Ok this confuses me. I am a pve raider and prefer it over anything and that is how I judge a game I want to play (mmo wise). I came to GW 2 because I thought this was going to be pvp based and all about pvp with some pve of course like leveling and a couple 5 man type dungeons. I am not much into pvp but was hoping to try it out some and have a new and fresh experience with it. Yes I pvp some in WoW and ToR but just having fun in the bg’s etc.
So now people are wanting end game raiding in a game not meant to? I think Arena Net should really focus on their pvp first because right now I think it is very boring and not fun at all nor what I was expecting. I think they should stick with what they are best at and that is pvp.
This may be just me and please don’t say this game might not be for you then, because as far as I expected, I thought pvp was going to be the main point.
People who hack likely will be banned. I don’t know why people are saying it isn’t illegal unless they mean law wise, but it is a very bannable offense. Hopefully they do something soon but they may be more focused on the bots first right now.
Sorry but at work and reading a book right now I don’t have time for but I saw the “WoW & clones: Raiding and the gear treadmill” part.
I am not sure GW2 is about PvE and end game. They added a lot in to appease more fans, but overall GW2 is pvp based and likely will focus more on that. I love raiding thanks to WoW and was hard core from vanilla WoW to beginning of Cata. Quit because Cata was horrible and then came back for MoP but on a casual schedule. There will not be another mmo that will come close to WoW’s endgame from Vanilla/BC and Ulduar.
So wanting a good end game in GW2 especially involving raiding, I don’t see happening here. IMO GW2 should have stuck to what it was best at and from what I heard about GW1 was the pvp. Focusing on pve for them while the pvp as of now is boring and bleh is a bad idea. The only 3 games with an end game or at least a decent to good end game right now is WoW, ToR and Rift. Haven’t tried Rift but heard it was decent. ToR’s is good but too short and a little to easy and WoW’s MoP is a lot better than Cata and the dungeons a lot better made mechanics wise and more of a challenge. Still not close to Vanilla or BC but it is still the best end game for raiding out.
People may say end game and pve but to me this is a pvp based game so I wasn’t expecting much for an end game pve wise and I am glad I didn’t because the pve isn’t that good. But what it is lacking is what it is supposed to be about….. pvp. I am not much of a pvper and am an end game raider, but I got GW2 in hopes for a fun and different pvp experience. But after playing it some and reading a lot from those who actually pvp on other games, I find it lacking a lot. Very disappointed in it so far.
“If you have 100% exploration” any mmo that has exploration as a huge part of content says a lot. That is the worst excuse for content.
@OP
Please know I am not saying this in a condescending way but it does show you haven’t been in the mmo area for a few years. This is the norm now on the forums. Every mmo after WoW people have complained about content and wanting more etc. Unfortunately the first month has always been the peak and drops big time after. Not one mmo after WoW has continued to go up, well at least not after taking a huge drop. People rush to max level and get bored. But in some cases people are correct in wanting more so quickly. Age of Conan had a horrible launch of content. Once you finished the starter area there was almost no content after. They also had a huge spot, forgot the level range, but had 0 content so you couldn’t really level. Took a long time for them to get this content out.
But in all honesty imo GW2 simply lacks a lot. The pvp is mediocre which this game is supposed to be about. Leveling was the worst i have seen. Believe it or not I am thankful for the quest system now. Having to farm events over and over in each zone is dumb especially when there are basically only 3 types of events. Escort, kill a boss or defend an area.
I will say at least ToR came out with new content extremely quick. Only mmo to do that. Yes then they hit a roadblock but people still don’t understand why. They know about the firings and new direction for the game but they don’t understand all that is pretty big in house and takes a lot of time to figure out and get back on track. So of course there was no new content or info because there was no direction set. Now that there is they are pumping out content quickly again.
I have said it before but no mmo will ever be like WoW was nor have those numbers. MMO’s will continue to be hyped and after a month drop big time and 6 months later it will level out and will basically stay that way for awhile. Each will have its own fan base who will stay. Expansions will bring some back and some new people but will be wash and rinse as it will drop a month after.
I don’t see GW2 failing since it is no monthly fee, but the peak definitely has already hit and people logging on and time spent on I will bet any money it is way down from the first 3 weeks of launch. Heck I am not giving up on the game even though right now I really am not liking it, but new content may help and I am going to give it time which is why I stopped playing for now. If you aren’t having fun then why play?
But patience is the biggest key which many people will never have when it comes to mmos. I always tell people to wait 3 to 6 months before playing a new mmo if you can’t handle bugs and lack of content.
3 Modes in this PvP… WvW, S PvP and TPvP…
S PvP, 8v8 zerg fest that encourages meta Burst builds to max out points by not rewarding defense.
WvW, Even larger Zerg fest, feeling of individuality is gone entirely.
T PvP, organized objective game instead of having skillful fights, that narrows builds even further into solid Metas that everyone recognizes.
PvP for me….theres no point in playing if i can’t play what i want to, and where i just end up a number instead of a Player and win 50/50 in the most available PvP, due to chance.
So if i don’t want to play an unskilled Meta build and enjoy a weapon/skillset that is entirely unviable, how do i get to enjoy PvP?
As of now the pvp is pretty much boring and a let down. I was looking forward to some new and exciting type of pvp since I don’t pvp much on “other” mmo’s but was extremely disappointed with GW2 pvp. Heck I have more fun in warzones and bg’s than here.
I hate to say it but this game already peaked and won’t even come close to the logins they had the first few weeks of launch. I am not bashing the game but it seems the trend for all mmo’s after WoW peak within the first month then drop big time. WoW (besides those before WoW) was the only game that kept gaining and gaining subs. I know GW2 is harder to base subs on since it is free, but you can always tell by the logins.
I don’t know what it is but not one mmo that I recall after WoW kept gaining subs and still gains (without taking a huge loss first).
So thoughts for the future are I think this game will still be around but isn’t going to peak again. It will keep a fan base like all the others but that’s about it. As for hopes I don’t know. I was expecting more from this game but lost interest extremely fast. I am not a huge pvper on other games and I am a hard core raider, but I was hoping to have a new and fun pvp experience in this game as I thought it was going to be based pretty much on pvp but ended up being pretty boring imo. Even the pve wasn’t all that good. But I don’t regret my purchase and hope things change because after all it is free to play so I hope in time it does get better.
WoW already does this with their app and allows you to log into guild chat and purchase items in the AH.
If GW2 does something like this they will make them for both Android and iOS.
I think they are closing them because they are aware of it and it adds clutter. I agree for the most part the time to close them down is now or at least merge them all into 1 active thread. But the continuous posting about it and new topics about it, is getting a bit much so I can see why they do that now and agree for the most part.
At first when WoW brought in titles I was meh about it, but when they started nerfing end game and removing attunements which meant removing the title, I began loving the titles then. Example Hand of A’dal. Nice to have because it showed you did something that was pretty difficult for some. And no one can ever get that title again. Also not sure if they did but removing the Light of the Dawn title once Cata came out.
Sure some titles are dumb and meaningless sure, but putting a lot of work into some and then having it stop once it becomes easy to get I think means a lot. Do I need a title to show what I have done or brag? No. I wear them because it brings back fond memories or getting it and the work involved so I wear them proudly.
I like how people defend the game so much that they tell the OP he needs to play differently. Shouldn’t have to change how they play. The price simply is outrageous and needs to come down or add types of mounts which I know most will hate but it already is a pain for some to make money. I wish for once fanbois could just admit when things are wrong and potentially game breaking.
Hey all,
I was wondering if it’s a nice idea to have the message of the day pop up in the chat every time you log in or something?
Because I feel kind of useless to put a message of the day because I don’t know if people will read it and with this idea everyone gets the message.
What are you thinking about this idea?
If it is like WoW where it is just there and spammed out when people talk then I don’t see why not. If it becomes like a popup like when you log into vent then HECK NO! I hate that.
@Conncept
"
Racism? What server is he playing on? This is the nicest group of people I’ve ever played with. If he thinks this game is full of racists and bigots, he better never set foot in any blizzard-owned game as he’ll likely die of shock. Problems with botting on the other hand cannot be denied, but ANet is adressing them, slowly, like they do just about everything."
You’re kidding right? This is one of the worst communities ever. Tera is the worst, this would be 2nd worst imo. WoW is nowhere near as bad but does have a lot more kids who talk a lot but for the active subs vs GW2, GW2 is by far worse.
Being able to gather while in combat is awesome and a huge plus. Too many people now-a-days love to steal your node. They see you attack the mob by the node and then will go in and take it while you fight. Happens way too often. This prevents that and I feel it is a good thing.
What I want from an MMO is what Vanilla/BC WoW gave me and I love what ToR gave me although yes needs some improvements but it has and still does keep my interest a lot.
GW2 I wasn’t expecting exactly what I wanted because I know this was supposed to be more pvp based. After playing it and getting bored extremely fast, no this wasn’t what I wanted from an mmo. The graphics and major cities were awesome. The terrain in all the zones and graphics were amazing, but the leveling for me was extremely boring and repetitive and preferred “the norm” way of questing to level.
For being a pvp centric game, I really feel it lacked to some of those pve based games with pvp. Of course I wasn’t looking for this to be like WoW or a pve based game, but at least something different and fun. I don’t mind pvp but hearing they were also going to add a lot more pve compared to GW1 then I had to try it. Was hoping for more and maybe a lot better pvp but it is free monthly so maybe one things get fixed and a lot more things get added I will try it again.
I did not though buy into the hype. I mean sure the hype is what got my attention but I wasn’t counting down the days or anything.
But from hearing from a lot of GW1 players, it sounds like they feel GW1 is way better than GW2. I never played it so I don’t know but just seeing how it is now on my server versus launch, it has been decreasing in population.
Guild Wars 1 was a good game, so is GW2 largely. Where I think it goes wrong though, certainly for GW1 players, is in the compromises that have been made to attract WoW fans (leveling, gear grind, easy mode). GW2 goes too far away for fans of Guild Wars 1, but not far enough for fans of WoW style MMOs. It’s trying to be all things to all men, but just succeeds in striking an uneasy balance that falls between the two stools.
Excellent points and agreed. I think that is why more people are leaving because I will admit I got the game because I read there will be a lot more pve this time but imo it wasn’t done the way a pve based game would do and they tried to make it their own. I think they should have stuck to their roots and made a new and improved GW1. Like EQ2 did. Yes it was a little more WoWish but it still kept to the EQ1 roots in a way. Look what happened to SWG when they revamped their game to be like WoW.
Not saying GW2 failed in the least but going with what you said makes the most sense.
If you get disappointed all the time, how about lowering your expectations for a change.
Dueling has been mentioned and probably will be implemented at some point. But it’s not a priority.
Not being able to queue up from anywhere shouldn’t be such a big thing. It’s a detail, yes. One they’ll perhaps consider.
This is a good point actually. I know it’s hard for me for mmo’s though because I will say I have been spoiled by WoW. Played since Vanilla and was introduced to end game raiding for the first time and just fell in love with it. So now I try my hardest to not compare it to WoW or expect it to be like it but all the other mmo’s I tried after WoW, except ToR, but I just lose interest fast.
But like with movies. I ignore reviews and not expect this huge blockbuster but just hoping for a movie I enjoy. And usually I will like it a lot better than I expect.
Not sure why that would be split when this is a pvp based game. Their pve is basically just leveling and a couple of dungeons. Until they add actual raids, not sure why they would do that.
People can say what “end game” means all they want. But people use end game to say raiding or pvp at max level. End game means it is the final stuff to date. So for example let’s say in WoW when MC was out and no BWL or AQ40 or Naxx40 out yet. MC and Ony was the highest raids available so that is end game. Once BWL comes out that is end game because it is the final raid to date until the next one is released and so on.
So to me that is end game because once you complete it all fully and no new raid has been out yet, you have reached the end of the game in a way. Yes you still farm it or can do other things like pvp, farm for mats, fish, cook, etc. and yes the game technically is never ending because you don’t follow a path and beat the last guy and then it says “Game Over” followed by credits.
It’s funny because when people say, “How’s the end game here?” we all know what they mean, yet in this post these same people try to make it a completely different definition.
@Clex
No the game isn’t dying and it’s unlikely to do so in the foreseeable future. Last night I was taking a stroll in the low level areas just to see how it was doing and there were dozens of players there completing events, renown hears and gathering materials.
The problem is that people usually group with other like minded people and if they don’t like something and stop playing they already assume everyone else think the same when they clearly don’t.
That is actually your opinion. I wouldn’t say the game is dying in the slightest but a lot of people have stopped playing. The hype is over and a Halloween event isn’t going to bring all these people back. I am on a heavily populated server by Anet’s standards I guess in the lvl 25-30 type zone and saw 1 person.
If you compare the how many people log on now compared to launch, you will see the line go down consistently. I predict this game will carry the same path and fate as GW1 did. Had a hyped launch then fizzled semi-quickly but kept a steady fan base. Not a huge one in the hundreds of thousands but 100k-200k. But from hearing from a lot of GW1 players, it sounds like they feel GW1 is way better than GW2. I never played it so I don’t know but just seeing how it is now on my server versus launch, it has been decreasing in population.
LOL you are naming expansions already? The game just friggin came out. I never understood why so many people talk about expansions before release and right after.
I just use the upgrades that drop. Just like all other mmo’s there is no reason to ever purchase any gear/weapons while leveling because it is very easy and just using the upgrade drops will be more than enough.
I have an overclocked gtx 480. Run everything on Max and have had no issues with fps or anything.
If you are looking to try and compare it to other games who use a sub based then total sales of the game won’t be help at all. Reading through this people have said 2 mil sold. I will bet money not even close to 2 mil still play the game. Started a new character the other day and the starter zone was bare. ToR has tons of people in all zones still. Rift has people. Heck, even LotR has people.
The only way to see an accurate assessment I guess is see how many people logged on prime time (let’s say 5pm-10pm) when the game came out and compare it to now. Or show all times and how many people on each time.
@Apathy
“Waahhh, my blues aren’t super cool looking. There’s plenty of fancy looking armors in the game."
And this is a prime example of why this community is so horrible. OP has a legit complaint and the fanboi posts that. Simply amazing. “Oh noes a negative comment about my game I love. I better flame him.”
The armor is horrible looking and so plain. The look of armor is actually really important in a game and important to a lot of people. People want to look kitten for the effort in getting higher items. Not saying all items should rock, but the higher level and better gear you get should start to look better.
Might I add, even more so in a Barbie MMO such as GW2? Where the “end game”, or at least the biggest part of it, is how one looks?
You must be new too MMO’s. Welcome! But actually in every mmo I have played (which is a lot) a lot of people care who gear looks and want at least decent looking gear and scale it to look better as you get higher up and the level of the item. Just so you know in these mmo’s anyways, SWG, EQ2, WoW, AoC, Warhammer, Aion, Rift, LotR, ToR, CoH, Tera, and yes even GW2, people actually would like to have good looking gear.
Is it going to make people not want to play? Of course not. But it is still a big thing. I know I like having gear that looks cool then 2 little maxipad looking things for shoulders.
@Apathy

@OP
You are definitely correct but it is how it is now. LotR, Rift, Tera, ToR, Warhammer, AoC, Aion, WoW expansions, and GW2 are all easily solo able to level to max. Some people blame a LFG system which ruins communities when in fact that 0 to do with it. It is the fact everything is solo able to hit max level. But that isn’t the full reason why communities are bad or you don’t have friends on your list.
Other reasons I feel are:
1) Lots of stand offish people
2) Fanbois who can’t take criticism on their game
3) People want to play solo and not here for the mmo purpose.
But just because you don’t make friends while leveling, the community in general should still feel like a good community which in GW2 it doesn’t. Tera’s is even worse. Games like SWG, LotR and even ToR had/have great communities. ToR since it is the newest, has really shown good communities can still exist. Sure there are those kids who still think it is barrens chat or are just a**es, but so many friendly people there. Every LFR in ToR i did has been in groups where everyone has been fun to play with and jokes around etc.
@OP
Like Equanim said, this forum is nothing. ToR has tons of people crying about stupid stuff too. They cried about no content, now they are getting flooded with it along with another patch coming soon with a heavily anticipated new pet to unlock and people complain about that lol. The community in game for ToR is awesome, but the forums are horrible. Most of those people are Tera or GW2 fanbois so they just try to trash the game in hopes people will listen.
The bugs and stuff people complain about there either are non-existent or so trivial and small they just need to complain to complain. At least they don’t have a huge bot problem.
Well, nothing is preventing you doing that already It’s all about your ability to RP
For those that aren’t able to RP very well without having the theme / setting and such available it could be a nice adition.
I like the ceremonies they implemented in Rift even though I don’t care for it myself I can see how it could make some players happy if they met eachother in game and aren’t dedicated RP’ers.
Currently I would consider it a waste of resources though if it would take away from the resources to develop other content like player/guild housing, new events, new spvp modes and I could go on for a few pages with features / content I consider more important or a more nice adition for a larger group of players than marriage.
^ Pretty much this. I already said how I felt about it but if people then expect all this stuff to be added along with it like bank sharing, etc. then no, sorry. Rather have real content and bug fixes then that. SWG had in-game marriages and it was just in their profile as saying “Married to…” along with you gave each other a ring if I remember correctly. Something like that is all that should be done. If you want more and having in-game marriage is so important then go play the Sims online.
I personally hope they don’t add it. I think in-game marriages are lame and should be stuck to RP servers. The worst is when they need to have a wedding too and act like it is real and take all these pictures and flood chat channels for invites and telling people to go etc.
Having said that though I think it would be good for the game. It doesn’t hurt me or effect my game play so why shouldn’t this be added? Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean I don’t see how some do and it wouldn’t bother me if they added it. I just think they are dumb.
If they do they should allow same sex marriages. It is a fantasy game. It won’t hurt anyone. If people don’t like it then that is just stupid. Just like in real life, does 2 same sex people getting married really effect you and your life in any way shape or form? No it doesn’t.
I bought the game because it was a hyped mmo and free monthly so if I got bored then it would be ok and I can play again whenever I wanted to. Got bored pretty quickly unfortunately though but like I said, if I get the urge to try it out again or once they add new things then I can always come back and play without re-activating an account and not have to pay.
Actually there shouldn’t be ‘waypoints’ in the sense of teleporting. If you are going to do something, then it should be a ‘fly/travel’ from point X to Y that you actually experience.
When you start doing these ‘teleports’ , it destroys the world and the community…just ask WoW and their flying mounts debacle and then the Dungeon Finder.
People in the world traveling is a GOOD thing. If it takes time, then it TAKES TIME.
I don’t agree. Huge waste of my time flying to places. Always hated that about World of Warcraft.
You quoted Mulch though who was talking about GW2. The OP said he played GW1. Mulch, whom you quoted, never said anything about GW1 and was talking strictly about GW2 ports. And so you tell him GW wouldn’t be for him like he cares being he is playing GW2.
But even so the OP said he came from GW1 so obviously why would GW1 not be for him if he has already been playing it?
Fewer, not less waypoints, by the way
I think if it’s gonna have a waypoint system, this set up is good. For the lowbie zones, waypoints are rarely contested, so you can get where you want. BUT before you can ever get to one, you have to walk there first.
Walk speed is slow, and particularly as you level up, the zone design has so many unclimbable hills and maze-like construction that it can take you a mile of running to travel to a point that’s 50 ft away as the crow flies. So we need waypoints, cuz no one should have to walk thru these gawd awful zones more than once.
The zones aren’t all that bad at all. I guess Guild Wars wouldn’t be your type of game then.
GW wouldn’t be their type of game because of what they said? WOW, fanboi much? I guess you must be new to mmo’s and this is your first. Welcome to the mmo community! Yeah an entire mmo game must not be their type of game because they didn’t like certain zones. Some people truly amaze me. I think they have very valid points.
@Terok
“Love it or hate it, GW2 has become the industry changer it wanted to be.”
LMAO oh wow that made me laugh. GW2 has not changed anything for the industry. Nothing is new and inventive one bit. The questing system is horrible. “Farm events”. Yeah do that now that the zones are all dead and you are the only one doing events. The PvP is horrid. WvW and GvG is a joke. The pve itself was nothing new or flash or inventive. In fact the pve is below Tera and Tera is horrible. So how exactly did this change anything for the industry?
If anything my money is that Titan will will change things. You can bank on that.
(edited by bojangles.6912)
SWTOR needed subscription, GW2 doesn’t.
That’s like saying Bethesda doesn’t do as much money even if they still sell Skyrim boxes because many people don’t play it anymore.
yeah, true that. that played against SWToR for sure
but I never said GW2 is tanking as hard and as fast as SWToR did
Im merely pointing that going by the sales alone may mean nothingsince this game doesnt have subs its hard to tell if its gaining players or losing them. we have to go by personal appreciation of server populations, which certainly is a flawed way to try to draw any meaningful data
Exactly. GW2 already hit its peak and the fanbois just hate to admit a lot of people already stopped playing. A lot went to try Pandas where it is actually not a bad expansion, and others went back to their other games. ToR did take a huge hit but they have been steady since and I would say the sub base is about 600k. I have seen gamer forums were people already stopped playing GW2. Yes I know that may only be in the couple of hundreds, but I am sure there are a lot more than that. Once ToR goes f2p, their numbers will go up A LOT. Oh and they have been releasing content again and already have the next patch on the test server.
The fanbois here are almost as blind as those of Tera online. But see the best part of GW2 is that it is free monthly. So once GW2 adds a lot more content, gets rid of the botting etc. adds more content, people will come back to try it. After all it is free so everyone will have access to the same stuff. Don’t get me wrong I think GW is decent, but for me right now it got boring fast, but the graphics and exploring are amazing. Just really hate the route they went with leveling. I prefer questing and more dungeons vs needing to do pvp, craft, or farm events which are all the same.
Well, as long as they don’t create a LFG tool like the one in that-other-mmo-we-don’t-talk-about because that killed the social part of grouping for dungeons.
People would just open LFG, wait a few minutes, run the dungeon as fast as possible and leave. That’s not how an MMO should be played.
Last sunday I was chatting with another player while we waited for other people to join our group and he/she invited me to join his/her guild which I accepted. This would never happen with a LFG tool.
Please don’t post things like they are fact when in reality it is only your opinion. LFG finders DO NOT KILL the social part. Not having a LFG tool forces people to sit in a major city and spam chat LFG. Not having it in Rift really ruined the level process for me because I love to switch it up and run dungeons but there was no LFG at the time so I only got to see 1 whole dungeon my time.
You say “you found a guild because 2 of you were talking while LFG”. Well guess what? You can do that too but just chilling in a major city. GASP What?? Nooo way? Yep.
The casual far outweigh the hard cores now. People want to level and be able to que for LFG so while they are questing they can level and see the dungeons. Oh and get this, you can still be social because you are meeting new people also once your que is up. Spamming “LFG” in chat channel isn’t very social to me.
So please know what you are talking about first before saying it killed the social part because in actual it didn’t. Also please don’t tell us how mmo’s need to be played. You aren’t the almighty. You aren’t paying for our subs. So please, don’t tell us how we need to play because your way shows how clueless you are.
“That’s not how an MMO should be played.” -Calvera
@Pants
I agree about WoW now, but I still have them as my 3rd because it is very active still and yeah there are a lot of those kids still who flood trade chat with lame stuff and people will mount up and sit on mail boxes, vendors, quest givers etc. but overall since there are still tons who play, people have still been a blast. I form a lot of old school raids and everyone who has joined has been fun. So for me anyways, for the most part, I still enjoy the WoW community overall and how active it is.
SWG pre-nge was a completely unique and different game. There was pretty much 0 content except for these “theme parks” you did where you ran quests like in Jabbas palace or the imp/reb bases etc. But you leveled by just killing things. Just grab a mission from the terminal and kill. 0 end game. No levels 1-80 etc. You needed people to train you for your next level in the profession/combat field you select which was pretty cool.
But that is why the community was amazing because it was up to the community to create the content and fun. So guilds would have cities and build walls with houses and the opposite faction would organize all out attacks to try and destroy the base. So you had to rely on your allies to help. The game was pretty much all pvp or socializing in the cantinas.
I wouldn’t say it is the friendliest community but it is average I would say. Haven’t really experienced anything that made me go, “Oooo this community rocks” nor have I have run into the opposite. For me I would rate this 4th best community I have seen for all the mmo’s I played.
1) SWG
2) ToR
3) WoW
4) GW2Worst Community for me
1) Tera Online
2) EQ2
3) Warhammer Online (felt nonexistent)
4) UOHave you ever played LotRO? From what I remember it was ranked #1 friendliest community a few times on some MMO website.
I actually did but I think I may have started to late because when I played the server seemed bare. I hardly saw anyone while questing and the main chat for that area had very few even talk. I downloaded it the f2p version a few months ago, haven’t played it much except for the first week after downloading it, but there were a couple people who were very friendly. Just not enough though to make me feel like the community rocked though.

“Going back to WoW shows the type of MMORPG players they are. There are some players that want carrot on the stick and they are other players that do not, like me. I played guild wars 1 first so i m used to not relying on the carrot on the stick to enjoy the game. WoW does not have more content, it just has more ways to get you to keep paying a sub fee for it. I mean, does it make sense to have a 1 week CD on an instance? To some people apparently it does, even though they are paying 15 bucks a month. A sane person will tell you there is no real reason to have 1 week long CD on any instance but what do I know.”
Actually you are incorrect. How does WoW not have more content then GW2? It actually does. Hate to burst your bubble but just the expansion alone has more content.
MoP:
Scenarios
End game Raid
6 New 5 man dungeons along with 2 old re-makes
New Farming system
Pet Battles
New World to discover
Tons of quests to where you can max level by doing about 1/2 the new area
New World Boss
New battleground
GW2:
Big area to explore
A couple of dungeons
PvP (sorry but to say g v g and w v w v w etc are all just bland pvp right now not content)
A medicore storyline
Sorry but MoP has a lot more content and lot more end game. The pvp for GW2 is what the game is focused on and that itself is mediocre to blah right now and this said by pvp’ers on these forums. The pve side of GW2 is horrible. Also MoP will be having their 2nd raid ready before GW2 even releases more content and it is has been out almost 2 months now.
@Ryth Oops you are correct. I misread your thread and thought you said the raid dungeons in there. But still Vanilla in Scholo, DM North, UBRS, LBRS, and some in Strat wasn’t all super easy mobs. Before the nerfs and even when UBRS and Scholo etc. were 10 and 15 man. There were quite a few challenging pulls. But yes now they are all cake and pointless.
People are just use to WoW…but it’s no different really. Besides bosses, all the mobs in WoW dungeons, even in Vanilla were just trash…and basically for zerging, spanking down.
The ‘trinity’ system didn’t even really exists till raiding in WoW. We basically DPS’d our way through all the 5 mans in WoW up till UBRS and even then didn’t have a dedicated tank or healers…just more off tank types and spot healing.
You must not have played Vanilla or BC WoW then because the mob’s were just not easy to spank down. First 2 pulls in MC had many guilds cry. And that is just 2 pulls of like 20 more to go before the first boss. Naxx40 guilds couldn’t even get to the bosses because of trash. BWL, AQ40, Kara, etc. The mobs had some challenge in them. And please don’t say for you guys it was cake because I seriously doubt you even finished Naxx 40 or AQ40.
Sunwells trash as well. So no you couldn’t just zerg it.
WoW always felt like I needed to progress to justify the $15 a month, if I wasn’t getting new gear or leveling fast I felt bad because it was like I was wasting time. Everything about WoW is a grind, even the crafting felt like it was just reading a guide and buying or farming massive amounts of mats to level. With this game I will level my character for a bit and after about 5-10 levels I’ll go to the crafting station and use all my mats to get the crafting up.
Then WoW simply isn’t for you just like GW2 isn’t for people. All the things you talk about a mostly pvp based. I think a lot of pve’ers were expecting more pve in GW2 because they kept talking about it and then found out the pve isn’t really all that. Which then this game isn’t really for them.
But also it is just your opinion there is all this stuff to do. There have been some hard core pvpers here on the forums who have said the same thing about nothing to do. But you get what you pay for. For just needing to pay for the box, I feel the game has been worth it for me because I can play anytime I want and not pay the monthly fee, but i lost interest after a month and got very bored of the game too.
Want another example, look at what is going on over in Blizz-land. A few months of pandas and they’ll be back.
I doubt that. People went back to WoW because they have actual content and things to do. GW2 is pvp based. The ones who left to go back to WoW likely are pve’ers. I went back to WoW and am loving the expansion and new things they have to offer. The new raid isn’t horrible either. Still not as good as any Vanilla or BC raid or even Ulduar, but better than Cata which is what I was looking for.
PvE’ers won’t be coming back to GW2 any time soon. They may play this still here and there like in time I likely will play a little again. As you put it, the beauty of it being a life time sub.
But the new farming/cooking system is pretty cool Blizz added along with pet battles. A lot of people left during Cata as I did also and will admit I was missing the game but Cata was just sooo bad. So this fresh expansion is bringing people back. Heck there is still a 30+ min que on my server and it is already 2 weeks old.
I assume you are talking about the kung fu panda expansion. For a game that had over 10 million active players about a year ago, 2.7 milllion isn’t perhaps what you would hope for.
GW2 is a game with a much more humble amount of followers from GW1, a new game in many senses. How many MMOs can sell over 2 million copies nowadays? SWTOR did but destroyed itself shortly after, sales stagnated very quickly and unfortunately it went downhill from there.
One could argue that GW2 is more fun as a game and without a sub has a much better chance. Time will tell but I think all in all GW2 has done well and I do hope it will grow from there.
I love when people call it kung fu panda yet the pandas in Warcraft 3 came out before the Kung Fu Panda movies. Yeah the pandas were in Warcraft 3 which people seem to now know.
Anyways 2.7 in one week > 2 mil copies over a month for GW2. The 2.7 isn’t even counting China. Of course there won’t be 10 mil sold, but for a game that is 7+ years old and still outselling hyped games like GW2 is amazing. And yes 2.7 in one week is amazing. I will bet the total hits a lot more. Servers still have 45+ min ques.
Ask that question 6 months from now. Polishing isn’t yet finished.
GW2 is not in beta right? its released, it should already be in a polished state. Arenanets thing was “we wont release it until its ready”. Well, its released, so either its ready… or they lied.
That being said, after 34 days (the omg gw2 is out rush) is already over, I don’t forsee the game taking off much more then it already has, from here its a decline. We will see in 6 months I guess.
Agree fully. GW2 already hit its peek. 6 months isn’t going to jump this game to 4 mil+ people. I will be more people have stopped playing then game sales a month after release. 6 months isn’t going to bring everyone back and then some. And no game should take 6 months to polish. That is a horrible excuse.
This game will end up like GW1. Tons of hype in the beginning and then drop. It won’t die but it will fade.
Anyone who thought it was going to kill WoW or come close was delusional.
Arenanet themselves said that they would not be happy with GW2 unless they were #1, meaning, dethroned WoW.
They clearly have come no where close to that, but they certainly did think it was going to happen, or at least hoped very strongly enough to make a public announcement about it.
They said that? I guess they aren’t happy then because there is/was no way they would even come close to it. No mmo ever will. Heck I don’t even think Titan will. GW2 will likely be in the top 4 and stay for a long time yes, but #1? They were very delusional. Either way though GW2 was successful with 2 mil copies sold.
The story is a nice feature but in all honesty for me it is boring. Seems like they were trying to be like ToR in having their own storyline but failed bad. It has been boring to where I skip a lot of the conversation now. That’s just me though but I appreciate the fact they took time to add one. It isn’t exactly horrible, but just meh.
