I really dislike this character. What could make him better? An option to turn trahearne over to zaithan. Many lives can be spared when trahearne talks the dragon into a ethernal sleep of boredom. Honestly, a character with humor would have been better. But I don’t know why he even exists, why can’t the player be the general. I don’t understand why they choose to make this empty character. Must have some kind of technical reason.
fractal weapon? as far as I know there are no ascend weapons yet.
- Short & Epic dungeons played with 20+ players
- More thing to do that requires guilds, e.g., GvG
- Guild halls
- Castles useable as a guild hall, located on the PvE map and obtained doing a weekly GvG battle.
- Capes and /or visible guild icons
- Visible titles
Expectation? None of the above. Probably we’ll see some new sPvP and WvW maps.
…. What makes me wince more than anything is seeing this forum plagued by individuals who cant seem to have fun unless they are ePWNing something, or someone else. It shows the flaws within our modern western society and the reason we are all fatalist capitalists. The inherent competitive desire to not only be better than everyone else, but the ridiculous desire to show EVERYONE you can how much better you are. The biggest problem is that most MMOs only allow a few individuals that right, while GW2 allows most people to achieve that level (within PVE anyway). This creates a massive rift within the games population and exaggerates both sides opinion…
Competition and fighting “your enemy” is the core of PvP and not at all something western as most of the most hard core PvP games are made in Asia, e.g., Korea. To show that you better has been in games ever since Pac Mans highscore overview.
GW2 did a very nice seperation of PVE and PVP, no more ganking and bullying. The discussion here is end game and if PvP is your endgame then I say the endgame in most games is the competition between people and guilds to be the highest scorer. The most kills, achieving a guild hall in GvG war to be proud of etc. etc. PvP activities that make your guild proud w/e.

The “Alt+F4 is no escape” I don’t like at all. Why? Well very often I have an DC and especially when a big zerg vs zerg fight breaks out. Now I find my self death while I could have escaped. If the game is not bug free and DCs constantly then this is not a nice feature at all.
If you dc very often it isn’t the game at fault but your connection or hardware. I have dcd maybe twice since the game came out. F4 is good as it is…
Or maybe it happens because of bugs and bad programming and so very often I have seen MMOs slowly becoming more and more stable. You maybe have another video card that is better supported or maybe you have a 64 bits system (the game seems to run better on 64bits). Or maybe you have more RAM and if there is a memory leak it doesn’t occur fast enough for you. My system meets more than the minimum requirements and there is nothing wrong with the connection, because other MMOs run just fine with the highest graphics quality. DCs happen a lot and not only with me, multiple DCs in the guild are very normal.
They know a DC happened because they give a report to Anet dialog box, at the very least they shouldn’t “kill” a character if a crash occurred.
Endgame is what you do after your character is maxed out. Most games just extend the levels or give out better gear that you want to obtain. Endgame for some people can be dungeons, but for most dungeons are a mean to an end. If we are truthful, then dungeons for “fun” or “to see that I can do level 20 fractals” is not keeping people. The endgame that keeps most people is the struggle between guilds and the race to be the strongest, that is why people spend their days in boring dungeons to grind this ring that give +3 more toughness (arms race). Unfortunately GvG and PvP competiveness has been made too anonymous and / or simply not implemented. Probably because it takes out the worst in people. The consequence though is that they took out an important endgame path.
Thank you, Grit, for posting that link. It points to a post in which I describe the culling issue in some detail and discuss a few of the issues involved with changing culling. An even more in depth explanation of what culling is can be found here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/The-real-problem-here-is-invisible-enemies-Give-their-algorithms-time-to-match-servers-properly/page/4#post356817 (be sure to read both that post and the next – my description exceeded the post size limit).
As you know we’ve been working on this problem for a while but what I think we haven’t ever said before is that our goal is to remove culling completely from WvW. In order to remove culling completely we have to address three issues:
1) Bandwidth out of our servers/datacenter (traffic would increase without culling)
2) Bandwidth in to each client (traffic to each client would also increase without culling)
3) Client performance issues related to rendering (potentially) all the players on a map at once. (Note that we base our performance requirements in this case on min-spec clients. We don’t want to stop anybody being able to play the game after all.)……..etc etc
I want to say two things about this.
1. Stability issues. I have a pretty good computer (Intel i7, Nvidea Geforce). But so very often when big zergs load the client will crash completely.
2. Lessons from others. In Tera I seen them load quickly the outline of characters, then the character is build up while it is loaded on the screen in a Star Trek holodeck kinda way. That looks really good and you see the other people quickly, you won’t be surprised by a zerg. Lineage 2 is a much older game, but recently they add a selector circle on the ground. That probably is an easy solution. Quickly load these circles and at least you will be warned and you can start selecting a target already.

The “Alt+F4 is no escape” I don’t like at all. Why? Well very often I have an DC and especially when a big zerg vs zerg fight breaks out. Now I find my self death while I could have escaped. If the game is not bug free and DCs constantly then this is not a nice feature at all.
In Orr I still drop rare items quite regularly. However, I did the vizier tower jumping puzzle, defeat the RB and I got some green items. Come on now, that is really little. At least some karma and a rare item for the effort. Master (green) items are so easily obtained and worth nothing, that is no reward equal to the achievement of making a jumping puzzle.
Also, more importantly perhaps, I seen that my level 24 elementalist doesn’t drop any WvW badges. My level 80 guardian, though very little, does drop a couple in a hour of play. The elementalist didn’t drop, not even 1, in 4h of WvW. It can’t be that I didn’t kill anyone. In fact I did kill, because I got XP but no drops and if I dropped it contained junk items.
5. Anonymity creates no rivalry…which to me is a big part of the PvP fun in an MMO…wanting to hunt specific people down.
Disagree 1000%
ANet did it right by making enemies unable to talk to each other. Last thing I want is some kid with an attitude paging me about how I suck, or how he’s going to kill me after I just killed him.Wow. Someone needs to go back to school and learn the meaning of the word Anonymity. The poster was talking about being able to know who you are fighting by presenting their name on the screen other than “so and so invader” .
Fear the middle way is lost. Some names would be nice. Titles. But with the names you can pm. More guild competition would be nice also. Without some competition it al gets boring.
There is some serious problem with badge drops. 3 hours of wvw with ele and not 1 badge. You get only if you finish people? Don’t get it. Hardly worth being ranged like this. You kill and the close combat mob up for badges.
Though I see no need being unkind to people; policing peoples freedom of speech I find unnecessary and unwanted. It might also be a collision of cultures. In the 1 country curses are almost a form of saying hello, in other countries it is heavily frowned upon, e.g., the usa, though one must recognize that Hollywood entertainment is filled with profanity and cursing. The whole thing is quit double.
Must say I never experienced a more decent community than the GW2 community. But perhaps I choose the people I party with more carefully and/or guild I join.
I think the community is too black and white. The game is not dieing and yes there is a lot of content. But the content doesn’t keep. It is not interesting for difference reasons.
WvW is problematic because it is often 1 server being totally outnumbered and this is not funny for any side. There are keeps and castles, but the interchange every 5 minutes. It is no real conquest as their is no long lasting benefit and everyone from your server can enter “your” tower / keep / castle.
Dungeons are just problematic because they take too much of your time and their are no multi-party epic boss instances to do with guild.
In general though I believe that people are more demanding then they used to be. Many are quickly bored.
Btw. world completion is not end-game stuff. It is not something you can keep doing, at some point it is finished. And besides, not everyone is interested in that.
Funny, how they got your address :O scary
Nothing to do with the fact that you can pay to win instead of actually playing.
you dont understand what ‘pay to win’ means
Obviously you don’t. I can teach you.
Example: Guild Wars 2 has a gem store. You can pay real money for gold on it.
Gold in GW2 = Win.
No gold in GW2 = lose. Therefore we see you can pay to win.
Do you understand?
Obviously the definition of pay to win is different. In other games that are truly pay to win you can buy items in the “gem” store that you can not obtain by playing. These items make you extremely more powerful in open world pvp.
Pay to win is if the in-game store sells power unobtainable by playing.
This game is not pay to win. Pay to win means that you can buy items that can’t be obtained playing and they give you permanent stats increase. In GW2 even the boosts you can get playing. In any case, even the gear you buy the gold you get from diamonds doesn’t make you win in this game because the gear advantage is really minor in comparison with many games. Master gear and up is fine and a exotic geared can’t 1 shot you.
To be honest, it sounds like you just need a guild.
Guild won’t help much since they mostly end up like one big crowd thanks to multiple guild system. One has to be really lucky to find a dedicated group and lets be honest here not all get lucky when it comes to finding the right guild.
Next to the fact that there is no activity that requires a guild, there is no overview for people to see which guild is good or not. People can’t evaluate guild performance in anyway. How many members they have? How active? How much members go to WvW? They own any towers? Guild Hall? O no there is none etc.etc.
Is there any kind of class with more than 5 healths, sometimes I am unsure if a warrior, e.g., can do such things. If it is and imba problem or a hack problem. But it must not be to difficult to decide that people fire a certain heal skill 20 times in 10s.
Good points. Point 6 already happens I noticed. Though if get put out because I took a glass of water for 95 seconds and I have to wait again 30 minutes to go to EB and crash on load so wait 1h because I wanted a glass of water would seriously kitten me off and I won’t go at all. So 90 seconds is too little imho. Point 5 is also already there and I am not for forcing people with achievements. The fractals are also forced on us.
Bugs, bugs, BUGS! It’s like they never kittening tested it at all.
This I am wondering about now from the start of GW2, the most basic functionality like chat containing serious bugs that you wonder if they try it let alone test it.
Though the OP states that loads of people leave because of fractals. I say that that is not true. For 1 they leave for other reasons (like boredom) and 2 they don’t leave at all, but servers seem empty because everyone is stuck in the dungeons.
I read a quote where the GM confirms that “Full” means that the max number of people are actively playing. So, people are not leaving. You just don’t see them because of instances and because of world size.
Think your assumption is wrong. Fractals has not driven many from the game.
Most people who stop playing just get bored. The trend was starting even before fractals even existed. Imho it is because guilds have no meaning and people don’t feel connected. There is no group to fight for and PvP becomes goal-less. Worlds are too big a unit to feel loyalty to.
(edited by beren.6048)
I mean really people this guy has viable gripes. He tells you how he feels and you come back with a childish smart@ss response. If you have noticed there are many others saying the same thing. He may leave then another so on so on. I bet more people are leaving everyday than buying this game.
How he starts his thread and how he titles it is just quite over the top. “I am leaving” threads are not really allowed anyway and the thread & the trolls will be infracted as soon as the GM drank his first coffee and opened his eyes.
And how did he get such massive amounts of ectos etc.? Sounds to me his return wasn’t diminished. Doubt Anet will put players on such lists. If they see something is not ok then they ban otherwise nothing. Nobody here, except the GM, can tell you for sure. My MMO experience tells me that he just wanted to show how much he has and how high profile he is.
@roargathor it is either like that or the number 1 WvW server will become a monster with lag spikes etc. There is no guild who want to do daily WvW runs? It is all like the classical MMOs where everyone joins the top guilds until there is 1 guild on the whole server. That is no fun and 1 massive server is no fun either.
Then they need to increase the player cap, because a sever should never read “Full” and have 0 WvW participation.
Hard to say, your server can kinda evolve in a PvE server. If all PvP savage guilds leave for the WvW top servers and all new PvP players keep going to these servers.
I hope it will include major bug fixes not only new content
It must be pretty easy disable the kick during a instance. So if you get kicked you also exit the dungeon?
Think there should be some option to switch them off as they start to fill up the view in LA. In WvW people find the zerk by looking for a commander.
How do servers change from full to high and how do people get onto full servers if they check for certain times of day?
If it is tied to number of total accounts including those inactive for a while, then wouldn’t populations just go up and stay up and never show up as high instead of full?
I notice that in my guild list if people are not playing for days their location shows as “unknown”. Perhaps after a certain time those types of accounts are not counted in the server census.
No one really know, I am guessing the process transfers at night. If they have servers filled with inactive accounts they ll have serious problem around christmas. Guess also that the WvW will slowly shift towards the new servers with more active numbers.
Well, it WOULD be an awful shame if on Christmas day, every server was “Full” and nobody could play the game they got for Christmas, but I seriously doubt that would happen.
I’m also not really complaining about the game being dead, as much as I am asking if new servers are on the horizon – which would be nice for just about everyone.
Think people try to say that they should change the way they calculate “Full” or move out inactive accounts. Because servers seem empty at times, a lot more than at start and there seems to be no need for a new server. Just don’t count accounts not played for 2 months.
It is a shame because people get inactive and if new blood can’t enter then you get empty “Full” servers.
It used to be possible to go late at night and make a character outside of peak hours.
By what you say u like doing id suggest Necro…A condition dmg spec necro can do decent aoe/ works well in zergs in Wvw, and is capable of 1v1’ing (though its generally not their strongest area)
I prefer Scepter/Focus (or Dagger) with staff secondary, Only downside is the best pve spec is minion master, but necro minion Ai is pretty much garage as of right now and no idea when itll be fixed .-.
Downside- Necros are generally not wanted in dungeons because of Condition dmg caps/ and minions get 1 shotted by just about anything.
Don’t necro but people who play necro complain a lot. In WvW I see mainly ele. Thiefs if you enjoy going ninja
Why do you need a main char? What difference would it make in playing this or other chars?
Because you ll otherwise spread your effort too much. He likes WvW, yes you scale, but full traits, full skills and exotic gear makes a difference. Outnumbered we won because of superior traits and gear.
Loved the fractals, just don’t have time to do 2h+ dungeon to make the next level. Just doing 1 of the 3 mini-dungeons is not worth the effort (and so not level). Its not even possible because people will get upset when you don’t stay for all 3 times needed to level.
If you don’t have fun then don’t do it. You don’t pay subscription, come back when they deliver content you do like. Like new content where Trahearne gets killed.
(edited by beren.6048)
From what you say you like, definitely make an elementalist. In WvW the bomb the whole place to pieces. All 3 classes you like are kinda glass, so defence wise it doesn’t matter.
(edited by beren.6048)
……
Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a use for players playing together – it’s satisfactory to play “along side” others where it doesn’t matter what each other are doing. It’s a solo game with other people around, and the combat reflects that. Not team play in any way, shape or form.
You need to work together to do the dungeon. Tell people who do fractals level 10+ they don’t need to work together in GW2. In trinity games the DDs do only pew pew and sleep otherwise and the bulk of the work is done by the tank and the healer (classes only too few want to play, thus endless waiting). And once you choose to be healer you will always be the healer. In GW2 I can choose my role on the spot. I can and I do support my party at times. In WvW I use a long range setup, in dungeons I use a support healer buffer / damage setup in weapon swap, in sPvP close combat high defense build.
(edited by beren.6048)
Desolation has some people in the newbie areas, depends on the time you play. I walk around doing world completion and see a number of people (more lately). Its EU server, but I suggest you to play on the top rated WvW US server. Strength in numbers is the only thing that really matters in WvW, so the higher the rank means the higher the population.
Thank you Anet to do away with the trinity. It is an awful system where you sit around allllll night waiting for essential classes to come online. And then have everything depend on this one healer and you can’t do anything about failing the dungeon because you didn’t know the healer was no good. To exit the dungeon and wait again for a new healer. The trinity where you are forced to play in constant parties and many people play with people they don’t like, but only because they are good healer / good tank etc. etc.
Now, if you want a more healerish profession you can best play guardian with staff and healer build. My guardian can do virtue of resolve which is like a minor group heal and empower (staff skill giving about 2000HP every 20s) which is like major group heal (given you have a staff with heal)
you can have mace & shield as second weapon swap where you heal while you hit.
(edited by beren.6048)
crash almost everytime I enter or exit a new area, especially when I have been on for 1h or more and more often than not when entering LA or Divinity Reach
Simply said imagine being a new player on the server where the server average has one year worth of progression in front of you. You ll not find anyone to start to do the fractals (or super mega fractals we have by then). And even if you wanted to even try to catch up, you can’t. You go WvW to have some fun and every progressed char will one shoot you and you don’t even do a dent. That is basically the horror scenario if true vertical progression comes to be. Winning the fight shifts from the skilled player to the geared player.
And once again, I’m left wondering why include the stat upgrades at all.
That’s the million dollar question, which we’ll never get a real answer to.
We all have a good idea why of course, it just doesn’t make sense, not to me anyway.
They try to have the advantage of gear progression, where your players have always something left to do and not have the disadvantage where a superman character can one shoot almost everyone. That’s the reason for the infusion at least, imho. Some of the stats are only useful if you do the dungeon.
The stats useful outside the dungeon are the lure to do the dungeon. Else the WvW people will not do the dungeon at all and they will get bored faster.
which server are you playing? You should always say your server, because population shifts towards the servers who win in WvW. Desolation is starting to fill up, don’t know why I see more people online. Yesterday WvW was epic streams of reinforcements to beat back the two german servers. I was waiting for 30 min to get into EB, to DC in the first zerg to zerg battle
well, it doesnt take sherlock holmes to see that the population has greatly decreased in the last few weeks.
to say otherwise is not being objective or just being oblivious to your surroundings.
even lions arch can only maintain overflow during peak hours. there isnt an overflow in any other zone at any point of the day. WvW never has a wait to get in except for a few hours when a new pairing begins. sPvP is a ghost town. Even during peak hours, the majority of games i hot join are 1 v1….
Sure but ascend gear is THE reason? In my guild I see that number of people stop playing because they are bored and they have other games, that are actually more grindy, to go back to. Having goal-less pvp, empty pve and a finished story are more likely the reasons why people quit, imo.
I fully agree. To people who disagree, look at it this way:
quite some problems, including all the guild hopping, can be fixed by one of these two things
1) change in player mentality
2) change in game mechanicsThe first point isn’t going to happen. So if the problem is to be solved, it has to be the second. It’s as simple as that.
I played games where every character could be in a different guild. You could just play with you best character in a top guild and with an alt in a friends guild. The difference is that the Guild Leader never knows if you are not playing or if you are on an alt. This game had many issues, but having multiple guilds worked just fine like that.
Guilds worked there because they had things to do that actually required a guild. Some epic bosses you could only do with a huge guild or an alliance. Maybe I think well long life my freedom, but that is the reason why guild are not working. They are good for nothing, a shared chat that nobody uses and some buffs that any guild can provide you.
when you explain your grand mother why ascend gear is the root of all evil
@Paper Animal well why don’t you just kick these people? Especially if they don’t even respond. The problem remains that they have nothing to do to feel connected to your guild, you’re just this stranger who PMs them.
I remember how awesome it was (in another old MMO) to help your guild take the fortress and how we got to use it for a day to a week. It gave benefits like buffs and cheap porting and above all a place to hangout. To be a fortress owning guild was also mentioned on the map. This is just 1 example that can help guilds to create bonds.
think if they restrict login attempts that lots of people will be locked out because of the hacking attempts going on. My account is linked to my e-mail address, what if someone keeps on trying my e-mail address? I ll be locked out all the time?
Guardian is no tank, more a healer than a tank. They have the lowest health pool but their healing magic and heavy armor makes them top in survive-ability. Love the guardian from the start because I love paladins in the DnD style (magical soldiers).
Many other classes are harder to play because taking damage is more important than doing damage in most cases. However, my guild doesn’t have a bigger proportion of guardians. Maybe it is a coincidence or maybe it depend on you guilds type.
