Gear wars 2 ,Farm wars 2 , Grindwars 2.All of those is what gw2 has become instead of actually having guild wars.A tittle that doesn’t even relate to their game in anyway….
I like Grind Wars 2 the best. Its most fitting
Even the grindosaurs are complaining about time gating and not about collection of the mats.
Make a new character and play from 1 to 80. Can you make ascended gear when you turn 80? No.
How far are you from full exotics? Not far.
How far are you from full ascended? Months. Not even counting the armors to come.
Now tell me this game isn’t about grinding for gear.

That’s a very fitting name, as long as you preface it with the words “there really isn’t any reason to…”
Stop this nonsense please. Would you do Liadri in all greens? Any time they release anything remotely challenging you’ll want the best gear available.

Except to fool you into thinking it would be the spiritual successor of GW1. Jokes on you (and me).
OP, please get some empathy, and think in their shoes for once. They’re people. They have to answer to a playerbase who wants everything. They have to answer to NCSoft who only want a bottom line. They also have their own goals they want to see, ideas they want to see come to fruition. It’s not a matter of “if”. It’s a matter of “when”.
While you have a point, it is no surprise some people are disgruntled.
The quality of the current content hardly makes me think the supposedly ‘real’ content will be any good.
Until then I won’t be playing much GW2, if at all, and I’m not holding my breath for the ‘real’ stuff.
I was farming Dunwell (RIP mate) when I thought, well, what am I going to do with all the gold? Errr…buy skins I guess.
Then what? Jump around in LA?
And I stopped playing.
Thief has spammable stealth, poison on an auto attack, autos can easily hit over 10k (how many classes can do that?), fastest attack rate on autos (daggers) in the game, S/D spam 2 all day. What else do you need?
Which auto hits for over 10k? I’m missing something.
*Let us “finish” our characters so we can enjoy the game and let the people who want to grind for gear either grind for Legendary weapons, Alts, or even a whole other game, then they can come back to GW when they want and enjoy the new content….Like how GW2 was exactly marketed!
That would be bad for business. They want money now.
It’s perfectly fine for me if they produce a quality expansion and cost another $60, I’ll definitely buy it. Guess they prefer a cash shop, hence this mess we get.
DEs can tell a story, a few of them do that.
I think ArenaNet gave up, though, after learning that most players are more interested in grinding than playing through a story. It’s not that DEs can’t be improved, rather that ArenaNet sees no point in doing so.
They ditched DE (along with most of the manifesto) at the first sign of trouble, and turned toward the grind/farm model that worked for e.g. WoW. Can’t blame them for taking the safer path, but they now have 0 respect from me.
I fail to see what is exciting about ascended weapons.
Just another step in the treadmill.
Those are two different playerbases. They know which is larger and their content choices are strong indicators of what they know.
To make money, you cater to your larger player base.
To make a great game, you stick to your vision and do your best to realize and improve it.
Neither is right or wrong. I just prefer a great game than a cash shop.
GW2 started with a vision. A vision of a wonderful game that renovates the MMO genre. Somewhere along the way they decided money was more important than the quality of the game, and here we are.
Maybe the initial estimated cost of maintaining multiple servers is too low, or they got greedy, or NCSoft pressed them. There’s no way to know, but what we know is that ANet is now focused on dishing out new contents to keep players attached, no matter the cost to the game itself, so the cash shop gets income. They don’t care if the content is buggy, or it’s inconsistent with the feel of the original game, or it has 0 story.
A good product takes time to develop, for example look at Dragon Age Origins and DA2. They are now on a biweekly schedule, and it’s simply impossible to come up with anything of quality in such a short time. They just serve you whatever they could come up in 2 weeks, to hell with the consequences. If it’s something new people will play.
Now it’s completely fine to have a cash shop when the focus of the game is on the game itself. It’s something else entirely when the purpose of the game is to make people stay and spend money. There is a fine line between the two, and they crossed it by a mile.
You can make a great game, and people will flock to it and sing its praise. Or you can make a barely disguised cash shop and keep people playing. It’s business and there’s no right or wrong.
What is lost is the respect for the company.
Didn’t know you can be serious and sarcastic at the same time.
I’m forced to agree with the OP, which makes me really sad.
Either way, the core gw2 product had the potential to be the greatest MMO ever made, but has become a sad joke. I feel no connection towards the NPCs, I do not care what Scarlet does to tyria, I dont even care if Scarlet lives or dies. With zhaitan, atleast i sensed the danger as i traveled further south… seeing the corruption of undeath growing more gruesome and appalling, until finally I hit Orr. With Scarlet, all i think is…. meh.
Get a better, more compelling narrative, with NPC’s that grip me…. and maybe ill be back for more than one day every two weeks. Until then, cya later.
Agreed 100%.
Personal stories were mediocre at best, but at least you could feel Zhaitan’s menace on Tyria. These Living ‘Stories’ (not sure they can even be called stories) are just downright bad.
Cya in 2 weeks. Oh wait won’t even bother.
When I play a game I’m looking for quality entertainment.
All these LS contents have replaced everything else with lust for more loots/gold. There is no ‘soul’ in the story, just some placeholder evil guy giving you an excuse to zerg some more.
A good story leaves you with satisfaction and praise for the game, though there be bugs and whatnot. A shallow story just leaves you empty.
GW2 started with an interesting story about the dragons and the races of Tyria. That quality story is shelved and we are handed these cheap stories for 12 year olds.
I guess it really comes down to whether you want to make a great game, or a game that makes money. Now it’s looking less and less like the former, can’t say about the later.
Can’t help but agree with this post.
LS stories and characters are shallow, new contents are plagued by bugs, as well as mind numbing and boring.
Sure there are occasional brilliant things but they are few and far in between. And the bug that you are sure to encounter in the next 5 mins smothers any appreciation for the designers.
ANet’s got this amazing art team that’s imo best in the industry. But everything else is second or even third rated. Shame.
deadeye drops charged lodestone & more gold, ragemaw drops charged core & less gold
keyword: shadow shot
turn off NPC voices in options, did this a long time ago when the announcer drove me crazy
It’s just not possible to have different classes with different skill sets to be completely balanced in all these PvE situations.
Back in GW1 every class has like 95% access to the skill pool of the game, and you get to pick your own 8 out of like 500 skills. Thus even though it’s not 100% balanced, it’s 95% balanced if you will.
In GW2 they decided they wanted to discard this marvelous system. And here we are, QQing about class balance like a bunch of WoW players.
Tried shortbow and pistols with Valkyrie gear, kited phase 2 Liadra till the floor drops in both cases. Best try got her to 10%. Changed gear to Carrion and got past no problem.
The question is, when you raise the boss health this high and some class can still burst her down, what’s the point of raising the boss health in the first place?
This design is just screwing whoever doesn’t have the right gear or isn’t a warrior. It’s not about skill anymore, which in my opinion is bad design.
If you change the phase 2 mechanic so that Liadra has to be hit say 30 times to be killed, each attack must be separated by say 3 seconds, then every class will be on a more even footing. The fight then focuses on the mechanics of the environment itself, instead of the class of the player.
same here, not sure if it’s intended or a bug
All these promised content sound great.
Except it will take a year to realize them all, 2 years to make all of them bug free.
Considering how a simple event like the Lost Shores can have so many bugs, I’m really not looking forward to anything mentioned in the article.
All that can be gained from this sketchy math is that there is a difference between ascended and exotic gear.
And they will be adding ascended gear to ALL slots.
And then it’ll be a hell of a difference.
Of course it doesn’t matter now, but in a few months it will.
Just did a level 2 pug, one guy was kicked out of dungeon after 3rd fractal but was still in group. After the 4 of us took Jade Maw to its last bit of health, it insta-killed all of us, skipping the downed part and jumped directly to the rally at checkpoint window. Tried twice, same results.
Was going to get my friends to come back and play. Not gonna bother now.
FotM – the only good thing of the patch
Ascended gear – A badly designed gear treadmill, nuf said
Karka events – Boring, no lore, not challenging but annoying
New map – Prettier than Orr, but that’s about it. No real content except JPs.
Overall a very poorly conducted patch. Will be moving on to other games.
There is basically 0% chance that ANet didn’t realize ascended gear is a gear treadmill.
There is also 0% chance ANet didn’t anticipate the outrage felt by the player base.
There must be some irresistible force behind this change, be it financial stress or pressure from NCSoft etc. We players can only:
1. Ask for a refund.
2. Stop using real money in the gem store.
3. Wait and see whether the game thrives or wanes.
It’s a sad thing watching a piece of art degrade into something mundane, but it’s ANet’s game after all, they are free to do whatever they please.
This Ascended/Infusion crap IS the gear treadmill, however much you pretend it isn’t.
I have no idea why you want to turn this game into WoW. I don’t really care, because I won’t be playing it.
GW2 Endgame guide :
1) Play another game.
Every good (or bad) thing has an end. WoW averted this fate by dangling new carrots in front of your nose every few months. IMO that’s letting the game play you instead of you playing the game. The pleasure of enjoying a video game is replaced with the lust for shiny purple gear, which inevitably leaves me feeling empty.
When you’ve done all you could or want in this game, it’s time to move on. No one’s preventing you from coming back when there’s something new.
Just my $0.02.
