…you are aware that you can buy these for tokens directly? The vendor is in Labyrinthine Cliffs, just in front of the ground floor waypoint.

The Festival Rewards Vendor (I think this is who you’re referring to? Apologies if not :) ) only offers the head pieces for tokens, not the sun, wind and lightning catcher skins.

Suggestion: remove underwater combat

Underwater combat and exploration is fun imo. Does it need some polish? Sure, a little tlc to aquabreathers (as another poster said: ascended plz), environments and weapons would be nice. But just because something’s not perfect doesn’t mean it should be burned to the ground. I’m hoping they continue to work on it as it would make a pretty amazing template/lead-in to air combat (which I know is not even a twinkle in their eye atm — it’s just on my Dream Big Wishlist).

I’d be incredibly surprised if we ended up visiting Cantha any time soon, but I can’t help but wonder about the Cantha theme aboard the Zephyr Sanctum. Has it just returned from Cantha? I wonder if it’ll bring news of what’s going on there.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Tsuru Whitewing, the new mini that could, in my view, be a potential tengu b-iconic. The tengu name their houses after each of the four winds, and we don’t actually know who runs the Bazaar of the Four Winds…

Aah, wonderful speculation :) I’m hoping the ship has just come from Cantha, as well, but hadn’t considered that angle on Tsuru! I’d love to see who’s running the Bazaar/who exactly the treaty with Lion’s Arch was made by, and I desperately need more Glint lore (almost wrote “Glore” o.o;).

In my head, I envision them slowly letting Cantha bleed into the LS through the Zephyrites and their journeys. If only Elona had a similar way of infiltrating the LS, I could rest easy :)

Every other skin in game is able to be re-acquired and now LS skins will (with the click of a button) automagically store in your wardrobe forever. There is a very small segment of skins that you’ve earned that you will never have access to again. Maybe you build a new alt in a year who the piece suits more than the character you were on at the time? I don’t think people should be punished for not being psychically able to foresee the wardrobe and precisely how it was implemented.

But you would have had access to that skin had you not used it on a character first and/or deleted it to begin with. I had a bunch of LS skins I thought looked horrible on my characters (via preview) but thought some day in the future I may want to use them so I banked them and when I made a new char I previewed them to see if I could work with them yet.

I didn’t need to foresee any wardrobe system to do this. I just thought to myself “well, I have no use for it right now, I’ll just hold onto it to see if it would look better in the future.”

If you deleted it you should have thought to yourself “well, I have no use for it right now— but if I delete it I will never see it again, whatever, see ya X skin!”. I mean, deleting implies forever, so why would you delete it unless you figured you would never need it again ever.

Again, I feel like these posts are asking people to have precognitive powers. I received the Mad Memoires (soulbound on acquire), which had useless stats and was almost immediately made visually obsolete by Mad Memoires: The Complete Edition. So you’re saying that in order for me to have the Mad Memoires right now, I should have held on to this soulbound, useless back piece for 2 years. Or do the “transmute onto white” workaround, which I had no idea about at the time as the game was like a month old and seeing the words “soulbound” made me think it was useless.

Should those who overwrote or deleted parts of gem store armor not have gotten back their full sets in their wardrobe? I don’t see the difference in terms of fairness.

I kept all the skins I couldn’t live without at the time, so I don’t have a lot of personal stake in this beyond what I think is fair. I’m just confused about why something that’s obviously beneficial to the playerbase with no impact on the economy or fairness to new players is being argued against by players. But really, I’d just like a comment from ANet (haha, wouldn’t we all) at some point clarifying if they’re silent on the issue because of coding difficulties, because they endorse this “sucks to be you, should have made a skin mule” outlook, because it’s working as intended and will never be considered, or what. You earned the skin. It says so right there in your achievements. I fail to see the problem beyond that of time and coding.

I find it pathetic that some commanders coordinate with the enemy to make sure there are no fights between zergs. Really, really pathetic.

I’ve done that before and so far I heard no complaints from the players in my squad.

Yeah? I consider it cheating, and you should be banned for it. In other MMOs it’s a bannable offence.

I probably shouldn’t touch this hornet’s nest but… You consider that cheating? I can’t help but wonder what your reaction to all the 2v1’ing in WvW for Season 2 is, considering those commanders talking to each other affects the rankings/rewards of entire servers. The devs must know about it by now and their inaction/lack of statements seems to mean commanders can carry on this way as far as the laws of the game go.

I, actually, am usually pretty impressed when 2 commanders on opposing sides manage to coordinate with eachother… even if it happens to be biting my server in the back end atm. Instead of treating EotM/WvW like “we must all war for honor because reasons!” it shows the reciprocal relationships humans can form even inspite of being told to be enemies. On a philosophical level, cooperation out of conflict really tickles me – even if it’s only for a short time as some of these 2v1 Season 2 alliances may yet be. It’ll be interesting to see if they compete for first and second at the end or if they worked something out ahead of time. I do wish this kind of match fixing were somehow against rules in WvW proper but idk what they could do to fight it or why they would since they’re not trying to esport this portion of the game. Probably best to focus on fixing the map issues players have been exploiting first, in any case.

I agree that if someone really wants to defend, who cares. EotM is beautiful and meaningless, so c’est la vie. I have way more fun there ktraining and don’t feel bad when I want to yolo and do whatever I feel like — because it’s like Who’s Line: Everything’s made up and the points don’t matter. I’m just not gonna get worked up over someone’s playstyle in such an insulated setting. 10xs more fun for me than WvW atm with these fixed matches.

They may code it someday, but I personally think that will never happen.

Bummer; why do you think that? I guess I just don’t understand how a simple “if (specific or meta achievement) achieved, then unlock (armor skin)” would be so difficult :\ If an employee tells me that it’s not feasible or very difficult in the code, that’s another thing.

The skins lost would probably be some of the earliest ones, meaning that these players have supported and played the game since its early days. Implementing this just seems like really basic customer service care towards their most loyal customers to me.

It’s not like these skins were tradeable, so no one has made money off of losing the skin… it would just be a nice courtesy move to everyone who has invested themselves in the living story.

I hope they seriously consider it.

ETA:

So if you were OK living your GW2 life without them before, why do you suddenly care now?

Edge of the Mists is probably best left until you have some traits and higher tier skills under your belt, imo but ymmv. I absolutely recommend crafting as a chef and using the food you create to gain exp boosts etc. It’s cheap and you get a lot of exp from it. I think it’s second only to medium armor crafting atm but you’d have to consult with someone more knowledgeable about the fluctuating materials prices/check the trading post yourself since I tend to be very yolo about my crafting. You also get a good amount of exp from map completion – I’d start with the cities and work your way out.

I’ll quote what I recently posted to another new kid on the block looking for advice:

“Each race has a lowbie 1-15 zone. To access these areas, you should head through the Lion’s Arch asura gate in your race’s city (if you can’t find it, look it up on the wiki though you’ll earn exp for exploring the city). Due to recent events in the Living Story, Lion’s Arch has been destroyed and these gates will take you to Gendarran Fields. There, you will exit the asura gate and be surrounded by a hub of gates. This hub will take you to any race’s city in the game. You’ll want to go through each one and explore the map just outside of the city. You should find enough content to take you to level 15 or higher for the next tier of maps.

As for the 15-25 map, you can try experiencing a map a little bit higher level than you. Characters are “upleveled” in this game, meaning your stats will get a little bit of a boost in higher level areas (alas, you will still be using the simple skills and traits you normally have). I’d recommend bringing along some food/relevant potions which you can make as a chef (food) or artificer (potion) if you want to try the tougher map right off the bat. Oooor you can just buy off the trading post but you probably don’t have a lot of extra money at this point and you’d be missing out on the experience you gain from crafting. Seriously, try crafting for a bit once you’ve gathered some materials. It’s easy exp and the items created are usually helpful. Maybe give /map chat or LFG tool a shout out to form up a party. Safety in numbers and all that."

I don’t want a nerf at all. I just want him to spawn at reasonable times in my schedule. My choices are 4am (sleeping because work) 10am (at work) and 7pm (aka when I have to be making/eating dinner with my family). It’s gone from something I could attempt every day at reset to something I have to wait until the weekends to try. Just so we’re clear: 7+ attempts per week down to maybe 2 or 3 if I can manage to be online at the right times on the weekends/assuming I have no obligations or plans or chores etc.

That’s a big bummer to me.

I love this dungeon for its beauty (so, so pretty) and unique boss mechanics. I hate this dungeon because of the electric room (luckily my guildies are more practiced and sure at it than I am), length vs reward, foreman achievement (someday I’ll get it. Until then, I waste about an hour+ per attempt with the unskippable cutscenes, depending on the group, our connections etc), and a bug my guild and I ran into where the hologram aetherblade in the Oakheart room wouldn’t spawn, leading us to have to wipe and reset a few times. That was v frustrating.

I really want a TA Aether weapon and I really want to complete all the achievements. After getting the achieves, I probably won’t bother tbh unless someone in my guild needs help.

Unlock Past Achievement Skins

I have Mad Memoires: The Complete Edition.

I had to hand over the Mad Memoires to Tassi (I assume it was then destroyed) in order to make The Complete Edition.

I assume that because it’s not a purely upgrade-via-crafting/forging item the way the Blade Backpiece is, the code didn’t unlock the item automagically. But someone should be able to logic out “oh, if they have The Complete Edition, they clearly had the basic version, too” and add that to the code, yes?

I hope so :)

I love her armor set and want it for my ladies because it’s a little haute but still practical to fight in. It’s detailed but cohesive/sleek and not to the point of distraction as with some armors (-stares at ascended light-). Look at the corset pattern, the metal ornaments at the bottom of corset, the lace at the top of the boots and at the ankle and neck. Plus I love the shorts-over-leggings look – adding the tall elegant boots is even more swoon-worthy. If only there wasn’t that terrible crotch flap hanging from the top (why do designers do this. Is it because she’s just wearing tights? Or are those actually shorts? Please let it be more than just a loincloth over tights), though I think it balances nicely with the side flap of cloth.

But tbh I see the draw of leaving certain sets for certain major NPCs. I would prefer that they add armor inspired by her instead (make her a fashion icon instead of creating a horde of Anise clones). I think we need more diversity in armor, especially outside of the gem store.

I’d also love armor inspired by the head norn shamans (Raven Shaman armor needs a player equivalent like yesterday).

I completely agree; a favorite system would help me sort some of my favorites from the more “common” skins. Maybe with a bright white outline around the box the way you can optionally select item rarity outlines to show in your inventory. This would help keep the skin icon visible instead of blocking it out the way dye favorites work.

Game Updates: World Boss Synchronization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kimeekat.2548

kimeekat.2548

I’m really bummed. I haven’t been able to make a Tequatl attempt since the update due to my schedule and (ugh) the game’s schedule. I used to be able to attempt it once a day after reset, and now I feel like I’m being punished for working 8+ hour days and then having to make dinner/spend time with real people.

I don’t like having to look outside the game for the schedule. This was a flaw even the previous system had, but the APIs were great in that they included temples. I was never sitting around for 20 minutes waiting for something to pop. I don’t like the schedule compared to the old system, though it could be worse I suppose — could be totally random with no APIs like the temples, heh.

eta: Oh, forgot to mention how laggy things are now and how much more of a zerg it is but I think that’s been thoroughly covered in other threads. That’s less about the synchronization itself and more about megaservers overall, so I’ll leave it here as a mere afterthought.

Temple of balth

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kimeekat.2548

kimeekat.2548

Nope. The APIs that would output information on quests to websites are broken now. They were server-based. Server zones were static.

Now we have megaserver zones, being constantly created and destroyed without a static designation the way server-specific zones were. Guesting won’t do jack, afaik, except maybe tweak the megaserver’s algorithm when it matches you up to “your own server” to the one you’re guesting on. So maybe you’ll get a different map?

RIP helpful APIs. Now we have to stand around waiting for pre-events to pop.

The best I can suggest is to camp or hope someone in your guild is already camping it to give everyone the head’s up. And then we cross our fingers and pray the shard isn’t full.

Game Updates: Guild World Events, Megaservers, WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kimeekat.2548

kimeekat.2548

My biggest complaint is echoing what others have said: How am I supposed to know when temple events are going on? With the sub-complaint: The temple events never pop because there are too many people are in Orr defending. And the sub-sub complaint: I thought you guys were focusing on putting more info in the game, yet there are no boss timers to be found.

It’s become impossible to tell from looking at the map if the temples are contested. Last night, I camped in Straights of Devastation only to see so many people around now that the temple doesn’t fail. How am I supposed to get my new gm traits (across 8 lvl 80 characters) this way? I don’t have the time to sit around and hope an event starts. I thought one of the goals of GW2 was less “waiting to play” and my experience last night was… well, I waited and didn’t get to play. APIs help me to know how to efficiently spend my time in-game. Now that they’re gone, camping is king once again. Ain’t no one got time for that. I hope it dies off, and that this is just a side-effect from everyone rushing to get traits at once but I wouldn’t hold my breath because temple trains are (or were?) big draws on my server. I wouldn’t mind a less populated map tbh, or a removal of the megaserver from Orr. Let people guest if their servers are too low pop to handle the temples. Then if they get kicked into OF give ’em a megaserver shard.

As much as I was excited about the megaserver… I’m finding my lag has doubled to tripled in areas where I shouldn’t be getting lag (outside of meta events). I hope the city lag is due to everyone crowding there due to the update.

I am finding that I don’t like being mixed in with tons of other servers. I liked being at events and scoping people out, trying to get to know names, guilds and faces that I might see around again. This way… it’s just a sea of new people all the time, no one is familiar. It seemed like a complete hodgepodge of people. There’s nothing "Cheers"esque about it (“where everybody knows your name”). That is, I feel even less like I’m part of a community — it’s even more like I’m part of a herd/crowd — which is a shame because isn’t WvW centered around the idea of forming an identity with your server? I feel like PvE should reflect that as well, not that I’m against inter-server cooperation. I’m just concerned at driving such a wedge between WvW and PvE. It’s one thing to fight beside people you see around in maps, it’s another to be like “who are these unfamiliar people/guilds? Even though they’re from my server they feel unfamiliar”. I wonder if this is just a work around to avoiding server mergers and avoiding giving people selectable shards like GW1.

My guild tried to get into Fields of Ruin last night and we all ended up in different instances. Same for Karka Queen in Southsun and Mount Maelstrom’s metas (MM isn’t on the MS list but the map wasn’t marked overflow and people from 4+ different servers were there and insisted they weren’t guesting, so idk what to think).

I’ll have to give it some more time before solidifying my judgement, but my short-term judgement is that this has been the weak spot of the update so far. Good luck to the team in addressing these issues and thank you for trying to think outside the box in the first place :)

New armour . . .

It’s just a kitten game

And it’s just my kitten money they’re not getting more of by keeping up this double standard of female gear showing more skin on the same exact armor set. See how consumer feedback is relevant?

The female medium armor is BEAUTIFUL. This is how you do sexy and classy while still making it feel like it’s protective/of a medium weight. Standing ovation. Reminds me of necro kurzick gear from GW1. Too bad my male mediums miss out on the cool fishnet effect (whyyy).

The female light armor looks like Human t3 light bottoms with just two of the hanging panels in tact and some pants (praise the heavens, pants). The female shoes look almost exactly the same as Feathered/Flamekissed and Phoenix. How many sets with feathers at the ankle does a girl need? I’m happy that breasts are at least not on partial or full display in her bra top this time around. But why can’t my male Sylvari/female Asura have skins based off of the female version? My sylvari boy already missed out on the cool floating feathers from Phoenix set, I’d like it if he could wear something more proportionately revealing to the female version than a very conservative “deep v” style tunic.

Thank you for the heavy, which looks close enough to being the same set on both genders that I am considering buying it.

To Aaron McLeran: (Drums)

Posted by: kimeekat.2548

kimeekat.2548

Dear Aaron McLeran,

First of all, thank you very much for bringing individual music to this game. Music plays such a big part of so many peoples lives, we appreciate all your hard work!

When I saw the horn and harp all I could envision is the possibility of making bands within guilds someday. Then you came out with the drum!

This is my question: Are you going to take this any further or is this the best GW2 will do with music?

Dulfy described the recording ability of the drum as “primitive.” I see there is a slider for people who want to tune out those obnoxious souls who live to create nothing but ruckus, so is there now justification to making a folder within the GW2 file for just music? Perhaps ABC formatted music?

Not everyone is talented enough to play music in “real time” but synchronizing music playable by party members is not outside the realm of feasibility. So how far will GW2 take this?

Thank you for your time.

Yes: Absolutely thank you for bringing music into the game. The instruments and the wintersday bell game are some of my favorite items/activities in-game.

I like this question. The music is starting to feel like it could be a larger alternate style of gameplay/mini-game, approaching the RPG elements so often left out of MMOs in favor of hack and slash elements. I see this as a form of play with a function (aesthetics of art) vs something like costume brawl where it’s like… what is the point of this mechanic besides getting my daily.

It’d be nice to have a similar sort of mini-game to the wintersday bell choir with instruments from the gem store. Could be single player or multiplayer with a variety of instruments or multiple parts for the same instrument.

Or maybe put in quests whose rewards are scrolling in-game sheet music or are otherwise musically related. In some places I miss the sprawling multi-zone questlines of GW1 (in other places it felt like the most tedious thing imaginable), but a questline/achievement run like this could be ridiculously fun. Sort of like the Belcher’s Bluff activities. You could pull in the one man band in Divinity’s Reach and Marcello DiGiacomo — oh and Maklain the minstrel in Orr. Maybe even the singing Lionguard in Gendarran (IloveyourandomLionguard), or any of the myriad of other musical NPCs in this game. Maybe the singing Zephyrites, too.

Perhaps a busk mechanic where people can easily donate money to you or demoralize you to the point where you have a 10 minute debuff for instrument playing. Or maybe moralize you into getting some sort of buff instead of money..? Something like that, where you risk something to gain something.

tl;dr Yay music.

OMG this game has english text I am offended! Seriously, these days everyone is offended by something for no logical reason. Funny how people get offended and don’t do anything about it or cry to some official to solve the problem and make a few laws.

Guild Wars 2 is already a middle finger to various Western cultures yet there is barely an incident of offense. The fact that Christianity/Islam/Judaism does not exist in this game probably offends some religious type people because Tyria has other gods. Do these religious people even play the game???? I doubt it and yet they aren’t trying to stop anyone else from having fun playing a game.

I think Westerners are more worried about the offensiveness of Cantha than the so called Asian countries would be.

GW1 has Cantha…. yet Cantha still exists in GW1 despite the cultural mixing. It is obvious that Asia doesn’t give a crap because it is simply a game. They can ban it in Asian countries if they really wanted to but they won’t. If you think that Asian cultures would start a war just because little old GW2 had Cantha in it you have no idea what you are talking about.

Sales would probably skyrocket if Cantha was added.

How about we have Anet make a poll and send it out to every citizen of every country in Asia to see if they would play GW2 if it had Cantha? See how stupid that sounds?

Erm, should I point out all of the outcry against Jory and Kasmeer based on religious/cultural objections? I bet you some of these same people feel that the Cantha outcry is ridiculous without a moment of self-reflection. More people are a part of the “I object!” club and they just don’t know it.

That aside, your question about religious indignation in real life preventing people from playing games the way they want lacks…experience. Do you remember when conservative groups blasted SWTOR for having homosexual relationships in game and called for boycotting? Yeah. People can take issue with anything about a game they choose for better or worse. It’s up to the developers to pick and choose their battles and the presentation of Cantha certainly appears to be a point of contention to an important group of people.

The outcry you cite against KasJory is different, though. If it was bisexuals/lesbians kittened off with GW2’s portrayal of their lifestyle, then it’d be similar (I have seen this critique by this faction, as a side note).

You started comparing religious reactions against homosexuality in video games when the more apt analogies to look at are religious reactions against religions in video games or homosexual reactions to homosexuals in video games. Female reactions against females in video games, Western reactions to Western portrayals in video games. I think that’s what Chewables was getting at.

Every group is going to find a fault with how their pet topic gets translated into fantasy/video games.

Opinion Time: That’s no reason to not even attempt inclusion. Like, imagine if I, as a feminist, was all, “well that’s not really how I would imagine any of my lady friends would react in this particular situation/all the women in this game are basically the same interchangeable person” and the developer’s response was to remove women from the game/make them an overwhelming minority in all areas. That’s really no solution at all to my mind.

More on Topic: What got me about Cantha and Elona in GW1 is that they have their own sub-regions, with sub-cultures and sub-styles in architecture, dress, etc. It’s not like “This is the Eastern Asian area! This whole continent is just ~Asia~ have fun as it all blends into one blur” it’s like “Here is a complex culture! Have fun immersing yourself in each unique facet.” The Nightfall storyline felt especially strong in terms of showing differing governments of each region and having them actively play in to the storyline (ugh Morghan let me hug you) beyond “these two factions fight, so make peace.”

Switching weapons out of combat

This sounds like the GW1 F key weapon system. You had up to 4 different equipment slots where you could put different weapon combos to swap between (I don’t recall if it was out of battle or not). Our F key slots are largely taken up now by skills but I’m sure there’s still a way to implement this. It didn’t take the weapons out of your inventory, though, it was just a way to quick-equip them.

I’d also like “outfit” slots like this. Let me group pieces of armor together into outfits that I can change in and out of with the click of one or two buttons instead of 6+.

I would love to have both of these features to cut down on the “fiddling with bags and raging at being hit by an enemy while I try to equip” element of PvE.

The above wouldn’t help bag organization, but others have posted suggestions to address that element. Having a right click option to “hold the item” in your inventory which might give you a few warnings before you sell would be nice, though.

Narrative Lessons From 15 Months of Scarlet

in Living World

Posted by: kimeekat.2548

kimeekat.2548

Another great post, Shrike. :) Just one addendum to your final picture though.

In order for that sense of drama and effort to be retained, we really need to address the issue of players turning the Living Story into “the next farm pit”. Yes, it was exciting and thrilling to try to get to 1200 civilian rescues… the first time. And maybe the next 5 times. But after that, players start going off and doing their own things. They just sit at the Mystic Plaza farming Aetherblades. Or running around hunting Heirlooms. The map gets filled with requests for help with Champions or cries of “Where’s Peter??”, but they are rarely answered. (Or worse, they get yelled at and told to come help with the Knights.)

Sad as it is, the best story moments only come when the player is in an instance (either alone, or with a few friends). Zerg fights can only take you so far, and as numbers and interest dwindle players who came late to the party often miss out.

Absolutely. I was thinking about this over the weekend as I sat amongst a herd of Orr event farmers, drowning in a field of particle effects at the Temple of Dwayna. I had Invasion/BFLA flashbacks and started telling my boyfriend about Guild Wars 1, where it would be me and some guild members, all stationed strategically; I would be able to see their faces, fight animations and effects (not to mention those of the “boss”), and everything felt like an important fight. I could see my friends beside me and not a sea of strangers/lagging effects.

I find it easier to swallow being one commander among 5 or even 15 versus 150. I am better able to read skills and support tactically (vs skill spamming and hoping someone near me needed a cleanse), which is what brings me the most joy from fighting in games.

I know GW2 is trying to shun instanced content, but my god if I don’t feel like I’m an ant in the middle of some bizarre rave (3 fps lightshow) most of the time in zerg content. It also reminded me of being on the breachmaker and unable to even see the NPCs like Kiel and Heal-O-Tron, or the end of the Marionette fight and 100 people crowding around them so badly I didn’t even realize the B-Iconics were in the area (nonetheless holding a relatively important story conversation) until my second time taking the Mari down.

That said, the Mari fight itself was the most epic I’ve seen in-game. That’s an example of zerg content done right, breaking it up in a few ways so you feel meaningful. Tower of Nightmares also did this pretty well, especially with the instances you could break out into for more intimate group moments.

And I’d like to address Shrike’s brief analysis of the Mari fight (because it’s my favorite XD). To say that “we ran up and tested it for her. And then it never showed up again” makes it sound like we had a choice or didn’t succeed in destroying the Marionette. She was testing its death blast (and possibly the time and number of forces it took to hinder her steam creatures from charging the mari) against an entire zone. Our side of the fight was to get up to its inner defenses and shut it down for good. An explanation about why we couldn’t go for a seemingly more tactically sound approach would have been nice to see.

It seems obvious in retrospect that this is the weapon she would have preferred to use against Lion’s Arch as the drill did its thing, but instead had to settle for a slow-onset poison cloud, probably the more potent version of the toxin from the Tower of Nightmares that Marjory and our character speculated about in the Dead End Bar. I assume there just wasn’t enough time before her planned LA invasion, possibly combined with her antsiness to awake the dragon and hubris at her own intelligence, to make another one or salvage it. This does sort of highlight a “how much time has passed between updates in-game?” issue, though. And a consistency issue. I would have loved to see the mari fight reprised in certain ways within Battle for LA and on the breachmaker instead of the random holograms and assault knights’ new mechanics. Not that the new mechanics were bad (they were great!), it just seemed a little random to introduce at the very very end of Scarlet’s story. I would rather have seen her salvage and introduce re-worked elements of the Twisted Marionette if that time gap in-game was only ~a week. The attunement via asura colleges mechanic seemed like it should have been given to a different Big Bad (Inquest + Mai Trin’s Pirates?).

Oh man, my heart has sunk, it seems I’ve truly missed my opportunity for these items :\ I passed on them because of the initial scaling issue on Sylvari (the pauldrons were waaay oversized when first introduced) and I’ve held out on most skins because I thought I’d only be able to use them once (thank god for the wardrobe update).

I like Zax’s comment, though. I’d definitely spend more now to buy that set XD Hmm, where is my beg emote on here…

Maybe they’d let us have local files trigger. They let us have custom music playlists, why not have us be able to store dialogue options locally? I could have myself and friends voice dialogue, we could trade files online between ourselves, or upload to soundcloud…What fun. It wouldn’t match the Personal Story voice, but whatever, I’d rather have the option to record the lines myself than have quiet characters for the next two years.

Feedback: Max Daily/Monthly AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kimeekat.2548

kimeekat.2548

The limits on daily and monthly APs overall seems modest. Let’s say you do 10 dailies (twice as many as you need to complete the daily) for 1,000 days straight. IIRC, each daily is 1AP. It would take you 2.7 years to hit that ceiling. Seems like that gives devs plenty of time to come back to these numbers as time progresses to see if they need adjusting in the scale of the game’s lifespan.

I don’t see how this is discouraging at all. I’d venture to guess that a majority of players will not hit this cap any time soon. I’m glad it’ll put a cap on AP inflation from this source, tbh. Like I said, I’d be very surprised if these were numbers that were not re-evaulated at the end of each year or something.

So we clearly need to get caps put on the content that you enjoy specifically so you will understand our perspective. Is that what you’re saying?

Err..? What other AP content is unlimited and causes max-total AP inflation in the way dailies/monthlies currently do? I can think of the salvaging achievement… but maybe you’ll have other examples to provide.

Every other achievement in the game is a solid one-time earning for hitting a landmark (10 AP for killing this meta boss) or a stepping stone for a similarly limited category (500/1,000 somethings slayed).

Also: implying that I don’t like dailies.

I wasn’t implying anything. I used the word specifically. Meaning content that you enjoy, not that you don’t enjoy.
You say that you don’t see it as discouraging. You guess your in the majority. You demand there is AP inflation occurring.

Guess what? It’s just your opinion. Perhaps your opinion would change if it was the part of the game you enjoyed most that was capped.

And seriously? You are going to compare a daily or monthly achievement with one time achievements? So we have one daily and one monthly period. Everyone will love that….

Quite the assumption, then. I like dailies, I do them basically every day because of the laurel and chest. I don’t like them to the extent of doing 10 of them each day. And if I did, I wouldn’t say I like the dailies themselves so much as the content they encouraged me to play (dungeons, exploring for gatherer or skill points, crafting, WvW, PvP, what have you). -shrug-

You would have to cap Living Story (wait LS APs are already finite), or dungeons (Oh. Also a limit on those APs and rewards), or guild events, or WvW to cap the APs on things I love. And as you can see, those APs are already capped. There is a max number each player can earn in any of these areas. Sometimes that max number goes up (like with LS, where each LS adds new LS APs for that release), as I expect they will do with dailies and monthlies. Dailies and Monthlies can be earned semi-infinitely, as long as the game lives. There is a difference. You can still do all the dailies you want. You will still get your laurels and physical rewards, you just won’t get an AP boost from them if you hit the ceiling. Maybe they’ll give people who hit the ceiling a shiny title to show off their daily/monthly love?

I have no idea how many APs I have from dailies and monthlies, I’m nowhere near my game atm. I said that, based on the numbers and averages I’ve worked out of doing so many dailies each day, you’d have to put in a lot of work to reach that cap. You’re right, I am guessing that a majority of players don’t do the 10 dailies every day required for my previous calculations. I imagine most stop at or around the reward chest + laurel.

And I don’t “demand” that AP inflation is occuring. You can’t.. demand that. You can state it, and it’s my interpretation of the situation, sure. It seems pretty obvious that where every other source of APs are semi-finite, there’s a sort of inflation going on with regards to max-APs in game from people going after the previously infinite number of APs from monthlies and dailies. Whether that’s good or bad is up to the devs and apparently this decision is from mulling the reality of the situation over.

Sorry, but I don’t understand your last paragraph. “So we have one daily and one monthly period.” I think you may have misinterpreted that I was bringing in other categories for comparison of how an AP ceiling is already implemented in other achievement categories.

Once this is in place I have no reason to to dailies. Laurels you say? Okay…I don’t need them I already have mostly everything in this game. Only thing that brings me to log on is to get the AP from new content/dailies/monthlies. I’m already near the daily AP cap….It won’t take me long to get it….so thanks for ruining this for me.

Your cap shows you’ve been playing for 457 days and have earned 4,312 AP from dailies, an average of 9.4 AP/day. You have 5,688 daily APs left until you hit the cap. If you earn your average 9.4 daily APs for every day it will take you the next 605.1 days — or 1.66 years.

You have over a year and a half before this affects you. In that time frame, I’d expect they’d be looking at average APs from dailies/monthlies and re-evaluating.

Yes, I know, probably not priority number one, but it’d be a modest, practical way to start addressing the requests regarding re-experiencing the story. Seemingly simpler than designing fractal-like instances..? But idk, what is how do coding.

Aw, thank you for asking for feedback. Such thick skin and nice mods+devs. I only get passionate about what I love, so you obvs know my feelings on the game. I have my masters in English, so while my original ideas may not be as good as my critiquing, I’ll give it a crack. Other people have made really good suggestions (esp in tying in Personal Story to LS), so I’m going to do my best not to repeat them.

1) I need themes. Okay, we have a villain. She’s all bouncing evil and boundless intelligence. What’s her arc? She starts off crazy and ends crazy. We learn a little bit about why she’s crazy and then we stake her like we’re Buffy and Scarlet’s this episode’s Big Bad. She started getting ridiculously interesting when we found her lair, where the interesting stuff with Omadd’s experiment started playing out in-game, where we saw a pull between one personality and another, but we should have had that from the get-go, at the same time as the story on the website was posted. How much of Ceara is left? Could we save her? Think of the emotional depth you could have gotten out of a plot with Scarlet that gave you a glimpse of being able to actually communicate with Ceara before having it ripped out of your grasp. There’s this line Canach says about Scarlet, that they’re similar because they want to be individuals and find their OWN hunt instead of having one handed to them, but that they’re different because she wants to do this in the name of destruction (said more eloquently in-game). THAT would have been a fun juxtaposition to have played off of. How much individual freedom is too much? Is “freedom” an illusion? I need characters and plots that specifically try to answer big questions like these. Otherwise it’s just a story with no meaning. It’s like a comic book where everything devolves into “ignore logic and talking, let’s solve every problem, even ones that don’t need it, with a fist to the face.” I’d love for there to be a sort of theme tied to each dragon. For example, maybe the themes along Mordy’s baser plot is money/class; we have the ministers, smugglers, a literal hobo to hero story, a B-Iconic stripped of her noble title, and an Iconic vying to get into bed with the Queen. You could do something decent tying all those elements together in the span of a season. Maybe Logan is growing weary of the class system while Kas wants back in and to drag Jory up with her, and we explore what it means to be “noble” along with whether money can bring you happiness etc, at the same time as we explore the corruption in the city and the riches the white mantle were promised by their margonite overlords. It would be a perfect way to introduce deeper or at least more utilized personality system mechanics – diplomacy. Everyone’s suspicious of Queen Jennah; does power corrupt? Or do we find that with great power comes great responsibility? ;)

2) If I’m not going to speak out loud, at least give my characters a personality. It could be as simple as the Iconics/B-Iconcs/Villains reacting to charisma, ferocity and dignity sliders or as complex as having them react to certain choices I’ve made. Maybe characters like you on a 1 to 10 scale, and if they hate you enough can choose not to work with you. So if I have a ferocity character, Kasmeer will tolerate me but probably not want to work with me as much as Braham or Jory would. In instances where you have a “party” of NPCs to work with, this could give you a slightly different fight, so if you replay LS content it’s not the same exact thing on each character.

3) Rewards that don’t take up inventory space. This is a quibble less related to the writing, but do you want to know where my two journals and Zephyr Sanctum viewer are? Gathering dust in my bank. I’ve not clicked on them since the first time. I love little lore rewards like these (love), but why couldn’t they be stored in a library or a storage case in my home instance? The nodes and obelisk shard are interactive rewards done right. I’m still disappointed that we don’t have all the things from the personal story journal in our home instance to interact with, but at least they’re not taking up space in my bank, heh.

I don’t see how nerfing events and champ bags having less gold will “spread out player activity a bit” like they say in their post. Do they expect people to stop doing events and killing champs? What are they expecting to happen instead? I honestly don’t understand the logic.

F’real. I spend most of my available GW2 time in the evenings hopping from group event to event. It nets me dailies, maaaybe a gold if I’m lucky (and usually most of that is NOT from the money drops, usually it’s from getting a rare sigil or two), some salvage, and light karma. My time would be better spent doing dungeons, probably, if I wanted pure coin. I feel like I’m being barely rewarded monetarily for my time to begin with… So why nerf a pretty low-coin-reward system already? I hardly spend anything significant on armor repair or trait resetting, so I feel like I’m getting the short end of the stick.

Mostly, I just don’t understand what I’m supposed to do with a spare 20 minutes with an end-game character besides a CoF run (which gets boring). How exactly will this “spread out player activity” or change my routine in any way? I don’t see how it could, but I could just be missing something :)

Fractals can take 2-3 hours depending on the group and which fractals you end up with, and dungeons other than CoF or some CoE paths can take an hour or more (again, depending on the group). I just… I’m not sure what this does except encourage me to event farm harder during my limited weekday time? -shrug- we’ll see.

Others have pointed out Horrik and Mai Trin as commanders, which I was going to do. There’s also the Molten Firestorm and Molten Berserker that can still be found in Fractals, but they were even more shallow and probably not “generals”.

I would love for the death of the Toxic Hybrid, who was going to be my other suggestions as a faction leader type, to still have an impact. The krait thought this guy was literally an incarnation of their prophets. And we murdered him in the face. U MAD? I hope so. Come at me, Krait.

I also think Mai Trin has a good opportunity to be used as a plot device in Season 2. Maybe she goes to the White Mantle and offers up a deal. She’s the leader of sky pirates and we know there’s some black market business going on over in the Maguuma with bandits. Seems like she (more likely her less-popular and not-on-Wanted-Posters minions) might be a good smuggler for moving their goods around. We’ll see.

I’d love to play Skritt, but I don’t really need a new race when I have the beautiful Sylvari to fawn over in the character creator :3 I could make 30 of them. Don’t care about tengu, grawl, or any other non-playable race besides Skritt tbh.

I can imagine a lot of people being happy with the last logged in addition though.

Yeah, there are good things in this blog of course Buuut I’m also unclear as to what the above points mean. Is the “griefing” they’re talking about people running dungeons together and kicking non-owners out only to sell the end for gold? S’all I can think of, but I would think they’d be crowing with specifics about how they managed that. I would be, anyways XD

And for the last log in… can only guild leaders/officers see that or can members as well? It’d be cool to see how long/often people rep, too. Repping stats seem like the next step, continuing this trend in the right direction.

Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.

I’ll try explaining my thoughts in a different way, because it looks like you’re saying the same thing I did, but disagreeing with me.

Let’s say that you own a Cherry Blossom Shirt, that can no longer be purchased from the Gem Store. I do not own said shirt.

Based on the article, we know that if I were to get the shirt, it would only be as a Tonic. So, the question is: what happens to your shirt? Do they remove it from you and replace it with a tonic? Or, do you retain your shirt, but it now functions as a single-piece armor skin, like the other single-piece items mentioned?

Despite not being given an answer, the general consensus in this thread is that you’re getting screwed out of your shirt for a near-useless, unwanted tonic.

Personally, I feel that the blog would have worked better, if they had addressed the issue of Already Owned, discontinued skins. I also think it might have been simpler to ignore the tonic idea and slowly re-release older skins. However, since I don’t know why they did it, I can’t be sure that last idea is actually better.

You literally can not buy the shirt anymore. That plus the phrasing “converted”, which I’ve bolded above, makes it seem pretty obvious that the tonic is referring to your currently existing shirt.

ETA: the only thing that’s really contentious is WHICH items fall under the vague umbrella of “some”.

Why are you repeating what I said?

Your post implied that the thread was full of people jumping to conclusions about what would happen to an individual’s original clothing piece. That there is ambiguity about “Already Owned” skins. My post was saying that it seemed pretty obvious from the dev quotes that the conclusions were not jumped to but based on those quotes. That those quotes are addressing “Already Owned” skins.

Most people on forums are people who have left the game or who don’t play actively and therefor have the whole day to spam hating threads. People love to cry, you can’t make them happy.

The update is loved by the majority. The game isn’t for everyone.
Nice work Anet.

Mm, I appreciate where you’re coming from but your first sentence is 100% conjecture. I’m an adult with a desk job who plays every day. That’s how I get the privilege of forum-lurking. Also, there’s a difference between constructive feedback/asking for clarification and just being a jerk.

The update is a step in the right direction overall, sure, and that’s why I love this company and have played the franchise from day one of Prophecies. But that doesn’t mean that a subtopic like the changes to town clothes MUST be all sunshine and rainbows. Or that debates/feedback shouldn’t occur. -shrug- Like, I can love it overall but still take issue with some elements of it.

So if I bought the riding pants but nothing else of the riding set, I’ll be getting a tonic and not the pants item? Which means no dye paths and no mixing and matching? That’s a bummer; I truly hate tonics. Still a little mad at myself for going for the selfless tonic cause it’s a pain to even remember I have it/which character it’s on, nonetheless continually reapplying it after each zone. I’d rather have a refund of the one item and put it towards buying the whole set for the dye paths tbh :\

And costume brawl items like the pirate sword… will they be tonics? How many tonics can you wear at once? What about my Halloween hats?

I’m so confused.

Week-end Bonus
A direct consequence of the livestream.
I’m speaking about things like the rank bonus week-end or other future temporary events. You must include this kind of announcements IG !
At least you had here on the En forums some red posts to tell you “hey, it’s time to go pvp and use your glory booster”. On the other offcial forums, nothing.

Oh man, that rubbed me the wrong way, too. These sort of announcements absolutely need to be in-game somehow — and not just on the log-in screen in a feed of blog posts that flicks by quickly with the auto-launch option checked. I mean properly in-game. Half the time I ignore the stickied threads at the top of each forum because they tend not to change from week to week. Maybe a new color for urgent/limited time posts/announcements is a temporary solution..? Along with a notification by the sub-forum that such a post exists, because how would I know it’s there unless I checked every single sub-forum. Hm. I had no idea glory boosters were being removed from the game until basically the day before it happened, and by then I’d already scheduled my evening full, so I couldn’t take full advantage. And I was never aware of that weekend event until your link.

I hope they work on a solution for communicating with the non-English communities, OP :)

What was your favorite Living Story update?

in Living World

1) The Origins of Madness. The Twisted Marionette Battle is probably my number one favorite moment from the Living Story. Hearing your hero shout to you in the lane, the nervousness of being teleported to the platforms to fight maybe solo… it was incredible. Plus all the character interactions in the Lion’s Arch instance that flowed so well and Kas’ moving talk about her father along with Rox saying she wanted to basically abandon Braham for a warband. Just. Right in the feels.

2) Bazaar of the Four Winds/Cutthroat Politics. Beautiful new area you had to learn new ways to fully explore, fun movement skills, collecting crystals was a non-frustrating mini game because there was no real time limit or pressure, and there was a sort of carnival feel with the side attractions (Zephyrites singing on their boat/GLINT LORE OMG, the performing quaggan, blecher’s bluff, artifacts ). Plus, they added Cutthroat Politics and it was fun wearing those support badges and then voting to determine the outcome of something in the world. Very cool.

3) Queen’s Jubilee. The opening ceremony was good fun to fight through/watch Faren’s heroics/(re)meet Hobo-Tron and Marciello, the arenas and their events were challenging but rewarding, the new skins were beauuutiful and uniquely Krytan (I wish I could have afforded more than 2 at the time). I regret feeling like I didn’t have enough time to challenge the bosses up above. The whole thing had a real “Queen’s Tourney” feel, like I was fighting to gain prestige with humanity, too, and not just loot.

Man, I actually don’t have a tumblr, but would getting in touch with this guy be a possibility for anyone? It would be great to have more like-minded people discussing in this thread!

Ah, thank you both for replying! You guys made a lot of interesting points. I’m gonna have so much wiki’ing to do this weekend. XD

I can’t get ahold of the user directly; she has her inbox turned off and her ask turned off apparently due to people abusing it previously. :\ But I’ll try a roundabout way of giving your info to their significant other to see if they’d pass it along.
