WouldGW2 be more successful with HolyTrinity?

Another thought just occurred to me as I was reading some of the other responses to this thread: imagine the forum QQ that would spawn overnight as people demanded that healers and tanks get priority on full maps (ie at Teq time.)

“We keep failing because too many DPS and not enough tanks or heals can get on the map. There should be priority queuing for these needed roles for events. QQ.”

You may be right that it would attract other players, but it would also drive away a lot of dedicated GW2 players. What’s the point, from a player perspective, of killing of the existing community to increase the number of new players?

I admit, there have been times I’ve gotten frustrated and wished for the simpler mechanics of tank/heals/dps, but in the long run, the universal utility of all professions makes for a much more dynamic game, more interesting gameplay , and more cooperative community. I’ll take that over higher subscription numbers any day.

(Note: I exclusively played DPS in WoW from WotLK through early WoD: those dungeon/raid queues can kiss my kitten lol)

What attracts most of us to gw2 is that it is unique and doesn’t follow the same pattern that most mmos follow. Personally, I would rather let WoW continue to live than be forced back into a system in which I’m pigeonholed into a specific role regardless of the content I’m trying to enjoy.
“GW2 might not be unique and a better game with holy trinity. ..”
Then why change ?

Crazy suggestion here: why not give players the choice of which version of the model they get? Then it’s not forced no anyone, but those that want dresses and skirts can have them.

I like this idea. I’d love to put my male norn guardian in a long, flowing dress.

Personal Bank Gold Changes?

Honest question here; what benefit is there to having gold storage in your bank? I could understand if gold weren’t shared account wide, or if there was a low cap to how much gold you could have, but I really see no benefit to adding gold storage to personal banks.

Well, the other day I did map completion in Straits of Devastation on my guardian with 110% mf. By the time I got 100% map, I had three rares and a couple bags full of blues and greens. Moved on to Malchor’s Leap, but popped mf boosters, mf food, and banners for a total of 210% mf. When I got to 100% map, I had 7 rares, one exotic, and a bag full of blues and greens. On both maps, all I was doing was vistas, POIs, and skill points and only killing what was between me and my objectives. No champs or events or anything like that.

So there was definitely a noticeable increase in rare or better drops; whether that was because of the increase in magic find or simply a good run of RNG luck could be debated, as it’s merely my own anecdotal experience.

want a 100% health potion well we got it here in the gem store for just 900 gems dont work in wvw/spvp

I played a game that worked like that. For your health to regenerate, you had to sit down. Any action, damage, or even non-damaging debuff applied to you would force you to stand, stopping health regeneration. There were potions available in-game for gold, but the amount of health restored was laughable (Recover 1000 health instantly, on a toon with 200k health) and had a 30 second cooldown.

The cash shop, though, sold potions that restored 75% of max HP, and had a 10 second cooldown.

Ahem cough a “free” market would exist in a game without limitations on loot. Free is free therefore nerfing farming locations instead of allowing the so called free market to handle the influx of materials naturally isn’t free. It’s regulated. And don’t get me started on currency coming into the market from an endless outside source aka gem to gold conversion.

Actually, as I understand it, the gem to gold conversion is not an outside source of gold. The gold comes from players who are buying gems from pleasures who are selling gems, which is why the price fluctuates. I believe Anet even takes a cut off the gold, making it a gold sink.

Well said, Ragion. There is much that I’ve missed out on in this game as well as others because I’m not always an “every day” player. In WoW, I missed out on the highest raid tier gear because I simply did not have the time to dedicate to a serious heroic raiding guild. In this game, it’s been things like the blade shard back piece, because I didn’t have the time to run LA events every day. I remember for a while they would occasionally have free items in the gem store (i.e. a free black lion key, instant repair canister, or karma booster,) available for a very short time. I missed a lot of those because I’m more of a casual player.

It’s to be expected that not everyone will get everything every time. Part of the appeal of some of these things is how limited they are. I would rather miss out on some nice things now and then than to be guaranteed that everyone gets everything. Who wants to be just like everyone else anyways?

There are various item’s that have been removed from the game that can still be found on the trading post. (ex. training manuals)

Is it at all possible to remove these items completely? They are being sold for more than just copper or silver, but for gold. People, such as myself, I admit it, who are not aware that these items are now useless, are spending their hard earned gold on them and getting snookered by the sellers.

Please look into this!

Don’t feel bad. I’ve been holding on to an Instant Trait Reset in my bank for months now.

I can’t believe people are making such a huge deal about not getting an item that’s coming back that has nothing at all to do with game play. Looks like the instant gratification crowd is alive and well.

How can wings make such a difference to gameplay that they’re worth leaving the game over. Anyone who leaves the game over this was leaving anyway.

Taco Bell has these amazing things called Club Chalupas. They’re chicken chalupas with a special club sauce and bacon bits. They’re delicious; my favorite thing Taco Bell has ever done. Unfortunately, they’re not a permanent menu item. They come back once in a while, for a limited time only, then they’re gone. I never know when they’re going to start selling them again (if I did, I’d be planning ahead to ensure I had enough money to buy at least one every day, they’re that good.) The last time they had them, it was during a period of time where I hadn’t gone to Taco Bell for a while due to a number of different circumstances. I had no idea they were selling Club Chalupas again until my friend called me and told me he’d gotten one the day before.

Of course, I immediately rushed to my local T-Bell and ordered half a dozen Club Chalupas, only to be told that they were a limited time item and they were no longer available.

Taco Bell completely screwed me over with their limited-time-only item. I’m sorry I can’t swing by my local Taco Bell every day to check and see if they happen to have the Club Chalupas for sale. Sometimes, my wife wants Burger King; sometimes my kids want me to actually cook dinner at home.

Seriously, it makes me want to quit eating Taco Bell forever.

Everybody has the time to get ascended gear. Just gotta work on it a little every day until you get there. Now, that might take a long time, but fortunately you can do most anything in the game and be making progress toward it, as long as you’re getting money.

It sounds like your friends are too lazy to do the work and get the reward, so I don’t know why you want to do it for them. They can have ascended gear when they put in the effort to get it.

Yes true, but one is a father of a 4 year old and a soon to be father of a second child, and another is in the process of a new job, and getting married. They can play maybe a couple times a week, and we enjoy adventuring together as opposed to sitting around a crafting station. It is not so much they want ascended gear, as it is the skins. They are not lazy, they just have to prioritize their game time. My own wife personally prefers playing more than sitting down and leveling crafting.

This is not laziness so much as differences in priorities and enjoyment.

My topic was on the possibility of this, or if perhaps it is a thought for the future.

With limited time to play, there are just some things that unfortunately will just be unavailable to your friends. Even if it’s just the skins they want. The unique appearance is part of the reward of putting in the time, effort, and gold to craft it. There are a lot of skins available to casual players. I don’t see the need to make every skin available to everyone, all the time.

Also, if you did a lot of PvP in WoW am be sure you check out PvP. You can jump into structured PvP at any time/level. Everyone gets upscaled to 80 and all stats are equalized.

I like that we only have a limited number of skills available. It adds challenge and variety, forcing you make choices. Part of being a good player it’s knowing which skills to select for what you are doing at any given time. Are forced someone’s to make sacrifices, substituting damage for support, or survivability for damage.

Suggestion for Vinewrath Event (afk'rs)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Why not just have a short timeout for the map when the vinewrath event is going on? They are able to adjust this timer because being afk in WvW gets you kicked a lot quicker than some other places. If you must go afk, then it should not be a problem if you are kicked after a minute or two of inactivity, right? There is a point at which being afk becomes griefing, which is not a play style. Or at least it is not an allowed play style. :-)

I have no problem with an automated timeout. By all means, if I’m afk for an extended period, move me somewhere safe.

I am opposed to other players getting to decide when/if I get moved off map and then having game-breaking limitations imposed on me as a result.

Way to easy to exploit. 6 reports in two minutes would be zero problem to coordinate. In other words, if I decide I don’t like you, I could easily and quickly get enough reports to get you zoned out. Blocking any teleports account wide, pausing the countdown on logout is also, in my opinion, excessive.

I have kids and a young dog. Things happen sometimes that necessitate my stepping away from my computer, sometimes without the opportunity to zone or log out. What you are proposing is basically to put me in the corner for a time out because I sometimes have to do something you don’t like, and to ensure I spend the whole time thinking about what I’ve done by pausing the timer if I log out.

I run the game on an HP laptop with the Intel core i3, 6gb RAM , and integrated Intel HD graphics. With low to medium settings, I average 20-30 fps, dropping as low as 10 in high population areas/events. I still enjoy the game immensely, but appearance is not the most important factor for me.

If you have a spare guild slot open, create a new guild for yourself. Go to the guild upgrades and get enough influence to buy the 50 slot tab for 2-5gold of influence. 25gold for the 100 slot bag after all is said and done. Just be sure not to quit that guild with only yourself in it for than the guild bank gets destroyed also.

This is exactly what I did. I created a guild just for bank space, with the added bonus of being able to drop banners whenever I want to.

Your complaint about questing can be said for any MMO. In my opinion, though, the monotony is mitigated by the fact that most offer multiple ways to complete the quest, allowing for more variety from quest to quest. Experience gain is also faster than in most MMOs I’ve played, especially considering you gain experience from a wide variety of activities. Killing mobs, completing quests, skill point challenges, vistas, POIs, events, map completions, crafting, bosses, all reward experience. Personal story quests are also a great source of EXP, and help break up monotony of map exploration. Also, you can level through Edge of the Mists PvP, just not sPvP.

The game is skill-based, more so than other MMOs that are largely gear dependant; it is also cooperation dependant. Bosses are not meant to be soloed. The mechanics of boss encounters are tailored to encourage cooperative game play. This is part of the reason this game has such a great community. You are rewarded for working together, rather than punished for helping others.

RE: Poison/bleed (and other conditions)- Every profession has some condition clearing skill available to them. Use them. Part of the skill in this game comes from balancing damage skills with damage mitigation/support skills.

Classes/Depth: There are so many ways to play each individual profession. Different trait builds, skill builds, gear sets, weapon sets, etc. Your available skills, and even the basic play style, changes completely depending on which weapon/weapons you have equipped. Choosing a favorite class involves a lot more than just choosing a profession: it’s also about finding the profession/weapon/build/utility skill set that best matches your preffered style of play.

World Boses: Zergfest. No argument there.

Downscaling is, in my opinion, one of the better aspects of this game. It keeps lower-level maps from becoming ghost towns where new players feel lost and alone. It also gives incentive to help new players even when you are higher level. Even on my 80s, there is still much for me to gain by going to low-level maps. You also do keep some of the gear bonuses from your high-level gear when you downscale to a low-level map. An 80 in full exotic armor still feels powerful on lower level maps.

My suggestion is to not try and compare GW2 to other MMOs; it really is quite different. Join a guild, talk to people, experiment with different professions, weapon sets, and builds to find one you enjoy. There is so much more to this game than the usual grind to max level followed by endless gear grind.

disabling gems -> gold conversion

Never saw such topic, so don’t bite if it’s here already.
The game wouldnt be “p2w” for most people. You’d have to do everything by yourself-no shortcuts for those who “don’t have enough time to farm money for legendary”.
What do You guys think?

Experience boosters, karma boosters, gold find boosters, crafting boosters, gathering boosters, etc are all shortcuts for those who “don’t have enough time to…” For some people, skin collecting is a goal, which the gem store provides shortcuts for. Merchant express, permanent pics/axes/sickles, bank access expresses, etc are all shortcuts. None of these give any player a direct advantage over other players, just time savings.

If you want to eliminate shortcuts, you would need to eliminate the gem store altogether. Eliminating the gem store would likewise eliminate Anet’s source of continued funding, which would necessitate implementing a subscription fee if we want the servers to stay live and new content to continue coming out.

I am not a gem buyer. The few gems I’ve acquired and spent were gained through exchanging gold for gems. I know several people who buy gems and have converted them to gold in order to get their legendary weapon sooner. In no way does their taking a shortcut diminish my accomplishments. I’m about half way towards saving up mats for my legendary, and I can tell you that for me, the accomplishment will be that much more personally rewarding knowing that I did it “the hard way.”

disabling gems -> gold conversion

I see the same faulty premise time and time again, that winning is confined to one objective only. Winning it completely dependent on the goal at hand. If the goal is building a better sandcastle, then tools that help achieve such, help in winning. If the goal is to knock out an opponent, then brass knuckles help in winning. If the goal finishing an achievement, then ofc anything that aided in such helped to win. It’s very simple logic.

Well then gathering boosters, exp boosters, WvW experience boosters, crafting boosters, and karma boosters all would fall into your definition of P2W. Personally, I don’t see it that way since anyone can get these items in-game, without spending real-world cash. Anyone can get that “advantage.” The gem to gold conversion likewise does not create any mechanic or situation that a player cannot achieve in-game without spending real-world cash.

Will someone who buys gems and converts them to gold get a legendary faster than someone who farms for it? Sure. But if the goal is the achievement, their doing so takes nothing away from your crafting one on your own. In fact, if anything, it makes crafting a legendary more rewarding because you did it without a gem “shortcut.” They have won nothing, and you have lost nothing.

The primary reason I oppose ending the gem to gold exchange, though, has nothing to do with shortcuts to legendary weapons. I like it because of the fact that it gives players who cannot or will not purchase gems with cash the ability to exchange hard-earned gold into gems. Nothing in the gem store is exclusive to cash buyers. That, in my opinion, is what differentiates GW2 from other F2P games, and keeps it from being P2W.
