and politically highly incorrect. (#Asuracist)
“We [Asura] are the concentrated magnificence!”
So you want people to read guides and watch gameplay videos of the game they are playing? That’s like reading the Tomb Raider walktrough and then playing. I rather get a group that has, well, “fun” dying and trying. Or no raid at all.
After figuring out the general attitude in the HoT threads AND the attitude of people today (talking about the retail business in real life) I really enjoy it the way it is right now.
I also buy Gems and I think it’s nice to have at least some advantage over the people that farm gold (and thus not supporting the game, actually just leeching off of the gem buyers).
One Man Army
because I am alone most of the time and cause mad beef with several foes at once.
Because older people know how to squeeze as many informations into only 8 characters.
MS-DOS anyone?
Have you downloaded something with jDownloader that was called “Filename_of_File_Uploaded_to_Youtube_on_10_06_2016_Cat_Videos.mp4” or a similar long name? Fine. But if this file is in a directory of the same name, it will “break” Windows (or better: The file system) because you exceed the 256 character limit; the path is included. If you try to move that file you will receive random error messages which say nothing.
[…]engener, ele and mesmer are maybe the ’’hard’’ class.
So?
Currently I play Engineer and I feel that would be way too difficult.
Why?
Engi is fun but complicated (and I don’t really play it)
How?
I am just a regular player with mediocre skills. After so many games I figured out I can’t strive for the hardcore stuff (or the attitude that comes with it) so my aim is to get a balance of “fun/easy gameplay” and “result”, meaning that I want to play classes that are not too easy and not too hard to get damage that is not too low and not too OP.
I love Engineer.
Or long story short: I don’t see why this profession is considered to be difficult. Having all conditions up is like a minigame: Switching trough all the weapons we get on hand (well, at least up to 4 because of the skillbar lock during combat) is great fun gameplay and should reward the player who likes this. So if Engineer is considerd as “not so easy”, what is up with the other classes mentioned? Holding one button and win?
I thought I missed something first. As hardcore Asura fan I know all the moves my guy can do and last night I saw the facial expressions and wondered if he was doing that all the time before. Having an passively, almost annoyed look when scratching my head and showing the teeth as an “Pff…yeah…hmm…bored” is just funny. It’s high quality as usual and shows the great skeleton the characters have to offer.
The deleted message is in your inbox.
One strange thing with the PC these days is that mine will yell something like, ‘That will leave a mark!’ or ’That’s got to hurt!’ as if to taunt the NPCs she just hit, but it happens when they hit me! Is my character taunting herself now? I don’t remember this happening before.
There is also an Asuran line that has this “reversed view” sort of thing. I never understood what my long-eared guy meant with “(Have been) hit.. gotta make some notes” (or whatever, I play in German). Due to the wonky translation of German <→ English, it was always open if he means that “I have been hit” or the “enemy has been hit.” He just says “getroffen”. It turned out he meant he got hit. Weird. Why would I need to say that? There are plenty of “uff”, “ugh”, “uh!”, “ah!” to choose from^^
Some things not mentioned:
•No frame of reference for judging distance
I did mention it. That’s why I use my wrench underwater. The hitboxes underwater are somewhat either wide or just broken. When something’s spazzing out 5m away from me and I get hit I know I am in one of these huge hitboxes. When I fire a torpedo and I can’t even tell when it’s going to hit something there is something wrong. Over the surface everything is clearly visible and working well. And the hitboxes are really much closer.
Did they change the emotes quite recenly? I couldn’t find anything but this night I realized changes in the idle emotes which I really raved over and stood there 15 minutes to watch my Asura doing the old emotes with new facial features (I love the one scratching my head, because now I am also having a corresponding facial expression)
If not, I just didn’t notice for a while..
Weird, I really like it that aspect. Apparently I am the only one. Especially in huge fights it’s just a part of the ambience to hear characters yell and shout different stuff. The chance my Asura is talking is also way too low, some lines I haven’t heard since I started. For example, the unneccessarily cryptic Asuran way of saying “I am bleeding” was new for me until the last month.
This night I only heard some player a few meters next to me being downed because she yelled that she would need help over there. Of course, there is also a mini map, but I play by watching the main screen, so the acoustical clou was helpful and something that lacks in games like e.g. FF14, where everyone is silent, as if fighting about dear life is someting you do blindfolded..
Nice to have it as on option, but weird that I am the only one enjoying player chatter so far. That could mean in future games this is not implemented and that would be very, very lackluster in the audio department.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
I think the reason why there are so few hats is the (totally bumming) technical limitation of turning people bald. The hat is your hair and when you put it off, the hair is your hat.
Maybe the fact many players with massive hairstyles would never wear hats. I am lucky that my favourite hat IRL and in all games avialable, top hats (the ring maker’s hat), are acceptable on Asura, despite I lose my little sideburns.
But a Norn or Human female suddenly losing 30cm of her hair – nope. They wouldn’t wear any hat.
I don’t mind the creepy cabbage people. I usually tend to /shrug @ at them for no reason.
Water combat means water is accessible. In some games you can’t enter water because there is nothing in it, so they don’t have to map it properly out. The end effect: Invisible walls at shores and every place with water. And invisible walls are bad.
I really think the aquatic stuff in GW2 is cool. Diving into it and be attacked by various underwater foes is cool. Or seeing a Quaggan once in a while.
But I find underwater combat very confusing. Everything feels dizzy and trippy. When I fire my weapons on land I have a real impact. Visually, audio-wise and I know how to react. Underwater however, I feel like my torpedos (coming from a harpoon gun…) are simply vanishing. They travel slow and the only thing I can really notice is the damage numbers.
Believe it or not, but I have ONE weapon underwater: It’s my wrench. I whack fish all day long despite I have like 8 other skills I could use, but the wrench is the only “weapon” I know I am doing something to the enemy. Also, the attacks underwater seem to have vey huge hitboxes. In my 11 months here, I have so far never been drowning (downed state) underwater, so something’s wrong with ALL the combat, balance and stuff.
What would be nice is to have limited air (very slowly decreasing though), slower movement (at least the Asuran swim animation looks hilarious and 500% too fast), more animations like an actual diving emote and in general more bombastic fights. It is very underwhelming combat-wise but awesome to have this feature in the game.
The game’s graphic engine has many features I miss in other tripple-A MMORPG titles from other publishers. I totally hate the lighting which comes from top right. A L W A Y S.
But else I like there are nice water drops on-screen when coming out of the water, the weather and lighting effects in Metrica Province (which already LOOKS hot and sweltry) and the fact bushes and flowers are affected by projectiles and move accordingly.
But I really adore the ability to have flexible (Asura) ears. While walking or with the various emotes, they’re the first indicator of an Asura’s mood. Great “skeletons”. So while the engine looks a bit dusty (emphasis on “a bit” because it looks still great) at first, there are many nice details the competitors on the market don’t have to offer.
I manually sheath my weapons every time I get done with a fight. And every time I take fall damage. And when I’m running by an enemy I don’t intend to fight and get hit by a random attack. So pretty much any time I have my weapons drawn ankitten ot currently fighting.
Right, I totally forgot about my ‘weapon behaviour’. There were two buttons I really hoped I can find in the options, which is toggle run/walk and draw/stow weapons. The ALT button is really often in use. Especially when one of my turret is engaging something, I also draw the weapons and I want to put them away ASAP.
I first had that in FF14 when you could literally count down the seconds after the last attack and all people of an instance would stow their weapon(s) at the same time. It looked and sounded ridiculous.
As Engineer, my character is not supposed to be the “hurr durr look at my big weapon” sort of dude. He’s a gentleman Asura and only draws his weapon when you’re looking for mad beef with me.
Especially since smaller pistols are almost hidden/clipping right into my beloved Noble Armour set, it looks nice for an Engineer when he’s pulling out his weapons from his trench coat – and stow them back away when the opponent’s dead.
Another thing I realized is that I try watch enemies die in my “rear mirror” (I put in on the V button). Trying to predict if he/she/it will die from my attacks and condition damage and then watch my foe die while I walk away. Lately I fail by some HP and have to shoot he/she/it point-blanc…
I don’t see the point in players joining us if they don’t want to be there. I don’t see the point joining a guild if I at least don’t like 1 person in it.
I dunno what you expect, but to me it sounds like you want a prison to keep your members in, rather than a positive community of players playing together. Sounds like the worst guild to be in.
To the first paragraph: How can I know the people before joining?
The second part is wrong. To me it reads like he has problems that people just switch guilds like crazy (as in: represent the one that has currenlty the most shiny to offer). Consider with the current system, there are always FOUR guilds that are not represented. That system is stupid and makes no real sense to me. As if you have 5 girlfriends and you are with one for the evening because she makes good Lasagna. In the night you dance out with another one, and in the morning you switch to girlfriend #4. Do you think the other girlfriends would like this? Of course they want the guy for themselves. Instead of learning how to make Lasagna AND dance, they do not want to work that out. Why if they don’t have to?
If the system would require people to finally decide, the problem would not exist. People would leave by themselves instead of be pseudo-members. People would stay to build up things instead of enjoying the nice guild hall of guild #2, while playing with guys from guild #1 becaus guild #2 has only idiots (in the view of that particular player) in it. Guild #3 does nice dungeon runs, but has no guildhall etc. etc.
You are a small guild; he has a 250+ members one.
People will take the opportunity of cherry picking as long as it’s possible. And that’s what this thread is about. Not the guild leader is to blame, it’s the players that are allowed too much freedom (and I do not see the point in the multi-guild system).
(edited by Zedek.8932)
Haha, I like how all people say it’s the guild leader’s fault.
No, it’s not. Not necessarily at least.
The guild I am in was a place full with nice people. I mean, really, really cool people that gave me laugh rushes and the chat was full with yellow. Suddenly, it changed, like within 3 days. When I check the members page, there are quite an amount of people online, but I am the only one with a full, green icon in front of it. What are they doing at the other ones? I don’t know.
It’s the combination of the player’s attitude.
First, people appear to have no loyality. When there’s something more shiny, they will drop what they have right now like a hot potatoe. Instead of helping to build it up or to sort things out, they just jump off. That is a terrible, cowardly way of living, but the easier one.
Second, people do not really care.
When I was in charge of a guild in Final Fantasy 14, we had to deal with similiar things. There was just one “FC” (Free Company) you could join at a time and even had a 24-hour penalty when leaving one, but they really did not care. There were race-specific places, linkshells (chat channels) and guilds and despite they changed their race, they stayed in. When I removed them, they turned mad. They just do not care. It’s maybe the cultural attitude mentioned by SkyShroud. For me as German, I am as loyal as I can get. My guild is 100% silent for 2 weeks straight, and I will be the last one that turns off the light… Sadly, the other pseudo guild members are not there.
On the other hand for me as casual player and quite chat active: I wish I could find a guild that also wants a loyal members. I am tired of changing. I want my place and I want the people to know me, my attitude and stuff. Fluctuation/Turnover of members is ALWAYS bad. Might it be in a video game or at work. But eventually you will find the gold nuggets you are looking for. I hope I will find that nugged, too..
Requiring representation is a turn off for many. (…)
Also, if your guild is thriving, and you see people who are constantly not repping. Boot them kindly. Kick them from the guild, send them a mail saying something to the effect of (…) If they really want to be part of your guild, they’ll accept the invite.
You are contradicting yourself. People want to get the best they can get the most easy way. They literally give a d..mn about the work it might take. That’s like wondering why people would rather live off welfare and foodstamps rather than working themselves – and blame the social welfare office in the end that they require their clients to work for something.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
@Cyninja:
Exactly my thoughts.
@Blude:
It is. He even explained it (“many MMORPGs lack what this game has”) and with all the “earning reports speculation”, “HoT sucks”, “PvP is dead”, “ArenaNet made this game die” propaganda nonsense of mad and even ex players this “just-a-love-thread” feels actually kinda good. If you’re about to decide if this game is for you and you see the aforementioned threads, you won’t play. If you still try and see it’s good/better, why not stating it?
I always play only games that I really like and put a lot of immersion into them. Sometimes I just do things no player of video games would mind.
1a) I am a Asura(cist). Asura have priority #1 when someone’s downed nearby. I also greet people with “Excelsior” and use proper spelling and grammar (as much as I can due to the fact I am not a native tongue), often getting things to hear like: “OMG Don’t put apostrophes and periods at the end of a sentence”.
1b) Many people have several characters or “toons” as you call them, but there is only ONE Zedek(k). I have no alternative characters, in no game. I think it’s weird to have several characters that are so different from your main.
1c) Nobody minds to switch guilds like crazy. I do. Loyality is becoming more and more rare, and even nobody noticing, I usually stay at your side to the end.. like in my current guild which is almost dead.
2) I do not want to jump into water. Since I stepped into a deep puddle hidden by snow I know how bad it is to live with wet socks for hours. I couldn’t imagine to jump into water with my Noble Armor set. It must be heavy and cold. I try to avoid water whenever it’s possible, except it’s a huge part. I could justify this with preparation, e.g. “let’s help those Quaggan and prepare for that”. But randomly using a shortcut trough a river – nope. I look for a bridge.
3) I do not like to run. I think I only run when figthing or when I do not want to use waypoints. But else, it looks exhausting..^^
4) I only log off in a city and/or in a shelter. Logging out in the middle of field? Never. Going into a Norn tend, below a metal roof next to a Charr blacksmith or inside a tree. But normally, I log off in a lab in Metrica Province (because Rata Sum’s initial loading time would be too much). I’m Asuran, so I “live” next to the capitol. And let my Asura do his everyday’s life stuff when I am logged out. (Weird to type that out HAHA)
5) I turn off any music and turn off other sound sources (e.g. TV). I only have the ingame ambient sound, sound effects and dialogue on. Where is that music supposed to come from? It is there to modify the feelings you have (epic battle, mysterious music) etc. But sometimes the sound effects and drones are utterly creepy and hidden below music or lost by distraction due to TVs, radios and people nearby. As said, immersion.

I wonder what would be available eventually.
The GuildWars(2) universe is the first one that I really enjoy. I’ve been resistant to all hypes and franchises (except for Tomb Raider 2-5). Blizzard, Final Fantasy, StarWars, almost all GTAs,.. But seriously, this one’s great. Having something at home to display that “love” towards the game’s world/lore/art would just be great. I still hope there will be statues or print media.
I don’t think mugs and clothings are that cool.
There are two problems with way-too-simple looking clothes: It looks just plain bad.
If you check the merchandise of other games they basically put the most boring, basic artwork they have used in every way and at every occassion and slap it on a dark blue hoodie – for €60.
Mugs, well… When playing LoL, I simply uploaded one of the game files to a photo service and printed my own mugs and posters – way cheaper than any merchandise store. I asked how it is with copyright and they said as long as I do not sell it (I printed my favourite LoL character’s splash art in poster form direcly from the folders on my hard drive) it’s fine.
So you either have super duper high-resolution art or new, unreleased art for this to people buy this. It should be really something that you can’t do on your own like mugs, shirts or posters. Like statues or keychain hangers. A little, standard golem statue right next to my Thresh statue on my desk would be nice.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
Yep, even my tiny Asura transmorgifies into a giant, murder-minded, and most likely un-showered Charr in that fractal.
I mean, can you imagine what a charr shower would look like? Cleaning that fur out of the drain must be a nightmare. And then you turn too fast just that one time and stick your horn through the glass door, and then what?
Cat baths do seem like the more sensible option here.
I offered myself quite often to comb some Charrs fur, even when matted. The rest is their business.
Cassette.. HAHAHA!
I’d like to have an Artbook with not only developmental sketches. Or a printed version of the Wiki. Printed media in general. Or a small Golem statue.
So much blasphemy in this thread!!
But still, I think that is normal. As Hardcore Asura Fan™ I love to burn down Charr with my flamethrower as they always scream like the demonic beasts they are. Humans because the beanpoles are looking like torches while on fire. And dying Norns have this “David vs Goliath” feel to it. Seeing a wall of meat succumbing and dying in front of an Asura is really, really satisfying. Especially when it’s a nice mix of burn, bleed and poison. Sylvari, well, for some reason they appear to be kinda innocent. Killing them feels more like collateral damage.
I have to admit that the female Asura screams are also satisfying. Not that I want it to happen, but as long as I can’t join the Inquest and they keep bothering me while walking around the Metrica Province it’s okay to let them taste their own medicine.
On a side note I really think this is great in this game. To have a race or group you can favor for. I am tired of this “dat iz racism” way of thinking the designers/community are going lately. It is more like going for a soccer team or something and it’s also kinda fun.
My current desktop (I have no icons on it, all is getting sorted/downloaded in corresponding folders and “My Computer” and “Recycle Bin” are in the taskbar)
Says it all. Both the class and race. The reason what got me hooked to GW2 and I do not care about anything else. Asura would be still a reason to dive into this Franchise but being an Asura Engineer is probably one of the best things for my alternative ego. Love it. First time I see heavy, real-life weaponry next to an oldschool mage in an MMO and it just goes well together. Fun gameplay, the Noble Armor is beautiful and together with the top hat actually suits my real-life style.
It basically comes all together. Thanks ArenaNet for giving me a new MMORPG home after SquareEnix managed to turn me away and other Franchises lack good races/lore/feel.
EDIT: Gamma correction. On my PC it’s fine, on my tablet it was way too dark.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
LoL is not an MMORPG if you’re going to try to claim that is better.
As if that matters what genre that game is labelled as.
It is PvP, it uses a very similar (useless) system for rating players (and still that is giving you a rating that is 20% in your hands – in both ways. You get unjustified wins and losses.). Now try to put together people with the same bogus rating. It is basically
(Guess + Guess + Guess + Guess + Guess) / (player numbers) = Matchmaking
Add an impossible handycap for premades (if something like that even exist) and you get another factor that drives it away from any sort of “match” “making”.
Female Asura have already a few cute hairstyles; sometimes they are used on Asura with weird facial proportions. The males have 1.5 hairstyles, the other ones are bascially a variation of “bald”.
But we also need more Asura in general..
The air might be as warm as usual. Air conditioning also includes humidity.
Also, weren’t they pretty crafty already when still under the surface? As quickly as they established their new lives above the surface I don’t think they started to use a hammer the first day they left their subterannean homes. Maybe the even used magic, maybe draining the power also had an effect on the weather. But that is already way beyond my knowledge.
EDIT: Also, do we know where they have been living before? When it’s next to Rata Sum, it should be toleration to cooler temperatures.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
Why is that a joke? I am pretty sure the developers and mappers first step is to set up a world with general ideas and core features. It would not make sense to have a desert town with sudden glaciers around. Flora and fauna (Snow Wolves in the mountains etc) is also connected to it.
Wow! People are seriously bored here.
You are bored enough to read and even to post. I am not bored, neither are people who give constructive ideas (unlike you, whoseem to be the bored one) I like the ideas and ways of thinking. It’s called “immersion”, and in times of stupid and cheap app store games and facebook nonsense, I really like this and how people back it up.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
I also feel lonely once in a while. To test the population I often just ask in the map chat if there is any Charr that want his fur combed by me. Normally I get responses…^^
Yep, it really depends around the geographical situation, too. I think digging tunnels near an active vulcano is different than digging for salt in Siberia. But as already mentioned, Asura invented weather manipulators already, so it’s more like in a car: Permanent monitoring of temperature and when you get out of the car you’re running into a wall of heat (like driving from Germany over to Rimini, Italy. We went out of the coach and almost died from a heat stroke!^^).
When the energy level of my pretty capitol would collapse for whatever reason it’d probably take 1 hour to have the tropical humidity and temperatures spread all over the place. Checking the flora of the Metrica Province which looks like e.g. Thailand I’d guess that would be very close to that.
To me, Rata Sum also feels like it’s in a bubble or dome of certain sort. I haven’t checked for a longer time, maybe it even is.
As someone who lurks over to PvP… do you really want me to play 500 and more games to slowly get somewhere where I am supposed to be or did I just totally get that wrong?
Judging from your emphasis on the word “only” 500 games.
That’d be a bummer.
The temperatures in Rata Sum should be perfectly balanced and can changed at any time.
Back then, when I still attended the College of Dynamics, I worked on a Transatmospheric Converter. It is one of my best inventions as young Engineer in my vita. Was a great time under my mentor Blipp. However, that was years ago and the prototype was not as powerful as we wished and I ran out of funds, but it was still a great design and the plans and blueprints were stored in the libraries. Too bad the backups of the plans were lost or stolen and the patent archive in Desider Atum was set on fire by the Inquest.
Who knows if the Inquest just tried to make me think my plans were gone, maybe they were still stored and Grep, the clerk, just failed to find it. Or maybe one of the others at my college class picked up the idea. Changing the weather is a fascinating topic!
Apparently some other Asuran genius picked it up and developed it further with his or her krewe to not only control the weather but also the climate in a large scale.
The tropical temperatures in and around Rata Sum would unbearable when testing out my improved formula of the basic Charr napalm recipe for the flamethrower or under a gas mask and protective suit in the labs.

I turn the music off in ANY game except for DooM and DooM II because I love FM Synthesis. But else, I turn it down. Borderlands, the radio in GTA, FF14, GW2…
I use to sit often on a bench near a preserve area in my hometown and I enjoy the silence and only have natural sounds of nearby crickets and the wind moving the trees. There is no music. Why should be music in video games? It kills my immersion in that matter.
The first time I enjoyed the atmosphere in a video game was in Splinter Cell 3 in the Hokkaido level. At the sunset, having the frogs making sounds while the wind can be heard and a TV inside the building and reverbed footsteps from inside a concrete building of the NPC. From that time on I turned off the music in all games.
GW2 has also great ambient sound. The deep drones inside caves and the well-known sounds in the corresponding areas give a lot of immersion. I think there should be more effects, too. As in: More layers. But else, I don’t even know how the music in this game sounds, except for that tree level of the plant people – it simply starts playing when coming close and stops when getting a distance.
I don’t like it at all. I also see the racial skills are all kinda weak and “cool but useless”.
But my “Technobabble” coming from the mouth of a Silvary does not make sense, the same with prayers since we do not believe in a god (but “everything is a part of a big machine” though. Yo.).
Then to tweak certain skills would be nice. The Power Suit is kinda cool to play around with, but the cooldowns and the time limit are ridiculous compared to the general use. I could come up with several problems to fix that, but nobody cares. So I rather stay with my grenade launcher (aka Mortar)..
EDIT: Fixed mistakes due to brainlag.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
Cats and their limited brains.. Pff…
I appreciate the introduction of the best profession in Tyria, but the feline way of handling problems is .. just .. not Asura-compatible.
Please stay where you are and leave us Europeans alone.
It has a reason why it’s (supposedly) better here.
Thanks.
I’ve been seeing some rangers camped on a mob spawn letting their pet kill enemies for them, is this considered a form of botting? I know the players are AFK cause they have been there for a couple of hours.
This is allowed behavior; as it was designed to function that way.
This is an older post about afk rangers letting their pets kill stuff while they afk in a spot and the Game Support Lead said it was okay (although I’ve seen this type of discussion about Necro minions and Engi Turrets)
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Ranger-Pet-Botting/first
My turrets explode after a while. Great Charr blueprints, eh? I took a bunch of screenshot and when I came back they simply fell apart after a couple of minutes, so at least the turret AFKing got fixed.
I think the filter and the moderators in general have a weird schizophrenic attitude towards this matter. My post have been removed for containing “smart…bum”. You know. That was reportable. But when people have 5 kittens in a post, that appears to be fine.
I’ve emailed the support why a “kitten you”, “kittening horse kitten” and stuff like that is fine, but “smart bum” or actually ANY NON-FILTERED WORD is bad? No answer as of today. Normally they copy and paste the rule with support responses, but apparently they don’t know either.
Don’t they realize the poster had bad, even worse in mind when writing “kitten you and this kittening kitten game”. How can “you are a smart bum” be worse than this? Because auto-kitten anything is fine? Should I post every swear in kitten language before on purpose?
That baffled me. If you’re lucky, your stuff gets auto-kittened. Moderators do not mind. No matter what the intent of that poster was. If it’s NOT auto-kittened, hell breaks loose.. Some more objectivity please.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
I am already very satisfied with the classes in this game. When I look what nonsense and pseudo-cool Naruto-fanboy classes and jobs the competitors of GW2 have and when I check what we got I would say we’re good in that matter.
Or do you want to see “Ninjas” or “Pirates”? I am sure ArenaNet was clever enough to pull a brainstorming and a flipchart and write down their ideas. When you put it up in a circle, you want to have all classes that are great to have in the game on each side and the opposite (gameplay-wise) of each on the other side respectively.
E.g. Warrior type (strong, tanky) <- → Elementarist (fragile but powerful magic) or Ranger (bow and arrow, connected to nature and earth with living beings as helpers) <- → Engineer (firearms and destructive weapons and machines, cold and made from steel)
If can’t think of anything that would be missing here – that also makes sense and that would we really need to fill a gap.
(edited by Zedek.8932)
No, it happens to me also. And I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong. It happens several times a day, then I am fine for days straight. Just like Dante said, I also suddenly have yellow warthog or even allied NPCs as target while I fire my auto-attack bullets into trees or hit a bunch of unrelated creatures with the flamethrower just because I changed the target. I often do not realize that because the raw direction is right and when there’s going on much on the screen, I will hit a foe anyways, but not the foe I want to target.
Similar things happen to the auto-attack getting stuck. Stopping to fire when he is next to or behind me is okay, but when I get my target in front of me, the auto-attack icon still flashes but I won’t shoot.
A third error in this matter is – and I can’t believe that! – the same as in FF14: Tab chooses random things on the screen, often the furthest, but most likely anything but that dude or dudette that stabs you in melee combat..
Nobody said close competitive matches are bad. Unranked doesn’t offer competitive matches though, you could be teamed with ESL players or total newbs because of the way the matchmaking system works.
For some people it’s like fighting 4 NPCs and 1 player while having 4 NPCs yourself. That’s not fun or competitive. The quality of team mates and enemies vary far too greatly to be of any fun.
Season 2 ranked had its own share of problems but so does unranked.
I agree that SOME matches are bad in unranked but as you can see from my screen shot you also get some matches that are VERY close. And personally I find way more close and competitive matches in unranked than in the current ranked. That’s why I probably won’t ever play ranked again. But I sure can’t wait until they put ranked back so people can finally stop begging for it, and so I can remove my pvp tag thing it’s really annoying me and doesn’t match my outfits at all.
i dont think you understand. I have matches where I can easily win 1v2’s while my team loses 2v1’s to the same players. Literally if you got the average skill of the other 4 on my team, put that skilled player as a 5th instead of me, my team would get 500-0’d undoubtedly. Instead we win 500-400 because I can farm the extremely horrible players on the other team while my team loses fights.
Just because it’s clsoe doesn’t make it even close to fun. They don’t even understand what to do when you TELL them what to do. Like it’s actually so frustrating it kittenes me off. I’ve only done less than 10 unranked qs since offseason started but its by far the most annoying thing I’ve had to do in a while. I don’t mind being blown out 500-100 if it means I’m vs pro league players with at least tier 3 players on my team.
Had to quote it in full because all is so true. The exact same thing happens in League of Legends and reading your post was balm for my soul. Today I won games because I could farm 3 enemies at once, my 4 (!) other guys lose against two. We won closely, but it felt like I had 5% less kittenedness on my side and thus winning. They do not speak English at all, like they are bots and keep continuing their awful gameplay or whatever that might be called.. But was this fun? No. I score a double kill, enemy scores a double kill. Actually, it was like (1vs4) vs (1vs4).
I wish you wouldn’t have said that because now I put back my plans to try PvP in this game yet again. It’s like wanting to buy a house but you know there’s mold and rats. If they fix that, I will gladly try this feature of GW2..

PayPal payments are 100% instant. No matter if I buy gems or the game (HoT) itself.
If female Asura had earrings, it would make them stand out amongst their male counterparts.
It is said female Asura have a “different ear structure” but I can’t figure out the difference. So yeah, earrings in those long, floppy ears would be cute!
I was thinking of an ingame console (command line) for some reason. Dumb me.
I hope it stays on PC. Coming from FF14, it was terrible. NPCs had to be moved on some things had to be changed to keep the performance up. Or in short: Consoles sucked so bad they literally had to place NPCs in a different location to keep acceptable framerates on the PS3. Also, the chat is usually dead, because nobody want to plug in a keyboard (“else they would’ve bought a PC/play at the PC”). In FF14 it worked somewhat, mostly because that game is slow and awkward when it comes to combat. You wait 2.5 seconds for a black mage skill, yes, meanwhile you can turn your tank, pardon, your player character around and stuff, but switching trough different layers of skillbars just because of limited buttons was kinda hard. I tried it myself. GW2 is much better when it comes to combat. I need my mouse to move the camera fast and to aim my grenades. Analog stick madness – no thanks.

As Asura Engineer I do not really feel like “powerful”, but that’s what I kinda like. This “hurr durr, I have a big sword” nonsense is lame. I like to have (several) aces up in my sleeve without showing. Wearing the noble armor, dual-pistols and a top-hat, being like 1.00m “tall” and have no faceroll ability does instakill with a huge number does not make me feel powerful. It’s more like, uh, being ambidextrous. Seeing someone bleeding/burning to death by me is not quite powerful but I enjoy this way of fighting more.
Yet, standing on a ledge, seeing two or more people/mobs in a fight, shooting down a poison gas mortal shell and finish them off by grilling ’em to death with the flamethrower feels very good though, because … I love my class.
The best example is the Kim Jong-Un rocket (tool belt skill of the rocket turret). It is huge, it launches like a nice firework rocket, it travelles ballistically in an angle that is just hilarious and then you get a 0.1 second explosion and a sound as if you hit a plastic dumpster with a stick. THAT makes me feel totally NOT powerful^^
EDIT: Holy moly, “2 years ago”

Thoughts?
I always buy the biggest package available if I like someting. In times where people want everything for free and complain about grocery prices yet own and operate cellphones (if you have a computer to play GW2 on and a cellphone, I bet you basically pay twice. That is monthly cost that could be avoidable) and expensive gadgets I enjoy to get a premium state for a comparably small price. Nobody would cry at let’s say Apple for not handing out free iPhones, because we know they never do. Arena-Net hands out a endless trial and people complain why they don’t get the full thing. “Give him an inch and he will take a mile.”
Fair enough, I “had to” buy HoT when I clicked on “Buy GW2 today” I got re-directed. But else, I think this sort of topic is always semi-whiny.
People say they do not want to spend money. Yeah.. You made your decisions.
People say they can not spend money. Then you can still buy it later or work for it, but the undertone of these people was like “This game sucks because I can not afford it”. Guess what, I neither could as kid. But I accepted it.
I think it’s justified. It’s their house, their rules. And I rather have all people to pay rent so the entire house can be maintained nicely. Else this game would go down. Just like Pruitt Igoe did..
Scrapper in S2 was the shining example of a class having no downsides; great players could 1v2 all day long, which should have never been the case.
I do not mind the changes, because if so, I’d pull the plug from any online game. I rather (try to) adapt.
But still I want to point out the bolded part. Isn’t this the point of being a “great player”? Isn’t it wrong all the FOTM (and let’s be honest, I really only see friggin mages and reapers hopping around. Barely any warrior or fellow engineers) are bascially winning despite being bad/comparable bad? If “great players” are good, then they know how to utilize their tools properly. If this is a reason to be nerfed, what are your suggestions at sports, e.g. soccer?
“Hey, Player X is so great, he handles 2 guys”
“Fine, so let’s just put 2 guys of his team on the penalty bench because he is so good to make things even”
???
To me ArenaNet really is bouncing from extreme to extreme. I know this feeling under the shower, because I have no mixing faucet there, only a warm and cold one. Each time I open the cold water, I take away warm water, because the hose’s rate of flow is limited. So it’s 80% cold. No matter how much I open up the warm water faucet, the water of the shower will stay cold. When I turn down the cold watever however, we have a double effect: There is less cold water but now also more warm water (because the cold water does not hog the hose to the shower head anymore), and I burn my butt (-30% cold water, +30% warm water = 60% difference despite I just turned down the cold water by 30%).
So in order to have a balanced water temperature I should not just open or close one faucet, but carefully adjust both together to avoid any spikes of temperature extremes in any direction..
This ping-pong effect is currently going on here as far as I understood.
(Another analogy from the Simpsons how to balance the salinity of the water: https://youtu.be/fQVAyJFQiyM?t=35s sorry, German only but that’s how balance should work)^^
