1) I think the mastery system is fine, sure it could be improved though. And by that I don’ mean MORE (crappy) MASTERIES. But better masteries and more useful ones.

2) I can’t really talk about WvW because i’m not a WvW player myself but I assume people want to play the new content. I wouldn’t blame it on the new maps though. I feel like it will get better over time once people get used to them and got tired of other HoT content.

3) I think the raid is fine, nice & challenging. There should be an LFG tab though, sure maybe it wasn’t designed to be pugged, but people will do it anyway. So better give it to them.

4) Yeah the only thing I really agree with. Dungeons were quick, easy & fun. It’s sad that people who like doing dungeons are completely screwed now.

I didn’t really do them until i needed one for a certain collection, just to realize that they’re actually quite fun.

That being said, if you’re forced to get gold on all of them to max your masteries that’ a bit too much.

I think silver for all sounds about right.

How is Mesmer's DPS?

in Mesmer

Posted by: glenndevis.8327

glenndevis.8327

Base mesmer damage is meh… However due to the changes they made to minions (including our clones & phantasms) our phantasms survive a lot better, indirectly increasing our dps.

Other than that, the chronomancer spec also increases mesmers damage as we can now shatter without losing our phantasms. Wells help as well.

So right now mesmer damage is better than it used to be, its still not top damage but its not bad at all.

But don’t worry, every team wants a chronomancer. We aren’t taken for our damage but for how we can enhance the group’s damage and in some cases also stealth, reflects, portal.

Tons of Alacrity & Quickness (dat double Time Warp, well spam) really helps party damage a LOT.

Oh right. I forgot to mention: boon stripping is also something we can do. Very useful in the raid.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: glenndevis.8327

glenndevis.8327

8/10 I’m having fun, Maps are amazing (Tangled Depths is a bit too complicated & meta hard but oh well.), Elite specs are fun, revenant is fun, metas are fun, raids are fun & challenging.

There are a lot of flaws but they’re not really taking away the fun imo. Story feels rushed and I hoped for a bit more actual content instead of forcing us to replay the same content 100 times to get certain rewards. (This is also something that bothers me about fractals… yay 50 extra lvls of the same old fractals…) I still find dungeons more fun but oh well.

I don’t mind the mastery gating too much. Gives me an intencive to play certain content. If only there would be more content. What annoys me are timegates.

I feel like its only grindy if you try to rush for certain rewards. People seem to want their rewards ASAP and if they can’t get them within a week they cry.

I’m actually enjoying the new maps & events and i’ve been doing them whenever I feel like it.

That being said, content wise there isn’t too much. It’s more like the rewards we get from doing them makes us do the bit of new content over and over again.

Ofc its going to get boring & grindy if you do the same map/event multiple times a day to get your reward ASAP. But if you don’t feel like doing any of the events (because you’ve been farming them too much so they got boring) then just don’t. And continue when you feel like it.

And an open world category split up between HoT & Tyria subgroups.

I guess we don’t know anything else about it other than this?

I didn’t say “all” rewards either and I didn’t mean that the gold rewards would be shifted, i meant rewards in general, including new rewards.

And I don’t mind that rng rewards aren’t tradable.

My problem the way the encription boxes work, it’s pretty much gambling for your rewards.

Also, I love the new legendary backpiece. But that’s the only reason why I’m doing fractals. And I believe it’s going to be the same for most people.
What when that’s finished? 0 Reason to do fractals then. I’ll prob go back to dungeons… If i can find a party for them at least.

Still wondering if there is still a chance to get ascended chests or if they completely removed them from fractals?

I thought Anet was going to shift some of the dungeon rewards to fractals but I used to get more rewards before HoT than I do now.

Those encription boxes are only useful to sell on the TP since you usually spend more money on opening then than what you’re getting from them.

And has anyone gotten any ascended chests in fractals since HoT? I haven’ had any since then, i’m just wondering if hey removed ascended chests from fractal rewards or just made them harder to get.

Yeah let’s wait another 3 years… great perspective~

All i’m saying is that if you like Thief for their playstyle then not being really strong shouldn’t be much of an issue for you. Try to make the best out of it and have fun.

But if you don’t like thief anymore you’re probably one of those people who just play(ed) thief because they were really strong. Then go ahead and play something else. Don’t have to wait.

There’s nothing wrong with either.

And no i’m not tring to justify the countless nerfs that brought thief to the state they are in right now.

Just play what you enjoy, whether it’s the OP class or the class that has the most enjoyable playstyle.

If i played class because it was strong i would have rerolled ele 1.5 years ago. Play for fun doesn’t work so well because there is no soloq in this game anymore so you WILL need team if you want to have some fun in pvp (going solo vs premades all day is NOT fun). If thief is bad however no team will want them. Also leagues…. -_-

As far as pve goes, it is same issue. I want to see new content but i won’t be able to if thief is not desired. Frankly the bad class design is denying me to experience game content. Simple as it is. It is like hey if you roll necro you are never allowed to enter zone XY.

If you call being rejected in every aspect of this game fun, then i have to question your understanding of fun.

I don’t PvP often but I can agree with you on this part. If you want to play seriously and have the most optimal team comp then yes. You’re not going to play thief 90% of the time.

Everything else should be accessible & playable as a thief though. I’ve had no problems at all in the new content in HoT.

And i’m quite sure raids will be able to be completed with a thief too. Sure there will always be elitists who don’ want a thief and yes I also get the feeling thief isn’t going to be the best class for raids.
But i’m sure if you find a nice guild/group they’ll let you play whatever you know how to play, even if its a thief. And you’ll be able to complete the raid without any problems.

And thief isn’t the most desirable class in the game but it’s definately not rejected.
Like I said before, if you enjoy the tief and their playstyle, then you will keep playing it and enjoy it even after nerfs.

I’ve played mesmer when they were in the state thief is in right now, still loved it and enjoyed the kitten out of mesmer. Would it be more fun if mesmer would have been stronger back then? Sure… But I still enjoyed mesmer more than any other class.

All i’m trying to say, play what you enjoy. Whether its the OP class or a certain class you like.

If OP loves playing thief, knows/learns how to play thief and doesn’t mind not being the most desirable class then that’s great for him.

That being said, Thief does need buffs because right now they have nothing special going for them. (both damage and utility/support wise.)

Even though i do feel like once people got the rewards they want from HoT content, there won’t be anything else to do at all.

Dungeon rewards nerfed, Fractal rewards feel worse too and the ways to make money seem to be very limited now.

Yup. My guild unlocked the arena yesterday and first thing I noticed: WTF? Why am I in PvE gear?

Not sure if this is intended because if it is, it’s a major flaw.

I 1shot people with a low health pool (11-12k hp) with vault. I don’t think this is right in a PvP setting.

And to be fair, I think anyone can pretty much 1shot everyone like that.

I agree 100%

The most annoying one is hat people don’t seem to get rewards sometimes.

Can’t talk about rushes because we haven’t had any since HoT but yeah from what i’ve seen it seems o be the case with puzzles & treks.

I like treks in a way but right now they’re just a pain to do because its such a chore trying to get everyone in the guild rewarded for it.

One thing i really dislike is the randomness of the missions the way they are right now.
I liked doing 1 of every type of mission (besides trek, but honestly, i wouldn’t mind adding 1 trek to the missions because I think they’re kinda fun… if it wasn’t for the reward issue.)

First week we didn’t get any PvE missions. 2nd week we got a trek, 2 challenges and a bounty. Now we had a bounty, a puzzle and 2 treks. Haven’t had any rush since HoT.

If only we could do at least 1 of every mission…

Play what you enjoy. If you enjoy thief despite it being “weak” compared to other classes then keep playing it.

This is a MMO. Balance patches happen. Sure there will be nerfs but there will, at some point, be buffs as well.

I’ve been a mesmer main since release (thief is my most played alt.) and mesmers used to get nerfs all the time in the past. Pointless nerfs since mesmers weren’t even strong to begin with. Look at them now? They’re prob one of the strongest classes in the game right now.

Same will probably happen with Thief at some point. At release thief was one of the strongest classes in my opinion. They got nerfed… a lot… a bit too much… but don’t be a bandwagoner and jump to the next new OP thing. Play what you enjoy and at some point Thief will get buffs again.

Help wit HoT mobs

in Thief

Posted by: glenndevis.8327

glenndevis.8327

I’m using Staff & P/P I’m usually fine in melee vs most things that aren’t champs. against champs i have to ranged sometimes even if I have help.

Dodge, 5, auto attack or try to use weakening charge if u think u canget all 3 hits in, when you see them trying to attack, dodge appropriately (try to hit them with bound if possible) staff #5 then back to auto attack/#2.

When I get caught by a knockdown or stun or whatever i use Bandit’s Defense. When i need space i just swap to P/P for a bit spam unloads heal back up and go back in.

I also realize that ranged is a lot easier to play with in HoT maps. If you wanna go melee with a squishy class (and as far as I know thief is the squishiest melee class so its extra important as a Thief) you will really have to learn the mob’s attacks and dodge them well.
But that’s part of why I’m starting to love Daredevil in HoT.

So how to make money now?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: glenndevis.8327

glenndevis.8327

Yeah I’ve been doing that now and then and its quite enjoyable. I still feel like the amount of money you make isn’t that great if you consider the amount the whole event takes (taking the pre event into account.)

And I just miss being able to group up with a few guildies/friends and do some fast/laid back dungeon runs.

I hoped Fractals would become what dungeons used to be before HoT. But I feel like people are only doing them for the collections. That and the rewards are still worse than dungeons are right now after HoT.

I’m not sure myself but i’m wondering the same. We didn’t get a Rush or a Puzzle on missions (sad, i liked doing every mission once. This week again, no rush… & 2 treks… sads)

For the Trek I suppose only those who interact with the location get rewarded. Even after interacting with it once the interact spot stays for a short while and i believe that everyone who interacts with it during that time gets rewarded. Either way, its kind of annoying

So how to make money now?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

glenndevis.8327

With dungeons nerfed, how do people make money now?

I seem to spend a lot more money lately but can’t find anything (enjoyable) that gives decent money now.

Dungeons were the only enjoyable way of making money but that got nerfed to hell and it gets hard to find parties sometimes.

I hoped fractals would get increased rewards but it feels like the fractal rewards are worse than they used to be.

Fist Flurry & Impact strike are both good at breaking bars. And if that’s not enough I always got my P/P #4 to spam some dazes.

so what does everyone think of scrapper?

in Engineer

Posted by: glenndevis.8327

glenndevis.8327

I love scrapper.

Hammer is great.

Traits are well done. I just wish there weren’t like… 3 traits based on ressing people.

Gyros… Some are more or less useful in a way but they still need work.

-Sneak: Pretty good now. Could still use some better tracking so it follows a bit closer.

-Bulwark: Same as Sneak Gyro. Good but needs better tracking still. This one is one of the best out of them all at the moment.

-Medic: needs to follow better and have a bigger aoe range. Other than that this one is pretty good.

-Purge: haven’t tested this one too much really. Haven’t done anything that requires a lot of cleansing so far. The cleansing itself is alright but condi cleansing in general is something people want on demand. Not somethign they want to have on contantly to have it cleanse at certain intervals.
Also no indication of how big the purge range is.

-Shredder: pretty useless because how kittenty Whirl Finishers are. Would be really good if it followed the scrapper, making the scrapper a walking whirl finisher.
Also Whirl Finishers should become more accurate and some need a more useful effect.

-Blast: SLOW. The dart part just makes it really slow. I’d love it if the dart would just get removed and that we could just use the gyro whenever, even when CCed, just like all of the other Gyros.
That way we could use it tas some kind of counter pressure. Enginer already has a lack of stunbreaks. This wouldn’t be a real stunbreak but it could force the enemy away for a second to give us some breathing room.

gyros can't keep up, if they keep up ö.ö

in Engineer

Posted by: glenndevis.8327

glenndevis.8327

I think the Sneak Gyro & Bulwark Gyro are in a good spot right now. They can both keep up up decently (unless you make a lot of fast turns so it could still use a bit of improvement.) and they’re both useful in certain situations.

The other Gyros still need work in my opinion. But that’s mostly because their ranges aren’t as big as the other 2.

Medic Gyro: Should follow closer or have the same aoe size as the Sneak & Bulwark one.

Blast Gyro: Just way too slow. First the dart… then the Gyro starts flying & then it hits. I’d say remove the dart part. Make it like the other Gyro’s so players can at least use it to CC away the enemy while being pressured, CCed.

Shredder Gyro: Haven’t found any use for this one. Mostly because Whirl Finishers aren’t that useful. I think a nice change would be to make the Shredder Gyro follow the Scrapper as well shredding the Scrapper dealing tons of damage to yourself… I mean making the Scrapper into a walking Whirl Finisher. (Whirl Finishers are still underwhelming though but that’s another topic.)

Purge Gyro: Honestly I haven’t played around with this one yet so I can’t say much about it. I don’t see a range indicator on it so hard to judge if it stays in range for the condi cleansing. (Haven’t tested it out properly.)

Edit: Right I totally forgot the Function Gyro because its more or less useless in 90% of the situations its meant to be useful in.

Make it easier to use the function Gyro on allies. By the time I manage to target someone, my ally is already dead.
Also give it some kind of passive effec that interacts with what the actual scrapper is doing, improving the Scrappers mechanics.
Like maybe have shock the enemy for some extra damage whenever you daze or stun an enemy or something (also doing the extra damage when you contribute in breaking breakbars.) Just an example…

how is Chronomancer in PVE?

in Mesmer

Posted by: glenndevis.8327

glenndevis.8327

I’m just in love with Chronomancer. I think Chrono will see use in any PvE aspect in the game.
-Dungeons: double Time Warp, Alacrity, reflects, portal,… A mesmer just turns bad dps into great dps and turns great dps into godly dps.

-Open world: overal just a better base mesmer, the Time Marches On trait makes you quite fast. You got decent survivability in the jungle even with squishy stats.

-Raids: not sure yet but i’m quite sure Chrono will have a spot in Raids just because of (double) Time warp, Alacrity,…

Oh and Chrono has amazing breakbar breaking abilities: Shield #5, GS #5, Diversion and even effects like slow and cripple help lowering the break bar over time (Well of Calamity, Action) Gravity Well is Godly as well. I’m probably missing a lot more.

As someone who played Mesmer since release and got kind of bored it over the years, i’m very much entertained with Chronomancer.

As base mesmer i sometimes felt useless in places where portal wasn’t really useful & reflects weren’t necessary. TW and thats it. With Chrono there is a lot more you can do.

Its only a grind when you want to rush things. To be fair, tthe little grind in HoT is NOTHING compared to REAL grind. Hell, i think a lot of people even grinded dungeons before to get gold. But i didnt hear anyone complaining back then.

No solo content? Well true… but maybe its coz its designed not to be soloable? So far most of the things have been soloable for me or just doable with some randoms nearby helping out.

Too hard? Just people who have been pampered with easy kitten content in the past finally need to learn to play with diffirent tactics & gear stats.

Only thing i somewhat agree with is that elite specs take a bit too many Hero points. By the time you unlock your full spec you’ve almost rushed through most of the maps.
I feel like 300 points would have been better.

Gyros: Still too slow, sneak one is “ok” coz its aoe range is big but the other ones still don’t follow well enough.

Shredder should follow the engi so the engi becomes a moving whirl finisher.

Not every single utility will be useful in any gamemode. That’s close to impossible in this game. And even trying to balance them out would be a LOT of work.

I don’t mind if certain utilities are useless in certain situations… as long as every single utility has some use in at least 1 gamemode.

Let’s look at Slick Shoes. It’s more or less useless in PvE but in PvP (especially with Scrapper) it can be really useful. And i’m fine with that.

But true, there are way too many utilities that are barely ever used.

I’ve tried it.
It doesn’t seem to have any special skill effects for chrono as far as i’ve noticed, but it does look great on a chronomancer.

Yeah I agree. Even though I can imagine it’s easier said than done.

They’d have to give the mob/boss a proper stealth skill/buff. Then have them do nothing while stealthed so they don’t immediatly reveal themselves etc,…
