Meh… I like that they’re coming back, but I definitely feel bringing them back solely as part of the Fractal system is a poor choice.

Agree, I hate fractals. New open world is what I want, not more instances and empty open worlds as a consequence. I remember the old MMOs where you could just open the door of a dungeon and walk in. GW2 should have some of those open world dungeons with raid bosses.

It is not a hack if you don’t need to hack the client, imo. If it is just simply done with window mode then perhaps it is more an exploit. That been said, flying, wall walking and all these severe game breaking hack I don’t understand how they do not detect these. Should be quiet simple, since the door is not broken yet a character moved to a position within the walls.

Killing PVEers in the jumping puzzle makes the opposite server have a larger queue and percentage wise less actual PVP players. Strategically it makes sense. Also, PVP players could complain that they have to wait more now that PVEers are forced into WvW.

Dunno, on my server WvW is the only place I see lots of people. I don’t know if you can support the claim that most players do PvE. Also, the biggest guilds on my server are strong at PvP. But being strong at PvP means being strong at PvE. In most MMOs pvp is the main part of the end game and PVE is to gear up.

However, yes all kinds of players must be there. All rounders, PvE only and PvP only. And especially all professions, else, kitten many games, we end up with uberstrong warriors and thiefs.

In any MMO time spent needs to be rewarded because players are content and if nobody logs in then you ll end up with an empty MMO. So rewarding time spend from a business perspective is good, especially if you also want to keep the people with not much skill.

My guess would be that WvWs turned into nothing but a zerg fest, combined with the unbelievably stupid match setups they`re currently screwing over every player over with.

After months I come and try a bit of GW2 to find my server being matched up with 2 servers who are clearly 10 times more strong than us. WvW was no longer playable because where ever you go you ll find enemy zergs and all your people stop going to WvW, so now there is no zerg to run with. Matching up a rank 7 server with a rank 2 is just stupid.

I know a lot of my Guildies quit because a majority of the updates to the game have been “push F here, now go there and push F”. And it’s not fun or interactive for them.

My guild quit the game shortly after the living story. I think the living story is not interesting and very much old fashion go to NPC and read text. As far as I have seen. Think people were disappointed for not getting an extension on the personal story, but they got this old fashion way of questing.

GW2=/=GW1
they only used the name to get more $$ and the lore because I think they were lazy and will cost them less money.
I moved on playing Tera because my guild moved to that game. if I find another game like GW1 I will spend the rest of my life in that game.

This is approx. my opinion.

@OP Don’t try to find WoW in GW2 and don’t expect any GW1 in GW2. It is not there and it will take a long time before any of the big features will be there, if ever. If you don’t like what you got now, don’t expect anything else.

And @OP this game is sooooo easy the 80 levels are like the 20 levels in GW1. I easily do a level a day, that is fast for any MMO and any other MMO knows that allowing such fast leveling will mean that people will get bored fast.

Thanks to everyone so much for their responses! I am so surprised and encouraged at how on-topic this thread has remained. There have only been a few GW1 vs. GW2/Easy vs. Hard scuffles! If this were the WoW forums this would have derailed into a 25 page sniping match without any regard for the original intent by now. I truly appreciate all of your time and advice. Obviously there is overwhelming support and I believe this game is one I need to invest some time in, but I’d still like to hear from anyone who is willing and I do have another question to add.

In regards to builds, is this a similar system to WoW’s (old) talent system? In other words, is it a cookie cutter system where if I want to complete content then I HAVE to use certain builds/weapons, or is it really up to me and the builds are there for current optimal results but ultimately won’t make a difference in the long run, so long as I play the profession well?

Thanks again!

Some builds are better than others, but you don’t need specific builds to do content. A guardian you can setup as a healer build or more like a warrior. Spend some time searching good builds. Even if you make a mistake you can change your build for little silver.

with all do respect, dungeons do not last hours… arah does, maybe crucible, but the rest is 30-45 mins, hell AC can even be ran completely (all 3 paths) within the hour. The reason that it’s boring is that out of these 30-45 mins 5mins are bossfights and even the bossfight mechanics suck. Trash just has way to much health and can’t even be pulled together without resetting half the dungeon.

Many dungeon I tried took hours to complete (expect COF p1). I ll admit, I haven’t done any of them again, so guess you could do faster. But hey, he should play and see how he experiences it. About the boss fights, I just say agree.

1. All dungeons last many hours except for COF, which everyone is farming ofc.

2. Who knows, I haven’t seen statistics. I would join a big guild on the top WvW Server, as much top as you can get. WvW is mostly about numbers, so the strongest server probably has the most active & biggest player base. See lots of players, I think the game is very much alive, but my guild is gone & all my MMO friends play other MMOs. Think player retention probably is not very high.

3. You can do most content with pretty low gear and drops are easy. There is a grind for looks and there is a grind if you want to do fractals at high levels.

4. The cash shop is quiet ok. Most games quickly fall to the darkside of p2w, not GW2. You can also collect gold by playing and exchange it for diamonds and with the diamonds you buy in the cash shop.

5. Imo, they have not delivered things I regard standard for MMOs OR some things I expected to be part of a GW title, e.g., like grouping tools, GvG, Guild Halls, 20 vs 20 arenas, capes or guild icons, multi party epic raid instances. Sometimes it feels to me like doing many things half.

I think you should play it and find out for yourself. I enjoined the game, but it doesn’t keep me. Quickly lost the “must-play” feeling.

1. Dungeons are faceroll zergfests for those who do are pro dungeon runners. Dungeons are really hard for people who don’t do many dungeons. I find some dungeons hard and some dungeons not so far. We did path four of Arah recently and it took four hours. I don’t know how the pro groups go, but that’s about average for group of lesser mortals. I believe more people find the dungeons hard than find them easy.

4 hours in a dungeon, that sounds like GW2. For me it is just crazy and the reason why I haven’t done dungeons for a long time. However imo it is not hard, it a lengthy drag.

Last dungeon I got myself into was the that super mario dungeon. After 4 hours we still weren’t finished and I just wanted to go, but I didn’t want to dump my group. Assumed it was something small like the halloween dungeon, boy was I in for a surprise…

The game has been horribly optimized since launch and Anet simply doesn’t do anything about it. With any other company fixing performance as poor as this would be a number 1 priority, but Anet doesn’t seem to understand that.

I’ve got a PC that plays Crysis 3 on high at 30FPS, but loading times in GW2 are abysmally long and performance grinds to a halt the moment I so much as think of going to Lion’s Arch or taking part in the shadow behemoth event. It’s quite clearly a game issue, yet Arenanet isn’t doing crap about it.

This. I have sent so many crash reports since launch. What have they done about it? Nothing.

This game has the worst optimization I’ve ever seen since the Black Ops PC port. My PC is perfectly capable of running any game with average-high settings with decent fps. Yet on GW2, low gfx I will have consistently low fps, and after a certain amount of WP uses/zones (especially in and out of major cities) I will crash.

I haven’t bothered sending reports as of the last couple of weeks. It’s hopeless, and it is clear they do not even check the reports. Why is there an option to leave your e-mail adress behind? So they can respond? HA. Good one.

There is some dev response on the issue somewhere, they know. Haven’t seen anything new about it. But switching to 64 bits windows for 1 game I think is over the top. In any case it should never crash, just lag or load less environment.

What rewards? Drops don’t matter, the stats have very little influence. Some easily obtained gear will do the job. There is no real gear grind to keep people playing. If you don’t gear grind then you need content. The living story seems nothing to me, better they add to the personal story with indicator on where to go & cutscenes to reward you completing a story step.

I play another game now, it has dungeons that take like 30 minutes & it has dungeons that need only two people and a system matches you automatically.

Now about exploits, this game is out how long now? It still has real exploits in the dungeons? Or are we talking about skipping some none-boss mobs?

  • I felt more rewarding in GW even as Anet hated me back the in rewarding my efford.
guildies gave me greens because after 20 runs i still had not got even 1. But even then I got the feeling i did something. Even though GW1 gave me more joy i since the GW2-Beta’s i could no longer play it.
  • GW1 was a very story driven game, this is all gone due to the open world and personal story is 3rd rank by now.

This is not GW1. It was never intended to be. Why do you insist it must be the same experience?

GW2 plays in the same world / lore and they did claim you would have everything you liked from GW1.

Anyone who seriously analyzes that statement HAS to know that it’s nothing more than marketing and the kind of thing every company says. Let’s be logical for a moment.

Everything YOU love about Guild Wars 1. Does Anet know you? Have they polled you? How about if you love something from Guild Wars 1 that I hate, or I hate something from Guild Wars 1 that you loved? What if I really really loved a specific bug in the game? Should that bug be in this game too? What if I really loved Prince Rurik? Should he make a return?

I really really really hated Spamadan…standing around and selling my stuff. Some people loved it. Should Guild Wars 2 not have a marketplace then?

People need to have some common sense when viewing marketing from ANY company.

With this statement they give their intent, their intent was to make a game that has features from GW1. Except for the lore, it really is a different game, none of the GW1 features are there. So yes, it is a completely different game. But you can’t claim they didnt suggest that the game will have GW1 features, they even call it the same. Jaws 2 is still about a shark and not about a crocodile.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They have always said they wanted to have a game where the journey was the endgame. For all the time I have spent playing WoW the dungeon hamster wheel Blizzard have brainwashed many players has to stop. Players running through the same dungeon 30 times a day for a single piece of gear is just desperately sad.

In this game people are still doing that. What about fractals? And dungeons and their dungeon tokens? The only real difference is that here you mostly do it for the dungeon skin and in other games you do it usually for the stats (though fractals are so popular because they give stats).

Gw2 really is not so much different than all the other games, some mechanisms are superior others are inferior. The story? The Gw1 story was much more extensive from the beginning. This story is easy and really quiet boring once trahearne gets into the picture. Its like they had this great story idea and how to make it personal and then they had to finish it and they quickly thought up the trahearne end.

Throw in a couple of pugs and you ll be sitting there trying for hours. Yes, sure hard mode and normal mode would be nice. Hard mode can give twice the badges or specific items. Everyone happy. My point is, that couple of times I seen that people run CoF because it takes little time and they are off for the day.

A dungeon can be short and hard. The developers in this game seem to think lots of HP and long runs means the dungeon is hard, which, again imho, is not true.

Why is it a problem if people farm? Or find out how to fast do a dungeon? Anet need to make the boss mechanism more challenging perhaps. As long as they don’t exploit bugs I believe you should not punish skill. Some players go to great length selecting the right classes and skills. These players you should appreciate, without them market prices will be much higher.

CoF is not only preferred because it is easy, I think it is mainly preferred because it is short. Not all people want to be stuck in 1 dungeon for 3 hours. Many, 1h max dungeons with bosses with interesting mechanisms and dungeon specific rewards that is, imho, what people really want. And yes, gear with stats you can only obtain from these dungeons, something to save for.

This game has a couple of issues imo. One is the great marketing department who, I believe, over-promised or gave a great sling to concepts that turn out not be that great. Like the personal story, which really is not personal. It sounds great, like many things Anet claims, but my story ends up the same as any other story once you get into the trahearne stage. The epic DEs are just automatically accepted quests, the only difference is that you don’t need to walk to an npc to get it. Again, dynamic events sounds really catchy, but it over-promises and makes people imagine things that are not there. The player housing, which is just a instance of a village. None of these houses is clearly yours and there is no house to decorate. You can’t call it player housing at all.

What I seen is that everyone I know stopped playing and 90% of my guild moved to other games. And you know what? No body really reads the forums, they mostly simply stop because they are bored with GW2.

Have you tried jumping into WvW? It’s much easier to find people to run along with you there, and you dont have to be level 80.

You can also try joining other people’s activities (such as public guild missions, parties and temple raids).

It looks like you are playing on a low-pop server, or on low-traffic hours. I would suggest guesting around to check things out. Some server communities are more social than others.

Yeah I’ve tried WvW. I die instantly because despite everyone being raised to 80 were not all equal.

Rogues pick me off and I die in less then 6 seconds despite heavy usage of my cooldowns.

Considering I’ve never been past level 25. WvW is not a good place for me to be…or anyone below 80 for that matter.

And from my experience…nobody talks there either..

Rogues are made to pick off the people who don’t follow the commander. They are the assassins. E.g., a guardian is a group support unit, if you walk alone you might loose from a dagger unless its a condition daggerer.

This is more like soloing alongside each other

Still we share a common goal, to complete the event, and we help each other.

It’s the same with dungeons then, you are just soloing alongside with others to complete your goal, you just have to use a group mechanic to do it.

Social is talking and joking together. Its more likely to happen in groups. Interaction typically is not needed. Thats what I say. Yes, like in the real world, you have to find the right group of people.

Its all easily solo-able and there is no need to be social. Is that good or bad? Should people be forced to be social such that they can do all content? GvG, guild halls, guild hall battles, fortress battles (fortress located in PvE envirnoment) and guild epic raid instances I miss. In general I don’t care much about yes/no trinity. However, another game I play has nice solution where the user can switch from DD to his class specific role, e.g., healer or tank. Like that everybody can be DD and everybody needs to choose 1 essential role he/she can play.

don’t tone them down, not everything should be solo-able. BUT increase drop value, lots of krait exclusive exotics and people will come and party in these places. At this moment I can solo Orr and get twice the drops & half the difficulty. Kraits is not worth the effort, especially comparing it with fractals.

The problem summarised in one bug...

Less walking in case of an event, more mob killing at once

But in orr there so much mobs that this is not needed I believe.

Agree with Vayne.

I know the bug you’re talking about in Orr. What I find funny is that the monsters these people are running around killing in the hopes of better loot are no different than the monsters that are in the area anyway. The loot table on these monsters isn’t any different. Yet people get all excited about it because it’s a bug.

Ever seen people in dungeons insist on some exploit that actually is more of a pain in the kitten than just playing the dungeon the normal way? I see this all the time. And you can’t tell them that it’s easier just to play it right. They have to have their exploit.

I’ve no idea why people get all excited about this kind of thing, but they sure do.

Given time you can get all the ascend jewelry by doing dailies. This is perhaps also grinding. Perhaps its more grinding than doing a dungeon and dropping ascend. Now you can enter the fractals at the highest level in the party. After completion you ll all go up 1 level (except if you play below your level)

Imo GW2 is the easiest MMO in the market with the least amount of grind and I believe an MMO can never be without grind. It is always about monster killing and random probabilities for drops, so people will always repeat until they get what they want. GW2 has a number of features making it boring to me, but perhaps it is fun to you now. So yes you could try again.
