<snip>This means their pets die very fast, and they don’t help allies when they need to.
<snip>
When I quit back in mid December, it still a bad problem with pet reaction time. I always had a problem with pets being mid-attack and I would command it to return to me but it would take several seconds to respond (if it did) then slowly run back to me. Most of the time it was too late and some attack killed it. This was mainly to do game design. Once any animation starts, it can’t be stopped till it completes. Other games allowed you to do something mid-animation which would then cancel the rest of the ability so you can move.
Ranger skill #1 for sword would almost lock you in place. Has then been addresses?
I’m considering coming back and giving the game another try.

Let me guess, another nerf masked as an animation bug fix?

Pets still are pretty useless in dungeons as a dps tool. You’re forced to use a weaker range pet rather then a more powerful melee one.

3 1/2 months since the Oct. 23, 2012 post that changes are coming. Not w word since then. If you’re still hanging on to some little spec of hope then chances are you will be forever. Move on to another class or cough something else. I moved on and am having leaps and bounds of more fun and for free I might add. I stopped wasting my life away here hanging on to that thread of hope. Granted I visit once in a while to see what’s going on.
Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble.

I’m working on getting my 5th character to level 80, yet I’ve never been bothered by respawn timers. They’ve never held me back.
Sure there were times when I went into a cave to get a skillpoint challenge and had to fight some on the way back out. That’s not a big deal and how often does that happen?
I’ve only had problems with the fast respawn time in level 80 zones.

NO NO NO NO…. I left wow because DAMAGE METTER….. ADDONS!!!! DECURSIVE!!!! HEAL BOT….. and many outhers addons…..
I want play and be happy…. and no one telling me what i need to do… the best build is it…. the best rotation is it….. omg NO NO NO
GW2 =/= WoW so your comment for the most part doesn’t apply here. You don’t need those tools unless you’re killing hard mode bosses which require every extra point of damage you can put out even if it’s not exactly how you want to play.
This game on the other hand doesn’t have raids. It’s limit is 5 man dungeons which don’t require you do do max damage. There is a huge different in GW2 end game and WoW end game which people don’t seem to grasp.

I would like to know how the following addons would “enable bad players”
A bag addon
– Something like ArkInventory. That thing is the best ever at helping you keep your bags organized. Don’t even tell me to buy the special bags. I got some and it’s not even close to being the same.
A chat addon
– Prat 3.0. The beauty in customizing your chat windows is awesome. Setting up notification rules with sounds when someone says a word or your name. Having a custom sound when someone whispered you.
Unit Frame Addon
– Pitbull allowed you to move and change the appearance of your health, your targets and pets frame. You can put then where ever you want on the screen. That’s just a drop in the bucket however they did nothing that wasn’t already on the screen so they gave no advantage.
I find myself getting a headache going from my targets health frame at the top to my health frame at the bottom all the time in GW2. I want to move my targets frame to the bottom near mine AND I want to add buffs/debuffs to my pets frame.
<sarcasm >On dear God, those make the game TO EASY! Can’t allow those addons!

Anet already gave an OFFICIAL answer and said this is just “TEMPORARY”
So don’t worry, is not stupid, it wasn’t an exploit or else. Just wait a little (or a lot, who knows).
Ah thanks. I did some searching but didn’t find anything.

This is a non-issue. Add-ons are not and will not be supported in GW2.
We’re talking about having ArenaNet build one into the game, not an addon.
That would be even less likely to happen than add-on support. They want team work and cooperation, not competition in PvE. If you want a measure of skill, win in sPvP and tPvP.
Exactly how would it be competition if it was a personal DPS meter that only showed you your own DPS? No one else saw yours and you didn’t see anyone elses.

So why was it changed so you can’t preview gear that you can’t wear? I want to link something that looks cool to a friend and he can’t preview it or vice versa.
<Friend> Dude check this weapon out. [weapon]
<Me> Sorry I can’t preview it because ArenaNet won’t let me anymore. sigh

As much as I loved the dps meters in that other game, this game doesn’t really need one due to the fact there aren’t any enrage timers (yet). I would however like to see a personal damage/dps meter for yourself that only you can see. If you’re with some close friends you can just type out in chat or say over voice chat what your meter says.
Personal dps meter would help you fine tune your own build and gear for whatever you’re going for. I would like to see someone argue against this.
P.S. Fix the combat log already!

Addons makes the gameplay so much easier
Exactly why I dislike AddOns, and I love how ArenaNet do not want them in their game.
It’s all because YOU don’t like it even though you don’t have to use them. The whole “I don’t like them so you shouldn’t use them either” excuse.
Ah, the old ‘’I like them so they should be allowed but just because you don’t like it you don’t have to use them’’ excuse.
Exactly like the whole flying mount thing in World of Warcraft, ’’Don’t use it if you don’t like it.’’
You should learn how to play the game without making it easier for yourself with AddOns that aren’t needed. Yes, I’m telling you how to play your own game, because AddOns are just uneeded. That’s why we got people abusing meters, or people abusing macros that makes you do several things with just 1 button press.
Macros would only do 1 thing but you could program in conditions and depending on those conditions it would do something.
One of my most used macros, Sheep/Re-sheep.
If my target wasn’t sheeped:
- It would focus it then sheep it.
If I had a focused target and it wasn’t dead it would re-sheep it.
If I had a focused target and it was dead it would remove the focus.
I used very few combat mods. Most of my mods just made my UI pretty.
In the end, if you think mods make the game to easy they you simply don’t have to use them. Yes this excuse is valid.
Again my whole argument here is if ArenaNet displayed all the information we need on the screen then I’m fine with how the game is. As it is now they don’t display everything that SHOULD BE.
» My current Guild Wars 2 game annoyances
My point still stands. They make the game easy mode. You don’t have to think for yourself anymore cause your addons do that for you. They tell you everything you need to know and what to do. All you have to do is follow orders like a good little user. Cause no one likes a player who doesn’t use addons. Especially in raids.
Combat addons in this game would be irrelevant because it doesn’t extend beyond 5 man dungeons. There are countless other addons that would make this game better. Primarily UI enhancements such as better player, party, pet & target frames. A gear switcher kinda like the armor and town cloths switcher only one that allows you to save sets. A better chat addon for heaven sake. I get whispers from people and miss then half the time. I would like to set a custom sound when someone whispers me.
Like I said in some other post, they need to improve little things or let the player base do it. I can’t stand my pet frame. I can’t even see what buffs/debuffs my pet has without having to target it.
This game’s UI about as bad as Star Wars: TOR when it first came out. It just looks prettier graphic wise.
» My current Guild Wars 2 game annoyances
There is tons of addons in WoW that play the game for you. Just look at Healbot, DBM, that addon that flashes what skills to click at certain times (can never remember the name), XPerl, Gatherer, Auctioner, etc.
All these addons do things for you that you used to do normally. DBM? Don’t need to figure anything out in boss fights anymore. This addon tells you exactly what is coming and when to move and what to do. Healbot? Easy to click bars that do all your healing for you so you don’t have to hotkey and bind everything yourself. Auctioner? Shop from the AH without going to the AH, catch deals before anyone can, etc. Gatherer? No more searching for nodes anymore. Just download the data from the site and it shows you everything on your map. There is even addons that reveal the entire map for you before you even discover it.
Point is, there is tons of addons that do things for you that you would normally have to do yourself. These so called “ease of access” addons actually play WoW for you basically to the point you don’t even have to try anymore.
Those are the kinds of things that we don’t need in GW2. I don’t mind cosmetic addons like something to pretty up your UI. Sure go for it, more power to you. But when addons start doing things for you that require no thinking for yourself, then it’s gone too far.
Again they are not PLAYING the game for you. They are nothing but information timers. If they played the game for you then you could just walk away from your computer and let them play. They will not move you out of fire, they will not heal you, they will not post auctions for you, they will not mine or herb nodes for you.

This is kind of a dead horse topic already, but….
Anet has already stated they won’t allow addon support. And in my own opinion, I don’t really care either way. Addons in WoW played the game for you. I’d hate to see that here.
Incorrect. If they played the game for you then the addon would be banned. All the addons did was add or condense information on your screen to make it easier to see or add UI features that the programmers didn’t bother adding or didn’t have time to. Not a single addon played the game for you.
The real reason AreanaNet won’t allow addons is because it takes a lot of manpower time to program the API and test it. This being a free to play game doesn’t bring in the money like other subscription based games.
I personally believe that a simple addon system that allows you to customize the UI layout of the game would help it a lot.
ArenaNet said from the beginning on, we should play the game, not the User Interface. So it will never(?) be combat-supporting addons, that are telling you “Heal skill ready” or “Low on initiative”.
On the other hand, some not-combat improvements/ addons would be nice. Since there are just few options to customize things. (E.g. Guild-mate logged in/ a clock with seconds/ something was sold on the TP/ whatever just few players would like to have and would spend their own time to get it).
Hell if they just allowed me to move my current target’s health bar frame to the bottom of the screen also give me a kitten better pet frame I would be happy. I can’t even see what buffs/debuffs my pet has without targeting it.

Last night while finishing off my story line in Cursed Shore. As I was working my way around the zone I got to an area and started killing mobs to get though. I killed this one mob and the split second it died, it re-spawned in the exact spot I pulled it from the first time. Killed it and again BAM re-spawned the second it died. This happened 5 times in a row. I literally turned and started to run away after the 5th kill when I noticed it didn’t re-spawn. Go figure.
Like the random loud pet stomping sounds that was said to be fixed months ago and wasn’t, this is still broken as well.

So getting disconnected while in a Fractal run still kicks you out and you get screwed over? Was in a run with a group of friends at the very last boss of one and game over for me.
Disconnects rarely happen to me but I sure feel sorry for those that have them often. Means they can’t even play the game. Should at least put you back at the last checkpoint upon reconnecting.

LOUD pet footstep sounds still going on. Had it happen a good 8+ times last night along to both me and other people in my group. I could have swore this was in a patch note sometimes around Oct that it was fixed.

I’ve been out for a few months. I quit with the hopes some important features and big bugs would be fixed. Some nice fixes seem to have occurred while others are still lacking.
One important feature that’s missing is the combat log still does not show pet incoming or outgoing damage. Why? I find this pretty important.
Second, Why does the combat log not show any damage when attacking target dummy’s? Again seems pretty helpful and also 50% of the point of attacking a target dummy.
I have several other complaints but I’ve all but given up on those by now. The above two could be added in a heartbeat. After all the game client receives this data, it’s just not being displayed in the combat log. very confused

The default respawn rate is 95-120 seconds, so if you’re seeing locations where they respawn much faster, please report it with specific info! Event creatures will often appear more quickly (so the event doesn’t look dead if players kill them immediately) and if players were killing things in the same area, they might respawn near you. (i.e. if a group ran through and cleared an area a minute ago, a lone player might be in the area when their respawn timer comes up.)
Sucks when you have so many mobs packed together that by the time you kill the last few, the first few are already respawning. This is why I won’t go to Orr on my Ranger anymore. The pet running in random crazy directions pulling everything didn’t help either.
Holy frijoles. I’m trying to do this Centaur camp event in Gendarran Fields… I have to break a gate down to fight Rock Dogs.
Had to kill two guard Centaurs 1st – then beat the gate down. Then attacked one Rock Dog – by the time I’d killed the single Rock Dog… the GUARDS AND THE GATE RESPAWNED.
WHAT THE HELL KIND OF DESIGN IS THIS?
Welcome to the headache of this games respawn. Seems they just don’t understand how bad it is.

Bunker guardian isn’t even the best bunker build atm.

What an immature thread.
The reason he was posting on the mesmer forums is likely because the phantasm issue is a lot more game breaking since it’s affecting every weapon combination and is a central class mechanic.
Ranger pets aren’t a central class mechanic?
Are they really necessary to kill anything?
Yes they are. They do a large part of a Rangers DPS when the pet is alive and able to land a hit. Without the pet doing and damage causes the over all Rangers DPS to drop off by a lot. I would estimate about 20-40% lose in damage depending on what trait spec and pet the Range is using.

It’s a bug, not the end of the world. It will be fixed as soon as they can isolate the cause. Don’t stress out folks, I am pretty confident that you will in fact survive
Honestly though, if they had a PTR to run these test on first and allow the community to help then these little things wouldn’t go live and have people deal with them for a week.

- Crossfire: Increased casting time by 40 milliseconds. This was done to fix some glitches in the animation that caused problems with this skill.
No one that I ever saw complained about an animation bug with this skill. Everyone complains about the one-handed sword #1 skill yet nothing has been done about that.
They never explained what this animation bug was and what problem it was causing.
They did acknowledge that there was a DPS lose with this change but their % lose was about half of what the community calculated.
They also did not take into count the DPS lose while QZ was active which was about 25-35% less damage.
I continue to complain about this and will keep doing so till they revert it back or explain what the animation bug was and how it effected the Crossfire skill.
As for buffs, the only buffs given to us were for underwater fighting. I loved how one person made the comment on the forums that at some point the further a Ranger gets from water the more damage you will take. As long as you’re in water you will be fine. =)

Honestly, legendary weapons in this game are nothing more then glorified skins. The amount of work and time taken to get them just don’t justify the small stat increase. Unlike the Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings from Ulduar. That item was so nice that it lasted till heroic weapons from Lich King. I’m level 86 still using my Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest and I killed that heroic dragon in that other game.
Sure this is just my opinion and I’m entitled to it. Others may see it differently and that’s their opinion. I also don’t feel these should be easy to get. They are what they are, time and money sinks.

ArenaNet, taking the one step forward, two steps back to all new levels!
This is why I quit. I’ve seen the fare share of fixing one bug only to break something else but this game is the worse. Not only does it take several times to fix buggy events (and still not really fix them) but they are always breaking other things.
All I can say is, I hope this break is the result of them trying to make it so you can use an ability while in mid-air after jumping but I doubt it.

Well I didn’t play the TP like some others do. Buy high moving items and reposting them. I crafted my entire exotic set and weapons I wanted using Leatherworking and Huntsman. After that I would farm VERY LITTLE, just when I was bored and buy some mats from the TP. Take those and craft exotic weapons and/or armor and then sell them on the TP. I was pulling in about 20 gold a week. Sure this isn’t anywhere near the income from playing the TP, which is a gamble but I made around 140 gold in Oct. I’ve since stopped playing and well I’ve nothing to do with it all.. sad face
Also the more people that play the TP with buying high moving items and reselling them will cause that method to degrade. If there are 10 people doing it, they will become millionaires. If there are 200,000 people doing it then no one will be making anything really.

At one point Ranger was the most close to balanced class, but while rangers got nerfs and nothing, the other classes got improvements and tweaks. Currently Rangers just need something to be good at, since every class has a uniqueness. APART from the ranger.
Mobility – Thief.
Range damage – Warrior.
If they could fix the pets and have them not take so much damage from AoE and also attack while moving then that would be a BIG help for rangers right there.
» My current Guild Wars 2 game annoyances
^I have a theory.
Actually, gold works the same way in economy than items. It is simple: “The more players have gold, the less it worth.”
Let’s imagine that they implement a new way to get gold: “You get 10 gold every 5 ennemies you kill”. Woaaah! It would be fun, wouldn’t it be?
The fact is, everything on TP would increase. Precursors would worth hundred of thousands of gold instead of a few hundred, etc… Well, a general decrease of the value of gold.
But, if gold decreases, then you need more gold. And killing 5 ennemies again and again would become grindy. What I want to say, if that, a good amount of gold with fun and without grind in a game, is impossible to get.
Go play Diablo 3 and your theory will be proven correct. Items there sell from 1 million to 500+ million gold. It’s because so much gold drops from mobs.

Anet says it’s a memory space issue.
seriously?
seems they sure have a lot of memory for everything else they are adding…
Yup, they said it’s not something they will be looking into changing anytime soon. I did some math on about how much space it would use if every ranger used the full 19 characters for all their pet names. I would be able to store all the data in a MySQL table that would fit on a 4gig USB thumb stick.
I’m pretty sure I bought enough gems (sad to admit) from them that would buy then a hard drive.

Soule is a great artist, but after a while everything he does sounds mostly the same (several GW1 and GW2 tracks sounds way too similar to Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights tracks). people who are “playing the market” aren’t.
they are ripping off other players to line their pockets.
“flipping” is not a mini-game.
You just made me spit my drink out laughing. People who don’t know how to use this type of TP/AH are letting themselves get ripped off.
if everyone who was spending all day and night cuddling the TP merchant would actually go out and play the actual game,
there would be plenty of cheap mats in the TP.Anet needs to restrict market manipulation, otherwise everything will just get more and more expensive – flip after flip after flip…
Another “REGULATE EVERYTHING” fix. Really?
So that the TP will be useless for everyone? 90% of items right now sell for 1 copper over what you can sell them to a vendor. If everyone is forced to go out and farm then everything will be like this.
You really think ArenaNet has the time to sit and monitor what people are doing? They are taking long enough to fix important bugs that have been in this game for months as it is.

This has in fact been brought up countless times in the past. They have tweaked it some but it is pretty bad. A lot of it revolves around pet animations. This game can’t do ANYTHING until the current animation has completed. Players and pets. You can’t even jump and while in mid air do an instant skill ability. If you hit F2, the skill gets queued up. Your pet gets interrupted during it’s current animation skill attack then your queued up F2 will fail. You need to mash the button some more.

My Ranger’s longbow “Rapid Fire” get’s obstructed for no reason all of the time. It’s rare when it’s not. It’s the root of all my hate for Longbow.

And this is why I quit doing PvP. I would pop QZ with Shortbow or Rapid Fire on Longbow and it was a 50/50 chance that every shot would be obstructed. What’s the point of having skills when half the time they fail to land hits.
It’s something they should have as #1 on the list of bug fixes if you ask me. It effects many classes but seems to hurt the Ranger the most.

The point is, many events, and some quest/skill challenges require a group or large group of people to complete. It’s already getting to the point people can’t experience the full zone due to no one around to help.
