According to polls at gw2wvw.net there will be very little shift in populations as money is not a real great Input into decision making.

Theres also the 24/7 action and instant action in WvW in the upper Tiers which is very elusive to the casual gamer and hadcore players, both alike. Offcourse some prefer different sorts of action, and for those, i think they might take advantage of the free transfers.

Remember, free transfers to lower tiers was a request by the community. See, Anet listens

If money is not an input into decision making about transfers why does your server and others pay other people’s transfer fees?

Edit: Looked at the poll. 20% of the people who voted are transferring? That seems like a pretty big shift to me.

The only decision that matters to WvW guilds is whether they will get good fights 24/7. As for the the gems/gold that it costs, a hardcore WvW will find a way…

Hence the mass exodus from the lower tiers.

FA is still looking for WvW and PvX guilds to round out our coverage in Tier 2.

There’s great fights up here with all the best GvG guilds near the top.

We have a fairly strong sPvP/tPvP presence also.

This has been FA’s experience as well. Starting to see that cross map skill lag again as well…where you can see the crossed swords on the map and experience skill lag miles away.

Unfortunately the Developers of GW2 care too much about PVE and making $$ than they do about the PVP side of the game “Epic World Battles” was one of the BIG selling points of this game yet they are NOT very EPIC at all.

My guess is that ANET isn’t seeing the numbers or money revenue in WvW to have it compete for development time with PVE.

Blame? Who cares what blame anyone from the top 2 tiers has. You all are trying to stack so hard that it’s crippling the game and feeding into the exact BS you all complain about. Zerg balls, over population and all around just bad game play that forces people to abuse the aoe cap and stack with 70 other bodies to claim superiority. Then you further complain that DB might end in tier 2 and ruin your precious stack wars. It’s beyond stupid.

People stack to these servers for the fights.

Most of the hardcore WvW guilds are in the top six servers, and they want to fight each other.

The last time FA was down with you guys we were bored out of our minds. We were facerolling. Even when the numbers were even on both sides in the open field, we were dominating.

I don’t know what you expected. ANET gave us WvW this way, and people just want to have fun.

You’re new to WvW, so I’ll break it down for you:

WvW is a game of coverage. Servers that have the better coverage win the points game.

This is unfortunate, but do not expect ANET to change anything. While WvW is fun, it seems that they are not looking to make the matchups balanced in any way.

See how Dragonbrand is destroying the competition? Doesn’t seem fair and balanced for those servers, does it?

As of right now FA is trying to stay in Tier 2, to get good fights. We may have lost some rating to Dragonbrand, due to SoR imploding….this could drop us to Silver league…we are trying to stay out of it though…

So basically server stacking/coverage will define what rewards you get….

Dude, t2 isn’t like t3. T2 has almost all the guilds and several pugs from T3 now.

The T3 person I was responding to wrote, “We either win with 150+ people running around one week averaging 400 points a tick or lose with 30 people running around averaging 50 points a tick. It is rare to see stuff upgraded or superior siege placed anywhere.” T2 is like that too. The coverage balance on T2 servers is pretty bad currently. People don’t like to upgrade stuff that is gonna get nightcapped.

Yep. No one will upgrade if its going to be capped when they go to bed or go to work.

At least three days this week, FA has had outmanned enemy BL’s during primetime EST. We’ve never had that in the recent past…

People tired to play in game without new content to WvW and good balance patches…

Its honestly a combination of both.

People are tired of playing the PPT game when it only benefits servers that have better coverage. I mean why upgrade anything during your primetime when you know its going to be flipped after everyone goes to bed and/or work?

Its basically a catch 22 though, they don’t upgrade, and the people that play during those off hours are always on the defensive and getting screwed by having things not upgraded. Playing on the defensive all the time sucks. So people stack on servers to alleviate this issue, meanwhile Tier 8 and below servers are screwed for WvW population.

Couple all of that with the fact that the only new things in WvW are things that make defense stronger and/or take away population from WvW.

Changes listed here(feel free to add on):

1. WXP skills. There are some cool offensive ones, but on the majority the AC and Treb skills defensively out weigh the offensive traits. So basically you are stuck with AC wars instead of guildwars and normal RvR pvp. Not to mention trebs have annoying supply draining cloud or the fact that they still do damage through the door….

2. EOTM, lets face it, EOTM has stolen some population. Maybe not as much as people think, but couple that with people leaving WvW, and its effects are huge.

3. Traps!! Oh look another defensive mechanic!

Honestly population has dropped across the board for us.

Two outmanned BL’s during NA prime isn’t uncommon for our server. I would guess that the servers below us are suffering as well.

I think that people are a combination of bored(after 2k+ hours in wvw) and sick of the siege wars.

The only servers that haven’t seen a drop are the top 3, and they are stacked.

Last few nights there hasn’t been queues on the BL’s at all really…and there’s plenty of fights and stuff to take.

EB will have a queue at times, but its nothing like it used to be.

Reset nights you will find queue’s on any server thats rank 7 or higher at this point.

Plenty of people to play with in the morning.

There is no cash shop. And wonky RvR? The RvR is far better designed than WvW as is to be expected from having devs experienced in the mode, unlike anet. Plus it is far better optimised.

The issues with the game are more general: the graphics are not as attractive as GW2, but thats a rather shallow criticism. The combat isn’t as fluid but they are listening to feedback and making changes eg. making combat more weighty, starting PvE at the main city instead of the islands. AOE is less damaging but this is a good thing. Lastly there is the cost which may be something of a noose around its neck I admit.

Its a far more focused game so there’s less chance of that than there was say on Warhammer (for which Marc Jacobs seems to be unjustly blamed).

BUT….

ESO will definitely have a cash shop items. That doesn’t mean they will be necessary to be competitive in game, but still a cash shop. This has been reported numerous times. You seem like you enjoy ESO RvR a bit. I have not played it, I have six friends who have and they told me they liked it less than WvW. They told me its wonky(and gave me a bunch of reasons, we are off topic though so I was just making some quick points), but understood its still beta.

CU won’t be out until December 2015(ie basically 2016)…I can’t even begin to think about what I will be playing in 2016…thats two years away lol.

Yes, it seems like WvW population/participation is down.

Servers like BG, JQ, and now TC have no reason to complain. Many guilds have gone to those servers either in the past or recently. Any server below rank 8 or so is basically dead in WvW comparatively.

Some observations:

1. EOTM has stolen some players…not as much as some people think, but its definitely happened.

2. Many hardcore WvW players have over 2k hours in WvW…and they just don’t play as much as they used to. Some play less, some take breaks and will come back, and some have gone from the game forever.

3. PPT/coverage hurt WvW. Guilds leave for more populated servers, leaving smaller servers and other guilds with hard choices.

4. #3 is a multiple server problem, if a bunch of guilds leave from rank 6 server, and rank 7 guilds don’t have anyone to fight anymore, then they may wish to make a change also.

A note about TESO: Please remember it will be $15/month+cash shop. Couple that with some wonky RvR, and I really don’t think it will be stealing that many players away.

Wish there was some metadata we could scrape that would give us an idea which guilds take the most stuff.

You can certainly scrape who claims stuff, but that obviously doesn’t help.

Would be nice to know who takes the most stuff and/or gets the most “defend” awards.

SoR just couldn’t hang in with the coverage wars.

NA just hasn’t accepted the EU mentality yet. Those of us that play for the fights are much happier(FA, Mag).

PPT is pointless in a game mode, that is made to be unbalanced. Completely pointless.

Taking things does matter however…there’s no better way to get a fight than to attack a Tier 2 or Tier 3 structure.

SoR was stuck in a hard place. During the first season, they experienced queues during NA, like everyone rank 6 or higher did, due to pve’rs coming in. Add the frustration of queues with losing ppt to BG and JQ…

Coverage and PPT frustrations are the main reason servers collapse.

Unfortunately the smaller WvW servers are getting even smaller…

At this point the only sizable WvW guild that sticks around in the lower leagues is NNK, everyone else has moved up to fight each other.

FA is currently looking for OCX/SEA/EU.

We are fine in NA, although we are open to small NA guilds and single players looking for a good home.

FA has a large population of college aged players, most of which are home for the break.

I would expect FA to ramp up again after break is over…first or second week of January for most.

Like FA is any better. I moved from TC to SBI, and TC farmed FA every time we fought. Mag, and SOS has replaced you in Gold Tier. TC was starting to fall apart when we left so it doesn’t say much for FA.

Also we farmed Gods, and Hope for quite a while on DBBL. We had a good laugh when you hid in the tower and build siege. Every time you pushed you got destroyed. Only after you had three guilds stacked did you push us back. Keep up the good work guys. If you can’t beat them build siege.

This week was a week of healing wounds in WvW SBI. As an old time PuGger that has seen WM and fought the Titan Alliance, I can say I am extremely proud of my server mates.

A few months ago we were fighting in tier 4 and 5. Then a few guilds come (BAEST and DDLG, ABYSS, DR – forgive me the ones I forget). The reason they come was a good one – some leaving higher tiers, some leaving their servers: to find a place where they can do WvW for the fun of it without the pressure to win regardless of costs or to carry a full server on their shoulders. They wanted a place where they could be themselves and enjoy the thing they liked.

(I do want to thank TE and Star for his part in luring these great players to our server. I disagree with you on a lot of stuff – but SBI WvW is a much funnier place because of that)

There was never a plan to rise to tier 1 or two – in fact, when there were still 2 leagues planned we were placed at the bottom of the first one. Some suggested we should tank to get into the second one – we laughed at them.

A few weeks after we were in the mix for gold league – with Mag and SoS (FA was tanking, as we know it). Kudos to those 2 – that 3 way battle for a poisoned prize was the greatest moment in this League fiasco.

We started Leagues in the worst position possible – on top of the Silver. Nowhere to go but down. We had tons of transfers and our guilds could not get on WvW maps because of the queues. Then there were all kind of people out there. And weeks of stomping mixed with weeks of low coordinated efforts. Our community was under pressure.

Then this week I realized that losing to YB/EB was the best thing that could happen to us.

I was pleased with what I saw. People coming out to fight with no other motivation but the joy of killing enemies. Scouting, havocking, sieging, escorting yaks. Guilds doing their thing on the map and effectively – for several days our NA prime time was rocking against top and motivated opposition. Our WvW guilds were both effective and at the right level of insanity to be here – it was entertaining to follow them.

Most of those that read this were not playing GW2 when the SBI motto came out – so I will take the time to explain it:

Log in – no matter the score or the situation, be there. Don’t give up. Be there for you, be there for your servermates.

Rock out – play the best you can. Do whatever you can – as long as you are enjoying doing it. Bags, kills are irrelevant – being satisfied with your play and your people is what matters.

S…w the points – PPT are irrelevant because they depend on stuff you and your guild cannot control. You can’t be there 24/7 – focus on what you do when you are on. This does not mean you don’t care about victory – just that you can’t carry the weight of a loss on your shoulders.

SBI is a better place to be at the end of the Silver league than it was at the start.

oh please. It doesnt really matter what you believe guy, the people that were there on all sides know it happened. I was there and saw it happen. I tagged garri shortly after it started so that FA wouldnt just keep respawning ontop of us. A shame I did, because the bags were everywhere.The only exaggeration here is that it was more than 10-15 beast. It was probably more like 10 beast, 10 militia since Alchemist was the active tag on the map, and 10 DR against ~40-50 FA, which were mostly guild groups (RET, HOPE, a few others).

In TS, beast asked if anyone recorded the fight and the answer was no, but they were hoping someone from DR mightve. These are the only screens I have of the fight, and they dont really do it justice as they dont show DR (sbi) or the two other blobs of FA that came in and died.

Learn to count I see at best 30vs30.

You guys are going to have mental break downs once leagues are over and you see real blobs.

The fact that you just wrote a book about one fight, goes to prove how unacclimated to real WvW you guys are.

Honestly this matchup has been full of squishy SBI zergs, it makes me PINE for the days of TC and old DB.

lose our only NA prime time EBG guild (RQ) to JQ, SIC leaves for BP, DPS at the time our best EU guild also leaves for BP, RAM breaks up
SOS’s RNG prayers are answered with best possible rating match ups for those 2 weeks
MAG beat us (no excuses)

fast forward to 2 days before league starts:
PvP transfers, CORE transfers, FtF transfers

during leagues
GLOB transfers, DPS comes back, SIC comes back, what’s left of RQ reforms into BOMB, RAM reformed, GODS returns, etc. etc.

There was debate about what would be better for the server but it was decided to go for gold. It didn’t happen and we’re all itching for real competition again. You guys should be happy we helped derail the SBI hype train, looks like YB will be getting the stomp though Best thread NA right now guys let’s keep it going.

We didn’t ask to be here. We are only here because MAG did very well in their matchup with us(due to us losing guilds, who have since came back…as many guilds do with FA), and SoS got a favorable ratings gathering matchup the same week.

To say we some how MAGICALLY forced SoS into a rng matchup is sort of crazy.
