For PvErs that have just jumped into WvW, it is definitely a useful guide.
Mercy killing is productive when the opposite direction is a very high and very thick brick wall.
Until anet gets a dev on a thief, who will willingly be our voice to the balancing team, this profession is trash.
Vote for Zacchary being hired by Anet as the first Thief in the Dev Team
Thing is, most people will not even fight underwater. I usually try to avoid water combat at all costs because I don’t even know what my skills do
The only exception is with my Ele (played a lot of PvE with him so I know what keys to press XD).
So, unless you can force your opponent into fighting underwater, which is really hard as a mesmer because you lack enough skills to keep your foe CCed, you will not make good use of this build I’m afraid
The only class which has enough skills to keep its opponent inside the water is the Ele at the moment.
EDIT: I changed your build a bit, especially the traits:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQBVSPrqeRNDak1kIme0bIHFeqQ0RqgqVSBvhbA-j0CBohYoiIUAIk0Y5PKrJSCiVRht+aIaqbYaXER1GeFRrWKAIGGB-w
No need for longer feedbacks, as any clever opponent will move away from it asap.
The reduced CD on the trident helps with locking down your opponent. Not only this, but the trait which “mirrors the disabling effect on your opponent” might be really great for providing an additional stun in your build

I simply don’t want to live without both my GS and staff and am looking for a viable build for wvw havoc squad mainly.
Here is what I would like.
toughness at least up to 1700
my phantasms to do max amount of damage using berzerker and iwarlocks
anyone have a build?
Thanks,
Graey
iWarlock does not do a lot of damage. Actually, it’s damage output is really poor, completely outshined by iZerker, iDuelist and iSwordsman.
How many people is your havoc squad composed of?
Anyway, this is the best I could think of:
Most of its damage will be dealt by the phantasms. Use your #5 skills for CC, the staff #2 for defense and autoattack for additional damage.
The clones on dodge are much needed because of the F4 skill, since against many opponents your phantasms will die really quick it will not be a problem if they get overridden by clones: hopefully, with the cd reduction traits, you will be able to cast other phantasms quickly.
I put in Mender’s Purity for additional condition removal, as you will suffer a lot of damage from them, but you could go for Prismatic Understanding instead. Your choice
As for the utilities, you could Replace Null field with something else: either Veil or Portal could be solid choices. It’s up to you and to what you are most likely to encounter during your trips: if you fight condi heavy classes, then stick with null field. If you don’t consider Veil (which works really nice with Prismatic Understanding).
Gear setup is based on exotics only and it’s the best you could equip your character with in terms of overall useful stats. I chose Traveler Runes because they are really helpful for a Mesmer, but if your group can provide enough Swiftness you could easily replace them.
Sigil of Energy on the Weapons is nice for additional survivability, since you will be swapping weapons a lot.
Zord where are you? I miss you soooooo much
I smell and Underworlder here
Managed to watch til the 8 minute mark.
I want 8 minutes of my life back please.
What you did:
killed an upleveled zerker ranger.
?
I’d go for a:
-Since editing Shadow’s Embrace tooltip was too hard, we normalized the trait giving it a 10s cooldown. This way the tooltip is no longer wrong.
Mesmer. But you must not miss your Moa Morph
You need A LOT of space to “try” to kite them with your phantasms. PU mesmers take too long to kill them. In any case you must give them the node.
If only it weren’t for the worst servername out there I would be glad to take a vacation from GH to Vabbi.
Keep it up Zord, you’ve entertained me a lot so far.
Just don’t complain when we use golems to make it faster: you already know the outcome. If I were you I’d go back to farm Tequatl.
The thing is: you should be in the big league facing similar sized coverage. Instead you chose to get yourself demoted to silver league so that you could faceroll your way to victory. You’re the ones ruining the fun for everyone.
But you’re right, I’m back to pve for the remainder of the matchup. I might play EB in prime time, but I’m not gonna waste hours building stuff in BL just so you can tear it down with sheer numbers the second it’s done.
Enjoy your effortless victory and your added bonus chests.
I’m sorry to tell you this but we certainly did NOT “demoted ourselfs to silver league”, since release we haven’t been once at a Rank that would qualify us for gold league, furthermore we were for something like 18 weeks straight at rank 11, so please accept this as a fact!
BUT it is also a fact that this matchup isn’t fun for anyone….but it is not entierly our fault, it was Anet who introduced this wvw-achievements and lured hundreds of PvE people into the wvw which results in this crazy numbers we are fielding right now! And when it’s an “easy week with low risk”(not because you playing bad!! Only because you are ridiculously outnumberd) this problem gets far worse…the waiting queues are unbelievable, never seen something like that, and I’m playing here since day 1!
I really hope this gets better under the week, and that in the end everybody can have a little fun!Don’t even try to explain that to them lol. We’re the bad guys here.
Bad troll is bad.
I like the blobs
as long as we had about the same numbers we had awesome fights all over eb tonight.sad to lose the keep then to a 80 man zerg with Omegas and Alphas instead of a epic battle without those (no offence) “farming sieges” and make it a real deal.
anyway GJ and see you soon.it’s the only way for us to get loot as all the guilds from gh flee the moment they see even a non-blob group of AM people together they go inside their keeps rather then fight. at least in taking a keep we get some silver. It will surely be a boring week.
You should get more silver from farming coyotes in front of your spawn then

It reminds me of when we had enough wealth to do that too :’(
If you dodge-jump while going up on a slope you actually cover LESS distance.
However I can’t stop doing this everytime.
The downside is that with sudden lagspikes it could mess you dodges and you end up jumping :/
I can’t believe anyone is still trying phantasm builds in spvp. I’ve always thought that they died months ago. In spvp (and especially tpvp) I usually run some sort of condition build and trait for condition removal. I just don’t think phantasms cut it anymore.
They may not kill stuff as fast as other builds, but believe me when I say they work really well against most classes. Actually most people I face run a lot of condi removals which are completely useless against any pure Phantasm build, so that’s a bonus. They are really great against spirit rangers because you outrange them and the iZerker has nice AoE to kill the spirits.
I might suffer when fighting on point but they are still quite good overall. Granted, there are more viable builds in the current meta but for 1v1 purposes they are still quite nice :]Anyway, thank you for your feedback guys. I just wanted to see if it was just me or if people always complain. Hotjoin is usually played by really bad players with useless builds, so no wonder people consider themselves good when killing people in HJ: actually, some people just get carried by their builds in HJ, because the people there don’t really know how to play. I’ve seen P/P burst thieves who spammed Pistol #3, S/S+GS warriors who 100b in the air, mesmers using Moa on my spirits…
dont forget your mesmer build, your spirit ranger and s/d thief.
I’m perfectly aware of that and I am perfectly aware that most 1v1 I win in HJ are decided the moment I engage my opponent because he is using a sub optimal build while I am using one of the best there are. However, the people I kill this way are NOT the people who complain – on the other hand, those who are using a “meta” build and get killed are those who QQ the most :]
funny. u mentioned u wanted to learn.. so what exactly u are learning playing the broken builds atm? how often do u get caught in a unfavourable position where your build hasnt a resolution?
so my suggestion would be to play older and lesser effektive builds. the learning is much higher then getting carried by builds. so u dont need to wonder why u are called noob.
and i also think duelling doesnt mean run for your live until your heal is up again.. just my opinion.
I run if I am outmanned, and that is likely the case in a 5v5 small map. I always accept defeat if I get outplayed.
I ran with S/P in HJ as a thief before the nerf, and still get called noob. Even my Phantasm Mesmer build is “entirely” developed by me, as I firmly believe not many people like to use 25 in Illusions, giving up the 20 points in Duelling when using Phantasms, this while using Soldier Jewel and Melandru Runes with Sigil of Purity. I firmly believe not many people run this build, and certainly it is not a FOTM build as I have still to meet someone using it.
As I said, I used spirit ranger for, like, 10 matches? Too boring. Used S/D for 20 matches at best, but I find more fun with my mesmer at the moment.
Yeah, I said I want to learn. So what? Should I use “useless” builds because then I would learn more? Even with my Phantasm Mesmer I still face a lot of troubles when I meet a condi engineer (those AoEs destroy my phantasms and they still unload so many conditions on me that my damage cannot keep up with theirs) or a Hammer/Longbow warrior, so it’s not like I wouldn’t learn anything from those encounters because I am using a good build.
I create my builds all by myself, I don’t let other people tell me what to use. I simply make a build, go in HJ, test it (hopefully with against opponents, not rifle warriors) and if it works and if it is fun, then I will keep it. The moment I get stomped everytime I meet a good opponent, then I will try to tweak it or “delete” it if I can’t find anything that works.
I do agree that winning fights with sub optimal builds requires more skill – that is a no brainer. But what’s the point of playing a sub optimal build IF I want to win? Why should I use a SB/SB cleric thief in sPvP and expect to reliably kill people for example? Surely it will require more skill, but I highly doubt that every good player out there started by using subpar specs.
(I continued the discussion because I want to hear your PoV about this, but if I see another troll-like attempt I won’t think twice about ending it).

But just so you know, s/d thief, phantasm mesmer, and spirit ranger are all rage inducing to try and fight 1v1 against.
This is basically it. Try adding the warrior on your list, OP, and you’re good to go.
So you are saying that if I win a 1v1 with, say, an Ele or a Guardian my enemies will acknowledge their loss (being it because of lack of skill or build countered) without QQing?
The three builds you mentioned are all pretty easy to play and are all really good for duels.
I know some of them are easy to play. Heck, I had 0 hours played on my ranger (it is level 3 in PvE, I left him in LA after finishing the first story mission) and still did pretty good with a fotm build – although it’s really boring so I doubt I will play it again.
Still, I want to know more about this. I have fun in winning 1v1s – I would rather lose the match than losing a 1v1 so it is a no brainer that I have to pick a build oriented to deal with a single opponent. Unfortunately, not many builds are available to thieves or mesmers nowadays (tried shatter but it just doesn’t kill things as fast and as safely as phantams, and having only 1 condition removal on 15-20s cooldown is a pain).
So, am I doing something wrong here?
I build my toons around 1v1. I win them. Then get QQ. And when the match ends I’m even more a noob because of my low rank.
If you are having trouble being called a noob, perhaps the internet isn’t right for you.
I’m not having any kind of problem – I like winning, and their QQs only please me. But so far I’ve met more complainers here than in any other game. And believe me when I say I have played a LOT of games competitively.
Ok, this is mostly a rant thread, but I would like to know if everyone here has the same attitude as the people I meet in spvp.
Disclaimer: I am a “noob” at spvp: that is, I don’t know anything about how to play the conquest game. The only thing I can do (and I am completely average at that) is 1v1ing, because that’s what I do in WvW and in duel servers (which is the only spvp gametype I actually do).
So, it’s been 7 days. Sick of all the queues of WvW, I started doing some sPvP recently, mostly hotjoin because I want to learn how to play before going in solo queue.
Being an active user in these forums I know already of the “meta” classes I can find – so I wanted to try one of those at first.
In order, I tried: S/D thief (I use D/P in WvW and S/P too before the nerf); then moved on to spirit ranger, and ended with a hybrid Phantasm mesmer of my creation, just because I wanted to try it.
Everytime I won a “duel” (that is, a fight without anyone else interfering) with another player, regardless of the class I was using, I was called a “noob”. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I mean, seriously, what the hell? Why do YOU (and I am referring to spvpers, I know most people in hotjoin barely know how to play) have to complain and call the guy who killed you a “noob” just because you lost a proper fight?
“Noob thief ", “noob mesmer”, “noob ranger”, “AI carried”, “evade spam”, “you only know how to run”, “omg rank 12 nooooooooooob”.
Why do everyone act like this?
Of course I don’t feel anything when I am being called a noob after winning a fight, and usually troll my opponent in mapchat just because. But I can’t ignore the fact that this thing happens EVERY TIME, and it’s annoying after a while.
Do people act like this even in solo queue? Is the spvp side of GW2 all like this? Do people call others “noobs” just because they are wearing the default equipment?
roles like this don´t exsist. You can´t just say -> I would like to fit these roles and make a build to fill them.
real roles are:
hammer longbow warrior
s/d thief
bunker guard
terror necro
spirit ranger
shatter mesmerso if you try anything else, one of those builds above can do your job better, so you rather pick one of the listed builds and see in what roles you can use them.
The current trait system pigeonholes classes and does not allow for diversity cause you have to follow the synergies and op traits in the traitlines and you can´t balance traits without affecting other builds. A system where you choose your role/playstyle first and then get access to some trait choices is much better.
Sorry for hijacking this thread. I was really interested in what the OP posted, but sadly the discussion took a different route and will not be what I wanted anymore.
However, I’d like to know these things, since I’ve just started playing sPvP (I had a lot of fun in hotjoin though):
Of the characters you mentioned, what are their SUPPOSED roles?
I know that everything must be done according to the situation and that a player must learn to adapt.
I know already that the bunker guard is supposed to hold the mid point.
S/D thieves (or D/P ones) can reliably land a huge burst of damage while keeping a moderate defense – so they make for great roamers: they are supposed to roam from point to point, pick targets who are at low health and keep pressure on them, keeping the point safe.
What about other roles? Why is spirit ranger that op? What can HE do that another class/build cannot?
Assuming everything is going smoothly, which class has to focus on the close point? And which one must focus on the far point?
I really want to know this, because I want to learn how to improve myself and I always end up wandering around in the map, getting killed if there are 2 or more enemies, winning my 1v1s and stuff – and I can do this with almost any class. That’s why I would like to know more about this.
Haha hihey
Just had a fight with you in Spvp ;D
To bad my Q poped for solo tourneyHow you like my S/D build?
(p new to it)
Lolwut?
I always look for known guild tags when I have fun in hotjoin with my mesmer. So far I’ve met a VcY (nick: Forzi) and a Mya (don’t remember the nick, started with B I think and was a mesmer). But didn’t see anyone from FURY :O
What map did we play on?
And what class do you play anyway? S/D could be both Ele or Thief
Just an information from a former WSR: how long are the queues in T9 during prime time? What’s the situation from a roamer perspective?
I don’t really have much time to play around and having to wait 60+ minutes every time I log in is really too much for now. It will cost me a lot, but I COULD think about coming back (at least for a while) to where I began WvW-ing…
why don’t GH just simply have 1 vs 1 fights instead of having to double team all of the time?
The only GH I have seen respect 1 vs 1 fights are members of [TEO]
edit: I lied, now even [TEO] are double teaming me![]()
where’s FURY? they’re the only ones so far (apart from hihey who actually beat me 1 vs 1) that I can get a decent fight out of :L
Could you post some pictures of those [TEO] who ganked you? I’ll try to explain them how to behave when meeting a roamer
Fighting against you was a pleasure, I look forward to our next matchup against AG just to fight with you again, unfortunately I have a lot of issues IRL so I can’t play that much nowadays
http://i.imgur.com/J8xY9O4.jpg
perfect picture were u can see 23 WBC people, in addition there is another thief out of the picture on the left side, which equals 24, and if the mesmer is having 3 clones up, which is very unlikely, they’ll be atleast 21.
6min and 2s for those that want to see.
Think this will be my last words in this case
Actually I count 22 people in there, with the thief not showed in the image being 23 This non accounting possible “beasts” (such as Thieves from Thieves Guild or Pets – and knowing WBC it is highly possible that their team had a Ranger inside) or Clones, as I used the red names on top of their heads to make up my counting.
But yeah, having the video from WBC would make this clear once and for all
Woah, WBC, just woah…. think you should rename that chilling with something else in your guild name!
Did you check video yet?
Good fights.Yeah, counting 21-22 of you every single time in second round
pretty sure I’m missing one of the two theifs you had aswell.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEvnKpMEIrc
In all honesty how could you even COUNT the people in that train? It’s so messy I doubt you could do a proper counting.
Im already there if anyone wants to come
If anyone is interested in some duels, let’s meet at 8PM UTC @ Miller’s Windmill.
I’ll try to be there, if queues allow me to enter the border ^^
It looks like the warrior meta has reached AG too. Now every D/P thief became a hammertrain warrior
Been fighting over SM for 90 minutes, had to empty my bags 3 times and got 4 ranks in the fight. The only thing I was even able to do was pressing 1 with my staff because nothing, and I mean NOTHING, worked.
this is a good week to be a roamer, it’s an even better week to stalk FURY…
P.S. hiding doesn’t work on me
What about a duel on Tuesday evening, 8PM UTC, Miller’s Sound mill? I’ll be using my mesmer
Best way to end a pleasant night: having a few duels in MS bl (my respect for German players is skyrocketing), then switching to Ele and aiding in the successful defense of SM (AG night blob is really weak when properly engaged).
Big shoutout to the Dagger/Dagger asura Ele from VcY (ranked Bronze something) who has been waiting for me on the Vista in our keep in EB: our whole zerg /laughed after you got knocked back (and died) by my Gust. It was, like, the first time I killed someone like that. Was extremely satisfying, do it again please
Ty for the fight Inc,Rage,Teo,NO,NA, Mya good fun in Miller border.
Best lag moment out of garrison with Inc and Teo on us an i was like pressing skill and i think for 30 second we didn’t do any damage to you or you to us, was pretty lol!
Dawn it’s looking for Gvg 15v15!
Man, that was awful. I was calling out my waterfields everytime but they didn’t come out
Tried to put out a Static every now and then but it was all worthless. Then I started spamming 1, at least that seemed to work :/
Anyway, I’d say that this is the first time I saw a queue on all 4 maps in GH. Never happened before, I hope all of those pugs will stop playing asap, as they’re taking valuable slots for guilds: by the time we managed to get all in the same BL, there were already people leaving because it was late.
(edited by hihey.1075)
And there I am, waiting in LA for a queue to pop up
Good luck everyone! Let’s rock!
FSP weaknesses are no different than the ones of any other server in the league. But, thing is, FSP will most likely have all 4 zones FULL during prime time on EVERY DAY, a feat which only Abaddon and MAYBE Desolation currently have. I have never seen more than 2 zones in queue on GH, even in prime time.
Also, if Kale and PunK keep working together as a single unit (even if they do not stack all the times) like you did in our previous matchup, no guild from any SilverLeague server will be able to hold it unless they blob up with another group of people – thing that many guilds refuse to do, as when “normal” guilds see nearly 50-60 people fighting together they will usually pick another route after being wiped.
So yes, FSP is way stronger than GH at the moment. I’d say they will be fighting for the 3rd place.
VII moved from Piken to Aurora Glade.
Is this only well known GvG guilds, or any guilds?
XxX moved from Underworld to FSP
APE moved from Underworld to FSP
Then why a lot of APE are currently roaming in GH ranks?
definitly a good dancing night
Haha, props to those VS people who were more Synched with our leader than us
TY Vizunah for ruining a nice evening.
Thanks to all the D/P-Permastealth-Perplexity-Thiefs who emote-spammed me after they ganked me with 4 people.
Really. You pointed out that im bad.Guess im gonna play Thief then. Or a Warrior? Hm..
Something does not add up.
They were D/P… and you got killed because they had perplexity?
Either that confusion did no damage, or their backstabs did no damage.
Hahahahah! Now I really want to see the face you made when you got insta-downed by that
I don’t understand why you’d call us desperate for leaving our realm.. Unless you’re just being mean to us because we finished you one too many times in wvw before we switched
Maybe I used the wrong word. I just wanted to point out the state of WvW in Underworld: if guilds like yours are leaving it means it’s really dying – and that’s really sad.
I mean, I could understand leaving a server because you hate zergs (such as going from a kitten server to a T5-T6), or because you only like smallscale (such as joining Vabbi or the likes), but leaving UW to go to GH is something that no one could have expected a few weeks ago.
I hereby welcome you though, I met a lot of people from APE when we were matched against UW and it was a really good training for my thief (my very first duel in WvW as a thief was against an APE and a GuM iirc)
Recently I saw quite a few people from UW’s guilds roaming in our ranks. Is UW’s population THAT desperate?
I think GH will finish either 4th or 5th. We are good at prime time and we have a decent night capping force. But early morning til afternoon we are really, really weak.
HEaling Signet is banned on most “serious” duel servers (along with some PU stuff for mesmers)
That should say everything about where warriors are in the duelling meta.
No nerf to war.
Brb reroll war.
The mesmer build is… garbage? I’ll totally revise that.
To answer someone’s question, yes: there are 2 [Psy] guilds in GH. One is “Team Psy”, the other being “Order of Intoxication”. Both have really great roamers though.
And I agree with Zumy on the PU/Signet matter: being almost impossible to kill even WHILE dueling is a bit too much(a D/P cannot be killed because he resets the fight, and that is silly but at least you could say that you outplayed him).
I hope Abaddon won’t win the league. I really, REALLY hope so.
