i do wish they would focus more on the pvp aspect of this game, imo that is their longevity.

Exactly. I am a pve raider but came to this game expecting mostly pvp but fun pvp that made you wan to play as I wanted to get into some pvp more. Such a huge disappointment. WoW’s pvp is better and more competitive and that is sad when GW2 was supposed to be pvp based.

Indeed. And more recently, SWTOR. That was in a far worse state than GW2 in the first few months. This has been a very smooth launch overall.

You obviously weren’t there for the ToR launch so please don’t state something when you weren’t there or build lies because ToR had an incredibly smooth launch. Was there for Beta, early access launch and day 1 and beyond of launch. The servers never crashed. Had no lag issues. Didn’t see any game breaking bugs or issues. No rubber banding. Able to do 99% of the quests. No account issues etc.

So please do tell how ToR was in far worse shape. I won’t deny there were bugs but which game doesn’t at launch? GW2 had just as many but GW2 was far worse. Tons of bots to add to the mix too. Overall GW2 wasn’t a bad launch though but to say ToR was far worse shows you weren’t there for launch. If YOU had issues then that was just you. Also class balances in GW2 are horrible and has been since launch. ToR’s wasn’t even close to out of balance as GW2 is.

The only other smooth launch was Rift.

This is why I wish Blizzard would go back to their Vanilla/BC ways and make people work for things. Vanilla and BC you had to put in time and effort to just get attuned to be able to enter one of the raids. Then you also need to farm rep. It was more than just dailies then to get rep. You could get it by a lot of ways but yeah it was still farming. But this took up a lot of time and always gave me something to do along with many others. I never logged on and just sat there and tried to think of something to do like you do in most mmo’s today. Also make the end game raids like then also. None of this LFR, normal and hard mode stuff.

I know I am talking from a pve perspective but, well, GW2 is becoming more pve when I thought it was supposed to be pvp.

Yes I know also that people now-a-days don’t have that time anymore but you know what, those same people are complaining about nothing to do also and how easy everything is. I think gaming companies will be surprised that they may not lose people going back to this way and also won’t need to feel the need to pump out tons of new content every other week because it will take time to do things. There is a reason WoW’s numbers grew how they did from Vanilla and BC and started dropping during Wrath and Cata.

Not only with the end game but they also would pump out lots of events and even a couple events where the whole server needed to participate in (Opening of the AQ gates and unlocking Sunwell and the territories there). That was so much fun.

If people don’t have the time and don’t want to put in the time then go play single player RPG games like Skyrim.

This isn’t just about Blizzard and WoW but used them as the example since they are the only ones to do it right in Vanilla and BC. I would love other mmo game to be like that even if it is from another company.

Good topic first of all.

I have always been into gaming back from Atari 2600 etc. to Kings Quest series (all the Roberta Williams games and Sierra games) to console and pc gaming to date. As of now I am more into MMO’s as my main but still play some fps like Quake 3 and Half-Life and Counter Strike etc. and some console games here and there.

Anyways my mmo history started with UO. Talk about MMO’s that take a lot to learn. This was by far one of them. I only played a little because I had no clue what I was doing. I would get my butt handed to me by a cat. But still I started to learn how to play but in the end wasn’t for me.

SWG came out and was the first mmo that I actually learned and spent a lot of time playing. Yes the game had major issues but it was all about the community. Made a lot of good friends whom I still talk to. Played since day 1 of launch till 2 months after the nge. So I put in years with this game.

Went to WoW about 2 months after launch and that is where I first found out about end game raiding and absolutely fell in love it. I got into hard core raiding quickly once I knew what it was about. Would put in 5-6 nights a week at 4 hrs+ to raid and when not raiding was always on unless I was at work or didn’t go out. I loved SWG because of the people but I really loved and still love WoW. I met a lot amazing people throughout playing WoW as well. Have cleared all end game raiding at the time you were supposed and pre-nerfs for the most part. So gained tons more mmo experience here and what I wanted in an mmo game.

Anyways since this about gaming history I still play WoW and raid but I also have played: AoC, Aion, LotR, TSW, STO, Rift, Tera, GW2, ToR, EQ2 and of all these the only one I still play is ToR. I have LotR installed and log on here and there but not all that much to say I play it still.

So I feel I have a lot of mmo experience having tried most of the main stream mmo’s but just never held my interest. I know I am not the only one who feels like this or else mmo’s post-WoW would actually grow in subs and not drop after month like every mmo has since WoW.

As for GW2 is no different than the other mmo’s I mentioned where it got boring fast and don’t like the game right now. I am a pve player w/ raiding as a focus but I wanted an mmo where pvp was actually a focus and to be fun and different so I thought GW2 would be it but the pvp is horrible in this game as well as the pve.

ArenaNet is awesome: bot/exploiter bans

Something which doesn’t get mentioned often enough.

Anet has done something which no other MMO appears to do properly: takes exploiters and botters seriously and ban them. The big trains are completely gone. This is a major achievement.

Even in WoW there are constantly bots in BGs making your team lose, bots farming gold, exploiters everywhere, even at the top of the arena ladders. Blizzard has failed to ban them and continues to allow bots to impact on other players.

So here’s from me:

A kudos to ArenaNet for doing something that is very important for legitimate players, thanks for banning all those bots that plague the MMO and general online gaming world.

This must be your first mmo because Anet isn’t the first and not only that has taken extremely long to do so and there are still many boters. And do research first please because Blizzard has done this for a long time and actually has done a way better job than Anet. You will ALWAYS have bots and gold farmers but WoW controls them a lot better. I only get friend requests now for gold. I haven’t been spammed for gold in a long time.

I’m sorry but I have to laugh at some of these posts saying “gear is thrown at you” and “no grind” and the cake winner is “Guild Wars 2 has end game at 80, in which you can get exotic gear fairly easily.” Simply amazing. GW2 first of all is a grind. Tell me how having to events over and over and over and over etc. again to just get a couple levels so you can go to the next zone (leveling) not a grind? The whole quest system is the worst in any mmo and extremely grindy and beyond repetitive.

2nd gear isn’t thrown at you.

3rd there is NO end game here. You have a dungeon to keep running. You can do pvp which for this game is a complete joke. Craft. Or work on your gear which we were told in the beginning would be about gear progression and now it is.

Also these forums have nothing to with how people feel in-game. If for you, you allow people to speak and think for you and so then you start to hate the game then maybe you shouldn’t ever go on gaming forums.

If doing dungeons, PvP, crafting, and gathering items is not end game content, then please present me with a game that provides end game content that is not one of these.

Yep sad excuse for end game and content. Crafting? Seriously? Anyone who considers crafting in todays mmo as end game says it all right there. The pvp in this game is a joke. Gathering items? WOW that is some amazing end game content. No wonder GW2 is one of the worst games out and worst end game ever. Only time crafting was actual end game was in SWG.

WoW, ToR, Rift, LotR don’t use those excuses for end game. Anyone who needs to use those as examples tells me how bad that end game is.

WoW has actual end game raiding and has the best still and no other mmo will ever come close to their end game. I am talking ALL of WoW, not just the ones you feel were bad. But places like MC, BWL, AQ40, Naxx40, Karazan, ZG, SSC, TK, BT, Sunwell, Ulduar, and even ICC will never get out beaten by anyone. They also have had gate opening for a raid which involved the entire server along with in BC to unlock zones for Sunwell you needed the whole server to participate. Even WoW’s pvp is a lot more competitive than GW2 and better.

ToR has a way better end game with their operations/raids. Ones that actually have a story line through it and you feel part of the atmosphere and story. Even their Heroic 5 mans blow GW2’s “end game dungeons for gear” away. I would also take their warzones over any of the pvp here also.

Rift and LotR also have very good end games. Haven’t done any pvp on LotR but Rift’s has picked up since launch and still better than GW2 and their Rift event in general is end game.

None of these games I mentioned promote crafting and gathering as end game except for GW2. And GW2’s dungeons are compared to heroic dungeons like WoW and ToR but aren’t considered end game because it is for tokens and gear so you can do end game raids.

I also felt that about the content “It will probably get better once we get to endgame, ANEt probably thought of something fun to do once we get there that arent raiding”
Yet..theres nothing

100x this. Yet somehow fanboys managed to trick themselves into thinking that less is more, and when someone brings up the question of what exactly there is to do at 80, they cover their ears and chant “No gear treadmill! No gear treadmill! No gear treadmill!”. Every single topic on endgame has been derailed, with fanboys putting words into people’s mouths, even when raiding or gear progression hasn’t been mentioned at all. I’ve seen countless posts accusing critics of having a “hidden agenda” and “secretly wanting a treadmill” (these exact words!), namecalling, and slogans like “go back to pandaland”, and accusations of “not being constructive”, which stalled any meaningful discussion on the topic. Ironically, the ones being “not constructive” were them, by absolutely refusing to acknowledge the problem.

LOL so true but they will say “exploration, crafting and jump puzzles” are end game. Sad excuse for an end game and content.

I see no dead servers. People are simply doing other things… which don’t require… a good majority of the world in GW2.

When a server is full 24/7 how does that translate to dead in your opinion I am oh so curious. Why do you base your opinion around a market value that has ZERO to do with in game activity?

When I login I can pretty much find people for whatever it is I want to do, be it WvW, spvp, dungeons, FotM….. etc etc. So again I ask you how does that translate to a dead game.

You must only look at your server because there are quite a few dead servers. And sorry but NO server is full 24/7 and no you haven’t checked all servers.

If they ever showed active people logging on from day of launch till now, the line will be heading downward and not by a gradual fall, a steep decline from launch till now.

When this first game came out the first month it was a blast, but had lots of bugs and crashes, so i stopped playing for a couple of weeks until they fixed a few things.

Now i come back playing in Nov and no body is around ppl are being a bit kitteny and lots of area’s are empty.

I’ve died total of 150 times on two characters only who are lvl 36 and 20.

Is it GW2 or just ppl are bored already?

GW2 is incredibly boring and nothing new and exciting like was hyped. This game was hyped to be the next coming of mmo’s and be revolutionary but it failed big time and now Anet lied about a lot of big things in one being they wouldn’t do gear progression but BAM now they are.

GW2 has done nothing revolutionary nor ground breaking and just a bleh mmo like Tera, Aion, Warhammer, and AoC. LotR, Rift, TSW, ToR and WoW all still blow GW2 out of the water. Wait for Elder Scrolls Online to come out and you will see even more leave.

People will defend GW2 to no end though saying it isn’t dead and that “everyone” is in a certain zone. Hmmmm if all these people were in that zone wouldn’t it be crowded? They need to merge servers big time.

The game already dropped in price and they keep sending us surveys so to me that is a red flag they need more people.

GW2 needs to and likely will soon do server mergers. Those people who say the servers are fine are likely on one of the VERY few servers that may have some people. But overall most servers are dead because the game isn’t all that and not getting any better.

The OP nails it on the head. This is precisely what is happening and what has already happened and what’s going to happen if Anet doesn’t turn around now.

They won’t. They already had a set of plans to follow, adding more powerful infusions. Nexon saw it fit to make a cash cow out of the GW2, which is, imho given a few more months, could be sit side by side with WoW clones. With the lack of bug fixes to a whole lot of things, you can pretty much tell that they spent their resources on this update. There’s no way in hell that executives would retract this.

Fixed that for you. Nobody is ever going to come anywhere near WoW’s success by coping WoW.

Nobody will come anywhere near WoW’s success in general. People can hate it and trash it all they want, but no mmo will reach those numbers again. Not even their new mmo.

Q to those asking for more solo-friendly game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bojangles.6912

bojangles.6912

This applies to (non-dungeon) PvE only:

Do you actually prefer not to play together with other people, or is your playing solo a solution to the lack of people to team up with (either in party or mini zerg)?

To put it in terms of what you think Anet should change: should this massively multiplayer game be turned into a solo game as happened with GW1, or should it be changed to make it much easier to find a group – ie by indicating the locations of other players on the zone map?

I prefer to level solo and quest on my own but I like how some mmo’s offer harder quests which require multiple people so you can team up at times too. But questing I think it is better solo just because if you team up at times they need to go afk then you sit and wait or you have to go afk etc.

It’s like living on your own vs a roommate. Living on your own you can come and go as you please not worrying about having anyone there, can do whatever you like whenever you like in your place but it is nice to have company at times. Whereas a roommate you have to set some rules and boundaries, etc. This is why I never lived with anyone after moving out from the parents.

Then again all mmo’s, including this one, you can hit max level going solo. So honestly they don’t need to change anything to be more solo since it can be done already.

Is GW2 A Different MMO Now

bojangles.6912

I appreciate everyone’s feedback but please stay on topic. They have already locked one of my other posts. Do not want to give them a reason to lock this one.

I would really like someone to explain if they believe adding “gear stat progression” makes GW2 distinct now, a different MMO. And if you feel it does not, why not.

What do you mean by “a different MMO”? Different from the others or different from what was told by Anet how GW2 would be?

If different from others it isn’t. Nothing is new, revolutionary or ground breaking. It is the same as all the others except more boring. Worst questing system ever made too. When you finish a zone being 4-5 levels under what the next zone should be and you have to go to a whole new starting zone to catch up is ridiculous. Oh wait, I could just farm the same events over and over and over and over again.

If different from what we were told by Anet then yes it is. They basically lied about everything and said there would be no gear progression/stat progression etc. among other things.

I remember WoW back when BC came out. I rerolled a Blood Elf Paly and by the time I actually hit max level I couldn’t find any groups on my server. Everyone had already moved on to raids. They were raiding and my gear was not good enough for them.

I was stuck. I could not find groups for basic instances to gear up and I could not get into raids due to my gear. That’s when I decided to quit WoW the first time.

I’m honestly worried that by the time I get around to leveling up my Warrior she really won’t be able to do the instance because everyone will only be running max level or be too busy running the next infusion base instance.

That is actually how WoW was up to Wrath, which is why I miss Vanilla and BC because it was a lot of work but very rewarding if you like that type of stuff. Even in Vanilla if you got into end gaming late while most guilds were on, let’s say AQ40 and you weren’t even in ZG gear, you were SOL unless you joined a noobish guild who still ran ZG and MC and could down a couple bosses. Then once you got some gear you moved on to a little better guild and got gear then moved on etc.

It was sucky to do to those guilds and I never did that as I stayed on top of it and was in very hard core top raiding guilds, but it was all you could do if you wanted to be in a good guild. But once you were, you HAD to put in the time too. 5-6 nights a week 5-6 hours just for raiding.

Also back then you could just buy all your gear with Valor etc. and do LFR for easy mode and free loots.

With what GW2 is doing now it feels like it may be the same way. Gotta get the gear to play which is what they said this game was not going to be about.

WoW is very old, very ugly and quite dull. F2P won’t change that.

It’s full of kids and immature adults who attach their ego to how high their item score is, and basically join a sort of “rat race” comparing themselves to others on the basis of gear, like people in RL who attach their egos to their furniture or how many cars they have.

Sounds like you summed up GW2 to a T also.

WoW I don’t ever see losing its p2p. There are still a people who quit playing but keep their accounts active. WoW is still a great game. Cata was a huge problem and caused a lot to leave, but MoP brought a lot of us back and keeping most of us that came back. Sure some still quit again, but lots of servers still very populated.

Look at UO. You still need to pay a sub for that and that game is very old but has a good following.

Only time WoW will go f2p is when they need to condense the servers by 3/4 what they have now and likely stop making content, or at least not much of it. I believe they stated as long as people keep wanting more, they will keep it coming with expansions etc. This was when they were briefly mentioning their new mmo because people asked if WoW would shut down then and he replied with that. Personally I think WoW would shut down before going a f2p route.

GW2 won’t die either. Even with people leaving in herds, it will level out in time and keep a fan base like AoC, Aion, Rift, Tera, ToR, Warhammer, LotR, The Secret World, etc.

This game isn’t dying, it just lost a ton of players like all other mmo’s 3 weeks after launch. But anyone who thinks there isn’t a huge drop off of people logging and leaving the game is just delusional. Lots of servers are barren, and please don’t say because they are in wvw or stuff like that because they aren’t. People’s friend list of 30+ people having 1-5 people who even still log on is proof of that.

Problem is they just keep disappointing people and lying flat out. Fan boys here would rip on ToR for this so it is funny how they are silent now.

But in the end there has yet to be an mmo since WoW where subs actually would go up and up instead of down fast then maybe raise a little. I wish I knew the reason why this happens now. I know I have tried all the new mmo’s since WoW and lost interest after a month and it isn’t because I wanted to, just lost interest and I know it has a lot to do with WoW and how much I loved and missed Vanilla/BC WoW and even parts of Wrath.

Anyways let those who love the game keep believing there is nothing wrong with the game and the population is just growing in the herds.

Still I have no clue why SOE kept with the nge when their subs went from under 300k to 50k in a very short time. They should have reverted it back while they still had a chance imo.

There is no telling though how many subs would currently be playing today (if they never switched to the nge). At its peak it never got over 300k subs. With all the options out there now, as back then SWG came out before WoW, so who knows.

GW2 is definitely not the game a lot of people expected nor is it getting any better. But at least it is free monthly unless you using the cash shop.

Ohhhhh just because you do and the server your on dictates it all for the other servers huh? I see now. I guess all of us are blind and making it up. Yeah that’s it. And I guess people saying their friends list of 30+ now only has 5 people logging on are lying too huh?

You do know there are more than 1 server right? Also I seriously doubt you have 50 guildees on at a time. If you do I will bet it rarely happens and it lasted maybe 10 mins if it even did happen.

So yeah don’t be upset because a lot of the servers are dead. They need a merger so that way they can seem a little more active.

If there was a monthly fee, no one would play. Sorry, not no one, but people would be quitting in massive droves right now. Think about that really hard and ask why. I am seeing people leveling up my second character, but its not the same at all. People are less chatty and more just doing their own thing. They’re skipping events, because they know the rewards are mostly useless except for karma, which they can farm a lot faster in Orr. The first 30-40 levels the first couple of weeks was REALLY cool, but then people started out-leveling me and I was alone for a zone or 2. Then came Orr…yikes!!!

I certainly would’ve quit at about the 1 1/2 month mark, probably not even bothering to get my 2nd toon past lvl 20 or so. I’m leveling up another just because I can, not because its ANYWHERE near as fun as my 1st. And seeing the zones I missed with a new character is more interesting than steamrolling it all on my 80 with Exotics. Besides, going back to easily destroy other zones without any sort of character growth is BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNG! Why do any hearts when the rewards are useless? They’re not challenging or any different than what I did in the other zones. 100% map completion also means nothing because as I’ve found the 1st time around, the rewards are boring as well. Transmutation stones for gear I’m going to out-level in another couple of hours? Why? Coin? Yaaawn. Gear I can’t even use? What does a Necro need with heavy armor or a sword? It should be tuned to your class at least.

Most people moved on after hitting 80, if you haven’t reached 80 yet then it’s deffinetly worth dooing that, but after reaching 80 there is absolutly nothing fun/rewarding in this game to do, spvp is broken at the core, WvW suffers from some very bad design-decitions (nightcapping, commanders, balancing,…) that result in frustation and the dungeon stuff is just too grindy.
Off course the fanboys will tell you otherwise but looking at your friendlist/going to the mists will tell you the truth about the state of the game.

1) This is 2012 and amusement parks cost a lot more than $60 a day.

2) People can post wherever and whenever and about whatever they like. You don’t need to forum police. The mods can close or move this if needed. You don’t like what people say too bad. But I bet you are fine with multiple threads of people praising the game right?

Grinding in the non-grinding MMO

The point is that it’s not required to be en par with other players.

Are you serious? You can say that about any mmo then. And sorry but it IS required if you want to do good. Don’t hand me this load of BS saying it isn’t required. WoW isn’t required to be on par either.

I can’t believe how people can even justify their comments when they basically flat out lied and doing the complete opposite. I bet if they said the sky is green the same people defending their comments here would find a way to defend that too.

This is the most ironic quote ever,

“Most MMOs these days make you grind and do really repetitive, boring content over and over again."

LMAO. All this game is, is repetitive, boring content over and over again. Dungeon grinding. Leveling is the ultimate boring repetitive thing I have seen to date in an mmo. Farming an event over and over again to just get xp isn’t repetitive or boring? They are the same events all areas.

Your last statement says it all: “The game is meant to be fun.”

But, sadly it is not. It is work. It is grinding, excruciating work. Crafting is a joke. It has no merit, nothing you craft is worth anything. “Farm Events”? Repetitive grinding is not “fun” in my book. Perhaps I am just not the right kind of gamer for Guild Wars.

Most of my friends who began the game with me in BWE1 have already left. Most “well brained” people do not enjoy tedium. I am only still around because my last spark of hope for Guild Wars has not yet been completely snuffed out by their idiotic decisions.

You should probably just quit, obviously you arent enjoying it and have gotten to the point where your mind wont let you enjoy any of the content.

And this just proves my point about this community. He gives constructive criticism and then told he should just quit the game. “Oh no. Someone is talking bad about my precious game.” Maybe they are bored etc. but have interest in the game still and hoping some things change. They have every right to voice their opinions on the game as much as you do praising it.

Your friends aren’t the only ones. I started off with this guild from ToR which is a good size gaming community guild who has many players in many mmos, but they and many others from this guild wanted to play GW2. So we did and 90% left within the month. Now there is basically no one left on of the many that started.

Everything you said is correct. But to add, I thought this was supposed to be a fun and good type of pvp based game. But the pvp came up way short and found nothing new or exciting in the pvp that made me want to play. I never played GW1 and heard the pvp was awesome so when GW2 announced they were going to add a lot more pve to the game as well, then I was stoked because I am an end game raider but wanted to try some fun pvp.

Well the pve ended being pretty boring and extremely grindish and repetitive. Like you said the farming of events, 1 whole heart quest per area, and then you had to farm crafting too if you wanted more xp and sorry but not a fan of that. I cleared the zones and ended up 4 levels short of the next zone to where I had to either just keep farming the events which I already was doing, craft, or go to a whole new starter zone to catch up. Sorry but I shouldn’t have to do that. They should have added a lot more quest type content.

If only they would represent their point of view in some other way than making hundred threads about how this game sucks, and how they are leaving the game right freaking now.

Actually many people do and you would know this if you took the time to read them instead of taking all of them as just, “This game sucks.” But the problem is, once someone says anything negative about this game, be it constructive or not, you and the others who cherish this game can’t seem to accept it and need to challenge them and say they are wrong and that they shouldn’t play the game etc.

Not to just single you out but that is how, well you know, the fb word, act. That is one of the reasons why this community is so bad along with Tera. No one can say anything negative about their precious game.

So if you really weren’t a fb, you would have seen many good posts on why this game does suck. There is even one a couple posts under yours on the first page too.

What is there for non-casual players?

We have WvW which I don’t like because its dry and repetitive and has game breaking issues. I also don’t feel like farming for a legendary atm. So what is there to do? Just SPvP? SPvP doesn’t even have a good matchmaking system it allows for people who have no clue what they are doing and little PvP experience to play against people who have skill and know what they are doing. The game feels like it’s tailored for casual players who only get on for about an hour and a half every couple days.

That’s basically it but people will tell you “Explorer, craft, keep running a dungeon over and over again”.

So what you said actually sums it up though.

I’m seriously wondering why people are even on this forum when all they have to say about this game are negative things.if you honestly think the game is so bad, easy, and has nothing new to bring, why are you here ? Do you even still play the game ? Whats the point of it all besides boring people with your tldrdrdlrdlr ? And do you realize the game has been released for just 2 months,Did you play gw1 and think about how that game was when it just started, and how it turned out to be with all the added expansions ? There is soo much kitten bs on this forum it’s incredible.

People purchased this game like so why are we not allowed to post what we want? Only positive things allowed? Check other gaming forums. This goes on everywhere. People can post as many negative things they want just like those posting positives.

Music, art, leveling have all been praised again and again, so I am going to discuss the common complaints people seem to have in Guild Wars 2.

1- “Hearts and Dynamic Events are just like regular quests, kill this, protect that..”

Easily the most common complaint people have, and I simply cant understand the reasoning, its like complaining about Super Mario Galaxy because all you do is jump and collect stars, or complain about Portal 2 because all you do is complete puzzles and ride elevators.

What did you expect? Its a fantasy RPG, of course you are going to spend most of your time protecting villages and killing bad guys and collecting treasure, that’s the ENTIRE point of the genre! This game did it in a way I have never seen an MMO do it, I actually enjoy exploring every corner of Tyria and completing every heart and D/E I see, I agree that there is more room for variety but this is a huge step foward in the genre, this game spoiled me in a way that I could never go back to older questing models.

2- “There is nothing to do when you hit 80”

When I hit 80, I still had only 60% of the entire map explored, I am still working on exploring all the map and finishing every single heart and vista and skill point, when I am tired of exploring I run dungeons and do WvWvW and complete puzzles, I am still probably missing a lot of activities that I am unaware of but the point is.. this game offers a LOT of content, and much more is being added on top of no subscription fee!. What more can we ask for?

The game isn’t perfect, stealth is too strong in pvp, tagging mobs in orr can be difficult for some classes, finding groups for dungeons is rather punitive, and home cities desperately need more tourists, but a game this young did so many other things right, i am not worried for time and patience will wash away all the minor flaws.

Hats off to Arenanet for creating the best MMO to date, the forums can sometimes be negative and grumpy but that does not reflect the opinion on the majority of the playerbase, most gamers are too busy enjoying their time playing the game instead of posting, so naturally angsty players are more vocal.

Excelsior

Cool glad you like it but this is all just you opinion. This is by far not the best mmo to date. I would rate it #5. SWG was even better.

The questing system is horrible and not sure which game you are playing but the hearts and dynamic events are NOTHING like quests. Well the heart one is I will say but you only get to do one per area but that is just like doing 1 quest. The dynamic events are the same 3 everywhere and extremely boring and repetitive. You either escort, kill a boss or defend an area. Then you need to keep farming those in that area if you want to level for the next zone.

Finishing a zone 5-6 levels under to where you HAVE to go to a new starter zone to catch up is ridiculous.

Using exploration as content/end game excuse just shows you how much content lacks. Exploration is a poor excuse for content.

But to each is own. Maybe once they fix things and add more content the huge drop off of people leaving the game may start to level off.

People are way too used to gear treadmills. So ingrained because they never played anything other than that one type of game.

There is an endgame in GW2, and it’s fantastic.

Care to explain what it is? I have 100% world completion and can’t name anything else to do.

WvW, sPvP, alts, working on your legendary, playing the Trading Post, farming, dungeons, exploring further (even at 100% there is still a lot to find in the world, as I was surprised to find out).

The fantastic thing about GW2 is you have so many things you can do every time you log in. The only thing this game is missing would be the gear treadmill, which to many people is a great thing.

Ummm you can do this on all mmo’s also. How is this any different? Also adding farming, trading post and exploration as part of end game just shows you how much it lacks content wise. Exploration is always the poorest excuse of content but to throw in the trading past, that is just mind blowing.

It’s ok. Some people here simply can’t accept the fact that their precious mmo is declining in players logging in/people stop playing. They are not being replaced by new people either. Some servers may look very populated and other servers dead like people have said but of course they must be wrong. This happens on every mmo, even WoW. WoW could use a server merger along with Tera and Rift. But most of us know the truth that the peak came and went fast and the arrow is pointing downward for the game.

What would grandma rather get little Jimmy for Christmas: a $15-a-month 7-yr old game plus all expansions costing nearly $120, or a subscription free GW2 for $60 one-time box cost? That’s an easy choice for them to make.

Your numbers are way off. Please remove the prices or update them accordingly. GW2 is a lot cheaper as is WoW.

I belive alot of people stop playing already, but they are replaced, if there wasn’t alot of people who stoped playing then with the new players coming every day the servers would be all crashed.

What I feel it changed in the game I feel a bit alone, even with alot of people arround me, but they just passing by.

Replaced by who? LMAO that’s why their box sales haven’t grown much since after a month of launch and sorry but there is no way new people come close the number of people who stopped playing. Servers are dead. I would say over half. I am on a heavily populated server and see no one. Made a new toon to see if even anyone was in the starter zone and it was empty.

Just because the server says “full” that ALL zones will be packed… keep in mind how long the game has been out… most of everyone is probably lvl 80 and already in the high end zones farming, etc… or doing all the dungeons for tokens.

Or stopped playing the game because it is boring.

The game has no sub. Why not just log in and check it out for yourself.

^ Basically this. That is the beauty of the game. But if you are looking for a lot of fixes and better stuff and more content and less grindy fell then nope nothing has changed. They had some Halloween event but had no desire to try it out. A new “one-time world event” is coming soon too but still no desire to start playing again.

If you got bored and stopped earlier then you likely will do the same now imo. I logged on for the first time in awhile and got bored after 10 mins and no one was around either.

Then again, which game really has lots of people in the starting zones? Before cross realm zones, SWTOR and WoW used to have less than 10 people leveling in each zone on high pop realms.

Actually ToR has tons of people in all zones now since the last server merger awhile back. Was on Tatooine on a Wed day and it had 82 people there. Starter zones will always have tons of people and so far while leveling an alt since that server merger, I have yet to see any dead zone or any population lower than 50-60.

WoW I saw some around goldshire and the starting zone but overall not sure about the other zones because I am not an alt fan on WoW like I am with ToR. But I can see WoW more dead in the zones because the game is so old now and with all the new zones and worlds, it is pretty huge. GW2 is still a very new game and already took a huge dive in people logging in (non bots) and this game was supposed to be GotY and the end all to other mmo’s etc.

Might want to try and get your point across easier without needing to write a novel. I wouldn’t call it a wall of text because you used paragraphs at least, but having 2 full post sections is a bit much for internet video game forums. I know I honestly stopped reading quickly.

Really getting tired of people thinking the way they play is the only way to play, and asking for “progress reports” before allowing someone to criticize the game

Well said lacrimstein!

I’m not a WoW player, so I’ve never done a raid, but they sound fun, and I would like to see them.
A bit of a side note, I think there should be small karma rewards to doing things that would normally help fill in a heart, even though it’s already filled. It’s just a bit bothering to me that I have the ability to help a NPC in a way such as bringing defense plans to some guy, but I don’t get anything because I’ve already filled in that heart.

Hehe, the side note was bigger than my first comment.

In a way you are lucky you never experienced WoW end game back in Vanilla and BC because then you would be spoiled like a lot of us. The best end game ever. Now over all no one has even come close. Not even other WoW expansions. Cata was the worst. MoP has gotten a lot better but still nothing like it was. Wrath had Ulduar and ICC wasn’t horrible. But back to my point, you may enjoy end game more so then others since you didn’t get to experience Vanilla or BC WoW.

But if you want to see them then you will need to play WoW, ToR, Rift or LotR as I feel those are your best options for end game right now. I never tried Rifts or LotR but heard they are ok. I really like ToR’s end game as they have an actual storyline feel but they made them too short and a little too easy. WoW is still the best though.

Why can't I get myself to play?

@OP

Hate to say it but sounds like you aren’t having fun with any of the game. What you described is pretty much the game besides pvp. This probably isn’t for you. I agree with you a lot on what you said as I stopped playing for now too, but I was made to believe this game was about pvp or at least pvp focused and I am not much of a pvper but wanted to give it a shot with this game and ended up being very disappointed in it.

The good news for us though is it is free monthly anyways. I would just suggest not even logging on anymore until you get the urge. If you keep forcing yourself you will only keep hating the game. As for me I am just hoping and gonna wait for better content and hopefully better pvp.

But you said it best. Having exploration as a main form of content is a joke.
