I would say that the only reason we haven’t had any map leaks is because ANet doesn’t want to prepatch the game in the weeks and days leading up to the game going live.

So while we all are waiting hours to play, just remember to blame the dataminers on reddit.

I hate to break it to you, but you can use that online source that loads up map data and look at most of Heart of Thorns right now. People have been doing that for a while. The resources for the release are regularly being pushed out to all of us. I’m sure they’ll finalize some things right before release and it will probably still be a patch, but lots of the data is already on your PC.

Windows 7 Vs. Windows 10 processes

As someone who works in IT and needed to learn it to be able to support it, I’ve been using windows 10 since the first preview release. On hardware that it works properly on it is faster and more efficient than any version of windows that has come before it. I upgraded on my home machine when the release hit with zero concerns, and actually gained an average of 2-3 fps in most of my games. It’s been running with zero problems on my living room HTPC as well, which is an older core duo with one of my old out dated gaming GPUs in it. Much, much faster in the old box than windows 7 was.

That said, I’ve seen machines that for some reason it just doesn’t play well with, no matter what you do to it. Machines that it says are completely compatible and that just do not work like they should. Some of these are upgrades gone wrong, and installing a clean copy of Windows 10 fixes them, but some of them just don’t work, weird pauses and slow downs, strange crashes, etc. In my experience though, after touching more windows 10, both OEM and upgrade machines, than I can rightly count, these problem machines are pretty rare. For the majority windows 10 is a straight upgrade with better memory management, better security, and support for Directx 12.

That’s my experience, take it or leave it. I unhesitatingly told every family member and friend who contacted me and asked about it to take advantage of the upgrade.

Hardly anyone resurrects any of the dead players until the boss goes down in my experience. Also, healing is boring. I really don’t think you have to worry about some huge upscaling with 70% standing back and healing. If I’m wrong? You roll it back and do away with the new mechanics. What in the world would it possibly harm to give it a try? It hardly matters if the worst case scenario happens since the biggest repercussion is that a few world events take longer/fail for the week or so before you revert the changes. It would hardly ruin everything forever.

Question about Ascended vs Legendary

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

imsoenthused.1634

If there ever were a cap increase, I think they’d lose quite a few players, maybe even lots of them. Just my opinion, based on the fact that I would walk away in disgust, but I doubt I’m the only one.

That said, to the OP, legendaries are a complete and total waste of resources and time unless you are in love with one of the skins. The only advantage they have is stat switching, but stat switching is completely useless with out sigil switching as others have mentioned. So the end result is people build their Legendary, then they build alternate ascended weapons with different stats and sigils and apply the Legendary skin to them.
They are, truly, totally cosmetic, and you save yourself a fortune just building ascended from the start if you have a different skin you are happy with.

Game crashes on full server frustration

I was having quite frequent crashes, but I tracked them to two things:

I was leaving chrome open in the background, often with many tabs open. Since I got more observant about what programs I have open and using up memory crashes decreased considerably. Note: This was with windows 10 64 bit and 8 gigs of ram, chrome was sometimes using up monstrous amounts of memory, if you have a 32 bit OS and/or less ram it could be even more severe.

What finally got rid of my crashes though, was using MSI afterburner to set my fan speeds on my video card more aggressively. Nvidia’s default is very conservative and apparently something about that was making GW2 unstable.

So, my system is a little noisier with the faster GPU fans, and I have to remember to close chrome before launching the game, but between those two things my crashes are pretty much completely gone. Might be worth a try for you.

I usually see lots of players go down at any world boss, even the easiest ones. If a few heal specced people keep all the newbies on their feet to enjoy the content without needing a revive afterwords what’s the harm in giving them credit? I’d bet it would actually increase the DPS of the zerg in aggregate. Sure the healers might be doing less damage, but if there are five other players still attacking at the end who would have been taking dirt naps in the first few seconds then the average DPS will probably work out ahead overall.

I’m all for giving event rewards to people in return for using control or support. You can’t go around saying you want rolls other than DPS to be viable if you then only reward DPS.

They won’t be changing the old game, but it’s still an interesting question. The simplest way, imo, would be to speed up the attack interval and attack animations of pretty much every enemy in the game by about twice what it is now and tweak damage down by about 75%, then add more boon and condition usage to them.

Might need to adjust it from there, but that would be my starting point.

Suggestion: Add race change to Makeover Kit

But Anet wont spend the time of course. Its never been about the way they coded it – they can easily recode it if they want to. Its the fact they want you to spend gems on another character slot instead.

So, you say that Anet only want players to buy gems to get things (ie. character slots) from the gem store. If it were truly an act of Anet only wanting player money (and not a coding/other technical issue that they’ve said is the real issue), don’t you think they would have put in a race changer on the gem store for 800+ gems?

Actually, no. Because Anet knows that just a character isnt enough, you’re going to want inventory slots, cosmetics for your new character, maybe be suckered into buying more infinite gathering tools because you are lazy, etc and so on. And that’s not even mentioning the extra gold you put into the character, that you need to farm somewhere (and more players is more buisness). The more characters you have, the deeper they got you hooked.

That is the reason they arent doing it. Not because they cant.

Race should not be an issue, except for cultural armor.

The people who actually know say it is an issue. It’s not like they wouldn’t make an item that would sell in the gem store if they could, especially one that has been requested over and over again for three years like this. If they keep saying it’s not possible, I’m going to have to believe them.

Mounts [merged]

I think mounts should be implemented and have horrible, terrible grindy tamagotchi style mechanics. And no summoning. You actually have to mount and dismount off them, and they’ll wonder off if you don’t tie them up or hobble them. If they’re killed they’ll stay there on that PvE map forever until you get back there and revive them. You’d have to grind out special food for them every day too, or they’d lose health and speed, etc. And play with and praise them just to keep them friendly towards you. Also, they won’t quick travel. Period. You quick travel and your mount stays behind. Hope you remembered to tie it up first, or have fun searching all of whatever region map you left it in. How difficult they are to keep fed and friendly would also be tied directly to how huge and magnificent they are. A horse would be just barely, a tiny bit of a terrible experience, but any of the really enormous or ludicrous ones would be absolute nightmares. “Goodnight guys, I’d go to bed too but I need like five more of these rare crystalline tears from a level 75 fractal to make sure my Pegasus doesn’t run away or attack me on sight tomorrow. Ya it’s about three hours of grinding per day, but look how special I am! Well, no you can’t actually look, I fast traveled here and he’s over in Brisbane Wildlands right now, but trust me, I’m incredibly impressive riding him”.

If I was Anet, I’d make mounts just like this, and then fall asleep every night giggling with glee.

well you know if rich people dont’ want to pay for extra sets. I dont’ know why poor people need to do it.

I think that’s where the dilemma come from.

But one thing is for sure, if anet is going to push people to using multiple sets, it became really annoying “and expensive” to get multiple sets and carry them around.

That ignores just how expensive the one item replacement for the set is. You can quite easily get multiple ascended weapons for the price of one legendary one. Not to mention, lots of people worked hard to get a legendary and aren’t “rich” by any means just because they have one. Anet isn’t pushing anyone to have multiple sets, it’s a choice if you want to run more than one build/setup on that character. What’s the harm in allowing someone to spend 2000 gold and have one weapon they can swap stats on. Should they, after working so much harder for a single weapon than someone who just went for ascended, be forced to turn around a make another ascended weapon in order to run an alternate build? Just because Anet decided to stop half way when implementing customizable stats? In the time it takes someone to grind for that single legendary, another player could already have three or four different ascended weapons with identical stats and different sigils for different situations. It’s not a case of giving legendaries some huge advantage. More a case of parity for the amount of investment required.

I hope you didn’t take my post as mean spirited in any way. It’s just that there have been complaints about the lack of a quality elites for elementalists since release. Well, the lack of quality elites in general, but especially for elementalists, and then even more so for their only underwater skill “choice” if you can call one option that. If they’d even just open up the elite slot so it could be used for non-elite utilities as well it would be an improvement. But having the other utilities underwater is definitely a huge improvement over just using the weapon. Have fun, and stay frosty.

the point of the stat change was because originally, legendary weapons like exotic, have specific stats, to you would have to transmute it to get the stats you wanted. A net later change it, so you could pick your stats with out having to transmute it. After all, getting one was not easy task. The point of a legendary is not to be able to have one set to rule them all, it’s so you can show off. The stat change was a QoL feature, that’s why they have not added the ability to change sigils already. if you where meant to be able to swap them freely, then they would have added it by now.

As I said, it would make legendary equipment must haves, and that’s not what they are about.

I see your point. I still disagree though. What’s wrong with making legendary equipment more desirable? It’s still going to be much, much more difficult to acquire than simply getting multiple sets of ascended equipment. I’m still going to spend the same amount acquiring the sigils/runes to unlock those options for that piece as I would putting them on separate setups. You could swap builds without manually swapping out armor and weapons in your bags, but you’d still have to change the stats and sigils on each piece of gear. Just as time consuming. Really, the only advantage would be less transmute charges used, and less storage space. It wouldn’t be must have because, for game play purposes, having multiple sets of ascended would do the same thing, just with more clutter.

I could be wrong, but as someone who likes small, graceful, less flashy, more realistic skins it seems to me like making legendaries desirable for something other than the over the top effects and oversized skins would be pretty nifty. Since any actual stat difference would be an abomination, that leaves making them mechanically different/interesting/useful.

I mean, wouldn’t it be cool if you got some benefit from having two Incinerators vs one Incinerator and one ascended dagger transmuted with the Incinerator skin? Other than the AP for the achievement? I think it would.

With HoTs this close to release, I’m pretty sure we’ll be getting some brand new skins that will be 1 ticket. I’m taking a wait and see approach. Chances are pretty good after all that the Halloween skins will roll around again next year, but the HoTs release is a one time event, with potentially rarer/more valuable for resale later rewards. If you really want any of the Halloween skins right now, you should still probably just farm SW and buy them with gold off the TP while the supply is high and the price is low, and hang on to those tickets for just a little bit longer.

As I said, I’d go with the 390 right now if I was buying. If you are only concerned with current gen titles, it really makes very little difference, but if you are at all concerned for the future either buy the AMD or wait for Nvidia to put out a card that will do asynch computing. Also, the 970 has this weird issue with using more than 3.5 gb of its 4 gb memory, which will only get more pronounced as texture fidelity continues to increase. You can get the 390 with 8gb of ddr5 and a 512 bit interface instead of the 256 bit interface in the 970 at a competitive price.

I’ve been a solid fan of Nvidia for years mainly due to their much more mature and feature rich drivers than ATI, but hardware wise they’ve always been second tier, and since AMD purchased ATI their drivers have gotten better and better.

While I agree, it would be a bad idea. it would turn them in to the must have gear. prices for the mats to make them would skyrocket, rune/sigil prices would fall, all this could then have an effect on the gem to gold market. as the gold you’d get would end up not covering the majority of the mats you want to buy with it. this would in turn effect the gold to gem. Not to mention make other gear even more worthless. people will end up not buying exotic gear, as they would be better off saving there gold/mats for the new must have gear.

As the game currently stands, Ascended gear is only really for people who play FotM., or Hard core WvW, the rest of the game Exotic gear is just fine. so there is a market for it, same with the lesser armor, while you level there is a market for it. Not a big one, but one. Add a I can change everything about this item set. and you kill the tie’s below. Ascended would just be junked. Why waste time, money and laurels on gear that is now obsolete? Legendary was always meant to be best in slot. The stat swap was a convenience added to it. So if you spent all that time and gold getting it, you would not have to start again if that stat fell out of favor with the game. It was never meant to be the must have items. just something you might want to work towards, a goal. Much like the obsidian armor in GW, It cost crazy money, something like 1000K if you where to buy all the mats. It was the most expensive in the game, but didn’t offer anything better that the 25K armor.

ANet don’t want to add a “gear treadmill” some would argue there already is one. But adding something like rune/sigil swapping would defiantly help make one.

I have to disagree completely. It would do away with the current treadmill of having to craft multiple ascended sets even if you own a legendary, because swapping the stats when you change a build is pointless if you can’t swap the runes/sigils as well.

As it is, legendaries have a really interesting mechanic that nobody uses. Nobody is going to overwrite their expensive runes/sigils to go from a power to a condi build, so instead they grind out an entirely different ascended/exotic weapon, and soon armor, instead, and just apply the legendary skin to it. Not to mention, if you think most of the legendary weapons look like over sized joke weapons, the one reason that you might be interested in crafting it becomes an instant no go.

It’s a very nice feature for true BiS equipment, but in it’s current state it might as well not exist. It’s just another ascended with a ludicrous(purely subjective) skin and more particle effects.

So, OP, the answer seems pretty plain. Ask their parents.

Honestly, isn’t that the way it should be? I remember when I was a kid having my dad march in to the local library and tear in to the librarian for attempting to censor what books I could check out. I was eight years old, I couldn’t have an “adult” library card without him acquiring it for me, had no way of getting to the library without him to take me there, and as a responsible parent it was his job and pleasure to review every book selection I made. Beyond the warnings he had to agree to so I could have an unrestricted library card in the first place it was simply none of her business. That was his responsibility.

Legendary gear really really really needs to hold every rune/sigil/whateva in it, and you can choose from the list while ooc, like the stats. Of course you have to add them to the legend first, but after that you should be able to switch between them.

They are legendary items. This needs to happen.

Yes, until legendary stat swapping includes sigil swapping it remains a fairly pointless feature. This has needed to happen since stat swapping became a thing. People should have to apply them to unlock them, but after that switching between the should be effortless.

Oh, and don’t waste money on any bags but the Halloween bags, and you may want to wait for the Halloween event to go in to full swing and stock pile them then for pretty much nothing but playing the event. It’s a great way to max out your characters storage space.

Frankly, I just don’t feel like rewarding Nvidia for their behavior lately, so I’m going to protest with my wallet.

If you plan on playing anything other than GW2 on your rig, don’t waste your money on an Nvidia card right now, since they don’t actually fully support directx 12. Might as well go for a high end AMD and actually get what you are promised.

Edit: the 900 series are all DX12 ready wha…

Nope. As a former Nvidia fan boy, I’m here to tell you they straight up lied to everybody and only support some directx 12 features in software, on your CPU. AMD on the other hand actually supports directx 12 in hardware. The full feature set.

Nvidia cards can’t do asynchronous computing, and yet they print lies on the boxes of their product claiming full directx 12 support and didn’t come clean until they got caught with their crap performance in the first Ashes of the Singularity dx12 benchmark.

I won’t be buying my next video card from them. I’m sure they’ll have cludged together some form of support for it by their next major release in 2016 if you just absolutely feel you have to have an Nvidia card, but I’m not doing business with them anymore. Between the weird memory issues with the 970s and now this business, I’m ready to give AMD a shot at my money.

I don’t like it, and believe Anet shouldn’t have allowed it, but since they have I live with it. I would like to see it get its own slot or an option to filter it out in the LFG tool. That seems like the right way to go in its current state. The people involved in it on both sides would still have access and those of us who find it distasteful wouldn’t have to see it every time we opened the LFG tool.

It would be nice for me. I just have one of each profession, but I’d love to reliably KNOW where that profession is on the list, without having to search for the one I want.

A plea from an old AP hunter.

For me, no longer having AP from doing the dailies would remove a big incentive to do them.

This is something I just don’t get. The dailies are tied to activities in the game, you get the daily just by playing. So are you trying to say that once you won’t get the AP for this, you just won’t enjoy the content?

I’ll do content. I won’t do dailies.

Honestly, kind of how I feel since the last daily change already. I don’t do them nearly as often as I used too, and when I am motivated it’s really just for the AP, and usually if I have already done one or two thirds by “accident”. It went from something fun that barely changed how I want to play to an inconvenience. If they took away the AP I seriously would ignore them completely.

Defiance has needed to go away since it was first brainstormed as an idea… Other than that, we wait for raids and hope it makes other, non DPS centered play styles something other than a pointless amusement.

I don’t intend this to sound harsh, and I fully believe you “should” in a perfect world be free to play the game without any of that nonsense. That said, welcome to the internet? The best way to handle this is to report them for abuse, place them on ignore, and move on without letting them ruin your day. People get really ugly when they can hide behind an internet persona without real world repercussions for their craptastic actions. Arenanet is pretty good about smacking people like that down, but it’s not instant. Just report, ignore, and move on. Don’t let the trolls win.

Mixing attributes, good or bad?

You see some mixing in WvW. In PvE it’s pretty much all berserker all the time, and PvP has it’s own system.

The new raids coming in the expansion are supposed to make other builds more viable/necessary, but we’re all waiting to see how that turns out.

If you plan on playing anything other than GW2 on your rig, don’t waste your money on an Nvidia card right now, since they don’t actually fully support directx 12. Might as well go for a high end AMD and actually get what you are promised.

bank tabs
bank material expansion
copper fed salvage o matic
watchwork mining pick, as one of only two ways in the game to get sprockets it’s the only permenant collecting tool that I’d rate as really valuable in the long run.

other than those, I’d say it’s all pretty much just personal preference. Personally, I wouldn’t waste gems on character storage tabs though, much cheaper to just buy another character slot and use them as a mule.

Basic Ui Modifications, Are they Allowed?

Thousands of us have literally been using ICM since it was released two years ago with not a single ban being reported. Not. One. Single. Ban. Anet has said they were neutral to it specifically, and in general to any mod that doesn’t give a clear advantage to those using it.

This will be my only post on the subject, I’m not arguing with the screaming haters that show up every time this subject is brought up. Use it or not as you decide, but I will tell you it is phenomenal and that I would not play GW2 without it, even if it does make AoE skills more difficult to use.

For the record, here is Anet’s actual official stance on 3rd party mods, as opposed to the knee jerk “you gonna get banned” statement you’ll get from so many players:

Conclusion: DH is the weakest Elite Spec?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: imsoenthused.1634

imsoenthused.1634

Yes it’s definitely the weakest. It is extraordinarily clunky also. On Longbow your character does not turn to shoot your target if your target is anywhere beyond a 90° cone in your vision.

They were actually experimenting with some new targeting code during the BWE. This has since been removed so it should now behave like any other ranged class. Just an FYI. Doesn’t change your other points any.

The point is, the tagging rarely gets you more than bronze participation due to the decreased/negligible damage of such builds. This obviously needs to be re-considered to make it viable outside of raids.

Maybe it’s time to rework how reward scoring works for EVERYONE who heals. Make support a more viable option for any class. Do the same for control type skills instead of going off of nothing but damage. It would solve any issues with druid and also open up the viability of builds for other classes. I mean, if I feel like following world bosses around the map as a healing specialized elementalist spamming heals on people, shouldn’t that be a viable option and result in rewards, even if it’s not strictly “needed”.
