[PvP] Condi Build [Ma/Sw, Sw/Sh]

in Warrior

Posted by: jadaniel.4910

jadaniel.4910

Hi,

Hey guys
I’m currently theorycrafting a condi build for pvp with Sword/Shield, Mace/Sword

Amulet: Celestial
Sigils: Doom/Leeching [on Sw/Sh], Energy/Geomancy [on Ma/Sw]
Rune: not sure, going for Nightmare atm, maybe Krait?

Healing Signet, triple Stance, Rampage

So currently I am not sure about my rune choice and my traits.
I found the following possible trait distributions:
Offensive 11001
Defensive Arms 01101
Defensive Strength 10101

What would you recommend?

I’d go with the Defensive Strength approach, possibly:

  • Using Defy Pain instead of Sundering Mace,
  • Using another interrupt instead of Endure Pain (a physical skill or Fear Me),
  • Using the runes of the Guardian,
  • Giving up Celestial for Rabid. I’m not sure Celestial is a good choice since you may not be stacking might efficiently, and don’t have enhanced might duration. Rabid would maximize your condition damage, and let you take more hits (thus optimizing Cleansing Ire). You’d feel more at ease using an additional interrupt instead of Endure Pain, and could use on-crit sigils (earth, torment) as well.

Regards.

Thanks for the tips!

  • Now that Vulnerability does also affect condition damage I feel like that may be kind of useful, especially as it also gives me another cover condition…
  • … but especially as i dont use Endure Pain then (true, completely forgot me using fear me pre patch) I will try it out
  • Guardian Runes, never thought of that on warr, thanks!
  • I feel like I could use on-crit-sigils with celestial anyway as i will have ~25% crit chance… also, rampage will deal more damage with cele and the extra healing power would help. true though that it may work good/better with rabid, gonna have to try and consider that

I’d agree celestial is a good hybrid base amulet and I wouldn’t use it for condi. You have too much ferocity/healing power not real useful and therefor a loss incondi-duration/damage. I would argue for kraits for the rune however. Bleeds will be your main source of condi. If you go distracting shots then confusion is your secondary. So keep that in mind. idk if a fear me is worth taking over endure pain. Fear me/physicals can be removed endure pain cannot <survival option tbh> Crit sigils are weird. I never liked them. I’d go for geomancy and doom for both sets.

I know pre-patch I could 12k+ crit lights (this might have been in wvw with some foods i dont remember too much just vague numbers) with evisc with zerker amulet. I haven’t played a/a in a long time. However, I do use evisc. This looks pretty fun. Have you tried zerkers instead? Seeing you went for physical trait Id take out stomp and do bull charge. Air/fire can be good here but I imagine its true potential is during the whirl. Maybe switch out air/fire for intel/leech (all cool kids use it :P). If you’re really ballsy you can switch out LB for GS for some more burst and mobility.

Edit: Looking at your traits – I love brawler’s recovery, but if you don’t switch out a lot can be useless but bad habit. Also, i recommend taking warrior sprint instead of vengence. AND if you really want to switch to zerker fury and take rampage

Insta cast heal skills are a little overpowered. I imagine to keep ‘balance’ in mind i believe heal skills in general have casting times. Maybe he has to continually shout to get the heal? Like in Skyrim charging muh shoutz. As to why it doesn’t support trooper runes but it does support shout traits is a solid question of intended functionality or not. I would like to know myself.

Countering mesmers in WvW

in Warrior

Posted by: jadaniel.4910

jadaniel.4910

So far, the most common power mesmers I’ve fought were using templates based on Domination, Dueling and Chaos, and using utilities such as Blink, Decoy, Mantra of Distraction and Mass Invisibility. To beat them is difficult, because they can disengage pretty much as they like, but a warrior still has options to fight.

The main burst involves stealth -> Mirror Blade from afar -> Blink before the hit to maximize the value of rebounds -> Shatter #1 and #2 -> Mind Stab. There are other shatter combos, some of the most powerful involving Sword #3 (with an immobilization), but that one is the most used.

Basically, I’d say that a warrior needs to be able to:

  • Mitigate a burst. Dodge or GS #3 (the Mirror Blade may be a hint of an incoming shatter), or resist with an Endure Pain or a block. When stunned, consider breaking from stun if you see illusions running to you.
  • Pay attention to positioning and leverage power/mobility against illusions. Kill phantasms and clones ASAP, don’t stay in the midst of them.
  • Manage CDs. When your Endure Pain and Balanced Stance (or Dolyak Signet) are on CD, you know you’ve become vulnerable. If the mesmer hasn’t shattered yet, go away. If he has, fight but kite. Stability is quite useful, but can be debuffed by the mesmer.

If you’re running condition, then the fight will be easier, because such mesmers don’t have any condition cleansing. None. A Pin Down or Impale will be eaten to the end. If they replace the Mantra of Distraction by the Mantra of Resolve, they’re better condition-wise, but far from being able to resist a condition burst.

I don’t have found a lot of condition mesmers so far, but I suppose they are as dangerous as they ever were, although now more focused on shatter than before (bringing confusion and torment each time they shatter). Your best bet, as with any condition foes, is using the Berserker’s Stance and the Resistance of the Healing Signet, not immediately in the fight, but soon enough. If the opponent manages your CDs better than you do, then don’t bother to fight and go away, they’ll grind you to death.

In any case, the warrior is weak to kiting, and the mesmer is strong at kiting – the matchup isn’t in the warrior’s favor to begin with. Compensating with mobility and aggression helps a bit, but may not be enough.

Kudos. Mesmer is warriors counter like guardian is to thief. It is what it is. Learn their counters learn their weaknesses. Know your counters know your weaknesses. Play accordingly.

One huge benefit this gave rampage warriors is that assuming you aren’t moaed you pop your signet get 6 secs of resistance and then rampage. This wombo combo makes rampage so ridiculous. The cool down on the sig will be done by the time you finish rampaging. For me rampage is a pretty big nail me with condi plz and can help save you from huge condi bursts. And the fact you don’t get healing signet benefits while rampaging makes it even more reason to use it.

Good dueling build?

jadaniel.4910

^^^^ I agree with this guy 100%.

currently warr don’t have enough dmg or sustain to deal with those that knows how to play ( tpvp ).

Usually when i fight any warr … if you drag it out, kite them they will wear down eventually.

the class is still playable but it’s not 1v1 hero anymore

I think they need to bring back DMG from hammer , axe , bow that they nerfed a long time ago…

TBH more damage won’t help Warriors in the game’s current state. We’re still the most telegraphed class in the game. Even right now, our damage is quite high but if we don’t land those hits, it won’t matter at all. This is further exemplified by the fact that there is an abundance of blinds now more than ever. Blinding Ashes, Shatter blind, Guardians, and Thief in general make attempting to use skills so god kitten frustrating.

Telegraphed is a great point made here. I refuse to use hammer in pvp against other player v player veterans. The telegraphed skills like that are way too easy to predict.

However, the only class I’ve had issues with dueling are mesmers/engis. The build I use is M/S GS. I think Arms, defense, discipline. With Stun sigil, int sigil on both, and doom. I find crusader amulet better than cele with this build 22k health pool isn’t a problem with proper non-facerolling techniques. Such as timing blocks with projectiles. Dodging unblockables. Use defy and zerker stance with yak runes and yak signet. If you time the skull crack with the GS with proper traits you can half life most classes. Of course burn their stabs and such.

General play – Avoid being kited with GS. Rampage when under burst pressure. Chase them down while in rampage to burn their cc recoveries burn their heal. After rampage or just starting switch to M/S anticipating counter attack -block/Dodge. Counter stun when appropriate and build adrenaline. When its full – the hardest part imo is landing skull crack. Once you land it switch HB – if they move cancel with auto attack, chase them and do some autos and spin to wins and switch back for another SC set-up. If you can continue CC pressure and dodge/block you’ll do just fine.

Final notes: Mesmers/Engis are generally annoying any other class can be well countered with this if you DO NOT spam skills. Wait for opportunities to attack and counterattack and stun to get some autos and then burst. Watch for set-up skills like Warriors Earthquake – counter with a block or watch for Ele’s DD rotation and just interrupt during key points such as soon as they go into earth or water and just stun.

Buddy of mine and I have been talking about the novelty of lore in Guild Wars’ history and the lack of non-speculative information about the rise of power for the 6 deities that brought humans to Tyria. Even in GW1 their involvement aside from ‘Favor of the Gods’ has been anything but existent. Really the only spec you see is the Dervish’s avatars. Even then the only other time you hear about them is when an NPC is about to die or helplessly lost their kitten. Otherwise it’s almost as if the novelty of having the deities was already over before the time of GW2.

Following up with general curiosity and a neat idea would be do the samething ANet has actually done before. Follow the footsteps, even play, the rise of power of Melandru, Balth, Dwayna, Lyssa, Grenth, and Aba in becoming the deities they are now. Those who played GW1 remember Spoiler...ol' Kormir becoming oneso it seems that the gods may actually have a story behind them other than they are and always have been. They did this with the few buy-able contents for some of the past heroes in GW1 and they’ve revisited the idea in GW2 with Spoiler...Caith and finding her memories.. Something to think about in far future since there already is HoT on its merry way. So the idea wouldn’t be too far-fetched and they seem to like doing it. Even as filler.

Not suggesting it replace any other popular content nor am I begging ANet to do it, but curious what the forums think and maybe add/take a little from the idea. Just for the sake of conversation if anything.

Are Warriors the worst 1v1 class now?

in Warrior

Posted by: jadaniel.4910

jadaniel.4910

Only two classes I have a hard time with consistently so far in a true 1v1 in PvP. That’d be the infamous 1200 range mesmer shatter and the burn guard build that seems to be popular. Any other match up I found to be pretty close or one-sided. I guess just learn your counters, builds, and try new amulets and avoid fights you can’t win.

Haven’t had this experience . I agree making builds from ground up in a new set-up is challenging, but maybe taking a break and coming back to it would help? Granted it took me 6 amazing failures of making builds, switching amulets, weapons, runes, and sigils before I found a pretty good build. Here are some things I thought about that lead me to my current build.

1) I started with general concept goal. -What do I want to run what is the playstyle even? For me it was a sustainable anti-condi high CC build.
2) What amulet should I choose? -This part is tricky based on my previous statement I ended up going with crusader in PvP
3) What weapons fit this playstyle? – I found GS and M/S to be amazing! High CC amazing defensive capabilities allowing a massive burst with the skullcrack/HB combo. Some other thing can be done, but don’t want to spoil gameplay.
4) What runes? -I found that I didnt have enough regen so went yaks for more tankability – since i dont need to stack might <plenty of power from amulet stats>
5) What sigil? – Shields obvious paralyzation mace i went with doom cuz poison gs went with int and something else i cant remember
6) What utilities? – So far i found Berzerk endure and yak sig to be the best for me. These together make warrior an amazing jack of all trades imo. Lastly the elite is up to you.
7) Finally what trait lines compliment the previous five statements: this is what I came up with – Read through the traits and you may see some nice synergy going on with runes, amulet, weapons and overall playstyle.
http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AggDWAJUBbg~
EDIT: This also works the minor traits pretty kittenty but still ok- http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AggDWAGoBbg~
Note: I can’t remember what I did for the mid trait line I think it was arms, but really the other two are a little less viable because some of minor traits are useless for me. The other two lines i had I found necessary for the build.

For some people, forking out $100 may not be much. For others, it could mean half a month’s wage. For some people used with WoW or other greedy companies, this may seem normal. For others, used with ANet’s old business (with literally tons of content/addon and quality) this is kittening frustrating.

Do you know that GW1 used to have just as many char slots as it had classes? Or that each addon on came with roughly the same play time worth of content (either full continent or a plethora of instances?) and that the only exp that didn’t feature new classes was actually cheaper at launch than the rest of its predecessors?

Good for you being able to afford it without actually caring what you’re tossing the money on, and how much value you’re getting in return. Your kind of behavior encourages these types of cheats from the publishers and the continued decrease in overall game quality in favor of game bling-blings.

What would Dave Ramsey say?

As a base player since GW2 beta and even since GW1 way back I get it. Gotta keep in mind it’s a business. Businesses gotta make the money right? Besides what makes something worth one thing to one person and nothing to someone else is pretty arbitrary.

I think it’s worth the 50$ not because of the hype, but because I’ve legitimately been excited with the new elite specs, the rev, the new content, and the fact Anet has actually done something rather than filler! I expect this isn’t enough justification to spend 50$ on some 1’s and 0’s and for something they’ve already spent 50$, but for me what else would I spend this 50$ on? Other indy games that go on sale in steam that will take up memory? 50 red box movies? 50 1-dollar toys? 10 weapon skins they’d release?

So, for me the ability to re-experience a game I genuinely enjoy I would pay 50$ and then some to support it, and play. -I’m entitled to my opinion.

Not invalidating feelings, but if someone feels the ~30$ dollars difference loss and the feeling of utter ‘betrayal’ then they’re entitled to their feelings and nothing more. I’ll see y’all in HoT Beta!

Not everyone on the internet is capable of expressing themselves through logic and language effectively or succinctly. In fact, most people aren’t regardless of the medium. It becomes harder to truly comprehend a person the more you focus on these things.

This is a good example, by focusing on the treadmill semantics you miss, marginalize, and/or obfuscate the core of many players frustrations with the relevant portion of GW2’s direction.

It takes almost no context or logic to realize that people complaining about treadmills are simply expressing their dissatisfaction with increasing the pressure on them to stat grind, which is not an expectation they, rightfully IMO, had for GW2.

That’s the point of the post is to do those things. I don’t really see how people’s feelings in a particular way about something affects a definition for something else. I understand that it impacts their opinion about it, but I’m asking for like you said logical approach. If someone can’t brig themselves to think that way I don’t fault them or invalidate their feelings. I’m interested in what ‘gear treadmill’ meant in the context of Ascended gear regarding the recent patch notes. Anything else is out of the scope of this post.

Exotics where in the game the day I bought it, not ascended :o If ANet had added Exotics suddenly in a patch, you would be completely in your right to complain.

I wouldn’t say this is an invalid feeling, but I wouldn’t use it to justify it as a treadmill. Seems more perspective than anything. Realistically, aside from FotM, you aren’t required to have the armor to play the game.

I’ve been skimming through recent posts regarding ascended gear and the patch notes for June 23rd. If you haven’t already guessed I’d like to get a better perspective on the meaning of gear treadmill as it relates to the previously mentioned topics. Doing a bit of looking around. I’ve read claims about how the 5%-10% gap increase between exotic and ascended is making the transition of armor a ‘treadmill’.

Not big on buzzwords I looked around wiki and google for a decent definition. Couldn’t really find one that was widely accepted. However, I did find some material that I feel could help shed some light on what a ‘gear treadmill’ is, to some agreeable point, and thus see if the claim ’GW2 armor progression is that of a gear treadmill ’.

Currently, I would argue based on a reddit post I found pretty accepted in that communit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/25rz4b/define_gear_treadmill/

and a older, but still relevant AMA from Chris Whiteside here: http://dulfy.net/2012/11/26/gw2-chris-whiteside-ama-on-reddit/

that the claim ‘GW2 armor progression is that of a gear treadmill ’ does not hold: Because ascended armor is not intended to be the end-game armor,-Taken away from interview- does not require any previous rarity of armor and is true for any rarity set of armor -Taken away from the reddit post- and that the percentage gap is not intended nor makes it so that the GW2 player-base in its entirety is encourage to ’grind’ for the gear in order to partake in the majority of the content i.e FotM is the only content that is required to have this gear in order to successfully complete the higher tiers, but even so not required in order to play it at all -taken away from Chris’ interview.

That is what I’ve gathered and understood so far with the information that I have gathered. I am free, as is anyone, to change stance given new information.

Let the debate begin!

I certainly am, when they claim they were sent them directly from Anet, and the notes contain everything else that we already knew to be coming. If this change isn’t true, let it be clarified as incorrect, and everything will be fine. However, I suspect no such correction will be coming.

Outfits are an all or nothing deal by design. Even if the outfit has no helmet, “nothing” is still taking up the outfit helmet slot so to speak. If you mixed/matched outfits and armor, that would make them armor, thus defeating the purpose of outfits. It is a small price to pay to me considering that it does not cost charges to apply/change outfits.

I definitely understand the idea behind it. Especially from a design/implementation standpoint of the developer. I could see the whole conversation between the developer and the product manager.

PM: Hey, let’s make outfits literally an entire outfit hide everything blah blah blah.
Dev: wat.
PM: Yea, the definition of outfit and armor in this context is different so let’s keep it that way during implementation.
