Perhaps elites would be less powerful if this were the case. That or there would be an effect that stops initiative regeneration. Something of the sort, and the Tricks trait line would increase Condition Damage and initiative regeneration. Who knows, might have something to look forward to.

Marching Orders

in Personal Story

Posted by: drake.2135

drake.2135

To refresh your memory, Marching Orders is the part of the storyline where you lead a group of Pact in stealth mode, or with guns blazing. They’re the ones that kill everything in five seconds.

Believe it or not, I believe that this story step happens to be the most fun of them all, since I literally could sit back and watch them own everything.

But if it’s one thing I was bothered about is this: why was I not given this really cool weapon of theirs so that I can have even more fun? It would have been a really nice touch!

Since I completed it, I can’t go back to redo it. Makes me really sad. It’s as much fun as wielding the Caladbolg (Trahearne’s weapon) in the Sylvari storyline. What I would give to do them over again

30- Deadly arts (Sundering Strikes, Dagger Draining, Combined Training)

I do not recommend you using Combined Training for that build, unless of course you deal majestic damage with Death Blossom. Try moving 5 points from Deadly Arts to Tricks. The extra three initiative seems better compared to 5% extra damage.

Things that could use a buff!

in Thief

Posted by: drake.2135

drake.2135

These are all excellent suggestions, but I believe if something needs a buff, it would definitely be the dual attacks.

More specifically would be the dual attacks that have no offhand. The problem, other than simply being underpowered, is that you sacrifice quite a lot for something that you can get WITH an offhand (and then some).

Let us take Twisting Fangs as an example. I did try it out last night, and it does work rather nicely, but it is just lacking pizazz. Since you cannot have an offhand to get this ability, you sacrifice your final two stills, and even some attack power and whatever stats would have been on your offhand. To make matters worse, if you want to use a non-two-handed weapon (i.e. anything that is not a short bow) in your secondary weapons, then it ALSO has to have no offhand. That’s a ridiculously huge tradeoff for something that really is not worth having in the first place. Granted, Twisting Fangs is kinda cool since it hits everyone around you twice and gives them 12 or so seconds of bleeding (twice), but if it were one or two more spins, then perhaps we can actually accept the tradeoff.

If that is a bit too positive, then let us talk about Stab, which is the Swords dual attack without an offhand. I also had the opportunity to try it out, and it is just abysmal. With damage weaker than the swords first auto attack skill along with the fact that it does absolutely nothing else could have it be considered the weakest skill in the game. It costs four initiative, and it is not all that fast even though it says 1/2 as its activation time. Perhaps you could use the trait that heals you when you use a skill that costs initiative, but seriously, you may as well use Unload for that. At least it has more use than Stab.

I liked a previous posters suggestion about how we should keep these offhand dual skills (buffing them too) as the normal third slot and just put the other dual skills as an F2 ability or something. It would definitely be a decent change to the thief’s mechanics to make it more fun to use without simply going all attack. I am sure someone will think of something.

Costume Brawl Feedback

in Halloween Event

Posted by: drake.2135

drake.2135

As far as I know, costume brawling is going to stay forever, but what I don’t know is if there are going to be more costumes (outside of holiday events…being a Santa will probably be fun…throw Christmas presents at people, damage them, then give them some chocolate ).

In my experience, costume brawls are ridiculously amazing. Sure some of the costumes are better, and do remember that the Halloween costumes will not be available once the event is over. Luckily you have the Witches cauldron so that someone who does not already have a costume can get in there. Even the banquet table can be fun in groups.

Now, I must discuss the witch and the Mad King costumes. There have been quite a bit of gossip on these two about balance, and of how you “pay to win.” These two are just completely not true. Like most costumes, they only have four skills excluding the “Time Out” skill.

The witch’s first skill releases bats in a sort of Point Blank Area of Effect, but it has a one second recharge. The second skill is the cauldron…okay. The third skill is the Wizard of Oz melting thing, which is cool and has a really nice range (1000 or so), but you are open to attack once the blocking ends, which is also where your damage ends. The fourth skill is the broomstick riding, which only gives you two minutes of blocking and you cannot do anything else except get off it (strangely, it says three seconds on the skill tip). As you can see, the witch is defense based, and really does not have that much when it comes to actual brawling.

The Mad King does however. For the first skill, you have a pumpkin…that can be fired behind you somehow, but whatever. That is cool and all, but it has a half second recharge. The second skill is the Moon that fears you and the third skill is the Area of Effect daze. Yes, they do seem a bit unfair, but you need to realize that they only have a range of 200 units, which is slightly smaller than melee range (around 350). The fourth skill is the banquet, the only source of blocking the Mad King costume has. Some have said that people put it in hard to reach places and just fear you off once you get too close. Well, stay out of range of the fear! The Mad King is powerful, I will admit, but realize that it is an up close and personal kind of costume. If you keep your distance (green skeleton), you will win every time.

That takes care of that, and as for the “pay to win”: I have both of them, I am dirt poor, and did not spend a cent of my real money, which I am also dirt poor at.

Now, do I think there should be more costumes, other than through holidays? Yes! Who would not want to be an Ascalonian ghost with those cool sounding effects? How about a dragon, smaller of course? What about the risen? I could just picture someone in a risen costume self-destructing. That would be hilarious. I would do anything to see that, and of course be an Ascalonian Mage. Those rock.

All in all, it is a fun gig, and I hope to see more added to make it even more fun (and hilarious). Personally, I just love launching effects. Makes me laugh every time, which is why I sometimes go to the labyrinth and purposefully fall off the edge (rarely, you do not teleport back and it kills you at the absolute bottom, which is also hilarious). Have fun making us have fun!

Reconnaissance Mistake -- Post-Halloween Update

in Personal Story

Posted by: drake.2135

drake.2135

After the Halloween update, I was doing some of the story line until I got to the Reconnaissance (lv51) part of the story. I decided to climb into the cauldron (Mystic Forge) to see what would happen, and became stuck with no way out.

Being a Mesmer. I decided to blink on the rim to see if I can get out, and I teleported into the fire underneath the cauldron, and am still stuck.

This really isn’t a bug to be honest, but rather an oversight. The blinking into the fire isn’t what I was trying to say:

When doing the Reconnaissance story tidbit during Halloween, don’t climb the cauldron!

Why would a chicken sticking its head in the ground give confusion?
1% is too unreliable, and not a clue why it would give invulnerability.
Immobile is logical, however.

According to myth, an ostrich would stick its head in the ground because it’s scared or is looking for water. A moa, closely resembling an ostrich, could have a skill to stick its head in the ground, but instead have it cause a water gush or give protection (as if it actually did something).

Of course, ostriches don’t actually do that, but it’s interesting if you think about it.

Don't you dare touch Backstab

in Thief

Posted by: drake.2135

drake.2135

Please keep the insults out of threads. It’s rude and inconsiderate.

The problem most people face with thieves is that they die quickly due to their high damage capability. That’s true, but all the time I’ve been playing sPvP, as quickly as I am to kill others as a thief, they can kill me just as quickly simply by kiting and keeping me from hitting my combos. Thieves are all about the combos, and when it’s messed up, and you’ve wasted initiative, then that’s where the thief will lose. Try blind, by the way.

A funny thing that I notice is that thieves were supposed to be built around the steal mechanic, hence the name. That’s fine for PvE, but thieves who rely on stealing is not a good PvP mechanic simply because of one flaw: what you specialize in one thing, it takes away from power, and once power is too low, you can’t kill anything before they kill you because they were smart and went full power. This logic applies to just about all classes, but it applies to thieves more than all because a thief without power is just one of those target dummies.

JQ vs HoD vs SBI thread/updates/screenshots

Unless HoD truly has been evacuated then they might drop but JQ is the new Hod so no difference I suppose. One server will always have too many people and the next 3 or 4 below them wont have enough.

Will congradulate SBI on an assured #2 this week.

Gratz!

HoD has been gutted of all dedicated WvWvWers. At this point, I think Kaineng could beat HoD easy.

To be honest, Kaineng could beat quite a lot of the lower worlds because they have become a bit more dedicated when they got more people in.

As for if they can beat Henge of Denravi? It’s rather doubtful; quite a bit of the Henge still has WvW players.

It just all depends on how many decide they want to play.

HoD vs JQ vs ET

in WvW

Posted by: drake.2135

drake.2135

There are some reports of a large guild on ET (ahem) breaking into an HoD keep, destroying all the siege, then standing in the tunnel and doing nothing while JQ later broke through another gate and took it. No attempt made on the inner gate. Now, there is no alliance necessary for that to occur. All it takes is one very large guild with the knowledge that it can not win a match and the desire to ensure another server loses it.

If you or others are going to make accusations like that you guys better state names and show some proof, plain and simple. I honestly dont spend as much time in the BL as I do EB so I cannot account for what goes on there, but for the sake of bringing stuff up like that then the persons making that claim need to show proof of it. Similar to the orb hacking thread(proof provided), if people see stuff going on and its wrong then they typically take proof(screen shot/fraps). I’d like to see something that backs up these claims.

I believe it’s just a rumor, and I’ve never heard of such rumors to be honest.

Staff not having “melee range” skills is not an issue as there is no minimum range on the skills, it’s a non-issue.

Going into a fight at melee range with a staff is idiotic. That’s why they want weapon swapping, so that they could stand a chance when at melee range.

Technically they could just carry Scepter/Dagger or Dagger/Dagger the whole time, but scepters lack anything that could help a team out, and running double daggers the entire time is also idiotic.

Unless you’re in sPvP, then everything but the staff is good.

CC is crowd control. It includes everything from immobilizes to slows and from stuns to knockdowns.

Some people don’t consider immobilize and slows to be CC as you keep control of your character to some extend, but they technically are by definition of the word. (And frankly if i mange to slow or snare a whole group of mobs/players in a big pile of AoE that counts as proper CC to me).

Oh, in that case yes, Elementalists cc is pretty bad lol (though I do like signet of earth, even if it’s only three seconds).

EB Battle Report: SBI v HoD v ET

in WvW

Posted by: drake.2135

See, the thing is we always knew HoD was the bigger threat, regardless of where their placement was over the weekend. We knew that once the week started and most of us on SBI are at work or whatever, that HoD would be able to gain points back quickly. That was why we were focusing so heavily on HoD. We knew that ET wasn’t really a threat at all. There was never an alliance between us. We just wanted to suppress as many HoD points as we could. I don’t understand why people think that this was unfair or bad tactics… So, we should actually just let HoD steamroll us to focus on ET?

If it’s anything that I’ve learned from playing any game where you have more than one opponent, is that it’s a horrible idea to focus on only one of them.

Sure Henge of Denravi is a pretty big threat, but if Eredon Terrace was really that non-threatening, then why didn’t you go to capture all of their areas, alongside Henge’s areas (if possible)? It might have been more beneficial that way.

Really? Focus is exactly what you do when facing more then one opponent. Once one is down and out, its now a 1v1, instead of a 2v1.

So, basically, WvW is all about disabling the toughest enemy through any means necessary, and then having a [fair] fight against the third?

As much as I want to believe that, there’s simply no way that WvW was designed for that kind of play-style, since even when you turn your attention to the third, the tougher enemy will just come right back almost immediately, straight for you (while, again, ignoring the third).

Actually, based on a developer blog post – WvW was specifically designed with three servers so that 2 could gang up on 1. SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THAT.

First off Sky, of the two posts that I made on this thread, I’ve not said anything about two worlds teaming up on the third, merely that one world tends to focus most, if not all, of their forces on one of the other worlds.

Secondly, I’d appreciate it if you linked that blog, as simply talking about it doesn’t mean that I’ve read it (or if I did, remember it).

I know I whipped out the CAPSLOCK BABY – OHHH YAAAA (sorry), but I really didn’t mean to be inflammatory.

Here is a clip from the blog, and the link:

“Including three forces in world vs. world acts as an excellent balancing factor, preventing one team from growing too powerful and ruining the competitive balance of the game. Two teams can gang up to counter a more dominant third team, a dynamic that simply isn’t possible with only two opposing factions.”

http://www.arena.net/blog/mike-ferguson-on-guild-wars-2-world-vs-world

SBI and ET both went into this match knowing that HoD was the 800 pound gorilla in the room. It appears that we both (SBI and ET) spent our weekend beating that gorilla and hoping he would be weak enough that he’d lose (or at least that we would win) over the course of the weekdays, when HoD is strongest.

Okay, thanks for correcting me. I suppose over a day or two of teaming up, as it were, to help sew the gap seems legitimate to me now. Though if Stormbluff Isle and Eredon Terrace were to do that the entire time, I guess that’s a different story. Sorry for causing a ruckus.

(Notice how I didn’t realize the tactics until now? )

I would agree to the idea, if it only wouldn’t lag like crazy for every large fight that all three worlds would inevitably flock to.

Though I do like the possible idea of an explorer mode of the regions, where you can explore every inch of the WvW zone without being stalked by people or have to worry about annoying queues.

As good as your idea in the short run is OP, it’s terrible in the long run as long as the state of lag continues like it does right now.

At Laughing Gull Island at the western pirate ship, while trying to do the group event, I used Heartseeker and somehow passed through a wall or through the ground, as shown in the photo. Nothing game breaking to be honest, except you get stuck there forever if you are in combat-mode. Just thought I’d through it out there.
