WvW Meta Melee/Healing Warrior

Pros/Cons

Using the strategy outlined here can make you an unstoppable annoyance that people will bring their friends to fight. Like the condi/healing build before it, this build only suffers from heavy amounts of pressure from berzerker focused players, and only if they get the drop on you. However with this build, since you are not confined to condition based weapons, you have a lot more choices to defend. Used in the build outline here is a rifle, which is basically a compliment to the longbow before it. You could easily use a hammer or greatsword if the situation presented itself.

Stats (Zealot, Magi, Cleric)

This build focuses on trying to achieve a maximum balance between melee damage and healing. Power, precision, toughness, and healing power are the focused stats. The goal is to achieve 2800+ attack, 30% critical chance, 20% critical damage, 2800+ toughness, 25,000+ health, and 1000+ healing power. Through the usage of consumables, bloodlust sigil, sigil of battle, signet of rage, and borderlands bloodlust this is definitely obtainable and can increase attack over 3000. By keeping attack over 2800 and your critical chance around 30%, combined with 20% critical damage from traits you can net a good hard hit against any player. You won’t be making berzerker level damage, but it will be enough to put pressure on the opponent. While you’re doing that you have over 2800 toughness which is basically a sweet spot for mitigating enough damage to be worthwhile. With over 1000+ healing power as well you are regenerating roughly 450 hp per second from healing signet and with your banner out another, again roughly, 230 hp. Through the combination of melandru runes, lemongrass poultry soup, and dogged march trait you can mitigate up to 98% of incoming condition duration depending on the condition, but at all times you will be mitigating 65% incoming condition duration of all conditions.

Traits

0/0/20/30/20. Dogged march to add condition duration mitigation and extra regeneration. Cleansing ire to gain adrenaline on hit to improve regeneration and cure conditions. Leg specialist to create an immobilize out of throw axe and aimed shot. Inspiring banners to improve your fight radius and banner cooldown. Inspiring battle standard to create regeneration from banner placement, the cornerstone of any healing build. Signet master to reduce signet cooldown to keep your stats at max as much as possible. Sharpened axes to reduce axe cooldowns and create extra adrenaline. As a side note, sharpened axes plus cleansing ire will max your adrenaline creation making sure you have a lot to play with and also lots to regenerate from via adrenal health.

Weapons

One of the best things about the condi equivalent of this build is its ability to do melee and ranged damage using conditions and this build does the same thing but with melee damage instead. The axe and rifle are great “power” weapons and utilize power and critical chance much better than some other weapons. Throw axe and aimed shot with leg specialist trait can slow and immobilize twice. Shield bash and rifle butt give you one stun and a knock back. Cyclone axe and brutal shot give you 12% increased incoming damage. Eviscerate and kill shot give you two very powerful finishers. If that wasn’t enough you still have shield stance for three seconds.

Skills

I will let you figure out the best attack rotation for your play style. For me, I don’t actually have a rotation. My skill use is based solely around the opponent and distance. Don’t use healing signet as much as possible because it only heals you when it is not being used. It isn’t that great of a direct heal so make sure to use it only when you have to. Berzerker stance gives you 8 seconds so use it wisely. Use it only when you need to against condition focused players. Dolyak signet like healing signet only increases your toughness when not being used so only use it when you fear a stun or knock back. Place your banner a few seconds after engaging the fight. Don’t throw the banner right away and don’t throw the banner until the opponent is close. Keep the element of surprise and then when you are ready throw the banner. Make sure signet of rage is up at all times, even when you are not fighting anyone, because you never know when they will come out of nowhere and you’ll be wishing you were “pumped up”.

WvW Meta Melee/Healing Warrior

in Warrior

Posted by: epborden.7492

epborden.7492

With the advent of Zealot’s gear being released I thought I would try to come up with and test a build using it. My findings are that it’s a great gear set for warrior when used in combination with other stats. I have been testing this concept in WvW and am finding great success. If you are still interested, read on.

Preface

My goal for this build was to basically create the melee equivalent of the “meta condi/healing warrior” that we hear so much about. Like the condition build mentioned you are going to sacrifice some direct damage for healing power. There are two condition focused builds for warrior: dire or rabid gear and going full on condition damage; settler, shaman, or apothecary gear for condition damage and healing power. You might be thinking that cleric’s gear would work, and it does, but the problem with it is you lose a ton of melee damage also. There really is not a good combination of stats that can give you what, as an example, settler or apothecary gear does but in melee form. So the only thing you can really do to create an equivalent melee build is use a combination of gear, food, and stats.

This is a pretty common problem with throttling that happens due to heat/load/power. These new processors have that built in. At least that is the conclusion I had based upon my research into the same problem.

I just did a traceroute to my server on the east coast and it returned back OK. I do not have a bad connection. Speed test checks out and having zero problems elsewhere with any services. The issue has to be with the game. I just started experiencing it this week/weekend. I can play in short bursts before I get hit with a game stopping lag. For lack of a better term, annoying.

[WvW] Tower/Keep gates bugged.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: epborden.7492

epborden.7492

This is definitely a bug. Gates are bugged in general and have been for months. For instance on repairing a gate, if you are in the middle of the gate being repaired, you can get stuck INSIDE the gate when it pops. This has happened to me two or three times and I have had people try to portal me out, but you can’t because nothing is in line of sight. This is a huge problem because other players can’t hit you either. As an example you could indefinitely tag a keep and never receive waypoints or waypoint access.

Warrior: Distracting Strikes

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

epborden.7492

I am traited for Distracting Strikes and it seemed to work without using Runes of Perplexity. It didn’t stack as I thought it would either. I thought it would stack after every interrupt but it doesn’t seem to be the case. The tooltip does not mention a cooldown so I am not sure why. Secondly after going 6/6 with Runes of Perplexity I am only able to apply on hit via the Runes and not with Distracting Strikes also. Neither seem to stack as they should. Either that or there is some kind of logic going on behind the scenes that is not represented in tooltips in game. There is basically not enough information surrounding the trait, the runes, or a combination of the two. I am having fun using the build I am running… it is applying sometimes, and that is effective, but regardless it is definitely not working as I would expect based on the information that is available in the game. Can a developer please take a look at this?

New patch causes severe FPS drops on Mac's

Can’t say I’m having the same issues. I was able to tweak some of the tg settings in config and that helped. I am getting much better fps now in WvW. I am on a MBPro with the GT650M 512MB. I still get drops when there are a lot of players and complex terrain, or in a city with complex terrain, and I can’t play the new WvW map at all. Those issues are because my computer is limited though, and not really ANet’s fault.

Still worth getting into?

epborden.7492

Well I’ve heard some things are happening. Lion’s Arch might be destroyed. A new world boss might be coming. Two-handed weapons are getting double sigils and sigils are getting a rework. They just added a new WvW map that plays different, and the terrain is all over the place plus it is in the sky. More players have had the time to play so you’ll meet a lot of good people to play against in PvP and WvW.

Greataxe?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: epborden.7492

epborden.7492

Why is there no greataxe? It just seems odd since there is the equivalent with other weapons.

There is:
Sword -> Greatsword
Mace -> Hammer
Axe -> ?

It seems like it would be a relatively easy thing to add. It could be wielded by the heavy armor classes. That’s 10 skills.

Do you think it would be a cool addition?

100% Buff Duration Warrior

The point of posting a build here is not that it has been created or not already, of course it has been created already the game has been out over a year. The point is to share the build to those that haven’t seen the build yet.

Unfortunately for this build, if the hearsay is right on runes, the duration stacking via these runes will no longer work. I hope it isn’t true, but I’m pretty sure it might be true. So this build may not work once the changes happen.

If you don’t want any regen then take Carpboy’s build. It’s seriously amazing. HOWEVER, if you DO still want some regen and more survivability in WvW then take this modded build of Carpboy’s build. This build has Carpboy’s philosophy but with regen swapped in, so your condi damage will be lesser but regen will be available.

Note: This build has common elements found in other builds currently circulating. The thing I did with this build that makes it worth your time is it is built on a base of equipment that you can easily get from the BLTC and Guild vendors for minimal (at this time) cost.

What is this build about?

This build is based around using regen and condition damage to survive and destroy. The downsides to this build are lack of extended mobility and ability to defend against constant glass cannon pressure. You’ll have bleeds, burns, and poisons. Two immobilizes with Flurry and Pin Down. With this build I have killed more people in WvW as a warrior than any other build I have ever used.

Stats

1400+ condition damage, 1100+ healing power, 3000 armor, 25k hp, 42sec boons including 1min30sec of swiftness! Your boons will run out 3 seconds before you can do another Signet of Rage! That’s almost permanent boons! That means you’ll have almost permanent 5 might, 20% crit, and swiftness that basically never runs out. After Potent Master Tuning Crystal and Sigil of Corruption you’ll have over 1400 condition damage! You’ll be healing around 1000hp per ~3sec.

What can I kill?

Great at killing: Necro’s, Mesmers, Guardians, Elementalists, Rangers, Condition Thieves, and other Warriors.
Hard at killing: Glass cannons, but only if the pressure is constant and distance is hard to maintain.

I would say, from personal experience after playing this game for over a year, that you should pick either a warrior, thief, or a mesmer. These classes, especially a warrior, can absolutely destroy when played right. The warrior, at least at this time, is a very strong choice and has every card up their sleeve.

New Charr faces clipping issue cultural armor

I recently bought a total makeover and decided to use one of the new Charr faces available, but much to my dismay the face projects through the helm skins of my character. So far I have noticed that this happens using the T3 cultural helm and breathing mask skins when under water. I’d like to keep the face, but seeing as how there probably won’t be a fix for it any time soon I’d like to request a refund on my gem purchases of the total makeover kit so I can at least go back to a face that works with the armor.

Edit: I made a support ticket for the later request, thanks.

epborden.7492

Here is my build, I’m calling it “Super Knight”. It’s awesome! I can 1vs1 better than I ever have, I’m super tough, and I can still put out good damage.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAseRjkONvFPuQMxBE0DNsKEwjCqgJUKmD7A-j0CBYfERjEEAkFQECgsBJL7sIaslRFRjVrETDjIq2aGzgmIqWKgKWGB-w

With full ascended gear you can get over 4000 armor. With exotic gear you can get over 3800 armor. This build has S/B and GS for maximum mobility. Healing signet for healing ticks when you need to run or get out of a range radius of attack. Shake it Off for removing conditions. Dolyak signet for extra armor and stability. Endure Pain for temporary invulnerability. Signet of Rage for stat boosts. Frostgorge clams and sharpening stone for added precision and toughness. Melandru runes for extra toughness and too minimize condition duration.

Classes to watch out for in 1vs1: Condition necro, D/P thief. The condition necro you down a lot easier than the D/P thief.

The objective of this class is to keep you mobile and not let you get pinned down while being super tough and putting out good damage. I would recommend stacking bloodlust with your main sword to 25 before roaming. Stay mobile at all times.

Savage Leap > Shield Bash > Flurry —- switch to G/S —- Hundred Blades (2-3 hits max) > Bladetrail > Whirldwind Attack > Rush

Roam at a safe distance to get some healing signet ticks. Savage Leap, Whirlwind Attack, or Rush to stay mobile. Cure conditions with Shake it Off, activate Dolyak Signet, or activate Endure Pain if necessary. Then go back through your attack cycle switching it up as the opponent changes his routine to get the most efficient attack.

The key to winning in WvW is to know your opponent before you attack them, stay mobile while you are attacking them, know when to run, and keep an eye on your surroundings for other opponents or zergs. Sometimes I can’t finish a fight, and I will run. That’s OK, because there is ALWAYS someone else to fight. If you get into a fight and you aren’t winning and you know you can’t win, then run.

How many Chars will you gear w/ ascended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: epborden.7492

epborden.7492

Still as of today I have not and will not gear any of my characters with ascended gear. The time sink is too much to warrant the return on investment. In all practicality you are investing a ton of personal time and money into something that generally has almost no return accept for a 5% increase in stats and of course appearance should you keep the skins. In all of my gameplay experience I have not encountered any situation where 5% was what changed a win to a loss. That same 5% is generally targeted towards the player’s skill level, meaning that 5% of extra stats can be completely negated by the skill of a player. In this regard I feel the system has been poorly implemented and is simply an after thought as they try to work off the popularity of the original legendary items. They don’t want everyone to easily get ascended gear of any kind, which is understandable because that would create yet more expectations of vertical progression which is a never ending battle. However, simply creating more gear that takes an enormous investment to obtain is not really a solution it is just a paltry method to obtain player satisfaction. So I am really not surprised to see many players responding with the same thoughts and the fact they will not be taking it upon themselves to work with this system. If the system doesn’t work people won’t do it, and it doesn’t, so they aren’t.

Will we be informed on the visions for 2014?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: epborden.7492

epborden.7492

Well I think it is obvious they will be creating an expansion at some point. There are currently more than a few undiscoverable areas on the main map that clearly indicate possibilities to expand content. I’m under the impression that the living story system is basically a way to close the gap between regular content and expansion content. Create a link if you will between what is and isn’t. They can lead a story up to and then unfold and expansion based on what happened in that living story. I’m not sure that is what they do, but it makes sense. I’m not saying next year we will see an expansion, but we might, and I know many players would be overjoyed to explore a new area of Tyria. More than a few new MMO’s are releasing in 2014 and to stay competitive ArenaNET will have to consider a more hardcore approach to expanding the game beyond living stories and offerings through the Gem Store. If they don’t, we can probably expect the player base to continue to decline as they move towards newer and different interests.

Buy BLTC/AH items outside of the game?

epborden.7492

Last week I picked up playing Guild Wars 2 again, and it has been fantastic as it was before. The fact that I don’t have to pay monthly is awesome. There is just one thing that would complete my world and that is the aforementioned.

I have a full-time job and a full-time life and I’m quite busy almost all the time. I also have a family. Most of the time I play late at night when I have some free time, if I do. I also have an addiction to buying stuff from the AH or BLTC. The problem is I have to login to the game to get any information as to my hopeful purchase(s). I can’t imagine how much money is being lost simply because adults such as myself can’t easily access either system from their desk, their tablet from the couch, or even their cell phone.

Hopefully this will gain some traction from ANet, but my question is if/when this kind of service will be offered to the players? My wallet is ready.

Imbalance in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: epborden.7492

epborden.7492

Imbalance, it is killing WvW and player morale. You eventually fall into two camps: You’re on the winning side dominating everything, and eventually you do dominate everything, and at that point there is zero challenge because you’ve taken everything and there is nothing to do except catch roamers and defend from the occasional insurgence; or you’re getting dominated, eventually get completely dominated, and can’t retaliate in enough force to counter the oppositions force. I think we can all agree that when we do have three worlds competing, constantly taking land and losing land, that this is the most fun and also the most appropriate for WvW. I know I am not alone with this, and I also know there are those that would argue on the other side of the fence. I’d like to initiate some discussion on this since I have personally seen it yet on this board.

Warriors can be great when condition-centric in WvWvW. Just stack up on Prec/Tough/Cond gear and weapons (maybe some Valk for your accessories) and run sword/shield and longbow. Load up on shout healing and the precision trait line to stack more condition damage and you’re set. Groups won’t be able to even get close to the keep doors.

However, just remember that when you go condition warrior you will get eaten alive in 1vs1. Your role is to support your group and defend. Light them up!

You are aware that your 2 yr old Mac Book pro is not upto running the Mac Client which actually is NOT a native client, it is a Cider wrapper so it more grunt for that than just a 2 yr old Mac Book pro.

You seem to have an uninformed comment seeing as the requirements for mac clearly state my mid-2010 15" MBP should run “well” according to the specs listed on the site. I am aware this is a Cider wrapper and I said that I was NOT expecting it to run as well, but the disparity is alarming. Don’t you dare talk down to me like that.

And for all the follow-up comments, don’t assume I’m just trolling. I’ve tried every tweak provided by what was formerly a friendly mac community including the MT3D and video memory settings. Unless you’re about to invent something new, I’ve seen what is already available (for future reference tweaking the MT3D setting was the only one that worked noticeably for me, even though it only seemed to help with fps stabilization).

Ok guys, I have a mid-2012 MBP with Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and the Geforce GT 650M 512MB and 8GB of RAM, and the game runs fine on this system except for the fact that because I have the 512MB it will stutter for the first few moments after loading a new environment. This is because of the low amount of video memory, it has to swap textures back to my RAM more often basically unloading pressure from the VRAM so it doesn’t choke completely. Take my specs as a reference as my game runs smooth except for the issue above. If I were to have 1GB of VRAM or more, it would be much better.

I am pretty sure thats not because of your 512mb video memory, as I have moments of stutter after zoning with a retina MBP with 1GB memory, then it smooths out. Look at attached screenshots of video memory usage before and after launching GW2 (full graph is 1GB), it’s very minimal and by comparing this graph and looking at in game memory statistics, it’s only about 111mb. Also Mac client only have medium textures…

[Edit:] In LA it increased to about 250mb memory used.

Ah, good to know. I never tested anything so I just assumed I was maxing out. In the past, that’s been the case.

Take my specs as a reference as my game runs smooth except for the issue above. If I were to have 1GB of VRAM or more, it would be much better. Also, on my Windows laptop with a GTX 260M and 1GB of VRAM it still lags considerably worse than the GT 650M I have now. So more RAM in an older card doesn’t mean better performance than a newer card with less RAM. Newer generation cards run this game much better because the CPU architecture has been updated and it handles GW2 rendering easier. If you are running the Mac client and have less than the specs I have, then you WILL have trouble.

So my recommendations are:

1) If your MB/MBP supports greater than 4GB of RAM, then upgrade your RAM. It’s relatively cheap and easy to install yourself.

2) If your MB/MBP has the auto-switch of graphics cards option (found in newer dual card setups), turn this off so your MB uses your better card as the primary.

3) Get SMC Fan Control (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23049/smcfancontrol) and create a profile to run your fans at 4-6K (maximum) since GW2 will burn your computer up!

4) Close all applications other than GW2 while playing, it’s resource intensive!

5) Use the “Auto-detect” feature allowing GW2 to find optimal settings for your computer. If that doesn’t do justice, try tweaking the values lower than that until you find a place you’re comfortable.

6) Setup Bootcamp, install Windows 7, and run the Windows GW2 client instead using drivers from NVIDIA.

7) Buy a new computer.

Yes! Actually, this is very close to my build. However, this build does NOT have to be low in damage. Here is a link to my build that I use for… well, everything.

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mVRkcc0MzmaRvmmaRvmG0Gx0cVMaoRb

It’s great everywhere. You’re multi-purpose allowing the ability to tank pretty well, and also do nice damage with your hammer. Not to mention you have control now in both weapon sets.

Keep Signet of Rage activated whenever possible, and when that ticks off use For Great Justice. This will almost literally enhance your power and crit all the time.

This build really shines when using as much P/V/T as you can get, and if you can’t get it, use Valkyrie until you can get it. Honestly, I’d recommend keeping some Valkyrie on board just to enhance your crit damage.

Keep a spare rifle, longbow, and horn in your bag and you’re set.

Honestly, you don’t seem that far off from what I play every day, just learn the play style of both weapon sets well and switch when necessary. Have fun!

How to kill the thief in WvW scenario

in WvW

I’m a warrior with 33k hp, 2.8k defense with hammer as primary, and 3k defense with sword/shield as secondary. I’m wearing P/V/T gear and running a 20/0/20/30/0 shout-based build. My armor is runed with soldier runes so my shouts also remove conditions. My hammer has a sigil to enhance control, and my shield has a sigil to enhance stun. My shouts are constantly healing, curing conditions, and the longer the fight continues my power increases and stays increased. This basically puts a thief at a big disadvantage since no matter what build they run they are usually toast or just run away. With the control of the hammer and sword/shield and constant buffs and healing they just don’t really know what to do. I’ve surprised many thieves and since running this build don’t think I’ve been taken down by one, I’m just too tough. There is only one thing a thief can do against me, and that’s run away.

tl;dr As a warrior just load up on P/V/T and carry a hammer and sword/shield. This will rock your world in WvW. You’ll own in 2 vs 1, sometimes even 3 vs 1, and you’ll obliterate in 1 vs 1.

I’ve been having the same issue. I finished up last week and have not received rewards either. Just yesterday I talked to someone in WvWvW and they also did not get their rewards.

100% map completion no reward

I’m not really sure where to post this. Recently I got 100% map completion but received zero rewards for it. I’m on the quest to make a legendary and knocked this out first. So I’ve checked just about everything and have done some research and still have no reward. I was talking to a few in WvWvW today and apparently I’m not the only one with the issue. I don’t know if this is a global issue but I’m in the can at the moment.
