Hey everyone! I’m Almar of AlmarsGuides (for those who don’t know me) and I decided to make a video specifically built around my Thief since it just so happens it’s the only class in the game I enjoy.
I’ve been asked before where I allocated my traits, what weapons I use and how I play with the spec and setup I chose. Not by you guys of course but by other players. So I decided to make a video going over my setup and demonstrating a few fights on my thief!
I decided to post it here because right when I got max I was looking for a build out there that suited my playstyle or just something i could get a base idea off of and build off of it to suit myself more. My intention with this video guide is to hopefully help anyone out whom would like to do the same.
If you have any questions please feel free to post them here or on the video! (Note that on the video will get an answer faster since it emails me when you post on the video! =P)

Added a Corrupted Lodestones farming video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ssGMllzN9s
Also added a Corrupted Lodestones written guide: http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/icebrood.cfm
I plan to add more guides sometime during this week
Ori ore locations will change every server reset, but will continue to respawn every 24h in the same location (when daily resets) until the next reset. This location information you have for particular nodes are good only for your server and only until next reset.
I am trying to compile a huge list of all the locations I have come across. There are hundreds of different locations for it to spawn and I know I can never give everyone “Here is where it is now” type of information but I can give people “areas you should check when servers come back up”.
On that note, I added a ton more locations to my website!
Farming is the best way. There are tons of different locations, Cursed Shore events tend to be some of the best money in the game. Since you just hit 80 I’ll give you a link to my source of farming information in Gw2 =D
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/
It’s my website and I have dozens of different farming guides for all levels, not all are ungodly amazing or will make you as much as the other ones but more locations = more wiggle room for becoming so bored farming the same location endlessly for dozens of hours
I felt this way too until I started approaching Gw2 as a “console” game and not an MMO. It just doesn’t give me the same enjoyment an MMORPG does because it lacks a lot of their features. The main one that comes to mind is an actual large amount of abilities available to use, only having 10 abilities out at once feels like a console game more than an MMORPG where you could have 4 hotbars filled with abilities.
I have a lot of Gw2 information on my website:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/
But I do agree with the youtube craze, I just started it not too many years ago because it seems like the future of gaming is going into the video format for all information rather than written. Even though I much prefer a written guide over hearing some nerd (even myself) narrate through uhms uhhs and “Hold on I can’t talk with a mob on me”s
I logged on today and thought my screen was all messed up but figured this was added when the game was restarted last night for a new build.
Is there anyway to turn this off? In zones with a lot of terrain being uneven my character appearing sideways is actually making me extremely dizzy which then leads to feeling woozy. I can’t even remotely explain why that is happening but it is and it’s really starting to mess with my own personal vision when I am playing.
I actually agree. the time for “studying” them is over, let’s start banning every one of them because while they might not be bothering me all that much they’re scaring away the actual players whom I enjoy playing with.
If I shoved the cheapest crafted rare i could make into the mystic forge
in Crafting
Posted by: guide.1487
I have gotten plenty of ectos from salvaging my crafted rares.
As for the mystic forge, I don’t really like it too much so I can’t comment on putting stuff in there and “gambling”
Almost every day we’re on the hunt for Orichalcum Ore and with them changing constantly it makes it hard to keep track of where all of them are.
So what I have been doing over the past few weeks is putting together a list of all the Orichalcum Node locations I have come across. I know it’s not complete and will never be complete but at least it gives you an idea of where you need to go if you’re having trouble finding that last node.
Here is a link to all the locations I have found thus far:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/locations/orichalcum/
If you’d like to see Ancient Wood gathering locations here are a few I made for them:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/locations/AncientWood/
If you have any locations you commonly check that you don’t see here feel free to let me know, I’ll add them to my list.
Hope I helped some of you find the Orichalcum you’re after!
High Level Profitable Chef Recipes (Using reagents from Cursed Shore, Malchors, Frostgorge)
in Crafting
Posted by: guide.1487
Added a page for this on my website, will update it later tomorrow when I don’t feel so worn down from lack of sleep:
For some reason I can’t quote on the forums atm, they seem to be always buggy for me.
Anyway the above poster has the right idea. If you want just Fine crafting materials stick with the Moldy Bags, the Miner’s Bags are the only ones that give stuff like butter/chocolate.
I honestly can’t see turning a reliable profit from these bags, it would be gambling with the odds in your favor but it’s still gambling.
However if you buy the bags and deposit all of the collectibles you’re going to fill up your collectible tabs extremely quickly.
High Level Profitable Chef Recipes (Using reagents from Cursed Shore, Malchors, Frostgorge)
in Crafting
Posted by: guide.1487
After farming Cursed Shore, Malchor’s Leap and Frostgorge almost endlessly I started to wonder what I could use all the raw cooking materials I was finding for. I searched the internet and came up blank for high end cooking recipes that you could turn a profit on. So, I decided to make my very own guide going over exactly that. The reagents I will be using to make more profitable items with are Omnomberries, Orrian Truffles, Lotus Root, Orrian Truffles and Snow Truffles.
I will add Saffron Thread in later if the items it makes ever become more valuable than what you could achieve from a vendor.
Below is a video guide for these recipes which will serve as the primary source of information until I get the written guide (further down the page) complete.
Recipe Combines You’ll Be Using:
Plate of Fire Flank Steak
1 Ghost Pepper
1 Slab of Red Meat
Cup of Lotus Fries
1 Lotus Root
1 Pile of Salt and Pepper
1 Jar of Vegetable Oil
Plate of Truffle Steak
1 Slab of Red Meat
1 Orrian Truffle
1 Snow Truffle
1 Stick of Butter
Just going to say aside from all the hatred in this thread,
I love legendaries how they are, in fact I wish they’d remove 100% map completion from them and up how much gold they cost. I hate having to do things that are ungodly frustrating (like vistas -_-) to get an item. However I don’t mind having to pay ungodly amounts of gold.
You did a really good job bringing back the old MMORPG feel where things take forever to achieve and actually acquiring them is an accomplishment. Thank you for finally giving old MMORPG players a game that is more like old school MMORPGs than new-age WoW where everyone can get the same items with just hours of work.
Finally got around to putting narration behind my Frostgorge Sound gathering path video. Only took like forever but here it finally is!
Some Orichalcum I need to wait 24hrs for others, like the one i found last night before i went to bed (1am) is up now at (9am).
These patch notes are still confusing to me though. I dont understand why they say what they do
I support RNG and everything it brings to the game.
Only the biggest and most nerdliest of nerds should be able to get legendaries, if you want the precursor and havent gotten it to drop yet. Buy it.
MMORPGs were built around GRINDS and the new age mmorpgs that are removing the grinds and adding in this stupid annoying “everyone gets everything so we’re all equal, yay!” is a flawed philosophy and is more boring than it is helpful to the little whiny kids that don’t want to grind.
Go play a different genre of games if you don’t want to grind, MMORPGs are not for you. MMORPGs are meant for nerds with no lives, stop ruining our genre!
Still looking for an answer on this. When I logged on this morning Orichalcum I mined last night could be mined again and most Mithril could but there are certain nodes I couldn’t.
Confused on exactly what all of this means.
That definitely would make sense. Everyone on my server was freaking out about it today but it seemed like the nodes respawned once an hour like they always do.
So I read the patch notes for October 1st:
Ancient wood, Orichalcum Ore, and Mithril Ore nodes respawn rate is now tied directly to characters and set to respawn one day after your character gathered from it.
But yet Mithril isn’t respawning once a day atm. Any reason for this? I’m kind of confused if this is a misprint or if it’s a future change that is coming.
Want to know what to do with all the high end Chef reagents? Well here is a video I made of all the recipes you can make them into to double or even sometimes triple your profit!
>.< opps typing at work , too many keyboards not enough hands.
this is actually a very nice way to "grind’ mats to craft as long as the bags are cheaper than what your after
That was definitely my intention when making this post. I buy 15 – 25 bags all the time to stock my collectibles tab so that way when I level up professions I have tons of mats at my disposal. I’ve leveled Huntsman on an alt after buying about 200 of each type of bag and had some mats even left over.
So while buying the bags might not have turned a profit immediately they definitely saved me an investment in the long run.
I think everyone is very confused on where I was trying to go with this tip. It isn’t a tip on how to make money or take over the world one fine crafting material at a time but a tip on how you can build up the crafting materials in your collectibles tab.
I’ve never once used this trick for money so I don’t know how it will fair in that area but i have used it constantly to build up the fine crafting materials in my collectibles tab for raising professions or whatever it is I need them for.
I apologize for the confusion
Many of you probably already know about the Moldy Bags and how awesome they are but for those of you that don’t this post will open your eyes to an endless supply of crafting materials for extremely cheap prices (thank the bots -_-)
What you want to do is buy Miner’s Sacks and Moldy Bags, open them up and profit! I created a youtube video to better demonstrate how this is all done even though it is really rather quite simple.
In the video I go over what each type of bag drops and I also show you how cheap most of the prices are currently. If you have any further questions feel free to post here or on the video, I’ll answer you!
If you need the fine crafting materials from mines (stuff like Carnelian Lump, Ruby Crystal, Ruby Shard etc etc) buy the Hidden <name> line of items. Like Hidden Trove, Hidden Cache, Hidden Stash etc etc.
Hope that helps some of you guys!

I plan to add a lot more to this guide (pictures and such) but here is a list of all the commonly needed Karma vendors: (If I am missing any you would like to see please post here or PM me. You can use the link to my website below)
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/karma/
Or, I will post my list of vendors in two different posts since the list is too long to fit into one.
List of Karma Vendors in Guild Wars 2
Karma is a form of currency in Guild Wars 2 that is earned through completing events in the game. It is used to purchase powerful weapons and armor as well as many other different types of items and goodies. There are tons of Karma vendors throughout the entire game and since there really are no databases of them all or a long list of the items you can get I decided to put together my own guide. I’m not going to go over every single Karma vendor in the game but I am going to go over the important ones.
First, let’s take a look at the most popular Karma vendors in the game. These vendors sell exotic gear for Karma. There are 6 different locations you can buy Exotic gear for Karma in Orr, the most common of these locations is the Gates of Arah in The Cursed Shore. The others are much harder to reach since they are very frequently contested. Below is a list of all 6 of these locations including the zone and the Waypoint/closest area.
Exotic Gear Karma Vendors
Straits of Devastation – Cathedral of Glorious Victory
Malchor’s Leap – Cathedral of Zephyrs
Malchor’s Leap – Cathedral of Eternal Radiance
Cursed Shore – Cathedral of Verdance
Cursed Shore – Cathedral of Silence
Cursed Shore – Gates of Arah
In order for the Karma vendor to be available here you will need to free the location from being contested. Usually this will take a large group to do or a well organized small group. As aforementioned the only one almost always available is the one at the Gates of Arah. Now with the Karma Armor vendors out of the way we can take a real close look at the miscellaneous Karma vendors. Below are some Karma vendors that will sell you materials used in everyday playing.
It’s not that big of a deal to buy these items but if you got a lot of Karma piling up and are short on cash these will save you a small amount of money in a pinch.
Orichalcum Harvesting Sickle – Lightbringer Ives (Caer Shadowfain Waypoint) in Cursed Shore
Orichalcum Logging Axe – Tactician Almonia (Penitent Camp) in Cursed Shore
As far as an Orichalcum Mining Pick being sold by a Karma vendor goes I have not seen one. Kind of odd that you can buy a Logging Axe and a Harvest Sickle but no Mining Pick, wouldn’t you agree?
Now with the miscellaneous vendors out of the way lets look at what probably brought you to this page, the long list of cooking materials you can purchase with Karma. Before I dive into this list it is important to remember that a lot of these vendors are unlocked by first completing the quest they have available. This means you’ll have to fill up their heart before being able to purchase their goods. Each of these items costs the same amount of Karma regardless which of the vendors you go too.
I only list more than one vendor for people that haven’t completed all the quests and are feeling extra lazy. Also each of the bulk bags you buy contain 25 of whatever item it is you’re buying.
Added a video on the best way to get Fine Crafting Materials for all skill ranges:
It’s been awhile since an update but today is going to be a huge day with a whole lot of videos being uploaded! Here is what I got done so far:
Malchor’s Leap Farming Guide (Gathering) – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQief0jx4-M
Dredgehaunt Cliffs Gathering Route (for players 40 plus) – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pinl9090ePc
It’s called a legendary for a reason. Only the most elite top level total nerds should be getting them. This isn’t world of warcraft where a legendary is something one person in every guild gets during a raid and before you know it everyone has one.
Leave it as it is, it’s perfect. It gives the game an older MMORPG feel back when things actually took time to get and felt like accomplishments when you finally got them.
Added a new Skelk location in Frostgorge Sound: http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/Skelk.cfm
Also started a lot of work on my first 1 – 20 Farming Guide (location is Plains of Ashford) – http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/Ashford.cfm
Finished two more guides today;
Jotun Farming in Dredgehaunt Cliffs (Level 45 Area) – http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/jotun.cfm
Malchor’s Leap (Eastern End of Zone) Farming Guide – http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/MalchorsLeap/Eastern.cfm
I will get more guides up tomorrow!
Got a lot of work done today on more Orichalcum/Ancient Wood node spawn locations since the servers just recently reset. I also acquired more information that there are 5 different sets(areas) for each node that can spawn in the high end zones. I am not sure if this is correct or not but I guess eventually with enough server restarts we shall see!
Orichalcum Locations – http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/locations/orichalcum/
Ancient Wood Locations – http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/locations/AncientWood/
Since for some odd reason I can’t quote right now…
@Reubend – I am currently working on lower level farming guides, right now Dredgehaunt Cliffs is on my todo list (actually was working on my farming map before I came to post this) By the end of this week expect about 5 – 10 locations for players 1 – 60
@Sentorio – There will always be a best farming location, of course. There will always be a “best” place. But some people like farming specifically for what they need/want (even though farming something else that gives them more money would mean they could buy more of what they wanted with less time spent. I’ve tried explaining this before in WoW but they never wanted to take the advice.)
Also since many people get bored of farming ungodly fast providing different locations helps add some variety to the “boringfulness” of grinding the same areas day after day.
Hope that answers your question! =)

I’m working on more guides and videos now, hopefully I will have them up and running by tomorrow. Let me know what you guys think!
Got a few of my videos up and operational now! Here are links to two of them (uploading others now!)
The Frostgorge Sound Troll Farming Area – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCxJMdWcb6g
Fireheart Rise Wolf Farming Area – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwhK5pRCP5s
I’ll post the others later once i get them back up!
Above poster is right, also sorry for the double post of videos these forums just do not like me at all today, it isn’t even letting me delete one of the posts! I keep getting a proxy error when trying to do it.
not the only issue anyway,
Had to take down the videos for a bit to fix a few things and reupload them so they get monetized. Sorry about that!
Written guides still work though!
I finished my Skelk guide:
The Skelks and Arctodus’ are one of the many great farming locations you’ll come across in Frostgorge Sound. If you’ve ever killed Skelks before then you probably already know that they have a great drop rate on a lot of rare crafting materials used in all different professions. At this farming location you will commonly find Vials of Potent Blood, Large Fangs, and less commonly drop Vial of Powerful Blood, and Vicious Fangs. Now if you’re familiar with Skelks at all, which you should be, you will know that they’re a tad bit annoying to kill.
Skelks Shadowstep to their target, going Stealth for a brief few seconds and then attacking their target again. It is quite annoying to deal with but well worth it for the goodies that they drop. The Arctodus bears Maul but that is nothing but a little bit extra damage to their attack. Really nothing to worry about if you are level 80. In other words this location is extremely easy to farm, you shouldn’t die a single time here even if your gear is complete and utter crap.
Now to reach this farming location what you will want to do is port to the Blue Ice Shining Waypoint in southwestern Frostgorge Sound. Below is a picture of the Waypoint in relation to the farming location which is circled in blue on my map.
There is very little left to write on the page but I do have a wee little bit left to do.
Tomorrow I plan to finish that guide as well as most of the others. Also I am going to look into the Trolls in Frostgorge that are botted by dozens of people. I’ve gotten a few tips that if you run in there and mark each troll you actually make quite a bit of gold. We shall see!
I found two more good locations this morning while playing. One is in Fireheart Rise, you’ll be killing wolves here for Large Claws and Large Fangs. They have a great drop rate and the wolves always summon an additional wolf while fighting one. Double the loot!
This location is northeast of Breaktooth’s Waypoint, if you’d like to see a picture of where it is exactly here is a link to the guide I have for it:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/FireheartriseWolves.cfm
As of right now it is super duper under construction. The only valuable information on that page are the pictures.
Then I found a great place in Frostgorge Sound that has you farming Skelks and Arctodus (bears) for Vicious Fangs and Vials of Potent Blood. This location is northwest of the Blue Ice Shining Waypoint in southwestern Frostgorge Sound. If you would like to see a picture (once again my guide is NOT finished) take a look at this link here:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/Skelk.cfm
Happy hunting, good luck and don’t forget to bring your Magic Find boosting stuff!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the Oric/AW spawns change locations every time the server is restarted and will be different on each server?
They change locations weekly I think it seems or maybe it is every time the server is reset. As do most gathering nodes. I think however they still have “set” spawn locations and If I am able to document their set spawn locations it should make it easier for people to at least hunt for Orichalcum and Ancient Wood rather than run around blindly wondering where all the nodes are.
I also may have to edit my maps and routes until the servers reset enough times that I can find a perfect route to zig-zag through in each zone.
Added a bit of information to my Chef farming locations:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/cooking/
I plan to do a writeup on Vanilla Beans when I get the chance as well as Grapes. I also need to figure out what some of the more rare Chef materials are that way I can make guides to cover them!
Anyone out there know any of the rare materials I don’t already have covered? I would appreciate your help forever!
Hey everyone! Many of you might already know who I am if you have played other MMORPGs like Everquest, World of Warcraft or other games similar to them. If not let me introduce myself!
I am Almar of AlmarsGuides.com, a popular online source of guides for mostly MMORPG and MMO games. I cover most of the popular games out today and just recently picked up GW2 to get some guides done for here.
Now since I know none of you care who I am or what I have done, let’s get started with what I am here for! If you’d like to view all of my guides yourself check out my main page here (http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/) if not continue reading, I will go over some of my more popular guides!
So I found a few amazing farming locations in Gw2 and I wanted to share what I found here.
The first location is farming Straits of Destruction, this is good for plays 65+ that want to scoop up some endgame materials: http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/straits.cfm
The second location requires you to be about level 72+. It involves the Minotaurs in Frostgorge Sound
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/Minotaurs.cfm
Tidbit of my guide: “The Alpine Minotaurs in Frostgorge Sound are one of the best mobs I have found to farm 75+. These Minotaurs can be found in southern Frostgorge Sound just north of the Arudon Waypoint which is the most southern waypoint in Frostgorge Sound; seperating this zone from the 1 – 15 zone Wayfarer Foothills. The thing that makes these Minotaurs so good to farm is the fact that they drop the blue crafting material Vial of Potent Blood in large quantities. Much like all other blue crafting materials this sells for a good amount of money on the Auction House.”
The next area is Malchor’s Leap, the eastern end of the zone. I’ve found this route to be extremely safe and quite profitable!
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/MalchorsLeap/Eastern.cfm
I still need to complete my full Malchor’s Leap route but what I have there is a great start for the “easier” end of the zone.
Next up is the most popular farming location in the entire game, The Cursed Shore’s Events!
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/CursedShore/Events.cfm
Tidbit from my site: "If you have ever been to The Cursed Shore you probably know about “the events” that are farmed literally 24/7 by players in search of gold. These events take place in the central area of The Cursed Shore on the far eastern side of the zone, just north of Arah’s entrance basically. Here there are two events, one is at Penitent Camp to the north and another at Shelter’s Gate to the south. Both of these events go off one after another and refresh it seems to be roughly ever 20 minutes."
After that we have my northern Cursed Shore farming path:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/CursedShore/Northern.cfm
Central Cursed Shore Farming Route:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/farming/locations/CursedShore/Central.cfm
And despite having many, many more locations I will end with two guides I am still working on that have pictures of all the Orichalcum Spawn Locations I know of and Ancient Wood Log spawn locations.
Orichalcum:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/locations/orichalcum/
Ancient Wood:
http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/locations/AncientWood/
A few are missing but expect them to be added asap!
I hope you guys enjoy my guides and I really look forward to hearing back from you all!
