We call the route from point A to point B “AB”
so you travel from point A to point B in 35 minutes.
Now you travel from point B back to point A with 30% increased speed.

Question: Will the time it takes you to travel back be reduced by 30%?
Question2: Will you get from point A to point B instant when you travel 100% faster?

No!

Speed when you travel from A to B = 35s/AB
Speed when you travel from B to A = 35s/AB /1.3 = 26.92s/AB
Speed when you travel 100% faster = 35s/AB / 2.0 = 17.5s/AB

Simple math… no magic involved

running my old 0/0/20/20/30 build

Changed 4 initiative on heal to daze on steal + cd reduction.
Shadow arts for condi removal
acrobatics for might on dodge + vigor on heal

caltrops > skale venom (3 sec in caltops is the same damage like hitting all 3 times with the venom and the target is moving)
stunbreaker: signet (30s cd + initiative regen)
Invis (for more condi removal. shadow refuge or blinding poweder)

Not many condition users go 30 in trickery, either. The more popular builds are a 0/0/30/20/20, or some variation.

I liked 30 in Trickery for the 4 initiative on heal with withdraw

But now we have 2 good Grand Master Traits we have to choose from.

  • ~7 sec cooldown reduction for steal + a daze that you can use to interrupt (better for PvP)
  • or 4 initiative on heal that you can use to do another Death Blossom every 15 seconds ( again PvP. No comments about players running condition builds in PvE)

Not 100% sure if guildwars2hub.com missed something.
But thats at least what was in the game for the preview.

they were able to get a preview. There are some videos about the new dungeon and other stuff as well.

Deadly Arts

  • Grandmaster Trait “Panic Strike” now has a 30 second cooldown.

Critical Strikes

  • Adept Trait “Furious Retaliation” has a reduced cooldown of 30 seconds.

Shadow Arts

  • Adept Minor Trait “Last Refuge” has a reduce cooldown of 60 seconds.

Acrobatics

  • Grandmaster Trait “Hard to Catch” has a reduced cooldown of 30 seconds.

Trickery

  • Adept Trait “Merciful Ambush” now reads: Stealth yourself and your target for 2 seconds when reviving an ally.
  • “Sleight of Hand” Grandmaster Trait now reads: Stealing also dazes your targer for 1 second. Reduces steal recharge by 20%.

For example; Steal on a base 35 second cooldown, with a possible 30% cooldown reduction from 30 points in Thievery means it’s down to 24.5 seconds already, with a added 20% off, means at the very least is just shy of 19/20 seconds per Steal.

You should know the basics before saying something.

30 Points in Thievery dont give you a 30% cooldown reduction. Its an increased recharge rate… resulting in
without GM trait: 35s / 1.3 = 26.9s
with GM trait: 35s / 1.3 * 0.8s = 21.5s

old value: 45 sec /1.3 = 34.6s

its not like youre leaving the tower, run to your spawn, wait 1 hour, get back to the tower and shadow return inside.

Its by far not as bad as the perma stealth thief trolling in a keep.

But a perma stealth thief can use it as well.
Almost get caught, use shadowstep without target ( shadow return on your spot)
Jump out, maybe have stealth on fall damage.
Stealth yourself with shadow refuge or w/e
Shadow return and continue stealthing.

so where is the big difference to staying inside the tower? it just extends the area the thief can use by ~1100 range arount the tower

just wanted to mention that some of the changes are either close or exactly the same as some suggestions i made in the past.

didn’t check all of them. but here are some wrote in the past regarding steal :

  • Reduce the cooldown from 45 to 35 seconds.
  • Long Reach – increase range
  • Sleight of Hand – 1s daze on steal Steal recharge 20% faster

At 1200 range its unreliable anyway because of the projectile speed.

900 range is a nerf… but it does not hit us that hard.

no, even with the range nerf on sb, its still way better then P/P

They rly should either change p/p more into condition damage or change pistol #1 into physical damage.

having the auto attack dealing condition damage while the “high damage” skill is physical damage is just stupid.

I am pretty sure they are real.
It’s not the first time that stuff like that leaked.

BUT the last time it only was some things they used from the leaked list with chenges.

So i think they’ll only apply like 50% of the buffs.

Like reducing the steal cd to 35s OR changing the GM trait to 20% cd reduction for steal

Youre math is so wrong ….

its 35s / 1.3 * 0,8 = 21,538461538461538461538461538462 seconds.

the trait line increases the recharge rate. So 100% faster recharge rate would result in a 50% reduction

A better condi removal would rly be great for the acrobatics trait line.
At the moment there only is pain response that activates automaticly when you are below 75% HP with an internal CD of kitten . And it activates even when you dont have conditions…
Idea:
The condi remove on dodge with internal CD sounds great.
Either make it a simple condi removal or something more interesting like a grandmaster trait that also includes one of the following effects for the dodge with 10s internal cooldown:

  • Gain 3 Initiative
  • Gain 5s Vigor
  • Gain 2s Stealth

And there are alot of other interesting changes we could think about.
Like making Fleet of Food increasing the dodge distance.

Have to agree that thief is strong underwater.
Wish the thief allways had those skills :P

And underwater skill 3 is strong as well.
Its a block that counters the attack and then deals rly great damage and needs less initiative.

Survivability - dodge/invis

Hi,

what do you think about the survivability of the thief?
In my opinion its bad compared to other classes.
I read alot of posts that said “its fine because thief can dodge better”.

I agree that you can get the trait that gives you back like 20 endurance for each dodge.
But other classes can easily get perma vigor thats even better.

To compensate it, we get a few skills that evade (for a very short time).
And you cant use to evade something you want to since they are delayed and do not cancel your current attack to evade when you activate it.

If you now take into account that most other classes get the protection boon, then the thief seems to be the most squichy class.

And invis in PvE is like a block from other classes.
You dont get damage but you wont deal damage yourself.
It might be even worse then block since you still get hit by the large AOEs.

Hi,

We just did the Shadow Behemoth on our server and in the event list it still says “warmup”. Waited for 10 Minutes but it still says “warmup” and never changed to active.

And thats not the only event thats not shown correctly.

I just don't get it.

in the meta the thief is the best glas canon killer!!!

To bad 99% of the meta builds are bunkers / balanced builds…. but no more glass canons.

Sure the Larcenous Strike now helps to deal with bunkers… but even without all the buffs most bunkers can win easy against thief.

Really like some of the idea’s here keep posting to bring this subject some attention.
How about something like this:

F1 Steal ( Same as now?, maybe only give you a offensive bundle for balance it out? )

F2 Cloak – Vanishing in stealth for 3s while gaining initiative.

F3 Retreat – Roll backwards and gain Protection 5s.

I rly like the idea

I rly like it. But 14s cooldown would be to strong.

Anyway the change from 1% to 2% recharge rate for each traitpoint would result in a 21s cooldown (35 / 1.6 = 21)

I would change the base cooldown to 30s and change
“increase recharge rate by 1% for each traitpoint”: 30s / (1 + [traitpoints / 100])
to
“reduce the cooldown of steal by 1% for each traitpoint”: 30s * ( 1 – [taitpoints / 100])

With the 30s base cd you could get it down to 21s.

And change the 1/2s daze of Sleight of Hand to 1/4s daze or 1s immobilize for better balance.
I’d prefer the 1/4s daze over the 1s immobilize.

1/4s daze every 21 seconds is still strong.

Everything else should be minor number tweaks

Feeling weak in PvE

Main problem is that traiting into defense will lower the damage significantly.
(thieves have to rely alot on their traits to deal good damage)

They allready talked about it in the last “state of the game” and they said that they might increase the base damage of some weapon skill.

But if you go defensive you will have no problems in PvE.

You will only need more time to kill something

As for the cooldown, 30 Trickery would give a 60% reduction in cooldown. 40% of 45 is 18. Unless I’ve done something embarrassing with basic math, that seems right to me :p

Yes, you did something wrong but its not as embarrassing.

Its not a “cooldown reduction” but an “increased recharge rate”.

So for 60% you would have to calculate it this way:
45s / 1.6 = 28.125s

For 30% it would be:
45s / 1.3 =34.62s

And 100% faster would mean you can use it 100% more often
(2 times in 45s instead of once every 45s):
45s / 2 = 22.5s

It would take an 150% increased recharge rate (5% for each traitpoint) to get a 18s cooldown

It would be nice if you actually took in to context the entirety of my posts. Under my proposal, it would be possible to have Steal on an 18 second cooldown. And again, you ignore that I also thought about just slapping an internal cooldown between pocket uses (which could be affected by a reduction from Trickery traits etc.) instead of rebalancing the skills themselves. Steal usage would potentially become cyclic and not bursty.

I wanted to keep it short. but if you insist, i will expand your point in the list to reflect your whole concept. Just give me some time

Possible changes to the Thieves F mechanics:

1) Put venoms on the F bar (F2-4). Your choice which venoms. Number of venoms on the F bar debatable. Could just be 1 on F2. Leave venoms as utility skills as well. Venomshare only works on utility venom, not F venom.
2) Steal breaks stuns
3) Gain 5 seconds of protection on steal
4) Stealing grants 10 seconds swiftness (seriously, we need more swiftness access)

Not all at once of course, each are separate. Swiftness is a big deal though, 10s on steal if traited, or a couple of seconds on evade don’t really cut it for the supposed most mobile class in the game. SoS isn’t even the best speed signet anymore, and is often a waste on the utility bar anyway.

The protection would be nice since the thief is squishy. But i dont think that it would fit the steal. protection would be better on stealth^^

I like steal as it works now. The only thing I would like to see, is a better indication of what your stolen skill does. More clearly readable steal skill icons (using distinctive colors and shapes), and possibly a kind of popup message, with one to three words, that describes the usage of the stolen skill.

I think its allready pretty good. But maybe increase the size of the icon.

But currently I read the OP and the suggestions make me believe some of you guys want F1 to become like the ‘Hand of God’. I mean cd reduction? base range of 1200 (so traited to 1500 I assume)? Shadowstep/return? Area steal? To me this thread feels less about the concept of ‘stealing’ and more about what it would be like to become a god simply by pressing F1.

As i said at the beginning: look at them individually.

Dont think that these ideas should be all implemented together. lol

Its more like “only one” and we are good. Maybe implement 2 of them… but i totally agree that it would be way to overpowered if the whole list would be implemented in the game ^^

I’d like steal to be an ground target aoe where you steal from anything in the area (max target cap of 3) and trait effects effect all hit. This would go well with the new mug so you could do a nice small aoe burst (similar to a cluster bomb) with a quick 6k heal. I mostly got the idea from bountiful theft though. Striping 2 boons from 3 targets would help a LOT in things like tpvp where EVERYONE is boon heavy bunkers. It would also give more mobility to the thief as it’s a ground targeted shadowstep. Don’t know how this would affect the stolen skills but I’m sure something could be thought up.

I think that would need a major nerf for most stealing traits and would make the thief less efficient in 1v1 situations.

Ground targeted would make it harder to use as a gap closer but the idea is not bad.

Remove Steal. I just want Shadowstep and Shadow Refuge as baseline skills, now i can actually play a venom build without losing tons of mobility.

No steal for a thief? that would be like a mesmer without illusions or a elementalist without attunements… would be just wrong in my oppinion.

Hi,

I thought about creating a list of possible changes to improve the steal mechanic of the thief and hope you will add your ideas to the list.

Please be aware that the ideas in the list wont take account the changes of each other and each idea has to be looked at individualy. Only 1 or 2 of the ideas should be implemented. Otherwise stealing would become way to overpowered

I will start with some ideas and hope that you will add alot of other ideas to it

Basic:

  • Reduce the cooldown from 45 to 35 seconds. (Class mechanic of thief has such a high cd compared to other classes)
  • Make it possible to have more then one stolen skill (F2 to F4) and add a steal mechanic to 1 or 2 skills. The skills with steal mechanic shouldnt trigger “on steal” traits.
  • Increase the base range of stealing to 1200. change the trait that does it to something else (Issues.5789)
  • Put the stolen skills on F2 and change the F1 to a shadow return after stealing. (Folk.2093)
  • Increase number of stolen skills you can have at the same time (F2 – F3) and maybe add cooldowns between the use of each stored skill,
    tone down the skills for balance,
    2% faster steal recharge per trait point (instead of 1%)
    and more: please read full post for more info: long post by Auesis.7301 (3 posts long)

Traits:

  • Combine some of the traits (not all that will be listed). Some give only a minor bonus.
    Long Reach – increase range,
    Serpent’s Touch – 10s poison on steal
    Sleight of Hand – 1s daze on steal (grandmaster trait. rly? thief has at least two other ways to apply daze more efficient)
  • Sleight of Hand1s daze on steal Steal recharge 20% faster (grandmaster trait)
  • Improvisation: Stealing recharges all skills of one type two types. (With only one type you’d need to have 5 skill types equipped to get a granted recharge. To get 5 types, you’d have to equip the healing signet AND the elite venom. Changing the skill to work for two types will make it viable for more builds)
    (inspired by Travlane.5948 . His idea was to only recharge skills types you have equipped. But that would be to strong because you could pick up to 4 skills with the same type.)

Recharging all skills of a type that you have equiped would be to strong.
Everyone would one around with only 1 skill type and get 3 to 4 skills recharged with steal.

But it would help to increase the number of skilltypes that will recharge.

There are 5 skill types for thieves.

you can equip:

heal – signet
utility 1 – deception
utility 2 – trap
utility 3 – trick
elite – venom

with this setup you would get 1 skill recharged.

My idea would be to increase the number of types that recharge to 2.

This way, the trait would be viable for more builds since you only need 4 different skilltypes equipped to get a granted bonus instead of 5.

I think the event has to fit the style of the item.

Wisteria i.e. is looted from the giant jungle worm meta event.

Guesses from Nurse:

  • Taidha Covington -> dont know it but looks like pirates?
  • Fire Elemental -> very abstract but you could argue to give the C.L.E.A.N. Golem the final rest by defeating the fire elemental. but i dont think thats it
  • Megadestroyer -> destroyer inside a vulcano
  • Zho’qafa Catacombs -> Eyes of Zhaitan are the Old Kings and Queens of Orr, and have been imprisoned by Zhaitan. Killing the Eye in this Meta Event would give the final rest for the King / Queen.
    Shadow Behemoth -> Portals to the underworld. Dhuum once ruled over the underworld and uses an scythe.

One i would add:

  • Cathedral of Eternal Radiance -> Dont remember the story to well, but i think it was something about relatives of deceased did some rituals so the dead will find their final rest. Other then that you kill the Corrupted High Priestess in the meta event = final rest for her.

you could try to ask in guild or friends what you have to do for daily.

Dont know if it would work but it may work.

would just be a work around until its fixed.

Other then that you could ask what the dailys are and change your system date and check if it shows the correct achievements. It looks like youre dailys are off only 1 or 2 days.

This would show you the wrong date on your computer but then you could do the achievements :P

depends on the skill that causes the bleed.

If your skill inflicts 1 sec bleeding and you increase it by 99% you get a 1.99 sec bleeding.
It will tick for damage only once. If you increase it by 100% you get a 2 sec bleeding and it ticks twice.

So you want to get a whole number.

You can calculate how much bleeding duration is good without wasting points into it by dividing 100 by the bleeding duration of the skill and multiply it by the seconds you want to increase it.

Example:
Bleeding duration of skill: 6 seconds
100/6 = 16.666666666

So the optimal bleeding duration would be a multiple of 16.66

If you want to increase the bleeding by 3 seconds (50%) you calculate:
3 * 16.66% = 49.98 → round up to 50%

Example 2:
same skill but increasing the duration by 4:
4 * 16,66% = 66.64% → round up to 67%

As you can see 10%, 50% or 100% dont have to be the best.

Onlything good about the 100% is that it is a optimum independent by the bleed duration of the skill ( same for any multiple of 100%… but you wont get 200% or 300%)

Know that you allways get slowed in combat?

And Hidden killer bugged? i allways crit when in stealth… so whats wrong with the skill?

What i can confirm is the 50% movement speed seems to be the same as 33% from swiftness.

And your “please anet a response would be nice” is against the rules of the forum
