Funny you posted this. Last night I was doing AC p3. After we did the part where you destroy the burrows (the path with the resonance collectors) I waypointed to the middle area as if it was the path where you have to keep the guy alive. I felt SO dumb and I’m sure my party was judging me.

I think the time it takes is the whole point to the achiev. It’s one of the achievs that was brought over from GW1, and in GW1 (before they changed it to how it is in GW2) you had to actually sit there and click on about 5 drinks, wait about 10 min for them to wear off (There was a limit to how many you could do at once before the active ones wore off), then repeat. It took foooorever. However, I think it should come with a title in GW2 with this time investment. One tip: Buy stacks of the drinks then when you’re waiting in lfg use them. You can also bind your mouse wheel to click so scrolling your mouse wheel will open them.

You do not want to fight 2 bosses at once and you especially do not want to fight 3.

Any other suggestions for people?

You do want to fight litch and horror together. Litch will 1 shot horror, which saves a lot of time not having to kill horror on your own. Two bosses in the time it takes to kill one.

Guild Banners Disappearing

brently.7946

Ok, I don’t know if this is a bug or if this was intended. I also haven’t done this in a few months (until yesterday) so I don’t know when it was broken/changed.

I used to be able to drop a guild banner (like the gathering and swiftness banner) then alt hop to get the buff on all of my characters.

Now, since yesterday at least, when I do this (even when I get on the same IP) the banner is gone! I’m guessing they’re functioning like the spawnable npcs like black lion merchant and are destroyed when the character who placed it leaves the map.

Was this intended or is it a bug? Please say it’s a bug.

Gift of Battle Feedback [merged]

I don’t think they should add this back to a vendor, I think the reward track is fine. However, I do think the reward tracks in WvW need work, at least the one for the gift of battle shouldn’t require as much time in WvW.

However, I do think they need to add gift of battle back to a vendor for a temporary amount of time, like a week or two. It’s bs they came in and changed it without most of the community knowing they were going to change it. They should have sent players a mail announcing it was going to be changed a week or so before hand or added it to the loading screens like they add the PvP announcements. No, I’m not one of the players arguing this so I can buy a gift of battle with badges, I don’t have many badges right now nor do I need a gift of battle; but I do understand the complaint.

I think if they added in a build saver that made it easy to swap builds with a simple to use gear swapper system we would see more build diversity as there really are many viable builds out there. People just don’t want to change their builds if they don’t absolutely have to, especially if they’re on an alt or new to the game or a casual and don’t have their different build’s memorized.

If you “just want a consistent way you can show support except through sporadic purchases” couldn’t you just buy most of that stuff you listed once a month, just like you’re paying a monthly sub you’re asking for.

Player Housing? anytime soon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brently.7946

brently.7946

Why is a house in an MMO fun? Do you get XP from vacuuming? Find random coins under the couch cushions? Gain materials from doing yard work?

I honestly don’t see the attraction.

Not everyone wants to find exp and stuff every step in Tyria. There are players who enjoy building houses for creativity and roleplay. It’s a kind of “fun” too. Also, player housing is always OPTIONAL in MMOs. You are NOT forced to do it. Just like I don’t see the “attraction” of fractals, that doesn’t mean others can’t enjoy it.

Exactly this. Sometimes it’s nice and/or relaxing to do something in a game that doesn’t reward anything and doesn’t require skill. Some people like to sit in player housing decorating it for a long time, even if no one else will see it. Its one of those things you either get or you don’t get.

Too many rewards in game now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brently.7946

brently.7946

In the history of the game, we’ve seen both long-term goals inserted and reward increases depending on the mood of the community. In the last year, I’ve seen a lot more complaints about the game being unrewarding than I have about having nothing to pursue. Also, the complaints about nothing to do seem, at least iirc, centered more on the lack of new playable content during the 9 month wait for HOT and also this year, once the new XPac smell wore off. It’s not possible for ANet to appease players clamoring that the rewards they’re seeking require too much “grind” and players who want “grindy” goals at the same time. The pendulum has swung in the past, it probably will again.

I’m sure Anet is watching the economy. I’m sure they will make adjustments if/when they decide they’re needed. Unfortunately (for you, anyway), ANet seems more concerned right now about short-term retention. That suggests their metrics are telling them it’s a problem. It’s also possible they want to sell more HOT boxes, and are making rewards more appealing while removing some of the objections to HoT. If we start seeing a lot more complaints about nothing to pursue long-term, and the game is impacted as a result, I believe they’ll add a long-term, grindy goal or three.

For the record, the rest of Legendary Weapons 2.0 have been postponed, not cancelled. For some of the reasons you allude to, ANet realizes (or perhaps will realize) that Legendary Items are the biggest draw for the long-term goal crowd. They, along with Ascneded crafting, are the biggest drivers of the market.

For these reasons, I don’t believe what you’re perceiving as a problem (if it in fact is or becomes one) would be allowed to remain a problem long-term.

“Last year we talked about plans to gradually build out a second set of legendary weapons through live content updates. That’s a big responsibility. We have a team of six developers working on that, who could work on it for years to come.”
- It could take YEARS to complete the set of legendary weapons.

“So, after shipping Chuka and Champawat, I’ve asked that we indefinitely suspend work on new legendary weapons.”
- It’s being suspended.

Whether it is for good or not, there is no time frame given and already knowing it could take years (without this “suspension”) , it might as well be canceled for many many players that aren’t going to still be here years down the road; if the game even is.

So, while you’re technically correct, you’re not seeing the reality of this announcement.

Let's help Anet make a well-priced Xpack

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brently.7946

brently.7946

Opinions on how EVERYTHING from hot was totally botched aside; I would pay no more than $20 for the next expansion.

I -do not care- what they SAY will be released with it. I -do not care- what they SAY will be added later with it. They’ve proven both of those can easily be lies. However, I have played gw franchise games since Nightfall so I feel obligated to buy an expansion and give them another chance if it is no more than $20. Especially considering HoT and Core game will be released with it for free to new players (unless that was a lie too); They can afford to give their older players a price break to show us they didn’t just kitten up again.

Another reason is because I’ve played more hours in other games recently that cost $15 than I played in HoT.

While it isn’t required for me, I do think it would be nice to see two pvp maps instead of one. One new stronghold map and one new conquest map.

Edit: Another option if $20 simply would not cut it; Add a trial period (even for existing players). This trial should save the progress you make too so when/if you purchase the xpac you don’t have to do everything all over again. Let people play what’s there for a limited time and THEN decide if it’s worth it.

Launcher Auto Focus Password Field

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brently.7946

brently.7946

This might not be an issue for many people, so maybe it wont matter enough to change; but I thought I would just post it anyway and see.

When GW2 resets for a new build (or when you open it the first time to play) it automatically comes to the front and auto focuses the password field. If you’re using PTT (for VoIP) it will automatically start typing your PTT character into the password field.

I’m just suggesting that if the remember account name and remember password fields are selected the launcher does not auto focus either of their respective text fields.

Might even find one that wont require you to rep.(Make sure to offer a tip to the guild leads though because guild pvp arenas aren’t free. No thanks.

Infinite gathering tools were already undermined. Wintersday last year introduced the container that drops an ori grade gathering tool…. I literally still have stacks of those containers and I haven’t spent a copper on gathering tools since last wintersday. Oh and it has the bonus of gathering a snowflake which gem tools don’t. AND this works with alts, you don’t have to buy new gem tools for each toon.

It’s not necessarily about cost, it’s about how much inventory space it takes up. Inventory space is far more valuable of a resource than gold is.

Oh, sorry, thought it was obvious. The container only takes up 1 spot, just like stacking would.

Except when you run out of sickles, you have to open a load until you’re lucky enough to get a sickle. And you throw a bunch away/have to take time deleting the excess, too.

Which a) takes like 2 seconds and b) you just said the issue was inventory space.

Will we ever face any of the six gods?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brently.7946

brently.7946

I never said in my original post it was the six gods who abandoned the Guild Wars 2 world but that it was ‘us’ and/or the general Guild Wars 2 that abandoned the six gods, that which is quite possibly why they ‘went silent’.

Actually, it was the gods who abandoned the world, not the reverse. Even in Nightfall they told us that it was “your world now” and up to us to take care of Abaddon. We were begging for help and they told us that they were staying out of it. There is no way to color that as us abandoning them. The best light you can put on it is that they were like parents encouraging grown children to leave the nest and start taking on responsibility.

They may have had very good reason to withdraw anyway, knowing about the Elder Dragons. Can you imagine the power an ED might gain if it were able to defeat and consume the magic of one of the gods? Better that the gods stay where the ED can’t get at them! The gods surely knew that the ED were due to start awakening, and that may have been the real motive behind their withdrawal.

If you want to fight a god, perhaps one day Dhuum will break free again. Or perhaps we will finally get the chance to take on Balthazar’s half-brother Menzies, who surely has god-like powers. But no human would want to fight one of the Six, no matter how “cruel” they might seem. No norn, asura, or sylvari would have any reason to do so either. Only the charr might be enthused by the idea of testing themselves against the benefactors of their old foes.

I’d like to point out Balthazar claimed Tyria for humans and he is the one that waged war against the other races. I doubt any of the races would be glad to see him come back.

With concerns to challenging content: Challenging content and trinity are not related. GW just has to find the right spot where its challenging without it. For example: remove stack spots and the game becomes more challenging combat wise. Add in side objectives so its not all about killing. Split the party up so we aren’t all focused on the same objective / stacked.

Why wouldn’t you have exclusive rewards for specific content? Even Tequatl has exclusive rewards, and Fractals, and Dungeons, and Dry Top, and the Silverwastes… What would be the purpose of not having exclusive rewards?

Very correct, now all they have to do is implement legendary armour, skins, minis and titles for the top tier in pvp and wvw and the game will be able to offer something for everyone …

Legendary back for top tier pvp

Hardly competes with full set of legendary armour, minis, other skins, titles, guild decos if you’re a pve’er though… fair is fair, they need as much love as the raiders

And if you’re into WvW .. well … tough luck huh?

They used to have pvp only gear, like the tribal armor and another set or two. I luckily got tribal before they discontinued it. Have NO clue why they removed it from the game. At the same time when I get a whisper from someone jelly I just think … sorry I cared about pvp before it was an easy farm :P I’m thinking though, this might change when HoT drops. To my knowledge they haven’t discussed PvP rewards or GvG rewards yet. Ofc I could be completely wrong because I haven’t been following a lot of the news since a lot of it is just being repeated and that got really annoying really fast.

It is not true to life. Night time is kitten min long (there’s a timer). Day time does not have a timer but it seems about the same, maybe slightly longer.

+1 to the idea of less lighting and more danger outside of camps at night time. I always loved horror games and wished they would add more of a horror element into gw2. Obviously not extremely scary because they have to consider people that can’t handle that, but a little would be nice.

Beta weekend players, HoT worth it or not?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I vote purchase.

Pros:
Group events galore! Not only are there a lot of group events, but they are actually enjoyable. And knowing each one raises my masteries is really nice. I didn’t think I missed earning usable experience after 80, but now that I’m getting it again I realize I did.

The maps are really well done, meaning the scenery is really nice. Its also quite challenging to explore. Not everything is on the same plane and you have enemies EVERYWHERE which aren’t always easy to get past.

The day and night cycles are also interesting, although not as notable as other features. Especially since night time is boring. Which I find interesting because you would think that would be the time for an ambush.

Cons:
Elite specs are not worth it. Sure some of the skills are interesting but I’m only using two of the new skills on my thief. I’ve also played ele and necro. To me, if I was planning my purchase on new skills or new ways to play my same character, I wouldn’t bother.

Not going to be as enjoyable with solo players. Running around this map is tedious and I find it more fun with other players. I also haven’t seen many events that can be solod.

MMO Manifesto - Does anyone remember this?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brently.7946

brently.7946

I never tackled this topic so far, but i want to write this down, in bullets so you can easly understand:

  • manifesto = intents, and you can’t always deliver what you want;
  • things changed at release because they had to, not because they wanted to troll us saying A then doing B after a month for the sake of it
  • an example is ascended gear, implemented because people didn’t have a goal to GRIND, now they cry about the grind. LOL
  • i’m not whiteknighting anybody, but being a dev myself i know that sometimes you have to change what you dream to program, because kitten happends
  • they addressed the grind issue saying they do no want people to grind to enjoybevery aspect of the game, and THIS IS TRUE, and do not philophize about fractal 50 not available because of ascended because you’d look dumb. That’s progression, not gear check in a WoW sense. Because look, some dungeons or world bosses require coordination and knowledge to complete, are you saying is bad because you have to grind the “skill” to make them? LOL because to become skillful you have to repeat the content over and over to be good.
If everything is handed over and doesn’t require some sort of work/time spent, the game would cleared and dead in 1 month…no exceptions, because that’s how it works. Get over it.

Didn’t start like a ranted but i got carried. Sorry. Peace&loot.

So…

  • How about inform people at first sight of such changes?
  • Ascended – Weak example showing only that devs do not have imagination for more. Right? Or you find smth else to support this already lost affair?
  • Some? Yeah right: triple trouble and Tequatl and THAT’S IT! In dungeons there is a simple thing like stack or run and kite. TWO! Seems like ANet likes that number. =) And as for “skill” term there is no skill in GW2 in true sense of it (mayb in SPVP, but tanky mandatory builds come to mind). You can open any guide, look for some high regen build for ANY class and you are done. For everything PVE wise. And you can F*** up as much as you want. So since when does build and gear composition = skill? BTW repeating content does NOT make you skillful – it trains your memory – thats it. You remember just a simpleton pattern to follow. Nice! Skill at its finest! sarcasm

So no matter how much time and effort this product has gotten it still lacks. Goals, skill gradation, boring quest system, unimaginative world events that are shallow. Seems like the dev team can’t do better. Get over it and stop whiteknighting obvios things!

I got a letter saying I was one of the recipients of GWAMM unrightfully. Thing is… I NEVER had that unlocked in gw1 or gw2 so I dont even know why I would be getting this letter. Top it off, you decided to remove all of my achievements from HoM. What the actual kitten is anyone at anet ever doing. Does anyone EVER test kitten before releasing it? Or is your goal always to break kitten worse than it is?
