Using such serious words like sadism and harrasment in such trivial context devalues them. What kind of a jelly-spined creature are you if you can equate this with sadism?
Your feelings are not measure for the rest of the world.

Actually I find “trolling” to be the word the trivialize and tries to excuse the basic, fundamental fact that this is a person who derives pleasure from other people’s discomfort.

Would that categorize pranks as well as form of sadism? Since it’s so black and white issue I can almost see no difference between deriving pleasure from torturing people and throwing a water filled balloon…

Mirror Shoulders and Uprezzing Armors

Zergs.9715

I don’t know if this is even possible, but it would be great if we could be able to:
- move single shoulder pieces to another shoulder.
- duplicate them to both shoulders
- choose which of asymmetrical shoulders (ex. carapace) we want to show and on what side

Such system is probably not easy to implement, but just imagine the number of combinations that are opening up to you, without adding a single armor piece in the game. Also such features would be beneficial to all future content.

On a topic of uprezzing old armor pieces. First of all, is there any chance of happening at all? When compared to newer stuff dungeon armors look like things from a past era or from completely different game. Some consistency in that department would be nice, yes?

luckily you missed my post, it’s just the 3rd above yours… You can see why nay sayers exist

And it’s not all selfishness, The engine would not cope with the added load… We’ll have a “we removed mounts and minatures due to rising population” and you would be floating around tyria then…. We should prevent this and keep tyria beautiful and make sure the infantile selfish people wanting their rocking ponies are kept at bay….

Have a nice day.

And your point is what exactly?

I case you forgot (accidentally or deliberately) we already have placeholder characters popping up when game is loading. In a same fashion you can have generic placeholder character on a mount. Also engine limitation to me are a call for improvements, not stagnation!

Throwing your attributes back at me without substantiation is pointless and frankly irrational as your hate toward mounts. So lets stop pretending that you have a point and… have a nice day instead.

[Suggestion] Better dailies!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zergs.9715

I don’t think the proposal addresses the issues raised by the OP:

  • People were mostly bored of the old dailies, too; they were just different sorts of tedium, i.e. how is killing 25 critters better than completing 4 events?
  • This doesn’t improve the rewards, which are already more substantial than we got before (i.e. only one reward per 5 dailies).
  • I don’t see how this would reduce the “let down” after completing dailies.

Further, I think the proposal introduces new issues:

  • There’s a balance problem, since it doesn’t scale well to PvP or WvW, which offer fewer types of ‘original’ challenges.
  • It introduces a new grind, for any who are interested in maximizing rewards. Right now, we are limited to 4 rewards/game-mode; this would increase that.

tl;dr I agree with some of the OP’s criticisms; I think the actual proposal makes things worse rather than better.

Finally some constructive criticism! But to address some of what you said.

  • I mentioned bundling up old dailies because they were already in the game so I assume it’s easier to put them back in then coming up with new ones. But frankly only the sky is the limit of what you can put in. Killing critters may or may not be more fun than doing events depending on person, but it breaks up the monotony of the same old. If you have more stuff on offer, boredom settles in at a slower pace.
  • Rewards and let down are in a way tied together. After I’m done with Daily Completionist I can keep rewarding myself by completing more than norm if I want to at my own pace or I can just ignore it.
  • I think there are plenty of stuff that can be introduced into pvp and wvw and that only barrier to making it comparable to pve dailes would be the lack of dev’s creativity.
  • Your last point I will illustrate through examples.
    - This person is gaining more gold than me. Introduce daily gold cap.
    - This person is earning more karma than me. Introduce daily karma cap.
    - This person opened more SW chests than me. Introduce daily chest cap.
Bottom line it’s only a grind IF you make it a grind for yourself! And I don’t think it should be catered to a crowd with no self control at the expense of everyone else.

These two things mean that you have infinite ap farm whole day that would not be healthy to the ap leaderboard at all.
And no Im not at the top I got like 13k ap only

Leaderboard? Where, if I do every daily and a top person does every daily as well I don’t stand any chance of ever catching up with him? Yes, healthy competition is very bad for the “leaderboard”.

The main problem with OPs suggestion is that it returns to what the compulsive/Leaderboard AP hunters were complaining about, but with a vengeance.

There were a number of threads asking ANet to cap AP points. There were people doing ALL of the daily achieve points of the old system and asked ANet to put brakes on it, becayse it was a huge chore but they didn’t want to stop and slip down on the leaderboards. In response ANet limited the number of achieves per day you could get from the daily and capped the total number from dailies. Since they were capped for a reason, it’s unlikely ANet would return to a looser system.

If that is the prime reason why they removed old system then my proposal is indeed pointless. Apparently catering to demands of people who are unable to control themselves is way more important…

smh

Yeah, well, what can be done? There will always be the people who take any system to the extreme. As a company that can be sued if they were warned and people somehow managed to hurt themselves by excessive behavior when using your product, especially if enough people were doing it, then a nerf was inevitable.

What can be done is growing a bit of spine for starters. A person can hurt itself or die by excessively doing events. Doest that mean we should limit those as well. Ultimately you’re not responsible for other ppl’s stupidity. That’s a common sense to me at least.

I am aware of it’s existence, I’m surprised that it’s called a leaderboard and not a joke that it is. Take a good look at those names because they are probably staying there till the shut down of GW2. Without means to compete and challenge those positions I don’t see other outcome.
In my book giving ppl more stuff to do in game will trump any leaderboard any day. But that’s just me. shrug

Not sure on the chore, but I like the current system, where i only need to spend a few minutes more or less, get them done, and then return to playing the game.

This. i personally fully agree with you

And none of that would be changed.
Under my proposal you’d still get Daily Completionist after doing 3 dailies. The random part kicks in AFTER you’re done with with first 3. AFTER you’re done with your Daily Completionist you have the OPTION to continue doing them from a random pool of dailies for more rewards.

Sorry, I cannot state this any clearer that this, but I’m sure someone will manage to misunderstand and/or misread it.

So your solution to people finding them boring and a chore is to add more of them?
and make them unlimited so the poor ap hunters that complained the 12 dailies before 1 ap each was to much and limited their playtime hence why they were changed to now 3 dailys out of 12 bam 10ap if ur high level enugh and your done with them.

No this dont sound any better back to the drawing board mate.

That is not what I was proposing. Back to basic reading comprehension mate.

I can’t speak for the rest of the community, but I personally find them boring, uninspired and fairly unrewarding. Also there’s a sense of anti-climax after I’m done with it. Most of the ppl I know see them as a chore to get over with just to get 10 AP.

How about Anet dig up some of the old dailies we had in previous iterations like daily killer, dodger, critter killer, crafter etc and bundle them together with these we have today into a randomized pool that would rotate continuously throughout the day.
You’d still get your Daily Completionist after finishing 3, but in this case you’d be able to continue after that point.
- Every time you complete one, you’d get a new one from a random pool.
- Every time you complete 3 after Daily Completionist you get 1 or 2 APs

If you are familiar with game Fallout Shelter you may see where the inspiration is coming from. I think they did better job at drawing ppl into doing dailies with constant desire to finish “just one more”.

With improved pool of available dailies, maybe a bit better rewards and unlimited source of things to do I think dailies could be quite fun experience. The reward would depend on how far are you willing to push yourself and it would neatly fill AP gap we got by loosing old monthly system.

Also button that completely hides dailies…
Thanks!

Swap Staff and Cele #5s?

Its a support/defensive weapon.. what did you all expect?

Which is totally redundant because it charges the AF to enter CAF which is also a support/defensive form. The staff would be miles better off with less healing and more damage.

Totally disagree. Staff been great as is. I like all its tools. It has defense tools, a cc, a blast movement control, a AoE heal at target location and the AA is great. Only Wasp need buff. Thats pretty much it.

i dont play Staff Druid to be Berserker meta

No need to be overly defensive. Also no one here mentioned zerker meta… it’s about clear differentiation of roles and you’re not loosing anything basically. This is no just about staff it’s also about celestial form as well.

If I want to support my team I’d like to have all my tools available. If I have to quit my support form just to provide projectile to healing wall and vice versa, it’s not only incoveneient, I think it’s poorly thought out and just creates needless artificial complexity.

For example:
If Natural Convergence were a staff skill you’d be able to lock down enemy > pet cc > trigger Ancient Seeds. So it’d have some solo application as well instead of just being reliant on other ppl to do something during that time window.

And on top of it all, let’s be frank, thematically, healing wall fits better in celestial form than staff and that single damaging skill in celestial form won’t make any difference damage wise because it’s not where it should be.

Swap Staff and Cele #5s?

Staff, aside from its AA and #2 does not have great deal of offensive capabilites, so it’d make sense that Natural Convergence (cele #5) goes to staff. Likewise the staff Sublime Conversion (staff #5) should go to Celestial form since it’s falls into support type of skills.

This would unblur the line between damage and support for both staff and celestial form and it just makes sense from thematic standpoint.

It’s a bit of a gimmick tbh. A nice gimmick no doubt! It’s pretty good in PVE and puts rangers right back into the dungeon runs undiscriminated. But I don’t think this will be overly used in pvp since you need to blow your heal for it which if you do prematurely just for boon duration means certain death. Also very few of these boons are transfered outside of you and your pet. It’s just basic stuff that rangers already had access to, so I don’t know what’s all the fuss about.

OMG someone else can stack boons FOR THEMSELVES just like ele does for entire party…

Zergs.9715

Combo fields and finishers used to be heavily advertised to us before the game launch and I was very excited for this aspect of the game. As much as some of them can be useful, not much has changed since release. I think that with new mechanics and some old ones there’s a potential to create new and impactful interactions.

These are not standard field/finisher interactions since i think we have all of them pretty much covered irregardless of their usefulness. Here are just some examples I came up with.

  • Taunt + Fear being at the same time on the target produce Confusion stacks
  • Ice field + Water field overlapping causes knockdown. Slippery!
  • Immobilize + Knockback/Launch/Pull creates “tearing” effect which deal additional damage
  • Lightning field + Water field overlapping causes a series of mini shocks

I think it’s safe to say that there’s a lot of untapped potential in this area. If you come up with new combos lease post them

It’s not a new subject. And as per usual, I shall reply with the standard “Why?” question. With the way the world is populated with Waypoints in every nook and cranny, barely a stone toss away from one another, why do we need mounts? A mount would obviously be considered necessary to speed up the player, right? If not, then you have two mounts already in the game, a flying broomstick and -carpet. But if it needs to speed up the player, you completely negate the effect of one of our Boons, Swiftness, and stats through Utility/Traits/Runes providing Movement Speed. So again, why? Can’t you collect skins as-is? Or perhaps Miniatures (though since they are not possible to completely collect, I don’t see why anyone would bother themselves with collecting them). You could collect the Mail carriers. Finishers. There’s plenty of things to collect besides a mount. A mount which honestly feels very out of place and unnecessary when there are so many Waypoints.

If you just stopped and thought about for a second before you posted this you’d know that obvious answer would be “Why not?”.
We have wings for backpacks yet we cannot fly so… Why? Again, the answer is the same. And it’s cool and fun and people love wings. In the same fashion, some people love mounts and they can be cool and fun. On top of it all they can bring potential monetary gain for Anet.

Saying that mounts negate current game mechanics is silly. It’s like saying that Waypoints negate teleporting skills and boons and swiftness etc.

That’s a very interesting topic!

I wouldn’t mind seeing a spec that doesn’t give new weapon but allows you to wear different armor class as a trade off for being very powerful. Example: Warrior > Shaman goes full magic mofo but can only wear light armor. Or the other way around.

This above ties in with another one of your questions. I don’t think there’ll be any restrictions in a sense that warrior will never wield magic. Ranger is fairly physical class yet they are getting Druid spec that seems to be magic oriented. So I don’t think they’ll put suck restrictions in place.

I think it’s fairly safe to say that every spec will be getting new set of utility skills or versions of existing ones (I’m looking at you guardian tomes!)

Zergs.9715

I’m looking at it as item classification. I only brought up the wallet and currencies as an example of classification determines where it’s stored and where it’s stored determines where and how they are accessed.

Currently when you buy an actual item from the gem shop, you get one of them. Sure some you have to “activate” to get them moved to a storage location but you still get one of them.

Gem bought “mounts”, gathering tools, salvage kits and special trading area access aren’t the kind of items that are intended to be easy to share between characters. They want you do buy duplicates. Not everything from the Gem Shop has to be accessible from any character at any time.

But I can see your point, it’s a pointless flavor item rather than being useful. Maybe they can add a “mounts” tab to the Hero page.

If I buy a mini from a gemstore it’s shared across all my characters, so what’s your point? Why shouldn’t this be the case with toys? Having a single space where I can store them in for all my chars would reduce the hassle of transferring them through the bank and can actually motivate me to use them once in a while.

This is excellent idea +1

Just want to point out that possible number of combinations does not mean equal number of viable builds. If you factor in:
- trait synergies

- inability to take two traits from same tier
- potential buggy traits

The number of possible builds is SIGNIFICANTLY lower. In single digits, actually.

Zergs.9715

I do not dislike new system entirely because it does force me into some tough decisions. However… I hate when Anet is trying to maintain some illusions about it.

- Adept, Master, Grandmaster minor traits no longer exist. You might as well roll them all into one massive trait and you’d be none the wiser. It’s basically an illusion of having 3 traits just so it visually looks it has more. I mean no one is stupid to fall for that right?

- Adept, Master Grandmaster grand traits almost completely lost their meaning. You can swap places of all GM and Adept traits and there’d be no difference. Because you now go all the way into “tree”.

- Some very questionable trait placements, to a point of utter ridiculousness. Worst of all there’s no sign okittennowledgement or intent to rectify such issues. Most of them are left where they were with complete disregard of the fact that now you have limited number of trait lines you can choose from.

Mechanically this system isn’t bad it just feels like Anet is STILL stumbling in the dark with it. I Fear that the biggest downfall of it would be bad trait placement especially now when they made such a restrictive system with absolutely no wiggle room.

I think that Anet hit the jackpot with introduction of Mawdrey. It removed rng and added complex but meaningful mix of interaction with environment and gathering. Its challenging but not in a “hurr durr get 250 charged lodestones” kind of way.

Yes, but it’s way easy to acquire, all things said.

The problem with relying less on RNG always comes down to how creative rarity and as a result of that bragging rights or a feeling of accomplishment.

I wouldn’t say easy, but reasonable. There are multiple factors here that should be taken into account.

1. It still takes decent amount of time to complete it if you decide to craft everything.

2. Not everyone has all the crafts which can be an obstacle

3. Yes, ppl can just straight up buy everything but it still requires time to gather gold for all the required mats. This goes more in line with the initial “Play how you want” philosophy than anything else. This is what we were promised.

4. This is just one item we’re talking about here, with one set of stats of your choosing. Now imagine if all good items had such good structured crafting. It’d take quite some time to complete a full set. Of course with less artificial time gating and more player involvement which in itself would be a form of soft gating.

I know all this above may sound completely off topic, but I think it ties to RNG quite nicely. Post 80 progression has to be meaningful with a clear set of goals and ironed out path ahead. RNG provides none of that and just turns game into an elaborate slot machine.

- Item is cool looking
- it sends me on an adventure across Tyria
- it put some meaning into 500 crafting
- it gives me additional functionality in a form of Mawdrey II
- no praying to RNGesus required

What else could one want? It’s perfect!

It’s most likely that they recognized the potential of such system, considering that they are introducing similar structured way of obtaining precursors, but I can only hope they revisit everything, all item pool, including Mystic Forge crafted exotics.

As someone who is playing since release (with one pause) and has almost nothing to show off except random rares and extremely rare exotic no one needs, I’m naturally opposed to current rng system. In fact I detest it.

MMO Manifesto - Does anyone remember this?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zergs.9715

Part of the problem is that people took the manifesto, and other comments, out of context and read them as, and I’m going to paraphrase this, “the word of god from the mouth of god.” A very good example is just how much people improperly assumed things regarding a precursor “scavenger hunt” and basically would riot every time a patch came out with no info.

“Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill; it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun(…)”

how is this possibly taking things out of context? it says what it says. You can argue that the context was anet trying to sell us the game, so they are hyping the product as much as possible, deviating from the real game as much as possible, but they still said what they said and they fed us so much BS before the game was launched, that their credibility is zero at this time.

I guess that the context you refer to is: “they are a company trying to sell the game so of course everything they say will be a lie”

I rarely grind and I dislike grinding. I have never fealt forced to grind in this game to enjoy every part of it, even all fractals levels can be enjoyed without grinding. Some people grind becouse they want stuff now now now now now but most stuff you can get by just playing every part of the game and some day you got what you want, It has worked for me. But what it is about is not having to grind to have fun and that you can in this game and you have always been able to since release of the game. So offcourse you cant take that out of context when it is so “Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill; it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun(…)” is perfectly true.

And monkey behind a typewriter will eventually replicate entirety of Shakespear’s writings. Unlike eternal cosmic monkey we have limited time on this planet and some of us would like to have fun when we give portion of our time to this game.

Entirety of the game has come down to SW chest farm DT chest farm and champ trains. The rest of it is barren.

1. Lot of things could be solved by making Toughness/Vitality/Healing Power runes more appealing with more impactful effects. There’s a good reason why Hoelbrak runes are popular, because they are containing elements that should have been domain of Toughness runes.

2 Toughness effectiveness should have better scaling. Instead we are getting diminishing returns as it goes higher.

3. Healing Power should be a counter to Condition damage, just as Toughness is counter to physical damage. This would be a massive incentive for people to utilize that stat.

4. There are more Power runes than Vitality and Healing power runes combined! You can argue that not all Power runes are equally effective and desirable, but that goes double for Vitality, Toughness and Healing power runes, which makes situation even more dire.

Bottom line you don’t need to nerf condi and power numbers if you provide soft counters to it, like the one above suggested. If you’re banging on a unprotected target you should deal massive damage, but that damage should be countered harder if you decide to go for protection.

I’ve been waiting for low level content to become challenging again for 3 years!

I always love this posts. Are you people really level up to 80, gear yourself up in
exotic or even ascended, just to go then directly to Queensdale to have a greater
challenge then you had there as when you were level 1-15 ?

Oh my gawd .. i leveled up to 80 .. and now i am NOT weaker than i was at
level 1 .. that can’t be right .. the whole reason for leveling is to get weaker
and weaker. If i’m 80 i expect to need a full party of five to kill a skelk in
Queensdale .. and not oneshot it like those newbies.

Really .. go kill some Terragriffons if you want more challenge.

Yeah I mean why go anywhere else when you can boil down entire Tyria to one map and stay there and grind and grin and grind until you’re drooling mess.

No, I want challenge wherever I go because that’s what makes game interesting to me. If you want to feel overpowered, claim your dominance over others by having slightly larger numbers and are looking for something to keep your kitten upright, you certainly have enough mmos out there that do that. Big titles too, can’t miss em!

If Anet says that entire world is endgame then I well expect it to feel like endgame map.

I’ve been waiting for low level content to become challenging again for 3 years! They promised us this and finally delivered and still there’s someone who complains about it.

We were overpowered all this time in low level zones and people who suffered the most from it were low level chars that were just trying to level up, when a level 80 char comes in and plows through the mobs like hot knife through butter. I like that it’s more fair now.

WP’s ideas are excellent ones and I truly hope Anet listens to such constructive advice. It’d be great if they’d adopt idea and expand upon it. You don’t need increased health to make content more challenging. Like he said make mobs attack more often, give them boons that need to be stripped, increased number of skills they use with increased difficulty etc.

The future of underwater combat

I love underwater combat. I really hope it returns one day in a full swing, but right now I can only hope that they don’t remove it entirely. It’s a shame that they are removing it from pvp for god knows what reason. I personally love to see new set of skills when I go underwater, different than the one I’m mashing whole day long!

To fix some of the gripes I’d suggest they start with water surface combat. It really doesn’t make any sense that you cannot fight while on the water surface.

The other problem is camera that keeps bumping into surface of the water. Other than those minor problems there’s nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

If you’re too incompetent to handle more than two ground based weapon don’t go into water. If you’re having problems with Z axis, don’t go into water.
