If you don’t have line of sight on the target, NO player or siege ability should do damage to the target. It is kind of laughable that there are people that would disagree with this.

Edit: this is discounting ‘arc’ type of abilities that are intended as such.

So that I understand this correctly… you’re advocating the Axe in PvP? And you cite a 1 second fear as meaningful (particularly since our very presence in PvP gives enemy Thieves a free 4 second fear on a 40sec CD)?

@OP… Necro can perform in WvW. A mark/well build can lock down choke points and towers rather easily. An Epidemic conditionmancer will provide the same results. Minions are useless and you’re hurting yourself if you’re using them in PvP of any sort, to include WvW (particularly with all the AoE flying around).

Aaaaaand… that’s it.

Don’t expect to go direct damage as a Necro in PvP and be taken seriously. Otherwise you’re in good shape.

Keep in mind that there are very many important WvW battles that don’t involve keeps, sieges, or big zergs.

A few other points:

-Despite the sillyness that Thieves with stealing fear, our version is actually quite powerful, especially for stomps and rezzes.

-The damaging wells are based off of power, as well as our Marks. Power Well/Staff/Dagger or Axe builds can do pretty nice AoE direct damage.

If you could get a better class when going through a dungeon, then you will avoid adding any lone necros. This has happened to me before, which is what made me realize this mess in the first place. 2 groups in a row told me they didn’t want a necro. Eventually found a group, but even so, it is really annoying to be discriminated on (using that term for this situation makes me laugh XD).

Sounds like you ran into some guys that have only played bad games and can only think that your profession matters more than the player.

DoctorWhy: My meaning is that you are merely looking at what you perceive to be a class that is best at a niche, which is likely min-maxed to get to that point.

I’m saying that focusing less on the min-max aspects of the particular professions might allow you to look beyond “condition damage”, “support”, “survival”, and “burst”, to name a few examples, and look at the entirety of the build/profession.

Basically, you equating “not the best at X” as a reason to not take a profession, ignoring that most professions and builds can and do provide much more than one little niche — at least if your not a bunch of guys that are min-maxing around one specific niche, while failing at others.

Dude, CA is 5 sec duration on a 35 sec c/d (down from 40). It only works when you get struck – something you rather want to avoid. Furthermore, in PvP it’s a huge sparkling pink bubble that screams “don’t touch that guy right now!”

So the “buff” to CA isn’t even the proverbial bone. It’s plain insult to injury.

5 seconds of an enemy deciding not to attack you is kittens huge.

I’m sure the OP is exaggerating, however the ability for us to cast iBerserker from ground level and have it spawn and hit a player out of LoS is absolutely broken and should be fixed. This isn’t the only spell like that (Necro’s Epidemic) that should all universally be fixed.

I never once said we were bad in WvW. I know there are (2) legit builds. However, I am saying that we are useless compared to what other classes can bring, because other classes can do EVERYTHING we can do, but better.

1. Engie does CC just as good, though I completely agree we do have a lot of really good CC.
2. Survivability? Guardians do it WAY better. Our health melts, even if you go into toughness (the useless and dangerous minor traits to use in WvW).
3. Again, support is done even better by an engie or mesmer
4. Yes, we do have lots of AOE damage if you go Well build. But only 1 single build does it actually work out. Until they speed up the staff projectile, the staff auto attack is useless to anyone who is paying attention.
5. DPS with dagger? Though it is our strongest weapon, dagger does not do near as much damage as I think it should, since you have to be right up in their face. But I still <3 the daggers.

Please pay attention to what I am trying to say instead of attacking me, and putting words in my mouth. I will clarify: We CAN be good, but other classes do everything better. What can we bring to the table, that other classes can’t?

You are thinking too much in terms of min-maxing.

Chill of Death, post fix

I haven’t gotten a chance to try this ability since they fixed the auto-attack slowing issue in a recent patch. Is anyone running this trait regularly, particularly in WvW?

Specifically I’m wondering if this trait works with AoE abilities, or will only trigger on your current target.

Agreed. I was mostly just pointing out that “healing power” is such a big part of several of our heal abilities, and is greatly diminished in PvE/WvW scenarios due to poor itemization.

carrion amulet, and runes i used are just for freezing enemies longer, and sigils freeze when i swap weapons

OK, though in my mind that makes it really more like a condition/wells build. The siphon from the Wells isn’t bad (though I believe not having Bloodthirst could be an issue— can’t remember if that is working correctly).

This or a very similar build would be fantastic for WvW if Shaman amulets/stats were available, but the difference between a high-healing and low-healing WoB is night and day.

Just a note: iBerserker is not bugged. There is not a single phantasm that requires line of sight to be cast. The difference between Berserker (and disenchanter and warden too btw) is that they spawn on the target rather than next to the player. This can easily be tested in the Mists. Berserker does require line of sight to execute his whirl attack of course, just like any other phantasm attack.

iBerserker will execute his whirl attack without line of sight.

No, he will run after the target if he doesn’t have line of sight to it. However, he will always have line of sight to his target when you cast him, because of his spawn behavior. The mesmer’s line of sight and the berserker’s line of sight are two different things.

Oh I see what you were saying. Basically two technically only a little bit buggy things ends up causing one actual significant bug.

What would just need to be fixed is that the iBerserker not spawn on top of the target w/o Mesmer having LoS on the target. Without LoS, it should spawn next to the Mesmer.

I still love my Necro, but the lack of in-combat mobility makes me swap to my Mesmer most nights. Very frustrating to have zero escape mechanisms. It is a shame because pre-BWE Dark Path gave the profession incredible mobility/escapability. It was pretty OP with how the class was at that time, but would be balanced with the current state of the Necro.

Significant:

1. Anything related to GS.
2. LoS on iB in particular.
3. Warden’s Feedback.
4. Feedback in general.
5. Regen on phantasms.
6. IP.
7. Mind Wrack scaling.
8. Rumored Portal nerfing.
9. Blink usability.

iB LoS is broken and should be fixed, IMHO.

Obviously the changes increased the reuse timers, nobody is going to disagree with that. I think that ANET could have been justified in doing more than they did, as it didn’t lower damage and they haven’t reduced our incredible on-use survivability.

Do you deny that c/ds of phantasms are for all practical purposes doubled?

Yes, I’m not a math wiz, but I can’t imagine a way you can come away to calculate this as doubling the c/d’s. It is like 3s increase for most of them.

Do you deny that staff is ruined to the point where it’s just a waste of a gear slot?

Laughable. 35s for CS seems pretty fair for how incredibly powerful it is. I can still keep CA on me for plenty, and the CD for iWarlock is fine.

Come on. I’ve played several MMOs and I’ve seen my share of nerfs. Serious, painful nerfs. But this… this isn’t even funny. Why don’t they just /delete the class then?

This is so barely a nerf in my eyes that I saw it and said “Oh, that is nice. Now others will think we were nerfed pretty bad when in reality is has barely any actually effect.”

Your post really appears, at first read, to be coming from someone that has basically only really played a Phantasm pet class, with a build revolving around just keeping as many alive and active, and thus neglecting shatters. This seems reinforced with your comment regarding a Duelist doing 65% of your damage.

There are certainly builds that utilize both phantasms and shatters. It just requires knowing the right time and order to summon the clones and phantasms so you get the maximum damage from the phantasms, and limiting the amount of them you shatter.

For instance, I would personally start a fight:

w/Staff- Dodge, Phase retreat, Decoy, Mind Wrack, Dodge, Mirror Images, CoF, Warlock
swap to Sword- Swordsman, Blurred Frenzy, Auto a few times until right after Warlock/Swordsman attack, Dodge, Mind Wrack, Illusionary Leap
back to Staff- dodge, Phase retreat, CoF, Warlock…etc

Also, I’d disagree with you about other classes being in the same boat. Rangers have fantastic aoe farming power. Warriors do as well with the right builds. Necros have more decent aoes than single target spells. Thief has some decent options as well with LDB, shortbow 2, and shortbow 4 (although they are closer to Mesmers in that those last two abilities take time to set up, and mobs can sometimes die before the explosions land)

My IP/Sword Mesmer can farm DEs much better than my 9-AoE-Skills Necromancer.

We do all of our damage from range, they do all theirs from up close.

You’re trolling, right? One of the strongest weapon sets for mesmers is dual swords.

Our offhand sword is ranged (as are all offhands, save the torch burning skill). And while the MH sword is melee, we are invulnerable while using the ‘main’ ability that the weapon is chosen for.

If you truly only care about “Orr DE farming”, Shatter/IP builds and Blurred Frenzy do very, very well with tagging most of the DEs. I do better with it than my Staff/Scepter/Well necro that has literally 9 different AoE damaging abilities.

However, be warned that you may get huge agro and die if you aren’t quick to react.

It seems you’re unaware of +condition durations, which I did mention in my above post. My blood marks causes bleed for 13 seconds.

There are several runes to increase the bleed duration. There’s a trait to increase bleed duration. And the power line increases condition duration.

Add the direct damage from blood mark too (albeit it’s not much) and it’s not difficult to get the damage to be over 4k.

Post your build or its not happening. So go full condition damage and full spite that tops out mark of blood at 3.8k. Now why you would go spite, no one will ever know but ok.

And yes I understand what condition duration means. Too bad you don’t. Duration is crap in pvp. Unless your playing scrubs it will never last that long.

Still don’t see how your getting it to last that long. Even with armor runes it does not get to 13 seconds. And like some one stated they don’t all stack.

You only need 50% condition duration to get MoB up to 12 seconds, which will top 4200 bleeding damage. You can do that fairly easily with 0 points into Spite.

Additionally, I am not sure this if this is a l33t tPvP thread or not, but conditions go the full duration in WvW pretty often.

No One will ever compete with HoD as it stands, it is impossible, they have too many, basically all the ‘over night’ players/guilds. But really yheyre only effecting the top echelon of the PvP pyramid. The WvW problems run much deeper.

SBI is a good server, maybe the most organized. And if we were matched with any other servers we would blow them out too just like HoD does everyone, because it is about numbers.

I now dub you StormTear Eyesle. SBI has talent and some great WvW guilds but from my perspective as an opponent I note the following .

1. Using HoD’s 24/7 presence as an excuse for not competing – So you got excited having a point lead going into the week only to tear up when the HoD juggernaut went full force on Tuesday. So rather than man up the entire server cried foul. I would be embarrassed if I played on SBI.

2. Beating your chest as the “2nd” best server- StormTears forgets how many times JQ has kittened slapped your kitten going back to BWE. All the chest thumping and crotch rubbing for being “second” place. Grats on that second place. It is first place loser. 3. Using WM/Evil as a crutch-StormTear Eyesle is carried by WM/Evil. Dont be surprised when they drop your kitten for another server more appreciative.

SBI has great potential and I personally hope you continue to be a challenge for months to come but in my opinion StormTear Eyesle needed to be humbled.

Bottom line: Those people who used it as a huge life force filler will call it a nurf despite the huge damage increase it provides. Condition Necromancers do have a hard time building life force yes but you shouldn’t be relying on one skill to build it all the time anyway.

Its a buff and quite a big one in my opinion, why?

How is it a “huge damage increase”? You guys keep saying this and have nothing to back it up. While i Give you the exact amount of damage it increases for a condition damage.

Its like 15-16% for 12-14 seconds, on a 24-30s cooldown. And that is just counting the bleeding damage, not what you’d be getting from several abilities that rely on power (FoC, PM, LB).

I think its pretty accurate to call it a 10% overall damage increase for my 0-30-20-0-20 spec.

It doesn’t provide any more damage for me, it would just let me get to max stacks of Might slightly faster (if I would actually use it now, which I won’t). The LF was better for me, period. If this is the only way you have to get Might, then you’re under-utilizing Might.

Alternatively, you could use the new BiP and change your Sigil setup to something different, keeping the might buffs in your build and getting additional damage from a different sigil.

Mine lasts 14s, and on a 24s cooldown, so 8.7% before you account for the 350 might that will also be helping — which noticeably helps out FoC and PM, and to a lesser extent GD and NG.

You mention in the last post that Hemophilia doesn’t stack with Lingering Curses, but Lingering curses increases all the conditions you apply with your scepter not just your bleeds. Wouldn’t it still be worth it to apply longer duration Vulnerability/blinds etc?

We don’t have Vulnerability or Blind on the Scepter, only Bleed and Cripple.

You know whats awesome? Almost capturing a keep while undermanned, only to have JQ be a bro and defend the HoD garrison.

But if JQ let you have the keep I’d have to come on here and cry about being 2v1’d

If JQ weren’t there it would have been 1v1.

@HOD/SBI on Blue BL: Good fight at garrison tonight. I don’t think there has been a battle on the garrison with all 3 teams fighting at the same time ever. A couple times JQ/SBI breached inner gates at the same time on different sides and had a nice 3-way. Props to HoD for defending successfully. At the time of this post the battle is still ongoing but I have to go to sleep.

The # of people they have inside that Garrison is laughable, while still having plenty to defend AH.
