Claw Island is easy on all classes, no idea why anyone would bring that up as a mark of respect.
It’s a great example actually. Of problems of Mesmer in PvE, and of bad and illogical story.
On Claw Island, enemies spawn out of thin air. You’re in a fort with a line of cannons but.. it’s all useless. Enemies spawn right behind you, on top of you, no matter where you are. Why don’t they just spawn behind the Queen and end the war?
With Mesmer, this is even worse because on Claw Island enemies completely ignore your illusions. Every time they go after you and you alone.
Oh man, you totally missed the point >.< GG >.< Point is any class can do Claw Island, that’s so not the worst story quest in the line, that one is the least of any of our problems with this game (and if we’re going to talk mark of respect for surviving a story quest, it’s the many, many bugged super spawn AI story quests that are the worst).
Claw Island is easy on all classes, no idea why anyone would bring that up as a mark of respect.
GS should be single target but with line/cone effect. The aoe weap should be the staff (makes more sense visually, pounding the staff into the ground to cause aoe tremors, while greatsword affects things in a line from it).
Who said anything about loot stealing? I’m talking about mesmers providing no competition for doing the most aoe damage, amounting to more chance for me to get more loot.
If you don’t understand this, then you don’t understand anything about doing DEs.
Let’s put it like this: when I play my other classes in DEs I’m very pleased to see mesmers – they give me buffs and don’t take away from my chance to gain lots of loot.
Not that you can kill-/lootsteal in GW2. :P
If I had to explain it to anyone it would have to be you.
It means zzzz that if a group has a mesmer in it, my chances for getting loot aren’t diminished – other classes take away from your chance to gain loot by doing decent aoe damage.
Mesmers are very unthreatening like this, and happily just buff me.
Let’s put it like this: when I play my other classes in DEs I’m very pleased to see mesmers – they give me buffs and don’t take away from my chance to gain lots of loot.
Funny story. I dodge rolled out of the time warp field. They followed. End of attackspeed buff.
It’s just a jump to the left and then a step to the right…
^I think in the above post it’s important to note that the mobs “die so fast” not due to mesmer damage, but due to the damage of other players. Just to be clear seeing as the devs totally seem to not understand what the mesmer actually is going through here.
Assuming you didn’t purchase powerleveling, or purchase craft-leveling of the toon, I would imagine that you have a pretty good understanding of whether you like the profession or not…
Not necessarily – not everyone does dungeons or pvp/WvW as they level, some people leave that till they hit max. Maybe OP wants the opinions of people who have already done these things post-L80.

2. Other classes are in the same boat as the Mesmer of being outclassed at Orr DE.
No, they’re not.
What they wanted was to give mesmers the options to use other skills except for just getting 3 phants out.
With 3 phants out you try to avoid your clone creation skills because they eat a phantasm.
This is just lol.
Phantasms only take one or two hits to kill….we already were breaking out our clones and any skill off cooldown, because the stupid phantasms die so easily. All this nerf has done is make it so the cooldowns are even longer…like they weren’t long enough already.
1 – Both the duelist and swordsman are used in PvP..
Oh no, apparently they’re not. It has been stated by the game pros that live in this forum that they’re hardly used in pvp, therefore we shouldn’t cry about this nerf. Can’t have it both ways you know.
i mean if a change to the cooldown of the two least used illusions in pvp
Mesmers did actually require some nerfage on their more spammable Phantasms.
Why can’t we kill other the weapons of other classes then? Also, I wouldn’t call phantasms spammable…they take far too long before they can be respawned and can be killed far too easily (down in one or two hits – lucky if they get one of their skills off before they die) – now it’s even longer before they can be respawned, and this class gets nerfs, yet the traits are still bugged on them.
overall balance…As for the e-sport thing, most of the best players want balance…
Would you mind explaining how nerfing two pve phantasms (hardly used in pvp) helps with overall esport balance?
I find other classes far more user-friendly to play, in pve. I’m running all 8 classes (though haven’t got them all to 80 yet, just a few are 80 atm, and the rest are currently at 20s/30s/40s) Playing all possible classes is something I do in every game just to “beat” the game in different ways, so I have a decent amount of experience with game balance vs different classes…and have to say the mesmer in GW2 requires a lot more effort to level than do the other classes of this game.
Major problem with one of the best ways to gain loot (DEs) is the lack of decent aoe, despite what some here insist on telling you. A mesmer in pve has trouble tagging enough mobs with sufficient damage in the DEs later on, as other classes wipe the mobs out with their good aoes much quicker than a mesmer can tag let alone do enough damage (DEs in Orr specifically, others aren’t as farmed, in Orr DE spawns go down in a matter of seconds), so best to raise alts to farm loot – don’t try on your mesmer.

i mean if a change to the cooldown of the two least used illusions in pvp
Yeah, sooo…pve.
They borked pve abilities to make zero change to the pvp aspects of this class? This looks like an epic fail to me.
i dont think its weird but more like the thief in a sense idk how everyone is playing theirs but mine i chaos storm switch to duel blades illusionary leap switch with clone sword skill number 2 for invulnerability and dodge around the enemies in circles every dodge leaves a clone and by the time im done smash the clones to finish them off
There isn’t enough time for people to do that on some servers. When I play, if you can’t do a significant amount of damage in 2 or 3 seconds, the mobs are dead and you won’t get credit. Often I would try dropping a Chaos Storm as the mobs were spawning, get out a Clone, then start mashing Shatter and the mobs would be dead before the Clone walked a few feet to Shatter. Then I end up with no loot and move onto the next spawn point to try again…
im not saying you have to lay down the chaos storm the mesmer is all about thinking ahead of your enemy rather then just straight attacking so strategy is required here
oh and while im at it thats all i tend to do is help others with events i butt into other events all the time often walk away with a gold metal
Err, don’t think you “absorbed” what the person you quoted was saying.
There is not enough time to get our attacks off: the long cooldown aoe isn’t helpful, and shattering illusions can’t be done before the mobs are already dead to the hands of the multiple other players who actually have decent aoe skills.
Mesmer portal is currently allowing an unlimited number of players to use it, this must be a bug as every other skill in this game maxes out at 5.
It’s not limited by aoe, it’s limited by time.

As for running my squishy kitten into groups of mobs, it’s the same thing as sending in an illusion – DE mobs are DEAD before we can get there. Guessing you play on Devona’s Rest with the other 3 people doing DEs?

Put 30 points into Illusions, get Illusionary Persona), run into groups of mobs and Shatter yourself with F1 and F2.
You kidding? The DE mobs are dead before you can get one of your shatters to run all the way into a group of mobs and explode.
Clearly the guy above has not played a mesmer, or maybe played it to level 15.
Can’t do this damage now anyway – they fixed divinity runes so the bugged crit damage is now back to what it should be.

Blah blah blah missing the point and pretending it isn’t an issue doesn’t make it not an issue Cari baby.
…This has allowed me to pretty much keep up a Phantom army most of the time…
Given this, I don’t understand the nearly across-the-board change to the Phantasm recharge times, and I’m hoping for a little insight.
I think you just answered your own question.
I don’t think he did answer his own question. He next went on to say “the damage was good but not amazing”: given some other classes have amazing damage by comparison, why shouldn’t a mesmer (who has phantasms as a distinguishing feature of the class) be able to keep said phantasms running – yet if they do it’s considered some sort of an exploit by people like you?

Yes, not all classes are exactly equal in all areas of the game. If this is a surprise, welcome to your first MMO, happy to have you on board.
(Sorry, but this starts to tick me off, people complain about it like this is anything but a fundamental truth of class-based game design.)
I play all 8 classes. The differences are a bit extreme for mesmer money generation vs other classes. In other games (and I’ve played many, most likely far more than you Carighan if you want to play I’ve been everywhere wise man in this thread) I haven’t experienced such disparity (DEs simply require aoe skills – mesmers really don’t have these and often don’t get any loot because of this).
To play this game, you have to play more than just the mesmer class if you want to generate money. That I have to say is really bad class design.

Me as a Mesmer need about 10s to kill a mob, I also can kill a 3-4 mobs in about 30s. Orr is supposed to be high level area that is dangerous and evil. I admit, that this gets frustrating and annyoing from time to time (especially Malchor’s Leap). But stick to it, this is no casual Angry Bird game.
Well the OP’s point is that some classes kill a lot easier and make more money than other classes, specifically the mesmer. Your response is glib and vacuous for missing all of this.
Don’t choose your class for power
I don’t think anyone here worried about mesmer in pve post this nerf chose this class for its power =)
I’m not a guy (lollie would be a guy’s name in what universe?), and shatter isn’t direct damage, and your vids show pvp, we’re talking pve in this forum. Shatter in pvp you’re making their damage hit them, so that isn’t mesmer damage. It’s only hitting that high because it’s their damage :P
(edited by lollie.5816)
Stop clinging to them as pets, realize that these are damage abilities that get the added bonus of racking up more free damage as time passes.
“free damage”…lol.
^guy above doesn’t realise mesmer direct damage is incredibly low.
Okay then Anet, give mesmers direct damage – I’d be happy to never use phantasms again (hate them anyway).
All I can say is thank kitten I already leveled my mesmer to 80, just leaving it parked on farm mode now. Cheers >.<
The thing that irks me the most is we have a laundry list of bugged traits/tool tips. I can’t even make an informed decision on what i should change my build to if a lot of my traits don’t overlap or do what the tooltip says.
I need to check the wiki, then reference the stickied thread here (which is a joke imo) and hope i land with a build that can get me through pve.
Then i go duo with my thief friend who kills things before my now 20 second CD phantasm attacks twice.
The 20 second cooldown phantasm that dies after two hits…90% of the time lucky if it lives long enough to attack once.
People keep saying a 4-6 second increase in cooldown isnt much. But your wrong.
As a warrior, if your main ability gets nerfed 4-6 seconds. Ok no problem.
As a mesmer, if your main ability gets nerfed 4-6 seconds, AND can die before it even does its damage / effect. Thats a problem. if every 16-20 seconds my main ability can be shutdown by massive boss AOE and other abilities, before it can even do its damage. Thats where it becomes unfair. A warriors only potential problem is him missing. Though assuming he knows what hes doing. I doubt he will miss.
Exactly this^
The issue with increased cooldowns is the phantasms can easily never get to do anything at all, because they get insta killed.
This nerf is not a properly-considered adjustment. The phantasms are already full of potential fail each time we spawn the stupid things.
They need to take away the hp bar from phantasms and make them like guardian spirit weapons (spawned, have no hp so aren’t killable, last as long as the tooltip says).

Do we get free retrait?
If ArenaNet wanted to run its WvW population in a socialistic fashion (like it does its economy) it could forcibly redistribute these Oceanic players so every server gets an equal amount.
Err…you realise we’re actual real live people and not siege weaponry or anything, right?
4 teams will fix it.
Perhaps but with 5 people definitely won’t quit when behind.
Yeah but six would make it twice as good.
Mine looks like that now, and before when it did have the words “survivor xp” or w/e it said, never went up, at all. So for me this has always been bugged.
I’m getting this too. Had to restart twice. I have sounds ingame set to Highest Quality which is causing no issues anywhere else, except for this Claw of Jormag event, going by other posts in this thread.
Realtek sound drivers. Windows 7 Ultimate. i7 2600K. 8 gigs 1600 RAM.
The sound issue when it occurs is only ingame – can play music simultaneously on desktop over the top of this horrible GW2 sound bug.

This is going to be controversial, but I think repair costs should be removed from WvW, just to encourage the smaller servers to get out there on the field without feeling all they’re in for is a massive repair bill from repeat dying (which is inevitable). Attempts to regain ground despite overwhelming odds should not be punished by repair costs (Anet if you’re wanting to make it more fun and rewarding for players to at least try – remove repair costs from WvW).
To that end, is it really sustainable fun to be participating in 100v20v20 fights anyhow? Are you going to log in week after week if one side’s just going to steamroll the other side in off peak hours?
We all want to face decent opposition when we play, so I think we’ll be seeing servers rise that have 24/7 populations – there are a few trying this already. It’s just a matter of waiting for the guilds to come together and organise. People won’t all just sit on the one server in a system like this – they’ll spread out to several just to be able to actually pvp each other. Just wait a bit.
(edited by lollie.5816)
I propose a system where you gain points every 10 minutes by the number of perfectly innocent non-swearword combinations being turned into the word “kitten” people can yell out during their playtime.
and I basikittenhink the reset/ new server matchup was
Seriously the moderation is really strange we the FR let us can make offend with no problem at all, but as soon as we dare to say that your expensive youngs rosebiff have no level what is the truth the message is directly erased
pathetic…
Hehe…and this is why the servers were divided into two groups, Euro and NA (language barrier).
Can’t quote (button broken again) but I think the pro-NA hours only people must be crazy (well more likely just blinkered and can’t see other people’s point of view)…why would people transfer (guest) every friggin day when the server we’re already on is working efficiently?
Incidentally doing events/etc on your server gives your guild influence, so switching servers in and out isn’t going to happen, if for that reason alone (and it isn’t just for that reason alone).
Some servers are going to be busier than others – it has happened in every single MMORPG ever released, this is just how things go. Work out which server you want to be on and go from there.
There will always be a population issue for the smaller servers in WvW and DEs and all the rest. This population issue is the heart of this complaint.
(edited by lollie.5816)
Can you not guest on any other server for DEs, dungeons and what not to play with your friends?
Just move to a 24/7 server or stay in non-24/7 servers and wait for the matchups to reflect your lack of 24/7 population.
DEs happen on every server, but you need the population at these hours to support them.
And if they don’t like the queue, they have the exact same option available to the prime time players to fix it: switch servers. Hopefully they’ll take that opportunity to further spread out the off peak server populations which means everybody gets to play more often, just like prime time.
I don’t see the problem
Uhh no, people group in clumps at other timezones because there are fewer of us – we cluster so we can also do cooperative things like DEs and dungeons and whatnot. You can’t ask us to evenly spread out because we’d be isolated and unable to find groups at our hours.
What we need to aim for are servers with 24/7 populations who play against each other, and a bunch of non-24/7 servers, who play against each other.
200 players per side should be more meaningful than 20 per side.
A zerg is far less skillful than a small tactical team.
Don’t need to add more, same as above – they should be directing their efforts better, and that’s what WvW is supposed to be about .
Any pvp design pinning its hope of balance on player behavior is doomed to an utter, miserable failure.
This is not any news; any game designer worth of the title knows this and has known this for at least the last 15 years. There is really no excuse anymore.
Three group pvp is supposed to produce cooperation. If that fails then nothing will work.
snip
In your example, the next day server A and server B should be ignoring each other and picking on server C to regain lost ground…so the solution is in their own hands. This is just an example of poor tactics, and misdirected opportunism (lack of ambition) to only reach #2 position on 3 server fight. Put simply, they give up and scramble for #2 position and fight each other for that place.
Yes, people are giving up…is it really what WvWvW was supposed to be?
Don’t need to add more, same as above – they should be directing their efforts better, and that’s what WvW is supposed to be about .
snip.
The point is – it’s lack of ambition and lack of direction that’s the issue here.

Using terms like “night capping” further trivialises and demeans the efforts of the people playing during these hours, while making the NA people feel further justified with their feelings of outrage.
