Sneak Gyro

Uhhh… no.

1) Sneark Gyro has 30s duration followed by 30s CD. CD does not start until it’s dead.

2) SR will force reveal you no matter what if you run out. Doesn’t matter if you have multiple additional sources pumping stealth out.

3) 30s+ of group stealth with Gyro is possible however you have to stop in between the travels, because the gyro follows you from behind and from the video it took the gyro 1-2s to catch up, hardly making it ideal to be used in PvE. This pales in comparison when a Thief or stealth blasting Engi can do 12-15s of stealth and you can freely move about, then restack again. It does show some sort of synergy with the smoke field stacking with Engi though, less down time in between if the group doesn’t have Thief or another Engi and doesn’t mind traveling at a handicapped speed.

  • Destroy projectiles on the last hit of the auto attack on Strider’s Defense – Given to the Daredevil’s last auto attack on staff by default as a reflect.

I agree with you on all points but just for sake of being clear DD’s staff last AA doesn’t have reflect.. just a whirl.

Well Engi’s now have one more additional stealth reveal with the gyro’s death on top of it’s Goggle and trait proc’d Goggle. And Sic ‘Em does count, just because it’s not a reactionary but an anticipatory type skill doesn’t make it redundant.

Furthermore Engi already had stealth capability, blasting smoke field and tool belt skill of Elixir S which when traited can give 6s of stealth with just 32s CD.

Now they have a petit gyro that could party stealth but what’s the point? Mobs/enemies can see it and assuming it has similar tankiness of Engi’s turrets, it’ll go down without any trouble and out they pop.

While I do understand your concern, it’s really not a big deal. It’s not like the Engi can stack stealth in the middle of battle – only use is the tool belt Elixir S which is hardly spammable and needs to be ground targeted.
Thief’s stealth is their poor method of defense… They are at most +1 roles nowadays. I do agree with you on Mesmers. It doesn’t make sense that they should be allowed more easily applicable stealth than Thieves, while being able to spawn clones and phantasms and still remain stealthed. Seriously it’s just a rude middle finger to the faces of Thief players.

Engineer comes into mind. Just to note that this isn’t saying it’s just simply BETTER in all regards but definitely worth contemplating about if you’re having second thoughts about thief. I do apologize for the long post.

Below is a comparison to most of the goodies people have posted in this thread.

-Near spammable blinds, less capable but still with Bomb kit and Mortar Kit it’s pretty sufficient enough.

-Perma Vigor on top of natural 50%+ endurance regen through traits.

-CC master so defiance removal is on par with thief, if not better since you waste dps on thief.

-5 stacks of stealth with about 5s of downtime in between from my personal tests. Sadly no where near Thiefs perma group stealthing capability but if the engi can swap out a utility for the Elixir S(tool kit gives 6s stealth with 32s cd) after a stealth rotation, then easily about 35sec of stealth without downtime.

- Not ideal to stealth and res but does have ‘Toss Elixir R’ that aoe res players at 87s cd.

- No aoe swiftness but has personal perma swiftness. Forge will have access to lightning field if rumor is correct though.

- Perma fury. More access to crit chance augmenting traits.

- Better vuln stacker(capable of solo full stack but with foods and etc since we lost +30% cond duration.. kitten you anet).

-Has RNG skill that casts Wall of reflect or Smoke Screen for 12s traited every 32s. Overall better reflection if traited with turret reflection trait, although tiresome.

-More or less same blast finishing capability and more.

-Better single and aoe DPS but requires more button mashing. Bit of a toss with this one.

-Group vigor share on par or better with HGH builds.

-Magnetic pull(while jumping) for unbugged 1200 range pull.

-Elixir S offers 3.75s evade on 48s traited. Shield has 2 blocks. Tool kit has 3s block. Not very comparable but still I’d say it’s plenty of dmg mitigation. Thief’s S/P pistol whip is kinda the king of evading while destroying enemies though so I’m salty about that.

-High group healing with Healing turret combo or Mortar’s water field. Capable of upto 8-9 blasts so that’s over 10k aoe heal, though with a bit of downtime. Thief’s SoM and Invigorating precision + S/P pistol whip = pretty godkitten good survival and ensures 100% hp while spamming it. Personally I do prefer thief’s survival, it promotes damaging more so you can live more. But in some circumstances where that’s not possible, engi wins hands down(World bosses, few instances of fractals..)

-Better self and group aoe condition removal and conversion thorugh elixir gun, elixir C and elixirs(HGH trait).

-Good access to weakness but not ideal. Elixir gun’s AA and poison field blasts.

-Better poison application.

- 2 or 3 movement skills but of course nothing on par with Thief’s shadowstep skills. With Daredevil spec they can leap like an kitten all day and put engi’s rifle leap to shame(should be the go to profession for JP’s possibly even more than mesmers).

- Better condition dps thanks to hax burn.

- Better team synergies and helpful utilities.. arguably most diverse and best.

- Also has access to all combo finishers.
————————————

AND MORE!

-Fire/Water/SoManykittening fields
-Great for might stacking
-Great for water blasting
-So many knockbacks it wins the Troll award of the year
-Unshameful 1500 range attack
-Flamethrower! Who doesn’t like FT’s? But honestly speaking Thief’s shortbow is better for aoe tagging and just the best weapon in general.
-Better access to chills but I think I’m grasping for straws at this point.

Downside :
-Has turrets but not really significant, AI sucks and it’s stationary and can be crit/conditioned. Huge disappointment.
-Jack-of-trade profession means not ideally best at anything.
-Do you like carpel tunnel syndrome? Good! Get some!
-Do you have arthritis? Would you like some?
-Can you play like a pianist?

Although to be honest once you play Engi you just use what ever rotation fits you best and stop worrying about how to maximize your potential whether it is DPS or group utility. Best way to be of use to your mates is feeling calm and relaxed and slowly learning the rotations and more often as muscle memory.

As for Thief, the one thing that they lack is group utility. It’s not like they don’t have them, but it’s quite sub-par compared to others and of course, pales when compared to Engineer.

Wanna know what I think about the current thief situation? I’m leaving it as my go to main character and will be focusing on Revenant/Engi/Mesmer in the future.

Revenant has 5s blind every 2s with ventari tablet traited as well as 2s protection. Spammable. Also has nice access to dodges with Shiro legends(personal test showed a dodge every 3s without vigor). We’ll see about dps but it’s something to think about if you like those things.

Engineer and Mesmer has less capable stealthing than Thief but still very viable in their own right. But they have better group utilities.

So that’s my take. Personally I just don’t want to use Thief anymore. It(or Karl) has let me down enough. ‘On-evade’ traits is a final nail in the coffin for me. This is of course very subjective to each his her own but I’m not having any of that. Nuh uh.

TL:DR Thief is good in its own right but nowadays there are other choices of professions that you can shop around for that, after calculated contemplation will make you wonder if Thief is really worth it in PvE/PvP/WvW. Of course nothing beats personal experience so try around a bit.

Why "on successful evade" traits are terrible

It’s designed to promote skillful dodges, but inadvertently(or maybe intended) punishes a different type of viable and meaningful play, like Ausfer has wrote : dodging prior to aoe’s, wind up skills and etc. Aren’t those skillful?

Ultimately, whether or not Anet or we see those as skillful or not, what is definite and not subject to one’s opinion is that a part of the thief players spectrum is getting shafted because of this, no one can deny that.

I agree that this has to be turned back in to regular dodges, because I for one and atleast a handful of other thief players see this and the first thing that comes to our mind isn’t ‘oh alright lets play more skillfully!’, it’s ‘oh it’s punishing me even if I dodge and game sees it as no dodge’. It’s not fair.

Also, so what if I do dodge prematurely or otherwise in a manner seen as a ‘waste’? I will get those ‘benefits’ from those traits BUT I’ve lost a dodge because of that and I will be punished when I actually need a dodge. I won’t be able to dodge and be hit fair and square. I’m not getting better benefits for ‘wasting’ a dodge. I AM already punished for it.

So please Anet, revert it back to it’s old ‘on dodge’. All this ‘on successful evade’ is promoting an unjust playstyle where it’s stressful for the player to make sure we have to strive to see the ‘Evade’ words in battle just to reap a small benefit.

Or make it game wide for all other professions. Oh, no? Don’t want to let Guardians or Wars heal/dmg on dodge without successful evade? Then why do we? Why is our dodge on trait mechanism any different to theirs? Why don’t you ‘promote skillful dodges’ on their traits? We need all the benefits we can reap because unlike those other professions, we don’t have other forms of readily available blocks/reflects/defenses. They have those AND can proc their on dodge traits 100%. So why are we getting worse rewarding mechanisms? It’s not fair, anyone can see that.

I am not speaking on behalf of every thief out there but I speak on these matters because I’ve seen and heard others expressing similar concerns. I am not alone and from what I’m seeing, there’s more than a handful of similar minded players.

Playstyle: PvE(dungeons/fractals)
Server: Stormbluff Isle
Experience with thief: Very proficient with all dungeons except Arah. Also good with fractals 49/50.

I also have War/Guard/Ele/Engi/Ranger/Mesmer on full zerker gears with appropriate runes on them if I ever need them for runs. But I must say I love thief and it shall remain my main character for all eternity.

The best for now is cond engi.
Then melee ele, provided that he attacks more than trying to survive.
LB ranger after, provided that the pet is alive and able to attack.
Then melee thief (pistol-whip build is still good, btw).
GS mesmer. I like mesmer with mantras in PvE. Feel superior.
Staff ele (fire\arcane glass canon)
Cond war (if skillfully use both bow and sword)
Bers guardian (excluding the bug with symbols)
Power engi.
Power war (not that good as many think)
Power necro.
Cond mesmer.
Cond ranger.
Cond ele (with signets, scepter, etc)
Cond necro (excluding epidemic)
Cond guardian (still it seems poor in AOE)

Haha. Thanks for the laughs. You lost me at LB ranger and ‘pistol whip’ thief.

You know if you don’t buy the ultimate and instead buy two copies of hot you will have 6 new character slots AND two accounts for daily log in rewards. 2 months of that and you’ll have your 4k worth of gems in gold. The rest after 2 months is all profit.

What’s the calculation method you used to get 4k worth of gems in 2 months?

Thank you for listening Anet, I'm content.

Thank you for listening and taking action. 1 slot for us existing customers and refunding certain purchasers their core game when purchasing HoT expansion looks very very fair for me. Fair/compromising/whatever people may label, you found a good middle ground or even the best result players accept and because of that, you deserve my money.

I would just like to put in some words though. To be frank, this new ‘value’ does require for me to purchase before HoT is released and I understand that this 1 slot addition will not be offered afterwards… I would expect some would see this as some sort of ‘strong-arming’ us to be enticed to purchase.. for a lack of better word.

Now at this point with what that in mind, common sense dictates whether or not I should wait after expansion to judge how it is or to purchase now. But personally I think you’re good on your words. I expect fully that you will deliver good contents and I believe you will, judging from the past.

So I’m going to ignore such ‘strong-arming’ aspect, although to be honest it would do you good if you extended such period to give 1 slot to existing customers, to… say 1-3 months after release. Or even permanent, since these are existing customers, it’s always good business to welcome them in at any time in the future. What harm would it do you? This would certainly make you look better as a business, at least in my humble opinion. Just my 2 cents.

Anyway now I’m off to purchase the Ultimate edition. That’s at least one more purchaser to add to your list, with I’m sure a lot more to follow.

Thanks again.
Kevin

Another person here not purchasing HoT, until it reduces in price as expansion only or few months down the road when and if there is a sale for like 40-50%. IDGAF enough to be concerned with HoT contents anyway.

Just want to let everyone reading this that this is completely all my personal opinions and decisions. IDGAF if you disagree with me.

Now to the point : I don’t know why you, ANET, priced the base expansion at $50. I don’t need to have played it to know that it does not have $50 worth contents. You had plenty of videos, beta tests to prove it’s worth and impress me enough but it didn’t. ‘Maybe you should try it before making that judgement’ isn’t going to fly.
In my humble opinion I would only pay at most, $30. But that’s just me personally so no biggie, I know others who don’t have issues paying $50 for it.

Maybe you’re low on cash? If you are, let us know. Prove your worth. Otherwise it’s jut simple greed. How can it not? Most seems to agree with this point. This game isn’t 100% B2P as we all know, your obliviously expensive gem store rakes in cash after cash, so I doubt you’re low on cash. Compared to other MMORPG’s out there you’re doing pretty good actually.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Base-game-included-with-the-49-99-expansion/first#post5156129

The above statement I know has struck most of the players heart with absolute discontent. Words like displeased, upset, disappointed, blatantly ignored, a big kitten you to our faces probably doesn’t nearly enough describe what most are feeling right now.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/I-m-not-buying-HoT-at-50-dollars/first#post5155683

What the kitten is with the above reply? You should be making cases trying to justify why everyone who’s raging that $50 isn’t worth it, is indeed worth it.

You know what? I might have, with difficulty, at least have purchased the $50 expansion if it was just expansion and another set of core + expansion was priced at $70 or something.

But no, by saying it has ‘free’ core game to entice new players, you have ended up shoving your filthy middle finger up my nostrils and not give a kitten whether or not I as an existing customer get anything as an incentive. Hmm yep paints the exact picture of what I felt when I saw the pricing.

Maybe you felt greedy and decided to rake in just a bit more cash. Funny thing is, by doing that you ended up not getting any money from me at all.
At least by either selling the expansion alone for $30+- for us existing players you would actually have made that much more certain income. There’s literally nothing for us for being loyal customers.

YOU tell me why I should buy the expansion for $50. Try. Convince me. Seriously. What the kitten kind of decision making went through at Anet HQ that came up with this pricing? I want to know.

Until then, good luck. I know that I may be but just a few number of people who will not purchasing HoT out of disgust and that might not affect anything end game for you, since I know there’s still a lot of players who will purchase HoT at the current pricing.

By not buying I’m certainly going to be left out of the HoT experience while others who ate the bullet and just bought it will. So in the end I might not be making any difference at all, in fact I am pretty sure this post will be glossed over. Only my loss, who cares if you lose one person’s $50 right?

But hey I’m content and glad with my money in my pocket and not yours. Maybe more players than anticipated will decide not to purchase the HoT. So I got that going for me.

Reworked PU trait duration

kevvy.5081

Looking at http://dulfy.net/2015/04/25/gw2-core-specializations/#Mesmer, it shows PU with 100% duration increase.
I know nothing is set in stone but this would certainly be great if it stayed that way. 10 sec Mass Invisibility would make me love the skill more especially since the skill will be categorized as manipulation type skill which could have 72 sec cd.
Still won’t beat Thief’s stealth capability but it could make mesmer a better group stealthing alternative than before.

LF Dungeon/Fotm focused NA guild(mornings)

in Looking for...

Posted by: kevvy.5081

kevvy.5081

Hello all, I am looking for a NA guild that runs dungeon/fotm trains in the morning around 7am EST/12pm UTC.GMT onwards. Time doesn’t have to exact, as long as it’s around this time give or take 2 hours. I like run all week long but sometimes I miss out due to real life, but I definitely give my all best to be on time, hope that’s ok.

Much like most serious religious dungeon runners, I run:
AC all paths
CM all paths
TA Fw/Up
SE 1/3
CoF 1/2
HotW 1(not always, not really important)
CoE all paths

I can also run Arah but I prefer to run the above as they give most for the buck(imo), and the above paths already takes 3hours+ anyway which is enough time played for me.. Definitely not crossing off Arah though.

I have all lv80 chars – Warrior/Guard/Thief/Mesmer/Ele with full ascended berserker gears with appropriate runes/sigils, always use food/utility, running full meta builds and all with 55+ AR. Only thief has 70 AR atm.

I am a mature player that likes to run casual/semi-elite/full crazy elite(I am very flexible but very quick learning and diligent when it comes to gameplay) and pays respect to all others and likes to run humorously and kindheartedly.

Please let me know via reply or ingame kevvy.5081.

Have a great day all, <3

Aggressive Infiltration achievement bugged.

Posted by: kevvy.5081

kevvy.5081

Sorry I tried to delete the thread but only deleted the first post… it read:

In the ‘Meeting the Asura’s part, there are 3 achievements, one of them being ‘Aggressive Infiltration’.
In the first room, when I knock every enemy down except the two that are facing each other(making it impossible to knock them down) and proceed to open the gate to the next area, the game sees that as a fail and I loose the ‘Aggressive infiltration’ achievement.
I think the game expects me to maybe kill everyone in the room including the two researchers facing each other. However this is very impossible, they never face anywhere else and trying to knock one of them down from the sides(as far as possible from either of them as humanly possible) doess not work because their field of view leaves literally no blindspots. Please fix this bug so I can get the ‘aggressive infiltration’ without having to kill those two or at least make them occasionally face elsewhere so I can knock them down. Otherwise this achievement is impossible to achieve.

I believe you’re right, I didn’t think of it that way.

‘Complete “Meeting the Asura” without dying, and sound every room’s alarm.’ This made me thought don’t die and don’t sound every room’s alarm… Guess I should take note of grammar more clearly, since the comma actually divides the preposition of the word ‘without’ from the word ‘sound’.

My bad, please close this thread.
