look math: u have 5 sec to kill mob. ur build phantasm hit 1 time 3k dmg. ur gs hit 3 time in 5 sec. around 1500 each hit (4.5k) again phantom 3k dmg
my build phantoms hit 3500. 3 gs hit 1166. again phantom 3.5k
both hit 10.5k in 5 sec. so i prefer use utility in my build. but sure ur build have place in gw, but not in fractals. sry

just a lil test inda mist without any utility couple min ago. this build not kill heavy golem faster than phantasm build 10/30/0/25/5 and 10/15/0/25/20 with same wep spec. so where the truth? better be mantra nuker without any usefull util or phantasm mesmer without uselles util? i repeat, golem die similar on second phantoms atack

with zerker hard land goond combo and it only 4 whirl. i warden 12. it just press 5. then press 4 on iwarden head. and u have amazing group cond removal

That is interesting, I did not know that! The focus skills seemed pretty self explanatory, so I never dug into it further on the wiki.

I keep deleting/remaking mesmer periodically, I get frustrated with the condition removal options while leveling (coming from a Necro…). Most of my mesmer time was spent in spvp. I plan to stick it out this time though. I’ll have to see how good that whirl combo is!

Staff phantasm does track a little bit, from what I’ve seen….it’s just that the orb it fires is slow(and obvious). So it is easy for the enemy to avoid if they get a wide angle on the phant. Timing a cripple/immob at the right time helps, it can hit like a truck when it does hit

Offhand sword phant is my favorite. (Diehard duelist spec)

traited focus very good against all rangers/engis/rifle warriors, and couple self combo is a bonus

its a stable DPS-Build and far away from bad, no matter what the ‘whole mesmer community’ brings for arguments. sure, there could be more utility…. but hey, its a DPS Spec. and it fits its role.

nemesis, u dont understan, phantasmal main traits tree is unique, because they can be changed in fractals in seconds for more glamour, more dps or healing. after 800 ur run u dont know witch mob next and witch strategy is better? like “oh now harpies, better i take sw/foc. oh now last boss. back to gs”. mb better u go another 800 runs and then try teach us about some 1button builds.
and good DPS build for u is ranger long bow 30/30/0/0/10. press #1 always fun ^^ and foe very far and teammates dont know what u do. btw about teammates, how they respond on ur “dont help team” build?

sylvari ofc. alot of asuras play mesmer, and we all know where is real mesmer asura, but if i meet charr mesmer. its epic. i start panic ^^

once in a fairy tale i go with fractal 3 mesmer in pt it was rly fast and fun run, 30 sec time warp rule this world. so imo not class guilty, mb bad hands? i run with phantasm build (soldier/bers) heal group, remove boons or feedback if needed. and i still do alot of dmg.
and 1 question, how u run dredge fractal without feedback??

well u got +250 healing. stay near phantoms give u perma regeneration. with 250 healing it nice bonus. but ofc u need creat phantasm build then. but we have investigate 3-4 phantom builds 100%. but u better make it self. “know ur all aspect of mesmer"

well null field for chaos armor very good. and + some suport for ur group

take empowered iliusion without phantasmal strengh not so good imo. u lose half potencial
but if u wanna do dmg with phantoms deceptive evasion not allways good. because dodge replace phantasm (if it up 3)
and u dont have any cond removal, so imo remove 10 points from dominations and put it in inspiration. in small group u not allways have guard or ele who remove conditions from party. u have a lot def but very low hp. condition masters burn u fast. think about valkir trinket set instead cavalier or just half set
ur build depend on autoatack, some shater and some phantasm dmg?

Dodge into the clones. Stay on the real mesmer, which isn’t always easy to do. You can use the clones for easy c/d for stealth, since they are usually either on top of you or stationary.

GC Mesmers frequently have bad condition removal, so the poison field from the short bow can be useful.

Just my own experience, but the main tell for me that points to mesmers being a little too strong with less counters than other professions is that I only really fear other mesmers when playing my mesmer.

Not saying that I can’t be beat by other professions, of course I can, but fighting mesmers is as difficult on my mesmer as it is when I’m playing another profession.

That’s less a product of power and more a product of play style.

Mesmers and Thieves both possess high in-combat mobility and burst, so they’re good counters for each other. That doesn’t mean they’re the only professions of equal power, though. D/D Eles, BM Rangers, (etc.) are all in the same tier, or higher, but certain professions are always going to be either stronger or weaker when matched against certain others due to their play style. Think of it like rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock.

mesmer play style dont tethering for weapons to much, its all about utility and traits. if with thief u can put random traits like 6/3/18/4/2 and still do something good. with mesmer u must use brains. till 40-45 its not so easy pve. when u take first traits 0/0/0/0/5 around 15 lvl u start kill mobs a lil faster. and when u get 0/20(X)/0/0/5 u become a killing machine. and mesmer class is about trick, troll, confuse enemy.
end game (high-end) mesmer are terminator. can kill almost every mob/champion/boss in game solo. mesmer find party very easy pve. very useful utility skills in wvw. and almost unbeatable in pvp 1 vs 1
but if u rly like mesmer u can become a master, if u wanna more, just like ram, kill mobs without fun, better play warrior/ranger

I have finally fully embraced the GW2 version of the Mesmer and no longer pine for my lost GW1 abilities. But this post raises a good question, and it makes me think about what kind of things I miss doing in the old builds.

After all, if we get a new elite skill, I would rather see it be something simple and easy to use in all builds, including under-water combat. Another phantasm just doesn’t seem to be what I am missing.

So I would like to have the original Echo elite skill again. Use Echo, and the next skill you use is copied, and takes its place on the skill bar. Of course the cooldown would be long and fixed, and not based on the copied skills CD.

So I could have two iDuelist, two Chaos Storms, two Arcane Thievery, etc. I could see if your heal skill, mantras and signets are excluded, but it would make for some interesting skill chains.

Well, kinda hard to have fun for us (Arborstone).
Last evening, on our prime time, we were outmanned on every map. This morning we had nothing left.
That’s not a big deal for the dedicated wvw players, we’re still going to fight as hard as we can
But i’m afraid we’ll loose a lot of “casual/occasionnal” players who are easily bored when they get stomped time after time.

We’ll see how it goes this week.

Yeah i agree with this,Arborstone has no place vs us and Gandara espec..they are outmanned all the time,how can this be fun for a server ? It isnt…they keep losing every tower + their keep ( right now again ) in EB.and Gandara…you already have a kittenload of people…tone it down on that nightzerg,it’s not needed going around capping empty towers with no resistance at all.How is this fun ? Rather stop playing at night and come back when theres some people to face atleast…As of now in EB,Arborstone side totally red again..Gandara,no offense but,you see Arbor being outmanned like this..Why not back off a bit and hit us FSP now instead ? I think its a bad idea to go full force on a low pop server..let these people have some fun already.Because if this goes on,they wont have any at all the entire week,and you prob will be facing even less people.

first of all. torch not for phantom mesmer.
second armor on conditions dmg for phantoms not good as mostly can think.
if u wanna do dmg with phantasms u need decide, defender or disenchanter (i for defender) because u can have only 3 ilusions up. if it defender and disenchanter in same time, u left only 1 free space for wep phantom who do dmg. and when u press decoy or triger desperate decoy, u lose 1 phantom. better replace disenchanter for signet of ilusion or blink

and traits +- good, but imo desperate decoy better if u have 30 points in chaost tree.

btw sigils on crit chance dont work on phantoms

It’s been quite interesting to read and from such experienced discussion however it has strayed off from original topic. It’s also bit sad to see this discussion move to an I-kill-you-so-my-point-is-proven. Everyone has their own playstyle, and just like other builds in other classes some builds will show an advantage more than other in certain situations.

Case in point: Phantasm mesmers are very strong 1v1 but not every battle is a 1v1 unless you look for duels only. I believe they get weaker as more players join the fray while shatter mesmers do pretty nice aoe.

It would be nice to see more constructive posts on the weaknesses of phantasm build, as asked by the OP. From what I’ve learned so far, constant pressure is key otherwise. Easiest with 2v1. Would lots of CC or conditions be good? I’m wondering about those cc bunker guardians or necro/engi respectively.

direct dmg>condition dmg in this game imo. conditions on phantasm mesmer not so big problem (if it not poison on 30 sec, because phanmesmer have perma regen, with 250 healing from trait, nice boost) sometimes engi with elite skill have nice condition burst. but if u avoid it, u probably win easy. and against 1 vs 2 if u vs guard bunker and necro. u win 90% for sure. ofc if ur ALL wep and utility skil are on cd. u die

then if u kill phantom mesmer easy. it because they dont have skill. right? then skilled mesmer beat your kitten easy. simple
