So... When are Guild Wars coming?

GW1 had GvG instance, but somewhere I seen Anet (Colin) state that 5v5 pvp is like a guild war. Once they bring guild halls perhaps they bring this feature. Open-world GvG I don’t think it will ever come. They are very strict on not having any form of direct competition on the server. Recently they state that they are not strictly against showing names in WvW, but they have issues with it. If that is an issue, you really think they ll ever make something so direct in the face as Open world GvG?

Thanks I didnt have sound in part 2 so this is useful. It seems ele are going to be nerfed and thiefs boosted. The thief I don’t really understand. They are already really deadly.

The last note in the summary I didnt understand. Why is it bad to attack someone rezing? Of course you want to prevent rezing, how should you kill anyone?

AoE is a logical consequence of the real problem, zerging. Almost any strategy is beaten by overwhelming numbers. The top servers will always stay top because if weapon technology is equal then numbers becomes most important.

Think they don’t need to nerf AoE at all. It will still be boring zerg against zerg with the difference that now a smaller force can’t slow down and AoE to defeat the zerg. It will all be even more boring.

Instead of nerfing AoE damage maybe make the damage not stacking. Now I get hit by 10 AoEs at the same time. Thats the only valid nerf I imagine.

Guardian will not be nerfed. This nerf will benefit them.

If they bring down aoe damage across the board then there are a number of skills with aoe damage. Tomb of Wrath e.g. In general I get what your pointing at. Compared to an ele the loss will be minor. The ele is weak and designed for aoe damage. Nerfing aoe accross the board will destroy the ele.

What am I missing? My guardian does 250 damage per tick, I don’t consider that an overpowered skill, what’s going on?

Yeah wonder that also. A guardian is already low on damage. Is the nerfing going to be all round for all skills? Or for the guardian less than e.g., for ele

It seems Anet starts falling for the classic mistake. Nerf 1 profession to usefullness 0 and then everyone will start playing the next profession that is OP. Predict that we will be seeing Warriors everywhere and more Thiefs.

Its not what i’m unable to grasp. Its that you cant accept that you aren’t entitled to selfishly dictate people to doing what you want. Your idea is bad and a waste of time better spent fixing real issues of the game. If you disagree feel free to report me and start a thread about how you cant mute people on the forums.

Reporting people without a good reason or for the wrong reasons maybe will get you in trouble with the GM as well.

how about you play an ele instead of a thief.

The thief should seek out the ele and take him down. Ele has strengths but his weakness is if he is directly attacked by close combat.

this is superior strategy and luck. As was said, if the warriors do their job they could rush them and take them down. The tortoise tactic would have easily taken them down. The otherside is just a mindless zerg w/o communication.

Also, here is a team who wins with smart stuff and everybody now says that the zerg should win. What happend to “WvW is so boring its only zerging”

Also, what is spam? Imo it is advertisement involving something illegal like RMT. Otherwise LFG would also be spam & guild advertising themselves is also spam.

Imo they would have mentioned these things if they ll be made (guild housing) with screenshots and lots of PR. Its a big thing and that they don’t mention it probably is more significant.

If you read carefully "Allowing players to share experiences in an open world where other players are seen as helpful, rather than competition, is a huge component of what makes our game what it is. "

Ofc this is all kinda vague and could mean many things, but I won’t put my bet on open world GvG and since they probably won’t bring Guild Halls anytime soon, I don’t think instance based GvG will happen anytime soon either.

You didnt pay for event. It was free, nobody forced you to do it. Why complain.

1st GW2 is not F2P, every single player paid about 50 euro. Thats is about 3 million times 50. That is some nice money. Then you don’t know how much gems the OP bought, so you don’t really know if he paid for the event or not. Maybe he paid for you doing the event, could well be.

MMOs are business, no body does anything for free.

Paid Transfers is not such a good idea. Why not just not allow people who transfer servers to play in WvW for one week. This would stop people from transferring for WvW purposes.

It means money for the company and share holders….that’s why.

This isn’t some new evil plot to make more money. This was the way it was in Beta and as it was always planned to be. They have been very kind and allowed free transfers for significantly longer then they originally planned. From what I remember the original plan was to stop free transfers 1 month after launch.

If it works like it did in beta, which I suspect it will, it will be cheap (~100 gems) to transfer to a low ranked world. It will be so-so (~400 gems) to transfer to a medium ranked and it will be very expensive (~1000 gems) to transfer to a high ranked world.

And you get those gems how? Too, I don’t see it as a new evil plot at all, just them trying to earn some money on the game. I do hower wish that they would be more honest and upfront about this fact than what is currently the truth of the matter…..

Too, this could become a problem in the way of a “Pay2Win” situation, in that if you got the cash/gems, you can always transfer to the winning servers, while those that do not are left behind…not a very good way of balancing, but good income for the company and its share holders, right?

Well you can always obtain these gems by playing for it (gold to gems). Unfortunately it is necessary. 1 week of no WvW? thats really a little. In the current situation whole guilds transfer to the top servers.

8. Profession specific armor (new)

Profession specific or this is a box that fits your specific class, like warrior and guardian box will both contain heavy but the guardian box will contain only weapons a guardian can wear like a scepter. Probably it is profession specific, but it doesn’t state anywhere clearly I think.

That is just what I saw from reading it once and then closing it. I’m sure if I read back through it I could find some more details in there as well.

They are strongly against server level competition, which means that some kinds of direct competition is out.

Well with the first text he states that they don’t want players to work against each other and only help each other. From this I take that instance based GvG as in GW1 will not be a feature in GW2. Only guild dungeons. Hope guild level pvp will be a feature, but I won’t hold my breath.

I also don’t see anything about guild housing and some kind of guild activity to obtain it. Think that if this would come any time soon it would be mentioned specifically.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exploit Just saying. It’s just sad to see so many loopholes in the system, and as a software engineer, i can say for sure, that fixing / detecting most of them would require only little effort.

Detecting non-cheating bots is actually more complicated as hey act very much like real players and the differences are very subtile, even though there are many and every human could spot them.

Interesting, they have it in their own wiki. Look, after being surprised our own keep I logged out of WvW immediately. That kind of cheating is too much.

A system should easily detect that someone is flying through the air what ever. How can the client decide where the character logged out anyway. Shouldn’t that be stored server side?

Seen many 3rd party misuse going on in MMOs, mainly botting. But it seems right now GW2 has a big problem security wise. I discovered this when I was in the inner part of a keep in WvW and they managed to fly over the walls and put a 50+ zerg inside the keep without taking down nor the outer wall nor the inner wall. You say mesmer, but the alliance checked all cracks for mesmer when we took it. So, I wouldn’t believe it either when it didn’t happen almost right infront of me. No swords, no contested status. 1 min they where on the outer wall, the other minute they took the keep.

Botting is one, hacking the system and doing things that a normal user can’t do is a whole other thing.

What makes me laugh the most about this Ascended stuff is that players are complaining about it’s implementation, yet majority run the dungeon (Fractals of the Mist, a.k.a. FotM) to get it.

This is such an oxymoron.

People are annoyed at it and IMO this has inadvertently caused other problems (DR, RNG, etc.). Many players are frustrated and the longer this goes on the worse ANet image will become.

Imo people are not leaving because of fractals. Most MMOers like getting stuff with better stats & looks. People stop because it all becomes boring for different reasons.

In general, Anet is a big company who can handle themselves. All MMOs have complains on their forum. It is often the only way to get problems across. The moderators are also taking out the complainers because of complaining. This forums moderators work the fastest I have ever seen.

GW2 and trinity: healthy discussion

I personally can’t wait for the players who would insult anyone who perfers the trinity as “unskilled.” I dare you to go up to a top 100 WoW raiding guild and say that.

Many discussions start with the statement that not having the trinity requires no skill. Neither, imo, is true. Monsters and raids with lacking game mechanics lead to “unskilled” boring boss zerging independent of the trinity.

I am yet waiting for a good argument why formal roles is more interesting than emerging roles. I can again name all the disadvantages of the trinity and I tell you how not having the trinity is so core to the design of GW2 that people can jump up and down and dance beautifully like an Asura, this game will not have the trinity.

One of our goals for 2013 will be evaluating all of the bosses and creatures in the game, from open world to dungeons, to try and make them more exciting and fun to fight against.

In general if anything has a really high health pool, it needs to have unique abilities to make it exciting for the entire time, or actually change abilities/tactics as it goes down in health to ensure it stays fun and exciting to fight against.

We realize there are a number of bosses in the game, from the open world to instances that all can be more fun to fight than they are now. We’ll be tackling that this year in part of our goal to make our core game as strong as possible.

The bosses should scale some how to the number of people and the reward should be worth it.

Probably if enough people play on the test server you will get the same problems. 10 devs playing a test server (locally also) is probably not enough to, e.g., get enough lag to get all sorts of issues.

I miss actually playing a healer role...

Let me disagree. In most games the healer targets the person in need of healing and press his skill. In Tera the priest needs to ground target the person in need of healing just like ground target skills in GW2. People are running and jumping around and ground target based healing is much more difficult because of it. So very often people see a circle and jump out of it. Ofc a good player sees the difference between a healing circle and a damage circle quickly. But the healer will still take the blame, as always. Not enough players want to play this essential class as an consequence. Good healers get still so much cursing that they reroll etc. etc.

Never actually played a healer in Tera, have you… I played both mystic and priest. The primary heal skill is a lock-on, ground targeted skills are hp/mp toppers. A party’s survival doesn’t rely on those. And a thing about good healers. We tend to get good parties that appreciate us instead of blaming us. The last time I was blamed by smb…he was a pug who replaced our mia slayer. The very second he called me “noob mystic”, a kick pop-up appeared and as soon as I confirmed, he was out. Good parties don’t let anybody abuse their healer. If a healer is getting cursed at all the time and there is nobody willing to defend them…that healer ain’t good. In 9Dragons we griefed a guild into disbanding because their leader insulted one of our healers.

The mystic has better lock on skills, the priests heals consist mostly out of ground targeting. The last time I played Tera his lock on (priest) skill was inadequate as you get closer to max level. I don’t play Tera because of fees and because questing was annoyingly boring, not because of the healer/trinity. But enuf discussion about the competition, don’t you think

I don’t miss whole guilds cancelling guild activities because the healers didn’t feel like playing. I don’t miss waiting around for hours for 1 healer. I don’t miss guilds outfitting healers who leave the guild right after. I don’t miss being forced to play healer because nobody wants to play it. And last, I don’t miss failing because the healer doesn’t know his skills.

replace healer with tank and you know what I don’t miss about tanks.

That’s great. And 1999 called to apologize.

Those of us living in current day reality didn’t/don’t have those problems. Most current-day MMOs have LFG/dungeon-finding systems that put together groups nearly instantly. Even WoW, the one that people keep quoting as the bane of the ‘trinity’ system will get you into a dungeon within a minute or two. Yes, even if you are a dps class.

To even think of what you are talking about, I have to go back to the beginning of the WoW-era and think about what it was like before they added dungeon-finder with cross-realm support. Heck, they even have a raid-finder system to get you into a raid within a matter of minutes.

And, even going all the way back to the first year of WoW, if my guild couldn’t field enough healers/dps/tanks(usually it was a lack of dps), then we simply brought in some random folks to fill the gaps. Problem solved. And this was back in the day of 40-man dungeons with NO LFG tool whatsoever. All they would have to do is throw in a cross-world dungeon tool and you’d get a group pretty darn quick regardless of your setup.

Never played WoW. WoW is pretty unique in that their player base is so huge that they can support the trinity and the problem that most people play DDs.

In any case, there is a healer: guardian with staff. However there is no healer that can keep you alive no matter what crazy stuff you do. And the problem is not the trinity (imo), it is boss mechanics lacking imagination, boss zerging and no epic boss instances.

Imho Orr is annoying and ugly. But, nowadays (guardian) I don’t die. Trick is anticipating when to dodge, keeping your health skills for the moment when needed and I have a shout with a 30s cooldown that makes them unable to nock me down. Stun is not so much a problem as the pulling, chaining and nock downs.

I believe they want us to party up and they didn’t want running. However with constant contested waypoints & the fact that almost everyone solos this game makes it that things are not like the devs imagined.

Tera? The tera healer doesn’t need to be just good, he needs to be epic. The ground targeting is just awful, the healer needs super human capabilities to anticipate because DDs jump out of the heal circles instinctively.

That made me lol. Ground targeting is awful? As opposed to…ground targeting in any other game? There is nothing particularly hard to being a healer in Tera compared to other games. If anything, it’s a whole lot easier, because the rest of the party can actively pitch in and take the load off the healer. As for anticipation….let me introduce you to the circle of good players where healing is the last thing you do(only if you are bored and don’t want to forget what keys you bound those skills to).

I’d argue that you’re still somewhat sidelined by the ability of other players to heal themselves and their reduced reliance on a traditional healer.

This i am totally understand.

In trinity MMO, i tried all different roles, it looks like i automaticially gain respect when i suit up as tank and healer. No matter how hard i played my dps class is treated like pawn.

In GW2, finally i felt classes are almost treated equally, not feeling any hero because of my class. Instead, i am still able to make myself hero in dungeon run, especially my skill, my heal, my interrupt, my condition removal, my team support is what makes me a hero, not my class anymore.

To tell the truth, i enjoy MMO this way.

People would choose healer to get a party fast, not because they want to play healer.

In general, I have no problem that people enjoy the healer role but it doesn’t work. Too little people like the pressure of being the one that can’t make a mistake. The consequence is endless waiting and all the other things I already said.

I do NOT miss the trinity, nor do I want it back.
I do not find the game boring. I enjoy the fact that a bunch of people, no matter their profession or playstyle can work together to complete an event.
I understand, that some people want to feel “needed” and the trinity gameplay feeds into that. But the trinity of other games is no more “skillful” than this game.

I think you really need to stop generilising and try Tera if you think a trinity game requires no skill as you put it. The problem is when everyone on this website refers to the trinity what they are really referring to is “in WOW” because that’s the only other game people play.

I also miss healing, I miss actual damage migration and support, I loved in games like rift being a support helping others is what I do! Here as a guardian I can’t really do that, damage migration in this game is done through how much you heal rather than how much armor or migration skills you have because mobs can pretty much 1 or 2 shot you regardless. So damage migration is almost impossible for a long period of time because of 30 to 60 second healing skill cooldowns and a dodge mechanic which makes you stand there like a chicken after 2 dodges.

You’ve basically got to survive until the mob chooses another target because if a mob wanted to kill you it could easily do so and force you to burst through all your heals until your downed.

He says no more skill(ful). In the trinity 70% of your success depends on the healer being good, 29% on the tank and 1% the rest. Tera? The tera healer doesn’t need to be just good, he needs to be epic. The ground targeting is just awful, the healer needs super human capabilities to anticipate because DDs jump out of the heal circles instinctively.

Trinity games lean completely on the healer / tank, the rest can just sit back and hold the fire button. That is really not interesting either.

Then Gw1 was definitely not a trinity game, but still worked well.

Not sure what you say. I say that no trinity works just fine, in fact the trinity leads to a lot of needless waiting.

They have stated they have a person managing the ingame economy. It has been a while ago, so I a link will be hard to find. But I imagine that this person looks a the TP and adjusts drop rate such that overpriced items lower in price. That is not really a bad thing I guess.

Jan/Feb patches: Make or break time?

Right now the game won’t break, the influx of new players is really huge. There is not much good competition. It feels to me that there is low customer retention, many people stopped in the first weeks.

Break points for me would probably be: more 3 hour+ dungeons with unique superior rewards that requires grinding, no real improvement of WvW & lack of goals, no improvement of things to do for guilds.

I am still an optimist and I expect to be surprised in a good way. I fear however too much focus on sPvP minigames and push for paid tournaments (eSport) and just some minor map (WvW & PvE) additions.

5 months in, what do you do while in game?

Kinda lost interest, waiting for the new update and hoping for more guild things to do. Last weeks I was doing mostly crafting and WvW. WvW has no goal and the epicness of the fights is fun 1, 2, 3 times but then you seen it all and there is no lasting goal.

Yesterday done some collecting for powerful blood in order to make 1 more weapon, but it was not very exciting. Thats it. Think it all depends on the update and if I am going to be pleasantly surprised. Maybe I just need a break to get back the feeling of excitement.

There is nothing wrong with TP, its quit a good TP. Imo, the fees are too high. Also, anything less than rare has become garbage. However this is a drop issue and not a TP issue.

Games improve because of positive feedback, too, because then the developers know what they’re doing right. A game should have gushing fans, that means that they are connecting with their players.

(And it means that they can gauge who likes what they’re doing, as opposed to the ‘endgame sux this game is dying need moar raids’ crowd.) And I think that it bothers that crowd that people DO like how GW is going so far overall, because they feel that it undermines their complaints.

The game is not helped with overly positive comments nor with overly negative. In the first case the developer / manager will falsely think that all is well while, e.g., retaining customers is perhaps a problem. Overly negative is not good either as dev teams loose motivation and stops listening to valid constructive suggestions for improvements.

Honestly if you want large group based content in GW2 that should be your avenue of attack. Because raids are highly unlikely and entirely polar to the games design, but dynamic events are what the world pve is all about.

the issue with DEs is that no formal group is needed, no communication is needed and as result it is very difficult to have DEs that need a strategy. The current DEs I know are all zergfests. If you have instance based epic RBs then you can control the size of the raid group such that zerging the RB becomes impossible and tactics need to be developed to bring the boss down. Also, guilds become more useful as they provide a platform of skilled members with communication and coordination.

Two cliches: history will proof who is more right and the truth lays in the middle.

The really negative and the exceptionally positive threads are so very often removed by the moderator. Many times I start my reaction and the thread is already deleted in the mean time.

I must say of my friends most don’t play or play very little. Maybe GW2 is not matching with me or the crowed I hang out with. Maybe there is a problem. Imo, there is a problem with guilds, the famous “solo game where people play next to each other”. The game doesn’t suck, the story is really nice and the pre-80 environment is really lively. As it is right now, however, the game doesn’t keep its players well enough. History will proof if this is a (game breaking) problem.

Did all 5 starter zones with my thief to try to get them upgraded equipment, now doing lvl15-25 zone as lvl30 and paying huge repair bills cause my armour and weapons still bad for the zone level:(

How ever I did pick up some level appropriate stuff, just not for my class

if I level characters of this level I don’t repair. I just wait until I drop something to replace the broken piece. Also invest first in good jewelry & weapons, these don’t break.
