I believe WoodenPotatoes posted a video of a pre-release version of gw2 where you had classical stats like strength, dexterity, constitution etc. I thought while was watching it that it’s a big shame that stats in that form didn’t make it into a final version. It’d offer so much more build diversity.

They are there to sell you cools skins in gemstore, just like that “Batman and Robin” movie that was created to sell toys.

Edit: Our Order mentors seemed far more interesting characters to be around than DE2.0. It’s a shame they all sacrificed themselves for the sake of my characters.

idea is nice

if not as pvp mode bcs afker but as a guild game mode to have fun in a instance ?

no reward just a mini game?

so or so I like the idea its like a next level of gaming

Well yeah that could be possible too since, when it comes to designing content sky is the limit. That goes twice in cases where pretty much all the mechanics are in place. You can probably put same content in any game mode (open world, spvp, and guild fun activity).

Best fossil pokemon evar.

OT. I think I at least get it now, but sorry… I can’t really get behind this idea… doesn’t really seem that great to me.

I believe elaboration of it is in order. First you misunderstood the suggestion. Then derailed it with pokemons. And then you don’t like it without giving any explanation. I mean we all fight champion monsters on daily basis. Is it because it’s player driven?

So like a siegemachine, only it is a monster you control instead?
Maybe it could work for a PvP mode. Don’t see how this could be added to PvE in any way…. maybe a few special events or something.

Well we already have costume brawls in pve world which is basically the most watered down version of pvp you can get without ppl completely flipping out, and we often fight champions in open world and sometimes even die to their powerful attacks. These would be next level of difficulty since they would be player driven. That would completely eliminate auto-attack-afk crowd and would require much better player coordination to defeat the monster.

I mainly suggested them being in open world as it would cut the need for making new maps and are far more expansive than pvp maps ie more space to maneuver, more monster chasing and more places to hide.

Citizen Kabuto is an old, cult classic game that’s one of the first to introduce asymmetrical pvp with three factions fighting eachother. And it was done right. You should really check it out on google or YT just to grasp the concepts of it.

Evolve was released not that long ago and was heavily inspired by Citizen Kabuto. You get 5 hunter players and 1 player that plays as a huge monster that evolves throughout the game and becomes more powerful as it feeds on wildlife on the map.

With this concept you get to fight the best “AI” possible, player driven monster

Just occurred to me that gw2 has pretty much all mechanics in place to create something like asymmetrical pvp arena with 5 hunters and a giant monster on the other side similar to Citizen Kabuto and Evolve.

Game already has a fair share of giant monsters already in place that can be skins for monster players that gradually gain more skills and health as they progress through the match. Put Zephyrite crystals skills into utility slots so that monsters can easily get away. Expansions will bring gliders for players so they get some mobility of their own.

Maybe even turn them into open world events where Tyrian Orders send you on a mission to hunt them down. Possibilities are endless with this concept, considering the number of options this game offers.

Let's face reality...

oh god no, massive zergs of cc immune people aren’t as effective any more.

Why is this a bad thing?

Cos u can’t meel at all, u lose ur stack and then get stunned – dead during zerg fights and u lose stacks in no time. Already 50% of skills is cc like. Just 1 hammer warrior can take down 2 stacks for every 1 of 5 ppl.

But you just said that you can’t meele at all. So you don’t have to fear hammer warriors then. I have no love for Anet nor reasons to defend them, but to contradict yourself in two sentences that are almost back to back doesn’t help your case at all.

Are my tools less worthy just because I bought them when they came out? Should I dump another +300g to get one with added benefit and other tools that I can actually transfer to other chars?

FYI, you can make them account bound at no cost by exchanging them at the Black Lion Weapons Specialist.

I have no problem with watchwork tool giving sprockets, in fact I think it’s a great idea to add more flavor to them. I think they should expand this idea for all tools. However I do mind that the rest of them are not giving any additional benefits while being at the same price tag.

I bought molten mining pick completely oblivious of the fact that I’d benefit far more from buying watchwork one. On top of that infinite tools that I bought earlier are still soulbound and ofc no way of transfering them to other chars.

Welcome MrHeartless to the forums where we’ll fight you with semantics and tell you what you need and what you don’t need and how to squeeze extra drops of enjoyment from a dry wood. Hope you enjoy your stay! Oh, you’re leaving, nvm then.

But if by some chance you decide to stay prepare some extra cushions for your seat because what most people don’t realize is that the Year of the Ram(ing) began with introduction of ascended gear.

I have very casually crafted almost a complete set of light ascended. All six of my characters have ascended weps. I WvW, so I’m a sucker for the tiny stat increase and I simply enjoy playing. I don’t need to craft any of it. I did just fine with my exotic in WvW. I play pretty casually and I had amassed enough to start down the ascended path. I decided to do so. I enjoy planning for it. I have to manage my mats in as far as what I can sell, what I should keep etc. In summation, believe it or not, there is at least one person who does not share your experience or your opinion. Imbalanced asc armor costs by class

I’m not an expert in crafting or anything , but as a player who loved the game to death before post 400 crafting, I find it difficult to express my disgust with it as dictionaries do not contain words that reflect my feelings towards it. Every single aspect of its implementation is wrong with no redeeming factors.

1. Ascended crafting should fall in line with previous crafting experience that wans’t blatant attempt to drain you of all resources and didn’t torture you with time gating.

2. It should be fully open for TP from basic resources to final products. People should not suffer through it if they have enough gold to straight up buy it off of TP since nothing in ascended crafting spells “personal journey”. It’s more like a personal circle of hell. Being fully available will drop the prices since everyone will compete to sell their product.

3. Why does this abomination exist in a post 400 crafting? Just look at the cost of discovery of an item! Only to later find out that you cannot do anything with it. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ineffable_Intricate_Gossamer_Insignia

Stop trying to jump through hoops of Anet’s incredibly poor design and ask for an overhaul of past 400 crafting in its entirety. It’s not fun. It’s not properly implemented. It shouldn’t exist at all.

Hey Devilmonk! Looks like you’re enjoying the New Player Experience™ added by anet in a recent patch

You see, anet recieved frequent reports that showed players often had difficulties understanding difficult concepts such as weapon swapping, utilitiy slots, downed combat, class features and other complicated processes such as breathing and walking at the same time.

So the solution was to gate each of those horribly difficult concept at artificial levels. Looks like you haven’t unlocked weapon swapping yet! But don’t worry, if it weren’t for Anet locking that content away from you, you might have gotten lost, scared and confused and chocked to death on your own saliva or something.

So you should be thankful you can’t swap weapons yet, heavens knows what a chore it can be doing such a difficult task almost daily!

Ah this post! Delicious!

Traits Part 2

Zergs.9715

Reading this thread feels like reading about some completely different game from the one I bought since I’m a returnee and all my characters are +1 year old (even the low level ones). I can tell you one thing, tho. Leveling and progression is boring as hell.

Anet stripped character progression off of any player involvement from fear that we may not be able to handle such complex mechanics I guess… Levelups are highly anti climactic and traits are very far apart to keep me interested. After every ding I need to take a few deep breaths and force myself forward because I know that the checklist of things has just been unchecked and I need to do all this all over again.

I want to fell that I achieved something when I fill that bar. I want a trait point every level so that I may start messing around with my build right away. Yeah the old system that lot more traits is basically the same as this one, but it felt very very different, because I was interacting with it more often.

In my opinion the new system should be completely scrapped and old one improved.

  • I’d like to start getting trait points earlier
  • bigger and less restrictive trait trees
  • more build defining traits lower on the trait tree to make progression path clearer
  • redesigning minor traits (ex. pick one of three) I die inside every time my character reaches minor trait because I just finished a mountain of braindead and unrewarding tasks to reach it and have a bigger mountain to scale till I reach the fun parts where I get to pick something.

I guess not everyone sees it this way because I’m the “mechanics” gamer that likes his brain constantly buzzing with potential new builds and combinations. That’s why I made 6 lvl80s and 3 more under way. When a game fails to deliver that, I lose interest, which happened to me year ago with GW2. And now I return only to find out that situation in that department is even worse.

I still enjoy playing my leveled characters because of all the options at my disposal, but getting there is a 25 stacks of Torment.

Suggestions for Ascended Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zergs.9715

Zergs.9715

For a guy that has a lot of alts and enjoys constant changing of builds, ascended gear is a game killer. This gear is conceptually opposite to everything Anet built so far for our characters. It is so single-minded in its purpose that Anet can freely scrap all trait lines since you won’t be seeing much of these if you plan on equipping your characters with full ascended, which will btw be required of you. The message is clear: As much as most of us hate it, ascended is here to stay, and I don’t think this will change. What can be changed is level of flexibility to make it more accessible and less of an annoyance.

I think it’d be far more productive to offer suggestions to this problem than to constantly complain about how bad ascended weaps are (and they are design atrocity imo)

1. Bring stats back in line with exotic gear BUT keep skin exclusivity. This suggestion goes in line with “play how you want” philosophy but also provides advantages to those who are willing to go for ascended stuff. Exclusivity part means that future cool skins will be ascended quality. This will make a shift from HAVE TO to WANT TO, and at the same time you are maintaining equal playing field.

2. Give ascended gear ability to switch stats like Leges. Currently making at least two full sets of ascended for 2 builds for a single char borders with insanity especially when they introduce armor. Legendary weaps will still have better skins and will still represent undisputed status symbol so no worries there. This should be nice piece of functionality to prevent ppl going braindead form all the grind required.

Please post your ideas if you have them but keep it constructive. Maybe we even lure a red post out of its lurk.

As a Guardian main, I’d like to suggest (Skills that aren’t very useful):

Spirit Weapons:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Time-to-evaluate-spirit-weapons/first#post2787320

Healing Breeze:
As the leaked, it really should be buffed in some way. Now is just useless.

Hallowed Ground:
Should be a stun breaker or have its CD reduced.

Signet of Mercy:
Its Cast time and CD are just ridiculous. Almost 4 sec to revive? I revive faster in direct reviving. Why I would use it if I can use santuary aside my ally (nobody can gets close, so no stomp) and both me and my ally do not have to worry about projectiles during reviving. Its cast time should be 2 sec and its CD 90~120.

Mace:
Symbol of Faith (#2) should have its cast time reduced to 1s, down from 1 1/4
Protector’s Strike (#3) should be a blast finisher if activated and its “protection if not struck” should be available as an option during the cast.

Traits:
Zeal
Zealous Blade (VII): The healing should scale with healing power (very little).
Focused Mastery (VIII): Should have a secondary effect like the torch and shield to become more interesting.

Radiance
Inner Fire (IV): Should activate with torch #4, so it wouldn’t be so situtional in PvE.
Searing Flames (V): Should have its CD reduced to at least 15 sec to be useful.
Powerful Blades (X): Should have secondary effects like Scepter (more dmg) or mace (HP).

Valor
Honorable Shield (IX): should be in the Adept line. (The shield needs some love. In this way, it will be a very little buff)
Courageous Return (Minor – Mater): Only recharge if you kill a monster when downed. Should recharge with any type of come back.

Virtues
Retaliatory Subconscious (IV): never saw a light field, ever.

Before someone starts to throw knives at me, these are only suggestions.

Very nice list and reasonable proposals. I’d only add one more to it, and it’s a “Scepter Power” from Zeal trait line,

- Scepter damage is increased by 10% (but I’d be fine with 5% as well), and increases projectile speed by 33%

To all who are saying that this isn’t a big deal. This is the worst case of one build lock down I have ever seen. Every class has multiple builds, so when I want to switch from zerker to condi for example it takes forever. And I can’t even obtain gear in a fun way, it’s just grind grind grind then go to Excel spreadsheet to click your way to victory and then back to grind again, but slowly because it’s “time-gated”.

And this is just for ONE character. I have eight! Only now I see that buying those char slots was a grave mistake. When they introduce ascended armor this gap will widen even more. Then I’ll be done with this game forever.

Above all, if we don’t protest this stat increase, it’s just opening them a way for more of this atrocity. What if they decide to push Legendary gear one more level stat-wise? What if they introduce legendary armor? Then divine gear? Beyond divine gear? It can go on forever like that. I bought this game because I didn’t want to feel like a hamster in a wheel.

Because kill shot doesn’t land on anybody who can press v?

It’s situational. Good luck predicting that dodge when someone targets you from a blob of players. Same can be applied to perplex chars. Dodge, stability, stunbreaks, keeping distance, condi reduction, not being glass in condi meta etc. Plus it’s mostly solo roamer with very limited use and offers next to nothing to a group play that actually matters something. It’s a huge sacrifice for a gimmick.

If you stop to channel it in a blob fight, you’re rally bait.

I think that majority of complaints about perplexity runes come from ppl that were unprepared for this type of build or unwilling to change their play style. It’s a new kid in the neighborhood so it’s normal that it comes as a surprise. If you guys watched Auto-kill build vid you will notice:

- mesmer that is shooting with GS point blank
- necros that are not transferring debuffs
- 5 rangers out of which 4 didn’t use “Rampage as One” and one used it at the end of the fight. Two of them were full signet…
- Signet warrior that used SoR near the end

Not exactly the pvp elite. As soon as ppl acknowledge it’s existence in solo roam and adjust their play style a bit, this build will fall in line quickly. I just hope that Anet doesn’t nerf the set based only on initial whine wave. Plus perplex warrs aren’t even the biggest threat with this set of runes.

Also how come no one is whining about 1 hit kill riflelers? There’s a vid of it floating around now.

Sorry can’t imagine myself playing something that needlessly glassy.

Have you not be in the 1000’s of threads were its basically proven that active mitigation via dodging/invuln/stealth etc…. is a million times more valuable than passive mitigation via more HP / toughness?

You might be able to shave 3-5k off of that backstab/eviscerate/heart seeker with toughness and vit, but you can shave ALL of it off with 1 dodge. Meaning the better someone is the more the tend to higher dps gear with more active mitigation.

Don’t condemn yourself to mediocracy through vit/toughness gear, and instead learn how to get better at that game. This IS the side effect of no trinity.

I absolutely understand the sentiment and have no intention of standing like an idiot while ppl are taking swings at me. I’m really not used to play offensive characters like thief, but I eventually made one and I’m really liking the in-yo-face style of play. After going though all the classes out there I may even main this one for a long time

The goal I set it to get as close as possible 50% crit chance with no signet or food, 100 crit damage and with decent defense and EHP. At the end of the build I added food which distorts the picture a bit, but the builder didn’t have the option to remove it so i left it there.

Here’s the build which I’m pretty sure regulars have seen ton of times :P
