Heres a problem with you’re statements Guild wars 2 is a game its not intended to be exactly like real life and people should separate game mechanics from real life physics.

The bodies in Guild Wars 2 are super-idealized. NOBODY looks like that for real.
- I tried to make a elementalist look exactly like myself and it got quite similar.
But you could make it quite unrealistic as well.
choices is what make players unique.
Looking to good in the game is not cruel and judgemental towards people who are not satisfied with their body in real life. if they feel that way they should seek therapy.

You’re misunderstanding the issue. Making an unrealisticly beautiful character in the game isn’t being cruel and judgemental—of course not. But unrealistic beauty is what people see on a regular basis. If a person grows up seeing ten images of impossible bodies for every two images of actual bodies, chances are they’re going to view the impossible bodies as normal, and the actual bodies—including their own and those of others—as abnormal.

This becomes a problem in real life because people try to obtain impossible bodies. Just look around at society—our obsession with plastic surgery, weight loss, diet, the bodies of celebrities and models, and so on. Men are pressured to body build and have a larger ****, and women are pressured to starve themselves, simply to feel comfortable in their own skin.

All I’m saying is that Guild Wars 2 doesn’t need to be another one in the millions of media outlets that cause society’s problem.

OMG another sane person! I thought we were all gone!

When i read topics like these and i see tons of boys playign and talking about a female character only need to run on kitten mode, i only assume you dont have girlfriends or wife.

This is about making our characters stylish. And not trying to turn them into some sex symbol. I want to collect different types armor to dress my characters in “Cool, sexy, normal armors”.

I never said that this post is exclusive to female armor. I want to see male players running around like Conan too. And more normal body types for men also.

And other peoples girlfriends are none of your concern.

Sexy doesn’t mean naked though. Plenty of clothing can be sexy without it exposing every inch of skin except nipples and kitten. Skin doesn’t equal sexy. I have no idea how our society got that impression at all.

Here is some examples of sexy done right;
http://hautegamer.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/wizard_diablo_drawing.jpg

http://media.mmo-champion.com/images/news/2012/march/fanart-1246-full.jpg

http://img.wonderhowto.com/img/66/34/63451549960720/0/sign-up-play-diablo-3-beta.w654.jpg

All of this? Is a very similar style to what anet already has in game. There is zero reason to add thongs and nipples coverings in this game. It’d only cheapen it. I’m tired of cheap feeling games. I can’t be the only person who finds skin tight jeans/leathers incredibly sexy.

Some examples above are way Anet used to limit tone down sexuality in game.

As for you not liking sexualized clothing on women. This is the most basic insistent for the human race. People are attracted to the opposite sex or sometimes same sex.

Apparently you missed all those centuries of women and men clothing being conservative. Sexualization via clothing isn’t inherent. It’s a learned society behavior. Just like some cultures breasts are merely to feed babies while in others they are dirty. Attraction has zip to do with clothes….

As far as actual clothing is considered there is PLENTY of clothes that show off skin you must be blind to think otherwise.

Perhaps i’m just missing something, but when did monthly achievements become a requirement? /sarcasm

Probably because its some of the only content there is if you want to pve especially if you aren’t all that interested in instances. It also is one of the few ways to earning coins. Most of the forge recipes call for 50 which would be either a crapton of $$ or 50 days of just completing the dailies. Even if you don’t want to get stuff from the forge the coins are a source of steady income which is lacking in this game if you don’t have a lot of time to invest or aren’t grinding speed clears.

I keep saying it I really wish they’d just reward you based on what you do each month towards the monthly. So if you complete 90% of it you get 90% of the rewards. You can then choose to only do the stuff you find fun and leave the rest. I’m tired of all or nothing systems. My time is worth something even if I don’t make first place.

I’m tired of pointing out that GW2 heavy armor is NOT realistic. You can’t swim or dodge or run in real heavy armor. Battle lingerie is far more realistic than your full metal set.

Oh really? History would like to disagree with you there Here’s the Wiki page as it’s easier to cite on here and i’m lazy:

No it isn’t. If you were using chain or heavy armor you weren’t wearing a swimsuit. That’s from a purely historical point of view. The feeling of armor comes from the materials it’s made out of as well. So different metals will be less/more heavy than others. No you can’t swim in a knight suit, but that’s because they weren’t designed to be worn for swimwear. Though you are correct it isn’t realistic. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t add more realistic armor even if it doesn’t function realistically. That’s what this person is asking for.

I think there are more female gamers that like those exposing concepts than you would think. XD But that’s purerly my opinion and my friends view (yesp, girls too).
So yeah, they appeal to males and females (no, not talking about lessy bee yans), But.. there could be more armors that are more cough realistic cough. Yeah.

One lesbian isn’t a bad word…I have no idea why you can’t spell it right. Two women are taught by society to encourage male likes and dislikes because if we don’t we get to feel outcasted or treated like kitten (ironic given what people are doing right now in this thread). Women don’t make choices outside of society just like men don’t. We don’t live in a vacuum. So it doesn’t matter if women like sexy armor or not. That itself isn’t a reason to dog pile someone who doesn’t. Note I’m not saying you are doing so at all. I was making a general statement. Third…really? Concepts? Are we not all adults here? Just call it breasts, butt, and stomach not hard.

(Yes you can turn 3 of them into the quaggan, but if you want all 4 you’ve got an extremely high chance of being stuck with ones you don’t want and missing one you do.)

I can understand how frustrating that can be. In wow I hated the sinister squashling because I had such bad RNG luck with it. It took me 3 halloweens before I actually got it. It sucks, but at least this is something. I’m happy with something.

While I might just be completely wrong and ignorant, doesn’t that infusion slot replace the normal slot in?

If so doesn’t that mean that they are trading something like a sapphire jewel (25 healing, +15 Power +15 toughness) For some agony and + 5 of a useful stat? Sounds to me like an infusion slot would be less useful in anything but 10 fractals

Those bonuses are built into the rings and back piece. So you get both the increased stats, the increased upgrade, and the infusion slot to add yet again another increase. And anet has confirmed they will be adding higher stats via infusions along with armor and weapons over the next year.

Glad I don’t care because the two things I can see are wvw and fractals which are dead to me.

We didn’t get a full month in November either. You basically had 2 weeks to do your frac runs and 200 karka kills. I really wish they’d actually change up the monthly and daily system. To be fair, you had a whole month to do it and you left it to the last minute.

You have no right to complain.

A problem similar to this one is affecting Dailys. There needs to be a common reset time that is not different for each server and is well known, i.e., midnight of the last day of a month, or, for Dailys, at midnight of each day. Less problems, less headache.

There is one common reset time for every server though. 4 pm pacific time (whatever that is in GMT.) All servers reset at this one time.

Are you positive on that? Has it changed recently? Because up until I stopped logging in 2 weeks ago it reset at 7pm CST every day like clockwork. I would finish my dailies mere minutes before reset, as late as 6:55pm CST.

That would be 5pm pacific time.

Daylight Saving. Most states in the US use it, however the majority of the world does not.

The US is not the only country to do DST. Almost all of Europe, Canada, and other northern countries still do it.

Ouch… I am now in need of some very serious dev input.

Based on the comments above, as well as Anthony Ordon’s post (see https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/halloween/Are-the-Halloween-skins-permament/first#post512016), I placed the ghastly grinning shield appearance on a shield with the expectation that I could transmute the appearance to another shield if needed. I have been trying to confirm the feasibility of this, and have been getting negative results. I am able to put the now grinning shield in the “from” box, but the “item transmutation” button is grayed out when I place another shield in the “to” box.

Anthony, if you are listening, please help. Your post, like the posts of others above, suggests that the grinning shield visage should be transmutable to other shields.

Is either item equipped? Transmutation stones cannot be used if the armor is currently being worn. You need to put both items into your bag then drag each one into the window. Once you’ve done that select the “picture” of the grinning shield and then the stats and sigil of the other. Then hit accept. You do not need a transmutation stone for the first use of the halloween skins, but you do need a stone for any other ones. Make sure you are using the right level stone for your armor/weapon as well.

actually i transmuted alot on items i wear-didnt interrupt

They changed it a few weeks again in a hot fix. You shouldn’t be able to now.

Okay so I just played the new zone for maybe 60 minutes or so? I’ve played as level 80 elementalist with a little over 15k health. D/D cantrip build. Also, as a level 31 staff mesmer (scaled health was a little over 16k).

This zone is much harder than orr, but not impossibly so. It does take more effort to do the zone especially if melee. This isn’t bad though. If you are having trouble…I’d say practice, create a more defensive build/armor, or use range. However, it is doable even in berserker armor (that’s most of my gear). I do think that some abilities need to be adjusted. The confusion for one and the worms definitely need to be redone. The one thing this zone did right by me? MORE MOB SPACING. THANK YOU! The one thing that disappointed me? Not much mob variety. I’d love more variety in mobs.

You weren’t around for Halloween were you? See, they did this same thing with BLC and keys. And people were really mad. Players pretty much declared en masse that they were done buying keys.

So…Anet introduces a new chest for an event that doesn’t require keys.

Their solution to people raging over spending money to unlock chests on a gamble was to sell unlocked chests instead.

I think Crystin may have totally missed the point somewhere…but this still amused me and had me laughing out loud for a good few minutes. It just didn’t amuse me enough to make me want to spend money on a slot machine again.

You get 5 a run on the lowest level, you get more the higher you go – i have no idea how many more get per level BUT it’s not always 5 – it could be 5 at level 1, 10 at level 2 and so on, which would greatly reduce the time to get them.

Anyways, it was just a thought: as the item can’t be a standard exotic item as the stats aren’t good enough, and it can’t be an acended item upgrade as we’ve been told they only have infusion slots – so the only thing i can think they can be is a new gem for the current exotics.

Was that in the article? It seemed that we would get 5 per boss from the article. Since each “fractual” has you do 3 bosses (unless it’s a bonus level) then you’d get 15 at the end of one odd level. 20 at the end of a even level. I can’t see doing 3 bosses in a few minutes for each so I’d say it’d take at least some time to clear one level. Still 1k+ would be way too much needed to upgrade an exotic. I mean why bother? I could be using those shards to fund my first ascended item. They’d need to lower the amount to 30ish shards for me to even consider it worth it for time invested.

However, I do like the idea. I’m guessing though that they are used in creating something in the forge. What? I’m not sure, but ascended items is possible. Moreso since they hinted at these items not being bound to the instance.

ETA: After reading the second article (only read the first) they seem to be jewelry that’s exotic? Perhaps a back? Either way for those stats? Definitely not worth it.

I wonder if that “gift of ascension” will be used to make new legendary items, or if it will be used to upgrade existing exotic items, or if it will make entirely new ascended items.

I actully recon it will be the Prototype Fractal Capacitors that will be used to upgrade current exotic items, if you look at the bottom set of stats on them (the bottom 3 rows) they look like slightly increased current gem item stats, and the top 3 rows of stats look like a slight increases that would be added to current exotic item stats.

So slotting one of these into an exotic ring would give it the same stats as an ascended ring.

Why would they make those the most expensive then? I mean 1k+ when you only get 5 a run? Just to upgrade an exotic? You could have made your first ascended item by then. It’d be pointless. So I really doubt those are to upgrade exotics. If they wanted to do that then they’d need to lower the amount by a lot.

Um, you are the one that called it a family dear. I didn’t. I was only using your position against you.

In other words, you were just trying to cause trouble. Because I really shouldn’t have to waste time clarifying to you the difference between the usage of the word family when talking about RL relatives versus using the term to describe a guild in a video game. You can correctly use the term family in either case, but you’d be pretty silly to try and draw comparisons between the two (as you have done, apparently just to strike up an argument).

Good luck with that, but you’re going to have to spend that free time of yours finding someone else to pick a fight with today. :P

I didn’t know debating was causing trouble? If you didn’t want to compare your guild to a family then why did you? Also are you actually going to answer my previous question?

Last posts are really focusing too much on the moral aspect of belonging to a guild, and extreme behaviours that we can come across in-game, rather than the realistic, practical, aspect of leading a guild, organizing events, and making everyone participate in something shared, something common.

Maybe there are guild leaders with god complex who just like to rule over people. Maybe there are members that are no more than freeloaders who are just here to take advantage of what other people put time and effort to create.

But seriously : stop with the clichés. Try to stay on topic, which is how multi guild system may prevent players from creating a strong, united group, and what can we do, with in-game but also external tools, to encourage the feeling that you belong in the guild you are with (and I’ve read pretty awesome suggestion on this thread, so it would be nice to pursue efforts in this way).

If that’s the topic of this post then even the OP isn’t on topic. I think you may have missed this part "In any case I’d love to hear what everyone on the forums thinks of the multi-guild system and whether or not you think it’s harmful to guild longevity or functionality. " His entire post was about how he feels that having multi-guilds as an option is hurting his guild. There are those who believe it is harmful and those that don’t. We are both encouraged to give our opinion.

I agree with this.

However, that said, I agree with the OP that, in terms of small guilds, that it isn’t working out well. Even with strict and stringent recruitment policies, very few small guilds can grow decently, and unles syou adopt a GOTTA CATCH EM ALL practice, small guilds are still hurt by the multi-guild system, because it doesn’t foster any sense of loyalty. At least in games with ONE guild (per character) system, yoiu were in that guild, could see if you liked it, and it didn’t suit both parties, you left.

ANd if it did suit you, you put forth effort and care in building it toward the direction the ‘guild’ deemed suitable.

GW2 just doesn’t foster that, it caters, as someone said, to the guild hoppers, and ego-centric troublemakers who don’t give a flying fig.

Why does a guild NEED tons of members? I have a small close knit guild. The only way into the guild is to know someone and a good portion of us know each other IRL. We don’t force representing. During prime time I think we end up with about 8-10 out of 15 on our list. Who is to say our guild isn’t doing well? We don’t need growth or want it. Why do you need 50 members? Why do you even need more than 10-20 online at a given time? What exactly do you want your members to do? Chat more? Play together more? Represent more? Why not focus on fixing those inside of your guild first? If you want them to chat more…then guild leaders and officers NEED to be chatting all the time. People often don’t feel comfortable if there isn’t a good conversation going on already. So that means you gotta get good officers and leaders willing to put in the time to yes create conversations. If you want people to play together then how about officers start organizing groups? Call out people directly that are online and ask them if they want to join you for X. Represent? well people already are requiring players to represent them 100% of the time or the majority of the time. So not much more you can do there. Guilds aren’t going to become awesome if you don’t already have a good foundation. If anything the biggest problem with the guild system is that its easy as crap to create one. If it costed more to create people would think twice before starting one and they’d have a solid foundation before bothering.

And in other mmos you could easily split your time among 2 guilds. You just had to have an alt. What is the difference? No one has been able to explain this to me yet. I was in 2 guilds in wow for 5 years overlapping. Not one cared that I was in another guild. I kept my commitments in each one. Why do gamers suddenly care now?

I just can’t ignore the harm it has done to the guild I’m in, which has always been on the small side, but in other games we always stuck together. Now, if there aren’t enough members logged in at the same time everyone seems to toggle over to different guilds, which only makes the problem worse as other members log in and find the majority of their online guildmates representing elsewhere.

What is the problem exactly, that guilds don’t have the ability to force players to stay and basically be an employee during times they aren’t enjoying themselves? If someone is representing elsewhere its because they are having fun elsewhere and you’re going to begrudge that over what that player isn’t doing for you?

I think its beautiful that this system has reduced mmo monarchs or hierarchies to being mmo politicians and that this change is long overdue.

Because it’s supposed to be a guild or a family that you stick with through good and tough times and help improve, not a club or bar you may or may not choose to visit depending on how happening things are on a given night. If you want the latter, ask for a tool creating a temporary throw-away chat channel, since that appears to be all you’re looking for.

I’m married. I have 2 sets of family that are “blood related” and one family that I have by choice. So yeah count them I HAVE 3 families! My kids have 3 sets of grandparents. I love them ALL the same. You can have more than one “family” or “friends” and still be just as loyal to them. I really don’t get this kind of logic at all.

I’m sorry, but that’s just a ridiculous analogy. First of all, most people (I hope) don’t spend all day logged into GW2 spreading the love between the multiple guilds they’re representing.

I see members that represent my guild maybe an hour a week, if that. If you’re going to make analogies like this, maybe you should try that out in real life and see how far that gets you with your family? I don’t recommend it, though. I’m pretty sure they’ll start complaining after a while too.

Um, you are the one that called it a family dear. I didn’t. I was only using your position against you. I was merely saying in IRL I sure don’t limit myself to one family. So why must I for a video game? Where is your stats showing that people don’t do that? I do. I do it all the time. Because you don’t do it doesn’t mean others don’t. Nor can you show me that even the majority only represent for an hour a week since I doubt you are following people for an entire week.

Please I don’t even call my own mother every day of the week and yet she isn’t here kittening about how I shouldn’t have other friends or family. Last week? My husband was away on a business trip…I talked to him only once a night for an hour. Funny enough it works out in real life.

I disagree with this, it’s already more difficult to determine the class of an enemy than it should be. Mesmer and Ele both wear light armor, but the strategies to win against them are drastically different. It would be significantly worse to be fighting a warrior that looks like a necro, or a thief that looks like a guardian.

Nothing would change in spvp. You’d still be limited to your type of armor and you can’t transmute there anyways. WvWvW is the only thing that would be effected and anet has stated MANY times that it’s unfair pvp. They aren’t going to balance it. So why does it matter if you can’t tell if it’s a mesmer or not at first glance? The whole idea of WvWvW is zerging anyways. One player doesn’t matter.

It’s a small application in which I ask a few basic questions and they must agree to our code of conduct. But if they can’t be bothered with filling out our application then I probably don’t want them in the guild anyway.

I feel so strongly about the text I quoted. You’d be surprised (or maybe you won’t be.) at the response I get sometimes when I tell people they need to go to a website and fill out a Q/A / Application and read rules before they join.

What? I have to go to a WEBSITE to join your guild? I have to read? I have to apply? Screw that, too much work I’m not looking for a job. <—responses I get.

Oh I’m not surprised at all. I’ve received lot’s of responses like that, but for me the trade off is worth it. The people who have filled out applications have been great and I’ve met a lot of good folks.

Agreed. Delayed gratification > instant. I’d much rather have someone go through the proper protocals and actually show the initial effort than someone who won’t bother taking 5 minutes out of his life to do so.

Then why are you kittening about the multi-guild system? You didn’t want the members anyways since they aren’t representing your guild 100% and/or don’t want to put in the effort for an application…so why are you trying to force everyone else to adhere to the way your guild runs? It seems like it makes your job really easy if they don’t want to do the application nor be in only one guild you can boot them/not invite. I’m not seeing the problem here. You can be happy knowing your members want to be in your guild and the rest of us can be in any guild we like. So what’s the problem?

I dissagree with you here Tzash. I feel that the social problems are compounded by the very design of the multi guild system as it stands. It at thevery least needs tweaking in some way. check my post back along and u will c my ideas for it.

I’ve read your post and I’m still not seeing how it is a mechanics problem. If you have a guild requirement that members represent your guild and then some don’t want to then surely that indicates that they weren’t suitable for your guild in the first place.

It’s simple. They want to force everyone to be like them. Apparently already requiring memebers to represent isn’t enough for them. They don’t seem to understand that you can’t force the retaining of members. Instead of fixing the actual problem they’ll piss and moan about something irrelevant.

yeah it does seem like there is a huge lack of scaling. I died 2-3 times trying to complete one event, but I just couldnt by myself. I gave up.
