’ll get a useless transformation instead of the specific buff I want. I also have boosters galore from AP and Black Lion chests, so it’s not like I’m starving for them either. Still, if other players think the price is worth it, then go ahead. They can spend their money how they like.

As far as P2W goes, I can see the arguments, but I don’t think it’s that bad. WvW is already not perfectly balanced; a level 80 will almost certainly stomp an uplevel in a fight. A level 80 with 5 stacks of Applied Strength + Fortitude has a noticeable advantage over one that doesn’t. Someone in all Ascended gear has an advantage over one in all Exotics. And of course, individual stats are practically negligible in massive blob vs blob fights.

WvW is full-scale war; servers can, and should, be seeking every possible advantage to win (as long as its not outright hacking/cheating). If a server has a whole guild of candy munchers running around with this booster, well, it’s a bit like the Greeks having the Myrmidons on their side during the siege of Troy.

[SUGGESTION] Improving Communications

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zaxares.5419

@LordKuru: Yeah, that’s why I think that the stickies should just be links to existing threads discussing the issue at hand. So for WvW, we would need a thread discussing hacks or siege trolls etc., and only post in the sticky thread if some new issue has come up (a potential new hack, or a new exploit location) that needs a dev’s attention when the thread’s been quiet for a while.

[SUGGESTION] Improving Communications

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

Thanks for the response, Gaile.

  • Yes, a big concern of mine was how to keep the stickied thread meaningful, yet still worthwhile. The idea behind the thread is to provide a way for players to call attention to issues that they want some feedback on or more information about (and thereby avoid the whole “ANet doesn’t care! It’s been X weeks/months since this thread went up and we’ve had no responses!” perception). To that end, maybe the thread should only be used as a “hotlink” thread to direct your attention to existing threads that could really use a dev response (see that example post I made in my OP, for example). I originally imagined that it could be used both as a platform to ask new questions, as well as a springboard to existing threads, but maybe having both in the same thread would be too broad.
  • I imagine that each sub-forum would have its own sticky thread. That way, issues pertaining specifically to a certain area of the game can be addressed by devs who would be best equipped to answer that question. (Maclaine and Cody have been doing a wonderful job of this in the Audio forum, for example. ) It also would help ease the burden on you since not everything has to go into the General Forum sticky.

For really slow moving forums, a sticky thread may not be necessary.

  • I really don’t have a good answer for how to set the bar for when threads deserve a mention. My gut feeling is that any issue in which multiple players are unhappy, and that can be traced back to some aspect of the game which is perhaps not working, or not working as it should, are valid candidates, but setting down hard and fast rules might mean that issues which only affect a small handful of players, but which affects them very badly, get overlooked.
  • For questions that can’t be answered, I honestly feel that telling us the reasons why a particular question can’t be answered is enough to satisfy us. For example, over in the BLTC thread, there’s been a number of occasions where John has straight-up told us, “I’m not allowed to actually reveal that information”, along with maybe a short explanation as to why. (Sometimes we players can answer that for him too! “It’s because that kind of information would be a boon to gold sellers”, “Companies usually cannot reveal any kind of real financial information except to shareholders”. I’ve noticed that John usually only steps in when it’s something that other regulars on the BLTC forum haven’t already answered for them, or something entirely new.)

If the issue in question is one that simply hasn’t had time to be addressed yet, then something as simple as “we are aware of this issue and are thinking of possible solutions, but we don’t have a time frame on when they will go in as we’re busy getting LS2 ready for release” will probably be enough to satisfy us. (At least temporarily. ) And down the track, when you do have more information, you can provide an update for us, like what happened with the missing female human animations.

  • I agree that any answers to a specific issue should go back in the original thread that spawned it. It should make answers regarding it easier to find via searches, and help keep the sticky thread from being cluttered with unnecessary posts.

And if I may end this on a somewhat selfish note, Gaile, we really could use an update over in the “My Greatest Fear” thread.

This idea came to me after reading the posts made by Gaile on this thread:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Want-the-human-female-animations-back/page/4#post4525864

It sparked a small discussion about what exactly it is that we players want from ANet in terms of communication, and how this could be achieved in a way that is reasonable and feasible.

We’ve seen a marked increase in red posts on the forums lately from a lot of devs in their areas of interest (e.g. John Smith posts quite frequently in the BLTC forum, Maclaine in the Audio forum, Gaile here in the General discussion), and I think that’s a great step in the right direction.

At the same time, for fast-moving forums, there are still several topics that tend to fall through the cracks. Now, we can’t really blame the devs for this; they have their own jobs to do and can’t really monitor the forums 24/7 to reply to every single post.

So… What if we instead had a sticky on each forum to call attention to major topics (and by major, I mean multi-page threads that have plenty of interest, and not just somebody bumping up their own personal thread over and over)? I got this idea from John Smith’s “I have a question about the economy” sticky thread over on the BLTC forum. As well as posting questions there, we can also use the [Communications] thread to post links to major topics, thereby giving Gaile or whichever dev most frequents the forum a single-stop place where they can see what are the burning issues players want a response about and respond.

As an example of how this Communications sticky thread might function:

Post 1: “Hi Gaile, we were wondering if you had any update on whether the devs are looking at reworking the Personal Story by re-introducing the missing Personal Story steps as discussed in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/My-Greatest-Fear-Plotline/page/7#post4525814

Gaile (or another dev who’s involved with the issue at hand) can then reply either in the linked thread, or on the Communications sticky thread itself, letting us know what the current status is.
