I already stopped playing the game about 2-3 weeks in because it simply got extremely repetitive and boring for me, BUT I still think it was worth it because it is free monthly and I will get the same content as everyone and I am sure I will get the itch to start playing again. I know I got bored fast but it was at launch and as time passes I am sure things will get fixed and change etc. So yeah even though I don’t play anymore for now, I still think it was worth it.
I just wanted to comment on the dungeon finder thing. This is one thing I don’t understand why also it takes awhile after launch to finally get one in. IMO it should be a standard now. I know some still debate this and “how it ruins a community” which is completely false, but it should be a priority. I was actually upset with Rift and ToR because I enjoy leveling and being able to que for a dungeon while leveling really helps. Plus it is a huge benefit to those who don’t have lots of playing time. Why should people sit in a main city or zone spamming “lfg for…” Yes this is how it was done but things change. So I missed out on all the 5 man type dungeons while leveling which was a huge disappointment. I love changing it up while leveling doing some dungeons.
Still going at it are we Stark. Please stop kidding yourself!
sPVP has four maps, one game mode, and is unbalanced class wise – unplayable after a short while!
WvW has very long queue times so out goes any casual players almost immediately, people don’t want to wait around for hours. Again WvW has no meaning, besides going around in huge groups, or “zerging” as it’s referred to, just all very repetitive, and can be very laggy too!
Dungeons you have to stand around shouting out in map chat to attempt to find a group to begin with, nothing more needed to say on that matter.
World Boss encounter? Ok do that once, job done.
Achievements, I mean really, why? It’s a virtual number going up with no relevance. Nobody can see them, they serve no purpose, so just why?!
Maxing crafting levels serves no purpose what so ever either, the main reason for the majority are so you can craft exotic gear…which you can just purchase a full set for between 10-20 gold from the trading post. Certainly doesn’t take long.
To sum it up, this game doesn’t have a carrot on a stick, nor does it have any replayability or any fun factor once level 80 has been reached, thus other games with a “carrot on a stick” per say, will probably be more suited to other people, and maybe more fun too! Thanks.
^ Bingo!
Stark you really should put down the Kool-aid. This must be your first mmo though because you trying to bash “the other game” failed bad. MoP actually has a lot of fun to offer. So please don’t bash another game if you haven’t played it.
because metacritic scores mean something right? ask any serious reviewer they all agree that metacritic is a load of crap and always has been. I am not saying that GW2 is bad, but certainly not game of the year… are plenty of other games are far better…
1: Mass Effect 3 has better voice acting, story, and game play and is far more accessable
2: DCUO has better combat system, story and voice acting and is FREE! to try
3: Torchlight 2 has less resources,/funds, and is far more affordable and argueablly more additcing.
GW2 may well rank as on of the top mmos but game of the year? i dont think so…
^ Pretty much this. But like someone else said, “there hasn’t been a mmo winning”. Why would GW2 all of a sudden win it? WoW Vanilla and BC blow GW2 out of the water easily and never won Game of the Year. But you ask this question on the fans forums of course they will say GW2.
I really hate when people need a trivial number (ie arena rating in WoW) to make a game worth playing. At the end of the day, you should be playing the game because YOU ENJOY IT and not to see larger crits or purple text on the names of your gear or your pointless arena rating going up. You can become a better player without a rating, prove it to people with action rather than a rating to hide behind.
What does this have to do with the topic? I don’t see anyone here saying they need that stuff. I see people answering the question. When people say they don’t like the game doesn’t mean they only like WoW and need ranking numbers and purples. You seem to be reading wayyy to much into the question.
Every game for the most part is based on some sort of progression or else why play? Single player console games you play to finish the game which is a form of progression. FPS games now offer upgrades on weapons and armor so that is a form of progression.
MMO’s people play for either pvp or pve. The very minority plays to just chill. Even if you are just a crafter that is still a form of progression because you are leveling that skill up. Heck even if you just play for the story and level that is progression because you can’t see the next zone if you don’t level.
I don’t see how you can just play an mmo for fun without any type of progression. Even in SWG if you just danced in a cantina all day you still had to progress to learn dancing and the skill. But for me I play for end game raiding and I love competing for server firsts and progressing. It is my choice to be in guilds like that but there are many who just like to see this content slowly at their own pace. It is still progression.
Removing levels like TSW still means nothing because you have to level your skills then.
Anyways since mmo’s really have no end to them, it is all about different types of progression.
Total waste of time and money. I wish I could get my money back.
There is literally no depth to the PVP in this game. WoW laughs at this game’s pvp.
LMAO WoW pvp is a joke. dancing around line of site and getting your heals, from a healer class… rofl.
gw2 is a great game well worth 60 bucks . little to many bugs in the necro class.
I think you missed his sarcasm. Seemed like he was saying GW2 which is pvp based is such a joke right now that WoW’s pvp which sucks also is even laughing at GW2’s pvp. Like a nerd kid laughing at a nerdier kid.
MMOs typically are never in the running for GOTY awards. I can’t ever remember seeing one win such a title anyway…
Good point. I have a feeling though in all honesty it may be Diablo 3. Trust me I know how bad it is etc. but it has the sales and it still has tons of people logging on to play.
Maybe. But Call of Duty or Assassins Creed will probably get it. Because as we all know the more a game sells the better it is. Diablo 3 and the Call of Duty series are testaments to that fact. Other people are claiming that the new Bioshock game will be GoTY. They may have a fair point there but I’m not to much into that series so I don’t know that much about it.
The new Bioshock doesn’t come out till Feb next year unless it gets pushed back more. So how can that be GoTY?
GW2 will not get it over any Call of Duty game. Res Evil 6 will even be ahead of GW2. ToR will be over GW2 also even though people here think it sucks, EA has a lot of money and power and I like ToR and still play it. Way better questing system and end game. Probably even better pvp then GW2 and ToR’s pvp is horrible.
It’s funny how people here keep ripping on WoW yet I bet most of them played for at least a year. Also people need to stop comparing any game to “WoW” in general and start comparing it to the latest or recent expansion because this game and any other MMO out there today will NEVER come close to Vanilla WoW or BC. If Vanilla WoW was out this year I will bet anyone $89753977 it would win GOTY over GW2 or any mmo.
As far as Cata I will admit it was the worst expansion ever along with the worst end game made from them. I was a hard core raider until Cata which made me take a break. MoP just came out and seems many flocked back to try it out. 30 min ques to just log in. So far to me it is just another expansion which doesn’t come close to BC but I haven’t tried the end game yet.
Omega said it best about the game.
But for GOTY who is it up against?
2nd thoughts about what? Buying the game?
(this is just how I feel so please fanbois don’t get all bent out of shape)
I will say I already stopped playing for now because for me I just got bored of it fast. The questing system at first seemed pretty fun but became extremely repetitive. I know questing in general is like that, but for GW2 I simply got bored of it fast. Especially out leveling the zone by 5 and having to go to other starter zones was a huge turn off.
Yes I know pvping and crafting gets xp also but some people simply aren’t into crafting or pvping while leveling.
The graphics were a lot better then I expected and the UI and movement was pretty well done. I think another reason which got me bored was each zone was pretty much the same ambiance/scenery wise. I know not exactly the same as there are marshes and caves and fields etc. but it always felt like I was in a forest type area. Whereas I look at ToR and WoW and I could tell I was in a completely different area. I know there are other areas like snow and stuff, but the other starter zone I went too was forest in the fall.
Don’t get me wrong the ambiance/scenery looks wise was great but for me just seemed like the same ole same ole while finding new zones. Also I am not one who likes to have to farm one thing to keep getting xp which if you do the questing system you basically need to farm events like mad. The heart quest doesn’t give much and you do it once.
Sure this game may not be for me, but I don’t hate the game nor ever regret buying it because it is free to play. So if I get the urge to play a little some more I can.
I played 6 years of wow. I looked at it last night. Blzzard has ruined the game IMO. It just looks like a little kid cartoon. “Kung fu panda WoW” I for one could never go back to WoW. If you want to go play WoW, no one is stopping you. Blizzard would love to get your money.
You probably didn’t play Warcraft 3 then because the Pandas came from the game. People keep thinking this is a whole new story and Kung fu panda but it isn’t. I will definitely agree with you the game has gone down a lot especially with Cata. But like it or not, the game is still holding the most active subs of any mmo and from the looks of last night, people seemed to be anxious for MoP.
I guess you look at the other options out there and there still isn’t much. So people coming back where they may have started or liked the most. I know I am giving it another shot for end game in hopes it is better than Cata was.
Nice post mate. Its true, it seems like no other MMO can beat WoW, some people may think that “their” MMO has beaten WoW, but thats not true at all. I hoped GW2 would, i also really thought it would, by all the trailers, gameplay, and screenshots, i saw before release, i really thought that, THIS IS IT, this will be the end of WoW.
But i guess thats not gonna happen.Though i hope someone will soon create a modern day MMO, kinda like “The Secret World” Just better/more scary/good graphics. That would be AWESOME!
People will keep bashing WoW and I will promise you most of the people played WoW for more than a year too. WoW was a great game. They hit 13 mil subs which no mmo will ever do again. Even those who left the game still kept accounts active. Yes a lot of people had multiple subs, but hey it is still a sub nevertheless.
Basically the next best mmo will need to do what WoW did. Take things/ideas from others games but make them 100000000 x’s better. What you need is a huge lore/story. For how many copies of Warcraft 1-3 sold, people knew the lore which helped sell WoW. I really think Blizzard should have taken Diablo and made it World of Diablo and make it scary and hellish. Make it like Vanilla WoW but obviously in the Diablo world. How awesome would it be to walk through Tristam like Stormwind? Or even a World of Starcraft where it can have ground and air pvp and 3 factions. There is a lot of lore there too.
But yeah games tried like The Secret World but just seems like they get old fast.
The World of Diablo is a sick idea! you should write it to Blizzard haha! It would be amazing, if they made it scary as hell, and not like the childish Mist of pandaria :oooo
I wish but they already said long ago before D3 that they wouldn’t be making a World of Diablo or Star Craft. Not to say they may change their mind but they are already working on Titan. So anything else would be 10 years out.
WoW for more than a year too. WoW was a great game. They hit 13 mil subs which no mmo will ever do again. Even those who left the game still kept accounts active. Yes a lot of people had multiple subs, but hey it is still a sub nevertheless.

You are right. It requires a ton of lore/story for a game to have that “Epic” feel to it. And on top of that it needs to have stellar game design and activities that are engrossing over a long period of time, as well as rock-solid coding mechanics. In addition, it must please both the casual and powergamer. Not an easy feat.
Titan is coming.
I’m a little worried about Titan though. A FPS MMO? TSW was kind of like that and imo got old fast too. But Blizzard has even been quoting saying it will be a very casual mmo. So I am not expecting much and kind of disappointed. But I haven’t seen or played it so we’ll see.
Ahhh fair enough. I forgot about EVE. I don’t know how much it is growing but are you comparing it from launch also? I mean LotR is growing too but that is only after they lost tons of subs and went f2p. I am not trolling just asking because I don’t play EVE but know a lot of people who play it love it.
no you dont really care how many others feel the same. your post is a covert whine designed to complain about the game and attract others who feel the same so you can feel good about yourself. like all other threads of this nature.
cuz you asked the question “is the game losing its appeal?” objectively answered, no it is not, because half the servers are still full at peak times and there is still huge interest in the game. but you knew this. basically, you just wanted to whine and get attention.
Where do you get your facts from? “because half the servers are still full at peak times and there is still huge interest in the game” Can you please post a link from a legit source that says this please or are you just assuming? Still huge interest? No it isn’t losing it’s appeal? Sorry but your answers are all just your opinion based.
I would bet money the interest has gone done since launch and the login at peak time from launch has gone down as well.

That’s great you see tons of people in all events. Others don’t. If you think the people logging on now compared to launch is greater or very close to it then you are blind. Being this is free to play you can’t really count subs or accounts because they don’t need to cancel accounts when they leave the game. I stopped playing but not going to cancel my account because I may get an itch to play again or even just play an hour maybe down the road.
I have nothing against the game but to think people haven’t stopped logging on is just insane. I wish there was a chart to show the times of day from launch to now. I will guarantee you the chart lines are downward and not just barley lower.
I know the fanbois will get all mad at my post and trust me I have nothing against the game. I do love the fact that if I get the itch again to play I can without paying.
But the game for me I already got bored of. To me the leveling system was fun at first but now it has gotten sooo repetitive it isn’t even fun. I know leveling is always repetitive, but this takes the cake. You go to explore a new zone, do the heart quest, find the teleports and scenic thing, then just farm events. Having to go to new starter zones to help leveling I think is lame. Sure you see new content, fine, but I shouldn’t have to. Oh right I don’t, I can just keep farming the same events non stop.
Crafting is my thing. I know you get xp for it and while exploring I would gather etc. and craft, but I shouldn’t have to rely on crafting also to level. I never had issues with the normal questing systems of WoW, Rift, ToR, LotR, EQ, etc.
Anyways I think the game is losing its appeal to people. Anyone who thinks the population of people logging in hasn’t dropped a lot is blind. The hype is gone and usually after a month of any mmo it does. There hasn’t been a mmo that the subs for example, keep growing each month since WoW. ToR is the only other mmo that has even come close to 2 mil subs at one point. Granted they dropped way off now but now a days mmo’s just haven’t competed with WoW. I don’t know if one ever will. Not even Blizzards new mmo will I think. WoW took stuff from other mmo’s that most never played or heard of but actually made it 1000000 x’s better which is why now everyone tries to mock WoW.
After a month people leave the game if they are bored or didn’t enjoy it. It’s like the opening of a new restaurant. The first month you have 1-2 hour waits. Once they hype is gone it goes to 20 mins. If the place is amazing then it stays 1-2 hrs if not longer.
GW2 is hard to compare to others because you can go by subs. This since there is none just accounts and since it is free monthly people won’t cancel accounts. But without a doubt the login population has dropped a lot since launch.
I know for me I got bored of the game and haven’t logged on recently but I like the fact it is free so I can if I get the itch. All games aren’t for everyone and I know I am not the only one who has stopped playing GW2 for now. Since WoW, I don’t think any game has grown in population after the first month after a release.
Lots of stuff in the game right now making people upset like the bots, balancing of pvp along with how boring the pvp is right now among other things. It definitely already hit its peak on launch.
