what i want from SAB.
world three: doesnt have to be harder then world two, longer maybe but broken up into smaller levels as someone else suggested.
i want it to look cool remind me of the later levels of my favorite retro games love the references in w1,w2
i want it to make me do new and interesting things to progress further in the level. maybe a higher puzzle to jumping ratio.
i want tribulation mode back. just as hard if not harder. i bought the kitten infinite coin, so gimme.
i want more Moto story. i thought that attaching a storyline to SAB was a bit awkward and still kinda do. when SAB first came out i was really excited about it. i love mini games and games within games. one of my favorite things about playing gw1 for my HoM points was doing challange missions for hero armor. the simple story explanation of educational tool was more than enough to justify its addition to tyria. when they released the story part for world two i was apprehensive that it would over complicate SABs place in tyria but the characters and such were entertaining. and as lore hungry as i was for this game (and still am) it became an appetizing morsel that needs a second course.

and make the world three weapons skins a nice rich red alil on the darkish side. gunna get me a great sword for my warrior.

when i pug i normally avoid partys that imply that they intend to skip. when i cant avoid them i cooperate and follow directions to the best of my ability without complaint because even is its less fun for me to skip mobs its still way more fun to work together than not. when i join a pug and that doesnt mention skipping till we’re mid run or not at all the best i can do is say something like “i prefer to kill stuff.” and hope enough of the pug knows what they are doing. truth is im a small minority. a non skipping group fundamentally exists as a premade. you will rarely if ever find a pug that insists on killing mobs in their path. the dungeon community IS speed runners its the only thing about dungeons thats note worthy. the dugeons are not hard enough that simply beating them is bragging rights. so the only thing left is to do them faster.

im afraid that if people dont opt not to skip for noobs and pugs then Anet will force people not to skip by changing the way dungeons work thus killing the dungeon community as it is now and possibly killing the game. or put in more skip friendly content that i dislike and possibly killing the game for me and the few who agree.

and to the people who keep saying “full clear” and “kill every single mob” you guys are being ridiculous on purpose right? no one has EVER killed every single last mob in any dungeon path (not counting fractals and story intances.). seems important that i state that people who like clearing only clear stuff that is in the direct path of the party drops loot and doesnt despawn when completing and objective.

spending hours killing every mob is supposed to sound stupid but what sounds stupid to me is watching a pug group die over and over using speed run tactics that the group cant execute properly. ive seen dozens of such groups. i havent seen many full clear groups though. let alone ones that take hours to complete a path.

it just a bummer that my fallacy may actually be what people want from dungeon content.

and may actually be the future of gw2. we are way more likely to get two more world bosses (after the worm and the watchknight) than we are to get a new explorable dungeon.

im trying to illustrate that what people want to skip in dungeons are what makes dungeons what they are. if you remove what people seem to have a problem with than they are no longer dungeons by definition. thus Fungeons.

slightly off topic: is it really THAT hard to get drogonite that people would change the way they do dungeons over them? honestly don’t know not even 500 yet.

i think ive been convinced. we should just have anet put portals at the start of the dungeon that lead directly to the end boss. all new dungeons should just be single room encounters. there would be no walls to glitch through no monsters to worry about just enter the instance spam rotation collect rewards.

why have mobs if they dont all drop valuable stuff each time. why have corridors obstacles mazes and traps if nobody has time to deal them or they are just in the way of the reward. this design will allow Anet to put more rewards in the game since they wont have to make content that no one wants to be bothered with.

everything about dungeons should be changed. and since they would be so much more fun… they should be called “Fungeons”.

its more of a the community is bad for the game and turns people away arguement…

followed up by you are playing a fantasy rpg so the D&D murder hobo style of play is the true essence of these types of games so get in touch with your roots being promoted…

im just trying to say that if all you wanna do is kill bosses and get rewards as fast as possible then i dont think dungeons were for you. there are plenty of bosses that are not protected by mobs and corridors and those are meant to be killed in a few minutes. so why go into content that discourages instant payout of rewards and expect everyone to be on the same page?

if you guys keep pigeon holing and kicking and misleading pugs as to the standard approach to dungeon running then eventually Anet is going to nerf speed runs and that would be a bummer because there is a place for it just not with randoms in your group.

and its not even competitive speed running. you are not timing your selves and trying to beat it. you just hate dungeons and dont want to waste time playing them. this is a dungeon community where its common to see “lets make this fast i have work in 20 mins.” at the start of a pug. thats fine for a premade but to be able to expect that from a pug says that there is something wrong with dungeon community and we need to fix it before Anet starts making changes for us.

i cant stand pugging in this game. because for some reason everyone thinks that everyone else is in line with the speed run. and i cant blame them, you bring up lfg and thats all you see. is speed running wrong? it wont get you banned. but it can sure derail a pug. like some one else said skipping mobs takes skill and party coordination. im sorry to say that the majority of gw2 players are bad at the game. you cant expect a pug to skip mobs or port through walls because those are advanced tactics for people who have agreed ahead of time to play the dungeon content in a non-standard way. but not knowing which mobs to skip or where to stand for which exploit can get you kicked from a party.

i personally hate skipping mobs or encounters in a dungeon. thats kinda the reason im in the dungeon. to be forced into a situation where i have to kill mobs that i would normally just ignore in open world. but just because i dont want to skip everything doesnt mean i want to kill every mob in the dungeon down to the critters. just the ones in the immediate path. the ones that you aggro if you have to die and run back. not the mobs that dont drop loot, not mobs that despawn when certain conditions are met. seems like this would be obvious enough to go unsaid but thats just how bad the dungeon community is now.

and it is just the community that is the main problem here. are the dungeons and mechanics flawed? yes. but they would seem a lot less controversial if people would just follow the dungeoneering mentality that was formed but in the original D&D where you didnt let monsters behind you in a dungeon because getting attacked from the front and the back at the same time would wipe the party. sure the games are as different as can be but the people who made these dungeons had that kind experience in mind. you go into a dangerous place delve its secrets and eliminate the dangers to make it safe for the next people who wander in. now what we have is people making a mad dash through traps and enemies to get to the end and kill the main boss. that doesn’t sound like a dungeon run that sounds like open world zerg content.

new people coming in think this is the ONLY WAY and they teach it to their friends as such. so now what happens is you get into a pug that thinks it can speed run but isnt geared/skilled for it and starts wiping. since speed running is the only way, everyone quits because no one knows the original strat where you dont stack in the one safe corner of the room and just dps.

if we can teach pugs not to skip/stack/speed run the community would benefit greatly.

sab is something we’ve already had, something we know we’ll get. don’t you guys have any imagination?

i want to take down the corrupt minister caudecus. i want to explore the floating tower off the coast of wizards fief. i wanna find out what happened to the spirits of the wild that went missing when jormag forced the norn to flee the far shiverpeaks. i want to see rox and rytlock on a mission together as fellow members of the stone warband. i want to see if braham and zojja would get along together or be at odds with each other like zojja and eir. i want to witness the cataclysmic rise of an elder dragon and survive like almorra soulkeeper and cobiah mariner. i want to help regg find an extra spacial discombobulator to fix the broken asura gate to the polymock arenas. i want to travel to the steam-creature’s realm of origin. i want new story and explorable dungeons. i want more personal story. i want more dynamic events and i want them to matter.

SAB is amazing, but i want more.

Scarlet =/= The Joker

i’ve always thought that the only similarities between scarlet and the joker were the corny jokes the colorful gravity defying hair-dos and the occupation of super-villain. to me she always seemed like more of a mash-up of lex luthor and carmen san diego.
like carmen she constantly flits around the map leaving bread crumbs and taunting us as we follow them. always several steps ahead of the heros never revealing her true motivs. the lex luther super genius megalomaniac thing is probably the most “tacked on” feeling part of her and probably the only trait that puts her in conflict with the heros.

she just had to know and comprehend all of existence as though the only thing keeping her from being free was not knowing. and when she could finally see everything she wanted to know, she was confronted with the knowledge that free will was sort of an illusion, that her destiny was a mundane one laid out by forces much bigger than her. this revelation + the weight of her own potential + the side effects from that procedure that some how gave her the perspective of gods = a warped mortal mind. thus she comes to the very juvenile conclusion that if she cant get what she wants then everyone has to pay. she will assert her free will on the fabric of reality it’s self in an attempt to skirt her destiny.

in the short story where this takes place scarlet proceeds to commit her first real act of evil. before she was mostly neutral (that thing with Teyo wasn’t an alignment shifter to me) until killing her mentor with red briar vine things that she can apparently manifest and control. is this the secret to her power is this how she coerces entire armies to do her bidding? or is she just so strapped with over powered tech like her ultra-convenient teleporter that allowed her access to one of the most militarized cities on the planet, DR. she just seems to show up somewhere and commandeer the assets of what ever evil enterprises she can get her hands on. the twisted watchworks and the steam creature are the most mysterious addition to her horde.

a comment on the schematics for one of the watchknights found in her lab in the tower of nightmares, seemed to imply that the creation of the watchknights interfered with her overall plans, that attacking divinity’s reach and confiscating them was an adaptation of her plan.
all this to serve as a means to a well thought out and destructive end. or so we are meant to believe this overarching agenda that scarlet is supposed to have is the hardest part of the story to buy. if i had not read that short story i would absolutely hate scarlet rather than just being frustrated with her.

when asking: who, what, where, when, why and, how. its easy to understand why people dont like scarlet.

who: scarlet briar
what: super villain sylvari
where: everywhere anywhere whenever no consequences
when: a couple years before gw2 til present
why: to remake reality. but into what? something bad i guess.
how: who knows! all these so called “threats to tyria” just seemed to be abandoned experiments by scarlet populated with confused minions left holding the bad on what they thought was their new criminal enterprise. the recurring theme is taking a little bit of everything tyria has to offer and combining it into a new power. but that is so vague. nothing seems to be connected directly and its very frustrating. right now we have the mysterious probes which seem to be everywhere from QD to EB to CS. what do they do? what do they have to do with anything we have seen or dealt with before? we dont know.

it all seemed to me like scarlet is supposed to be like scarlet wasn’t supposed to be liked. and thats when it hit me. her role is that of the bad guy pro wrestler who cheates when the ref tuns his back and uses barred holds and taunts the crowd. gets the crowd so kitten ed of that they dont realize the are watching sweaty 300lb performance artists straddle each other. once i stopped looking to scarlet for the depth and complexity i would want from my ideal antagonist i realized that scarlet is a distraction the we are meant to love to hate while the people at Anet figure out how to deliver epic content with the living world strategy.

i honestly hope we don’t kill scarlet, well in the story sense at least. gameplay wise i want to kill scarlet 100 times over. but in terms of story i hope they clip scarlets wings. take away her overwhelming superiority. having her fall from on high like icarus would give her more depth. i would love to see a defeated scarlet broken physically as well as mentally with mechanical implants keeping her alive, as she skulks and plots to rise again. it would be cool to move on to another villain like caudecus or someone new. then when their plot is foiled out of the shadows comes a humbled and bitter scarlet with a proposition. things like main baddies teaming up are only possible once you’ve built a rogues gallery for your heroes.

dear Anet please out line the availability of ALL the wintersday minis for us here or on the live stream. i missed last years winters day due to a bad power supply so my grasp of what was available last year and how they were acquired is not strong. im a mini collector and i would really like to know which minis will not be obtainable.

so i noticed that kiel won since i got a mail telling me so. nothing else in the game (other than maybe being unable to vote) seems to have changed yet reflecting the out come. granted its the day before patch. but the candidates seem unaware of the election status. im still receiving support tokens. the master of peace is still telling them they need their people support. no acceptance speech. i hope then will be something like this tomorrow after patch.

i think we picked the right person for the job. in both cases. Evon Gnashblade is the Only person who can run the Black Lion Trading Company. if he was elected he would have had to split his attention between the BLTC and his duties on the Captains Council or let Sareb take over completely. i think it would be interesting to see what Evon does now that he is defeated. surely hes not done trying to gain influence in Lions Arch. plus i don’t trust Sareb. no salad is that quiet.

it doesnt matter if the dragon is really dead or not what matters is after all the build up all the dynamic events and personal story missions, the conclusion was disappointing unsatisfying and anticlimactic. if they plan on keeping zhaitan dead then put a dynamic event inside his fallen corpse where we go in and destroy his heart to keep him from rising again or something. if they decide to have him survive then let me make sure that kittener is dead. final blow. coup de grace. double tap. kill confirm.

I love finishers and i use them. i even made sure to get the explosion finisher because it was awesome. finishers are one of the things i love to collect and show off in guild wars 2.

For me however minis are on an entirely different level. i want them ALL! though amazing changes like the currency wallet and the perma-finishers only serve to further convince me that updates to how minis are carried and displayed are just around the corner, the fact that finishers came first make me wanna prod you guys along just a bit.

so here’s what i’m thinking, and i know these are not original ideas.

  • minis panel like WoW.

Not my favorite idea but certainly not a bad one.

  • mini slot in character pane with a show/hide check-mark, like helm/shoulder/backpiece .

This is the one i prefer because i like to carry around a group of minis the fit a theme, like all moas or all golems or beauties and beasts (all charr and humanoid females). if we go the WoW route i will be denied this simple pleasure. plus it would diminish the individuality of GW2. to me having all my minis all the time with no penalty to inventory kinda feels a little too casual. we should be penalized for taking mini pets with us because tyria is a place where only the strong survive. thus you only carry what you need unless you are powerful enough to do what you want. translated into gameplay: why would you bring a mini pet with you if you are short on bag space? that slot would be better used for food or alt equipment or loot until you earn enough bag space to carry cosmetic items. a WoW-esque mini pane would weaken minis as a status symbol and i don’t want that. (i assume everyone has an invisible bag.)

  • something i haven’t thought of or read about. anybody have other ideas?

I don’t understand. We shouldn’t vote for a fractal we want to see because Anet can screw it up? Is this your point?

i didnt say “screw it up” what i was talking about is personal preference and over hyping. when you vote, you should consider that you may be voting for something that you could end up disliking, or that doesn’t live up to expectations you had formed. i thought about all this before i made up my mind which to vote for.

my main point is that we the players have a chance to play dev. and some times cool concepts dont translate into cool gameplay. i want people to vote because they have thought about how the dungeon would play out, how the story would be represented, what types of new encounters and mechanics could be thrown at us. and whether or not the could run that dungeon over and over and still have fun.
i want people to put more thought into it than ‘hey that sounds neat.’
the last thing we need is another fractal no one wants to do.

we will not get both.

many of us will run this fractal hundreds of times. which would you rather see multiple times?

if you don’t know the existing lore you may want to familiarize your self. those who have will be expecting new story content and the old lore may not be fully explained.

when it comes out what if you don’t like it? which could you love to hate the most?

yeah sure the fall of abaddon would be cool to see and participate in. thats how i truly feel. thats also how i felt when i was told i would get to slay an undead elder dragon but when it came time to do so it was all a bunch of bland turret spamming followed by a dubious and unsatisfying victory. this isn’t a story mission once per char its a rinse and repeat fractal. i mean imagine doing the zhaitan fight over 100 times. ultra epic earth shattering events like this are too important to be a fractal, put it in a book so my mind can set the scale. how would you feel if it became the new dredge fractal? are you prepared to fear and despise it?

what does sound fun however is the untrodden territory of the thaumanova reactor. chaos magic and unlimited possibilities. maybe we fight inquest, maybe we fight steam creatures. maybe we get teleported to an entirely different place in space/time. perhaps we are get confronted by our evil counterparts from a parallel tryria. one thing i think we can expect however is a much needed update to mysterious guild wars two lore that has been taunting me since beta. we might even get some new game mechanics out of it. even if it turns out to be less than we had hoped, another reason to fear and despise the inquest for their transgressions is just fine with me.

one of the main things i think was missing from the achi system since launch is the inability to link achi’s in game or view the achievements of friends. im very excited about the new UI though i dont remember them mentioning these features in the post. it would be great if we could show off the actual achievements them selves.

change how points are awarded, dont change how points are awarded, just make achievements more fun and shiny! thats all i want.

i honestly dont care about the points or the rewards. (not yet anyway) but what i do care about and will continue to care about in the future is The Achievements Them Selves! to me the points are meaningless to compete over in any serious way. because doing dailies is boring and not worth bragging about. because challenging achis are not represented in their point value. when the rewards are released, if i even like anything available then i will care about points until my goal is reached.

as for the proposed solutions there are some good and fair ideas out there. but personally they can completely remove all achi points from my account and i would still pursue achievements like crazy because those actually tell a story of the types of adventures i’ve had in the game.

a mix of systems seems entirely possible. however i think i would prefer a static ladder of rewards. one that shows me what i will get when my score gets high enough. one that allows me to focus on the achievements rather than what kind of rewards ill be getting and how. i’m an achievement hunter. even without the rewards i would still be trying to maximize completion. therefor an overly complicated reward system would only hinder my play style.

so i just read the blog post thingy and im not fully getting it.
at first it sounded like rewards were given as achi point thresholds were reached.
then i see that stuff like gold, boosters, and other such things are also up for grabs.
this leads me to believe that, unless these are one time rewards attained at a certain sum of points, achievement points will be used as another form of currency.

i doubt that achi points will become a premium account currency because:
a- getting rewards for hitting milestones seems simple and engaging
b- GW2 needs no more currencies there’s enough already.

the new achievement UI sounds amazing. its gunna be real sweet to be an achi monger in GW2.

how do you guys want your achi rewards?

the norn transformations are bad on purpose. none of the racials were intended to be viable. they are just for flavor nothing more and thats how the devs want it. that being said having the norn transformations be permanent toggle able or last as long as a tonic would be sweet for RP and would make the race more distinct from humans as you would see norn fighting in animal form or running around lions arch transformed. would almost make up for the camera while jumping in puzzles.

i too love the (what do you call them skits, npc events?) content like this that makes the living world/story seem more alive. however on my server these scenes are broken and no longer cycle. i think there was a reset that restored the dialogue and such but it broke again soon after.

atleast i got to see it first hand. i assume a few wont be so lucky.

If what ive heard about the future of cantha is accurate then i feel i must weigh in. We need cantha. maybe not now but, we at least need it to be on the horizon along with elona.

If the the reasoning behind the possible exclusion of cantha is racial and cultural in nature then there is an incredible double standard taking place. Why, for instance, are Asian themes not okay but Scandinavian themes are fine?

In my opinion if one race or culture is not okay then none of them are. Likewise, if one race or culture is acceptable all of them are.

The act of all but ignoring cantha or elona would be a grievous amputation of rich and exciting branches of the living narrative of guildwars 2. I am sorry to say that if there is no future for cantha and elona in a playable sense then my desire to play will be greatly diminished.

I hope i speak for many of us.
