The actual truth about the new gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

beren.6048

It’s still a sign of the beginning of bigger future gear changes, to think this is the only time this will happen now is foolish.Anet have set a new precedence now, this is just the beginning.

It is only the beginning, they stated that all types of gear will be ascend (correct me if I am wrong). I don’t care about collecting for gear, my problem is more that you have to do a number of these mini-dungeons in 1 night to gain the level. You need people who are prepared to stay 2 to 3 hours to do the 3 dungeons AND then also at some point they ll need gear. People will be excluded based on their level and gear and progression will come to a halt for the initially slow or the new people.

Mini-dungeons, really mini

1h OR 30 minutes. And so you agree, to do all three such that you gain the level takes about 2 hours or 3 if you don’t know what to do (reread the last paragraph).

2 hours of continues play is not mini and all I suggest is for people to be able to do 1 of the 3 dungeons lets say on Monday and the other 2 on Friday and still gain the level. This will help people who feel like doing something little while they have to go to work early on Tuesday.

Additional, this will take the edge of for people who are new to the game and cannot find anyone to do level 1 (or level 2) dungeon for 2 hours.

This is a bit a question and a suggestion in one:
The question: is it true that you have to do all 3 mini-dungeons in 1 instance to level your fractal level?

Suggestion: because people tell me yes, I suggest the following: keep the score such that you can do a mini-dungeon for 1h or 30 min and then go sleep, eat, watch movie w/e. When you complete the next day the other 2 then you level.

The dungeons took us 2 to 3 hours to complete and that is not mini. Not something you can quickly do when you don’t have that much time or when you don’t want to spend that much time on the game.

Hello, yesterdays event was great. Had great fun. Though I had 3 main concerns that I suggest you to change next time:
1. I fell in the lava pit which I didn’t see because of the camera zooming in auto and because of the boss being so big. I had to choose, stay death or quickly return from waypoint (nobody could reach me to res me). I choose the waypoint and missed the end movie.
- Primary: show a popup asking: “You participated in the epic one time event, you want to see the movie?” When you say yes then you show the movie as long as you are in the area. The complete area, just like you can pull people of your party into the story.
- Secondary: Please add a waypoint more close to the even location
2. When you do an epic event please announce the waypoint. We had to know from the gossip circuit where the event would happen. Put a point of interest or waypoint on your website next time.
3. Like a mad man I was reviving and healing, but still in some parts I got silver because I probably didnt hit the boss enough or I was hold back from the event circle by the boss or his minions. Maybe give also participation points if you revive in the area and make the event area around the boss or make it reset to his event area spot (the orange circle).

Ok lets leave it at that. If Anet really goes down the slippery road of gear grind then they don’t do it because the power players or the rush players are so vocal. They do it because it is the easiest way to keep people wanting for more (easiest, not the best). Either your content is hard to get or your content is a lot.

Locusts are numerous and if he says they are 1% then that is not locusts.

It’s an apt description of their behavior though. They come, they consume everything they can, then they move on, leaving empty fields behind them.

The description is not so great, but hey that’s IMO. You see they do things to achieve power with total disregard for lore or content and many times they are the ones who close the light when the party is over. They don’t move on like locusts, that is the point. If their is power play then they ll stay until there is only 1 guild / alliance left on the server and all casuals or dedicated players have jumped ship unable to compete with the “pros” in the gear grind.

In short:
1. they don’t even consume 10% of the content and try to take short cuts to positions of power, locusts would consume everything.
2. they don’t leave, they stay as long as their is some group of casuals or dedicates to overpower
3. he says 1% I say 30% of MMOers is like that (if not more)

That said, I don’t dislike the pros, the casuals, or the people who go through all content. Comparing people with insects is only to show hatred for the other play styles.

Perhaps they should have made the content a bit more difficult.

Thanks! I had wanted to say something similar about how some people get huffy over the term “content locusts”. I find it a very apt and accurate term, describing exactly the what’s-up in just one simple compound word. I guess what the people who are offended at the term need to do is realize that the content locusts aren’t actually being called insects, just their actions are being compared to the actions of a member of the Acrididae family.

Lets not joke each other, the author clearly holds hatered against these people.

Content locusts is not the proper definition, the definition should be “power players”. Locusts are numerous and if he says they are 1% then that is not locusts. Power players don’t play for the content, they play for the power. The goal outweights the means is their motto. They level with the goal to be wealthy and powerful and their opinion carries weight with the MMO Company because very often they are leaders and officers of top guilds.

Well of course posts get deleted if people are compared with plagues. Not so strange. People can play the way they want. That Anet targets 1 customer group or the other is their problem. What is the problem with someone completing a game and play the next? This whole update is not even there yet and people are already raging.

The piece carries quit a lot of hate and nobody deserves to be compared with an insect. I disagree with a number of things he says.

He says 1%, why he thinks so little? He says their opinion carries weight. I don’t see, why? Carries weight with who? I am “casual” and I care next to nothing for their opinion. Nobody reads all quest text, that is 1 of the thing so great about GW2 (there is simply very little reading).

In his definition there is no difference between the locust and the hardcore gamer, probably the one are some of his friends and the others are the rest.

Also, in games with gear progression it pays to do the dungeon first and to level fast. Simply because if you are able to obtain the best grade first then you earn must more until the average players catches up and floods the market.

Is Ascended gear better than Exotic gear for WvWvW?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

beren.6048

The real Million Dollar Question is “Will they make another tier with better stats than Ascended?”

If no, then we have nothing to worry about.
If yes, then we have a problem.

They have the wildcard of “Legendaries will be always as strong as the most powerful gear”, so yeah, in theory they can make unlimited tiers between ascended and legendary and keep scaling legends.

For now it scales, will it always scale? Or when they make new areas these get their own legendaries with better stats. Not saying this will happen, but have they absolutely guaranteed legendary will always be the best weapon or only this time.

Will more powerful gear make you play more?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

beren.6048

I expect it will make no difference to me. I ll keep playing. Three main reasons:
1. I want the new content
2. PvP and PvE are seperated and super gear will not bother me much.
3. Exotic armor was really easy to obtain, so I am not a sad panda.

Other than that, many details are unknown. Maybe exotic will be better in PvP because of the runes. In that case you ll need both gear sets and you ll need extra warehouse space

Crapgame.6519 yes eventually they will add all the parts…that’s what…24 stats above exotics? I really dont think that will make anyone OP in wvwvw…
Or even better than the avg joe in exotics doing a dungeon. The infusions on the other hand were purposefully put in to gate people in the new dungeon, i would be more worried about that.

Yes, infusion is more worrying because you will have difficulty finding a party if your armor is infused below average. Would you wan’t to take someone with only exotic if it means you ll not make it to the end, guaranteed? Only friends.

This is taking angry mob proportions. Thinking it is probably just Ninja it and not announce anything. Think it is slight out of control, given the very little information that is given we can’t say much. On exotic armor I am able to put runes, if I cant put runes on these sets then maybe it worse. E.g., the fury and might that rune of pack can give is more important.

The stats increase is not as much a problem as that if you don’t have infusion sufficiently then you won’t be able to get far enough in the dungeon. The danger is that if you lack behind and future parties will demand specific gear which you can’t achieve because there are no parties to go with, a circle. We will see if this happens with this system.

I hope there will be alternative ways to get this gear other than grinding dungeons.
I don’t mind paying real money for it, I can understand that companies need to make money to survive, and GW2 is a fun game that I want to support.
I can see myself grinding for some of the gear, and buy the rest of it for for gems or something.

I don’t have time to – or want to grind dungeons forever.

It says something about mystic forge and maybe you don’t need to grind. Maybe it will drop like green and blue stuff in the current dungeons. Maybe maybe, we don’t know until we try.

Are we a PVP game or a PVE game really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: beren.6048

beren.6048

In a way we are in a PvE game. Meaning, the strong point of GW2 is its PvE envirnoment. In PvP a lot of people search is what I call power political pvp where guilds struggle to own everything on the server and where guilds fight until guild death and only 1 big guild remains. This kind of PvP will never really be in GW2 I believe, it never was there on GW1 as far as I know and it is the reason why lots of people choose this game.

“pic monsters and gear skins, that are only unlocked through control in WvWvW …”

This is exactly power political pvp. I am completely against this elitism. This will mean only specific people can do all content while we paid the same price.

If you tell me, give them a PvE fort that gives you buffs and can be contested 1 time a week, that would be more reasonable.

Chances are, Ascended gear can be used in WvW like any other piece of PvE gear. Of course, they could very well make it so it’s not – we do not know yet.

Not is unlikely, since you can’t be keeping a special exotic gear for WvW. Yes, much is unknown and people just have to try and see.

There is no other way to make a MMO other than using the treadmill. Theres no progression without a treadmill… How do you guys not see that, how can sitting in the same gear since you turned level 80, and downing bosses that don’t vary in toughness be fun!?

Gear progression is not bad as long as it doesn’t make you unbeatable in pvp. The stats I see on the rings are more than a little better, but ok. A game can also have new story content and the gear can be part of this, but it shouldn’t be the only thing.

….
I know that also, but what happened of the 3 biggest WvW Guilds that represents thousands of WvW Players…. It’s causing an huge negative impact in our server, and guilds thinking in leave, really all the big guildd are thinking in that, and if that happens, without commanders and organizations, what will save WvW in our server?

Like this server transfer will be ruined for all of us (meaning it will become a paid service earlier), that 1st of all.

And 2nd I never understood, but it seems to be human nature. In most MMOs you will end up with 1 or 2 massive guilds because people always want to be part of the “winners” (even though they didn’t make the guild a winner). And what you end up with is lots of boredom because there is no one to fight back.

Think with the balancing the GW2 design is superior to the traditional design and eventually you ll fight servers more your strength.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t think this is imbalance. My guardian dies more than my elementalist. Both classes play very differently – eles should not be standing still when killing mobs.

Well because a guardian has the same HP pool. Only his heavy armor and healing skills safe him. Its really strange how a soldier class has so little HP.

Don’t think there is much of a imbalance really, each class has a weakness. The elementalist seems to go down a lot though. But they hit really hard. Perhaps check your stats and put some more toughness and vit.

What turns me down from WvW is the fact that you die like nothing and armor repair is costly. But its not a biggy, I mostly didn’t feel like WvW, I do more sPvP. Yes, because sPvP costs me nothing but some time.

Also, in this game I don’t even have a good overview of the guilds on the server, let alone know where to find the name of the GL. You knew the GL from before? Really a lot of effort. Like the idea, the rewards need to be different and of less quality. Imo, better addition would be dungeons that can be done in less time (1h absolute max) that have an armor set & weapon set of their own. Make it rare or master, not exotic.

Why? During the week I work and I can’t spend 2h-3h in a dungeon. Also, you depend on randoms sometimes and they just stop in-between or they are so novice that you can’t make it, so….that means only blue items for mobs that are way more hard than the mobs in Orr who drop loads of master and rare items.

I believe it has 3 reasons.
1. The game is very big and it requires massive amounts of people to seem filled

3. “Full” probably means the number of accounts allowed on the server has been reached. There is no sub and so people will not feel obliged to be active.

currently in EB there are 3+ players creating arrowcarts and balistas at the end room of the puzzle killing players so they cant complete it.

Why is this allowed? Why is this encouraged?

First, I don’t really go to WvW much. Imo they should not have situations where you can’t fight them. Part of this puzzle is PvP and you should call upon you guild to take these people out.

however it should be possible for a guild to take these people out, if there is a kinda exploit situation where people can not be targeted then the jumping puzzle is kinda broken.

(represent) I prefer to represent only 1 guild, but I don’t agree with the represent only 1 rule. What do you provide for potential guild members? WvW parties? Dungeon runs? sPvP tournements? Worry about organizing this first and then see.

Rather, there need to be more activities that should be done with guild members such that guilds can give incentive to people to represent. And why do you allow people to curse you? I really would just kick him w/e. Trying to keep such people is just bad for the guild.

Why Orr brings out the worst in the "community"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: beren.6048

beren.6048

In all areas I would stop and help, but in Orr, when you stop running you ll just die and pay 3 silver as a fine (waypoint + armor repair). Especially the first parts of Orr are too much. There is no safe place and you ll die many times exploring it. I prefer cursed shore and the place before that. Slightly less mobs and a couple more fortresses.

The problem is that many ‘safe’ places are actually not safe at all, many times they are overrun with events happening and you ll come back to a death character. Best thing you can do is relog or go to the mist.

Anyway, the core of my bla is that you can’t stop to help people because 2 mobs become 3,4,…8, …. too much quickly. You can’t resurrect people, because the stream of mobs will get you killed. How many times I got killed myself resing people. Only downed I try to rescue.
