I’ll never understand people who go to a pvp zone, get pvped, then say to themselves “there’s something legitimately wrong with me getting pvped in a pvp zone, I should go complain about this in the forums, that’s going to help”. If you think about what you’re saying for a half a second you’ll realize it makes no sense at all.
So according to the matchup site (which has reset all the server ratings to 1500 in preparation for the actual reset), it currently has the winners of tiers 5, 7 and 8 as the new tier 1. So, Sorrows Furnace will go to tier 1 because they’re winning by a significant amount in tier 8…. meanwhile JQ is 2nd in tier 1 so they will be in tier 5… yeahhhh… so this has got to be most idiotic idea I’ve ever heard. I honestly can’t think of a better way to make next weeks matchups MORE unbalanced… good job I guess?
Guest and get your soldier’s exotic jewelry if you need.
Could you guys make some videos of the new footsteps and post them on youtube so we can see? I’m very curious about what they look like
Apparently this update has changed the visual effects for many legendaries, including giving footstep effects to: The Moot, Quip, The Predator, and Howler. If you have any of these legendaries could you please post a video showing everyone what these new footsteps look like? I’m sure we’re all very curious to know!
And the flower and unicorn bows are less ridiculous? I have no problem with them putting weapons skins like Quip and Dreamer into the game, but don’t make them THE legendary for an item. There might be some people who want a silly unicorn bow, but legendaries should have a more broad appeal, like the GS ones. There not going to change anything about it now though…
This talk about a holiday confuses me. Last time I checked, if you get the day off of work/school then you have more time to play, not less.
Or they’ve killed the same boss a million times and just want to afk auto-attack and go make a sandwich? People are going to take the path of least resistance, it’s human nature.
Point 1) An item cannot appear on the TP unless it has been LISTED once.
This is not universally true. Some legendaries that have never been listed have a page on the trading post (like legendary trident), you can tell this from both the trading post websites and the fact that you can’t put in buy orders for them until someone lists one. Yet some legendaries that haven’t been listed don’t appear (like legendary spear). It appears to be almost random.
It’s not even remotely “trolling”. It’s a PvP zone dude, that means people kill each other. If you can’t handle small fights then run with zerg, you can get plenty of badges that way too.
This is getting totally out of control and demands an emergency patch for removal. All I have heard on TS tonight is “kittenING golems in a box”, the times I go check out out teams on sieges, there are 6+ JQ guys doing nothing but pumping golem boxes. The people defending this seriously need to have their heads examined.
You can use them too?
They are not “easily” countered. If they’re inexperienced enough to put them on or near the cliff edge then yes you can kill them with ballistas or arrow carts. But there have been times when no matter the arrow cart placement you can’t get numbers on them because they’re back far enough. Also that presumes that the enemy is willing to let you build siege there in the first place, and if your not being pushed off by enemy players they can easily build a catapult on the cliff on the right near the stairs at garrison and AOE that spot where you build arrow carts all day yet you can’t hit it. What I’m saying is this shouldn’t be an issue at all, period. You can’t treb hills from garrison, no reason why you should be able to treb bay.
This is something I would really like to see fixed in a future patch: the cliffside at garrison should be moved back so you can’t hit bay walls with trebs from inside garrison. Tower’s being within treb range makes sense to me, but there is absolutely no reason why you should be able to hit a keep from inside another keep, it’s idiotic. Moving that cliff back so garrison is out of range instantly elevates the defensibility of bay to be equal with hills and balances the map, like it should be.
There are about 3 levels: (1) Cooking is by far the cheapest, it costs a gold or less if you do your research. (2) Artificer and jeweler are next at around 2-3g. (3) All the other ones, which are rather more expensive.
When I bought this game I knew I wanted to play WvW with tons of active players, but I rolled my characters during headstart on a server that turned out to be low tier. I transferred to JQ way back in the day when it was established as a WvW-centric server and it’s honestly the best decision I’ve made. This server has tons of great and very active guilds along with really cool people and great commanders. On top of that, everyone is super loyal to JQ and would never dream of switching servers, which one of the major reasons why we’ve been able to maintain tier 1 since the beginning.
TL;DR: If you want to play on a super active server with amazing WvW fights, consider coming to JQ before the opportunity is closed forever (unless you pay!).

Considering how strongly Anet reacted to the whole snowflake/ecto “exploit” thing, I think they know that some people made a zillion exotic jewelry pieces (when they only cost 1 ecto) to turn into commendations to get BL keys. I will be surprised if after the “restocking” the BL keys are still there tbh.
…aaand my speculation proves correct. By the way, posting pics showing that you have 76,500 tokens probably didn’t help your case. That’s 268 keys, costing over 24,000 gems, or $300.
… and I don’t want to fill the warchests of people flipping lodestones.
No one is flipping lodestones, no profit in it:
http://www.guildwarstrade.com/search?name=lodestone&sort=buy_volume&order=-1&category=-1&subcategory=-1&rarity=-1&levelmin=0&levelmax=80&available=0
But we’re talking about bufffood here that lasts for a mere 30 seconds. It should really not be such an inconvenience to cook such food.
Hmm? Don’t you mean 30 minutes?
I run ruby orbs on my glass build. I could get any rune set I want, but I really like the consistency of ruby orbs. 120 power, 84 precision, and 12% crit dmg is really nice (scholar is 165 power, 8% crit dmg). Scholar is greater dps but only if you’re above 90% (which is what, like one tap from a mob?). I use fire sigil on my GS, after testing on the mist dummies put it just ahead of force sigil (5% dmg) in single target dps, and it has the added bonus of being an AOE.
The rings are unique, so you cannot equip two of the exact same ring, eg. two Red Ring of Death at once. If you want the same stat combo you need the other ring with those stats, eg. one Red Ring of Death and one Crystalline Band.
I know Anet deems this strategy completely legit, but it’s rather tiresome for people who are trying to save for their legendary, like Kuzdu:
http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/29172
Someone buys all the the precursors and relists them for double the price. I see it happened with Chaos Gun too:
http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/29174 (click on All)
Basically means the people trying to get their legendary are “gold farming” for the ultra rich (possibly gold sellers) who are manipulating the market. I have to say that this is very disconcerting.
Waypoints are currently the most powerful upgrade in the game but there are a few issues.
They are only inactive when the defense quest is active, are you guys planning on disabling them slightly longer than the defense quest to allow attackers to keep the defenders from spawning there just as the defense quest lapses?
For example under the current system I can count down on voip the defense quest and spawn in everyone right as it hits zero and before attackers can reflag the keep.
This is definitely a bug. I’ll see about leaving the rally points disabled for a few extra seconds after the event has completed. That way it just stays disabled if the event starts back up.
I would be very careful with this, since it would be a dramatic change if this is “fixed.” I don’t know about other tiers, but in tier 1 waiting for the timer is basically the only way to get into most keeps, since they are perma-contested. If you change this, waypoints instantly become worthless, unless you also make it so that a single thief can’t simply tap a keep to make it contested forever.
(edited by elderan.2638)
Yeah, they should change the tooltip instead of fixing the fact that the actual skill should be 20 seconds -_-
3 days worth of work, no biggy.
If you have a consistent way of earning 50g a day I’m all ears.
What is the minimum cost( gold and silver ) to get 400 exp( maximum rank ) in cooking ?
I leveled cooking 0-400 on my alts last week for precisely 37.11s and 1484 karma each. Admittedly I did way way more research than your average player is willing to do, and the guide I made for myself wouldn’t work for thousands of people doing it. That being said, you can get the price very low by carefully studying the all the recipes for each level and the current prices. I used http://www.guildwarstrade.com/recipes.
How many levels will I reach with it ?
It will take you from level 2 to level 15. I think it varies depending on what level you are when you start it though, 10 levels are the minimum I believe.
No thanks, my system is way above min specs, but giving me and anyone else the option to turn it off and thereby creating a two tier PvP system with those that can see other players and those that can’t, is simply a bad idea. (nor for that matter would it necessarily solve the issues)
By that rationale we should all suffer because some people’s systems can’t keep up? That makes zero sense. It’s like saying the game should be capped at 10fps because some peoples systems can’t get more fps. A person with 10fps has a distinct disadvantage over someone with 60fps in pvp, but no one would suggest giving them 10fps to compensate. This is what’s currently happening with culling however.
I don’t that that is practical, or even desirable. If anybody who didn’t want to use culling could just turn it off completely, ANet would have no control at all over how much bandwidth was being required at any one time for their servers. Habib said that ANet was willing to buy additional bandwidth (which they OBVIOUSLY really need), but he didn’t said that ANet was willing to buy infinite amounts of it. If ANet was not able in some manner to dynamically control the volume of input/output data being required from their systems (which is exactly what culling is there for), the game could literally lock up as if ANet was the target of a denial-of-service-attack.
He already said that the plan is to turn off culling completely. If it’s turned off for everyone that would obviously be the maximum bandwidth consumption possible. If people could either have culling on or off that would mean less bandwidth consumption than they’re planning for, since people with culling on consume less bandwidth.
Agreed. Creating a game where the “haves” have a clear advantage over the “have nots” is bad for business and bad for the game. People will just tune out and quit playing if their system wasn’t “up-to-snuff”.
That’s rather over-dramatic. A huge number of games have “draw distance” in the graphics settings so that people with slower computers can run at a decent fps by not rendering the players/objects that are further away (similar to culling). People who kept culling on would notice zero difference from what they have now, they would have no reason to “quit” over anything.
Habib: The consensus here is pretty clear, since many people are suggesting essentially the same thing: that culling should be placed in settings where the user can control it. Those who have bandwidth or rendering issues can simply leave culling on and have the exact same performance they get now. Those who have systems that can handle the increased bandwidth/rendering would have the option to turn off culling completely. If this is at all possible, please consider implementing this.
Personally I would never buy it at those prices, but that’s irrelevant since there are people who will, and they are buying them at a rate that’s close to the rate at which they are being posted on the TP, so the price stays high. That being said, I really hope that Anet increases the drop rate, makes it so you can turn in dungeon tokens for lodestones, or something to lower the current (ridiculous) prices.
PS: if the lodestones are that expensive blame the stupid buyers that are willing to buy them for insane prices if they didn’t prices would drop, no one likes to see his items not selling in the TP.
That’s not how supply and demand works. If the supply is low and the demand is high (like for lodestones) the price will stay high, period. There are thousands of people who each need 100 charged lodestones to make Sunrise, but at this moment there are only 781 on the TP. Demand = 100,000’s, if not millions (since they are used for many other things), Supply = 781. This means only the richest of the people who want them will get it. “People not buying them” is not a solution, only way to change the ridiculous price is to increase supply.

Thank you for responding and I enjoyed reading your reply since it cleared up most of my confusion.
As far as points 2 and 3 are concerned, it seems to me that the limitations of the lowest common denominator shouldn’t be affecting every player like they are now. I have high speed internet and a decently fast computer (like most players), my setup would have no problems whatsoever with the increase in bandwidth or the increased number of players to render. You could turn off culling right now and the problem would instantly be fixed. I understand that you need to consider those people who would have bandwidth or rendering issues, but that seems like their problem, not mine. If their system can’t handle it, make it so they can go into Options and turn on/off culling if they want to. This seems like something that could be implemented rather quickly and would make everyone happy.
I still haven’t seen a satisfactory answer to why this is even a problem or why culling is in the game at ALL. Tons of other games have huge numbers of players on the screen at once with no problems whatsoever. Seems to me there must be another reason, like Anet wanting to save on bandwidth or something.
“I facepalm every time I see more than 1 glass cannon in a party.”
I guess it’s rather subjective, since some of the fastest and cleanest dungeon/fractal runs that I’ve done were with all glass cannons like myself. Problem is there are people who don’t know how to play glass cannon and make life a pain for everyone else. That could be said for any play style though. I think the “best” combination is simply the one with 5 people who know how to play their particular style well.
They’re also used to craft runes like Superior Rune of the Scholar. They need to increase the drop rate significantly or put in different ways to acquire them like someone suggested dungeon tokens.
Lodestones for Karma, not dungeon tokens…or both. There is nothing to do with Karma, perfect use.
Which is why Anet would never go for that, lodestones would instantly become extremely cheap. Using COF tokens to buy Molten Lodestones or COE tokens to buy Charged Lodestones makes some sense from a lore perspective too.
They’re also used to craft runes like Superior Rune of the Scholar. They need to increase the drop rate significantly or put in different ways to acquire them like someone suggested dungeon tokens.
No refunds unfortunately.
I think it would be pretty cool, however it would have to produce a “Box of Legendary Armor”, since grinding for 6 legendary pieces would be insane.
The fact that this thread even exists blows my mind. Anet seems to have created such a fear of “exploiting” that people question everything they do. If giving my siege to the commander so that he can choose where to place it is wrong then I don’t want to be right.
You can easily solo tixx, just so you know.
So they nerfed the recipe to require 5 ectos now. Problem solved I guess.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do with them that’s useful other than turning them into a pittance of silver at the vendor?
Presently they are pretty much only worth 5s, which is silly. I posted in the suggestions forum that they should make it so you can salvage them for some Pristine Relics (maybe 1-3?). Would mean turning your unwanted rings —> wanted rings.
Something else that would make perfect sense is making Ascended rings salvageable and give Pristine Relics. I have rings I don’t want, it only makes sense to let me break them down for the component that lets me buy the ring I do want.
I’m confused, doesn’t the recipe require an ecto? How exactly does this net you ectos?
My middle finger would thank you, and he doesn’t thank anybody.
We should at least be given the option to break down shards/globs to 5 of the lower tier.
You can. Apparently the recipe is “Shard or Glob of Mist Essence + Mystic Coin + Fractal Relic + Master Salvage Kit = 3 of lower tier essence”
Just curious, what’s the rational behind having a bunch of precision (and hence +crit rate) but without the +crit damage? And there are plenty of players who wouldn’t use it since it has vitality instead of a dps stat.
Thank you guys for adding in Pristine Relics to let us choose our ring! I do have some left over rings that I don’t want however (and vendoring them for 5s seems like such a waste). Why not let us salvage them, and have them give some Pristine Relics and maybe a few Vials/Globs/Shards of Mist Essence? Seems perfectly logical to me!
^Can we get a confirmation of that? Would be a nice recipe.
Drops from fractals I believe.
