No offense, but your idea is terrible. It will not do anything you claim, it will just cause people to rage at each other for fast-claiming things because your idea suggests entirely guild benefit and no server benefit.

I would like to see claiming become more worthwhile, but as it stands even though it offers almost no advantages (the buffs are minor and have low uptime) – people already complain about other guilds claiming and not running them. Further benefit being added to it will just exacerbate the problem. Before that can be done, something has to be done to allow ‘rightful’ claiming for whoever may be defending and doing the work.

People are complaining about arrow carts melting their face. There is no superior face to counter that.

I personally don’t feel like the change is as bad as people make it out to be, but time will tell. As for the OPs original concern with balancing siege – I think reducing the damage bonus but amplifying its survivability bonus may be the way to go. 50% is a lot of extra efficiency out of superior siege. Buffing up its hp instead still lets you win treb/cata battles, lets your ballista survive longer while being rushed in a lord room and so on without enhancing the pvdoor aspect as significantly.

The other option is making superior siege so cost prohibitive that you can’t use it everywhere like you can now, and make it so you better REALLY want that objective you’re attacking/defending to warrant using it. Right now the extra cost to make a superior piece of siege (except for Omegas) is basically non-existent. Roughly 3 silver and a skill point, plus an extra blueprint that people have so many badges for its basically free. Increase that 100 (Okay, 100 may be a bit much but for example) fold and people will start being stingy with their superior siege and it won’t be as big a deal.

Its undoubtedly a side effect from how the level scaling is shown in PvE, but nevertheless. I agree that it should be changed so that enemies cannot see it. It makes unnecessary targets out of those players and doesn’t serve any beneficial purpose. For allies, it is worth knowing the strength of your troops, given that they still aren’t up to par.

The only downside I see from removing it from enemies is that there will likely be people boasting about their defeating the underlevels without the definitive proof that that is what they did so they’ll claim anything.

Not to mention it would be strangleholding the supply process, require the removal of all supply camp upgrades and make the lower tiers (and those trying to upgrade anything in them) tedious and unbearable because so much of the playerbase would have to be sitting on camps.

Edit: That said, I wouldn’t mind there being some way that you can actively benefit the supply process further by spreading people out, but it should not make it a necessity as this idea would.

HoD’s night coverage is spotty as well, and we frequently had issue where GoM/NSP would split our BL/EB due to low resistance and before that when DH pretty much had free reign over us for a few hours a night so we feel your pain. We probably have a smaller night presence than GoM and definitely less than SF had, so hopefully it’ll be a bit less pressure for you guys during that time with us around. Heck, FC had us pushed back to our single tower in EB tonight as well, though we were able to bounce back a little more quickly (partly because of the reinforcements from when you kicked us out of your BL).

If its any consolation, it looks like your former oppressors in SF are feeling your side of it, DH/IoJ had them down to ~30 ppt overnight. Its unfortunate, but those coverage gaps largely determine where servers end up.

Its clear there is something going on here… We are so far behind yet FC or HoD refuse to make an aggressive move on each other. Rather, they are just staying neck and neck attacking our(Eradon Terrace) BL and EB territory and pushing us further behind.

The only explanation must either be one of two things:
1. FC and HoD are afraid to anger each other and not want to make a decisive lead
OR
2. ET is far more powerful than either and so they have made a joint venture to suppress ET together.

Don’t think it’s intentional but Ive noticed ET doesn’t upgrade it’s keeps/towers much, so people would gravitate towards the easier cap. Must be hard for those who are spending money to upgrade when others aren’t defending, I’ve definitely been in that position. But I will say ET has some really excellent offensive players, esp their guardians. They just tear right through us. FC also has some really good stacking formations. There’s something for us to learn from each of your servers, so I’m glad to be here

HoD is guilty of being bad about upgrading too. That said, there’s definitely no double teaming going on but it is hard to deny that ET got it rough last night. It still happens everywhere that both heads turn the same way, but FC was shooting for all of EB (though they went ET side first) and some HoD groups kind of pick a keep at random and shoot to hold. We got it rough after our strong push on reset night with both sides in our EB and BL.

As for FC though – you tried but Jerrifers stood strong – we’ll be watching out for you coming for it again later in the week.

Closer the enemies are to the spawn means less running distance to fight something. I don’t personally see a problem with our current strategy.

The only disappointment that I see is that HoD had managed to keep their dirty laundry off the forums for so long, and its all come crashing down. The forums used to be a spectator sport for us for many months, in order, DH v GoM arguments, NSP v NSP arguments (boy were there a lot of these, at least in the times when PAXA still associated themselves with NSP), GoM v NSP arguments and SF v NSP arguments… Our server doing poorly is a trend I’m fine with but hopefully the drama goes away.

Yea, and he calls us kittenes too. In return, we sometimes drop food trays when he’s trying to loot so we can return the favor. He’s not playing favorites here or targeting XOXO or anything. He’s just that personally opposed to consumables.

Merits for WvW Guild Missions?

Easier said then done. You didn’t offer any solution at all, and if you think about it – there probably isn’t an easy one.

WvW Guild Mission on map?
Objective related? ‘My server won’t help me!’ ‘My server is losing too hard to ever achieve this!’ ‘Why is this guild wasting their time going for Woodhaven when we could’ve taken keep’ ‘We can’t complete this WvW mission in EB because our guild can’t get past the queues’.
Non-objective related? Still fighting queues, not contributing anything to your server’s WvW, still has the risk of not being able to access it due to servers poor standing, servermates upset because you’re ignoring objectives and so on.

And if they implement it outside the WvW – then its not really WvW – its just a PvE guild mission with possibly a WvW theme. At that point, you’re just asking for what already exists except you want it without needing to do any map completion.

You still don’t have to do PvE anyway – some of the merit bonuses are nice, sure, but none of them have any direct impact on WvW.

Can’t be doing too bad really, you’re beating BP atm (and must have before to be higher rated). Part of it is map choice – I take it from your comments you’re not intimately familiar with everything WvW.

Try and figure out if your server has a community communication system so you can figure out where people are – which map and which objective.

Or, it could be that you play at unfortunate hours where your servers coverage is worse than your opponents. Its unfortunate, but happens to basically every server at some time.

We’ve been losing forum wars for months and they’re the only ones keeping us in the game now. Its been four pages since anyone else from the server has posted, those are the kinds of coverage gaps that no one can come back from.

You do realize you just stated that in the health regen build, the toughness will live longer with your own math (30s on toughness v 25s on Vit). Following that, your conclusion is that Vitality is better.

The explanations and your own math pretty much follows the difference, ignoring your erroneous conclusion. Vitality will get you more immediate hp to protect from burst, but does very little in a long fight as its just a higher starting point and does not amplify your sustainability.

ET/FC should probably be careful of GoM. Its hard to say when, though. GoM never did well coming out of reset and the weekend but usually stay consistent through the week. If they also bounce back from the low morale it seems like they’ve been suffering and the fact that they love their variety (PvE patches make a distinct hit to GoM’s WvW crew, and I suspect theres a lot of them scrambling to ensure they get their super skins), they can be a real threat. NSP learnt that the first week they came down, where they had a 20-30k point lead on GoM going into Wednesday night/Thursday morning to GoM pushing them out of EB and painting their BL two nights in a row to win the week.

Hopefully A.net updates the rating thread so we know where SF/ET/FC are really at this week, hopefully its in a place where we might see movement between the tiers to keep things fresh.

I’d be curious to know what new HoD recruits think about this tier 7 matchup? Can HoD or any other server compete in higher tiers or would we get blown out by each and every tier 8 servers?

I think we can generally make assumptions based on how NSP was doing previously, and how DH is doing now. Even with new transfers, our weaknesses seem to remain the same (spotty night coverage, being the main one). Our time against DH frequently had us being punished during the night, and I don’t suspect that’ll change as demonstrated by NSPs dominance over EB the previous night.

I think any of the current t7 servers can survive the matchup in t6 now (consider that NSPs rivals that it had held against for many weeks are now in t5) but not necessarily flourish. IoJ and DR may well be at the same level too, so we might be coming into a time of constantly changing matchups which would be refreshing.

DH is probably the strongest server in the two tiers at this point, but we stand a much better chance than we used to. DH is winning by margins over IoJ and DR that they used to beat GoM and us by, so they may all be near the same level. HoD is certainly a little stronger now, but we haven’t really made any gains on NSP during the week (an improvement over losing ground, though), but NSP didn’t beat us by as bad as DH did, and we’re not really winning by as much as DH beat us and GoM, so I think DH still would have the upper hand.

Either way, we may still get better with coordination with our new folks or worse as its just a temporary boost of steam.

It’d probably help the T8 problems actually. All the servers in T7 right now are really tight on rating, and a dominating performance would kick the other two down 50-100 points, putting them much closer than HoD presently is.

That said, I hope it doesn’t happen for the sake of the server I’m on. I rather like where our WvW is right now, and our tier is very balanced – which is a good thing.

Thanks to SCPA and assorted NSP for the grueling siege of longview. Undoubtedly you could’ve gotten more done elsewhere, but I think we’re safe to assume you weren’t in it for the points.

Either way, I think we both got something out of it. You guys got a ton of kills, and HoD got a great learning opportunity in defense and siege busting – something we’re working on as a whole.

New Server

T7 is pretty good right now.

You get a good run of the aspects available. There are some organized groups but a lot of militia. EB frequently has the zerg play while BLs have some soloers, roaming groups, and ninja attacks. Additionally, you get what seems to be the most balanced matchup available in NA WvW at this time and all three servers seem to be quite friendly (no offense to DH, but in recent times we compare to them and they seemed to have a lot more bad mannered players). There’s usually a weekly fight club as well, if thats the kind of thing you look for.

Each server has some pros and cons, as my impressions (not to be taken to heart by those of other servers)
NSP has probably the stronger roaming groups and large zerg guilds in the match up, meaning you should have options to fit your playstyle. However, they’re on a bit of a slide at the moment it seems due to internal drama, though one of the posters above says that clearing up.

GoM seems to have a big playerbase and lots of active guilds of varying sizes. They seem to have the most numbers in the matchup too meaning more impromptu chances to bump into and team up with allies. They seem to have guilds best suited to those who enjoy defensive play, as they like to take a point and hold it. Their downsides seem to be a lot of casual players, meaning your allies may not be everything you hope them to be all the time. Additionally, if you’re looking to have an opportunity to browse the tiers a bit, they’ll on a strong track to move up to t6.

Us at HoD – well, we have a pretty solid server-wide organization which is growing stronger and includes among other things voice chat, some visibility into server strategy and planning and a dedicated set of people who will seemingly do anything to help people get map completion in WvW when needed. We’ve been the underdog for a while but seem to be on a good rebuilding stretch, also our server is only ‘high’ population meaning transferring is cheaper. We also have a lot of people who have rode the sinking ship and are pretty determined. Drawbacks are probably that we have the weakest coverage of the three, and our population PvE wise is quite low as well, which means if you don’t guest, expect to see a lot of contested waypoints, underpopulated events and empty fields.

Fixing the zerg: New objectives, GvG-style

Personally, i think these objectives already excist in the form of Supply Dolyaks, NPC helper outposts (quaggans etc.) and supply camps.

The problem with those objectives is that it’s still more rewarding to just mow them all down with a zerg – at least for the average casual player (like me xP). For them, going dolyak-hunting deep in enemy territory isn’t exactly worth it in terms of time & risk vs reward.

Agreed, it isn’t for the individual player – not so much that the risk is high but the opportunity cost can be. It actually is point-wise though – but there isn’t that much motivation to be working that. Perhaps the progression offerings from the patch will change the first point, at least a little bit.

HoD is having fun. I’m not speaking for the server, obviously, but our group is not playing for second, if anything, we’re playing for third (easy target to hit, too!).

As a token of our friendship GoM, we flipped the entirety of NSP BL (outside of Sunny Hill, somehow golems at their gate would ‘miss’ it) dropping them to ~100 ppt while you guys snagged camps and towers behind us. Rolling into prime time, here’s your chance – its all paper everywhere right now.

It was a fun day for Henge. We knew our night crew (or gaping lack thereof) would not be able to hold off the retaliation, but after our successful GT ninja of NSP garrison earlier in the day with ~10 people, it was a totally different experience steamrolling into GoM garrison with something like 100 people. Still, we had all 3 garrisons within the day which is something we don’t often achieve.

Props to the leaders of our big guilds for getting their guilds to haul some kitten tonight and make a point – albeit a short lived one. And props to our buddies over at GoM for letting us know they’ve been cutting us some slack this week.

The nightmare runes seems likely, not uncommon for confusion mesmers to use TA gear. I hadn’t personally done the research, but for him to get hit by it that often it means that clones have independent cooldowns on it? That may need looking into.

I have a couple dedicated WvW chars (as in, never use in PvE). They sit on the cliff above the southsun node, mine it before you enter WvW, guest to a couple other servers to mine it a couple more times when you feel like it. It adds up pretty quick and will cover most usage.

You can create at the highest level of your party. You don’t need to be there, just anyone in your party needs to, so its not an obstacle to play at the level of others as needed. So if you have a guide or someone else who has done it before, it won’t come up at all.

The barriers are simply whether or not you have AR. Its not really necessary through level 20, though the first 5 helps a lot in 10-19. Given you have a choice for getting AR (sort of) outside of fractals, it makes it even easier to jump into the 10 daily runs. Completing any level above yours will grant you a level on your fractal progression, so you don’t need to be that selective on what level you run, as long as you have the AR/experience to handle it.

As someone who has been on HoD from the start – we’ve had plenty of weeks like that in our decline, and during the rise of Kaineng and such, so its happened a few times. However, I think the main difference is you know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

The tier sticking in T8 doesn’t so much have that.

Especially for a small guild, getting all the buffs up takes a long time. I’d personally recommend focusing on the supply buff – its the strongest one in most situations, and coordinate with your server to use it on a location before a siege so that your team has significantly more supply to work with.
