WW isn’t much of a DPS boost unless you’re hitting 4 targets or more, because you can’t cleave more than 3 targets at once with autoattack. So you’re right in not using it except in certain circumstances. Plus autoattack keeps your might stacks going.

Secondly, damage multipliers are all summed up and multiplied out together at the end of the damage calculation (before crits). In other words, if you have 10% more damage, you’re doing 1100 instead of 1000. Gain another 10%, your multiplier becomes 20%, and now you do 1200. Where you may be getting confused is that by adding trait points to your build in order to actually get those multipliers, you’re also adding stat points, which can make it look like it’s cumulative when it isn’t. In other words just to get Fiery Wrath you’re also adding 100 power, so compared to a build without it it’s going to look like a much larger boost than 10%.

Also, yeah, 5k WW is pretty sad. Keep in mind that the 36k 100b Warrior is stacking Vuln and Might like crazy in order to accomplish that. I regularly get 16k+ WWs in groups with warriors because of all the Vuln and Might flying around. Also, 100b is just ridiculous, but whatever.

If you’re looking for maximum damage, 10/25/x/x/x with all zerk gear is a good place to start.

You shouldn’t be dying in dungeons even with all zerker. Do you have Vigorous Precision? If you don’t, consider picking it up, even if it’s just by dropping 5 points in Honor to get it. Then learn to dodge, knockback, blind, and Aegis when you need it. Guardians have a lot of active CC and blocks – you really shouldn’t be taking hits, except for small ones from trash.

thanks a lot i really appreciate it so what your telling me is to go crit and power mostly?

Power, precision, and critical damage all together. They all interact with each other. If you don’t have high power, your critical damage doesn’t have much to multiply. If you don’t have high precision, you won’t crit to begin with. If you don’t have high critical damage, even if you do crit and have high power, your multiplier won’t be any good.

I can’t really give you “goal” stats because there’s still lots of options out there for you and your stats will naturally vary with different trait specs. Plus, everyone’s gonna give you a different answer for that. Just figure out what works for you and your spec. But generally speaking if you have over 50% crit and 50% critical damage with 2k power or higher you’re at least on the right track for damage, assuming you have some multipliers in your traits.

That’s really ghetto math. Just use gw2buildcraft to compare the effective power between builds. 12% crit damage is a lot more than 40 effective power. Damage multipliers aren’t rocket science. If you have a 20% multiplier from traits, and you ordinarily do 10k damage from a Whirling Wrath, now you do 12k.

Ignore Attack, it’s not a meaningful stat. Power is what’s important.

Secondly, gw2buildcraft.com is your friend.

As for actual builds, there’s a lot to choose from. If all you care about is damage, 10/30/30/0/0 Right Hand Strength/Monk’s Focus works well. Use with Berserker/Valkyrie gear. If you want more group utility while still having very high damage, 10/30/0/30/0 Right Hand Strength/Pure of Voice works well also. You’d take Empowering Might and Superior Aria in Honor. You’d use shouts with that instead of meditations. You can also mix it up and do 10/30/10/20/0 Right Hand Strength, and keep Empowering Might and Purity in Valor for conditions along with that 10% crit damage boost.

Ultimately though you’re going to want to play around and find a build that suits you through trial and error. These are just guides. That said, one thing is really important – if you’re building for damage, you need damage multipliers. They’re massively weighty in terms of effective power gained. 10/25/x/x/x is really standard in damage builds because of Fiery Wrath and Radiant Power, which give you a combined 20% damage bonus. That’s really big. In the Master trait tier of Zeal you can pick up Greatsword Power for another 5% damage, or Powerful Blades in Radiance for 5% Sword damage. What’s more, Elusive Power (Honor 25 minor trait) gives you another 10% as long as you’re not full on endurance. Considering how much you need to dodge as full zerk, that’s all the time.

Another thing – Carrying Signet of Judgement is always an option for shoring up poor defenses. It’s worth roughly 300 armor. That lets you cheat a bit and more fully spec into damage everywhere else, along with your gear.

Edit: Oh, also – if you have Pure of Voice/Soldiers runes, the condition cleaning happens BEFORE the conditions are absorbed. So you can actually mitigate a lot of the suicidal tendencies of that skill by having one or the other of them, or almost entirely rid yourself of it if you have both.

Because an extra 10% damage is a huge multiplier. It’s also easily accessible as it only requires 10 points, and you get 100 more power thanks to it as well. You can keep Burning up almost constantly by yourself, more so in a group. It would take a lot of stat points to accomplish that same increase.

I’m assuming by normal you mean solo. I’m not at my computer right now but off the top of my head I hit for about 6 to 8k depending on how many crits/projectile hits I get. In a party with lots of vuln and might, my record is 16k. I also hit for about 2k/2k/1.8×3k with sword auto attack chain in that same party. That’s 10/30/0/30/0 RHS PoV.

The damage of any given build is going to hinge on two things – how much crit damage gear you have and how many damage multipliers you have through traits. Any build that claims to do damage that is lacking Fiery Wrath at a minimum is kidding themselves. If you really want to kill stuff you need Fiery Wrath and Radiant Power. If you are seriously committed to DPS you’ll also pick up either Greatsword Power or Powerful Blades.

Gear wise, full Berserker works but you can also use Valkyrie armor or trinkets to add to your HP pool and ward off conditions. Valkyrie has the same high power and crit damage stats of Berseker, minus precision. Precision is going to be easier to come by than health through runes, ruby orbs, sigils, and food.

Not that I’d use any guardian signet atm, but this would be a better state for that signet.

Judgement is a great armor replacement for zerks.

Even the tool tip doesn’t display the right information. I can’t really tell how judgement even works. It says 10% all the time regardless of the recent signet buffs and the signet trait. For that reason, I just don’t bother with it. Also, guardian signets are terrible atm given the alternatives.

Only passive stat boosts were doubled. Things like Thief signet run speed bonus, Mesmer boon duration bonus, Guardian damage reduction bonus were unaffected. Perfect Inscriptions increases signet passive bonuses by 20%, which raises the damage reduction to 12%.
To give you an idea, 10% is worth roughly 300 armor. Not bad. While it’s true you don’t need it if you don’t be hit in the first place, it’s great for fighting trash and in massive AoE bombs in zerg fights in WvW.

If your goal is to do damage, then you need 10/25/x/x/x. Having both Fiery Wrath and Radiant Power gives you 20% more damage against burning foes, which is phenomenal. At that point you have quite a lot of leeway in terms of the rest of your spec, you can do basically whatever you want. Going a full 30 Radiance for Right Handed Strength is good, but so are two handed focused specs.

Sword is a great weapon, but Zealot’s Defense is flawed. Sword DPS is really high with RHS against single targets or tightly clumped groups, and the huge number of crits helps with Empowering Might and other crit-based perks. Sword/Greatsword is a good melee combo for the blinds, mobility, and single target + AOE damage. You can use whatever offhand you like with the Sword, though I don’t recommend Torch, because it’s pretty bad.

Replace the GS with a hammer if you’re running with a group that has fire and water combo fields in spades, for massive amounts of might and bonus AOE healing.

Can I play a Holy Mage?

in Guardian

Posted by: foofad.5162

foofad.5162

So on a lark I just spent a few hours in WvW with staff and mace/focus, with PvT armor, Berserker trinkets, might duration runes (2 Fire/2 Hoelbrak/2 Strength), and 10/30/10/20/0 as my build. I wasn’t using food because I forgot to. For utilities, I had Shelter, Signet of Judgement, Sword of Justice and I alternated between Retreat! and Hammer of Wisdom.

Trait setup was:

Spirit Weapon Mastery
Blind Exposure, A Fire Inside, Right Hand Strength
Purity
Writ of Exaltation, Empowering Might

And it was okay. Not great, just okay. The paradox was that because Staff is a support weapon, it behooves you to work with a group. Especially since with 60% Might duration you’re looking at 16 seconds of might per Empower. However, group fights are bad for your spirit weapons because they get caught in the AoE. So it’s a little odd. Also, the lack of any real meaningful damage from weapons sucked, so I think Mace was a bad choice despite my thinking that it would be good for keeping the spirit weapons alive a little longer. I’ll probably switch to sword, and then switch Writ of Exaltation to something else. Having Sword would improve mobility dramatically and it has the added bonus of great autoattack damage. I haven’t tried Scepter out, but I suspect it is just as good a choice as sword. I didn’t get any good 1v1s in but I suspect having a sword instead of mace would improve it, though I’m not sure.

If you want to be more ranged and less melee (I prefer melee) then you can swap out Signet of Judgement for Wall of Reflection – that’s also a better siege and group play option.

So there you have it. It works fine. I get a lot more kills doing full berserker sword/shield and greatsword, but this is certainly different and entertaining.

The build with berserker trinkets is going to do 25% more damage than the soldier one. The reason being, take a look at the effective power difference between the two. That’s the important thing to think about. You’re essentially trading 10k effective health for 25% more damage. 25% more damage is a lot.

Full berserker will net you nearly twice the damage.

Spirit Weapons have gotten two health buffs lately, so they’re a bit better than they used to be! Don’t totally discount them. If you pick up the one that gives them a burn, the sword can be a pretty good nuke (ish) spell. You just have to contend with the somewhat spotty AI.

Battlemages are totally doable. Spirit weapons and consecrations make for great magey skills. If you want to go the healer route you can, but I don’t recommend it. Rather, you can do pretty serious damage with scepters so you might as well build for that.

But sigils don’t modify individual weapons. They modify your total stats. Are you saying that the inability to equip 2 sigils is offset by allowing 2h weps to deal more damage than 1h weps?
If so, that makes sense.

Correct. Compared to two one-handed weapons, two handed weapons do 10% more base damage. So if you also allowed them to use two sigils, not only would they do 10% more damage, they’d also get the only advantage (builds not withstanding) using two one-handed weapons offers.

Is this true (has someone calculated DPS numbers?) .. and if true, with a one-handed weapon, your offhand provides some DPS as well.. for example the guardian’s torch seems to have pretty good DPS.

In any case, some weapon sets having 2 sigil slots and some having 1 means it’s harder to balance… with Anet having always struggled with balance (hence the drastic decline in skill choice between GW1 and GW2), it seems they’ve just made their lives more difficult.

There’s nothing to calculate. Look at an 80 exotic two handed weapon’s damage range, and then look at an 80 exotic one handed weapon’s damage range. The two hander has a higher average damage. Specifically, 1048 and 952 respectively. Two handed weapons do exactly 10% more damage (base) than one handed weapons.

Secondly, off hand weapons do not contribute to your overall damage. The damage listed for an off-hand only applies to that weapon’s skills. In other words, focii and shields and torches do less damage with their skills comparatively speaking than standard one handed weapons. Obviously this doesn’t apply to classes that can off-hand one handed weapons.

So my thief just downed a ranger.

After almost downing it, the rangers pet interrupts me, then starts chasing me around as I try and kill it. Then downs me with a 6k hit.

Then it proceeds to rez the downed ranger, then they both destroy me.

Fun fun fun!

What kind of thief doesn’t use shadow refuge before stomp?

Edit: and follow up with dance.

Who wastes a utility to just stomp someone?

You’re joking, right? Do you PvP?

Braham's Shield Aegis off center

Hey y’all, on my max height female Norn guardian the Aegis graphic not only clips through the wolf’s head, but is also not centered on the shield. It’s aligned with the center point of the Aegis graphic on the right side of the central celtic knot pattern on the shield. Very distracting.

P.s., can we please have an option to disable the Aegis effect when not in combat? Pretty please?

Everything he listed is something found on the F1-4 bar. Virtues are also found there. Boons aren’t a class mechanic. Everyone can give boons in one form or another. I don’t know why I have to explain this.

The chimes you can hear in the skill’s sound effect play the Guild Wars theme, in reverse. Not even joking, this isn’t some kind of satanic message in Stairway to Heaven troll. Seems like an easter egg of sorts.

Your example doesn’t hold, since you listed ACTUAL class mechanics, and Guardian’s ACTUAL class mechanic is Virtues.
