The internet gives so many people the false sense of importance

There is something fundamentally wrong with a person who doesn’t think that they, themselves, are important. In fact, people with low self esteem are rather dangerous.
I have spent far to much time being told that everyone is the same, and that no one is better than anyone else. There is no motivation in such statements, no incentive to improve oneself. After all, if no one can be better, how can anyone improve?
I have come to realize that I am hugely important. I am, in fact, the most important person I know.

I like the idea of the quest not finishing until you actually talk to the quest giver again. “I am not finished until I say I am finished!”

To be honest, I actually do like killing two birds with one stone and doing a heart event while completing another local event at the same time.

Still, disabling the auto complete at the end of a heart quest counter, and adding an, “am I done yet?” option to the npc dialogue tree should work. Just make it check the quest completion bar to make sure. That way you can ask all your questions, gather some collectables for fun and turn them in, then finish the quest when you feel like moving on.

It would probably take a while to implement such a change though.

Would You Still Play if There was NO Loot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zebulous.2934

I would. I barely look at my loot, I just salvage it so I can deposit it to my collections tab without having to go back to town.
It would provide a challenge for the game designers though, because it would limit character customisation somewhat. But if my character had say, a ‘default’ set of armor and set of weapons, and I could buy skins to change my appearance from the gem store, then I’d happily keep running about blasting things.

I like the story, I like the combat, I like the graphics, I like the game play… loot or no loot.

Armor would be standard issue. There would be no “skins”. No shiny of any kind. Your only reward would be the “fun” of killing for an achievement. There would be no monetary gain.

No shineys? No fancy gear? No customization beyond standard issue choices? Comrade, the game you describe sounds bland. There would be not point in playing the game once you hit the level cap. At that point you could do nothing to make fighting more efficient. In such a game everyone becomes the same, no one can improve past that point. The people will lack motivation, the great machine will stop. Many will leave, those that remain will be sullen and unmotivated. At best the game becomes a chat room with dolls for avatars. Without self interest, what is ambition? If you cannot improve yourself (your avatar) why struggle? Of what use is cooperation? Yes I achieve the title more quickly, but for what? My avatar is in no way improved by gaining this achievement. What was the purpose then?

In short, motivation is required, value must be gained. Either a direct gain, or a word of gratitude.

Smoking is the new media taboo in the United States. Tonnes of people smoke, but you would not know it by watching US television. If Gw2 added content that glamorized smoking, you can be sure that someone would make it a personal crusade to punish the company. You can also be sure there would be plenty of scavengers and parasites waiting to blow the whole thing out of proportion, so they can cash in politically and financially. Tobacco is the new gateway drug! Thank your lucky stars they allow alcohol in the game!

A backless, sparkling, evening gown would not go amiss… Going to have to replace that cigarette holder with a fan though.

Permanent gathering tools?

We can disagree about what and how many gold sinks there must be in the game, but it seems strange to me to try and pin down a numerical cost that would “make up for” an infinitely-useable, unbreakable gathering tool.

If it’s unbreakable, and useable an infinite number of times, the proportionate cost of the tool is not 10 gold or 25 gold — it’s infinite gold. Such an item would be absolutely priceless.

Having to maintain your gathering tools provides a gold sink that is small, manageable, and consistent. It’s required of all players equally, and allows for the same amount of everyday material acquisition, at the same rate for everyone.
An unbreakable gathering tool utterly cuts off this gold sink, for the purposes of providing a convenience for those who are skilled enough to farm or manipulate the economy, or those who are able to play more often. It is a reward for simply scraping together a large lump sum of gold — and once that lump sum is spent, the maintenance costs are lifted from those players forever. Essentially, it is a tax cut for the rich.
People who can generate mass quantities of gold at any one time do not need to be more highly rewarded, and they don’t need their play time to go easier than other players who are struggling to get by.

If you are a master at making money, you should be rewarded. If you can collect three or four times the number of mats or gold than a regular player then you should not be impeded by minor annoyances. If such a person is not a bot, they posses great patience and determination. Such people increase the availability of mats on the TP, lowering the cost of said mats to levels that casual players can afford.

As a casual player, I say give the highest producers whatever breaks they wish. More mats means lower prices, which means I have to grind less. “But, if prices are lower I won’t be able to sell my mats for a bunch!” So? Even if the mats you want to sell are cheaper, everything else you would buy from your profits will also cost less. The point is not to amass a huge amount of gold, the point is to get equipment in the most efficient manner possible. (spending the least amount of time and frustration upon my part.) I don’t give a kitten how rich the super gatherers are, as long as they keep contributing to the market to the best of their ability, I can pay less for the stuff I want.

If they want inexhaustible gathering equipment, fine by me, it makes me getting my legendarys that much easier. Less time I spend grinding for mats or gold the more time I can spend socializing or actually playing the game!

How do you ger rid of the Permanent DR?

There is no diminishing returns for stuff like magic-find. At least none I’ve noticed.
Maybe you’re just trying too hard and having bad luck.

I like DR So me as a casual player have less disadvantages.

That is a terribly short sighted and nihilistic view. We are talking about a reduction of wealth within the entire community. Less wealth can be, “produced.” This will create shortages.

In a games where resources are virtually limitless, this is by far the stupidest statement I have ever come across.

There is never a shortage in a game, only inflation making it difficult for casual gamers to acquire items OR challenge-difficulty intentionally gating the production of a resource.

In my opinion, they should stabilize karma-rewards across the game (dynamic events giving relatively similar reward amounts like 200 karma), then implement a more strict diminishing returns. (with returns hitting newbie areas slightly harder, so people don’t just farm in level20 zones)

That way, players can be more free to roam and enjoy the other awesome maps in the game, without “Cursed Shores is the only worthwhile map” looming over their heads.
Player traffic would be better spread too, making PvE look a little livelier.

The potential resources are virtually limitless. If very few can be gathered then there will be shortages. Oysters can be plentiful in the bay, but if all but one pearl diver catch the flu then pearls from that village are going to be scarce until the other divers are well enough to harvest oysters.

Ya the supply is technically there, but because almost no one can tap that supply, said supply may as well not exist at all.

If all our item farmers catch the DR then the limitless virtual supply of rare mats means nothing…

That is a terribly short sighted and nihilistic view. We are talking about a reduction of wealth within the entire community. Less wealth can be, “produced.” This will create shortages. It is not that one rare-ish item has become less obtainable, all rare items are less available. If it were just a few, then people could turn to less popular or more obscure items and make due. If everything of a certain power level or over is difficult to obtain then there are no adequate substitutes.

The less restricted people are in producing wealth, the greater the supply of goods. The greater the supply the lower the prices become. The lower the prices the easier it is for casual players to afford said goods.

By making it harder for producers. “item farmers,” to gather items to sell, scarcity and prices can only rise. The item farmer has to expend more time and more consumables for the same result. The item farmer must raise his prices, or quit item farming.

You and thirty other people who are online during your play schedual watch the market for any rare items or mats and you all click on the same item at the same time, but only one of you get that item. All the time more and more people get to your level and need the same items, but the items and mats are scarce, the supply is horribly low the demand only grows. It takes longer to try and buy the mats than to farm them because there are so many other buyers and the prices have risen so high. The best price becomes any price.

On the other hand. If supply is plentiful and the item farmers are able to gather unimpeded. You are, not, competing with the rest of the server in trying to buy rare mats, because many of them already got all they needed last week, or feel that they can get them tomorrow. The only people who are watching the market are those looking for the best deals. You are free to buy at the third best or fourth best price.

What about speculators buying up all the cheap mats? It is impossible for speculators to corner the market on easily obtained goods. They can start buy trying to corner the market… Until the item farmers tell their friends, “hey you can make a lot of gold farming X” Suddenly the supply of X has doubled and the speculator can’t possibly keep buying X or he will go broke. As it is he has to wait for prices to go back to normal or sell X at a loss. Speculators only get a strangle hold on the economy when goods are scarce.

So yah, Lowering the drop rate will only create an in game recession. Sure you can sell high, but everything you would buy is also gonna cost a bunch and it will take you much longer to find anything to sell because of the low drop rate. It would be hell on casual players, and would not help dedicated ones.

You do realize that all colors look different in dim light, which is where you would be able to see both the glow and the armor most easily at the same time. When you are in some caves or underwater your armor will be greenish but your glow will be unaffected. Some firelight will make your clothes orange-ish, night time can make them blue. just some thoughts.

I have been trying to match my humans skin tone with dye, wish I had remembered the skin color’s number when i had made her. Definitely true that armor drastically changes the color of the dye as well.

… the first glory points I ever earned were in holiday pvp events. What are you people talking about? I repeatedly participated in the allhowlin and the wintersday pvp events. It was during a snowball mayhem that I happened to look down at my exp bar and see that it was totally dark except for a little smidgen of purple at the far left. I noticed that it said glory instead of exp, and that the tiny sliver, six points, was the same color as the little purple cup icon I would get for getting most kills, or delivering the most presents. Since I had never participated in any form of pvp other than the allhowlin pumpkin patch, the glory that I had must have come from holiday events. Where else could those six glory points have come from?
After this discovery of glory, and reading up on it, I went to the mists and played a few free team matches and was surprised how much glory was awarded for third place, hundreds of glory points. I can well imagine an experienced pvper not being able to notice glory increases measuring in single digits.

I can see where form fitting (tight leather, spandex?) clothing would be appealing…

I think we all can agree that we have far to many " butt capes" and trench coats and that new outfits should either not have them at all, or get a hide check box, like shoulders and helms have.

It is odd that they would try to hide the posterior so obsessively…

There is plenty of skimpy clothing in the game, and a lot of cleavage. There are in fact a number of neat sets which provide a more practical look, except fail at the need for some gratuitous cleavage thrown in.

The OP is making the classic “we’re under attack”/victim argument. Sorry, but the societal norm is for skimpy/kittenty female clothing, and in games, armor. The skimpy/sexy/kittenty side is not some poor, oppressed minority. Revealing armor (ie any armor with at least some cleavage or thigh or belly showing) is the majority of armor.

Actually, at the time, I fancied that I was making a preemptive argument… I thought I might mimic the form of arguments used by those who often have opinions contrary to my own.

I always picture them crying, “Will someone please think of the children!” most frustrating when there are no children present. Urging people to give up their ability to express themselves in order to appease some greater good. they seem happy only when actual customization is limited to choosing colors only, and world filters are so restrictive that intelligent conversation becomes impossible.

I don’t want female humanoids to look like blocky robots, nuns, or bigfoot.
By all means let us continue to have large and interesting shaped cleavage windows, bare midriffs, and eye high skirts!

You seem to be talking only about female characters, which makes my knee-jerk response to your post one of irritation and NO.

Personally, if I complain/comment about female armor being too skimpy, it is almost always because the female armor is skimpy and the male armor is not. This is sexist and it bothers me, so I make my thoughts on the matter known. I am certainly no “prude”, and in fact often enjoy dressing my girls in pretty, sexy clothes, and I would kindly ask that people such as the OP consider the fact that it is not merely “prudes” that complain about skimpy female armor.

Give both genders equally skimpy/sexy gear, and I give this suggestion a thumbs up. Otherwise, I emphatically disagree.

I apologize if this came out too harshly — I just tend to be a bit defensive as this topic is often met with "yeah sexy ladies, we want skimpy gear! . . . what now, sexy dudes? eew lol no -posts picture of a buff guy in a skimpy pink unicorn outfit-" or some other such intelligently phrased variation. xD

Well… I do have have a muscular male elementalist languishing in a corner… It is true that his muscular build is going to waste… You would think that he could at least have a nice vest to show off his arms, but no, most of the cloth outfits cover him completely.
I take no offense, such drama is beneath me. I do sympathize with your sentiments. as well as with the char player. Much of the physical character development does seem to be wasted due to lack of viewable skin/fur/(cellulose?).
I picked female humanoids because I find them most interesting, and so I tend to notice when a game starts making them bland…

You do have good points; it would make sense for no one to complain about skimpy male clothing if none exists… I certainly wouldn’t mind males having bare midriffs, sleeveless vests, or “shirts,” that were merely a leather harness or a collar and bracers.
The same goes for the char. It just wasn’t a major concern for me… I am glad that people are making their preferences known however. And, well, I am going to be more glad when those preferences happen to align with my own.

I like my characters to be attractive. I like to put them in attractive clothing. I often feel that less is more…
Perhaps I am being premature; but several games, have had a very noisy groups of prudes. Being so vocal and outspoken they get attention, and as the level cap raised or new content was added, the female armor became more and more Concealing. I do not want that happening here!
The problem is many of us just play the game and simply ignore the opinions of people we disagree with. “They are crazy, who would listen to them?” If you don’t speak up, then all anet sees is a bunch of noisy prudes, who have no apparent opposition within the community…

Silence is often taken as a sign of agreement…

A simple post consisting of a quote and an, “I disagree.” is enough.

If you don’t like a trend then speak up and be counted. No need to elaborate or defend your position. No need to answer a call out by the opposition. Your preference is justified because it is your preference.

I don’t want female humanoids to look like blocky robots, nuns, or bigfoot.
By all means let us continue to have large and interesting shaped cleavage windows, bare midriffs, and eye high skirts! Especially in new content!

Minor runes: Krait vs Afflicted

Zebulous.2934

So I just recently realized that minor runes are waaaay better than the pebbles. I was looking through the condition boosting miner runes and saw that Minor rune Krait was functionally the same a Minor rune of the afflicted. One cost almost twice as much as the other and I couldn’t figure out why. They also seem to be the only two different minor runes that have the same stats. +11 condition damage +5% bleed duration.

The minor runes only have two abilities… I bought two of each, but now I wonder if I should have bought four of the cheaper one. After you unlock all of a runes abilities, do additional runes of the same name stack fully, or do extra copies just uselessly occupy slots on your equipment, without adding anything?

I didn’t see any tabs in the player interface to let me look at my total condition damage, I only saw the basic stats; toughness, power, precision, ect. Is there a command I can use to see my condition damage score?
