Still disappointed that things do not really change in most areas. The Svanirshaman summoning the ice elemental for example. If you fail to stop him from summoning, nothing happens. The next phase of killing the shaman continues the exact same as if you did the events.
What would be cool is if he actually summoned it, and it started to take over the northen section of the map with svanir and ice elementals. If you killed the shaman the, the elementals and svanir would start fighting each other.
Seeing several posts in General about people being left without a guild I decided to post this in case anyone felt like being picked up.
Tears of Ascalon [TOA]
Who we are:
We are a combination of guilds from GW1 which was played from start to “finish” (launching of GW2) by several members. We are mostly age 25+ but will take anyone that isn’t going to be a drama queen/king and just enjoys playing. We are not prude, but we also know how to watch what we say and to whom we say it. Perversion is allowed (within reason, i.e. no play-by-play but innuendo is perfect), while profanity in excess is not.
What we do:
We do a little of everything, though the main activity is leveling to 80, and then leveling alts. We run dungeons, Fractals, WvWvW, and sPvP when we feel like it, else we are out mapping or doing guildies’ story lines.
We are not above doing lower leveled areas/events/dungeons just to do them, or to help, despite getting a lesser reward. We are here for the long haul and so it matters not what we do, as long as we’re having fun (our leader had over 14k deaths in GW1 pve/jq and several members topped the 4k hr mark and beyond for play time).
Why should you join?:
If you want a truly casual guild that does whatever is on it’s mind, but has people willing to do several aspects of the game at most any point, then this might be a guild you would like.
Misc.:
We have a vent server, but most don’t use it. There is a handful of people that use it regularly, less that use it for special events.
We have ~50 members, though the normal is for about 5-12 people on at any given time.
We do not have a PR department, nor do we have a forum (yet). So that is why this post may seem a bit….dry and lack any “buzz” words or flair. We are working on getting a forum setup but due to RL going ons, it will take a bit of time.
That folks, is about all I got. While I’d like to regularly check on this, it’s unlikely it will happen often. If interested please PM me in game or on the forums.
Cheers!
Im not sure the drop raye was really all that beefed up.
Given that, i assume, a vast majority of active accounts that were logged in were in the event it is no surprise that several dozens or hundred dropped.
I am also not convinced everyone posting a precursor in chat actually obtained it in the chest, or that they were all precursor. There are several named exotics with special effects, that aren’t precursor.
No, neither i nor any of the six other guildies i wad with received a precursor. Several named exotics though.
I dont grind, i am not a grinder. I dont feel obligated to run any dungeon or any area. I have however put in about five hours every day since pre release, and thats with having a full time job, baby, and wife.
Until ascended gear is mandatory for actual progression or as a gate, i.e must have ascended to do fotm2, i see little reason to be concerned.
For the competitive aspect, wvwvw, the easy solution is to cap stats at exotic level.
I have run about six sets of fractals, and i am only at lv.2, because i keep helping guildies. I dont mind, it just means more people to choose from. We often have pugs to fill in extra slots. Dont care what level or class as long as you can hold your own, which will be judged once we start. Hardcore and grinders obviously dont do that.
As for scaling, it needs to be the highest majority. So if 3 people have done scale 3, then you can start at 4 even if the other two haven’t done any.
If any “casuals” want a guild with people that have lives, send me a pm, just keep the drama out.

Against removing dailies. For me they are something to focus on while waiting for guildies.
I want boss dailies back, and maybe specfic dungeon paths similar to daily missions back in gw.
You can always grind out salvages if you want to boost your ach pts. Do events to generate cash, buy stacks of salvage items.
Sounds like ravenheart gloom, only that the light is actually important.
Like all flashpan events, i expect there to be no material good as a reward. That actually got xp, karma and coin was somewhat unexpected imo.
If any indication of how upset people are that they cant attend these, what in the six gods makes you think adding actual one time rewards would at all be reasonable?
I am not going to claim to know all weapon stats, but could it be possible some of what you are looking for is on random drops?
Gw1 used to have gold items drop with extra stats, randomly and Shields used to be able to get +5 energy…which were highly sought after.
Wasnt it stated that each elite dungeon would have its own condition to attune to, which you only need in order to farm more, err, go deeper.
Iirc, infusion doesnt block content, you can still run the dungeon, how deep you can go in an endless dungeon is the only “gate”
Dungeon poi and spvp poi and hearts have no effect, i’d assume mini updates also wont count. Expansions should have their own (only two legendary weapons per character is kind of lame, and i dont even have one yet)
It’s the fact that three months in there’s already power creep and no reason to believe it will stop. In order to be at maximum stats you need the new tier of gear.
There also is no reason to belive it will continue, other than the full range of ascended and legendaries being released.
Yes to be max stats you’ll need legendary gear. You wont necessarily need, ascended to get legendary, just as you do not need rare to get exotic. A true treadmill would be if it was mandatory to have one before you can get the other (not including pre req weapons because they are more of a material to use and over no stat diiference than other exotics).
We also dont need exotic to get ascended as the fotm can be accessed by any character of any level and be upscaled (at least during the event if i read correctly).
And now that zhaitan is killed, branded risen krait :-)
Branded armour could be really awesome….
I took the absence of new Halloween headgear in Guild Wars this year as a sign that a certain sword might be about to swing again.
Lolwut?
Devil horns at the start, for free.
Witch hat at the end, for free.
Phantom mask, for gems.
And two gem outfits.
Please do not post blatant misinformation.
As for the op. Given that fantasy is not your mainstay, even if gw2 were guaranteed to live forever im not sure your enthusiasm would perk up. You seem a bit jaded and depressed over coh and bitter towards ncsoft.
Not a criticism of you, just that it seems you might be a little caught up on the recent past to actually enjoy the present, and that is something you will have to work through.
Even if ncsoft let anet go, tyria would remain ncsofts.
Isnt custom arenas an answer to this? And isnt that being added soon? If so, sounds like complaining to complain.
Last i checked, spvp played a lot like gvg, just with added ways to generate score, hell you even have a guild lord to kill. So we dont have flag running, but we have capture points.
While that can be similar to ab, wvw is much more like ab, only on a larger scale.
Now custom arenas will be available, so we’ll have to see what that allows.
HoD here.
While can’t say it was particular fun week, I did manage to have some fun last night.
Started just trying to help a guildie do the jp in our home bl. CD group camping that, so we decided to join the masses and help out. Took over our home towers, a keep and defended our primary keep a couple times.
Favourite moment was TC had groups on both north and south of our central keep. I cloaked, went out the door, layed my mesmer trap and activated, ran back in. Repeated three times for what I estimate to be about 12 TC plummeting to their deaths.
While I am sure TC has it all right now, that was a fun night.
I would reccomend starting one of each race with each having a diferent clas. Play each for a zone completion or so.
This well let you find out which class, and race, fit your playstyle. Aside from size, the onlyreal difference is the racial skills, which will take a while to actually use all. Personally, i think the human ones suck…for a mesmer anyway.
First, while it says ravens..it is actually just the standard birds used when rangers and warriors summon them.
Second, it seems to last about 1 or 2 seconds.
Lastly, unless you have a short cd on an elite, it isnt very useful.
Why don't transmute stones allow us to look the way we want?

-It’s not about limiting customization.
-It’s not about preventing classes from wearing incorrect, absurd or mismatched armor.
-It’s about art. It would limit the artist to have to make sure all heavy armor could fit with all cloth armor with limited clipping.
I’m willing to be the artists wish we didn’t have as much customization as we already do because it means it makes it really challenging to create really unique designs.
In depth:
Heavy armor tends to have bulky segmented pieces while cloth and medium armor tend to have longer flowy armor. Most heavy armor boots would flip through medium or light armor leggings.
because there’s no clipping right now right?
and most light armour leggings are dresses/skirts, which no boots clip there period. if they’re not bell shaped then they’re skin tight or super short.
+1 for allowing classes to transmute skins of any armour to something you can wear.
I don’t even remember dredgehaunt mapping. I don’t recall it being overly difficult (mesmer here).
As for Orr goes, I literally ran through as most of the map as I could. Some of the skill points I had to fight through (a few I was lucky to have someone with the same goal), but overall, I think as a group of 2+ most of Orr (and Dredgehaunt) can be mapped quite easily (albeit constant fighting).
KRAIT are my most hated, and any area they are at. Risen Krait I guess are on top of that, but are they Krait first or Risen?
Well, it looks like the final option is to use your free transfer to go to a team with full control, then use gems to jump back before the 7 day travel ban is up, or wait the 7 days
Or wait until we get our guilds together after the massive fall out of the two that were carrying us through (personally banking on the guilds owning everything getting tired of NOT actually having any good fights and transferring to the weaker ones. Not likely but crosses fingers).
At least we don’t have to win gvg/paid tournaments for monthly….
……yet.
Actually, we (HoD) did own Stonemist this past weekend for a little bit. I was there, saw it happen Of course we then got a huge queue to be in EB after that, but we had it nonetheless.
As for the others, if you don’t want to help us take control (and there are people playing and working on gaining control), you can wait till we change colours, and hope we get to a colour you don’t have.
I need the poi/vista on EB for Red Team as well as one of the forts in Reds Home BL. I plan on rushing for those as soon as we get to red.
Finally, unless you reallllly need that legendary right away, just be patient. And if you did need that legendary, then you can pay gems to transfer back once you finish mapping. The 7 day limit is for FREE transfers.
Not sure if this was posted but…
To get to the mid level, walk off the chain to the first drop. walk off that one to a smaller island. From there you have to do one jump to a large island.
You do not even have to go to the very bottom until the chest, and at that point you just need one person that can rez you. The Mad King WILL jump back to the mid level if left alone at the bottom.
Also, in case you don’t want to face plant you way down, use speed boosts to make jumps, and take your time lining them up.
I hate leaderboards, they’re just kitten fodder (and I was one of those that ran successfully for 3-4 hours the first night, well into 2am :S)
That being said, I’d like to see a % of those that attempted it and succeeded. Along with a chart on how many of each species completed it (go asuran!). NOT a % of people that have the achievement as there’s several people that didn’t even attempt.
I personally enjoyed reading the forums at the start of each act to see what the new complaint. I did not have any complaints and preferred this Halloween to that of 250yrs ago. I’m glad the party is all day, means I don’t have to time myself for every 4 hrs :S
I’ve done it all so far and don’t regret any of it. I spent my $10 on keys and didn’t get anything, but then I wasn’t expecting anything either (even with a 90% chance I’d still miss…)
I don’t really understand all the people wanting super epic awesome stuff, it’s an event for a short period of time. Just enjoy a break from grinding out maps and Orr. WELL at least for ME it’s a break from all that and I fully intend to fully participate in all other events if they’re anything close to the content this one provided (lack of interest in areas of a game do not mean they don’t exist, so if you don’t enjoy simple scavenging hunts, farming, pvp or jumping puzzles, then I’m not sure what else you want to do…map?)
i just wish that it was more scalable..i.e. being right next to the wp shouldn’t cost 1s56c to use it…
You’re complaint is that you feel forced to farm something that’s not forced to be farmed, but don’t want to listen to people say “don’t farm it then.”
I guess there’s no real argument that can be made to go against you that you haven’t already dismissed.
There’s actually a few jumping puzzles that are included with vistas /skill points:
Wall Breach Blitz in Diessa Plateau
Vizier’s Tower in Straights of Devestation
Tribulation Rifts in Dredgehaunt
Only 3 I can think of right now.
And thanks for thanking us
Phase Retreat seems to be behaving differently recently. Different in that I no longer am retreating in the direction i think.
Used to, it would phase retreat away from where I was looking, but now seems to be from “away” from my target. Several times now (especially in the MK dungeon), I’ve gone seemingly forward or to the side as opposed to backwards.
Anyone else noticed this or am I just making things up? It’s not a drastic change, but enough to throw off someone that’s been using a staff for 380 “levels”….
Didn’t read the full thread, but am I missing something? The “one time” thing is the BEGINNING of the Act 3, not the full act not even the Finale. One can only surmise it’s something arriving /changing and it’s a one time thing (because “it” doesn’t change/show up constantly). I’d be inclined to assume it has to do with the degrading lion statue to be converted into something.
So unless this beginning of act 3 is the full act, I find the whole complaint mostly irrelevant.
How can it be irrelevant when we don’t know what it entails or what rewards are given?
So what are the complaints? That it only happens once? So? If there’s some reward then there’d be an argument, but for a simple show, that’s much less of an argument because…it can be viewed on youtube afterwards.
Yes we don’t know, so the complaints seem to be from those that believe a) it’s the finale, or b) they get something out of it. but seeing as how it’s the “beginning” of Act 3, it makes little sense to provide something from it.
the one time event also is not the finale, unless you’ve read something i didn’t.

In the order I did them in:
Human Mesmer (unnumerable amount of attempts)
Asuran Warrior (2nd try)
Charr Guardian (a great many trys)
Norn Ranger (not so many as Charr, but enough to go “uggghhh”)
Plant Ele (roughly 5-6 tries)
No speed boosts for any. Charr was by far the most difficult. I expected Asuran to be difficult due to viewing issues (skirts, charr, norn, humans, plants), i got lucky I think in “guessing” where I was.
first, doesn’t have a main hand sword for both weapon sets limit your overall skill usage? I’d recommend, a wand+torch and sword+focus/sword.
Reason for wand is mostly because it has an extra block, as well as way to get additional clones out while waiting for your second weapon set skills to recharge.
sword offhand also has a block, sword main hand has an evade all (don’t be afraid to use even if not next to anything).
focus has a speed boost that doubles as a physical mob pulll, which is useful in wvw to pull people off walls/cliffs but also to control the movement of mobs in pve (like grouping them up in a nice little spot to be nuked by everything).
the pistol allows you to go invis and cause blindness (and some other condition), which can be used to get out of melee range for a chance to recharge a little.
Melee should never really be just standing there even for a warrior but especially for a mesmer.
Not sure if these have been posted, but here goes:
A Wardrobe. For combat gear and town clothes.
For combat gear, character based and town clothes account based (or character…)
It’d be nice if these could be like the dye panel. simply select the gear you have stored and presto! it’s equipped.
For town clothes, same as combat, except that if another character on your account has the item, you can’t equip. this can be rectified by adding more “licenses” to the outfit.
I’d be 100% ok with these as a gem store purchase too, even per character… The problem is that i can’t buy all of the town clothes for each character because well, it equates to a large amount of storage space. even the original town clothes can’t be purchased which means i have to hold on to them if I want to make my award winning [Grease Fire].
in response to a earlier suggestion:
- Inspect players!
- Preview build of another player
I would prefer this to happen much later in the game (read years later). It’s bad enough that some people aren’t allowed in because of what class they are, but if you add these options in, then you can get removed/not invited/not accepted simply because you aren’t min-maxed correctly according to the FOTM.
I did this long ago (bought medium TA boots, I needed light) and submitted a ticket (i mean how hard is it to take a soulbound…not account…out of someone’s inventory and replace with the appropriate tokens?). The response was, and i’m paraphrasing, “you’re s.o.l. there’s nothing we can do about this at this time. we’re sorry though!”
if it was account bound I wouldn’t have cared so much. On the plus side, it can be sent to the forge to mix with all the other gear I can’t use (from map completion).
To prevent further issues, it’d be nice to be able to, at the very least, be able to hide gear you can’t use, or have the gear grouped by type first then stats, not by stats first then type.
I’d also like to point out that the Lt.’s special move is a projectile. This means that anything that blocks/reflects projectiles can be used to block or evade it. Mesmer Feedback, is a nice one that protects everyone in the group, even those that are bad dodgers.
Phantasmal berserker can also block them, at least on one side (if lucky can get 2 out between his special attacks).
As a mesmer, the biggest danger in this fight is his normal attacks
::edit::
I was slow and other beat me to it
::/edit::
You do realize that “most games” that you are referencing, the whole point is to get UNIQUE ARMOUR and/or WEAPONS. Sure it has the best stats, but it’s still a grind to get armour and/or weapons. In this regards GW2 is the same as every single MMO out there for end game.
This is why I encouraged people not to rush to 80, instead enjoy the travel of getting there, because in the end, it’s all grind no matter what game, especially from a PVE aspect.
As for things to do, it’s kind of pointless to explain because it is all grind towards SOMETHING. However I would suggest going for 100% achievements, minus the pvp ones. And of course leveling alts to 80, but it’s all grind for something no matter what game you’re in.
well, one way or another there’s a bug here. Either it’s not functioning as intended, or the tool-tip hasn’t been updated.
happens to me, but not constantly. I do submit support tickets each time. Two main places is at the bottom of Dark Reverie and in the Ascalonian Tomb. The tomb is particularly troublesome because you can’t swim away to get out of combat.
and all it takes really is /bug subject: tele through ground, body: see pic, click attach screenshot. done.
takes 5s and it’d be totally worth it if it was fixed.
