It does feel kind of stupid that a foot high ledge blocks you from aoeing things on the ground below you.
At least change where the players LoS start is calculated from, preferably changed to the height of a mid-size norn. Right now feels like if my knees can’t see a target, I can’t hit it.
See you after work tomorrow CD! And HoD, I have faith you’re going to pull together one day and climb right back up.
And thanks again for leading that group Coral. CD went through with a 30+ man group, capped everything on their own borderlands against TC’s 10 or so. And then left.
Grabbed a few more people, then ran a karma train that capped everything but Cliffside, due to CD getting some re-inforcements in.
Got a few easy levels out of it, so no complaints here of PvDooring at the end of a matchup.
YB doesn’t have a big enough night crew to counter CD
Neither do we really. We’ve got enough to about half fill 2 maps to defend our holdings, and still in need of more players if we want to break into, and then stay in Tier 2.
Skeleton crews are ok if they have enough siege to counter the enemy’s, but they have trouble dispersing the enemy zerg. We had this problem a lot with our matchup with SoS months ago, where we’d kill all their siege shortly after they put it up, but then they’d just autoattack down 80% of a reinforced gate because we didn’t have the numbers to get rid of them all.
(edited by Zynthetic.2954)
I’ve been in EB this week, and CD generally gets HoD’s holdings without any opposition at night because we don’t have the numbers. Last night I made the call to let them have the HoD keep, and instead use those 15 minutes to double up on our defenses.
So if we have 2 skeleton overnight crews defending against CD’s asian presence, should be able to slow their nightcap ppt. Plus their forces would also be split, and if they hit TC or Yak’s, the other could hit CD and make them retreat.
Although if TC or Yak’s worked with CD, that server would get owned…. But CD would turn around and focus on them later in the night.
“The enemy of my enemy is my friend” would likely come into play, otherwise mutual destruction would likely be assured.
Hoping for a good 3-way match. Right now in CD/TC/HoD it’s TC up 500 during the day, CD up 400 during the night, and HoD taking back their stuff whenever they feel like it.
So hopefully a 3rd powerhouse would stablise the point swing, and make for an interesting matchup.
If TC wins, we’ll probably end up in Tier 2.

If you’re quickly flipping objectives in a ~10 man group constantly, you’ll get more loot and experience then you ever would doing PvE.
I was running around in a group of 8 capping camps, orges, sentries etc, and rocking up to towers just as the door went down in WvW the other day on my 65 necro. In about 40 minutes I got 3 levels and had to vendor my 80 slot inventory twice from all the loot bags.
That being said, you can get 10 levels from leveling cooking for about 2 gold, some karma and a level ~65 toon for about an hour or less work.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/56511-chef-cooking-0-400-guide/
Well getting all the member guilds of the Alliance War Council to register on http://www.gw2guilds.org/ would at least be a good start. A lot of our major guilds aren’t listed.
TC lost SM to a 5 golem zerg from CD a few hours ago. They zerged the north outer gate, got through, and we wiped about 75% of their forces.
But noone watched the golems, and they ran to the east inner gate and knocked that down. CD was in the Lords room while most where still outside on the clean up job. Lost SM a few minutes after that.
Few hours later, after CD caps all of HoD’s stuff off of us, main force attacks SM with trebs, tear a wall down, go north, and attack it. 5 of us rock up, decide to go hit the south gate to see what happens.
CD pushed the main force back out and downed our trebs, but the 5 of us took down the south gate before they noticed. We rallied those left outside the south wall, ported them in, roflstomped into the Lord’s room, and reclaimed Stonemist back in the name of Tarnished Coast.
Fun night thus far.
A couple of amusing screenshots from about 15-18 hours ago in EB, from the perspective of TC defending against the CD zergs.
gw040 – CD attacking Klovan’s wall with a ram and a golem. They then set up about 5 catas in front of the mortar 5 minutes later.
gw041 – CD zerg player v dooring Aldons for a while after we took out all their siege equipment.
gw042 – a CD player trying to exploit his way into the Lowlands keep. Amazed this hasn’t been fixed yet tbh.
gw043 – 4 Tarnished players holding off 15 CD players, their ballista and an arrow cart. Funnily enough, this lasted for a good 10 – 15 minutes, and TC scored more kills (~5) then CD did (only 1). Went on until I had to bail to take out a catapult.
gw044 – CD attacking a gate with a ballista.
Best fail of the night though goes to Tarnished Coast however. Just as CD started attacking the inner gate of SM, someone bought the patrols upgrade, using up 2000 supply leaving us with only 400. SM fell shortly after, which was a pity, because the fight for SM the night before was a multiple hour epic clash.
Looking forward to more shenanigans tonight.

So do we have a full listing of all WvW guilds on the server anywhere? Preferably complete with guild numbers, what time they play at, play styles and a list of commanders in the guild.
Would be helpful for those looking to find guilds that suit their times and play styles, or which guild their favorite commander is in.
How is stopping free transfers going to end Oceanic and NA player v dooring the whole map off eachother? If anything free transfers improve it because the worldwide population can move around and mix, creating more realms with a 24 / 7 presence. Free transfers got TC a few oceanic guilds, and it got SoS like 500+ more NA members.
Dixa, if you read the rest of the thread, you’ll see your own servermates are asking for NA transfers. Turn off free transfers, and SoS, along with so many other realms will be condemned to where they are in the rankings, and we’ll be stuck with 4 tier 1 realms, 3 tier 2s, and the rest practically uncompetitive.
That being said, they should probably stop free transfers to JQ, HoD and SBI. Possibly ET to, but they seem to have a population problem still, and thus no 24/7 coverage.
If anything, Arenanet needs to make an official post, encouraging players of different timezones to move around for a more even, balanced, and 24 / 7 WvW.

Last week, having a small night crew did help for TC. It was ~+660 for TC primetime with SoS having almost none, vs ~580 for SoS primetime with TC at +100.
The hundred point difference adds up over the course of the week when it’s 8 hours of alternating domination for each server.
Dear Sea of Sorrows,
We warned you.
Yours sincerely,
Tarnished Coast
If guilds are waiting for more people to get into the map, and there is a queue, can you at least go to the nearest tower or keep and group up there? At least then you’re doing something useful by defending the place.
I remember when I was on SoS, a guild of about 20 waited in spawn for an hour (afk numbers going up as time went on to about 40) till their WvW was scheduled to start.
We lost a keep and 2 towers in that time, and they did nothing but dance and waste queue spots.
If your vendoring / buying a new set of gear off the TP that’s fine, but when you’re legitly wasting 30 minutes of your server’s queue……
Should put a kick in WvW if you’re inactive in WvW for 15 minutes or something.
Just took a keep and a tower with ~8 people. Now half of have gone to bed, and there’s 2 people here on defense, rest went elsewhere. More siege down atm then we have people to man them.
We REALLY need more oceanics and euros. No queues at all for anything currently (10pm east AU), and still holding a decent amount of points. Suggest all oceanics looking to be competitive give Tarnished Coast a go.
Its interesting, certain Dragonbrand guilds have approached Crystal Desert guilds with bets in the effect of “If we win, we’ll move to your server, if you win you move to ours…”
Couldn’t really blame them. The force of both servers combined would be a server to be reckoned with.
TC is looking stay in the higher brackets, preferably with a victory
DB is wanting to get into tier 2.
CD wants their spot back next to IoJ, and continue pushing tier 1.
Winning this matchup means a lot to all parties.
Hit me up in-game, or anyone from the AWC. Definitely important for the VoIP coordination.
That’d be great, always easier being able to talk on voice coms to the masses, and it’d give a greater sense of cohesion to the whole server.
Hoping for this to turn out into a fun, balanced matchup.
And as for our “tactics” not working on higher tier servers. We know our karma trains won’t win us matchups, but it does give us something to do while we’re ahead. TC needs to defend what we take, and hold it this time around.
(edited by Zynthetic.2954)
The problem is that many realms are still getting their act together. If you look at the first few pages of threads here, you’ll see how many realms as a whole are recruiting. If you deny them free transfers, then more realms will be stuck as nonviable for WvW, and will likely result in reduced participation and encourage further teamstacking on top realms to ensure victory.
I mean do we really want 4 only competitive servers, or would we rather have 10+?
That being said, they do need to stop all the bandwagoners from getting free victories. Make it so that the top 3 or 4 realms* in WvW have to pay to transfer, but free for all others. (*for now, increasing in number as more realms become competitive.)
I feel sorry for those who have to endure 6 hour queues just to carry freeloaders to victory.
TLDR; Stop free transfers to JQ, HoD, SBI and possibly ET and BG.
Tier 4, Tarnished Coast, Sea of Sorrows, and Gate of Madness was balanced at the start of the matchup between SoS and TC. SoS nightcaps TC, then TC nightcaps SoS. So if you’re on at one server’s primetime, its mostly just Player vs Door. GoM just randomly rocks up when they feel like it and takes stuff all over the map.
Even TC’s defense attempts in EB becomes becomes Player vs Door due to taking out SoS siege, but not having the numbers to get rid of them, and having the 40 SoS zerg autoattacking down the door.
In the end though, TC’s small lead every day added up, and it’s now at ~120k, but will go down again as we’re coming into SoS primetime.
Last week’s match (TC v Mag v Ebay) was even at first I heard until TC started gaining their small night crew and threw the balance off. We went from midnight zergs to getting zerged at midnight.
TLDR; Tier 4 wasn’t balanced, but due to heavy NA vs heavy oceanic vs small NA.
(edited by Zynthetic.2954)
Mesmer or thief hiding out maybe? The fact they went up the pathway to the Dawn’s Tower makes me think that it’s unlikely to be a flying hacker.
Or maybe a small team broke in and took it, and the swords under attack sign had run out after that? Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve broken into the lords room without the defenders noticing.
To be fair though, no idea.
EAST COAST. WEST COAST. TARNISHED COAST IS BEST COAST.
Coming from an Aussie to.
But seriously, looks like we’ll be in the tier 3 matchup next week, versus my guess is Dragonbrand and Crystal Desert.
Jumping up 3 tiers in 3 weeks, hoping for a solid tier 2 spot soon next to Isle of Janthir.
As always, TSG welcomes any newcomers with welcome arms. We’ve got numerous Oceanics and Americans, and 1 Euro, but always looking for more soldiers to fight the good fight and defend our home in the Mists War.
Protip: Keep scouts on the enemy zerg, and people watching the map.
Never know when they’re building a golem army.
Protip: If you have the manpower, fight just outside the walls to utilise your keep/tower/castle’s defenses while stopping the enemy team from pushing up easily aoeing them down.
Defensive area denial abilities such as Wall of Reflection are brilliant for this. Just know to get back inside if you’re overwhelmed.
2 things people need to realise;
a) There isn’t enough WvW players to give every server 24/7 coverage.
b) Americans, Europeans and Oceanics should all be spreading themselves around multiple servers for the sake of competition. To many realms have an over-abundance of one group, but little or none of the other.
More guilds that move around, the more intense the competition becomes. TSG moved from SoS to TC, and now TC has a group to hold their EB takings during the night. If 3 more guilds did the same to hold the borderlands, then TC wouldn’t be so vulnerable to nightcapping still. This applies to all servers across the board.
TLDR; Spread out > profit > win.
Ideally, you should have a mesmer or two finish the puzzle, and then port the zerg there daily (which takes like 5 minutes), instead of people wasting hours on end during a crucial part of the day when there’s still a queue.
But if your server is slaughtering, then by all means go ahead. Last matchup TC’s zerg was told to go do the jumping puzzle to give Emhry and Mags a chance to cap stuff back, because all of EB was green (including sentries).
Maybe make it accessible when you’re servers queue isn’t maxxed out or has a large lead (50k+ points)?
I don’t know about anyone else in TC or SoS, but in TSG we just let GoM cap their own stuff back to deny it from the other (TC or SoS) server or for targets in our our karma train zergs. Also means we don’t have to defend it at night against SoS.
My understanding is that GoM is a super-casual server that neither TC or SoS takes seriously, and would need a whole server-worth of transfers to be competitive.
Zoula, that’s why TSG transferred to TC. Great community here, even though none of us roleplay (except for the odd guy in a bar while waiting for a WvW queue).
I’d rather lose with friends then win with people I dislike.
Don’t get me wrong, TC badly needs more oceanics for WvW, but at the same time I don’t want the wrong sort of people to come in and ruin the great roleplay community (and community in general) here.
If you’re oceanic and transfer over to Tarnished Coast, make sure to hit us up at TSG. We’re a small guild currently, but our presence defending stonemist at night has been noted by the server.
Also, capping a keep with 8 people while SoS are distracted for the win.
b) TC is the unofficial roleplay server, and in general, has a lot of nice people that work together as a team. If you’re not nice, and are not willing to co-operate with each other, don’t come here. If you are, you’re more then welcome, hit up TSG or PINK, or any other WvW guild we have.
c) Isle of Janthir is the dominant oceanic WvW server. I suggest if you’re looking for hardcore oceanic WvW, transfer there. They beat SoS and are still holding their 2nd tier spot. SoS has now dropped to the 4th tier, and are losing their matchup vs the roleplay server.
TLDR; Don’t listen to Cayden.
Someone link this thread where RUN is talking about coming back to TC. We’re having a good laugh over this in vent.
Also, behold one of TC’s mysterious “The Sovereign Gaming” guildmates.
Off topic: Om nom nom golems.
(TSG) The Sovereign Gaming is recruiting on Tarnished Coast. (WvW/Spvp)

After tonight, it’s been clear that TSG REALLY needs some more mesmers and Eles. We have none of either at level 80 currently.
If you enjoy skilled tactics that make a huge difference and capping keeps with only 5 people hit up any of the guys listed above.
^ What Slamz said. Make it a researchable with a high cost but low production time that upon completion, gives the compendium to the guild master, who can then distribute it to whoever he sees fit.
And refund all existing compendiums to.
My problem with the commander title is when you have people that have no clue at all as to what they’re doing leading majority of forces on the map. Also the people that refuse for their zerg to be split up into smaller groups.
You do not need 50 people to cap a sentry point.
You can solo cap an undefended camp if you’re pro enough, 5 people should be able to handle it.
Increasing the price will just make it harder to obtain for the small yet talented guilds.
So I’m all for having some sort of skill prerequisite. Sadly tactical genius is something that would be hard to turn into an achievement. Just seems that currently the person with the biggest bank gets to lead the server (for better or for worse).
If they were pro they’d attack during the siege and kill both teams.
But it is a legit tactic, we took Stonemist that way last matchup. We ran through the whole in the wall Ehmry’s trebs made with a force of 50, circled around to the southern inner entrance, dropped 6 rams on the gate, destroyed it and then killed the keep lord.
Funny thing was, when we went outside, both Mag and Ehmry were still fighting outside.
TLDR: Legit Tactic, just bring arrow carts and a catapult for defense after you cap, or have scouts watch for enemy incs.
(edited by Zynthetic.2954)
Well someone on Maguuma just used the mesmer portal exploit to go through the gate or something at Quinten Lake.
And they still got smashed.
If you go up against stronger servers you can work out your faults and work towards improving them, something lower tiers can’t.
Being thrashed by NSP when the alliance was still there (TSG was on SoS at that point), we learnt a lot of advanced tactics from them which we’ve fielded against our foes in later matches.
If TC only goes up 1 tier, we should be fine, if we go up two however, I admit we may have our hands full at that point.
Regardless, we, as a server, just need to work towards strengthening our WvW presence, and working towards greater co-operation and collaboration with the rest of the PvP and WvW guilds on our server. I know for a fact TSG badly needs more members to field a full TSG zerg and/or multiple harassment groups.
TSG has been destroying at night times for WvW. Tarnished Coasts will grab all of Eternal overnight. With pain train express leading TSG’s zergs we have been dominating every night. Magguuma has been putting up a fight though.
When I logged off last night at about 2am EST Maguuma had actually made an effort, and had more points ticking then what TC had.
Admittedly, would be nice if TC stayed out of the fighting today, just to let Emhry and Mag fight over 2nd. We all know that won’t happen though.
Good luck to Mag and Emhry today.
Funny you should say that, because yesterday myself, another TSG guildie and a random thief held out at the lord’s room in one of the hills keeps against 15 maguuma, and wiped them.
So I’d have to agree with that statement.
To be honest I think the only reputation that’s been damaged is Ehmry’s, since they are the only one that think there is still an alliance.
The scoreboard says different, the map says different, even random players from TC and Mag say different.
There is no alliance. Everyone is indiscriminately targeting everyone else regardless of server.
The SS shows this. TC owns half of Mag’s borderlands. As for Eternal, TC has Quinten Lake, while defending our holdings at Anza and Mendons. And if you can’t take Mendons back…… Good game.
Not trying to brag or anything, but I just wanted to clarify something.
The guild I’m in transferred to Tarnished Coast on Sunday or Monday (I personally transferred a day late). We transferred from Sea of Sorrows, and are generally active when the Americans are asleep.
Yesterday we led zergs in both Maguuma and Ehmry borderlands, and capped most of them as a result (kitten buggy garrison lords). The previous 3 nights before this we also led the zerg that capped all of the Eternal Battlegrounds.
Hence why Saturday and Sunday where a bit more balanced (since we weren’t there), and why everyone’s woken up to full green maps lately.
For a small guild, seems our presence seems to have made a difference, albeit more then I’d personally like. I find doing supply runs more fun then baseraping with trebs.
(edited by Zynthetic.2954)
Hi, I’m part of TC’s night crew in Eternal. How can you think that there is an alliance between servers when the whole map is green?
Screenshot was taken at 2:30am EST, or around then.
Also shows that all 3 servers weren’t letting the other teams get a foothold in their own borderlands overnight.
