Long story short – welcome to gw2’s worst profession.

They buffed our power (new signet trait), but butchered furious food which for necro was a bit of needed “ompf”

Generally the upgrades to necro seem to be sustain, not damage focused. So our self sustain is up, ability to ress is up…damage? Not so much…

I’m still livid over taking away our shroud cooldown. Core necro is shafted like no tommorow with 1 stack of stab every 10s with foot in the grave. It was already bad as it was already..

It’s not like it’s cause i learn about spvp legendary armor the day it closes, but out of pure love for trading lives of my victims for ascended shards of glory i feel like asking the above question.

Not to mention in raids one wipe and pug ragequits, in spvp they die once, and seconds later come back for more! This spvp legendary armor bussiness is win-win!

Same reason soul beast doesn’t have pets. Because there has always been a small but vocal section of the necro community whining for the removal of shroud.

With Scourge coming, those people can stuff it now, and the future elites will go back to shroud.

But soul beast has his pet – he can merge with it but at any time they can defuse and you got your pet back into classic ranger mode…

1. You get to span boons! Erm..well one boon if we’re talking serious spam. But it’s might, yay! Not like anyone before you did that…only better (“there is no warr, there is no warr, there is no warr!”)

2. More boon corrupts and condi cleanses! Cause we all know that’s cornerstone of a raid support, not let’s say…damage buffs and strong heals!

3. kittenty sPvP – even less sustain, but more focus from enemy – no scourge = no barrier and no boon corrupts+condi cleanses, plus he’s easier to kill then ever!

4. Raids – you’re not welcomed! So far all wings are getting cleared just fine without any barriers. Not a lot of boons on bosses to corrupt either and condi cleansing gets handled just fine by current healers. No reason to take scourge whatsoever when druid fills all the bills for raid healer. Condi damage? Just about everyone and their dog has a good condi build for raid dps…well, save rev, but let’s not speak ill of the dead…

5. New type of utility – punishments! Nice one a-net, now we 100% won’t get any cool rune interactions. Reaper had shouts – that had interactions. Chronomancer got wells, which introduced necro to so badly needed quickness (rune of the chronomancer) for some super fun builds. Not this time suckers!

6. Zero unique buffs/functionality save barrier. Guess who can do your job only better? Hint: a lot of ppl. Unless they need barrier badly. So, seen anyone today who needed barrier badly?

7. No combo play. Remember reaper’s ice field, whirl & leap finishers? Forget that on scourge. You get drumroll one dark combo field. Yay!

8. You get to own hordes of enemies with cripple! The most fearsome condition of all will accompany you on just about any skillcast, fear the cripple!

Give him following trait:

“Might of the dying” – barrier you apply to your allies increaes their damage. This effect grows stronger the less percent health they have remaining. When barrier is removed so is the effect.

Affected ally hp 100%-50% – 10% damage boost
Affected ally hp 50%-25% – 17% damage boost
Affected allly hp < 25% – 25% damage boost

If you play it safe and stack barrier on healthy allies you get a little damage boost. If your team takes a risk entrusting their survival to scourge, they get a massive damage boost.

You hear that? Neither do I!

Scourge and raids...any thoughts/hopes?

Oh, quite closer then you think. I did my math back in the day. You may think “hurr durr, druid buffs OP” but you forgot one critical issue – these buffs are only as strong as those receving them.

And outta 5 man group with our druid in it, two have abysmal damage – druid himself and chronobunker. Chrono dishes out …well around 10k dps is already overstatement but let’s make it 10. Magi druid probs even lower then that, but again i’ll be generous – 10k for him too.

then we have PS warr who should deal around 28k and two dpsers, let’s give them 35k on average (ele will do more vs huge targets, but less vs small, other guys hover around that mark).

So we have 10k(chrono) + 10k(druid) + 28k (PS warr) + 35k (1st dps) + 35k (2nd dps).
Total 118k dps.

With his buffs giving party +20% damage (and that’s a generous, over the top assumption there) it goes up to 141.6k dps for his group.

Now let’s remove druid and add scourge.
No % bonus damage for party, but druid’s 10k gets replaced with scourge’s 30k condi.
138k dps.

Quite close IF scourge meets the 30k mark. And again we’re talking very generous buff assumptions for druid, since frost spirit should not affect condies, and GotL isn’t that easy to maintain all the time, all 5 stacks.

It’s far more phychological matter (I do more damage!) then real value (total party dps) that pushes druid to the fore.
But if it’s psychology we’re moving to, i wonder how many druids will still be willing to raid, given soul beast is coming and maybe they’ll finally want to move outta healer slot and be the hero themselves instead of playing the woman…erm i mean support.

IF scourge:

1. has strong condi dps (30k+)
2. does work with shroud traits (transfusion, heal on shroud enter/leave)
3. doesn’t have huge life force burn issues

Then he can replace the druid. Druid buffs replaced with high personal damage. Not a bad trade off given druid himself has abysmal damage, so if ppl around him do die, the dps plummets. While scourge can keep the ball rolling, being one of main dps sources himself.

If above is not the case, he better have something kitten alluring and unique for his group.

You call these “massive”? I’d barely call this “cosmetic”.
As LoL player i can easily point out today why gw2 pvp sucks.

1. No clarity – in LoL i can clearly see which champ does what. GW2? 5v5 clusterkitten.

2. No counterplay. You get zero information about enemy and ally builds until you’re already in 5v5 rumble, and that’s not the best place to study your opponent.

3. No defensive stats. Just take a look at “tanks”. They are all based on their skills not stats. Chronomancers, Dragonhunters, Tempests. Need i say what happens to one class that actually does uses stats for defense? (necro).

4. No balance. How often do we get balance passes? Once every 3 moths? That’s so bad it’s not even funny. And are classes balanced? Hell no. Don’t even get me started on “core spec vs elite” balancing.

5. It’s all too random!!
Teamates – random!
Build they have? Who knows!
Professions you get in your team – random (and duplicates allowed!)
What roles does each player play – who knows!

And i’m supposed to “learn” this kitten and get good with all that randomness. Yeah you do it, i’m not wasting my brainpower for this clusterkitten.

Scourge can get warr spot i think. Banners affect 10ppl so 1 warr can cover the raid need. Scourge in 2nd group can provide mights and barrier. Big question is how the dps will look like.

Condi DPS around 30k with mights and barrier would give scourge fighting chance to get into raids.

Sarrs – actually you seem to be right, scourge can be pretty strong as a healer i missed the barrier and 2 might stacks traits on his #1 shade skill…

That’s a relief, this spec is starting to look a lot better to me now.
One thing that bothers me….will it interact with soul reaping or blood magic (like transfusion, the heal on leaving shroud trait and generall on-shroud traits from core necro).

Cause i happen to be one of these off-meta kittens that like to do their own building and experimenting without having to run to mystic toilet for every minor stat change.

Please correct me if i’m wrong here, please.

We basically get tons of ways to convert condies to boons and boons to condies…which in raids means jack, cause unique boss boons and condies.
We get tons of torment which is shafted vs raid bosses that are held stationary by the tank. No one’s gonna start kiting boss and change a boss run into merry go around so you can get your torment damage off.
We get burning, but i can see a-net’s doing it’s best to keep it tame – low stacks, internal cooldowns, low durations.
We get barrier which is ….yeah well..what? I don’t think it’s gonna replace a healer, guess bonus utility that actually works in raids…might be nice.
We got mights on elite…with 300 radius….PS warr ain’t losing his spot anytime soon.

And on top of that they wanna gut perfectly good reaper from condi damage, cause kitten good spec that actually let necro be played the way you wanted (tank/condi/power), let’s bucher it, can’t make scourge look bad!

I am not a happy necromancer.

What worries me is that this xpac does not require HoT ergo it may not feature gliding.
I never cared much for mounts save maybe moas for asuras.

But in no way can you compare that to HoT glider awesomeness. I hope gliding is a thing in Path of Fire. And by that i mean updrafts and gliding puzzles, not just “you can use them” as in core Tyria maps.

I didn’t find it “fine” – loose ends (Braham), missing characters (Rox, Rytlock), completely butchering GW1 lore (encounter with real Lazarus) etc.

Not that it bothers me so much, as i play GW2 for gameplay, much less story (there are much better story delivering mmos out there).

But i am worried that HoT masteries will have no place in this xpac. No glider sucks:/

Ok as a guy that loves HoT (as in gameplay wise, launch policies were a subject to my heated criticism), I’m hyped bigtime for path of fire and extremely pleased to see that launch is far better and smoother then HoT. No content draught, great price, and chance to try it out.

But the announcement left me with many questiosn I wish answered by someone from a-net. Mostly on HoT vs Path of Fire.

Here we go:

1. Will we get more masteries then just mount ones?
2. Will gliders still get some love?
3. Adventures? Will we get them in PoF?
4. How is verticality doing? Will fans of HoT core maps get at least some places that are highly vertical?
5. Will HoT be required to play PoF?

Basically HoT introduced the “feature not content rich” approach which in the end worked for me.
Adventures, collections, tons of hidden places, masteries to navigate maps, verticality, raids.

So seeing as PoF is to the “content rich” one, will it still be feature-rich and have stuff to keep us busy for a long time with all sorts of scavenger hunts, mini games and collections to do?

I got beef with it’s aura that cannot be turned off. I don’t like pink, i don’t want planets orbiting my head, i just want it’s practical aspect – stat switching on the fly. But seems that’s a no go, and it really discourages me from attempting to make it.

I would consider making one if i had option to shut it’s visuals off, for that there are legendary weapons and armors …and backpacks.

I recently had a death in the family and thought I’d play some GW2 to take my mind off things. Didn’t get further than the second “beam puzzle” in the first White Mantle episode. Got the three beams in a row MULTIPLE times, couldn’t get the thing to unlock. At that point I was ready to punch my screen.

Agreed on how they botched Lazarus. An extremely important story character from gw1, teased and foreshadowed a lot in LS3, and then we finally summon the real thing only to go.

After all that you-know-what-teasing with fake lazarus, the whole mursaat themed raid wing, not to mention Ember Bay mursaat ruins….

I love that gliding got some love on this map (Dwayna zone), really sweet, and generally like the visuals. Keep it vertical and maze’y guys

I have two gripes with the story part


Lazarus. I didn’t play Gw1, but i know he’s a major character. Here it’s reduced to simple “Hi, die!”.

I wanted to hear his story, see his plans, or even get a choice to join his side. Nope. Hi. die.

Second gripe is with joining Shining blade. My character is a human so all’s fine and dandy. But i hear other races get to join too, which is awkward to say they least. Why would asura or Charr of all things take a blood oath to secret human political organization? It makes 0 sense.

I would like to have some choices in the story, rather then “assist grumpy whats-her-face vs enemy for whom i feel more sympathy for” then on to the x-pac!

I still up to this day remember (and sometimes play) the awesome video trailer for HoT (the one with rytlock jungle, gliders, tarir and what not). The feeling of adventure was there and kitten do i love HoT maps.

I know it’s not the most important thing under the sun, but i hope for something awesome this time around as well.
Just sayin’ since i know the current direction of gw2 is opposite to HoT one (nearly 0 hype). I hope we’ll get some at 1st august.

My main point here is that core necro loses a huge defensive skill (along with stab for stomps/resses), while the only thing reminescent of defensive (20% damage and condi reduction) is given to reaper, not core necro.

They took away a key skill (least for spvp and WvW) from a core necro giving nothing of similar functionality or role in return.

So the thing that was our biggest panic button for “I’m gettin bursted” situations as a core necro got changed to a well that’s not a well. Well, all’s well that ends at the bottom of one.

I care little for how “awesome” new elite may be offense wise, i care that our only deffensive elite option got removed. Plague was not perfect but it did one thing right – help us hold a capture point and survive a burst.
What was needed for it to be more interactive for the player and with viable options against moa transform and condi overload.

Now the “class of atriouciousness….erm pardon…attrition” is supposed to run from almost every possible engagement it seems….clap, clap, clap

Heal through shoud in general is a (badly working) crutch for necros mobility issues. Even Blighter’s Boon on a power build is super situational. How many shroud autos do you land on a thief or mesmer?

Doesn’t matter. It’ll heal anyway. It’s executing the shroud #1 that triggers the heal, hitting is irrelevant in this case.

Today in raid 2 ppl in my squad keep crashing every time we start Combat with KC
1)i was the only one with legendary armor (Tempest)
2)0
3)War and Dh was crashing other ppl was fine
4) combat KC
5) N/A
6) Windowed full screen
7) Windows 10
8) 64 Bit.

After Taking off My legendary armor no one crash ..

Just to be certain, could you repeat that test with legendary armor transmuted to any non-legendary skin?

In my case it’s complete pc freeze with having to hard-reboot it.
That behaviour is no stranger to me, earlier that too used to be the case (Dell L502x).
Back then (and to this day) it is fixed by underclocking the graphics chip from 1300+ shader clock to 999.

However since y-day the crash is back despite the underclocking. Now i could be just my machine, but today i deliberately went into home instance (no other player = 0 chances of legendary armor on my map) and stayed there for around 1h – 1h 30 mins. No issues whatsoever.

For comparison y-day i do one pvp match, goes fine, then in the next one i got pc forced shutdown (probs cpu or graphics overheating) the moment the match actually starts (not the 1 min to prepare or whatnot, but when coundown to actual game starts).

Maybe it’s this armor causing some super – intense calculations that for some cause crashes, while for my irky machine total shutdowns. Else i don’t see why would it run just fine today, as long as i was in private map.

As for ventari and thieves – it’s no suprise. Nothing can outheal their burst, that’s not how you counter a thief. Their burst is killed by damage mitigation, starting with weakness and protection. Then on top of that comes healing.

Another thing is that ventari is a sustained healer with strong focus on effective healing of others, but not oneself. Just check how much “outgoing healing effectiveness” he has in his traits. That means them, not you. Everyone else gets crazy heals, you yourself don’t.

It might possible for guard if he builds boon durr and with the 30% of the rev to be enough to compliment mesmer with timewarp to ukeep quickness to 10 ppl but nly if you buffed the quickness that elite gives. And that by alot. It will also not replace druid.

Guard can get almost 100% boon duration with extremely little investment, and rev can really help that quickness persist (up to 14s given it’s 5s base). However the cooldown is an issue – shortening it requires honor line which is the 0 damage line, making guard weaker offense wise.

So to make it happen withough a major hit to damage you’d indeed need longer base duration or shorter cooldown on the elite.

It’s Heart of the Mists. Why. WHY.
Why when i come back to a match, precious time and memory is wasted on Hearts of the Mists instead of loading the pvp map i was on before the dc (given the game is still on)?!

[Rev improvement] Legendary Aspect

1. healing skills most definitely.

It’ll give you better shot at burst healing, but at expense of burning both heals and being that much longer without any healing skill at all.

Also yes for elites. With legendary aspects it is possible to attempt double cast of same elite (cast it with an aspect, swap legend -> 50 energy restored, cast original), or reverse of that.

With that in mind, three of them still get an easy pass:
Glint has very long cooldown. No way to abuse it.
Mallyx’s isn’t that strong, and it’s traits have their own internal cooldown to prevent abuse.
Ventari’s is a heal, and also has a proper energy cost. Also you’re allowed to spam it in his stance and no harm happens because of it.

The two top offenders are Jade Winds (especially) and Rite of the Great Dwarf.
Jade Winds however have an internal cooldown of 5s (with 3s stun duration). Maybe it should be upped a bit for spvp, since alacrity could push it dangerously close to 3s.

As for Right of the Great Dwarf – well this one is hardest to balance because it’s balancing mechanic is in the energy cost and stacking. It’s does not stack at all, so casting it prematurely after first cast is just a waste of time and (literally) energy.
But then again recently the lowered it’s cost in spvp to 40, and if you wait 5s for next cast you’ll recharge 25…i think A-net wants us to use it more then once in succession. Maybe it would make the lackluster Jalis more saught after?

I feel Rite is the hardest elite to balance but also that it’s A-net that should decide if they want it balanced at all, or want more rock & roll dwarven action.

2. Yeah, no reason not to.

The “on heal” and “on elite” runes already have their own balancing mechanic in form of internal cooldown. Also it would be nice to see that icd actually used to it’s best ability without being forced to a specific main legend (equip ventari’s healing skill as aspect and stop worrying about your Jalis heal activating the rune of herald only once every 30s)

3. about tablet moving when using ventari’s aspect skill.
One skill that worries me is the condi cleanse one – it’s instant and does not persist. Meaning you’d be casting it first, then watch as your already “used” tablet travels to where it’s needed.

I think it would be wise to have this skill activate once the tablet has arrived at it’s destination.

Rest of Ventari kit should work same as in his stance – skill starts charging/activates the second you give out the command , while tablet starts it’s travel to destination spot.

About traits, you’re right totally forgot part that you don’t equip them all. It should be available to all legends by default, just though of traits as the “not too early” mechanic, but it would indeed hinder build diversity.

As for rest of balancing, rev already has build-in tools for it – cooldowns and energy costs. What sounds op on paper quicky falls flat on it’s face once the energy bar sends a reminder about not stretching forever.

If all of this is too complex, one can always put initial cooldown on aspect itself – for example – make it available 2-3s after legend swap, or have it carry 50% extra costs if used within this time. I’ll let a-net get creative here.

Play Conditioning vs Theme

A good necro always uses conditions. I got a spvp power build running paladin’s amulet (power, precision, toughness, vitality) that is possible because of conditions and corrupts. I use them simply as way to weaken my foes rather then doing DoT with them.

But a good necro, be it power, healing, condi or w/e always carries his conditions with him and ability to manipulate them. That’s one thing that is certainly not lost to necro design.

Also the attrition is true with chilling specs – survive their burst (that’s the hard part) while chilling them. With their cooldowns gone to oblivion and your healthpool/shroud replenishing while other takes the pain you can now move in for the kill.

reason core condi necro is in dire straights is hands down it’s sustain. Power necro gets tons of sustain easy, condi necro has to take all the lines and traits that aren’t sustainy and as result we get a necro that takes ages to put his condies on, while moments to be swat like a fly (talking core necro here).

A buff to core necro’s condi play is in order, and most of all deathshroud buff as that’s the first place where core necro can get a buff, that won’t made reaper fly into batshit crazy OP zone.

If they up guardian’s elite shout (quickness + fury) to affect 10 ppl instead of 5 (much like mesmer elite) then you could replace druid + chrono with rev + guard combo.

Rev healer or healer+tank with guard tank or dps (if rev does both). I believe the party – wide dps wouldn’t stray far from current meta as while guard would defo bring more dps then a chrono, the rev wouldn’t be giving any party wide damage buffs like the druid (save alacrity), and probs have not so hot damage himself..

Legendary aspect – an ability to use one skill of inactive legend (under f3 button).

Why:
Legends are too well defined. Each practically hogs a given role (healing, tanking, boon spam etc), and totally takes that away from you when you swap it out. Traits and weapons offer some substitute, but often it’s far from enough to warrant a stressless legend swap and with it a full, versatile revenant build and gameplay experience.

How it’s done

A player is allowed to choose one skill from each of his 2 equipped legends to be available when that legend is inactive. That skill then gets assigned to F3 button and is available when he’s using the other legend.

Example:

Our rev chose Ventari/Jalis build.
He then assigns Jalis’ Forced Engagement as his legendary aspect from Jalis.
Now when in Ventari stance he can still use above skill for some extra cc and sustain.

From Ventari he chose Ventari’s Will/Project Tranquility. When in Legendary Dwarf Stance he can summon Ventari’s tablet and heal his allies and himself as it passes through them triggering on heal effects (as he chose healing skill to be slotted in Ventari’s aspect).

Balance

Basically not a big issue here if you ask me – rev’s cooldown and costs are already handling that part. Skill you use as legendary aspect is the same one you have on your inactive legend. It’ll consume it’s share of energy and go on it’s cooldown which will remain in effect as you swap legends.

Only two things that come to mind outside of that are:
1. Small bump to Jade Winds cooldown in pvp only, to prevent double cast with aspect->swap legend to shiro -> jade winds.

2. Changing Demonic defiance to work only when in Legendary Demon Stance.

How to implement it

Unlock each legend’s aspect as you finish it’s training in training panel. Simple!

Ventari’s aspects special changes

As ventari is about spawning, moving and managing your tablet, his aspect skills should include the following:

1. No matter which skill is chosen for Ventari’s aspect, all of them would spawn a tablet (if not already present) and be ground targeted, moving tablet to the selected location.

2. Unless “Ventari’s will” was slotted, the act of moving tablet would be that and nothing more. No on heal effect triggers, no project tranquility, no healing as it passes through allies. The traited regen stays, as it’s not related to the skill but the tablet itself.

3. Puryfying essense (the insta condi-cleanse) would be activated after tablet reaches it’s goal. Else we risk cleansing in the tablet’s old position (which is bad in most cases) and watch it boldly arrive at the scene to…do nothing since it already used up the skill.

4. All else would be activated the moment you press your button and take effect as it normally does (so instant for protective solace, while after one second or so for Energy Expulsion and Natural Harmony).

Well GotL can be countered by proper design of other healers, for example:

Guardian healer – let it have high personal dps along healing. Guard is power class by default, so for example trait that grants ferocity scaling off healing with high coefficient.

Ele healer – water fields are ele’s specialty and i hear heals off these are decided by the field caster, not the blast finisher user. So if we were to give ele a trait that ups on his water field power we could have him spend less times in water and more in other attunements.

Rev healer – rev healer is begging to have legends interact with eachother more rather then complete on/off button under F1. The class is supposed to adjust to situation by swapping legends (along weapon swaps), but healer rev is the complete opposite of that – you don’t just leave Ventari for 10s, it spells big trouble for your raid party.

Meanwhile we have at least 3 legendary stances that could greatly synergize with ventari (jalis for tanks, glint for boon share, mallyx for anti-condi), had we allowed ventari’s effects (and their own) last some time after leaving the legend for some legendary combos instead of total system shutdown for a given guy the moment you F1…

I wouldn’t mind F3 where you can control a player-chosen skill of the inactive legend.
For example being in ventari i would be able to call on jalis’s vengeful hammers for more tanking, or while being in jalis to be able to keep my tablet and move it around (ventari’s will hooked up to f3).

Distortion is hated upon because it’s another chronopoly.
It’s a free “get out of jail card” for party when a raid mechanic is botched and any other party comp would face a deserved wipe.
But once again chrono gets special treatment and can use distortion.

Even ele’s rebound can’t compare, as it affectes only those taking lethal damage (heavily wounded but not dead are left to their fate) and is a one time use elite, while chrono can distort multiple times before ele gets his rebound back on.

How much druid & chrono kits are overloaded is not funny. Warrior is a different offender as he has less unique things going for him, but he gets awesome damage for the amount of support he still provides.

Bottom line this balance is terrible. 3 are mandatory, 6 are an option. I don’t care about chrono “having to be tank cause it’s dps is horrid”.
I care much more about other 4-5 professions not being able to be tanks, despite having tools for it, because chrono.

Likewise for druid.

The problem is monopoly these classes have on buffs.

take away druid’s party wide dps buffs, quickness from chrono and you already get a situation where:

a) healer can be rev, ele guard or druid
b) tanks can be: condi reaper (just slab some trailblazer next to viper), jalis/glint rev, guardian, ele or mesmer
c) might stackers – that’s really not an issue even at this moment. One warr for banners is the real must. Condi engi can stack quite a lot of might (blasting fire fields), i imagine ele could too, as well as boon duration guard.

If chronopoly on quickness and alacrity gets broken the bag of potential tanks gets open.
For extra healers nerf druid’s damage buffs.
For extra might stackers…well work a bit around how easy it is to do it on warr with no real price to pay for it.

This game sure has a lot of ugly in it’s code (hi map loading), but one thing that’s a given..except maybe it’s not is my dc issue.

When i dc i get a message about being disconnected, screen goes black, aaaand that’s it. The sounds of map i was in stay, pc is not locked up, just that the game stops at this black screen doing NOTHING and i gotta manually kill it and restart.

Is this normal way gw2 handles disconnections?

Vincermann – it depends on how you raid. If you got good static squad then two nights might be all you need for weekly 13 li. And i don’t meant whole nights, just 2-3h.
