» My current Guild Wars 2 game annoyances
(edited by krojack.4920)
I seem to get more level 400 crafting items when I have my set on (~43% magic find) but I don’t notice anymore rare items dropping.
(edited by krojack.4920)
The bird attacking animations seems to make them appears as though they take FOREVER to get to the mob and attack.. Anyone else notice this? Are they slower at getting to the target or is it the same as a cat?
19 * 3 = 57 silver minus (max travel cost —> 10 silver) = 47 silver profit for little work.
Ummm, 1 node = 3 ore.
(19 * 3) * 3 = 171 silver or 1 gold 71 silver.
What crafting did you pick-up? I choose Huntsman and Leatherworking. I made my entire Berserking armour set and then made the Berserker’s Pearl Needler shortbow. Worked out perfectly if you ask me.
My biggest complaint is that the prices are unbalanced. I can go across that map for almost the same cost as going across a single zone. And it should NEVER cost money to TP after a death, repair costs are enough.
I’m ok with the nearest waypoint being free of cost if you’re dead.
You are apparently not level 80 then – or haven’t traveled to or between different sides of the game world. I’m in Malchor’s Leap right now and it would cost my level 80 4.5 silver to get to CoF – it’s over 5 if I’m in Cursed shore.
You could sell three of those Orichalcum ore you picked up to cover the cost with some left over. That is you you spend the three seconds it takes to mine the node. If not then you deserve to run out of money and be stuck out in the middle of nowhere.
I travel all over using waypoints, I would bet I spend about 30 silver a night on my Ranger. I also die a lot in WvW so that’s money going out for repair cost. I still have money coming in faster then it’s going out. All I do is sell Orichalcum ore, Ancient Wood and Omnomberries. I’m at 14 gold and climbing. If you ask me, this renders anyone that has a level 80 argument invalide. Just think, if I had two level 80’s then I could DOUBLE my income from these three gathering items.
(edited by krojack.4920)
Also while the Jaguar is stealthed, it has 100% chance to crit. Yes the mobs will come at you but you can be prepared for it. I do this:
Drop a Frost Trap
Crippling Shot → Signet of the Hunt → F2 → Quickening Zephyr → watch mobs melt.
If the frost trap gets triggered, circle around it keeping the mob in it and slow on them for the entire duration of the trap.
Use Concussion Shot and/or dodge if the mob starts to get to close.
If there is more than one mob, I try to target the furthest one within range and put all the other between me and him before doing the above.
I don’t get it… I myself leveled and didn’t have a single problem with money and using waypoints BEFORE the game had any sort of economy built up. I NEVER sold anything on the trade post to make money and never bought any using gems. All my income was from doing quest and leveling. I was still able to buy all my class training manuals right at levels 11, 40 and 60 with more than enough money left over to keep using waypoints.
What the hell are you people doing (or lack thereof) to not have any money? It’s 100 times easier to make money now then 3 days after pre-launch.
Waypoint travel cost are fine @ level 80. Stop being so lazy and make some money.
Some facts for those complaining.
So fearing an enemy off a cliff, interrupting his casting with a pounce ability, bleeding, poison, blinding, chilling, cleansing of debuffs, etc, all at the push of a button… Is useless to you.
Excuse me, I need to call my therapist. I just lost my faith in humanity. Again.
What you say is true if they weren’t all so easy to avoid.
- Bleeds, poisons and chills don’t last long enough IMO. I’m almost perma slowed by warriors.
- Fears and pounce interrupts are easy to avoid if you’re watching the pet due to their slow and long animations before using these abilities.
Pets in PvP are really only useful for 1v1 fights (and that’s limited) or just to stand next to you and remove debuffs or apply buffs to you.
<snip>What are you ranting about? Reread my post. I never suggested different waypoint costs for different people. It should all be uniform for all.
It is… It just scales with level. Waypoints cost the same for all level 80’s.
I find it’s a pain to report big groups like that. They need to add a little image next to their nameplate flagging it as reported (for you only). Trying to make sure you reported them all isn’t easy.
To be fair, the jump back not working 100% of the time is not specific to rangers. Any other prof that has a similar mechanic on a skill will experience this problem if the terrain gets in the way. The thief’s shortbow, for instance, does the exact same thing.
<snip>
To me it seems to not jump back when the mob is standing on top of me or nearly right on top of me. Gotta love just jumping up and down in place… I always laugh then rage a few seconds later.
I have been 80 for quite awile, have about 5000 kills in WvW so i know what im talking about…
The pets are pretty much useless in WvW or PvP…
so….
Please make a “petless” route viable, please dont say “well they have a pet so we cant buff this”
Because the pet is ONLY worthwhile in PvE, once we are 80, who cares about the pet.
Yes they are useless (right now) but I would rather have them fix the pet system than make a petless build. Heres to hoping their so called coming changes will do something about this.
PVE wise, Eagle does more damage
PvP Wise, Raven is better, followed by Owl
Raven’s Ability hits the hardest, and applies a blind…. Owls hits slightly harder then Eagles and applies a Chill.
If you’re swapping birds in combat with the AOE vigor Talent then you generally want to open with Owl Followed by switching over to Raven and F2ing…
Then is a large amount of burst you can land on someone very quickly.
The Bleed from the Eagle Attack is mediocre but it does more DPS then The other two by far…..So use it in PVE, use the others for PvP.
Jaguar is also a good pick for PVE.
For the crit build I’m still finding Jaguar to be best damage. Mine hits on average for 1.4-1.5k and often crits for 2k. This is PvE btw. I rarely use pets in WvW unless I’m in a 1v1 fight.
Ummm, birds have same stats as cats but more vitality. So Id say cats die more easily
Jaguar has best threat drop. I use it’s stealth all the time. Easiest dps pet to keep alive if you ask me.

If you have to work back your waypoint costs then they are too high.
But you have to work back all costs, so that’s no argument at all.
You should be able to use them and play normally without fear of going broke. Play how you like, remember that? That doesn’t mean grind 15 minutes to use waypoints.
You can play normally without fear of going broke. Case in point, all the people who play normally but aren’t complaining in this thread.
“Play how you like” obviously isn’t meant to be taken 100% literally, because I’m sure lots of people would like to play without having to pay in-game coin for anything but epic-looking gear or whatever, and yet we’re all fine with the fact that they can’t.
“play how you want” for me means that i get to do what I want without having to significantly alter my game play to do that. Say I get an hour (sometimes more) a day to play. Now I want to use a waypoint. Now I have to factor in break even farm time into the game? That isn’t playing how I want. They say that is a gold sink but actually that is a gold treadmill. You’re running to stand still.
What if i have a friend or guildie on the other end of the map? I should just be able to go and help him/ play together. Instead of checking my bank balance.
Now what is my alternative? Run across the map. Well the map is really big. Yes, I can forfiet a huge chunk of my play time and treck across it, but it isn’t fun and it isn’t playing how I like. IF I do that then its just going to be me running past stuff, not enjoying it or participating. If I stopped to smell the roses, I’d never get anything done that I wanted to.
Waypoints should either be free or cap out at a nominal amout, say 50 copper. Actually at 50 copper, I’d use them much more frequently, so they’d still be a gold sink. They just wouldn’t be prohibitive. Using waypoints is not supposed to be punitive.
You can’t have a game where everyone has a different set of rules so they can “play how they want”. You get free waypoints where others have to pay and so on just doesn’t work. If you want to take it that far then I want to play like I want and get level 80 with all the best gear the second I create a character and be stacked with 1000 gold. TO much? Ok then, how about I want everyone to farm for me so I don’t have to and just give me the items? Maybe that how i want to play. Still doesn’t work? Gee I wonder why.
P.S. How’s that Obama Phone working for ya?
The title says it all really.
At lvl 80, a single teleport to distant area of the world map costs more than you get as a reward for filling out a renown heart.
5 such teleports could buy you an ectoplasm. 1 teleport is the equivalent of a single piece of orichalcum ore.
It’s simply not fun to have to ask myself how much farming I’ll have to make up for later because I’m helping a friend with his personal story quest and there’s a few teleports involved. It’s not fun to have to figure out whether or not I’ll end up losing money if I port to an old area to fill out the renown heart or whether it only makes sense to run. It’s not fun to play teleport-gambling so that when your buddy tells you a dragon is up, you have to be lucky with the drops in order to offset the freaking cost of teleporting to the event.
I understand the game needs gold sinks. I’m not even against the idea of there being a (small) fee for teleporting around the map. But when you have a player wondering whether spending the next 15 minutes of his time in a game will end up hurting him financially just because he’s finished his most recent activity, you’ve gone too far.
Have you not yet learned that they want to keep as much gold out of the economy as possible? Once you get some gold built up (5+) then you really don’t even think twice when porting all over… Mine all the Orichalcum ore nodes in the three zones and sell it. That’s about 40s a day. Add in the Ancient Wood and Omnomberry nodes and you will have several gold after a few days. It takes about 30-45 minutes to gather all the nodes.
Whispers Medium
Krytan Armour (gemstore)both of these sets i find look amazing for medium.
^^
Yeah I had to swap some gold for gems and buy this because all the other armour on my Ranger looked like garbage. Still not as cool as some of the other armour I see around but the best I can get.
@krojack
A friend and my SO recommended SWToR, so I hopped in. I admit that game was great with storytelling and immersion to the Star Wars universe (but I hear SWG was the best-est). What killed the game for me was PvP. It reminded me why I gave up on WoW — you have to grind for the better gear, and if you don’t, you’re screwed. I can’t emphasize enough of how happy I am with GW2’s PvP system.
True however Huttball was the best thing for PvP since sliced bread.
Most of the time people are considerate enough to see that they brought their train down on you and will stop kill of at least slow them down so you can escape. I find very few people just keep running.
I use to notice this but it seems to be dropping off. Just last night I didn’t have a single person that brought their train to me help, they just kept running as if I wasn’t even there.
This is because of two things:
1. The excessively fast respawn rate for mobs. Stopping to kill them could be a never ending task. You’re best to just run through and ignore them.
2. The amount of mobs that are grouped up so close together. You pull one and 3 others come OR you’re a pet class and your pet pulls 5 extras. This along with #1 can really cause headaches and in my case rage. If you don’t get extra mobs, killing them one at a time ‘can’ take so long that the first ones will start re-spawning putting you in a never ending killing loop.
This can be fixed by either adjusting the respawn rate a little more or making it so mobs that someone else aggroed won’t attack you unless you do some type of damage to them.
@Sarthersis: There’s also SWToR which is a clone to WoW. But then again, maybe you’re getting tired of MMOs in general.
TOR? Oh man, that was one of the worst MMO failures ever. Well second worse. FF14 was #1 (reason why it’s being remade) TOR was put on such a high pedestal then fell flat on it’s face. I blame 90% of this on EA and Bioware though. The game had great potential though.
Enemies get Invulnerable when they cannot reach you, it’s an anti-exploit mechanism that I’ve seen in other games.
It comes up more often against melee enemies since they’d have to follow a path to you rather then fire off ranged attacks. If the path isn’t available, they’ll become invulnerable until you move to a position where they can engage you.
^^^ This..
If anyone of you played WoW this also happened in that game. It’s working as intended to prevent you from killing things that can’t get to you.
Thanks very much for the update – I am greatly relieved that Anet recognise that there are areas for the ranger that need to be improved and that they do not hate us!
Honestly I would have to wait to see before tossing out the ‘thank you’ messages. I mean, it seems they thought the SB skill #1 needed improvement and look how that turned out.
These Ranger fixes will be the make or break in my choice to stay with GW2 or move on to something else.
<snip>I’m going to run the Speed one no matter what, You can’t do World vs World without 10% run speed.
I’ve been playing with various different skills on my Ranger and have come to the conclusion that I can’t do WvW without the 10% passive run speed skill on my bars. Even with it I feel like I’m the slowest runner in the zerg when no run speed boon is active on anyone.
Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor.
<snip>Jon
Now why can’t we get post like this more often? Maybe not from you directly but someone at ArenaNet that works with you that can relay information like this more often. I have literally felt like I’ve been in the dark ever since game launch. It’s like no one really seems to care about the Ranger community players.
Now that I have some into in my mind I feel better. I will admit I read the patch notes and didn’t see a single change for Rangers and right then I about blew my top and within minutes of just quitting the game. Luckily I came to the Ranger forums before doing so.
I hope these updates and/or changes make me feel more useful, primarily in dungeons.
One hour left for Oct. 22 (for me anyways) and still nothing.. Might as well have said Oct 23rd and not get us all excited..
Good night and I’ll just have to check and hope it’s live tomorrow.
By the way, how were queues on JQ and IoJ? On SBI, had insta-pops on borderlands most times Saturday and Sunday. A few out-manned buffs as well.
/SBI native
I would guess 45-90 minute long on JQ for the times I had to queue up.
Please for the love of God, put a confirmation on this or remove it. I don’t know anyone that uses it and countless that have miss click and screwed up their bag sorting…
(edited by krojack.4920)
I’ve been doing a lot of WvW this weekend and I’m about to rage all over from this obstructed bug. It seems to be a 50/50 chance that if I pop Rapid Fire or use Quickening Zephyr that almost every shot will be “obstructed” even though the target was clearly right in front of me.
Today 2012-10-21 I have been seeing invisible players again. No where near what it was a while back but just a few random invisibles here and there. In EB I had fireballs coming down at me from up on a cliff top. Was an invisible Ele up there attacking me.
I have also experienced some delayed load times along with seeing a player however they have no name tag over their head. I click on them and BAM, red name tab appears. So now when I see that I’m freaking out because I don’t know if they are friend or foe.
Yeah I’m not a fan if this… sigh
The chest I receive, will they always remain in my bags even after the event or will they go away when the event is over? I won’t be buying keys so I’ll most likely sit on the chest till I happen to get a key.
Also if I do get a key 4 months later and open a chest will it still drop halloween items even though the event is over?
(edited by krojack.4920)
P.S. Allow movable unit frames while you’re at it. Having my targets health frame at the top-center give me a headache (yes it really does) after a while of playing. Moving the frame down near my own health frame makes more sense.
=)
I mean sure it’s fine to vent everynow and then, about how we get frustrated with some aspects of the game, but some people come to the forum to let their ideas battle, like an arena? Really? Like if you state a particular frustration with a certain aspect, somebody replies with a suggestion or tip to overcome it, and the first thing that pops in your head is to fiercely defend what you stated and not even… i don’t know, try a different approach to it? I digress…
This is fine and I agree however some people’s suggested ‘fix’ isn’t always the right fix. For example: I’ve had people tell me, “Just use a range pet in dungeons.” If this is the fix then it’s obvious that melee pets, mainly DPS ones, have issues. Second, range pets can have a similar problem. They start to attack thus just stand in the one spot and attack while you move around to stay out of AoE or away from the boss. The pet will die unless you non-stop keep calling it back to you thus causing you to keep call back, attack target, call back, attack target. This lowers your overall DPS and your pets.
So before reset JQ there weren’t any queue times on JQ or they were very short. After reset and because they’re fun stuff to do, queue times are a good 1.5 hours. Makes me sad all those bandwagoners wasting all those spots for the original JQ players.
QQ…..QQQ…QQQQQ…. You heard it right….. QQQQQ…
This pretty much forces players to run through huge groups of mobs because killing things on the way to your destination is not feasible. Then other people get hit by the big group being trained by the guy running through. It’s a giant cluster-kitten of kitten proportions.
Yup, happened to me last night. I was working my way though Malchor’s Leap getting the wood and ore nodes when a Thief ran past me with a huge group of mobs on him (one a veteran) then he vanished/stealthed. All the mobs turned and jumped me. I died within seconds.
ummmm, if all the respawn rates throughout the entire game are messed up, isn’t that kind of a bug? you really think this is not a huge issue? it is not in certain places, it is gamewide.
I only notice the fast respawns in Orr, mainly Malchor’s Leap and Cursed Shore. Now I can handle myself, I’m full exotic geared and solo kill anything lower than a champion without a problem but non-stop chain spawning (depending on the mob type) or getting to many on me is still going to kill me.
Used to happen to me a lot, now I’m more efficient at killing mobs so it stopped being a problem.
Still happens to me now. I can mow down pretty much anything so this respawn rate is nothing more than an annoyance and blood pressure raiser at times.
I honestly just don’t think anet know how to properly control it. I mean they can’t even make the Orichalcum, Ancient Wood or Omnomberries spawn in random locations without rebooting the servers. It’s sad that every server has an online zone map pointing out the locations and gets updated within hours of a server reboot.
Booooooring.
Common fight back!
Why don’t you transfer over to SBI? You will always have a constant fight! Win win!
with that kind of attitude, i dont want him in SBI.
No attitude at all. I remember the WoW Wrath days in Wintergrasp when every single battle involved our faction graveyard camping the other faction. It was beyond boring and I even stopped going to the battles.
I have stopped going to WvW for this same reason now. I would consider transferring but I’m to tied in with my guild and friends on this server. At least with this game, I can log-in and just chat with my friends and not have “I’m paying $15 a month just to chat” on my conscience.
I enjoy my ranger for the most part. I only have three primary complains.
- Players being able to strafe back and forth and dodge every single ranger bow attack.
- Ranger sword auto-attack (1) locks player in place preventing quick dodge/evading.
- Ranger pets die way too easily in dungeon boss fights from AoE. Make pets take at least 75% reduced AoE damage.
The 3rd being my biggest.
Don’t hold your breath. They haven’t done squat with Rangers but beat them down over the past 4 months.

Booooooring.
Common fight back!
This is pretty sad and it’s only Wednesday morning. I personally blame the free transfers and all the people that want to “win” going over to Jade Quarry.
WvW isn’t fun like this either for any side, the controlling or the losing.
This is a combination of data issue decision on Anet’s part and a bug.
The numbers of pets available plus the numbers of rangers equal a lot of storage so the defaulted to only being able to name the current active pet slots (2 land+2 Water). Then the current slot name can be reset to the default when selecting a new pet or taming a new pt.
Yet this isn’t a viable excuse for Anet. The names could be stored client side and when you switch to a pet in the pet window (k), the players client just submits that new pets name to the server. The server should only need to store the 4 pets you have selected so switching pets using F4 wouldn’t require the client to send the name to the server.
Also storage is cheap. I’m pretty sure I could store the entire database of pet names for all Ranges playing GW2 on my phone’s 64 gigs of space.
I’m going to assume on the HIGH end here…
UTF-8 with 1 bytes/character:
19 characters/pet name = 19 bytes/pet (very hard math here)
44 pets = 836 bytes/Ranger for all pets.
1,048,576 bytes in 1mb
1,254.2 Rangers = 1mb of pet name data.
This doesn’t include extra space used by whatever database Anet uses to store it’s data.
In the end, I personally find the “it would take too much space” excuse to be a very poor one.
6 rangers and 1 thief vs 8 “good classes”.
And yes thats after the patch!
Time for a Thief nerf looks like.
Out in Frostgorge it’s a train of warrior bots farming the snow trolls with one ranger.
Rangers are more on the low end damage wise compared to other classes but over all they aren’t THAT bad. Sure they do need a lot of work (and skill changes reverts) but I still enjoy my ranger.
What I want fix and fixed soon are the following and in this order:
Most pets in dungeons are useless for DPS. You need to use a range pet else it will die almost right away. You’re even forced to babysit your range pet to keep it as close to you as possible so it doesn’t end up in some random AoE and die within seconds.
When I run dungeons I mainly just use a Red Moa for it’s 20% crit buff and keep it next to me and never attacking. If I know I can send it in to attack and be generally safe I will but I keep an eye on it’s health. If the help falls below 50% I call it back. Why 50% and not something like 20%? Because there is a big delay in calling your pet back to you.
Pet DPS output is perfectly fine assuming it can stay on the mob and alive. A dead pet or not using a pet is almost a 40-50% DPS loss for the Ranger class. Pretty sad if you ask me.
I’m running Chrome Version 22.0.1229.94 m and it’s working fine. Do you have a lot of extensions running? If so try turning them all off to see if that fixes it. If so then start turning them on one at a time till things break.
Also try clearing the browser cache. For windows the easiest way to do this is to press “Ctrl+Shift+Del” together and uncheck every box execpt “Empty the cache”.
14 days after forwarding to the web site dev team and still not fixed.
Hire me and I can fix it faster.
I know it’s currently 24 hours and this isn’t that bad however I would like to see it lowered to say 20 hours.
Reasons: If I do my gathering run at 9pm then I have to make sure i’m at @ 9pm the next night. If the respawn was lowered to 20 hours then that can give a little flexibility. If I or someone else can’t get on at 9pm but can at 7pm then they can still make the run.
I was about to yank my hair out at trying to get 100% on the Frostgorge map one day. Come to find out the POI I needed was UNDER a Heart thus hiding. I don’t know if fixed that yet. IT shows up on the Guidlhead.com map.
I made roughly 2-3 gold in an hour at Orr. I never once had to use a waypoint, never once had to pay for repairs, and only sold on the TP. Making money isn’t hard, you all just expect to get legendaries by moving everywhere.
I’m curious as to what you do in Orr to make 2-3 gold in an hour. I would be interested in also trying this.
