a player by the name of koroshi has a video of his engineer using 6 of these runes, he applies 25 stacks of confusion in literally 3 seconds. He fights a bunker warrior who kills himself simply because he moved and tried to heal himself(?!!?!?) its pretty nuts.

Tie in torment on top of this and you have your “I win no matter what” buttons.

I have small hands so I have steal remapped to R and my heal on a mouse button right at my thumb, makes my gameplay alot more fluid and convenient

so condition builds dont kill an opponent in 3 seconds, sorry but I actually look for fights and WANT my opponent to fight back. I swear some of you backstab thieves act like if we dont hit 11k backstabs we’re practicing withcraft or something. . I win more than my share of fights despite that list. I guess I just fight nothing but “brain dead” players all the time

I run exactly the same trinkets as you do slender and you’re right about the “troll aspect”. its good times

nearlight, you can buy settlers trinkets on the trading post, the trade off is basically more toughness and armour for less condition damage and vitality but with food and stacks this could vary

hi. I have a level 38 elementalist and have been trying to make a plan for when she hits 80 with gear and stuff. I’ve been using power/precision daggers, toughness/vitality armour and power/precision jewelry while leveling.

I’ve been toying around with the calculator and the problem seems to be finding a nice middle ground between toughness, damage and health. I plan to play world verses world and I do not want to be a glass cannon so I’m curious what numbers you level 80 elementalists tend to focus on more than others as well as what foods you recommend for a dagger dagger build.

Make Venoms work like Mantras

Was thinking the other day about how venoms could be reworked. Venoms instead of being a utility could function on a skill bar consisting of f2-f4 so that would give you 3 available venoms to choose from to apply to your next attack(s) without using a utility slot. However, in theory it sounds like something that would make sense and of course would still have a cooldown but it still might be a bit on the over powered side.

This is why venoms are a bit of a problem and underwhelming, you’re giving up much, much better utilities to make any use of them consistently.

I run a somewhat similar build. but I have 30 in shadow arts, 20 in trickery and 20 in acrobatics. Withdraw as your healing utility is interesting but I personally prefer signet of malice with a condition build, especially having 2 apothecary rings and apothecary amulet, healing power sits around 610 or so and over all condition damage is about 1325.

I would like to apologize for this too, its pathetic. Though, this kind of crap has been far more rampant from isle of janthir and devonas rest than I’ve seen from darkhaven..and perhaps my server is just as guilty. Myself and 2 others fought a group of 8 devonas rest at south camp and had wiped them previously about 3 times, We eventually lost the fight because this group had the backing of upgraded npcs yet we still downed 5 of them. So what did they do next? proceeded to laugh and corpse jump all of us as if they had actually accomplished something.

Laughing and mocking because you have greater numbers doesnt make you a good player, it just demonstrates how much growing up you still have to do.

Same problems. Massive culling, players and structures not even rendering until I’m right next to them, entire landscapes just disappearing, 5-6 second skill lag. I have a decent machine and none of these things were occuring before this new event went live.

I was in the river by south camp last night and every detail, object and creature disappeared and I was stuck in place until I waypointed. freezing up in a tower and 20 seconds later Im dead without even seeing anything happen because the 10 players beating on me didnt even render on my screen.

I remember when this game came out and reading the official game guide in which permanent stealth was called a “ludicrous crutch”, I laughed a bit and assumed the developers were also players who never could learn to fight a class with this sort of mechanic and their only way of getting even was to take it away from them. a year later I’ve definitely changed my tune.

Not sitting in stealth until you choose to break it makes you a better player, makes you have to be aware of whats going on all the time, your fights are more strategic, more tactical. Coming from a game that has permanent stealth (no, not wow) I too was really put off that I did not have this ability however, you can stealth yourself every 4 seconds in combat so I guess whats the difference really?

I’ve come to really like how stealth was implemented, or, how it was -intended- to be implemented in guild wars 2.

Come back and give it a chance Nausiation, You might be surprised.

the other “tankier” thief builds would be sword/dagger, condition dagger/dagger or condition pistol dagger, though with the condition builds you’d need new gear entirely. Perhaps try sword dagger, with the amount of evades, stuns, and teleports it’d be a bit different but still possessing the same style and mobility you’re used to

Fortus.6175, I’m going to actually have the audacity to agree with you on alot of the points you bring up, I came from a game (lord of the rings online) that had permanent stealth until I engaged in combat and only had one in-combat-stealth on a 45 minute cooldown, any damage whatsoever be it aoe, bleed, etc that was on me when i used this broke my stealth. It is how I feel it should be in this game as well, however, Our access to mobility outside of stealth is how we stay alive and compete. if you take this away from us …well…

Warriors – No longer allowed to use shield, mace, rifle, hundred blades, adrenaline, or any other damage source.

Necromancers – No longer allowed to use death shroud, conditions, wells, or life leeching. oh, and minions, cant forget minions. if caught using minions, you will be banned.

Mesmers – Can no longer use phantasms, clones, ports, stealths, or confusion

engineers – No longer allowed to use flame throwers, grenades, bombs, gunk and especially healing turrets

Rangers – Can no longer use pets, signets, bows, axes or anything else they deem competitive.

Guardian – Retaliation has been removed from the game and all guardians are required to stand still and do nothing when another player starts beating on them.

Elementalist – You are now nothing but a support healer

see where this is going? I’m not being condescending or behaving like a “troll” in anyway, this is honestly what would have to happen.

I do not condone cheating in any way shape or form so players from darkhaven caught “red handed” does not represent the entire server. Seriously please stop just lumping an entire server along side those players that choose to play dishonestly. I play on darkhaven and I do not use cheats or exploits of any kind.

These accusations are obviously directed at a parcticular guild or guilds but somehow MY guild SE was thrown in there as well. Those screen shots…not a single SE member.

Ironically, I play a thief and have added much more toughness to my build with a rating at about 1457 or so and very strangely I’ve noticed I’ve been getting hit -alot- harder since doing this, and yes, by thieves. The irony huh? i have not given up any vitality in my build either. Something seems a bit off…

bobross, yea, the passive healing from signet of malice and 30 in shadow arts is pretty much a must with this build in my opinion. I love it and would be hard pressed to go back to using hide in shadows.

I just used build editor to see what your build would look like because I had no idea what the undead runes were..gotta tell you I’m quite interested. gonna save some money for a second armour set with the undead runes for sure, thanks for posting that

Do your best to keep them out of range but close enough that you can hit them. they’re going to kite you and kite you alot and when they start coming towards you they’re readying to cloak and dagger so always be ready to dodge/blind/block. good chance they have caltrops so also stay at a safe distance so that you remain mobile and not crippled. (you shouldn’t remain stationary no matter what anyway)

Phantasms and clones actually give them an advantage since they can stealth off of them leaving you open for numerous sneak shots and a very quick stack of bleeds on you. Thieves obviously have numerous ways to stealth but in pistol dagger chances are their only other access to stealth outside of cloak and dagger will be blinding powder.

I dont know much about mesmers so I cant suggest what skills and such to use but I do know stuns/dazes are your friend. I’ve personally only beaten a few mesmers but accept that I dont think they knew how to counter me where as the ones that did simply melted me in a few seconds. I know we’re annoying but we aren’t unkillable. This is really the only advice I can give you, every thief might play this weaponset differently so there is no sure fire “I win buttons” I can offer you.

p.s. I’m no veteran and certainly need to get better myself, only offering my personal advice on how I would counter this if I were another class with an idea on what a pistol dagger thief would be using and how they’re trying to win a fight. Wish I could help you further silvershadez, you arent on storm bluff isle by chance are you?

I’m glad I’m not the only one with this problem. been noticing this alot too where cloak and dagger’s arent landing because of skill lag and when it hits I’ll be stealthed then immediately revealed. also theres been about a 2-3 second delay using sneak shot where I hit this skill and it doesnt fire until Im revealed..so then obviously it isnt even sneak shot anymore. I dont play on the best gaming set up but I have a decent system, this skill lag/revealed bug has only started in the last week.

I really think something is messed up on arenanets end, other players/classes have been saying they’re experiencing the same kind of problems with their character. Last night in world verses world myself and 5 different players on different ends of the map all got the same lag spike, we froze in place for a good 5-10 seconds

you’ll want points in acrobatics, trickery, and shadow arts (deadly arts if you want to make the most of venoms) what you take in those trees is up to you.

scoompoof is right, go the mists and play around with your gear and such, its free to retrait and change your armour/weapons.

Its just a game, seriously who cares? believing that anything that you do in a virtual reality somehow matters is beyond my comprehension. It is one of the few escapes I have to enjoy in my real life so I dont spend it acting like an elitist or entitled jerk, I play it to have fun. If I suck, so be it, I really couldnt care less and I certainly couldnt care less if you dont respect me because my “individual skill” somehow makes me inferior to you. Grow up, Seriously.

I’ve been corpse jumped and /laugh(ed) at by both stormbluff and kaineng players after players killed me even when I bow or salute after I’ve won a fight. Its called decency and realising the avatar I just fought is a real person and not resorting to such childish and immature behavior.

On a positive note, My thief’s name is Ishi Jo on darkhaven, If you’re reading this..to the mesmers I fought outside of blue vale and west garrison today (07/17) thank you so much for those fights, they were easily 2 of the best fights I’ve had.

I’m no expert but most here can agree that the problem with pistol/pistol is that theres simply no rhyme or reason for the combination considering body shot is stupid weak, vital shot applies a bleed while unload is a straight dps attack with no dot on it. So, with that in mind the only armour that would make sense for this type of thing is rabid but any increase to your dps is minimal, even laughable at best. Your condition damage suffers, Your straight damage suffers. Which is the problem with conditions and burst damage, you have to go all in for one or the other and I feel personally that trying to hybrid this setup is handicapping yourself.

Your choice in traits for this type of build is more suited to a burst power build, the 30 in shadow arts is something I consider just about mandatory for my condition thief but you spent 20 points in deadly arts without taking any venom intensity or duration, and you have no venoms as a utility. You spent points in trickery but didnt spend those points on caltrops nor do you have the caltrops utility on your skillbar… and then you neglected acrobatics entirely. Death blossom is “the skill” of a dagger dagger condition build so you’re going to need alot of endurance to dodge alot and the initiative to sustain it so acrobatics is another “must” here.

So you’re roaming and encounter an outnumbered situation and decide to engage, do you have a priority list of who to go for first? Say this group is consisting of a warrior, elementalist, and a mesmer, even if all 3 are upleveled, you have no way of knowing just what level they are, what their build is, and what gear they may have already. this group could consist of any variation of classes so was just wondering what your general approach and strategy to a situation like this would be.

especially venoms with condition builds, it makes total sense that venoms would truly shine here and melt enemies with bleeds ticking on them too but really, venoms are just about as useless as they get. You lose so much damage output because you have to trait entirely around venoms to get any significant viability out of them.

both. forward movement with W, strafe with A and D (I have dodge binded to S) as it felt more natural to get used to. I guess its what suits you and feels more comfortable but using the mouse to turn and manually pressing your skills will always be superior over clicking and keyboard turning. Especially in PVP, You just simply cant click your skills, watch your health pool, watch your opponents movements and turn quick enough to counter your opponent at the same time.

I very much enjoy the crafting aspect of games, especially ones with a deep intricate system. I played an artisan/architect in star wars galaxies (pre cu) and that was really like having a job but I spent far more time on that character than I did with my combat character.

This games system is pretty fun but I really didnt enjoy it until I figured it out and could actually afford the time and in game money to really do anything with it. that seems to be the problem with most new players as well as the plethora of resources you’ll need to even get above 75. it really seems like an after thought or just something to do when you hit 80 but it can benefit your character(s) personally if you choose to invest time into it. there are many tutorial guides on this forum and on youtube that helped me tremendously so definitely check those out. good luck

Hit 80 last night. I was in sparkfly fen gathering crafting materials and realised just how close I was to this island so I started swimming south then kept getting message “you have hit a hard wave, you will be pushed back if you do not retreat” or something to that affect so I’m guessing I havent done something to “unlock” access to this area. I havent run a single dungeon and havent completed my personal story yet either, are these maybe reasons I can not get to Orr yet?
