Really, I’ll stop roaming as a thief if SE nerf is true.
Sickem on rangers could be a bother in nasty 1v2+s, but I learned how to escape shadow traps when being chased by 3 people so that’s not really an issue (although I agree that it’s the ONLY offensive skill which can’t be dodged in the whole game).
SE nerf will harm every thief, not just D/P.

Sick Em being unavoidable is going to be really annoying. But I can live with that.
However, I can’t live with that huge cooldown on Shadow Embrace.

I think there are a few steps to consider when roaming.
I think that the most important think when roaming is NOT to die, even if that means going full PVT (or Dire stats if you’re a condi focused class). You must learn to use every skill at your disposal which improves your chances at surviving every time you are in a bad situation. Like a blink: you cannot wait 1 second after you get stunned to teleport away, you must use it IMMEDIATELY.
Start by staying alive, don’e even bother about killing. Once you’ve gotten better at staying alive, THEN you should start considering “how” to kill people.
At this time, you will find out that you are dying too much because you are over extending. Once you realize this, go back with staying alive.
With practice, you will learn everything. I’ve spent around 200hours on my thief before understanding almost any situation I’m in, what fights to pick, when to get defensive, when to be aggressive, when to stomp, when to chase.
After this, it all comes to your skill in 1v1ing. For that, you should know every possible build out there for ANY class and how to counter them with YOUR build,

My first advice is: learn how to survive. Just try engaging fights for the sole purpose of staying alive – don’t even bother about killing, just autoattack to make people follow you.

I watched that video just for the lolz.
Could you tell me at what time of the day you were playing when you recorded? GH fill be fighting AM in the leagues so I want to know when AM people are going to willingly get away from the blob and get killed like kitten.

The best part was:
1) a zerker staff ele, rank COLONEL, who stayed in Fire Attunement for the whole duration of the fight, spamming 1 and 2 when it was off CD.
2) the Healing Signet-Hammer Warrior who ACTIVATED healing signet when at 40% health.
3) the engineer who stood still for the whole duration of the fight

D/P is terrible for dueling – at least my build is garbage for 1v1, unless the opponent I’m facing is not running a meta build or is not as skilled as me.

I’ve yet to use my mesmer in WvW aside from a few times with the pug train, so these kinds of opportunities are really good for learning something

You dont seem to get the point? Even if you’re rooted, you cannot be bursted since you evade ALL attacks during the ‘channel’ … And even if you miss the first hit, does not automatically let you miss all other hits, which do massive AE cleave dmg. Get your facts straight before lamenting.

If you miss the first hit, no one will be hit by the following cleaves. The evasion frames do not even cover the whole animation.
Pistol Whip is balanced as it is, I’d say it’s one of the most balanced weapon sets thieves have at the moment.

This change would nerf it to the ground. Pistol Whip has a really telegrapbed animation. If you miss the first hit, you are going to be rooted in place, ready to be burst down. It’s high initiative cost (5!) is already a high price for not landing the first hit.

If you did, I’m pretty sure I tried to duel you many times on my d/d ele, under the guild tag FIRE or PROT, but I always got you down to 20% hp and then you always just vanished

If you would like to fight any d/d roamers I know TUP got atleast 1 pretty good guy, Slomo, I dont mind doing duels now and then, but it depends on the time due to me being Australia I normally get rubber-banding during aussie prime due to 750 people in the same building on the same connection (not all at once ofc., but you get the point I hope :P ), also we got a really good guy coming back to game that is guildless atm, Rizadon, 99% sure he’s up for some nice duels aswell.
You also now have Intigo that’s d/d, and this is just a few of the d/d I know of so there is more then enough to pick from if you would like to fight d/d ele’s

I remember a long duelling session in front of RoF spawn in our border some time ago, in which I faced a lot of bunkers, mostly dd eles and healway guardians.
If you were in one of those fights, I think you were so tankish that I had to use all my stealths, shadow refuge and heal included, to try to burst you down it was only natural for me to recover a bit when such assaults didnt work – still, they were great fights. It was then that I realized I cannot kill bunkers on my own with my build, but Im ok with it so far
Too bad RoF didnt make it in silver, you had some great roamers and I learned a lot fighting you guys!

On another note I really cant recall any fight against a dd ele in our match up vs AG I probably missed you

I’m not very bunkerish at all, but I know when to dodge against thiefs as I’ve been dueling a lot with thiefs in my guild, so tried to learn when their big burst’s are coming But if you are the TEO thief I think you were we dueled like 3 times were you ran away all the times after getting down to 10%^^

We do have some roaming thieves in our guild but again, I’ve never seen an elementalist in our matchup against AG. If it was a “real” duel I usually fight to the death and rarely get away with 10% health unless against a lucky thief who manages to backstab me from behind while hitting the air :P

Maybe the next time we get the opportunity to fight we’ll arrange a “proper” duel, I really want to test my new build against wannabe bunker classes

Do you mean that hammer warriors have perma stun?… I have never seen anything easier to avoid that Earth shaker. And if you mean “Skill” crack I have a duel with one of those that is pretty good and I make tons of mistakes and still beat him. In this nearly 3 minute clip … he only lands ONE skill crack on me.

Actually he landed 3 skullcracks, but you had stability on on 2 of them so you only took the Skullcrack->100b combo once.

EDIT: also I’m quite sure you would have died if he had 25 stacks of bloodlust when you took that skullcrack→100b+frenzy combo.

In a 1v1 I ALWAYS fight to the death. Yesterday I met a decent D/P thief and we dueled for bit even though his build was more suited for dueling while mine was more for surviving in a 1vX scenario. I kept fighting knowing that I would have died eventually but it didn’t matter as I learned quite a few things from that fight

OP, I agree with you. There is ABSOLUTELY no class which can RELIABLY kill a DECENT D/P Thief. If I want to disengage, I can do that at ANY TIME. Our shadowstep provides us with 2 teleports, a condi cleanse and 2 stun breakers: when I have to use that I usually think about if it is safe to continue the fight or if it is better to leave (since most of my encounters are 1vX).

There ARE, though, some good counters to D/P thieves. Any class with a quick pull/push would put the thief in a bad situation if you can move them from their smoke field. But it is not enough: they will usually have either a Shadowstep (un-interruptable), a Shadow Refuge (almost un-interruptable), a Heal and maybe a Blinding Powder (un interruptable) which will make them regain control of the fight. So you must QUICKLY burst the thief down in that limited time frame, else your interrupt will be worth nothing.
A Hammer/Longbow Warrior is really good against pure zerker/valkyrie D/P Thieves because their stuns and AoE are enough to kill him fast unless they Shadowstep away.
Not only this, but a full PVT Hammer/Longbow Warrior with Healing Signet and Dolyak Signet will be impossible to kill for any non-zerker thief because of their insane regen. So, at the moment, a good Hammer/LB Warrior is the BEST counter to D/P.

Shatter Mesmers ARE a good counter to thieves because it will take them a lot of time to understand which clone to attack while in Stealth: use that time to your advantage.
Engineers ARE a good

I’d say that even Engineers are good against this class, because their costant AoEs are really painful for us.

Also, there is ABSOLUTELY no way that a regen ranger or any type of guardian could kill a good D/P thief. NO WAY, unless the skill gap is incredibly high.

Kodash always provides some great fights, both raiding-wise AND roaming wise (met some really good guardians, eles and even a thief who made me revise my build :O).
Vizunah roamers are really really “bad”. I’d expect a BRONZE ASSAULTER to know that he must not fight inside a Black Powder. I hope he learned that.
However, raiding wise, it’s just easy mode. The moment they see you, they run away, even if they outnumber you (unless they are 3times more than you). The fun begins when you manage to attack them before they port: free loot.

If you interrupt “useful” skills you should be already rewarded with that skill not being activated. It’s interrupting AA chains that’S far too easy and since this runeset promotes this way of playing you end up being a terrible player with a op set.
Thief pistol#4 is a total waste of initiative if you interrupt an auto attack, so you have to time it right. But a bad thief can gain a lot of control in the fight if he does so with these runes.

I’m surprised you have seen these type of AG roamers, personally having been a roamer in AG for the past 1 year now I would have enjoyed the company of such op builds, but that has rarely been the case.

Mostly my fighting companions have consisted of:

-full glass cannons fresh off a dungeon run

My experience of GH roamers was:

-perplex thief
-perplex warrior
-perplex eng
-perplex ele

-perplex ranger
-perplex guardian

Anyway, it’s difficult to judge the quality of a server’s players only based on what you have witnessed. You claim to have never seen an AG D/D ele, I believe we have the best D/D eles around.

I wouldn’t claim that AG has the best roaming culture at the moment (almost zero small scale guilds exist on this server) but we do have some ace players, who have shown true skill throughout the game’s existance and are not only good at playing the latest cheese builds.

I believe it’s a matter of timeframes: while I was roaming against AG, I roamed from 1am to 4-5am GMT+1. And believe me when I say my statement is completely true.
We do have a fair amount of small scales guilds (we actually have 2 [Psy] guilds, both really good in terms of players, and I m really disappointed to see that you ve found such players in GH.

Some tips:
You should have showed that it is really important to “face” your target when deploying a catapult, as it would take loads of time to turn it if you throw it in the wrong direction.
Also, you could have shown more “sweet” spots for deploying catapults.
Over 30% of the video is pretty useless, as anyone would understand what “turn left” and “turn right” mean.

Most of GH roamers are P/D thieves, D/D Eles (never seen a single one in AG), Condi Mesmers (with no perplexity), S/D thieves, GS Hybrid Warriors, and we even have some really good rangers and, of course, D/D thieves.
Actually, most of our “good” roamers have dropped using Perplexity because they clearly understood how broken it was. I will surely laugh HARD when the incoming nerf of that rune will get out.
I roam with a D/P myself but only abuse of stealth when I want to delay a zerg. In small scale battles I don’t stay stealthed more than any D/D thief, unless I’m badly outnumbered.
Whereas D/P users in AG are just a bother. I usually “/laugh” at them waiting for them to use their basilisk-backstab on me, then go away as they are still wondering why I am still alive with 50% HP.
However, now that I think about that, I believe I will cary some StealthTraps with me. Maybe it will teach them how to fight in extreme situations.

If they removed both Applied Fortitude AND Guard Leech then no one would be complaining.

Alas, such buffs are too big to be overlooked. That’s why everyone is asking for Account Wide WXP.
Having 3 main characters (wxp lv 90,80,20), I would be close to max both those stat buffs. Unfortunately that is not the case.

Banner rezzing like we GH did is quite hard to achieve.
I mean, you CAN rez the lord once or twice in a normal siege, but without proper coordination you will still lose the keep.
If holding a keep through banner rezzing would only require 10 warriors, then it would be impossible to even cap a keep.

Not to mention that it looks like you didnt try anything else to cap our garri aside from blobbing in our inner.

To me, it seems that VotF had either overestimated their allies, or they underestimated our resolution to hold the keep. In any case, they “failed”.

I dont want to fight Blobbaddon.
And AG roamers are boring, really cant stand them atm. But with the upcoming Perplexity nerf, it COULD become somewhat fun. We ll see.
Really looking forward to fight against Gandara, since I still have to face them in combat.
Too bad Kodash wont be in Silver League, they had some of the best Rangers I ve fought with.

I’m happy that people still consider us TEO people to be a “strong” guild by naming us, but keep in mind that we are having a lot of issues with raids as of lately and we usually roam with less than 15 people (today we were 12 at best!), usually with really bad class composition. It is only “natural” for us to try grouping with other big guilds since the numbers we are facing far outnumber ours.

Hopefully we’ll do better during the next matchup

Since I am in absolute need to farm Bloodstone bricks for getting my professions from 450 to 470, could you tell me which champ train is best to follow?
I always did Frostgorge Sound champs, but lately it is almost empty. So I don’t know if I should go guesting on another server or try Cursed Shore.

Remember: I am talking of a time-reward perspective.

I read some of the posts in that topic in the UW Forums. It was extremely disappointing. I seriously hope you “good” UWs keep doing all your best as a server and prevent that thing to happen.
If you want easymode 11111 just follow your PvE Champ Trains.

And just for your info I have been in Punk from the first minute it was created and I have never in my life seen 40 Punks in a wvw event at the same time, infact nowhere near 40.

I’m not trying to say anything, just that it has changed from the last time we faced you. I remember seeing you in different borders and doing different stuff – exactly as any guild in GH does.
I raided at reset, on Sunday and on Monday. And everytime I shouted “Looks, it’s Kale!” I had to add “Actually it’s Kale AND Punk together!”. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Again, not implying that you shouldn’t do that – absolutely not. Only that the way you play is similar to Abaddon’s, with probably a higher skill but smaller numbers. And that way of playing is exactly what cripples us the most, both in terms of PPT and in terms of fun (if we want to have any chance we have to group up with another guild).

Game plan is simple:

1) Log into all the various BL’s until I find “Outnumbered” so I know I’ll be regularly facing challenging fights.
2) Select a BL, consult the map to kitten the situation and determine where you want to go.
3) My gear is basic exotics and although I do use food, I want to win on equal terms or preferably when the odds are against me.
4) Engage anything that seems somewhat winnable, but likewise be smart to disengage when the odds are overwhelmingly against me.
5) Don’t worry about kitten though, no kittens in heaven die when my toon bites the dust.
6) Don’t add to ongoing 1v1’s, it’s lame.
7) When you win just walk away when the opponent wasn’t that worthy, do a /bow when it was a good fight and when it was a very close fight I sometimes party invite someone for a chit chat.

Interesting concept about leaving the opponent in downed state, without actually stomping them. Nice sign off respect and will definitely start doing that.

Pretty much what I do. It looks like all roamers come to use the same logic eventually :O

However I didn’t remember that Kale and Punk used to blob together all those times. Really, FSP is the new Blobbadon. We (5 TEO and 15WBC) faced you in front of our spawn in FSP border and you were, AT LEAST 40.
Good fights, really entertaining, but you should end your argument about “you are more than us” since you ALWAYS roam together, while we guilds from GH use to do that only in extremely rare situations as we don’t usually join fights started by other guilds.

On another note, it’s a shame that UW is doing so poorly. They have some great guilds but it looks like they lost the majority of their pugs. Shoutout to XxX: had the BEST fights of the whole night against you in FSP south border
