Mesmers — no way. Temporal curtain is their only swiftness ability

… and chaos storm. But of course also doesn’t stack because ground AoE swiftness never stacks.

If you lose to my Guardian 1v1 and you fought well, I will /bow. I didn’t realize they could even see emotes, until I had a warrior from Fergason’s Crossing do it to me, upon a rather close fight. It’s a good gesture and one I’m happy to do for players who fought well.

The basic emotes work, just custom ones will show up as “Xyz gestures”.

Another one a lot of people seem to use is /no in WvW jumping puzzles if they don’t want to fight, at least on my server.

This entire zone is pointless anyway. It’s sad, the game could really do with some high level zones that actually look nice and aren’t full of undead. But there’s almost nothing to do there.

Forcing players to complete dungeons = bad I think

I really have to ask though….at level 80, what exactly do you do if not for running some sort of dungeons?

I do WvW or I play world completion, I only have it at 100% on one of my characters after all but I have nine slots so far.

I’m not going to complain about dungeons in monthlies, but as someone who absolutely hates dungeon grinding at max level I can understand the sentiment. That I don’t have to do this in GW2 is one of the main reasons I play it. But now they started introducing this gear creep with ascended items that were originally only available from dungeons (well, fractals) and are now still much easier to obtain if you do play dungeons. Naturally some people are going to complain, I don’t get why people are so surprised by this. This always happens when the target audience of a product changes.

This isn’t even the first monthly that requires dungeons. We’ve had enough time to try and see if they aren’t so bad after all, since they were in the previous monthlies too. I don’t buy the argument that these achievements are supposed to get us out of our comfort zone. If I can’t be in my comfort zone in a game why would I play it?

Are you sure you have 100%? The game displays 100 a little early and on top of that, the two places on the character select screen can show different numbers. Verify by looking at the breakdown in the top left corner of the world map.

There’s also possibility that it count only for even dungeons and you have to kill Maw to get achievment.

This would kind of make sense, maybe it’s implemented as “kill dungeon bosses” and Maw is considered one. Anyone have more insight?

This achievement has been notoriously bugged. I stopped paying attention to it ages ago.

Same experience here. However I ended up getting it anyway on one of those wvw karma trains, catch events but avoid death, no map changes etc.

Classes without a lot of ground-targeted AoE?

damny.9342

Have you tried enabling fast cast ground targetting?

I’d imagine this doesn’t help much with a controller as you still need to target the skill with your pointer.

If there were a fast cast on target setting, that’d be useful. But the existing one just casts where your mouse pointer is, exactly like double tapping the skill does when the setting is turned off.

Focus also has a ground aoe.
And for utility there’s nullfield, blink and timewarp.

Yeah. Don’t play a Mesmer without ground targetting. You can do damage, but all your mobility is GT, some of the most important utility is GT, even one of your stealth skills is GT…

Adding a vote for power/well necro though. Especially if you don’t have one yet. If you keep your gear in shape then dagger #1 can almost carry you through everything open world pve can throw at you, wells are player centered unless you get a trait, and while there’s a useful GT skill for necros that use vulnerability, you can do just fine without it. As a bonus, underwater combat with spear should also work great with a controller, and the class allows for great survivability.

u enjoy being a low level more than max?

I enjoy the lower level content more. I.e. I prefer completing zones to farming dungeons or fractals. I also like Orr less than the other maps (no hearts, annoying mobs if you just want to get from A to B… although that has been toned down now). But since lower level zones are still open to me at 80 I don’t like being 80 less than being low level myself. I like reaching 80, too, and starting work on exotics instead of buying cheap greens every few levels.

I have 100% world completion on one character and I’m still working toward it on my others because it’s still fun. It helps that I play a lot with my wife since she picked up GW2 in November, but I generally like open world gameplay and GW2 is no exception.

In WvW, I feel more comfortable with my level 80 characters. But I couldn’t play it exclusively.

Not a fan of mandatory changes.
It’s the lazy way of administration.

Mandatory changes every few weeks/months = lazy/bad idea anyway.

Mandatory changes when they have a list of weak passwords plus a list of accounts that weren’t protected by a security feature introduced after the game launched, as in this case = good idea.

Suicide jumps for res daily

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

damny.9342

A player’s lack of creativity is pretty astounding. I’m terrible at remembering things and I don’t have to work very hard to think of events that leave more than 10 dead NPCs. Good for them (until they start complaining that it’s the only way to complete the daily…which is all but inevitable some will).

I think organizing suicide jumps is very creative

But it’s kind of silly with the amount of dead NPCs you can find everywhere in the world. Every zone has some hearts or events with dead NPCs you can resurrect.

Personally, I can’t stand dungeons or fractals, or instanced content of any kind, but I’m not going to complain about having to do it for my monthly. If I want the laurels, I have to do the content.

Same. But OP’s point is that the last several monthlies all included dungeons or fractals.

Game files/Caladbolg code pretty clearly states he is a Guardian, Mesmer, Warrior, Elementalist upon picking it up, since it are the requirements for it.

No. Any class can use Caladbolg, as seen when players get to use it during the Sylvari story. Just like any class can use an elementalist’s Fiery Greatsword etc.

Can't get 100% map completion

in WvW

Posted by: damny.9342

damny.9342

My personal view is, with the addition of paid server transfers, and due to the modified glicko rating system they use, Anet needs to strongly consider removing the WvW points from the map completion requirement.

I agree with this. I have my world completion done, I didn’t even have to switch servers, but even if you’re not going for a legendary, world completion is such an obvious goal for more casual players. Except it can take a lot more effort than completing everything else. In some tiers you’re out of luck if you just wait until your server rotates through all the colors, and if the rating system actually works then you’d by definition not be able to rely on rolling other servers so completely that you can get all the points in their keeps.

WvW maps should just be removed from world completion. Legendaries are already hard enough to get and you still need to get the badges anyway.

All my friends are casual-ish players and it sucks that one of the things they enjoy doing the most (completing the map) has this annoying hurdle at the end.

Incoming AoE nerf and rezzing in WvW

In another mmo that failed on many parts, still they had a nice implementation of aoe’s. The more targets you hit, the fewer damage. And it scaled pretty well. Above 3 targets, damage went down significant. Above 5 though it was to hard (10k damage becomes 100 damage). If little more progressively, and you might have the perfect system (if they remove the 5 cap).

Actually, with the 5 target cap it kind of works like that except the damage numbers don’t go down. But you can effectively mitigate player AoE skills by running into them with a large group because damage from multiple AoE ticks/skill uses will be spread out. Especially if your group moves through a ground targeted AoE, because they hit the targets closest to the center.

5 people run into AoE = all will be hit for full damage while they’re in the AoE field.

20 people run through Aoe = on average each player will be hit for 25% damage.

20 people with pets and clones etc. … you get the idea.

When do Mesmers become fun to level?

in Mesmer

Posted by: damny.9342

damny.9342

I had fun almost all the time. I didn’t even think the first 20 levels were slow or anything, but that kind of depends on how you level early on, I went for map completion (my Mesmer is my only 100% world completion character now) and that doesn’t require a whole lot of power in the early levels.

If you keep your gear upgraded then the first 20 levels are a breeze with any class, and at that point, traits have started kicking in. Buy “mighty” gear, then “strong” when it becomes available, green if possible, but yellow isn’t really worth it.

Underwater Skills Cool-Downs

Minion necros suffer less from pathing issues than on land.

Condition necros work just as well as they do on land.

Power necros (including those that use wells) do exceptionally well compared to many other classes just using their weapon abilities.

I don’t really see how you could not be strong underwater as a necro if your build works on land.

The Mesmer: A Bad Proffession? Or just played by bad people?

in Mesmer

Posted by: damny.9342

damny.9342

I don’t have any issues with soloing as a Mesmer. It’s a great mix of damage, utility, and survivability.

Someone mentioned the bouncy staff #1 attack. I think that’s actually an interesting case. Once you hit 40 you can put 20 points into illusion and get an extra bounce out of it. This effectively doubles the damage output of that attack. But you have to level 40 and you have to realize this. So this is not an early bloomer and many of these things aren’t immediately obvious either.

Someone else mentioned Mirror Images for bursting and then someone said it’s a 40s cooldown. It’s 45s, but you can trait it down to 36s. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s burst, of course it has a long cooldown. Staff #2 plus Mirror Images lets me start a fight with three clones running to my target to explode there. I can do that every 36 seconds with Mirror Images, but of course I can do it more often if I use my other clones or my phantasms.
