Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Well you obviously talked about PvE …
Yes of course I was talking about speedruns and speedkills. But if you take a look at how we can perform in challenging content then I think we can say we are not subpar! We will not match the dps of a warrior, but a warrior will not provide swirling winds, cripple, and weakness for example. So I think you are wrong: we are not necessarily mediocre at everything. A lot of elementalist take 30 in arcane and then they become mediocre, but it is quite possible to be potent! As I see it we are close to the role of the guardian: low health, high utility, decent damage.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Arenanet doesn’t seem to think we need a buff because they are a lot of kitten elementalist in PvE that think being mediocre at everything is actually a good thing.
I just had an argument with a bunch of noobs in PvE on my engineer and they all claim the elementalist is great. Makes me sad.
Admittedly, I dont know why I was arguing with them in the first place.
Yes my ele is mediocre at doing the best burst and best dps in the entirety of the PvE world.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I’m black :/
I’m blue.

Retired elementalist theorycrafter
If the content caused the players to get a lot of weakness debuffs that would already be a step forward: less dodge so defense needed, or cleanse required, and it would bring direct damage on par with condis
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
But then Siwtpaw is just going to tell you that it’s only your opinion…
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Hands=exploits
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
To infinity and beyond!
No seriously the fun ends on fotm 80.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Spork? Isn’t that the guy from Strar Trerk?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I see some boasting here
Anyway you may be right, but they stated it from the start. They talked about the class requiring a high skill floor.
However, at the same time, it is the most entertaining profession to play! Even if they nerfed my ele to be as useless as warriors in PvE I would still gladly play it.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
You don’t eat fish with a knife.
Trust me, I’m French.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Ok, thanks to you both
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Are you 100% sure? I don’t doubt what you are saying, I did no tests, but that would mean it is the only modifier that stacks like this, as far as I know.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
When you have a bonus to might duration and a bonus to boon duration, are these bonuses stacking additively or multiplicatively?
EX:
- 10% boon duration
- 20% might duration
Result: 1.20 * 1.10 = 32% bonus duration OR 1 + (0.2 + 0.1) = 30% bonus duration ?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
30k dps is indeed for the FGS burst, at lasts 5s each time
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Not easier, just shorter.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Would you kick me swiftpaw ?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
With 25 stacks of might lava font hits 5700 and auto attack hits for 5700 each second and with reduced cool down on fire spells lava font has almost 100% upkeep. Dps is not obtained with a staff by fury on blast or might on fire cast dps is damage per second. In a well built group might and fury can be maxed without losing dps.
You are being too optimistic.
But yes, staff is strong. I calculated a 1.36 c/s (modified for weapon damage) on a human-size target.
This is about as high as LH, but there are two things to notice:
-LH is not entirely sustained
-LH gives valuable stats to the caster and can benefit from more modifiers
It is hard to say to which extent the two points offset each other.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I think I talked about a bit less than 14k …
Also I used the word “can”
Edit: Anyway if you really need it I can come up with the calculation.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Wow that’s the epitome of wrong that we have right here!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
No he is talking about dps.
LH can do close to 14k dps, a bit less if you are being realistic and take into account a few details, but the bulk is there.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Take a look at the build in my signature
Since you want a bit more survivability I suggest you read the “About the gear” paragraph carefully.
Enjoy!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
In fractals it’s quite useful though
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
The elem is king at stacking weakness: dagger air 2 + glyph of elemental power
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Actually an interesting benchmark would be something of the sort:
At the end of the dungeon some stats are produced:
-total damage dealt by the group
-total downs in the group
-total rezzes in the group
-total seconds of weakness applied
-total attacks blinded
-etc (many statistics representing all outputs inputs possible)
And then each player would get a personal debriefing telling them what percent of these totals they have produced.
You could even have a group average for each statistics so you can benchmark your group against the average group.
This way everyone knows what they have done personally, the group as a whole knows what they have done as a whole, and players afraid of performance checks won’t be threatened with public exposure.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Yeah and with the amount of water I can see on the world map that worries me. It worries me a lot.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Hm
Yes I know, but it’s just good to actually see signs of attention from time to time. It’s probably childish but with the amount of suggestions (hint) that are being put out on this forum in posts, threads, signatures (hint), we just want to feel like we are being heard. It’s just good for the soul!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
You mean like worse than the giant jelly fish?
Well actually you have a point, they did release these two after the initial dungeons.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
You have any link for us to see and despair shoulder to shoulder with you?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Hmm I am not sure but if we look at the bosses they released after the inital dungeons they are not too bad, aren’t they?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Sir Mclain you honour us! Two messages in four days is a lot more attention than we are getting used to
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
@Nikaido & Player Character
Hey I hate the acquisition system just as much as you!
Just pointing out that dunduns will be even easier with ascended stuff to the point we may have to call them “duhs” …
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
One day we complain that dunduns are too easy, the next day we complain that we can’t get BIS in a blink of an eye
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
You could call it rTolling
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Yes in speedruns they are.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
My god, you are right, I was wrong!
Your arguments have convinced me
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I’m pretty sure I’ve made a wall of text explaining how the two concepts are different, so I guess any proper counterargument would have to at least be a bit more than a statement in order to disprove anything.
Also I would like to point out that I pull back everything I said about Kohler, I was misinformed, LoSing him is not an exploit. Just in case someone sees that quote and wonders.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Even easier than that you have storymodes
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
do you know that this game was supposed to not have a trinity?
Expecially a healerIf i need someone to heal me and clean condition then something is really gone wrong.
You mean like if your team mates provide you support?
Yeah that’s got to be wrong
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
You are not very nice with the skritts.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I’m obviously not against the 1-4 method, mostly because killing wave after wave of golems LoSed behind a wall is not my idea of fun
[…]
I have a bridge to sell you.
The fun and legitimate way to do that encounter is to have one guy hack while the 4 others each take one of the four sides (wait they are four sides in the room and one console? gotta check that) and defend the hacker. At first you can kill a few veterans, but as the levels get hacked it becomes more about maintaining aggro, surviving, and protecting. No need to LoS and kill everything at each level.
And if you have a bridge to sell I have a dungeon to sell too, can we barter?
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Lil’ Wayne cannot count to 1k
I mean he knows 1a 1b 1c but he’d never make it to 1k
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I do fotm indeed and I agree with you.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I am not saying anyone is cheating .. woa, take it easy!
What I am saying is that it would be much better for everyone to face the encounters the way they were meant to be faced.
There is a fast and hard way to do this event legitimately, I explained it in my wall of text. It’s only longer than the possible glitch by a couple of seconds.
The exploit is boring as hell. So I think that if people are skilled they should not resort to using the possible glitch.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
What he is saying that it doesn’t make sense that 4 persons can hack a single console. If developers 100% meant to include that tactic why didn’t they put 5 separate consoles?
One console implies that they probably didn’t think about it during the development.
Exactly! Sorry I am terrible at explaining …
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
And then you have to epically put those mats in epic squares in the epic crafting table and press the epic craft button
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Well when we have two techniques to face an encounter, and they involve very different concepts, we can suppose that one of them is unintended. The “Role-play” check simply helps to see if there in any truth in such hypothesis.
Like Haviz said: have you ever seen in a movie a hacking scene with 4 hackers (on the same machine) and 1 bystander ?
If it’s not in Hollywood then it’s not good
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Yeah I am at work, just casually browsing the dungeon forum. By the way I would appreciate if there was more activity on this forum since it is my only source of entertainment at work, and I get bored very fast!
Thanks, I’ll PM you!
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
There are two techniques to face Belka: the exploit and the legitimate way. The two techniques have drastically different concepts. Therefore we can assume that one of them is maybe unintended (possibility). Now, it is obvious for everybody that the exploit technique is unintended. Finally we notice one similarity with stack-hacking in CoE: it is just as much out of the role-play frame.
This is just to say that by comparisons and role-play checks we can see that some techniques are very likely glitches.
So until the devs express that stack-hacking was intended, or until they fix its role-play breach, then we can consider it a glitch.
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
Yes you are right, I was wrong about Kohler. As I see it all the techniques on him are legit and I would consider them exploits. I think it’s not fun, but it’s not an exploit.
Agent Belka (Arah p2 boss 1) is the right comparison.
What does Belka have to do with it?
Belka is the proper comparison (see edit2)
