This achievement was infuriating, I agree. It could take you 2 minutes, or it could take you 2 hours, depending on your luck. Thankfully, I was done with it in about 20 or so mins, although it was frustrating seeing blue and green pop up again and again. I think the longest streak was 6 non-reds.
As others have pointed out, “mounts” already exist in the game, such as the Broomstick and Magic Carpet. I am fine with more of these being introduced, as long as they do not provide an innate speed boost.
Having a mount purely to speed up travel through the game is unnecessary since waypoints exist. However, I do agree that Mesmers badly need a passive +25% speed boost skill or trait.
True, but it would be pretty awesome if that little golem (or Queen Salma, heh heh heh) ran around to the various corpses and did a little “pick up” animation.
The economy actually caused grief to other players playing the game because people were spamming WTS/WTB on the map chat.
Ahh, Spamadan. How I don’t miss thee.
So Saturday after reset my time. Cool, I’ll drop you a whisper then.
Oh no, these are all purely from drops that I’ve accumulated through play. I’ve never bought extra Cores, and the only things I’ve spent them on so far was doing some Sup Rune/Sigil crafting for the crafting XP.
@SKATE: Actually, they put back the guild bank access from the guild registrar.
While the pack rat in me agrees with you all, there’s a reason why game design restricts the amount of stuff players can store. Put simply, the more players are allowed to store, the more they will hoard. This can then lead on to flow-on effects where instead of selling their loot (especially things like raw materials), players will simply hoard the stuff instead of putting it on the market. This increases scarcity and prices, and while it’s good for TP flippers, you can probably imagine the rage it would create for the average player when there’s simply no supply of the particular skin or material they want on the TP, because someone always buys it up the moment it goes on sale and then hoards it for a future time.
A guaranteed Giant Eye per kill might be a bit much. With an average of 60+ players for a successful kill, that’s 60 Giant Eyes being created every hour.
Something like a 10 – 20% chance might be more appropriate.
I have SIX sets of unlimited tools.
All bought purely for the convenience of never having to swap them between characters.
I wouldn’t mind them being changed so they are automatically applied to all characters, but you can bet I’d be demanding a gem refund if that were the case.
It’s probably just RNG. This is the breakdown of the most to least Cores that I have:
1. Onyx
2. Destroyer
3. Charged
4. Glacial
5. Essence
6. Crystal
7. Molten
8. Corrupted
EDIT: Whoops, missed Molten cores.

As Wanze pointed out, the vast majority of supply in the game is actually “hidden supply”, meaning that it’s stored away in players’ banks and inventories. As a rule of thumb, for the visible supply on the TP, assume there is at least 10 times that supply stored by players.
There is usually a period of “panic selling” after a holiday or event finishes, when players who hoarded up stuff during the event now want to clear shop so they have room for the next event. This means if you haven’t gotten the stuff you want, the time immediately after the event finishes is an excellent time to buy.
Zaxares in the past has claimed they very rarely drop from basilisks (rarely as in the way that lodestones drop from sparks). He also claimed it’s a rare drop from killing the Sand Giant in dry top. Take it for what you will, I’ve not verified whether it’s correct; I’m just putting it out there as information on the table.
But even if you take these locations into consideration, the drop rate of giant eyes is indeed ridiculously low.
You must be misremembering my posts.
1. The claim that they drop from (high-level) Basilisks was me repeating a claim that someone else on these forums made. I stressed that this was not something I have ever seen myself and thus was unverified, but I decided it was worth mentioning, since few players go out of their way to kill Basilisks.
2. I suggested that ANet should make it so the Sand Giant in Dry Top drops Giant Eyes, as a way to encourage players to fight him. He’s currently woefully ignored in just about all maps, since low-tier maps don’t have the numbers to fight him, and high-tier maps are more interested in farming Geodes than wasting time with him.
Definitely would love to see Doubloons get their own slots, if nothing else.
You think bifrost is ok? than you must be ok with a bow that is shooting rainbow horses.
You’d think I’d hate the Dreamer (since I do not like Quip or the Moot), but strangely, I find the Dreamer quite hilarious (even though I wouldn’t use it myself).
The only Legendaries I genuinely like are:
- Kudzu (unfortunately it doesn’t suit my Norn Ranger)
- Kraitkin (again, unfortunately it doesn’t suit any of my characters)
- Flameseeker Prophecies (can’t really see my Charr Warrior using it. A Guardian maybe, but not a Warrior)
The Predator also gets a mention for its unique sound effects, although again, I can’t see my Warrior using it. (He’s an up-close-and-personal style Warrior, not a sniper.)
Charged Sheets of Ambrite are basically available at vendor value (of the needed crafting mats) right now. So if you plan on crafting ascended (or exotic) sinister gear, I would buy some now, if you want to circumvent the timegate on charged quartz.
I already bought the amount needed for my planned Sinister Ascended weapon.
(Just the one, for my Necromancer.)
Yep, the Toxic Seedling nodes respawn much faster than normal nodes. Just head to Kessex Hills, do a full rotation through the map, and by the time you return to the first it will almost certainly have respawned.
… So THAT’S why the Boot Soles are so dirt cheap on the TP. XD
I’m pretty certain that any Ascended book backpiece will suffice. You just need it to unlock the “Koss on Koss” skin.
Thankfully, the DTOP guild does T6 maps at least 1-2 times a week so I’ve gotten all the recipes purchased…now to collect more geodes to buy more keys to hopefully get those last 4 I need!
Hey khani, what is this guild you speak of? I might consider tagging along since I also need to farm Geodes for those recipes.
(I plan on doing the PvP reward track to get the Fossils to make up for the RNG.)
Welp, I didn’t win any skins, but with only ~30 wrappers turned in (out of, what was it, 3.8 million?), I wasn’t seriously expecting to get anything anyway.
He’s not that hard in a group once you know his mechanics.
The big skill you need to avoid is his ground shockwave, and the trick is to dodge AFTER he lands, since the shockwaves don’t actually fire until a split-second afterwards. The stun is only really annoying when you’re trying to res downed party members.
I want the Fractal Sword. I have a guildie who has 3 of them and doesn’t want them.
We both have much sadness.
Yeah, my only complaint about the Teragriff’s is that their charge hitbox is abnormally wide. I get sent flying even though I’m clearly standing off to the side.
Aside from that, each of the Mordrem have distinct strategies to deal with them, as Xiahou mentioned in his excellent post. One thing I have not tested yet is if whether the Teragriffs only use their charge attack if you are not in melee with them.
It took me a couple of attempts before I figured out that you needed to have BOTH the attunement and the fragility buff before moving next to the vortexes for the Malevolent Memory. If I hadn’t learned earlier that the attunements knock you back when you already have the shield on you (which clued me in as to what was happening), I’d probably be quite frustrated too.
One way ANet might have made this more obvious is if Marjory yells a hint to you if you get knocked back a few times.
Note that conditions remain on the Facet of Light even after your buff wears off. If you run a condi Mesmer build like I do, you can stack a bunch of conditions like Bleeds/Burning on him and still have them damage him for a little while even after you retreat.
I do agree that the clones not getting the buff is extremely annoying though. The best I can do is use Signet of Illusions so that when I spawn clones I have a split second to hopefully shatter them before they get destroyed.
I agree that Dry Top may need a rebalance pass. It’s been largely abandoned which means that obtaining Geodes is a serious pain since most maps now struggle to get past T3. I’m thinking the following:
- The amount of Zephyrite favour given for each successful event completion is increased (double or even triple).
- The amount of base Geodes given for completing an event is increased from 2 to 4. This rate of increase is maintained at each Tier.
Very easy to solo now, especially if you’re not doing the No Thanks to Canach achievement at the same time. Just wait for the Wolves to move away, set up a mine, pull the wolves into the mine. Move forward and repeat.
It helps if you have a character with high AoE damage or control effects. I did it on my Elementalist who specialises in AoE damage. Sandstorm with its near-constant blind makes the Wolves a cakewalk in the event I get caught out without a mine to help.
There is also a very frequent “bug” where the two NPCs you’re supposed to protect disappear (they reappear back at where they first started). This means they’re completely safe and you’re basically assured of getting the achievement.
That’s a neat idea, Gulesave.
My only addition is that those favors be account-wide rather than character specific.
Hehe. Well, as someone who farms extensively, that’s what I’ve discovered.
I haven’t put it up on the Wiki since it’s just my personal experience.
Er, Rabid is one of those recipes that CAN’T be learned. Rabid inscriptions/insignia can only be salvaged from existing Rabid gear. Are you clicking on the inscriptions/insignia themselves?
We do know that Ogre Wars and Pursuit of Knowledge are being looked at, at least. However, no word on when those changes will actually get put into the game.
We know where the “eligibility line” is?
I stopped my characters right on the mission where you consult the pale tree, right BEFORE the vision. Is this too late? Will I be able to play the arc if they ever restore it?
No, you’re fine if they decide to restore it.
If you had started Chapter 7 (that is, you have completed the step “Forging the Pact”), you will have started on the old system involving Apatia et. al. (My Mesmer luckily is at this point.)
If you haven’t completed Forging the Pact, then unfortunately you will be shown the new mangled storyline. (Which my remaining 4 characters sadly are.)
We’d really appreciate a straightforward answer about this, Jeffrey.
There’s a HUGE ongoing thread on the General Forum about the restructured Personal Story (link at the end of this post).
Does ANet know about our concerns and are there any plans in the works to re-include or revert the Personal Story changes? There are a lot of players, myself included, who are afraid to continue with our PS for fear of permanently missing out on experiencing game content.
If the new system is intended to stay and there are no plans to change it, could you at least let us know so that we aren’t just waiting in vain for an answer?

It seems that the Rich Veins (along with T6 nodes like Orichalcum and Ancient Wood) have a hidden “limit” to how much mats they can give out in a particular map. Silverwastes actually has 3 Rich Mithril Vein spawns, along with 3 Ancient Wood and 2 Orichalcum nodes. However, if you fully mine 1 Rich Mithril Vein, the second Mithril Vein will only give out 2 or 3 strikes before vanishing. At this time, the 3rd Vein will also become unmineable.
The same thing occurs with the Ancient Wood. If you log two of them to completion, the 3rd one mysteriously becomes logged too, even if you didn’t go anywhere near it.
These limits are character-bound. Using the same character and hopping instances will not respawn the nodes for you, but using multiple characters will.
Well, as I said, “personally speaking”.
I can’t stand the look of the Incinerator, Quip, Twilight OR Sunrise. Bifrost is OK, but it SO does not suit a dark, gothic Necromancer. (Which I have.) But everybody has their own taste, so I won’t judge people if they do pick up these Legendaries.
It’s not the TP flippers who are complaining about this though. I think the people who are most upset about this are jewelry crafters who used to have small niches they could make profits in. With the overall collapse in Exotic jewelry prices thanks to people mass forging Twisters, that profitable market has disappeared.
Think about how things would be if everything sold for vendor price.
Are we talking everything? Up to and including Precursors? That would sound like a game where scarcity was completely eliminated. It would be a paradise for a player like me (since I get my gaming enjoyment primarily through content completion and story/lore), but I imagine it would also alienate many other players who like the feeling of uniqueness and/or superiority that rare gear brings.
One huge QoL change I would like for Bone Minions is for when I activate Putrid Explosion, it blows up the minion closest to the target, instead of the minion closest to me.
Um, don’t they already have a Skip button at the bottom right?
… If that’s true, Malediktus, I know what I’ll be recommending to the map the next time I’m in Dry Top and the Giant is up. XD
Really? Good to know then, Lazaar. I’m mainly farming Crests to buy up the various Sinister recipes. If spending them on keys is going to slow that down, then I’ll just save them up instead.
You can’t report people for actually playing PvP in a PvP mode. (As much as I hate those guys who gank people in Obsidian Sanctum, for example.)
Likewise, if you’ve created your own custom arena, you’re well within your rights to kick/block people who you do not want on your server. If you’re just farming ranks or PvP achieves, put a password on your server and only give it out to friends and guildies.
Why would that be though? It doesn’t teleport you, stealth you or make you invulnerable. Unless all transforms also make you drop the orb?
For Mesmers, note that Illusionary Counter also makes you drop the orb if you actually block an attack, since it also does a short range random teleport.
i think there are really some players who prefers to roll with the “winning” team regardless of rewards.
there could be some players who simply want to roll with the “superior” team no matter what, so they get to tag along for kills.
how could we solve that problem?
removing the ability to select teams is a first step, but then some people who complain about not able to choose teams.
This comes back to my suggestion to giving people who choose “Random” a special buff that functions identically to Autobalance win credit.
People who are happy to go on any team as long as they get the same rewards (like me and Becka) will pick it, and teams will fill faster. Players who are only in it to win/stomp weaker teams can still wait in Spectate, but they run the risk that, if they wait too long, the teams will fill due to more people picking Random. In which case, they either leave the match, or wait in Spectate till the next match, which doesn’t affect the people playing since the people waiting in Spectate wouldn’t have contributed either way.
You’re more than free to use whatever terminology you like in your fan-fiction.
Oh yes, I’m sure of that too. But why waste my T6 mats and Ectos discovering recipes now when I’ll only have to discover them again when r500 comes in? I already reached r400 just by discovering T5 jewelry (and I’m not even completely finished with those!) so there’s no need for me to discover Exotics at this time.
I haven’t tested this recently to see if it got patched at some point, but some months ago, the weird thing was that this “fix” doesn’t work in reverse. That is, if you build up 25 sigil stacks underwater, then head onto land with no matching sigil equipped, the stacks will NOT disappear. So there was an inconsistency between how it was working between land → water and water → land.
Hopefully Sinister Ascended gear will be introduced in a future update though.
