I play D/D ele, also played EQ. And I’ve been through a billion of patches. And all I can remember is patch = nerf and everyone is always upset afterwards but me after being through a billion of them, I really dont have any feelings. I know the devs reviewed the pros and cons and made the best choice out of it all.
err no, this is the opposite. they didn’t nerf enough, or buff enough, this is basically a hotfix. its nothing. and this was suppose to be the ‘big pvp patch’

The funny thing is is that ANet’s “slow and steady” approach to balance is the exact opposite of what they need right now. Slow and steady balancing works for mature games with healthy populations. Games where there are ongoing tournaments and whatnot where drastically changing the metagame would have significant ramifications.
What ANet needs to do is actually focus on significantly buffing underpowered weapons/skills/traits. In fact, many balance teams overbuff underpowered aspects of their game to draw interest in them so people use and test them out so they can get a large set of data to then gauge if a following nerf is necessary.
The PvP balance in this game is in its infant stages, and wild swings of the metagame should not only be expected, it should be welcomed. At the end of the day, the teams playing 12hrs a day are the minority, and balance at the top should be of very little concern. ANet should be focused on the casual playerbase and making the core game fun, and that is done by having multiple effective builds and roles for each class.

even the mature MMOs patches blow this out of the water, just look up WoWs patch 5.2 upcoming changes, classes are getting new spells, whole classes are getting overhauled, and dozens of specs are getting huge buffs.
they actually make me want to play the game when i havent in years.

Balance isn’t even the breaking point for sPvP. It’s the lack of systems. Always has been, always will be. Ladders, spectating, eliminating queues (and making solo queue separate from premades). The minor differences in balance (only seen by .001% of the tPvPers who care enough) is the least of your crybaby concerns.
well what about when they fail to release any pvp systems, can’t we expect them to atleast balance the game? is that too much to ask?

we were up 470-150 and we lost because our whole team got this bug.

I log on patch day expecting BIG changes, buffs that make new specs viable and nerfs to change up the meta and make things less stale.
This patch has given me 0 reason to download it and log on. im bored already from just reading the patch notes.

They need an open PTR like any other good mmo,
and they need to release upcoming balance changes so we can tell them how much the changes suck and will change nothing.

It was made so you can’t interact with portal if there is an obstruction between you and the portal you are interacting with! Everything else is still the same… It can be placed and you can move around wherever you want and you don’t need any LOS anymore.
how do u know? and even if so that means there are 0 changes to mesmers in sPVP this patch?
and they don’t understand why people quit this stale crap.
in other mmos they release big pvp balance changes that make players want to come back to the game and test new specs etc

It is constructive feedback, conquest just doesn’t work, and is the main reason why %90 of pvpers quit. players have been asking for deathmatch arena since beta.

OK, this isn’t hard. Before trying to reinvent the wheel we need to make sure we’re rolling first.
Remove hotjoins. Remove 3 round tournament.
add: unranked solo que(new hotjoin)/team que, ranked solo que/team que.
add: daily tournament with nice reward.
add dueling so new players can learn their class and other classes, test new builds, aswell as build a pvp community and help players find teammates (i found all my teammates in every mmo from dueling)
with the current playerbase aanet really needs to start working on a 2vs2 or 3vs3 arena, even with WoWs huge playerbase 5vs5 is dead because its too hard to find 4 other players of same schedule/skill/timezone/goals/attitude, and once rankings come in players will not play in pugs anymore because of fear of losing rating.
Also with 5vs5, as a player you feel like you have very little impact on the result of the game, it is more a zergmode about not making mistakes rather than winning with clutch plays. this turns viewers off aswell. (it works with mobas because of huge playerbase and each lane has there 1 vs 1’s)

defective how can u put guardians 4th on the list?
name ANY top team between release and now that hasn’t run a guardian?
infact people are complaining about double ele teams now when double guardian teams have been rampant since release (PZ comp) and even now there are many.
we just take guardians OPness for granted these days, DPS guardians are still 1 of if not the best dps classes, thankfully nearly all guardians run bunker since u cannot be a top team without a bunker guardian.
There have been MANY top teams in NA and EU that have run without a ranger,mesmer,necro,thief etc etc, but not a SINGLE team that hasn’t run without a guardian.

all my arena teams in wow were made by meeting good players through dueling.
and you need dueling to test new specs, learn other classes, practice timing and combos, build a pvp community…and its just fun.

This is a team game so a tier list should be based on which classes are most necessary to compete.
Any list without guardian in the top tier is just false, it seems people just take for granted how overpowered they are. There hasn’t been a single top team in NA or EU since release that runs without a guardian. They are %100 necessary to compete.

iMage sucks because illusions conditions are not affected by +condition duration traits or stats, so its confusion doesn’t benefit from the +%33 confusion duration trait or +cond duration stats.
illusions are affected by every other dps stat in the game (cond,power,presicion,crit dmg) so this is causing a huge balance issue as so much of our damage comes from illusions.
This is also one of the main reasons why condition mesmers are not viable in sPVP atm.

cast bars would increase the watchability of the game aswell as understanding of combat, and if they added focus targets/cast bars and gave us the ability to focus interupt and focus cc like in Wow it would increase the skill and complexity of combat tenfold.
The ability to keep track of 2 targets cast bars and control them both adds another whole dimension to pvp.

I will start playing again if a good rated solo que is implemented well, and so will some friends who quit aswell, but i can see aanets system being exploited if they dont listen to the players or release a open ptr so we can test problems..
What if it turns out that getting 2 players with very bad rating and queing as a 3man group is the most efficient way of gaining rating because you mostly face the high rated solo and duo quers without voip and then EVERYONE will abuse that and only que as 3/4 man groups with low rated players, and the solo and duo quers will be at a huge disadvantage and just stop queing solo because they don’t want to lose rating, so it will just snowball and end up like the current free tournaments where you are forced to que as a group or just get kitten on. Without a separate solo/duo que only rated bracket I can’t see how it will be balanced or fun.
This games competitive spvp needs to be less about social networking and more about individual skill based, theres no inbuilt way in the game prove your skill. Every game has systems to be competitive without needing 4 other players (with the same skill/schedule/timezone/goals/attitude) whether its dueling or rated solo que or 2vs2/3vs3 arenas. There are kittenloads of players that are teamless or have no time and cbf to network and create/join teams but want to be able to compete at a high level.
Remove hotjoints and have :
-Free solo/duo sPVP games that reward tickets per win
-Free premade 5vs5 sPVP games that reward ticket sper win
These will be the new hotjoin but players will actually learn conquest gamemode and stop zerging.
-Rated single game paid solo/duo que
-Rated single game paid premade 5vs5
-Twice a day Paid tournaments with big rewards.

weapon swap cd is there to make this game as simple as possible ..
unlike other mmos where u have a decision of over 20+ skills at any moment to use, in GW2 its a simple matter of using ur most important abitlities on ur specific weapon set and then swithcing weapons asap and rinse and repeating, theres no real decision making its too simple, and at any 1 time u only have the decision of 1 abitility out of 5-7 abitilitys instead of 1 out of 20+ in most other mmos.
this is why alot of the time u see a rank 1-5 player using the exact same rotation that a rank 50+ is using because the game has a ridiculously low skillcap due to the weapon swap setup.

I can name atleast 20 players that would re-install the game for this feature.

and you attacked me while i had a phantasm and a clone out. phantasm hit aswell as every shatter crit (%4 chance with %45crit)
you did the same amount of damage to me and you can do it consistently, steal and basilisk is same cd as mirror images.
if %4 didn’t happen that heartseeker would have killed me, thats 2 globals…

The main competitor is Wow, but Aanet has gone the route of trying to be as ‘different’ as possible from wow..
usually when 2 good games compete they take the successful things from each game to add to their own and that competition improves each game, but Aanet have not taken anything that made wow pvp successful/skillful.
No dueling, no arenas/deathmatch, no healers, no interupts, no cast bars, no focus targets/focus cast bars, going an untried tournament format instead of basic rated single games etc.
Wow is a crap game but it has a large player base so its good to gauge what players enjoy and what works.

this games combat is much better suited to small skirmishes, big fights just become an aoe zerg which is stupid. problem is you always get trolls who will join hotjoin midfight and randomly attack in the middle of a 3vs3 or duel so its hard to organise.

I understand both sides of the argument but the people joining the 3/10 or 4/10 servers, it should be pretty obvious they are dueling, and why would you join such a low pop server in the first place if you want to conquest? Also what is the fun of zerging and ruining the duel of 2 players which i see happen alot? wheres the fun in killing defenseless players and capping unguarded points..its just trolling.

Balancing is pretty important but I personally don’t know any ppl that have quit the game because of balancing issues. I do however know MANY ppl that have quit the game because they did not enjoy the aoe mid zerg of conquest gamemode and wanted to be able to play 3vs3 deathmatch or just wanted to be able to duel in the mists.

The duelers want to be able to duel in the mists so they don’t have to server hop and hope that the players who join the server are duelers aswell or nice enough to let them duel in peace.
The non duelers want to be able to join a 5vs5 hot join server and just play as the game was designed.
I think its pretty obvious what this game needs right now, spectator mode and all the jazz is just fluff that wont stop a dieing game die. Not being able to duel friends/teammates/rivals is actually gamebreaking tbh.

gotta stop comparing this game to LoL, they took a already proven really succesfull/popular game mode and worked with it, gw2 conquest has failed, i think 3vs3 deathmatch would be alot more fun/popular.
and bunkers will not be nearly as OP in a deathmatch setting as bunker+aoe is in a conquest/node capture setting.

Recently a dev said in a thread that spectator mode is a higher priority then a dueling system and arena/deathmatch. atm paid tournaments are dead except on weekends, whats the use of spectator mode if theres noone to watch?
i do not know a single mmo without a dueling system but if aanet wants less people to quit the game dueling and deathmatch/arenas should be a higher priority than spectator mode.
Aanet will probably spend a month on a fancy spectator client and by then it wont even be used because everyone will have quit the game/pvp.
