Well, those 30 bullet points in Engineer make me hopeful, as Engi is my main profession. :P I hope they fixed our bazillion bugs and broken mechanics.
I like the downed state. It adds a whole new level on strategy and gameplay.
However, there are a few things I’d like to see changed:
- pets despawn on downed state. Every kind of pet: ranger beasts, necro minions, illusions/clones, what have you. It doesn’t make sense that some classes can keep damaging you just as if they were still up.
- some downed skills need to be reconsidered. Besides Thieves and Mesmers which can make you waste tons of time by teleporting around, Warrior represents another problem. Either you stomp him as quickly as possible or he hands your kitten over to you.
- the damage during downed state need to be normalized. Thief still deals tons of damage when downed.
- remove Rallying. It’s just stupid that when I get stomped during intense team fights, 3 people magically get up. To recover from downed state, either you do it yourself by hitting 4, or a team mate needs to help you. Rallying is just unfair at times.
Well besides some balancing and class mechanic bugs, Necromancers have been shafted beyond hope and all viable specs are either crit or condition builds, mostly condition builds which makes speccing dull for the most part. The largest problem keeping GW2 out of any real Esport status is the stupid downed state abilities, and not all downed state abilities are created equal, Warriors have what I refer to as the “do over” resurection bs button , then thieves and mesmers with their endless BS then all the other abilities are not so bad. Some specs are better at finishing off downed players usually heavy armored melee characters with high stability. Which basically means all downed state is, is a way for people to get kill steals off you in pvp matches and screws ranged characters who basically have to try and dps they prey down before he is staked.
I cant figure out why the even implemented it.
I like the downed mechanic it’s annoying but adds a whole level of strategy… also lol necro’s have the MM builds which will own any other class hands down which do not use condition or crit damage and are OP as kitten and I’m more than willing to demonstrate if u so desire
I’d like to see this.
Minion master is like the most prohibitive build a necro can have, as it forces you to devote most of your points into traits you totally can’t run without. Not to mention it leaves you with zero utility skills, and having spent so many points into minions that will disappear as soon as you get Moa’d, makes you, the necro itself, useful like a dirty sock.
Minions themselves will attack whatever they want, IF they attack, so good luck making some use out of it when you’re facing more than one enemy, or a Mesmer.
So yeah, if you’re able to make a Minion master build work in tPVP, by all means, let me see how.
I’m always amazed at how low people will get to win a game.
My faith in humanity keeps going down and down.
Remove the tickets thing and add a ladder, then divide the tournaments in:
- Ranked Game
- Free Game
So good teams will finally stop pubstomping and will gtfo into the Ranked Games while leaving us casuals, or people who need to learn the game, play with like minded people.
I wouldn’t get my hopes too high if I were you, for I doubt one single patch is gonna make things better.
They said that they’re gonna address the Thieves’ perma-stealth issue for sure, but other than that, I don’t see anything really relevant coming. Excuses will most likely be: the game is still kinda new, the meta still needs to settle, and stuff like that.
Meanwhile, we keep being victims of 2, 2, 2, 2 coming outta nowhere.
No, I’m expecting that hitting 5 buttons shouldn’t kill me.
You’d think it’d take some thought, or at least 2 rotations.
I’m a Guardian with 3.2k toughness and 18k health.
Feels balanced, man.
Buff: fix Corruptions so that… you know… they actually hit something.
Well I’d say so, yeah.
Usually it’s me guarding a point, and when I see attackers incoming I just yell at my team mates to come help, and I try to hold the enemies off till they arrive. When my team comes to help, that’s when they get the support I provide.
Or at least, that was the thought behind the build. :|
I do not mean any offense, but I don’t see how your build works. Might explaining it?
Anyway, as andy said, use Pure of Voice and Runes of the Soldier, which will make your overall build synergy a lot better and help you survive against conditions a lot better. Doing so also allows you to use an extra Shout instead of Contemplation of Purity if you’d like, which frees up a trait that is currently not doing very much.
Well, the build was supposed to be helpful to teammates by providing them a passive regen (with the Battle Presence trait), buff them with shouts and remove conditions off them (Save Yourselves) and convert them into boons (Contemplation of Purity).
All while trying to keep Retaliation up as much as possible.
If it wasn’t obvious already, I’m new to guardian lol.
The FOTM seems to be condition builds.
Condition Mesmers, conditions Thieves, condition Necros (well, that’s a given), condition Rangers… Even though I heal from conditions every 10 seconds, I heal conditions with the signet, I heal conditions when I use Virtue of Resolve and I have a Meditation to convert them into boons, I just can’t keep up with the insane amount of condition spamming lately.
Goes without saying that I end up dropping to the ground before my cooldowns are up again.
How do you guys deal with condition heavy teams? ._. Because I’m hitting a dead end here. Any advice would be great.
Thank you.
Can condition damage really make up for lack of direct damage?

Foreword: I only play PVP.
I only run condition builds when I have to DPS because I could never make a power build work, no matter what.
A rotation of dual pistols and grenades can stack a lot of conditions quickly on a target, and the fairly low cooldowns on traited grenades can allow you to reapply them fairly easily if the opponent has some form of condition removal.
If anyone knows any good power build and tips on how to make it work, please share.
I’m interested in which reasons lead other engineers into choosing this or that healing skill as their preferred one.
For me, it’s Elixir H, because I never, EVER run any build without 409. I’m paranoid about conditions: nothing screws you up like having 15 bleeds on your behind. So basically Elixir H and B are always in my bar for quick and easy buffs and condition removal.
What about you?
I don’t think I’ve met botters yet, but I don’t see why a Report AFK feature isn’t in the game already.
I see AFKers all the time, even in tPVP. Might as well boot them and leave room for someone else to join. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t be like this. ._.
They moved the PVP things from the Hero panel to their own button, up above with the others. It’s an icon with 2 swords crossed.
Yeah, it got me by surprise as well.
Not every premade is actually a premade, even if it looks like it.
Take myself for example: in my guild, there’s constantly tourneys going on. Someone asks in the guild who wants to go and a team of 5 people is quickly made. The people in a team are never the same tho, so this doesn’t make it much different than going in with a bunch of randoms.
What makes this better than going full pug is that at least there’s some form of communication that makes things better. Now, if GW2 had some form of integrated voice communication system without having to resort to Mumble, Teamspeak or what have you, even full pug runs would be much more enjoyable.
Sometimes I happen to meet these Rangers that can’t be damaged, no matter what.
Just now I was 1v1ing a Ranger in sPVP and I basically did… zero damage. He seemed to have Protection and Regeneration up fulltime, plus other boons, and his HP bar just wouldn’t move.
Which build lets you guys pull this off? <_< Because it’s quite insane imho.
He was using a longbow I believe, and had that green dog thingy as a pet, if that helps. Thank you.
I hope these new features aren’t too expensive in terms of Gems.
I’d have to pay real money or do PVE, and tbh I don’t wanna do neither of the two. :P
Didn’t know Chillblains was broken.
You learn something new every day. :|
Never used minions before recently, when I started running a tanky build for point holding in PVP. I use the Bone Minions as blast finishers to combo with the Wells, and the Flesh Golem because I feel useless as either a Lich or a Dark Fart.
For everything else, I usually run a Scepter/Dagger – Staff build with mostly Corruptions as utilities. Never cared about minions, and tbh I find the “Minion Master” Necro build rather annoying.
That ability stops working in the very moment you need it.
Did that guardian just pop Save Yourselves? Corrupt Boon will miss, 100% of the time.
On a serious note, I hope they fix these bazillion bugs about necros as soon as possible.
Now that I think of it, I’m pretty sure the Dagger #4 skill doesn’t work all the time either… Was running some tests for a new build tonight, and noticed that sometimes that skill would transfer just 1 condition instead of “up to three”.
Is it me or can anyone else confirm?
To be honest, I use that skill mostly for the 36s Swiftness.
Best utility ever.
My humble opinion:
If you want to be the “point holder” while doing damage with conditions, you definitely can’t ignore the Bomb Kit. Besides the good damage, it gives you an AoE knockback skill you can use every 30 seconds.
If you’re not using the Alchemy trait “Cleansing Formula 409”, I’d drop the Elixir H in favor of the Healing Turret. The turret gives you health when you put it down, you can use its overcharge skill to remove all conditions and then pick it back up immediately, so it goes on a 20 seconds cooldown and you can use it again soon enough.
If you really wanna use turrets, then I’d pick Rocket over Flame personally, since it has longer range and burns as well. Also, the overcharge skill knocks down. The downside is the high cooldown when it gets destroyed or you pick it up, which can be a problem if you move around a lot.
So I’d go with something like this for point holding while doing some damage:

Hope it helps.
I would love to get the physical CDs, but I live in Italy and it has already happened that I lost money because some item from the US got lost in the mailing system. I wouldn’t like to take the risk again.
I want the soundtrack, is it ever gonna be available on iTunes or any other digital store?
Engineers playing Bach on the keyboard, sounds about right. xD
We’ve got to juggle between a million buttons to work properly.
Lots of utility, but a lot of stressful situations to deal with that require a specific tool, and lots of micromanaging to do.
Regardless, I lol’d hard.
There is a certain “dominating Thief” in the PVP forums I’ve put in my ignore list for a while now, but I still see all of his idiotic posts.
That makes me think the ignore function is not working.
Please fix asap. Thank you.
It’s a legit tactic, sadly.
I usually drop a fear mark onto a teammate when I notice he’s getting invis-stomped, that usually takes care of the stomper. Besides that, you can only hope your team has some sort of knockback AoE or any other control ability that doesn’t require a target.
In a 1v1 you’re mostly screwed. Unless you can go invisible yourself when downed, or you’re a guardian with the downed knockback, there isn’t much you can do. :\
I reached rank 20 in sPVP and I think it’s time to try playing some tournaments.
I was just wondering what are the common roles for Engineers in tPVP.
Will I get kicked if I go in and deal condition damage? Should I just go bunker and try to hold points? Is a support/healing role viable for Engi?
Thanks for any info.
I’d rather keep the PVP and PVE aspects of the game separated, for the following reasons:
- if by PVPing you could get good gear to use in PVE, the PVP matches will get flooded by people who don’t care about PVPing and are in it just for the reward. These people usually don’t put any effort in the game, just a minimum to get by and grind for their gear. I’d rather play with people who actually care about playing a good game than people who farm points/currency/whatever.
- PVE fixes will end up influencing PVP and vice versa. They’re two completely different environments with different dynamics, and if something is overpowered in PVP, might not be as much overpowered in PVE, and it obviously goes the other way around as well.
Personally, I couldn’t care less about the PVE aspect of this game. I don’t care about rewards, don’t care about exp. The reason why I bought GW2 was for the fact that gear doesn’t matter in PVP, and since the only improvements you get are aesthetical, you get less AFKers or people who just mash buttons to farm points.
So yeah, keep them totally separated plz.
Last night there was a sudden increase of Engineers in all of my games. The raise of its popularity makes me worried.
People, please don’t play Engineer. We don’t want nerfs.
I think it would be a super cool feature to have, for both HotJoin and tPVP.
People with not so amazing computers like me lag too much when recording matches with Fraps or similar programs, so an in game feature that does it for you and lets you download them to your HD would be great.
2 dodges are not enough for 4 auto-aiming Heartseekers.
I tried making a post in the suggestions forum about making medkits at least team colored in PVP, so you can see which ones are for your team and which ones have been dropped by enemy engineers.
I see how it is now, thanks a lot for this.
Sometimes the situation can get messy when there’s 2 or more Engineers in the match and all of them are dropping medikits around. A simple texture recolor could help your team identify which medkits they can use and which ones aren’t worth stepping on.
Just a thought. :\
I agree with #4. No matter how good you are, numbers will always outdo skill.
What’s even more depressing: while I’m putting all the effort in the world by switching between toolkits, weapons, different builds, tactics, fiddling with stats etc., some classes just have to hit 2, 2, 2, 2 to win.
Good job.
Dagger in main hand is actually very nice damage, but what I don’t like is that it requires you to get too up and personal with the enemy.
Regardless, cheers to you.
Double or triple all the Mesmer cooldowns.
Lol that’s new to me.
I’ve only played sPVP so far, never stepped into tournaments, but I’ve never had anyone yell at me for being a Necromancer. And why would you be selfish? Playing Necromancer in its current state is a great act of bravery. :P
Just tell them to shut up or find yourself another team/server.
You pretty much nailed the downs of each elite skill.
The mortar is “ok” in WvW if you’re into that, or for attacking/defending a control point if you manage to be sneaky and not get noticed.
Elixir X is way too random to be useful IMO.
The only skill that actually helps everyone in the group and is the most reliable, is the Supply Drop.
If you happen to be unlucky enough to fall under the grasp of 2 people who have some sort of stun ability, you lose complete control of your character without any chance of fighting back or running away.
While I realize stun is an important mechanic to have and I fully support it, stunlocking someone is just too much. An Hammer Guardian with the Spirit Hammer out and an Hammer Warrior can burn you down easily while you’re totally unable to react.
There needs to be a diminishing return: stuns lasting less and less until you become almost immune, and this timer resets after a short while.
On the same note, any way to disable the map instructions whenever you die and respawn in sPVP? <_<
The most played classed definitely aren’t Thieves and Mesmers.
Oh, wait.
Basically, you’re buffing Thieves and Mesmers even more.
I, for one, am glad you don’t have a job at ArenaNet.
I wanna be like you when I grow up. ;o
Just go Mesmer, it’s like playing in godmode.
You go invisible and let your million illusions, phantasms and whatnot do the work, only to reappear a few seconds later and /laugh.
Might want to add your server, timezone, language?
